the PTA um they sent out an email with basically a summary of how they raise money and then how they use it to support our community and that pictographic was fantastically helpful to me to visualize it and it it just makes me even more aware of all that you do and so much gratitude the retiree event that just we were just able to participated in was a beautiful example of so many of the things that you do to call out these people who are part of our community and I thank you Jen and I thank the PTA so much encourage everyone to participate thank you that's sorry that was my does anyone else the retire 10 yes the 10 year recipient sorry it retire and 10e recipients my apologies congratulations to the 10 recipients and
to the retirees for this fantastic Milestone um Barbara is not here but we should acknowledge the fact that the girls lacrosse team in three years went to the sectional finals and that's phenomenal and so I just want to say that she would be saying that I think if she were here congratulations to the girls across team and the what the cross team yeah so something I'm pretending is there anything else board uh this moves us to 2.1 is the opportunity for the public to be heard there's a Podium there and an opportunity for members of the public if they'd like to come forward to uh share something with us with that we move to item 3.1 of P final stent board member report we welcome her to come back again my last one um first
I'll reiterate both the track team and the lacrosse team have had amazing seasons and we're sending two people from track to Nationals also we held also we held the First Community fair in the gym it was pretty awesome there were people from all over the place here and different clubs and organizations all had the opportunity to like show off what they've been doing so I hope we continue that also we had a mini petting zoo here one day like right out there nobody knew it was coming it was a pleasant surprise but people from Cornell came and they had like goats and chickens and it was just awesome I think it was a it was a beautiful day out and it was a nice way to get out of the classroom and outside and then
also we had the senior walk through so the senior class walked through the high school middle school and element school and I had the opportunity to like reminisce and like the kindergarteners saying like a song to them so that was pretty cool and then lastly I just wanted to thank everybody I've had a great time here the past year it's been an amazing opportunity and I've really learned a lot from it and I also wanted to congratulate Joey and I hope that you enjoy this I did next year Paige thank you you have brought a voice of the students um I said this in writing at one point but I want say you you've brought your own voice and you've brought a lot to this whole experience you're the second person to sit in that
seat and between you and Talia it's just been fantastic and I I've been grateful to have you here so I think loved it thank you guys for welcoming me with um with that we're gonna go to the superintendent report and if you don't applaud it's okay so first off I want to thank Paige for everything she's done because it's been fantastic and if you've gotten to see committee reports or committee events and watch page of committees she really shines there so thank you for giving your voice all that and also Joey Russo is here tonight Joey has been picked and will be on the uh July agenda as our next student board up so thank you Joey and you have paed and I'll Mentor you for the next few days to be able help guide
you through it all um I do want to state that Shayla Heyman also is going to States as well as New Balance Nationals so she is one of our students so she'll be um representing us as a middle school student at state competition seventh grader seventh grader so that's huge so I do want to carry that over also our trap team as you know we partner with the gun club for SK shooting it's called trap now everybody understands that they um are actually sending seven students of their team to Cicero for the state competitions so that's that's pretty huge huge wow so we have seven students competing in the state trap competition so skate shootting so thought that was interesting I want to share that Straight Shooters Straight Shooters I love that that is true
so um now I'd like to introduce Brianna Brianna is on the agenda tonight as the Middle School principal so we did it last month with the high school principal yes hello um so most of you do know me but if you don't my name is Brian Olsen and I'm honored to be the selected candidate for the Middle School position position one of the most common questions that people ask in an interview process is why do you want to work here why do you want this job I've reflected on that as a graduate of PR Central High School in Upstate New York some of you may know it's way up there um my Fondest Memories of my K12 experience were based around community and based around my school district BR Central School District is just like
L larger than boresville the vast majority of the students that I entered kindergarten with I graduated with very similar to what our students experience here I remember the Traditions whether it be the field days the spirit days the Apple Festival the homecoming events or School play very similar to bville that feeling of belonging that sense of a close-nit community those are the things that I remember I also remember the dedication of my teachers specifically Mr bores we still exchange Christmas cards and holiday cards with who now I know gave up his lunch to teach a few of us students AP Government because it just didn't fit in the schedule and we just didn't have a lot of AP classes offered the feeling that I get when I reminisce about my K12 experience my academic career
is how I hope you all feel about the boresville community because I know I feel it not only does this community stand up and cheer and celebration of accomplishments but they also come together during the hard times as well this goes beyond the walls of our schools and I truly believe that this is what makes our school district so amazing for those of you who don't know my background I'll share a condensed version I began my career as a nationally certified school psychologist and furthered my education to obtain an additional master's degree in applied Behavior Analysis and autism I've worked with Children of all ages and after working in a school district as a a district Behavior specialist in the city school district of Albany I accepted a position as a middle school assistant principal
in the same district I didn't really know what I was getting myself into however I discovered that I truly enjoyed working with middle school students families and staff the middle school years can be tough for children and also for their families it is a time when children get a taste of autonomy and really start to think about who they are and who they want to become it's a bit of an awkward time for students figuring out how to develop friendships and friendships and everything in between dare I say it's a time when the teachers and staff around the students matter most and I've witnessed firsthand the quality of the staff we have within the boresville middle school and I'm proud to be a part of their team already while I've already begun the process of
establishing connections with students families and staff I'll continue to stren strengthen collaborative relationships with stakeholders Beyond any scheduled meet the staff type of events I want the community to know that I'm always interested in your input this applies to student staff families and community members call me email me talk to me at a sporting event I firmly believe in the importance of a shared decision-making model and plan to embed this framework and planning committees moving forward in addition to building relationships strengthening the communication methods and prac practices we use for students families and staff is critical understanding that middle school students don't always relate accurate or any information home is not a secret however finding streamlined procedures to communicate important information in a way that promotes responsibility is the goal to begin this process I
will begin collaborating collaborating with our new high school principal to develop student and parent handbooks with valuable input from our teachers another area of focus is reviewing district and Building Systems and procedures and with stakeholder input developing standard operating procedures this Focus area goes hand inand with communication it's important that all stakeholders are aware of the clear academic and behavioral expectations that we have for our students as well as the support that we put in place to help our students reach those expectations I'm looking forward to working alongside Administration and teacher leaders to develop a multi-tiered systems of support that that will ensure all students have the support that they need to to achieve success I thoroughly enjoyed my he here as a secondary assistant principal in diversity equity and inclusion Leon one of my
favorite highlights was our first ever Blackbird Community Fair which Paige just referenced the idea for this event was actually sparked by a comment made by one of our senior students it all started with wouldn't it be cool if students could showcase what makes them different their interests what makes them unique well we ran with it and had over 30 different groups represented to Showcase diversity within our horville community the response from stakeholders was overwhelmingly positive and we already have a save the date out for April 5th of 2025 as I step into the principal role my passion for celebrating diversity and inclusivity is not left behind I recognize the importance of social and emotional learning at all levels but at middle school this work is even more important creating a space where all who enter
our doors feel safe both both physically and emotionally is a top priority in addition to the current social emotional learning program that is already in place I will be working to strengthen our programming and support our Middle School youth we will also be providing parents with support and resources to address some of the more challenging discussions that are so very important to have with trusted adults as I stand here before you I want you to know that I am fully invested in the well-being of Orville Middle School we will continue to excel academically and provide students with the explicit skills and support that they need to grow socially I want to formally thank Miss drout for her dedication to the middle school and I hope you know that I value what you have created here
over the past nine years and I look forward to what I hope will be a long career as the borille Middle School principal thank you anyone have any questions thank you thank you thanks all right so I one I'm I'm GNA bring up but it's not on my list Mr franchini actually set up that patting zoo with Cornell Cooperative Extension and no one knew it was coming except for me and we we set it up a while ago so and I texted all the admin I go oh by the way petting is here and nobody knew what I was talking about so I was really funny pig you weren't the only one but it made for a great day and I think we should do it every year at this point it was a lot
so I'm gonna give a capital project up next so if you look out back and go to cornal Cooperative Extension and actually look into it you will see they have made a ton of progress and this week did not hit anything that they weren't supposed to so that's positive um you know Happ to make light of it a little bit so they are actually now putting in the water um system so for the storm water so you'll see those big giant yellow things that were out there that's actually storm water drainage so it catches it makes an underground Pond and that's part of The Next Step that has to happen so they they dig it all out then they dig down even further put that in and then they have to build it back up
again to be able to make sure that we have a place for the building um really good progress happening still probably not going to be done until next May or June I mean it is it will take about a full year for this work to happen um we did have a tad bit of a setback so we are planning on having the bid out for the Elementary School site work by now um unfortunately we just got that b back from State Ed so we just got the approval back probably two weeks ago that does not give us enough time to go out create the site work and actually get good bids to get work done in July and August um so it's not wise for us as a district to go out really quickly for
a site work bid that probably will get us not what we want or not as money that we needed to be so we are going to push that back that site workor is going to go back to the original scope which was all together um as you know I wanted to split that so we had a little bit more time and a little bit more green space at the elementary school unfortunately we're going to have to go back to the original scope of having the site work and building work done around the same time frame um we just the time frame of the submission we submitted in August we just got it back nine months later that was a little bit further out than we anticipated um out of our control so the site workor
will now happen not this week not this year but next year so next summer next summer yeah so is that at least good news for Kanas it's good news for Kanas which I told them already they are aware there's no sight work happening it's also good news for anybody who's going to do any work at the elementary school such as like the um special ed summer school that's still going to be done at the elementary school we won't have to move it up here um but unfortunately we do have to push that back another six you know 10 months unfortunately that is that is or be regretting the decision that was made try to make the wise so any questions on the capital project all right um so all of these kind of go into
facilities at this point but I want to bring them up and Jim is going to kind of help me with this so electrical charging stations for cars as we've talked about our facilities meeting a while back we talked about going up for Grants um we finally got some movement on that Jim why don't you talk about a little bit so the company that we are working with right now is called Livingston energy and and they have proposed putting four outlets at uh on two charging stations at each campus and essentially the project at this point would be at the far end of the middle school parking lot and essentially at the far end of the parking lot across by Creek from the Elementary School uh they would handle everything the total cost of each installation
is approximately 45,000 but uh significant amount over 26,000 is covered by grants through nerta or National Grid so the district local cost would be less than $20,000 for each installation to have four outlets at each campus we plan to um have codes for employees to use it so that we can actually promote green energy and uh then the public would be able to use them that's why they're being put in such public areas so that people can actually use them if they what they would have to pay for I did ask a question about not having four in each area and it has to deal with the ability of funding so explain it's essentially economies of scale if you're only putting in one uh charging station with two uh Outlets you're still going to have
to do all the digging and wiring it's just so the costs going to be significantly more if we do that we can talk about them more facilities but any questions we have funds within our current capital plans to cover this we yes so that's one that we' talked about I believe it was almost six months ago that we mentioned this that facility so it's taking a little while we be here but possibly by the summer we will have those stations and for our staff to utilize I maybe need to buy an ed car um I know I just got a car that's not uh all right so the next one we've talked about this a lot so there's been tons of conversations around lights and as you know if if the district was going to
look at doing lights it's about $850,000 just for the lighting Stacks itself put into a system into your outside fields and then you'd have to decide which one it goes to and everything else so that is a capital project no matter which way you look at it it's a capital project to be able even have a like discussion the district has been funding and buying renting lights we renting anywhere between $1,500 to $3,000 or even $6,000 depending on the length of the time that you're using these lights um we do have an opportunity and I want to bring it to the board we've been looking at some different lights similar in size 20 feet top width LED um that we can purchase those utilizing funds that we currently have um in then what line is
it Jim it's the repair Reserve not not the repair reserve the repair line that we have for the Deferred maintenance so so we could be looking at we could purchase eight lights that could be utilized for any of the events that we have up until the point that we have a capital project but that that way the district wouldn't be renting them um we just had an issue the other day where the lacrosse te was going on for the boys and they couldn't redo it and they had reschedule it because boys lacrosse if you have a rain delay or anything else you actually have to start from the very beginning again so you you don't actually like girls lacrosse you can actually start back where you were so let's say you're in fourth quarter you
can go back to fourth quarter and play boys if you're in fourth quarter doesn't work that way you have to start all over again so they wanted lights like you can't just rent lights in one day and get lights on the field if you have these lights you can right so it is something you can do as a district I wanted to kind of push it out to the board saying is this something you're interested in Neil has scoped it out they are on state contract we can purchase them I think it's roughly $70,000 little under $70,000 it's through one of the consortia that we with sourcewell totally total are they what is their energy source so each one will have a generator attached to it diesel so they're loud and smell no the the
generators we scoped out are very um low noise they're Honda very relatively small units that would be relatively one unit th000 watts can charge one light if you buy a 2,000 watt unit you can pick back it into the two units itself to the two lights so you could go higher up on the generator then run two lights off of one the lights also allow us to be able to plug into a regular system so we could technically run an extension cord um into those systems or run out power lines eventually if you ever wanted to so that is an option as well are solar lights an option not for that price scale difference yeah what's the price scale you need lots of batteries which are expensive right because you have to have storage on
the actual light itself which would be very so I mean we're talking probably I'm going to guess we haven't looked at it completely but in the three to $4,000 range to have enough storage to have them used for any significant amount of time so be an extra 25,000 for the eight lights approximately 25 to 35 I mean that's the diesel so well right so it's 35 it so if it's 70,000 then it would be 35,000 for the stor have solar panels to and that's what caps out that this caps out where our Max would be our Max would be $100,000 tox so that would be and I understand we could look into that and see if that's an option um but it Mayan not be cost effective in in the ability for what we currently
can do also if you want to go higher than 20 ft it has about another but didn't tell me Seven Grand per the mass and getting it up that yeah the the ones that we rent go how high 20 right yeah I mean it's not they're not ideal I mean there's some visibility issues with the the lights at that height for the players but I think me you know I've been pushing for lights for years so thank you for looking into this um I mean to me the cost seems totally reasonable the are more than what you get in the diesel light and the diesel I mean as far as loud and smelly the diesel lights are loud and smelly for sure what's the lifespan for these we didn't really get into that um as
far as lifespan but it is a unit that's you know commercial unit so it's going to be a significant amount they also said that one full tank of the generator that we look at will get you about 45 hours worth the use out of it so you are looking at it pretty efficient yeah yeah comparison to what we currently rent it's like we're F and they're able to be moved by one person so it's not like where you have to get the truck out and move them it's not just the um number of hours though but over years because we won't use them the way a you know a highway crew uses them like every day so we Parts kind of age out before they wear out it's LED so it should be fairly long
lived generator these are all things that we're going to bring back to facilities and we're going to test Neil with being able to get those answers because he is more than capable than me or J to be able to do that one but yeah he can definitely do that each of the generators is approximately $7 800 so that's not a huge lift to replace I'm G to give you anecdotal that and I apologize I have a hot generator similar to the one that we are doing for camping I've had it now for seven years I leave it outside all the time I do not take proper care of it in the winter um you know I don't like put the the stuff in it that you're supposed to so the gas I do need nothing
and every year it starts up just one and it's seven years now and I don't I use it maybe six times a year if I'm lucky so so just it does work in terms of the cost though currently we're spending what like roughly 10 grand a year yes on lights and we have them for a number of days or maybe weeks and this would give us more opportun give us more opportunity to have more like the community focused events where we've got the girl boys double headers and the events too we have more flexibility what events we want to be able to use them for we Delay school start time and still we could do that just put it out there if you own these do you have a vision of what you would do
besides what you do now no I so there's a lot that I've been thinking about a what are the protocols that we put in place for other people use them right because that's going to be another issue um you know the way I'm looking at is I'm thinking we could do pep rallies I think we could do like you know different events for kids at night like I think there's more there that we're not doing that we could do I don't know the answers I just know like we're very limited on what we do have because we can only do what we're doing from you know 7 o'clock to 7 o'clock and I've seen schools do a lot of really fun things like parades at night and going around the track doing different things so
there's options just don't know what those options are I we have much more talented creative staff than I that would probably think of wonderful things to do with kids um I just know that we're limiting what we can do right now and with these LED lights now I mean LED lights old school lights they go like this and you have nothing you have no control LED lights you have a lot more control of them and ones that you actually put in like the ones that we're putting in over here we can absolutely control the way they go the Shadows that they are and then we can actually lessen or control the amount of Lumin that we give at a certain time so the technology is beyond itself itself yeah I think in the fall too
when it gets dark so early right right could you have kanana schemes instead of having to end at 6:30 right that conversation them start at a normal time so parents don't have to leave work early to get their kids to use rental and that's the other component of you know doing those things putting wear ha on it what are we doing with it a whole bunch comes into it but yeah any event all those things how many kids pay to be at AFS at night so they have lights that's you know like we could do those things here and keep people closer yeah something do we'll bring the facilities in sounds good and that's all we got all right thank you uh no would you like to more to say I I'll introduce Jo Joey
would you stand up everybody this is Joey Russo Joey is our new student board member Jo a junior he'll be a senior next thanks all right with that we'll move to the approval of minut item 4.1 are there any comments or thoughts on this item anyone move it it second second all in favor right thank you Treasures report item 5.1 questions or ideas to discuss second second all okay item 5.2 where we um approve a resignation and oh potentially ab and app point a new Middle School principal Middle School principal um for any questions or thoughts anyone like to move it are are we doing just all of them or just five point all at once all at once all at once all of 5.2 um no questions just a recognition of um Dan C
for 35 years of service I know he's not going quite yet but that's pretty amazing yes um you move uh I about to s yes I will Mo all in favor all all right with that 5.3 the B sublist any thoughts or questions I'll second I would like this time say is anyone who's proposed now they over for 202 yeah um and all in favor it was that uh we move to 5.4 which is the July organizational meeting date um we typically have that at 6:45 preceding the board meeting and are there any questions or thoughts move it anyone I'll move it second second all in favor I 5.5 management confidential salaries questions or thoughts moving it anyone I'll move it second second in favor and a ratification of the vaa contract anything to say
questions move it I'll move it second a second all in favor I I and in a resolution on an employment agreement questions or thoughts moving it I'll move it second second all in favor and 5.8 an employment agreement for the assistant superintendent um any questions moving it I'll moov it second second all in favor um M with the 5.9 questions or thoughts and anyone want to move it I'll move that second I'll second all in favor I and 5.10 questions or thoughts move it second second all in favor I yeah all right rgie if you can think back one hour and three minutes ago could you please um the audit committee sure actually we started a little late so might be an hour so the audit committee did meet earlier um we our regular agenda
of items um plus a continuing discussion on the payment system fees which I think ended with all of us frustrated and hoping a coalition forms to go after the payment vendors but we don't have any great Solutions um I'll Circle back to that um so we reviewed our minutes we went over the claims auditor reports there were um four exceptions identified all Athletics related um or four three exceptions and one other issue I think two and two two and two sorry two and two um total value was less than $3,000 um we reviewed our function level um status for the general fund in terms of what we've expensed and encumbered um and actually spent and we're in great shape there as we head towards the end of the fiscal year uh we talked about our
school launch profit and loss and shockingly um at this point or I'll say as of April end of April we are in the black um at to the tune of $6,700 which is pretty amazing usually it doesn't happen this way it hasn't I don't think in my time on the board up until now um so kudos to all of our um cafeteria staff and everyone who makes that happened um on the payment system fees uh we agreed that for next year we are going to try and um promote to parents the fact that they can send in cash or a check to have um funds added to their students mail accounts at no charge whatsoever and secondly will promote the um what is it called the annual fee annual option for E Che payments which
I can't remember the amounts 13.95 13.95 and for one student or 2795 for the entire panel right so that's another option if you're paying by E check it's a onetime fee and it'll save you being charge individual fees throughout the year so if you if you use my school bucks a lot that might be a good option um and borrowing that there are the credit card fees which we all or at least I think are outrageous so please use the other options to avoid those fees um and then we reviewed the um fund balances and the reserves for this next FIS fiscal year um and that's on the agenda for the board to vote on later that's it all right uh PR committee uh yes we last met um just a couple weeks ago on
May 21st um first thing we went over was digital literacy standards um like any other content it's going to have its own standards now that students are spending more and more time doing things digitally um certainly those are standards that they are looking at they're divided by uh kindergarten first grade second third then fourth through sixth seventh and eth and then 9th through 12th um and like most other standards many of that much of it is already being done by um like miss wordley and miss P have been working on that with students so that's nothing particularly new um more standards that are rolling out and changing are the science standards which is another one we talked about um and Frank I believe is that for the earth science which will become earth science in
space and living environment which will become biology yeah okay back to biology is it the 26 27 school year that those exams will be the first 25 26 for earth science don't quote me on it though okay that's and then 26 27 but I think we're off a year yeah okay okay that's right yes so um we we discussed those um the other thing that we talked about was the um the fifth grade science test science test um I Heard sort of across the state not just here but was perhaps not the best test available for students um but quite some time for them so maybe a better version could be worked on in the future again across the state not just here in foro um we looked at uh for the fall for uh
class sizes and how many sections and uh thankfully the incoming sixth grade will be kept at five sections which is nice keeps class sizes small I believe the largest will be like 21 students and the very last thing that we did um a little bit fun um was looked at some of the uh new furniture that could be used by the C of teachers that are going to be looking into and using the U redesigning Learning um and there are four teachers that will be participating this year and if my notes are correct looks like we have an Ela teacher a science teacher and two social studies teachers believe have to check my notes yes right okay well currently three and I'm talking Jim into doing more so Jim says there there are other people
that were there but we want to make sure that yes funing is at three and I think gonna get high yeah um I was wrong on that and I want to apologize the first time that they're gonna be administered is um 25 June okay I was sure and then the conversation was pushing that out to 20 that's okay that's I had the years yes as rushing to roll anything out is idea and that's all I have and that was our last meeting for the year thank you wow thank you committee for your service um with that we move to facilities facilities did not meet all right and to policy uh we actually did not meet either between meetings our last regular board meeting we were originally scheduled to have a meeting on Wednesday but that
will have to be rescheduled page I think I tried to email you okay um so tonight on the agenda we have the second reads that we had last month as first reads so we have policy 1222 relationships with booster clubs 81 21.1 and the related rag which is opioid overdose prevention 6690 which is audit committee and 5550 which is student privacy so those will be all second reads on tonight's agenda if people have any questions um particularly I think the relationships with booster club I can tell that was crafted very carefully for our district and is not easy thing needle to thread right we tried to make it work for all parties involved and uh we have feedback from Joseph yanza and his team to make sure we didn't impact people we didn't intend to
um and we hope to meet sometime in June on that agenda we still have some more student privacy things to talk about 5,500 Student Records 1120 School District records 8630 computer resource and data management so those are kind of all grouped together and 5606 is student voter registration and pre registration and we were still in the middle of working on the naming facilities and student and staff memorials I think there was two other things that we added to the agenda the item AI have from the AI policy workshop on my okay stay tuned everyone meeting date and an agenda but hopefully I'll get one last meeting in before letting someone else take over relinquishing so just just one note on the booster clubs one I think our intent was for it to be broader than
just athletic clubs so um for other you know sort of parent organizations supporting let's say music or other types of Endeavors the policy also would cover those good for thank you is there anything else that I missed um all right with that we'll move to item 7.1 the approval of the resolution regarding the fund balance as was discussed during audit uh any discussion needed or wanted or anyone like to move in move it second second all in favor I Bond resolution on the purchase ofes any discuss anyone want to move that to sign anything after this that I don't think so this is just to get the money to pay for the buses that the voters agreed to cool um I'll that second can't to sign it would you not anyone second and all in
favor I okay all right the last batch of policies from so far and 1. 1222 the booster club for any group supporting any questions or thoughts moving it I'll move it can have it second all in favor I and 8121 and connected um opioid overdose prevention conversation or moving it I'll move it second I'll second all in favor I audit committee policy question or thoughts or move it I can move it second second all in favor I a student privacy this well questions or boss I I don't have questions at boss but just to point out to people if who haven't had a chance to read it it does talk a lot about the surveys that schools utilize and what the rights are of the students and the families and the gardens so people are
interested that's in this policy and it was a required policy yeah and and it wouldn't surprise me if it's back on an agenda again next year I think we all kind of because it's required made sure we had in place to say and what we were comfortable with but it wouldn't surprise me if this goes back for another look next year I agree I think we we wrestle a little bit with who can see what information if a student wants to take it but doesn't want their parent to see it what do that it's kind of a complicated topic we got the requirement done and I guess future boards can take a look well this one with many of them with pretty much all of them thank you guys for tackling this you just um
but anyone like to move it I'll move it second second all in favor thank you and we have a grant being offered for the co Summers Summers Raiders Institute summer summer Raiders Institute any discussion moving it I'll move it second second all in favor thank you grant opportunity and um there are two donations being offered a generous donation from the PTA and the colal council um would anyone want to discuss these or move them second second all in favor and thank you yes our gratitude to PTA andal Council um with that we would like to uh move those monies around to reflect the way they will be used and if there's any conversation to discuss this or would we like to move it I'll move it second second all in favor I all right um
driver's education has been the same price for very very very very long time um I think it was cheaper when I learned to drive but that was even longer ago so I would we have an increase in price that is still much lower than many other places many districts are at 4005 but it was a large increase for our it is it is a significant increase of about 10% but it's still well below other places but if there's a I'm bringing that for piece something that we brought up is there any conversation other than just how good it is to have educated drivers in the anyone like to move it I'll Mo second I second all in favor all right with that we move to other business we opportunity for the public to be heard
item 8.1 this is the second opportunity in the meeting and the podium is available for anyone who'd like to come forward and this is a second opportunity for the board to be heard there's anything would like to mention so Frank you mentioned a couple other things on the policy agenda Ai and I think the second one I raised which had to do with um looking at the the policy that governs use of facilities um there a couple of community members have approached me with questions about how the schedule Works um and I think there's there are some things that we could look at to clarify in that that policy so I think that was the second one she brought it up uh I would hope that the policy committee might at something maybe you're already
looking at this on a different angle uh the usage cell phones by student maybe a pilot maybe there'd be some teachers classrooms who would say I'm willing to support a pilot ban that's the right word uh for a period of time let's see how that works and what impact that has on student interaction and focus and academic progress and things of that nature so I would encourage that be at least an issue that this board take up at some point in time I think it's becoming a problem for some of these kids so on that on that topic I'll say we this briefly came up in one of our meetings and I said that I would be opposed to it and and after much reflection and conversations with my husband about it I I'm fully
willing to admit it was for subish reasons because I'm one of those parents who if I need to text my child during the day about something I do it and that's like I said it's it's selfish and I I do think it's time to take a look at it I just read about a teacher who resigned his position because he couldn't take it anymore because he could not get the attention of his students who obsessed with what's under thought I just want to state that this is something that's been talking about a lot over the past couple months with the district advisory committee uh also building leadership teams so there's recommendations that they have had that will be coming to me in June that we'll go over in the code of conduct uh to be
a to work with the new Administration and also bring to the board when we're talking about it so you know there is already a ban on cellones in certain places but it's the consistently expectation of it and then also what is the expectation that we're going to move forward and what does that look like as we're going so but we really want to have a lot of stakeholder involvement in that so that's why the building leadership is working together to be able to get more input on it and um you know we had a very indepth conversation actually about having cell phone bands like using the lock boxes itself or having policies that kind of guide that and procedures that guide it so there's a lot of work to get done on that so but
it is happening and it is moving forward seems like there's a varing degrees doesn't have to be a locket in a bag like that necessarily but the new trend is is going to and there was a a trend in District administration which is National magazine that just came out is the new trend is lock it away right that's the new new thing in education is at we're going to lock all cell phones and put them away and they've been seeing positive reasons but there's other aspects to that as well what is our current it's a policy that needs a lot of work is it a polic no there's no there's no policy it's a building level procedure there's inconsistencies within that inconsistencies in the building um level in implementation of it from top down across
the board so it's definitely something that needs to be clarified in the student handbooks and procedures and also clarified on grade level and grade six through 12 and actually in the elementary school I heard of a student actually texting a parent in the middle of a an event for like a fourth grader or something I don't want to quote but it's it's even going to the elementary level Now using um watches which blew me away when I heard it but it is true so it's it's it's becoming an issue the bags I can't help but s here's another company that's invest now people I have my own feelings of the bags and that's part of that and I feel like we we're a small school with expectations that I know that we can work with
our communities to be able to better understand it and it also comes down to training our families you know when a child texts you and says come pick me up that doesn't mean that you should come pick them up right like not GNA say that I know that yeah you know well but she said that so not only do we have to figure out what we're doing in our buildings and figure out what we're doing in our grade levels but also we need to train our families a little bit better as well um on how to you know successfully use cell phones with our children so there's a lot of work to be done but I think we're we're taking it thank you Tim one more real quick thing on policy just we haven't figured
