Second by Elaine. All in favor? I. >> Any opposed? Can I get a motion to resume public session? >> Motion by Derek. A second. >> Second by Rebecca. All in favor? I. >> I. We'll move on to the report of the student representative Bella. Sorry. Today was the last day of school for students in grades 7 through 12. Now class prom was a great time for juniors and seniors. We had a full house with 104 students attending prom. After prom was a welcome as well. We had the leader tag in the gym, basketball in the cafeteria, and the 400 p.m. area in the hallway. Thank you to the PTO and booster club for sponsoring breakfast in the morning. We would also like to thank the transportation department for providing safe ride for students to Liberty
Bridge. Last Wednesday was the high school academic awards. These awards were held to honor the hard work and dedication of many students. High school students received scholarships, department awards, and attendance awards. The art department also hosted arts alive to recognize the hard work and dedication of our students. Students showed off their artwork and the art teachers held the art honor society induction ceremony. With all this hard work behind them, students are excited for summer to start and are looking forward to the future. Thank you. >> Thank you. Enjoy your summer great and thank you for your service. >> We will move forward to minutes. We have minutes from the April 21st regular meeting, May 20th regular meeting, the special meeting held on May 26th, and the round table held on May 2nd or June, sorry.
Um any did anyone like any of those polls? Okay, so we will pull the minutes held on May 20th. Okay. So, can I get a motion for A, C, and D? >> Motion by Derek. A second. >> A second by Rebecca. Penny, how do you vote? >> Yes. >> Elaine, yes. Kim, >> yes. >> Frank, >> yes. >> Rebecca, >> yes. >> Derek, >> yes. And I'm guessing I don't have any questions. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Can I get a motion for B, the regular board of board of education on May 20th? >> A motion by Kim. A second. Second by I'll give it to Derek since this is >> okay. >> Frank, >> yes. >> Rebecca, >> Derek, >> yes. >> And yes. >> Okay, we'll move to consent agenda. Public comment. Anyone sign
up? >> No. >> Any uh public comment on the consent agenda items? Okay, we'll move on to um consent agenda items. We have A through X with Y being approval of the consent agenda items. Are there any items to be pulled? No. Wow. Can I get a motion for Y? Approval of all consent agenda items. >> Motion by Derek. A second. Second by Rebecca. Penny, how do you vote? Yes. Elaine, yes. Kim, >> Frank, >> yes. >> Rebecca, yes. Derek, >> yes. >> And yes. At this time, we'll move on to the president's report. I do not have a formal report other than that the school year is winding down. I would like to congratulate all of the um class of 2026 on their commencement and wish them the best of luck in their future
endeavors. Remember, once you're a mountaineer, you're always a mountaineer. We'll move it on to the superintendent. >> Right. Good evening everyone. Um, welcome. And for this report, I have a couple thank yous to go out. First off, I want to thank a couple people in district office. One in front of me is Darcy Mcu who's running our live stream today. Um, thank you for Darcy for coming out and supporting that. Uh, and to Jeff as well. And that's because Rachel is helping us to uh run the budget revo and Don as well. So just a big shout out to the team right now. I mean, Don, Rachel, and Darcy to make it all happen, having multiple things happen at the same time. Um it's not not always as easy as they make it seem. So
very fortunate to have all three of them serving the district. Uh I want to remind everyone while there's still an hour left that our our budget revote for 26 million 26.3 million budget is uh voting is still open till 9:00. If you're on the live stream seeing this, you have time to stop down Mils High School, please do come out and vote um on the budget until 9:00 p.m. this evening. Um I want to congratulate uh the prom committee and Mr. Burnsley and Miss Reynolds, everyone else involved in this year's prom organization. Had an opportunity to stop out for a little while to see the prom at Liby Ridge. It was a wonderful evening. Beautiful weather. Um kids playing cornhole outside. There was goats walking around. It was really a beautiful venue. It was a
lot of fun. The kids seem to really enjoy themselves and relax. Regretfully, I couldn't stay the whole time that evening, but it was really just a nice nice event. What I saw a lot of shop runs out as well to support that. I'm looking at manage in front of me. I know Ariel, there's so many people that were there. I was just they kept funneling in. I was really truly impressed with how many staff members showed up as well to be part of that too. So, just great job. Kudos to everyone everyone involved in that. I want to thank u Scott Vendett uh who has supported our school district. Scott uh graciously uh reached out two weeks ago and had extended $20,000 a district. He understands um struggle for rural schools. uh although he does
not live in our community, he lives nearby in every nearby community. He understands the importance of education in rural schools and our budget situation here. So, I'm very thankful to Scott um for extending that offer and sending the district uh $20,000 in targeted aid which we're going to receive officially in December of next year. I want to thank a couple of the all three of our bargaining units. You may have seen the consent agenda. We have new contracts, MOAS, new contracts in place. One is the BTA a very collaborative process which began back in December. I want to thank Sam and Sandy who are the co-presidents of of that unit for the collaboration in a very smooth process. Um I also want to thank David Burnsley and the BAA as well for doing that contract
across the finish line in a much shorter timeline. I also want to thank the CSEA as well who is not due for a new contract but was going to come to the table and um sign an MOA to add what's called Prudent RX uh to their um contract. And because all three units agreed to Prudent RX, I'm very pleased to say that we are going to likely look at a savings in health insurance um $40,000 for the next year, potentially more. Depends on some factors in terms of who takes what for insurance. But current RX is a high cost prescription drug carell and we were the only district in question three didn't have that you have to have all three bargain units in order to maximize the savings and we now will have that in
place before June 30th. So I'm very pleased to announce that. That's another way we're trying to reduce costs, find efficiencies, and working with Colleen. We continue to do so, will continue to do so. Stay committed to that commission, provide the best education possible, and just just giving us the time to be able to continue to look at these opportunities where we can save money for for our students and put them back in classrooms. Um lastly, I want to congratulate Ariel Gilbert who is um tonight being recognized and recommended a board as our new director of instructional innovation and technology. She essentially is taking over for Tammy women Tammy Dunlop. I apologize she's retiring technology role. She's also continuing in her role as an instructional coach leader in the district which she's been doing as this
this year and done a tremendous job. So, next year we're looking forward to her stepping officially into an administrative role, taking on that technology piece, working with Derek, and continuing the great work that she's been doing supporting our principles and district initiatives as a group leader as well. So, congratulations and welcome Ariel. >> Thank you. >> Okay, we'll move on to administrative snapshots. the business office year down in the business myself because we have an audit going on. We'll be closing books. We'll be opening books. We'll be putting in all the orders and there's a ton of reporting that has happened this time period. So, my office will be very busy for all of the summer. PPS and MTSS. >> So, in my last board update, I shared that we were continuing to work on
our partnership with Brunswick for the extended school year program. Happy to say that we are nearly finalized with that process at this point. to have a meeting with their director tomorrow to hopefully nail down the last few and details and uh we are waiting on our attorney to provide the contract for that as well. So as soon as we have that we'll go to the board for their approval. Um that's kind of where we're at with BSY. I'm still exploring different partnership opportunities to fulfill the additional position we had added over the course of this year. um we do have a candidate who's very interested who we'd love to have but needs a full-time position and they're the only candidate that there is for speech. Uh so I have reached out to all the districts
in the region and now I'm currently in talks with St. An's about the possibility of sharing a speech language pathologist with them. So hopefully that one pans out at this point and certainly if we are able then that agreement would also go to the board as well once that's established and written. Uh this time of year we are eagerly awaiting our grant allocations for our special education idea grants the 611 and 619 and as soon as that information comes out we have a very short turnaround time to get all of that information to the state for their approval about three weeks they get it out now which they have not yet done uh as well as looking at a lot of our end of year reporting which mentioned we have the same to do in
special ed as well. So, working on all those pieces at the moment. >> Hi. So, um, right now we're just wrapping up our year with all the end of the year assessments. We're just about done with them. Um, and making sure everything's on the data sheet to start kind of looking at it for next school year. Um, it has been a wonderful year and the students have made great progress all around and I'm looking forward to next year and continuing the great work that the teachers are doing for MTSS. Thank you. >> Thank you, Sam Elementary. Hello. So this year I focus my updates around my building goals for the school year which has been attendance, family engagement, and building literacy for academic success. Reaching these goals takes more than just a dedicated leader. It
requires a strong team who works collaboratively to accomplish a shared vision. Tonight I want to thank my team for all their dedication and support they have given to me. This year we have been able to provide multiple family evening events that have welcomed community members into our building. These events could not have happened without the driving force of Courtney Bersaw, Stephanie Scan, Megan Laz, and the PTO. Their planning and organization allowed for these events to be successful and fun. Attendance will be a continued focus every year. Thank you to my student support team who has helped to build positive relationships with families, have a productive had productive conversations on how to help our most struggling students and celebrated the building attendance for each school month. Lastly, I want to thank Megan Salisbury from Grafton Library
and Kimbero from Steventown Library for volunteering their time each month to provide literacy experiences. Without a librarian in the building, this filled a necessary need and supported our goal of improved literacy. We look forward to continuing our partnership next year. So, thank you to my dedicated faculty and staff who have shown flexibility and commitment in meeting our students varying needs. I hope everyone enjoys their summer. Thank you, Jere Middle School, High School, and Athletics. I just want to um inform you that we had a very successful um chicken barbecue tonight. We sold over 150 chicken dinners. Um, we also had a really nice spring sports awards banquet yesterday that was very well attended. Um, I just want to thank the sports booster for their support in the banquet and the fundraisers tonight. Um, good news
for our spring sports teams. We had three scholar athlete team awards. We had varsity softball, varsity boys uh track and field and varsity girls track and field. And then we are preparing for our upcoming um sports seasons for the fall. We're still looking for coaches. If you have anyone that you know would be a good fit for us to do something, are you looking for certain coaches or you have >> um cross country, cross country? Okay. Um and then modified boy soccer. >> Okay. So cross country and modified boy soccer. There's no JD. >> There there could be JB there. we have someone interested in JB. If there's a team, if there's not a team out, >> thank you. Y do this a little different. Open mind. First, I want to congratulate Ariel. Can't think
of a more deserving candidate. Someone who's been here 22 years. She graduated from here. Berlin through um she's done a fabulous job already and pretty much in position and I only see bigger and better things. So congratulations to you and thank you to the board of education and Ken for allowing us to hire that position. Second Derek I want to congratulate you and thank you for volunteering and all that you've done. people who have not been on the board of education that don't realize how much time you have to put into it. You get an extraordinary fee for it of zero dollars, but you spend a lot of time on top of your own work and family and other commitments. So, thank you so much. Um, I still got the great honor of having your
children. And then, uh, Ken, happy birthday. I accomplished a lot in your life at 25. So, uh, I lost my hair early. Very early. >> Yes. Um, thank you for your kind words and thank you to the board of education for uh me for tenure. Truthfully, it's a more of a reflection of my staff and everybody that I work with. Without them, obviously there's no success. So, I just want to thank everybody. very quickly. We uh we had the academic support where it was new, something that candid at the school district that you want to say um and about 60% of the students that we wanted to come in that came in um consider that a success was the first time we got feel it out. we have met and we are looking forward to
January doing it again. Um we thought it was very successful regions begin tomorrow. Um and then uh moving up ceremony which Miss Hayes runs the show on that is Tuesday and that's our test run for upper soccer field. Um we met yesterday for about two hours graduation on so we are ready and then Friday is at six o'clock so we look forward to it >> if I mention the summer school education program yes you did um so again credit but I mean one of the we always talk about transitions and transition people think that students are in the building already that transition from eighth grade nth grade is not a big It actually is a big deal. Middle school and high school, two different entities. Um so we have some at risk students um in
eighth grade. Um Miss Hayes is team leader who does magnificent job with uh the eighth grade team. Um we met Ken and I uh met with them yesterday. Uh and we have some students that we are going to bring in over the summer and work on skill based not so much grade but skill pieces to try to get their skills to improve like reading comprehension mathematical skills things like that. So hopefully they'll have a a strong foundation going into nth grade. Plus, we all know research is very clear. If a student doesn't do any work from June to September, they regress. So, we're going to try to uh stop that regression and hopefully give them confidence and it's going to be like a very small group or oneonone. Um so, we're grateful to have that
opportunity. >> So, that's the question in the sense that the question was how often are they going to meet? Um then how often were the hours they're going to receive? >> Yeah, it's going to be the teachers are going to determine based on each student how many hours of tutoring they're going to need and then they'll have the summer to complete that those hours one to one with the teacher. We've carved out and I think Colleen will work to carve out some funding for this so it does cost some money to be able to do this. I want to start with eighth grade future years. We would love to be able to bring it down to sixth and seventh grade as well. So we provide more for the middle school students, kids struggles for the
year, not just to pass them on, make sure they're prepared for next grade. But the eighth grade, nth grade piece with reach exam, nth grade, it's really really Dave and I both agree very important to target that eighth grade start. >> How many kids do you think are qualifi? >> Well, right now I think it's fair to say 8 to 10. So what we're doing is we we have already um >> 40 >> yeah 43. So what we're doing right now is like the most immediate risk students and what we look for is common themes like common press I'll say six kids have a struggle reading comprehension you know and so we may group them like once we figure that out then students that may not be at risk but could use it then possibly
invite you I can give you an update at least on um it's our first time doing it So we're kind of feeling it out. >> We are and that's >> absolutely and that's why it's a very good point that we are customizing it and you know it is an individual plan. So and that's why we're kind of flushing it out right now and ensuring that if you know certain amount of students need this that we're going to provide it for them and then how we're going to provide it for them is the next step. Thank you, Mr. B. Again, congratulations on tenure. Opportunity for public comment. Okay, no one signed up to public comment. We will move on to the date and location of the next uh board meeting. We have our rework and our
regular meeting which will be held on Wednesday, July 1st at 700 p.m. So not 7:15, 700 p.m. um in the auditorium of this building. And then our our meeting after that will be Tuesday, August 18th, again 700 p.m. in this August 18th. So, we're going to be moving to 7 p.m. starting in July >> for all means. >> Okay. Um, we have an executive session related to personnel. Um, and I think come back at around 9:15 to accept the budget vote right now. No, there's no >> results. You don't accept it. >> All right. >> I wouldn't give it to >> 9:15. So, we'll go to executive session for um personnel related. We're going to come back out as soon as Don lets us know she has the results. We'll read them out loud and
then return back to executive session. >> I'm gonna read it right here. So like >> yeah. Miss
