this is a special presentation from the Brighton Central School District Board of Education evening welcome to the Brighton Central School District Board of Education business meeting and budget review for Tuesday February 28th I will note first please that the uh this session the regular public board meeting is at five o'clock as it is right now we will also be having a community Forum at 7 pm to address a number of issues associated with Dei meeting is called to order we thought we were going to do a Brighton Believers award tonight but yanissa is not available so we will expect to be able to honor her at a future date but we are not without Awards um since we are discussing Awards it seems the perfect opportunity for just a minute to talk about our superintendent
appropriate as a school district Brighton has many challenges we celebrate successes while simultaneously acknowledging areas of deficiency or performance gaps this parallel track of recognizing winds while acknowledging gaps can describe virtually every school district in the United States kind of like patting yourself on the back for a personal success and then giving yourself a kick in the rear for falling short in another area so we will speak for a moment about a success that is an incredible honor and simultaneously acknowledge that we have a community form at 7 pm tonight to discuss ways to eliminate the use of racist language in our schools regarding the success this background there are approximately 685 public school districts in New York state 685. and 16 800 covering the entire United States across the 685 New York state public
school districts as was previously announced a couple of months ago Dr Kevin McGowan was awarded the 2023 New York State Council of superintendents superintendents the acronym is niskus superintendent of the year [Applause] announced a couple of months ago to his credit Dr McGowan was quick to acknowledge his family his school administration team and certainly the students and teachers for any of the successes achieved in our district now when a superintendent wins at the state level they become candidates at the national level for the American Association of school administrators aasa National superintendent of the year Dr McGowan was chosen as one of four finalists along with PJ caposi from Illinois Matthew Hillman of Minnesota and Trent North from Georgia as part of the screening process all four candidates were interviewed over three days in Washington DC
by the selection committee at the end of this process on Thursday February 16th just over a couple weeks ago Dr Kevin McGowan was announced as the 2023 aasa National superintendent of the year [Applause] a little more background this honor has been given since 1988 for 35 years and is has been awarded to New York State superintendents only three times in those 35 years and one of those three times is Dr McGowan's award it's an incredible honor one that recognizes the work everyone under Kevin's leadership is undertaking the teachers the students the support staff parents and Guardians School leadership our administrators and the Board of Education all of these groups remain focused on how to improve in all areas of Education in Brighton because of Kevin's leadership as always Dr McGowan acknowledged everyone in the bcsd
community but himself when the 100 was announced it is tempting to infer from the state and National Honors Dr McGowan received that any of us the administration the board the principals the entire bcsd team believe that we have it all figured out to think that we have solved all our problems that we are declaring Victory with these Awards we are not the work ahead of us this year and in future years remains daunting and will take all of us speaking honestly at times disagreeing and having productive conflict while maintaining a focus of getting better some of the changes we will drive will seem too much for some yet not enough for others our community is diverse and defines success in many different ways with sometimes conflicting definitions as always it won't be easy speaking for
the entire Board of Education I will say this firmly for all the challenges we will continue to face one of them is not a weakness at the superintendent rule under Dr McGowan's leadership we have worked every day to be transparent with performance gaps be creative with Solutions and to relentlessly measure ourselves not just against past performance but also against current expectations we know that the Brighton Central school district has the Right leader to address difficult complex and sometimes painful issues candidly those of us who have worked with Dr McGowan have seen what a great leader he is and we didn't need State and National Honors to show us how fortunate Brighton is to have him at the home but they are nice and their objective recognition of his outstanding leadership and it is still very
telling that he performed at such an astounding level against his peers we congratulate Dr McGowan on his niskis State superintendent of the year in this aasa National superintendent of the Year award we could not be more proud to work with him and are grateful for his leadership in our community congratulations Kevin [Applause] foreign can I say something yeah you cannot acknowledge anybody else bill can you mute the other microphone uh I I will just say this you know very quickly not surprisingly I'll start with a story I um was very flattered and honored and grateful for the state recognition earlier in the year and I did say and will continue to say that it was fascinating to me and really gratifying that the work done in this District to serve all kids by the people
in this room current and past was being recognized in that moment and that it's the body of work that is reviewed and talked about and the the way once you're nominated you submit materials and you submit materials about the district and I felt really great about that and and floored you know a professional and personal highlight in your life and humbled and yes uncomfortable in the sense that I feel like everybody here has made that happen and that the nature of it is they recognize one person but it is the work of many that has that happened and in years past I've attended this conference in a national award winners chosen out of the 50 state winners and I've always admired the story of the person and the work and listened intently to to that
and and always tried to think about what are the what are the things about those people that are leadership qualities and traits that we should be thinking about how do you learn from that and what's interesting and compelling about their story and the work in their districts and been really impressed but always it was like this distant you know oh those are really cool things because I don't think anybody in this District you're in this room is interested in or has been interested in well how do you put yourself in a in a spotlighted position but rather I think we often in this place look at how do we learn from other people and so I had very um certainly determined that well this is a really nice thing but those are other people and
that happens with other people and when I was called in December and said well you know you're a finalist I thought that's really that's not not because I'm not exceptionally proud of the kids in this room and the work that's done here and the work that's done by everybody here I just always felt like that's other people and those are compelling stories and incredible work done by other people and I went in January and met with the committee to talk about all of you and to talk about the work and to have a great opportunity to reflect on the work and reflect on where we are and met the other finalists and have gotten to know them quite well I'm glad you mentioned them they're remarkable people that you know we continue to keep in
touch and have a group text share ideas and enjoy each other it's really that's been a fun part of this and walked onto that stage really feeling as though this is really such a great honor just to be standing here and talking about the work never ever expecting uh for for my name to be called and for our work to be in that space again not because I don't think it Stacks up against everybody in the country but because we just don't think about it in those terms we think about it in terms of the win every day for kids and the way gaps have been closed for kids here so um I will be very forthright in saying to you that it has been an incredible personal thrill totally unexpected and a beautiful thing
that I feel great about because the ripples to each of you and I hope that you recognize any of your work great about it because I hope that my kids have the opportunity to enjoy it for a moment and my mom and dad do and so that's just been incredible and everything you said was beautiful and is so appreciated I wouldn't be having this conversation if it were not for the team that we have and the people here in this room so I do appreciate that and and I think we work hard at it but we work hard at it together and so thank you I will never forget the moment or forget the space and the Beautiful things you've said so much appreciated thank you I did note a minute ago that while we
have a community Forum at seven o'clock we also have opportunity on this agenda right now for participation from the public for anybody who would like to speak or provide feedback to us just so the microphone picks you have to just state your name and what town you live in uh Aaron Whitmer I live in Brighton um I found out this week from my second graders teacher that I guess first I'll say we've been very happy with the education we've received in Brighton um my kids you know I one of the things we love about Brayton is just I feel like we meet the needs of all children and um I can say from my own experience there are three people in this room right now that I can you know just applaud for specifically um
doing that Mrs Shirley's Mr Tappan Mrs Evans um all know that my my children have had you know needs on the high end that have been met and then needs where they've needed help that have been met and so incredibly grateful for that and so I was disappointed to hear this week that the accelerated math program at fres will be discontinued um because I think that that goes against everything that for me the Brighton education has stood for um and I'm really just curious to know um you know what what sort of evidence was used to make that decision um what stakeholders were consulted to make that decision and if that is a final decision or if that is open for discussion thank you so I'll uh just the format of this is not typically
a back and forth so it's not to dodge the question it's a really good question and we're happy to provide you with a lot of feedback on that Dr Rio will give you a call tomorrow she's been really involved in that conversation and can work you through the entire discussion about what is happening what isn't happening what people are perceiving and where we're heading thanks anybody else next up we have approval of the agenda you all have obviously received the band's a copy of the agenda any questions on it motion to approve the agenda so moved moved by Karen second seconded by Eleanor all those in favor all right as well you've received the minutes from our last meeting February 7th uh any edits changes or comments with regards to those minutes motion to approve
those minutes moved by Susan seconded by Esther all those in favor [Music] um budget update cheers when there's a lot on that one so this is uh the latest in the ongoing process of developing the budget and presenting to you where we're at and it's uh kind of a little bit more of the meat and potatoes of where we're going to land and what some of the current status of the budget process are I will say generally for those tuning in and always wondering because typically at this time of the year it feels like we're saying okay here's kind of the not doomsday an over exaggerated circumstance but it's not often been great news so we're usually talking to you about here's where now here's where we need to get to and there's a distance
in between and it's going to involve a lot of the nail system potential reductions it's not really the message that we're coming to you with today the message we're coming to you with today is actually we're in a pretty good place a really good place and the bigger picture of that is that the governor has proposed 100 percent of foundation Aid based on the formula to be paid to each district included in that are other accelerations based on inflation in our increase in enrollment some pieces that make that promising that said that also does not mean that we're at a point where we're saying to you know it's all roses and we can uh you know spend frivolously not that we'd ever be saying that but the point is we are always still in the
mode of looking at how can we be most effective and most efficient and be respectful of the resources that taxpayers are providing both from the state tax perspective right because people we're all paying into that but from the local property tax share of that as well so uh it is great news but it's great news that has to be received thoughtfully and deeply in terms of positioning us to be in the right place for the long term can be really careful in that because there are big factors at play with the increase in Aid comes a tremendous responsibility to also be thinking about how to effectively Implement that to position ourselves for the longer term so who's going to walk through the the greater details of that and some of the projections in a way
that he does that is much more intelligent than I could but the bigger picture items in this presentation are the impact of the executive budget and the local Revenue projections what that would look like the final tax cap calculation which then computation which will be adopted by the board tonight also in a separate motion later in the meeting also an update on spending projections so that formulation of the budget when we talk about evaluating where program is and what we'll need for next year and just to mention to you that we still would like Community feedback so several reminders have gone out about the budget thought Exchange the link is in the e-news on Fridays it will be again this Friday damn put another reminder out last night as well so please jump in and
give us your feedback in terms of what we should be thinking about in terms of the budget process we love all the community feedback we can possibly get in that and this is just a reminder we will be sharing that information in a couple weeks with the board when that Exchange closes so up to this point we've been talking in the budget at high level uh 50 000 foot View and we've been looking at um you know budget factors generally we're at a point right now where we've put together a preliminary budget package the revenue Side Of The Ledger and the expenditure site alleger which I'll provide an overview with over these next couple of slides so the first thing we want to look at is the state aid in the executive budget proposal and
just comparatively where it's been you can see Foundation Aid this is the full promise of foundation aid plus and inflation factor of 7.2 percent that the state put in there so the amount that we were projecting even last year is is greater than this year and then we have the reimbursable lead so that's all the money that we have to front in the in year one and then we get a percentage reimbursement in year two you can see how those have changed over over the last couple of years so what's that look like on the revenue side of the ledger so these are our major categories and you see some of the increases that reflect current economics like sales tax for instance we can see a pretty substantial increase in budget there based on the
first two quarters that were received in 2223 and where we see those Trends heading so the way this is presented is the percentage increase 8.2 percent and then what that allows for is a spending consideration so sales tax is an unrestricted Revenue Source that's about a point three percent uh increase or relation to to our spending going through the big items obviously then the state and federal aid almost a 26 percent increase which equates to a 6.9 percent um corollary increase to spending with that increase though one of the the preliminary recommendations to the superintendent and to the board of education is to use their Foundation Aid and reduce our Reliance off of appropriated fund balance so we're initially recommending a million dollar decrease to the appropriated fund meal so if you recall last year
we brought in a lot of the money because we were experiencing some inflationary costs what I'm proposing at this point is that we use the stability of the foundation Aid to reduce our Reliance on appropriate fund balance and then we could be accountable for the risk margins that are in the spending side of the budget so overall a 6.9 million dollar excuse me increase in Revenue sources which equates to a 7.4 percent increase in revenues and then therefore in in spending availability when we look at the property tax cap calculation again it's complex formula it's not the two percent that's one factor within the formula so I'll kind of take you through our base year Levy then there's an application of a property tax-based growth factor which in Brighton has been pretty negligible in fact
last year it was zero so we get very little new money because of growth in the community which is represents a stable property tax base then we have the overall the change in our comitas 157 000 this year next year projected to be 165 we only have one property left on there so that does not have a significant impact on the overall tax levy calculation should there be new development that will factor in in future years then the next big exclusion under the property tax cap formula is our tax tax levy for Capital purposes so we went when we go to the voters and we present a capital project the debt associated with that and the offsetting building Aid is factored in so this year we have 1 point eight million dollars in our base
year next year we have 1.6 million dollars the only reason for this decrease is because of the completion of the BOCES Capital project so we have a little bit of a decrease there which ultimately lowers the property tax levy limit um to 1.75 one thing I failed to mention is this two percent that's the inflationary factor it's the greater of two percent or the rate of inflation uh or sorry the lesser of and so two percent is our cap this year so the levy limit generates about a million dollars more in in revenues and it's a 1.75 percent increase year over year in potential property taxes so when we put that revenue and we match the the corresponding expenditures the 6.9 million dollars or 7.4 percent um preliminary increase in spending and the object level
expenditures that we present on a monthly basis to the Board of Education um are as follows the salaries and wages of 7.3 percent and we'll go through a slide in just a minute that kind of reconciles that that's not certainly just contractual increases that is investment in new positions adjustments in class sizes and a multitude of other factors employee benefits some of which are related to sailor increases other which are related to negotiated benefits BOCES expenditures look at that that's 10 so primary spending within there is special education costs and certainly our technology infrastructure that are driving some significant increases in spending and then supplies and services will go through and debt and transfers that's based on the project Debt Service schedule as was presented just last month by our financial consultants so just a
high level allocation of unrestricted spending you look at what the board the UN earmarked Revenue so Foundation Aid and the tax office those are our two big unrestricted Revenue sources that the board of education has discretion over when we look at the spender spending that matches that or somewhat um translates into that we have our contractual wages benefits those are contracts approved by the Board of Education we have financial planning so that's what I recommended in the revenue presentation of using this Foundation Aid as a stable reliable Revenue source and offsetting our Reliance on appropriated fund balance that's this yellow part here mental health and intervention so those are within the salary proposal to bring in the Investments we've made using the federal dollars and bring that into our general fund budget now as a
consistent consistent program support to our student base tuition and services a lot of that is mandated costs responsive to student needs contract Transportation also mandated services and that's responsive to the inflationary we're budgeting 7.1 percent for State use 7.2 percent and then as well as out of District placements finding the transportation to support those and then you see other inflationary factors and other new positions class size for instance as I'll present so digging more further into the budget Factor specific to salaries and wages as I talked about the contractual increases the new positions that I just mentioned we're proposing three new positions to achieve the the target set class sizes outlined on the right hand side of this slide electives again being able to support our student election we staff our high school very differently
than most high schools in that we are responsive to student elections as opposed to us to saying here's the Staffing allocations offer the courses that will fit in there we're really responsive to what our students are asking for in the election elective selections and then some other mandated services that are requiring the increase of two teachers here's a summary of the federal positions that we're bringing over from the federal fund into the general fund again using the stability of the foundation Aid to permanently fund those positions special education services literacy intervention math intervention reading School counseling support School psychology supports so that's a summary that we're using right now we have one more year of the federal dollars and then that is expiring so we're proposing to use the increase in Foundation Aid now to
make that a permanent base and that way we're not relying on next year when we're not sure of the financial circumstances or what the amount of new money will be to wait until the the final expiration other budget factors in BOCES as I talked about you could see the largest increases in our special education again that's really being responsive to what our students need and what the recommendations are from the committee of special education Business and Technology Services cyber security continues to be a significant risk for the district and really for all businesses so continuing to support our infrastructure and our one-to-one technology is requiring an additional 137 thousand dollars when we look at some of the other inflationary factors that I talked about our legal fees continue to be higher than budgeted so you'll
see transfers going into this year I think those are going to continue to be high with the existence of the child victims that claim with other other challenges utilities and custodial we're seeing increases in our delivery fees we're seeing increase in our rates just like most people are in their home so that that requires an adjustment based on usage special education contracts intuitions again responsive to to mandates and student needs and contract Transportation at 7.1 percent inflationary Factor plus increase amount of District placements is a pretty significant increase in contract transportation what we've been talking about and this is a slide that was actually presented by our financial consultants we've talked about this every opportunity I've had to present budget is this opportunity for reinvestment um right here where we have the drop-off in our
local share of the portion of our property taxes that are dedicated to capital investment we have a drop off there and again our plan was always to be maintain a stable car payment so what this means is an opportunity for investment of approximately 38 million dollars which we're talking about spreading over two two referendums the first referendum opportunity would be May of 2023 so we're looking at proposing an 18 million dollar Capital project that would be no additional cost to the taxpayers so it would be the same amount of the same portion of the tax levy that's being distributed today would remain the same it would be earmarked towards capital investment what we're proposing as far as scope to align to this 18.3 million dollars redesigned the front Festival vestibule excuse me at Fry's make
a more secure entrance way improvements to the exterior lighting and HVAC improvements so it's a combination of certainly health and safety our building condition survey core Building Systems and then some modernization of of of our classroom instructional spaces so at the middle school exterior doors health and safety nature security badge access classroom and Renovations again modernization Makerspace Concepts investing in that area elevator replacement hallway lighting and floor replacements and at Brighton High School we've done previously we presented on renovations to the tech suite and the music Suite so those are pretty pretty significant Renovations really gotten rehab of those two spaces at the high school so you know we outline these steps every year in the process just the summary is right now next steps for us will be to continue to be looking at
those budget to actual projections how programs are working what our needs are uh into next year and challenge the assumptions that we've made early in the budget process and continue to collaborate with building principles department heads to look at the most efficient ways to deliver the service that we're attempting to deliver to meet the needs of all kids and continue to evaluate cost reduction strategies we'll evaluate any of the new spending allocations measuring that to our blueprint our strategic plan really prioritize the use of fund balance appropriated reserves and make sure we're setting ourselves up for long term but continue to evaluating our prospects in each of those areas and continue listening to our school Community we have a budget Forum in this room tomorrow at one o'clock we'll present an abbreviated sketch of this
but ask people who are attending for any feedback they'd like to provide and remind people again to please jump into the thought exchange and provide us feedback which will ensure to the community and to all of you do you have any questions for Luray no we obviously began this discussion a little while ago when we were waiting on feedback from Albany and did receive that I think we could construe that as more good news than we've received in the past and now it's just a matter of how we don't just look at next year but the next few years sort of like short-term and long term so any other questions from the board great thank you thank you very much an aspect of that later in the agenda up for approval the principal reports Dr
Hall [Laughter] all right thank you everybody and actually several things I'm going to share tonight is really just uh and our kids who are presenting um about model un this evening is just a lot of thanks again to our Board of Education and of course to our superintendent of the Year there he is for allowing us to have such incredible opportunities um the exchanges I I talk with principals every month as part of my my monthly Monroe County group meetings and a lot of schools have not gone back to the exchange programs that they had prior to covet and I'm really excited to say that you support us in three incredible exchanges plus a fourth that will be happening but over the break and I'll be highlighting more of our Israeli trip to Moda in
some of our students who are here were there somewhere in Germany and somewhere in Spain and just incredible trips all around we're starting some new Partnerships in Spain and just thank you and we're going to share more of that at our next board report when we have a little more time and of course our French students were here already celebrating those 43 French students here with three teachers it's a 30-year plus exchange most of these are 20 30 years and it's just been pretty exciting there were all of our students and in April 31 students will be heading to France and four staff including me principals so I'll be going to France for April break yeah looking forward to that but I'm not good so I'm really excited about it some really great friends and
memories and just an awesome time also thanks to again your support cast and crew Matilda this is actually the stage crew it's not the full cast but what an incredible show if you were there it was amazing I've called all the the main parts down just to give to the students to give them a Kudos but what an incredible show and just all the hard work that goes into it and our stage crew of course in addition to all the actors um the advisors also had an opportunity to attend this presentation it um RIT with Becky Wiggins in our language of literature and oppression course at Brighton High School um Nicole Hannah Jones who wrote the 1619 project presented there and actually saw I think Miss Christina Lee there as well it was quite an
incredible presentation students got a lot out of it and it was just an amazing to hear this interview with Nicole Hannah Jones and finally just looking at our model un Club it's been around for decades ever since I've been at the high school so many many decades it's grown in nature and maybe you know you have a little idea of what model un's all about but Brennan Quinn has really helped to take this to the next level I had the pleasure of traveling with many of our young students to Syracuse this year for their one of many competitions during the year and they are always coming back with Awards and it's an amazing club that I just want you to hear more about and I think we're going to turn over to Louisa batek hi
my name is Louis abatek and I'm a ninth grader model un or month is a club that provides opportunities for students across counties in Upstate New York to learn more about global politics and topics formally debate on these topics and in general meet a lot of new people with different backgrounds from all around the club calls for students to collaborate with one another and roleplay delegates in a simulation of the United Nations committees students are assigned a nation and they must look at the issue that is before them through the lens of the nation they're representing for example this upcoming conference the human rights committee is talking about the killing of protesters in Iran outdated criminal justice system in the U.S and topics similar to that model un is an amazing opportunity for high school
students to learn about global issues that affect diverse groups of people in our current society and out of Clara hello I'm Claire milosvic and I'm a 10th grader at Brighton High School each year model un hosts three different conferences in which students from all across Upstate New York have the option of attending and competing in the past few months of this school semester we've already had numerous students from Brighton High School participate in both the conferences hosted by Hilton High School at the beginning of the school semester and then along with a conference at Syracuse University upcoming upcoming month of March we have the final conference of the Year hosted by St John Fisher College and run by several students from across Monroe County uh hi I'm Norman Condon I'm an 11th grader I've been
doing model un now for about two years I'm going to be talking about the preparations required for a conference before a conference every participant is expected to write a short page page and a half essay on what topics will be covered and addressed in their individual committee what their country is and how their country plans to um solve the issues in this way model un encourages critical thinking and problem solving as I would research these complex Global issues and learn to analyze multiple perspectives and evaluate different solutions these skills are absolutely crucial in many areas of life from academic research to problem solving and personal conflicts um beyond that uh each participant should go in with the understanding that even just for 10 seconds they'll be talking to a group of mostly strangers on topics
that are literally foreign to them uh it's kind of jarring at first but Brighton model un promotes public speaking and communication skills through this way students must speak in front of their peers defend their positions and engage in diplomatic negotiations with others this experience definitely allowed me to get out of my shell and my confidence improved greatly from it and these skills are extremely valuable in a wide range of academic and in the future professional settings I'm going to pass it off to Annie and she's going to talk about how actual conferences are run hi I'm Annie I'm a senior currently and I've been a part of modern for about seven years I believe um so as you can see you know as all my peers have already said you know at these conferences each
committee is run by two chairs as we call them um and they're all high school students from different schools all around the Monroe County and these conferences are run by four to six secretary generals who are also from Monterey County um and as Louisa mentioned before these conferences are a time and during these committee times students are coming from all different backgrounds representing a variety of all different nations around the world and really just working with one another to formally debate on pressing issues at hand and a lot of times that in these committees they come with different backgrounds so not a lot of opinions match a lot of times but I think that's really the beauty of Mata Yoon is that you get to debate about things that against other people who have different
opinions on different issues um and then in addition to these you know when you walk into committee you're seeing a lot of students uh really collaborating with one another and having just a phenomenal time um getting to know other students from other places um and additionally you know each conference has something that we call jar Wars um and during these jar Wars they're just a fun way to incentivize students to donate to a charity that the people who run the conference choose and sometimes these committees that the students are in they have a little bit of extra fun so these incentives that they call they would do when they reach a certain amount of money in committee to donate to the charity sometimes the incentives could include getting pied in the phase yes I talk
from experience or getting silly stream you know just a fun way to really relax the environment and overall it's just a great time to be there with a bunch of students all around and really to getting to know one another and just enjoying the time and getting to know more about the world hi my name is Michael Chestnut I'm a 12th grader and I'll be graduating in June and uh that's me up there [Music] this was this picture was taken at the last conference in Syracuse cinnamon what I was doing at the time was for size besides technological development I was presenting a case on how to build infrastructure in order to in order to build AI in developing countries you because Greece which is the country that I was representing had built an AI
that greatly curbed kovid's increase during August 2020 December 2020 and I brought that forward because we did not have the proper infrastructure before then it was built and then the AI was put into effect so I'm presenting that case in order to push it forward to anyone who has a similar take with their country on the right side um it is a speaker on the Ukrainian Russian conflict a guest speaker this guest speakers occasionally come in to talk about specified if guest speaker to come in to talk about specific topics so I believe this one was I actually wasn't Russia Ukrainian I know it's working pretty much but I forget the exact committees NATO NATO conference yes so he came in and talked a little bit about the war and I believe it was one
of the topics as well so when you your country for your position paper you try to push the topic push your country's own experiences as much as you can to help with other nations even if you say accidentally write three position papers on the wrong committee I I wouldn't have experience yes crisis now this crisis is fun basically so with model U1 it is typical model u n is more is parliamentary crisis is more chaotic basically instead of representing a country you represent a certain person like in this upcoming Saint John Fisher conference we will be representing figures from the Third Crusade in this case I believe I'm 99 sure that this was the cinema conference as well it was CCP it was between um the Chinese cabinet and the Taiwanese cabinet to try and
resolve um a border issue I believe that nuclear war did break out but you can't win them all right it was it was quite interesting yeah but you can see this you know basically a news flash came over in the committee and they had to react to it uh I would like to start off with a thank you to the board for having us today I'm Omer okutan a freshman in the high school I've been doing model un for one year in the high school and two years in the middle school as a page uh in this photo that's me in committee uh presenting my solution to a trading dispute and a trading conflict between the Arabic Nations and it's to be voted on by the rest of the committee and here in uh Malu
and you basically go up present your papers and it's voted on by the rest of the committee if it is typically passed uh and it's basically an environment where everybody can speak out even if it's for 10 seconds you get to have a voice right there and right now and Mario means a lot of things to me um during my time in Maryland I've had the privilege to be part of this club that means so many things to me for me model un Nations is a diverse Community where my peers and I raise awareness about prominent world events or crisis and become more educated citizens of our school furthermore this awareness not only uh raises your overall knowing of the world but uh it forces us to look us look at situations with a bigger
scope and help us assess situations to the fullest extent I would like to end by extending another thanks to all members of the board and especially Dr Hall for making things [Applause] so again just an incredible Club the discussions they have is is an amazing thing to watch moving quickly along here at winter sports music assembly thanks to exact Council I think we have two uh or one board members daughters maybe and a son of a superintendent of the Year smashing pies various faces and that was a problem on stage yeah and this particular just look at the face of her on this side and then the smash face of Mr Cuomo the better faces his face in the first one he looks a little anxious she was ready to go but uh it's exciting
um they had a great time and the Bruin came out made history on February 3rd Phoebe Martin is the Bruin if you don't know Phoebe she's amazing [Applause] job we were supposed to talk about academic Excellence I think I covered a lot of academic Excellence right here within our students report cards are available and they were mailed home and look at all the events in March it's one big trip band concert or activity oh thank you [Applause] thank you right now students good evening Bart good evening principal Administration all right so updates at French Road our partnership with our sister School in Israel we um I collaborating on a couple of things uh the student council is creating a newsletter um and the school in Israel created a newsletter so they shared their newsletter with
us and when the student council completes the newsletter Dr Rio they're going to share their newsletter with um the school in Israel um the student council is also going to zoom as well with the students um in Israel with uh the third graders are going to share a story in the library with Wendy dime our librarian and then the fifth grade is going to do games against collaboration we were able to have the Bruin from the high school come over because we have Bruce the bear but got to upgrade so we use the Bruin from the high school for our star qualities assembly two weeks ago we went through scenarios that either represented the star qualities or did not and the students have to give a thumbs up a thumbs down if the star qualities
will be represented or if they were not and Bruce who we call the bear Bruce was um modeling the scenarios with the thumbs up and thumbs up mm-hmm we had a couple of concerts um this month we had fourth and fifth grade course uh we also had chamber orchestra Orchestra and blue band and red band as well as we go back fourth grade band two so we had about three concerts this month um students participated in health moves mines fundraiser that was activity after the fundraiser was over they did different stations uh during PE FYI those little cups are heavy anything fall on you Black History Month I was so excited about Black History Month we are culminating Black History Month tomorrow but the first week was black is courageous so during that week we
recognized black Americans who demonstrate being being the demonstrated being courageous week two was black is strong and this last week is black it's beautiful so that's a picture of the front hallway of fres that has um multitude of black Americans influential black Americans and with that we also had grade level presentations so third and fourth grade last week was able to um have a presentation from the work for chuku foundation for humanitarian Aid that's actually a grandmother and one of one of our third grade students her parents started a school in Kenya um in 1940s because they realized there were students that were not able to go to school and now two of the daughters run to school so she came and gave a presentation not only about the school but she also dressed the
students up and we had a fashion show today we're honored to have herb Smith come from the RPO and tomorrow our schoolwide presentation will be Lulu Westbrooks if you've recognize the name that is Mr Henry and Mr Harvey's mother who is a Pioneer civil rights activist there's actually a documentary about her um and about her story so we're excited to have her come tomorrow there's the pictures from the third and fourth grade presentation um students who model the dress even had a teacher dressed up as well um these are some of this is the displays around the school and I wish I would have took pictures today because all the classrooms are finished and you should see some of the amazing work student works all around the school it was just amazing so queen of
soul The Rainbow Club did a recognition to um LBGTQ um influential black Americans This is Black authors outside of the library um this had a wide range of this of oh this one was Michael Jordan um Ella Fitzgerald I mean Tuskegee Airmen anything that you can imagine I mean the scope and depth um of these projects were amazing more pictures Jackie Robinson Amanda Gorman just more pictures from black history month and then on Friday we are having a parent um family event it's going to be a Hands-On art learning experience led by two members of our PTSA the Dei group it's going to be art they're going to do a presentation and then they're going to create an art experience for parents so it's going to be for Council Rock and Fries just because age
appropriate they're going to make the things that I think caters five would be more interested in and we got to do academic Excellence updates as you know grade 215 is going with wisdom pilate teachers are meeting with the literacy coach every two cycles um they're creating the scheduled teachers can visit each other's classrooms the building Master the building thinking classrooms and Mathematics is still happening teacher incorporated number of Worlds the science and math committees digging into the new New York State science investigations if you didn't know the Practical part of it the Practical part of it where it was Hands-On it's not it's no longer happening for the math exam is that there's these investigations that happen K-5 so we're digging into that and letters training is also still happening in the next cohort is
going to start soon right and coming up we have student reviews coming up this week yeah letting social studies committee meeting is tomorrow I've talked about Black History Month read Across America which I'm excited about I think many of you may be coming over for read Across America I hope to read um we have math team this week and next week pts meeting with the principal our school base Equity team our Multicultural club and Irish music dance assembly is coming back that I guess that's been missing for a while because of covet any questions well first I think this is your last update I was going to say something about that but you can go ahead and say go ahead hi Friday thank you thank you so much for all that you brought to our
district while you were here your new opportunity sounds very exciting and very challenging both at the same time right and we are so grateful for the time we were able to spend with you so thank you very much thank you to my colleagues for always for welcoming me with open arms and that's all I'm gonna say because I'm not one to get all emotional but thank you it's only so long for now Sharon it's not goodbye so we're very blessed thank you Danielle we started off uh this was actually at the end of January but it filtered into February as well um we had our 506 family orientation and we were able to meet with a whole bunch of exciting uh excited and really nervous fifth grade parents to talk about all the things that
we have going on at TCMS and the transition that we're planning for them so on the right there is a is a new web page that we created we're really trying to centralize everything for parents and families so that it's more navigable think more easily Navigator so this has been working really well we had uh students create or fill out the course selection process already so they're picking their world languages and their music and things that they want to get involved in and we're sixth grade teachers right now are also creating an FAQ document about sixth grade for All Families to give out the spring when we go and meet with when Mr Bean and I go and meet with all the students for us we celebrated a world to job day you may have
seen that NewsChannel 8 was here and the reporter was super excited to celebrate with us and really the idea behind world to job day is to allow our students who wear hijab to explain that for them wearing the hijab is an option it's a choice and that they shouldn't be thought uh felt sorry for they're not being formally oppressed or forced to wear the hijab and it also gives them an opportunity to express what it means to them so some of their peers were really excited and many of the adults were really excited to to support our students who wear the hijab each day we had sixth grade activity night I've said it before but those sixth grade PTSA parents maybe they they leave a lot to live up to because they are fantastic in
their plans everything is seamless they did a pajama night and so much fun for all of the kids lots of smiles we've been celebrating spirit days uh each month and this is hosted by where we're backed by student council so we just had twin day before break decades day was pretty funny lots of 80s lots of neon throughout the building for spirit days so we've got fancy dress day on March 10th I'm interested to see what that's going to be um we continue to encourage students to get involved in clubs and activities we did have another a second Club Fair during lunches a few weeks ago to encourage students who hadn't already gotten connected with clubs to join up and we have some pictures here from culinary Club from Ski Club this is our girls
basketball team doing some volunteer work we had our spelling bee at the end of January also and we have our best buddies so lots of clubs and opportunities for students to get involved in and then celebrations of learning I would be remiss if I didn't have a picture of Mr Thomas in my presentation um I I was talking to Dr Baker yesterday and she said so is it absolutely surreal that you are now Rob's boss so right pretty awesome too but pretty awesome too sometimes but you know he's got his guitar and he's you know he's loving likes of silver but here he's presenting to Marie kataros's students as they were studying China so he pulled out his presentation from history to China and shared it with the students um we've got uh Mr McCarty
who is a new English teacher with us this year created a project uh for his eighth grade students everyone ought to and it was a persuasive project where they had to kind of do a shark tank proposal about something that students should do and they ranged from you know like curing world hunger to um going to bed without your cell phone in your room so really awesome multimedia project that the students were excited to share it's been really great to get in Betsy Rob and I have been going into our SEL Fridays to work with students and meet in circles with them as they explore some of their social emotional topics our sixth grade unit in ela they just finished their social justice unit so these are some of the presentations that students came up
with where they identified a social social justice issue and then some suggestions on how to approach it more positively and then this was just something awesome we celebrated random acts of kindness week last week or the week before break and somebody I think I know who it was but somebody went and put uh sayings like this all throughout the building and it was just really cool to kind of walk through and see the different buildings and the teachers loved it and the students loved it and I loved that somebody did it without needing any recognition for it so it was pretty cool and then we celebrated uh Black History Month throughout the month this year if you walk through our building you can see that our Halls are completely covered with posters and informational information
about individuals and their contributions to society we continued our A to Z challenge again this year where we had 26 different individuals and students walk through and they had a note-taking sheet and learned about them this year we also had intentional selections of supporting texts in our English and social studies classrooms to highlight the works of individuals and also how they connect to the texts that students are currently working with and then um just before break lashara and Sasha came to our BSU meeting and talked with our students and were able to share some very local connections of inspirational folks so super exciting in terms of academic Excellence um we could go on and on about the work that teachers are doing and I know that stuff that that Allison will continue to share all
throughout the year our teachers are engaging with Julie and refining their units and doing curriculum work but as I've said it every single Mac faculty not faculty but board meeting our Focus has really been on mtss and supporting the multiple layers of mtss and really having our mtss leads work closely with teams and students and families to get them the supports that they need before we're jumping to that idea of we need to get the student tested for a potential IEP so we've been seeing some great benefits great Kudos from families in terms of how connected they feel and how they feel like they're a part of the the solution and it's been really exciting to see and we have a ton of concerts and trips like the high school going on in March as
well so I won't go through all of them but the DC trip is at the end of the month and again kudos to Mr Thomas because he's going on if anybody wants to come and hang out at TCM that's the 28th through the 30th I'll be there by myself love to happen great any questions Virginia great work thank you very much principal Tappan phew all right good evening um so we had a lot happening uh since the last time I presented so several second grade classrooms Mrs Porter Mrs Cannon and Mr Koch's second grade class celebrated inventor day in January I believe they did that with several of our instructional coaches and Specialists coming in so Mrs Flaherty came in and built a bridge did a connected activity with literacy Katie found who is our
instructional technology coach uh did some work with robots which uh how to build a robot and the kids actually got to build a robot and then Mrs monikino our math support specialist did a breakout edu which is kind of like a breakout room and you add the education piece so it was all math connected but all around inventors the kids had such a good time and really celebrated in in um speaking of uh Katie Fallon just props to her um she's been in the position just in September um but she has written um bef Grant Nancy Beck Grant as well as having some from the district so we will now have about 6 000 material six thousand dollars worth of materials coming in both consumable but also you can see here robots so this is
Mrs cook Mr Koch's class doing some learning about Dot and dash which are coding robots that the kids are just loving so we're really getting our maker space our hablab lessons off off and running this is a really cool again kudos to uh Brighton education fund Mark Henrietta our social worker wrote a grant last year um and this is a software program called mightier it's a digital program that uses heart rate to teach kids coping skills through game-based play so this is a youngster who Mr Henrietta works with and he was so excited to show me so you wear a wristwatch that takes uh your heartbeat and as he goes through the simulation of a game and gets frustrated or upset or scared it comes on with something giving him the strategies so breathing he
can pause the game and do it but it's a really good simulation of Life of when you're getting in a frustrated moment or an upset moment or even an excited moment how to bring that level down and then they talk about how it transfers to the classroom and Beyond so he was really excited to show me how far he could get on it without going over the heart rate and and losing the game so um I've highlighted several spaces but one that I haven't before is our motor room um which is often used by classes all throughout the day it can be used for indoor recess when we have a slew of indoor recess days but this was a particular I just happened upon this this is Mrs youngman's second grade class as a class
they work together they've been obsessing about the Titanic so in the picture on the right they built the Titanic together and then the picture on the left is them planning it and then when I actually came in I didn't get pictures of it they had dismantled it and had them all as lifeboats and they were all walking across them seeing if they could cross too and they did that all on their own that wasn't prompted by anyone the kids totally pulled it together so just a great use of that space like the other buildings um we did have Black History Month celebrations through ART throughout February most of them were headed up by our librarian Adele moleskovicus this is one where we worked with the high school and they had high school students come down
to read to our classes in um in the library Adele moskovich has also put out to um all anybody she could figure um who could come and do readings um where it featured black uh student or black characters um or authors and the kids all got an experience with that so it was really great we had our incoming kindergarten information night um it was I think the first one back in person I'm not even sure we did last year we did last year we did last year okay so it was our second back in person um this is Mrs Jeffries presenting we had great questions um great thoughts and they got to hear about our kindergarten program and then also uh go down and check out my kindergarten classroom um this again Mrs youngman's getting
a lot of props today but Mrs youngman's second grade class kind of did beyond the Titanic they also did like an impromptu uh Chinese and Lunar New Year um they had a student whose mom came in and presented and then they got really interested in it and they did research and they learned and read and watched and then built uh this Dragon to come and celebrate it did a parade around and they invited people to come watch and it's now on display in the front foyer as you walk into our cafeteria so that everyone can see it along with a book that they used for research so it was really really great and all student-led um which is which is great so every year we do the Council Rock to cut that coincides with with
the Caldecott Awards um and the library students listen to and look at all the different books that might be chosen um and Adele moskovich just kind of puts her own favorites in there our winner was Night Owl and the actual winner which was included in our choices was hot dog so the kids learn about the award but also get to experience some really great literature well have you know I now own most of those books because Peggy was totally captivated by the whole nine yards of it that is the goal so sorry for everybody who had to go out and purchase those books but um and then finally some snow it has come and has gone it has been a little bit of a bummer they're very angry at me because I had to cancel
outdoor recess today because it's just sloshy like kids are sinking into the mud so we are hoping for some more snow to be able to get out because there is nothing better than going watching kids enjoy a fresh snowfall so we will continue to hopefully do that parents please continue to send them prepared to go outside because we get outside as much as possible academic Excellence I talked about the Makerspace our habits of mine International School of Excellence we are in the process of renewing um that which is a continual process but it will now become an annual process as they've changed parent Square utilization our teachers are understanding it using it and communicating clearly and then much like French Road examination of the changes in reading and writing and really looking at our full
implementation of road to reading and then what does that mean for us next and looking at Whit and wisdom and what is the French Road pilot mean for our teachers at uh first and second in particular we've got lots of events we're excited about the Brighton police day of caring our district dodgeball game that's coming up nobody's mentioned that Council Rock is practicing we are we're like in the gym working out uh our trimester ends uh in at the end of March and then we will be sending report cards home paper that's a change and I'll be communicating more about that and then there is no school or it's going to come really quick April break is going to come really quick and it's going to be a long time so any questions no great
information as always any questions from the board thank you very much um now we're going to talk about the 20 the 2023-2024 calendar right yep yes okay can we talk about it yes so I you know we we did before the February break of some highlights very quickly for people to just know where where some of the breaks were but um we will send this out to the community we will send it out with some communication at the end of the week in the e-news it'll be posted right away but I say send it out at the end of the week and the E news to explain to people a couple of key factors that I want to mention to you one is that we continue to work towards the most inclusive calendar we can
and we have to balance all of the time the required number of school days in the calendar with our attempts to include for everyone and anyone as much again as possible holidays that are important in their own religious observance and so we've moved towards a calendar that recognizes Eid al-fatir in the Years where it falls on a weekday on an otherwise school day we have traditionally observed rosh hashan and Yom Kippur on those same parameters when it's on when it falls on a on other otherwise school day and in the future we will be looking at how to also incorporate the third day of Diwali uh same concept right trying to recognize the most predominantly recognized Faith traditions in our community the bithing nature of where they fall on the calendar uh religious holidays in
the Christian faith tradition have been recognized Christmas is obviously always something that's been included as part of the winter break where it falls and you know dictated to by a calendar there's also a County calendar and also a federal calendar and federal holidays and Easter Sunday always falls on a Sunday but good Friday falls on a Friday it is often included in the April break when it falls that way when it isn't it is recognized outside of the break as a primary holiday in the Christian faith tradition it's also important for people to recognize that many of our holidays are often collectively bargained in in labor agreements so it's not just um thinking about how it impacts the community but we are also an employer of 600 people and those are sometimes negotiated as well
all that said next year's calendar includes the break as the first week of April it begins on Friday March 29th with Good Friday we will come back and this is what we're going to be trying to explain to people we will come back to an early release day on the Monday back because Rochester is a prime viewing location for the total eclipse many districts will not have school at all we are opting for an early release day because on Wednesday of that week we are going to be taking offer Eid al-fatir tentatively the notion of taking a day off is not tentative excuse me which day we take off is tenant because as we learned last year the day is not determined for sure until a particular time of year when the lunar cycle is
clear and we are still working with the Islamic community to better understand when we will be able to inform people of that but to the best of everybody's knowledge at the moment that is on Wednesday April 10th of 2024. so um this is a long way around saying we have an early release day on the Monday after the break we'll have school on Tuesday and tentatively right now we'd have off on that Wednesday and we just want to make sure people are aware of that it's also a different calendar at the end of the year because the regions week by the state extends further into June and so we'll be able to have a little bit of latitude and perhaps end school earlier if all the days aren't used as well so that's where it
lands right now questions from the board regarding the calendar I know we've had a chance to look at it we've had a couple different discussions about it are you proving that tonight yes okay motion to approve the calendar as presented for 2023-2024. moved by Julie second seconded by Esther all those in favor okay reports first under item or a gen item 10 letter A has the financial reports you've all had the chance to review those a couple of different things noted in there including a corrective action plan and a student activity report any questions on those financial reports no those are up for approval so I'll ask for a motion to approve still moved moved by Karen second seconded by Sue all those in favor um Eliza is not able to be with us tonight
but um Christina is also a student so she's going to write in as a student I will read this but not in the first person so many of the high schoolers went on Exchange trips like Dr Hall mentioned to Spain and Germany and it also hosted exchange students from France and so um Eliza heard that it was fantastic and everybody had a great time the gender and sexuality Alliance Club was on break but their back and even better than before and on March 2nd after school they will have their Revival meeting with Miss Wiggins serving as the advisor yesterday after school climate Club met and we discussed great projects for the spring They promoted the enroads climates a simulator a tool created by Ventana systems and the MIT Sloan sustainability initiative that enables users to
investigate the effects of almost 30 environmental laws um coach times conducted the JV Varsity Spring Track preseason meeting today after school the season will begin on the 20th and those who wish to register must do so through the BC SD Athletics page at sectionals held at Bristol Mountain two weeks ago the girls Nordic skiing team finished in second place and competitors Amelia Jordan and Lucia sampler have gone to States before the break the executive student council hosted a winter formal that was a huge success and attracted over 200 students they also held a winter pep rally we saw photos of that that was incorporated into the school calendar during which time the sports teams ran in cheerleaders performed musical chairs was played knockout was played and the senior class Council organized a pie in the
face game where none other than Dr Hall Miss Mosher Dr McGowan and other faculty members got pies in their face and the class of 2024 is holding a Dairy Queen fundraiser today from six to eight all proceeds will Aid prom and of course on March 9th the senior class council is hosting a district faculty dodgeball tournament I'm hopefully we will all be there thank you for standing in for Eliza greatly appreciate it and thank you to Eliza um Board of Education I'm going to suggest that we work through this expeditiously we obvious you want to be ready for the community Forum I'll quickly say for Labor Relations the session was Crisis Management on February 15th interesting discussion how different school districts handle situations with our next meeting is on March 22nd information Exchange that's pretty
expeditious legislative we meet tomorrow also Expeditions yeah I'll quickly say because I want to acknowledge Mark o'connovic we're grateful for his time serving both he's just quickly that BOCES is going through a number of their budget reviews and also looking at some standards-based grading and Reporting being implemented this year at Morgan Middle School which is a BOCES least School in East Rochester that's on a 6-1-1 sort of basis so anxious to see what comes out of that they also have approved their calendar thank you as always Mark um I'm going to start with Eleanor just in case anybody has any other board member reports and we'll work this way down the table I have nothing new to report okay thank you into your report great all my committees meet in the next two weeks to
report since Peter is here I will just say that Saturday isn't here obviously Saturday is Festival of ideas and I think there are almost 700 students who are registered and you and I will be there too Shepherd the crowd in and we're looking forward to a really fun day legendary event yes Christina all set I want to acknowledge quickly uh Julene and the team that did Say Yes to the Dress it was a featured on one of our news channels I forget which one but as always quickly the numbers over about 175 gowns and jackets and tuxedos and probably an equal number of shoes jewelry shirts handbags stuff it was great but can I just say really quickly and I know we're rushing a moment for me um was I looked up and there was
a young student in a wheelchair zipping up the ramp independently exiting the auditorium after having been shopping on the stage and I thought you really did a great job here so that that struck me probably nobody else in the room but that struck me since we've been so involved with that so thank you again for all the planning that went into that because the spaces that consistent we'll make sure to pass that along to the buildings team um a bunch of stuff going on in construction I say it every time our buildings folks are absolutely amazing and doing a great job with all the different things that's going to happen Nicole BTA I will be expeditious the word of the moment um thank you for letting me present um I'm trying to do a better
intro for you go online and look at Nicole's report she has the best pictures she just want to flag that they're very happy pictures um at counteract we're lucky enough to have I don't know who's a geologist come and present to you all second grade classrooms about how you can learn how to read a rock so he talks about the scientific process what's great is that at the end of the year all the second graders go to a field trip at Mendon Ponds and Mr Lucero will lead part of that so it's wonderful and you can see photographs of some students looking at rafts students from my class actually were in Miss Davis's music class and we have a parent who is a musician for the RPO and the Buffalo Philharmonic and she came in
that the students have been learning about Peter and the Wolf and all the different parts of the music so she came in with a violin a small student violin and had them all try it out so that was a real treat and you can see some awesome photographs of that at French Road third grade students are learning ESS students sorry or learning about space in the solar system they work together to figure out the circumference of each planet just using the information that they already had on size so you can see that there's some photographs of students working together to do that and then fourth grade ESS student for working on a time travel unit and the physics that you needed in order to do that they had a simulation time travel machine which they
each got to take a trip in for free and then they also designed their own time travel machines and explained their thinking which is pretty impressive um I like the home safe piece Mrs Willis's fourth grade class worked on a book to about all the different explorers that were important to New York State they used the new maker space treatment for us to create a face of each of the explorers and then they use chatter picks and Book Creator to make a digital book recorded themselves speaking through the face of the Explorer of the face that they actually created of the Explorer with their research and then actually included a photo of the Explorer so I got some great work in the maker space there Mrs Anderson Mrs Cole and Mrs Isham presented a singing
and strings concert with fourth grade course fifth grade course chamber orchestra to a very large and enthusiastic audience and then fourth grade band had their first performance on February 14th 120 students played the beginning Greatest Hits Hot Cross Buns shark and hard rock Blues it was a real celebration of their very first time playing all together Ashley Rhodes fourth grade class went into the maker space and learned how to program Sphero robots they were able to make the move and shake and make noises they had a lot of fun but they were using some really tremendous skills if you were able to click the link Mrs Harps technology classes learned how potential energy transforms into kinetic energy by building their own roller coasters and then you see some of those fourth grade students getting ready
for their concert at TCMS they hosted solo Fest again it went great and the student helpers were really amazing for everyone who came from the county super proud of all that the kids did and all the kids who took the time to audition whether or not they were chosen to participate they were students in the classes of Beth Crips Claire de Felice Kendra Lam Leah Kettle camp and Jenny mole Mrs uh stedman's already talked about this with Mr Thomas coming presenting to Maria conseso's class I should never do that one um and then they also had the Brighton Memorial Library librarian come and read to them also about Chinese New Year and then the next two pages I think are those last Almost last two pages are the students 25 kids from 7th and 8th
grade were selected for junior high solo Fest and there's an awesome list of names and 18 sixth graders were selected for the elementary festival and then last 8th grade Orchestra students have been working on a composition unit so they wrote their own four bar chord progression and they're going to write anthems to align with the Civil Rights Movement the study of Music impressive it is always the pictures are just outstanding thank for taking the time to time to do all the other teams of teaching um PTSA Peter's not here oh it's online thank you very much Kim so they'll be online we'll be able to review that Dr McGowan anything nothing at all right couple things here to do first approval of second read policies I'll quickly say what they are 1510 regular board meeting
