Let me get Moment of silence >> for the father Joseph Hiscocock the father of Tracy Hisco. >> Pledge allegiance >> to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Communications to the board of ed. A communication was received from K. Pellegrino. Now we'll go to Mr. Magnamera for the superintendence report. >> Great. Thank you, Mr. Greco. Good evening everyone and welcome. Thank you for attending tonight. Um I just want to start by uh recognizing our board of education um that it's uh board of education uh recognition week was last week. So I just wanted to take a minute to do that. Um you know, I think people don't realize all the time that these folks
put in. I think they often forget that they're volunteers. uh they volunteer their time uh to serve their community and uh we really have outstanding an outstanding group of dedicated folks uh that are sitting to my left uh that put in a tremendous amount of time uh and all for the right reasons all here to support kids and support uh learning and uh and make Wanau the great community that it is. So, we just wanted to take a moment tonight to recognize them for all their hard work uh all the late night text messages they get from me and uh from community members and um and and for the hard work and dedication they put in uh to support uh to support our our our schools and our community. So, from all of us and
uh from the administration and uh from the community, we just want to thank you for your dedicated service. So, thank you very much. >> Thank you. And just a a small token of appreciation from us from uh to all of you. It is also uh principal uh appreciation month as well. So, we wanted to appreciate our principles. Uh we have five outstanding leaders of of each one of our schools and we just wanted to thank you uh for for all the time you put in uh and and just uh all the efforts you you put in to to make each one of your schools the very uh outstanding place that it is and unique place that it is. uh you know it's it's um uh a tireless job being a principal uh working around the
clock uh you know attending to everybody's needs and uh and we just wanted to take a moment to to thank our principles who many of which are in attendance tonight. So thank you to all of our our principles as well. [applause] Um I'm gonna turn it over to our auditor. Uh we have uh Chris Schneider here from RS Abrams. Uh Chris is a partner at RS Abrams. Uh each year we go through an independent audit process. Uh that typically starts uh at some point in the summer. Uh and they they coordinate with Anthony Sedron and his office uh who is our assistant superintendent for business. Uh they uh do a thorough job in in terms of working uh with uh with Anthony, his team. Uh so we welcome Chris tonight to provide a report to
the board on that audit. >> Great. Thank you very much. So again, my presentation today will be brief. Again, we are the external auditors for the district. We are independent auditors on an annual basis. We produce a series of reports to report on the audit results for the district. Um those will ultimately be on the district's website and ultimately submitted to the state as per state requirements. In terms of the deliberals, we have two that are dictated by auditing standards. We have a financial statement for the district as a whole. We have financial statement for your extra classroom activity funds. The most important thing to report there is that there are unmodified opinions on those deliverables. Meaning that's the clean opinion. That's the highest level of opinion. Um, in terms of some highle things that
we would communicate, again, we communicate what we call a management letter where we summarize recommendations to the district in terms of improvements to internal controls. We did discuss those at length during our meeting, so I won't go through those in detail here, but this the state does require that the district submit a corrective action plan, which the district will be doing shortly if you haven't already. Um beyond that in terms of some highlevel things to note about your financial position again I I constantly mention that with this district but the reserve plan for this district is tremendously transparent and one of the most robust that we've seen amongst the districts. We audit 40 other districts. So I always want to tout you for that. That is a tremendous document that again helps you as taxpayers,
as board members and just as a community be aware of here are the monies that we set aside and this is why. Also of note, and probably the last thing that I'll mention here is that you are at the 4% of unassigned fund balance mark, which is where the state would want you to be. Again, that 4% represents 4% of next year's budget. So again, that 4% is what the states in the state's eyes, they think is the optimal unassigned fund balance. And again, you are complying with that. So with that, I will open it up to any questions. Great. Thank you as always and thank you Anthony and your your business office. Much appreciated. Take care. >> U couple updates for me for the board. Uh one is a security update. Uh we uh
we're working with an outside vendor to do a security audit this year. Uh went really well. I thank all the uh each of the building principles and our director of facilities Rob Leverine for his uh uh you know his work in working with uh with the uh the vendor. Um they're they're providing us with uh robust report of various things that we can improve upon and um things that we can look to work towards as you know future goals as well. Uh, and one of the things that I' that in our conversation with them that I'd also like to recommend to the board to take a closer look at is bring on a a director of safety and security for the district. Uh, right now our director of facilities oversees our security uh and uh
and does a fine job with it. Uh, but I'd really like to have somebody in place that uh that does that full-time for us and and has an eye on that uh each and every day. Uh, and as a you know, just dedicated to that task. Uh so that was something that we've been discussing. Uh but I'd like you know the the board to take a closer look at that in the more immediate future. Um and um you know just a little history there. We used to work with an outside uh vendor to provide security for the district. Uh over the past several years we've changed that. We we've brought on our own security uh personnel. They do an outstanding job. we have all former law enforcement uh and we're at some of our highest
levels uh in district history in terms of security uh to continue to provide uh more and more personnel for that task. So um so now I think it's a kind of natural next step to have a director that oversees that department solely and can have an eye on that uh full-time. So just something that I'd like to bring to the attention of the board as well. Um, capital projects update. Uh, you know, we had a busy summer as, you know, many of you aware that attend these meetings regularly. You know, we've been reporting on a lot of the summer work that's been taking place. Uh, really all went very well. We were working right to the wire to to, you know, at the at the start right to the end of the summer to get
our buildings up and running, but we accomplished a tremendous amount. Uh, I won't highlight all those projects again as we've done in the past couple of meetings. Uh, but we do have some ongoing work. Uh, as many of you remember, we had a a bond that we passed in uh two of the uh three uh portions of that bond passed in in December of 2022. And we've been working through that. Um, one of the the big portions of that uh prop one of that bond was to do uh HVAC work across the district, replacing every unit ventilator in every classroom and replacing windows across the district. um we did a large part of that this summer, but it's just too big of a job to do in um in just in just one summer. So,
we have some ongoing work that we're going to be doing throughout the school year. Uh right now, we're working at Mandandalay and Forest Lake. Uh we'll be doing some additional work at at um at both the high school and middle school uh during the school year. Uh and that's all in process and uh in Mandalay, we've already begun. We're starting Forest Lake now. Uh and we have several classrooms we've identified as swing space in those in those buildings and uh and and we're we're doing that work. Um and it it it's already, you know, the work that they're doing at Mandandalay looks fantastic already. Uh they're really rebuilding the exterior walls to do the new uh new windows. Uh and the new units that they're placing in each one of those classrooms is a heating
and cooling unit. Um so we'll have central air conditioning in in as well as central heat in all of our classrooms. no longer having to rely on window units uh just for a much more consistent temperature in each one of our uh instructional spaces for our students. So, I just wanted to make you aware that work will continue throughout the year. Our goal is to have it wrapped up by the end of next summer for the HVAC work and the the windows. That's certainly our target. Uh we'll we'll do as much as we can during the school year and then the bulk of the the balance of that work over over next summer. And then two projects we're eyeing for uh for next summer as well. Uh, one is the high school library project with
which we're really excited about. Part of Prop three of the bond was to completely renovate our our high school library and rooms 150 152. We're going to actually be connecting those spaces. Uh, and it'll be a student's uh work area as well. Uh, and um and and we're in the, you know, final stages of of of finishing those plans and a plan to send that project out to get some bids on that uh in the beginning of December. uh and look to approve that uh in at the end of January so that we can start to order the materials needed to do summer construction. So, uh that project's underway. And then uh also uh continuing some of the work we're doing. We've been doing uh uh renovating bathrooms as well. Uh we have uh we
did 16 bathrooms at Forest Lake last summer. For example, each classroom we renovated the bathrooms and we want to do a similar type project at at Mandalay for uh for next summer. So, uh, those are a couple of the bigger projects, uh, that are in the queue, uh, for, uh, for the coming months as well. And then just also 1865 Beach Street, the the former, you know, original, uh, schoolhouse here in the Wanto community. Uh, that space has had been leased uh, for 40 years to, uh, to Wii Friends. Uh, that lease expired last year. Uh and um after considering some options, uh district ultimately determined that, you know, probably the best option was to to place that property on the on the market. Uh so uh back in July, it was placed on the
market and we're currently uh considering offers uh to to purchase that uh property. uh and um and then at that point once we get to a point where there's a final deal then uh there would be a public vote that would take place to approve the sale of that property to that particular uh uh purchaser. So, uh that's all still in the works. So, just continue to keep the community informed of that. Uh and then just a big thank you homecoming uh huge success this year. Always such a great community event. you know, we have everybody involved from students from K to 12 to all all sorts of different members of our community. Uh weather was great and I just really wanted to give a special thank you to our booster club uh and our
booster club leadership. They they do a tremendous job with us each and every year. It's a huge undertaking. Uh all of our class adviserss and the floats and and and everybody that that puts in so much time to it. So, uh just thank you for uh really outstanding event. Uh with that, I'll turn it back over to Mr. Greco. >> Thank you, Mr. Mayor. >> Oh, I'm sorry. One more thing. Um I just also wanted to um extend my condolences um to the Anzalone family. Uh Patty Analone, longtime uh contributor to our community um passed away uh uh suddenly after, you know, an illness. Um and I and we just wanted to extend our condolences to her and her family. She was very active in our in our PTAs. Uh you know, longtime member and
and we just uh uh wanted to extend our sympathies to her family. Thank you. Right. Item D, approval of minutes. 020All right. Now, we'll have our reports from Danny and Nina and our student government. Good evening everyone. My name is Danny Donu >> and my name is Nina Meyers. Since our last meeting, we have had many successful events take place such as our annual pep rally. We announced all varsity teams and their captains got a live performance from the dance and cheer team and heard the WA high school band. Additionally, we announced the top three candidates for homecoming king and queen. Following pep rally, we had a very successful homecoming this year. There we announced our float winners with juniors claiming the victory. Like we said in our last meeting, each class earned points based off of their placement in the float competition and these points will go towards our battle of the classes event at
the end of the year. We additionally announced our homecoming queen and king, Lana Lee and Ryan Ryone. So congratulations to both of them and the Warrior football team and ended homecoming with a strong victory. Speaking of sports teams winning, our girls varsity soccer team just had their first playoff game yesterday where they beat Island Trees six to zero. Other teams that have qualified for playoffs so far are girls varsity volleyball, boys varsity volleyball, and varsity football. We can't wait to see the success they have and are wishing them the best of luck. >> For the month of November, student government will be holding its annual Thanksgiving food drive. Each class decorates boxes that are displayed in the front lobby. At the end of the food drive, we count how many donations were made by each
grade, and points are rewarded to each class depending on the amount of donations. These points contribute to the battle of the classes as well. The food collected during the drive is distributed to less fortunate families who might be struggling during the Thanksgiving holiday. Additionally, student government is looking to partner with the Veterans Hospital in Northport this year to send letters of gratitude from the student body to veterans. We held this event last year and got an immense amount of warm thank yous from the hospital. So, we are looking forward to getting started with writing the letters. >> Thank you. And we look forward to speaking about future events at the next board meeting. >> Thank All right. our other organizational groups forest lake. Good evening everybody. Uh so right now we are going to first
discuss the after school program. Uh it's the enrichment program we started this year. Um it's been very successful so far and our second session um is starting soon uh November 25th and we're all looking forward to that. There's going to be some of the fan favorites and some new you know new ideas at that point as well. Um, Saturday, September 20th was the fifth grade car wash. Uh, the weather was very in cooperative. All the kids had a blast and probably got washed more than the cars did. Um, we also had Forester magnets and air fresheners being sold at that event. Um, October 7th was picture day. Went as smoothly as could be. It was another good one. Um, the 9th was our parents night out radio bingo event. Um, from what I heard, it
was a really, really good night and people are already talking about looking forward to, you know, next year's event for that one. Um, our first book fair was on October 16th. Uh, there was a day and night session for that one. Uh, October 18th was our second annual holiday photo fundraiser. Um, we have somebody come in, take pictures. Um, for anybody who's interested, it's a good fundraiser. Uh, you know, if anything last year is an indication, this year's pictures are going to be wonderful. Uh, tomorrow is our Halloween bash, uh, which will be free for students. We will have a DJ, games, crafts, and, uh, food, including the pot food truck. Uh soon we will start collecting uh non-p perishable items for our annual Thanksgiving harvest. Uh those will be distributed to uh before Thanksgiving
to farside families in need. Um and November 7th is the annual islander game night. We will be uh sharing that night with Mandalay who will have a uh joining section to ours. Um we also have some pretty uh exciting u ideas for Veterans Day. I will let my co-president speak on that one. >> Hi everyone, my name is Christine Devito and I'm the co-president. This year, for the first time, Forest Lake is hosting a Veterans Day celebration in which we're inviting the students to bring in their family members that are veterans. They will be joining their students for a bagel breakfast sponsored by the PTA. Then the veterans will um congregate in the lobby and the school is going to parade through the lobby with thank you cards and signs to thank those veterans. And
then the veterans will be split up to um join each one of the classrooms to speak to the children about their experience and which branch of service they served in and just give the students a little taste about what it's been like for them. Um we're also doing a flag sponsorship program where people can purchase a flag and it will be displayed in front of the school and all proceeds from that are going to go to Mission United which is a Long Island um uh charity that supports Long Island veterans. So, we're really excited about that. And our next meeting is on November 13th. And that's all. Thank you. Thank you. >> Mandlay. Okay. Um, Mandalay PTA began the school year with a strong volunteer participation and community support. Um, we've had our back to
school lunchon for teachers. We've, um, had our back to school movie night, which was very successful. Um, children sold t-shirts and concessions. Uh, the fifth graders sold t-shirts and concessions and raised money for their fifth grade year. Um, we had a membership drive, um, encouraging more participation in the PTA. We had our picture day on October 8th, which was a good day, successful. And upcoming tomorrow is our uh fifth grade fall festival fundraiser where there will be trunk or treat and um a magician, games, and pumpkin decorating. Um our membership has reached its highest level within the first two months of the school year in several years, reflecting increased family engagement, which is excellent. Um and then we have a report from our cultural arts. >> So for our unity day, we had a kindness
quest laser school assembly program. The program ran about for about 40 minutes and was presented in two separate sessions, one for grades preK to second grade and the other for grades 3 through 5. The content and messaging were tailored appropriately for each age group, and the students were taken on an interactive laser light adventure featuring music, puzzles, and colorful laser animations. The show focused on key social emotional learning themes such as kindness, empathy, teamwork, social awareness, and compassion. The younger students in grades of the pre-K through 2 grade experienced a simplified storydriven version that emp emphasized helping friends, using kind words, and including others. The older group in grades three through five explored deeper lessons around respect, responsibility, and how individual actions contribute to a positive school community. Throughout both throughout both the sessions, students
learned that kindness counts and the combination of music, humor and laser visuals kept them engaged and there was lots of positive um reports from both the students and the parents. Um, also tomorrow we have our fire safety presentation which is a uh assembly in the morning and then afterwards the third and fourth grade attend the smokehouse which is um, you know, simulating uh, what to do in a fire emergency. Um, we also have the Islanders game coming up with Forest Lake on November 7th and then our next meeting is on November 19th. >> Thank you. Hello. Good evening. Um, my name is Amanda Spelain. Um, just a couple updates. We had our car wash, family bingo, our back to school night. They were huge successes. Our back to school night this year, we did a
little differently. Instead of the movie, we did kind of more of a carnival theme and it was a really, really huge success. So, we're really excited about that. Um, but our newest success, we just did our trunk or treat, a very first one, um, this past Friday, and it was amazing. We had about, I would say, 13 cars. A few couldn't come last minute. So excited to see the growth of that. It was really fun. The kids, adults, everyone had a really good time. So, really excited about that. Um, and then tomorrow also is our Freaky Friday dance. Um, so we have Adam Kadabra coming. He's a magician. Um, we also have Jason Jason Kohl's coming. He's um a hiphop uh DJ and so he's going to come teach thriller, teach the kids thriller for
both sessions. Um some monster mash. So, it's going to be really fun. Really excited to have him part of our our uh our night. Um we have our bake sale coming up November 4th. Um our doctor recess assembly which all the kids and students um and teachers really look forward to. That's on November 5th. Um we have our holiday photos on 11:13. So, we're going to set up a few different backdrops and it's kind of a DYI thing so families can come and take pictures and do it within the school. So, that'll be really nice. And then Turkey Trot is happening on November 15th. So, really excited about that. Um, that's a really big event for our school. So, lots of fun things coming up. Um, a lot of huge successes in the past. So,
just excited for November and can't believe it's already here. So, um, but thank you so much for your time and looking forward to next meeting. Thank you. >> Thank you. Uh, SEPTA. >> Hello. I'm doing triple duty tonight. So, um, okay. So for SEPTA, um we just wanted to thank everyone um our fellow PTAs and schools and all the administration and the buildings for letting us promote our and have our membership tables at curriculum nights and back to school nights. We appreciate it. Um we currently have our Uncle Frank's fundraiser. Next Wednesday is the last night. Um so if you go into Uncle Frank's on Wednesday, um you mentioned SEPTA, we're going to get 10% of the proceeds from the month of October. Um, our November fundraiser is with Shine Your Light Candles. Um, the
candles are made um by individuals with um developmental delays or disabilities. So, we're happy to be pairing with them. It's a kind of a nice uh a nice thing that a nice exchange. That's going to be it's going to be really a nice thing for us. Um, we're also looking forward um to collaborating with W High School 612 and the student clubs and teachers and administration for the spooktacular for this. We have a sensory friendly time from 4:30 to 5 and we will have a lotto basket there this year. So, we're looking forward to the families um for anyone who needs you know less of a crowd or more quiet um to walk through. Um those families, you know, everyone's more than welcome to come. So, we're looking forward to that. Um, we're looking forward
to giving out more teacher grants this year. We've already started, so that's exciting. Um, we gave one to Mrs. Delmonica. She edited some instruments for her intro to piano class and also Mrs. Luke for her Mandandalay technology classes. Um, and we have some more coming down the pike. Um, our first meeting was last night. Thank you to everyone who came. We appreciate everyone who shared. Um, thank you to Mr. Moran and, uh, Dr. a chance for sharing all the updates in the district, what's going on with the support of special education PTAs in all the buildings. And I think that's our next meeting is January 14th. Um and so PTA council or I'll do 612 next 612. Um wanted to say that membership is ongoing. If you haven't joined already, please join. Um they have
a pizza kit fundraiser available for Francescos to support the hugs. um to support hugs which is supports the families in need in um in this in the in the 6th through middle and high school. Um they will also have a raffle table at the spectacular and they're also looking for candy donations still. Um there is links on the socials Amazon there is an Amazon list but if also if you want to just donate you can drop it off at the high school into the to the front or the main office. I'm not really sure. And the last PTA council, um on behalf of Chrissy and Laura and the PTA council, we wanted to echo um you know the condolences for the um Analone family. Um Patty Anzelone was uh served as historian for the um
for the PTA council for the past couple of years. She's also a former Forest Lake president. Um she's also very active with 612. So we want to extend our condolences to her family. She will be greatly missed. Um there's nothing much to report for council yet, but they are excited for the new school year ahead and look forward to working closely with all the PTA units. Our main goal is to be able to provide scholarships to the seniors. Our big event is the volleyball game which is set for February 26th and there's more to come on that uh at the next meeting. And on behalf of all the PTA's PTA council, we wanted to extend our thanks to the board of education for all you do for our students and our school districts. So, thank
you. Good evening. I'm Lette Montag and our treasurer of the booster club. So to date for memberships, we're about 120 memberships which includes the parents, the staff, faculty. So thank you for your support and membership is also ongoing. Uh this year we're using givebacks and already it's provided us with a great return on investment. It's made it a lot easier for the parents to do the memberships to purchase uh want to wear for the faculty as well and and what's coming and of course for me the treasurer for transparency and reporting. It's been a lot a lot smoother. So I'm h we're happy about that and it's really going well. Homecoming. Thank you Mr. McNamera. You know, as you mentioned, the day was truly a success uh for the whole community and with help from
the community. The weather definitely helped. Parade was great. Homecoming court was great. And of course, the Warriors went and um I just want to thank the volunteers who helped us with this big day because there is a lot behind the scenes, but it was all successful and all worth it. Our grand marshall was Mr. Boatz who definitely had a great time. I love the pictures that we were able to capture. He wore his sash the whole time. You know, he just again truly brings such positive spirit to all of our games and um you know, we just really appreciate him. Financially, the booster club is doing well. Our merchandise sales are doing extremely well and it's because we have a lot of great designs. So, go shopping. Um soon we will be putting our merch
online. The online store that we had for the beginning of the year was really successful and we are also going to be doing another one for the holiday season. So stay tuned for that. So future events uh for us on booster is getting ready to support the winter sports uh coaches where we can. And the basketball tournament is probably the first thing that we have officially to be do to do in the beginning of December. So stay tuned for that. And again we just thank everyone here in this room. We thank you board for your continued support and we wish the fall sports the best of luck in their playoffs. Go Warriors. Thanks. >> Good evening. Nicole Felino, co-president of WPABC. Uh we've had a pretty busy beginning of the school year so far. It's
marching band kickline season. Uh at both homecoming and band camp, WPABC served pizza, snacks, water to the marching band and kickline. Uh we also have supplied ice and water to both marching band and kickline for all home football games. On October 17th, uh WPABC recognized our seniors in both marching band and kickline during the last home football game. Each senior was given a bootineer before the game and had their picture taken with family on the field. at the News Day Marching Band Festival this past Tuesday. WPABC supplied water and snack packs for each of the 121 participants. Uh looking ahead, we've got uh fall spiritware. Our sale will go live very soon, hopefully as soon as tomorrow, but don't count me on that. And we'll run through November 7th. Uh be on the lookout for
our flyer. WPABC will have a candy table to support next week's Halloween spooktacular event. will have guessing jars and 50-50 raffles available for purchase. Uh, Wantto Performing Arts, uh, Islander game will be held on November 4th. The band, chorus, and kickline will be performing before the game, and we hope to see everyone there. Our next WPABC meeting will be held on November 5th, both in person and broadcast via Zoom. We hope you can join us. Um, rounding out November, the high school fall show 1660 Vine will be held November 21st to the 23rd. WPABC is still seeking both raffle and concessions donations. We have a wish list and signup genius for donations. Monetary donations are also appreciated and can be made on the WPABC give backs website. And finally, WPABC is still short of our
membership goals. If you have a child in any of the performing arts ensembles grades 6 through 12, please purchase your membership to help further our support of students. And as a reminder for parents of seniors, in order for your child to be eligible for WPABC scholarships, at least one family member must be a paid member. Thank you. >> Does anyone has any questions or concerns? Would like to address the board? Good evening. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Diane Bar. I live here on 12 Tapodil, 1242 Taffadil. And I'm just inquiring again about the lights and has any further conversation taken place or decision been made? Um secondly, great um you know, great season. Everybody's been out there, which is wonderful and we don't mind. Um I'm here to talk about the
level of the music. It has gotten a little out of control. Um I really would like to just play this and this is just from five o'clock today. This is in my house. So, anything that um you can do to um help maybe negate negate some of the noise pollution, just bring it down a level or two or something. We could find a volume that would be acceptable uh for the children using it on the field and us at home. And um congratulations to all the sports teams and their playoffs and I wish them the best. Thank you for your time. No one else. That'll close the meeting. And Diane, no change on the lights. Uh, you know, we're not moving forward with anything there. Uh, and thank you for bringing the noise to our
attention. We'll we'll address that. Yeah. I'm not available >> because I am.
