and uh guests of the board we have the Spanish club and Science Club trip presentation referred to your packets or computer systems now it's this is the slides okay so um I'm Ali Walker I'm a 12th grade for those that are at home and yeah but now you're like I guess you're just talking again please thank you all right um so we got the [Music] grand um it was unique because we got to travel from pretty much the whole island we traveled each day to a different location and so we got to see a lot more than um what would you what you would expect a vacation would be um and it was also special because we got to travel with somebody who was from there this is from Madera so um she got to
help us experience it in a way that you would you started out and on the capitol San Juan and kind of just moved all throughout went to the rainforest and all your things and um it was really cool especially because like there's a lot of things that are like environmentally that's like not something you never see here like the bioluminescence was really interesting I thought it was really cool because especially because when you go to look at this kind of trip it's not like a family vacation where like you know everybody's like meeting new people and everything to go through and it's really new too because it's like you might it might be an American territory if I let go the culture is very different they're all very very different um like I don't travel
much personally like I've been to Florida for like in Puerto Rico it's so much different than it is here and being able to travel it with era where she knows it all she knows the history of it and she's just so excited to tell us all about it it was really just formative and it was awesome experience that I get like I was fortunate enough for three o'clock and I am very grateful for that in school like bragging or to my parents or whatever I really really liked it yeah and um to go off with what Lorenzo said it was uh it was cool because I expected to go and be focusing on like seeing the different culture there but it was almost if not just as much exciting to like get close with uh
people who we went on a trip with because these two people I wouldn't have necessarily like started up a conversation with in the hallway but now that we went on the trip we got to be close to each other and um get to know more about each other and I think if you ask anybody who went on a trip they'll tell you that the people who were on the trip were like best friends like I don't think there's a time I pass anybody in the hallway that we're not sure without saying hi and like Bella said I also brag about a lot of the friends who didn't go um I'm always talking about it they're like can you stop by now Puerto Rico like we were there and we also had our tour guide his
name was estacio and he if you ask anybody who was the like the thing that you would remember the most it's going to be estacio when we got off the bus at the airport to go home he um sang to us and I mean I'm an emotional person so it's not very surprising but I was bawling on the bus I didn't want to leave and um the people I met and like just how they treated us was just and it's like you can't describe it and I think that's something that we all carried home like just how to be a kind of human and to treat everybody with more respect then here so um it was just very special and to make a connection with estacio I know that Rome talks to him very often
and um to just like the guys would like walk around and just high-five him who are like just like start up funny conversations with him and I I think that made it very special because like fella said we got to know people from Puerto Rico and how they treat people be a part of the culture like that um and I think one of the coolest opportunities we got to experience was the picture of us at Burlington High School um it was very very it's different our bad school is different from our school and just size but the people there were so close with each other that it just felt and they made us feel so welcome that we just like we literally got there and we all started dancing together like they played music I
forget his name but he he the girl the woman the woman and the man were playing the drums and she was dancing with her big skirt it was so much fun and one of the Leah's brother he like went and Tyler he went to like his dance battle with one of them and it was so amazing how they were so accepting of us and I just I can never forget the amount of like confidence I felt there and just I carried that move with me as well it was um also really cool because when we got there we were met with the dancing which made us feel comfortable right off the bat like Bella said but then we went into a classmate classroom and they um had made like proclamations for us so one of
them was um that just Rome and her dedication to teaching and continuing to teach about the culture not only like where she was from but now she's here doing it and um like if you're sitting in her classroom I do every day how special Puerto Rico is and I think it's just really cool that we got to experience that with her and then we got another Proclamation for the school as a whole that um they gave us just kind of from them in the community there just highlighting us and like Thanking us for coming and wanting to be a part of it so that was cool they also all spelled Flawless image I was very surprised by that I feel like when I went there I was expecting to try to speak my terrible Spanish
with them but they all had very good englishes yeah because like everything there is in like in Spanish so they actually dreamed in English [Music] yeah I think if I had to pick a highlight it would be definitely meeting with people and feeling just their kindness and love that they like just exert I feel like I feel like that's not what you get here unfortunately I feel like it's very cold so being there where everybody was we went on a ziplining Excursion and they made nicknames for us and it was like 10 minutes in so that was really special so I think that's something how people treated us I definitely carried that home it was definitely a very welcoming experience I think most of us carried that back here [Music] in the fall is because
it's something we have in common ships and to bring the kindness that they gave to us back it's also cool sorry in the point I actually um I talked to one of the girls we met at the school like daily we have conversations um she's also in her senior year so it's been really really cool and special to ask her like well what what are you doing we just had our homecoming week and it was really special for me because it's the last one and she'll say yeah we just did this they have this huge parade for seniors which I was a little Josh but it's been really cool to like talk to her and like keep that going and now I know that if I ever travel back to Puerto Rico I have a
friend and if she comes here she has a friend and so I think that's really special discussion overall it's just a great show everybody I want to thank you for letting us go questions three questions quickly pistachio I'm trying to picture because uh like uh yeah okay he's a great dancer technically every weather you were there for how long before the weather cooperatives gorgeous it was pretty much perfect the whole time when we were at the start of school it we were under the thing they had and it started pouring and that was like the only time the weather was bad but it was kind of cool it's good directions a couple of the kids got went to the same shop he got that hat from and bought the guy like fits him to your
head it's really cool thank you it was like really nice that they would shut they like looked out to his classroom [Music] thank you very much thank you again portion of the agenda is for district residents District staff and or parents and guardians of students word however the board members will not respond this is a time for the board to listen and when a response will be provided to the speaker individuals who wish to speak must sign in state their name and address prior to speaking and limit their comments to three minutes comments or questions naming specific Personnel or students best privately to protect the rights of the individuals prepare to conduct themselves in a civil manner violence statements advocating racial religious or other ones not be tolerated Bundy willigans I first want to take
a moment to thank the board for carefully considering and making final decision to keep with all the comments section unhennard on the sun's a very important message to parents in the community did elected to represent that you appreciate the dialogue and feedback so that's something that we wanted to give you positive feedback parents were very happy to see everything you have to deal with it the other issue I want to talk to tonight is about the social emotional learning surveys are being conducted at the high school I had no communication prior to a recent email that I read about the transcripts we get into daily um announcements for the kids the Counseling Center was kind enough to give me some general information about the deaths of surveys including a link to the aperture of the
company that we that problem this company advertises with full line with the castle which is a collaborative academic social emotional learning program since curriculums have been a cause for concern because of their focus on critical race Theory and gender identity the samples of questions can really show that the survey has little to do with academic Excellence when you're measuring social awareness personal responsibility whether a child looks forward to class I see all times to use innocuous language to concealer Shifting the generation of children to view America and to embrace through the race viewpoint programs are psychologically manipulative framework the first stage of a child understanding their own race and how I've done it has been into hierarchy across there's no press under self-awareness and self-management the next stage is responsibility and decision making is confidence
he requires to make children make decisions based upon their personal role that they claim the systematic racism the last stage is the label of this relationship and social awareness for their influence to a doctoral radical ideology and work to Advocate work within their community no worries or mentioned anything about academic Excellence for men and reading education has changed the SEO the school culture policies that parents can't completely avoid now however parents need to be notified of surveys before they're rolled out with complete transparency of what information is being collected and we'll be using it include the security of that information as well as for what purpose there should be an option to opt out as clear understanding of whether it's optional or not and this wasn't communicated from what I read kind of treated the
same as permission is given for internet access importance of communication concerning events of the last few years cannot be emphasized enough parent involvement is the most significant factor of the success of a child parents out of the conversation hope that the board will be educated on what these programs are bringing into our schools I thank you for your attention and I thank you for your service and thank you altered and Mrs Meyer all right we began uh the year really focusing and our we align our building goals compact committee we also attach it to uh bill so our ends and the other stuff all kinds it molds into some things uh the compact committee really what we've reviewed this year is we're working on the process of moving testing next school year but our teachers
feel very strong for it because they're not in that testing environment so we went over that process Michelle did a very nice job kind of kind of rolling that I don't know if you wanted to speak to that a little bit just about what we're doing with the computer-based testing sure over the next um year we're going to end summer we're going to be moving our uh assessments or benchmark assessments for grades two three four and five to online we have a platform called the doctorina that we already use now it houses some of our assessment but not most of them so we're going to be working with those grade levels to get those uploaded so our students can really experience online testing prior to the state exam so that's our big lift this year
it will be in what we're using that as a parent group to kind of share with them what we're doing so they can kind of springboard the other one of our goals that we've also been a cut we've accomplished is kind of reviewing state test results with the compact team so we went over that and we did that in this fast board meeting so I don't have to go over that the other piece is really moving to the science standards the new science assessments and the inquiries fifth grade is going to have a new science exam and we're going to be preparing for that I will be bringing various things to the board even this year one of them we are looking at fifth grade and seeing if we want it departmentalized so I'll bring
that up it's just that right now it's an idea we have had it over probably a handful of times in my time here which is never really materialized we do believe that that might be a way of having the kids participate in these inquiries and prepare kids in a more systematic way so someone actually just teaching science all year to the fifth grade students and I think it would be helpful but we're in the process of investigating that with our team but we are going to be informing our compact committee on how that goes as well and a reminder to why we're doing that is because the science exam is now moving from grade four to grade five so this year is kind of of our off to head off here and next year we'll
be starting in grade five science so departmentalizing my health Focus and really make sure we get through the content we're just we're not there you will bring it to the board I mean we are working with the fifth grade team I just bring it up as a conversation piece but everyone on The Campaign Committee I think agrees that transition moving into Middle School like going to getting departmentalized I think that kids could like that especially the way kids are growing and developing nowaday I think they would agree would like to go to three different construction and would prepare them well I think for the Middle School the other pieces that we will be working on in the future is really just how we're re-engaging our students our teachers been doing a fabulous job coming out
of a transitioning quote from the pandemic they did a wonderful job engaging kids in the during that time period now as we're getting back to in-person instruction kind of re-engaging kids and doing what we know Works along with what we've learned during the pandemic has been a powerful goal in the elementary school we've been working with teachers and grade levels have been working on strategies together uh the other thing that we will be working on is selecting assemblies it's actually one of it's when we go to do that we usually have about four or five of them a year that business really got hit during the pandemic and a lot of our performers are no longer even doing it as you go around they aren't performing I don't think they receive funding for three or
four years in a business that doesn't do that does it well so we are going back we have a couple assemblies that we're going to bring in and we'll have to contact committee uh do that and then the famous annually view of the code of conduct which is everyone's so excited about and we're going to hold off that to the end of the year so any questions on the goals for the Elementary contact all right thank you good evening the middle school high school compact committee has really been spending time talking about parent engagement and so we started off our very first meeting looking at a new system that we have designed with the help of our school library systems that we call Champions 41. champions 41 is a system that allows our teachers to
actually um go into the system and request students that they need to see so when they go into the system and request students that they need to see automatically the system that evening around seven o'clock will send an email to the parent letting the parent know that their child is being pulled for some form of intervention and who the teacher is says calling them so across our platforms right now we're trying to make sure that when we're talking about parent engagement that we're engaging parents in the information that they want in the easiest way for them to get it so our Focus being academic achievement but making sure that parents are part of the conversation we started there the champions 41. this last time we were all together we were talking about the way in
which we communicate with parents in terms of that form of Engagement as a school I know that we send out a ton of information and we send it out in all kinds of different ways so as a contact committee we started doing what in education we would refer to as like a task analysis starting with the very basics of what do I need to know how will I know it and where could I find that information and really beginning the process with parents around if you were brand new to our district you know how would you know how to navigate us have we done a good job sort of building our systems from front to end where regardless who you are or if you have friends here how long you've been part of this community
that you can find the information that you need so our goal this year is going to be identifying really what that information is and then how to best lay that out for parents for them so we really like the idea of a One-Stop shop so I think what you're going to find coming out of the middle high school committee is a way in which we build off of our website that would allow parents the ability to get in there find what they're looking for one of the things they are really pressing is the ability to fill out almost anything that we're asking of them on our website and hit submit I don't want to print anymore so we're just talking a lot about the streamlining of that form of communication how do we do that
and in particularly what is the information that you want at your fingertips so that we organize ourselves well for both families questions thank you yes I've provided you 12 different guidelines for the board to consider draft form you are actually several new ones from past years just in plan for equipment yeah that hey you're three or so as we develop our budgets you can see anticipate expenditures we're not talking about 100 items we're talking about tens of thousands nice discussion or throughout the week let me know I can make sure comments right now from anybody old business item one presentation of banner proposal yes I'll have Mr Reed and Dr Chanel present with respect to impact the board gave at your last meeting in your board packet and your backup notes I've given you I
was seeing actually Dr Schnell I think we should just start with saying that when we originally had the conversation about being a replacement I just want to remind you all why we're even talking about Banner replacement we do have a we have a team that has won uh Elite championship and a sectional player and because we cannot get the same Banner the same boat material we have not yet been able to hang those on our wall so that needs to be a priority for us so um I would like to read talk just a little bit about the process he's reached out to some vendors you can just share a little bit about that then we'll run through some samples I reached out to three different vendors and requested a couple different sizes because again
not knowing if the board would want to maintain the 5x7 or 406 potentially so smaller we're going to add the plan would be to add banners so as you see them hanging across the one side of the gym would not be exactly the same if you can't fit anymore in that system so again if you wanted to keep it there for my sixth so we got multiple quotes and talked to the vendors and talk to some colleagues that have used the different vendors and made the decision based on the cost and the service to work with specialties a CEO of the family and he came out and we didn't really want to waste all three vendors times we hadn't picked them out and look at our site look at what we had to offer in
terms of space on the wall and then work through us work with us through some recommendations about what we wanted to do and ultimately we decided to save the 5x7 size and you know work with Vic figure out exactly the place of attractive energy yeah so we talked originally I showed you all some examples about banners and other schools kind of how they look and I feel like collectively we decided that we were going to stick with a very classic look that is representative of Caledonia Montford so what you're looking at here is an actual mock-up where the only thing different about this Banner would be the material that it's printed on so this would be vinyl if you were going to go into the high school gym you would see along the right hand
side of the gym if you were sitting in the bleachers that we have vinyl banners that are hanging there for all of the school districts that we compete against so you'll want to Picture This similar instead of them hanging like from a bar they will actually be affixed to the wall and out of vinyl this is what it would look like if we didn't change anything other than the medium that we were printing on okay Michelle so uh color wide honestly board this doesn't look fantastic but right now in terms of our logo we are as a school we have we have accepted three colors that we really that we talk about we've got our our maroon our white and then when we need the third color we usually go with the gray so you're
going to see in some of these mock-ups the the gray that is here for this one um basically what you're going to see as you flip through these is we tried to show you almost always football the reason being it's the most full Banner that we have hanging in the gym right now but we want to make sure that when we're doing this design that we're designing in a way that takes care of all of our teams and still is really aesthetically pleasing so this one is the first example with a modern a watermark running behind it you can faintly see the CM but it certainly if you advance again Michelle you'll see how that Watermark behind sort of helps the banner still be aesthetically pleasing even if you know just in terms of not
wanting to take away from the winds and making some look full and others look empty like we didn't like the way that looked so we started adding watermarks uh each of these now that you're going to begin to see is just some play on Vic doing some work for us and just looking at how could we add our logos to this what would it look like if we added the third color what about the lines in here should we Center some of this so you'll just see as Michelle you can keep clipping the difference between when it's centered when it's left Justified and then he put the Raider in there which I felt like you guys just need to see it pops so very nicely the dimension on this is really great and that Watermark
as it's coming from behind go ahead Michelle so really initially we came to you with more policy so board policy is pretty outlined and what we are allowed to do with the banner so if you go ahead and flip to the next slide Michelle really what we're coming back tonight and just talking to you about showing you some mock-ups just to give you an idea of why we would even ask for the change we'd love to get permission to add that third color so we get some dimension in the banners we'd like to be able to use our logos whether we put the Raider in there or we're using the CM or a mix of the two that is that would currently be outside of that policy and the policy also requires that things be
centered and we would like the ability to look at some of these mock-ups with rockets Justified okay sure so again the Banners are pretty much a mess if you go in there over time they've centered some of the numbers for League championships they've won the way to the left way to the right like right now I have not yet added the golf league sectional from next year and I don't know where I'm going to put one of the years because it's blocked it's full so I'm gonna have to take the 22 actually we got 22 for the league to go like way to the left over here I got lines especially that's going to get everything over here the 21 and then 22 of course we win this year 23. and then it's going to
be all over the place so yeah so so again it really is it's it's the cheerleading Banner that we need to add to recognize their leading sexual championships it's fixing the justification left right it's all over the place the Banners are 190 bucks each regardless of what we do so you can go play Maroon it's 109 bucks you can put a watermark in doesn't matter it's five dollars to update the banners when you win you're going to be putting a number on there you're not getting a re-print so in talking with Vic good salesman obviously well a lot of schools just you know buy they buy your banners all the time when they win new titles they're like well we're not just doing sectionals I can see maybe if you're doing sectionals that would be
a possibility because you might not buy a banner in some years or managing are they usually by a couple but in recognizing League championships we do win League Championship see so we just talked about what would a middle ground B and maybe you have numbers put on for three to four years update that'd be five bucks and then you start to look at getting a new Banner printed with those three to four years and then kind of like you look at like with uniforms having a replacement every three to four years you're looking at teams that are constantly winning leagues or sections potentially just to keep it nice to clean look you wouldn't have to you could go with the numbers but if you go in the gym now and you look and see what
it looks like when add numbers out of that and Michael's one of the carriers have been trying to find the right numbers to iron on there and you can never find them especially as we go I mean literally nothing is in there so it gets a little bit messy so this will give us a plan to have a nice product up there we have a low-cost Edition and then looking at our closer plans um [Music] yes the policy is very specific about what the banners can look like so we we really can't do other than that very first if you go back to the very first slide Michelle that is that one matches four cups no it could be a revision in your own required one when you were ready to make that information yes
would that be something you'll be looking to finish it you know through 23 24 years to take account for winter and fall season with the purchase for September or would you be looking to purchase for spring no I would I would probably ask dick to see what the cost would be I get the impression it's not like a uniform where you need to buy a minimum so it might be where we know what the fall is you might know what the winner is and then we might just order the spring and then have a full set ready to go if not then we can talk I mean I can look and see I think golf's got a good chance so anybody tell us to wait a little bit doesn't make sure it doesn't make sense
although they could be the person we had for five bucks on it and then you can do either way and I just I would work with work with Vic work with the vendor to it actually would make sense because we don't have any indoor spring Seasons anyway we had asked them a couple times because as you guys know maroon is really challenging so if you're gonna print like I was nervous like do we have to print every Banner we could ever need to do it right now so that the color is the same room straight across the board and he assured us that it didn't matter we printed every single one at the same time or he printed one you know two years from now because he's putting the color into his printer that we
would give the color that he prints so are you using the waterproof yes so these when he did these mock-ups for us that's one thing that superintendent malasani asked me a couple of times like every time he's sending us something it's a little bit of a different variation yes and they sum are more purple some are more red so yeah [Music] it's called the Raider maroon but it's Texas A M or yeah he has all of our numbers but I I know that sometimes oh I think it needs this or that needs to move I don't like the color of that we might have reach out to him in a matter of like 15 minutes he might send us a new mock-up so I feel like each one depending on sort of where he was
because he was sitting at a computer or he was on his cell phone he was just sort of meeting our need um but we definitely wanted you to see all of the mockups just to get an idea of why we're asking for a revision we would be pretty it would look exactly like it's always looked which is is not a bad thing but we would like the flexibility to spice it up a little bit oh does anybody have any questions about this masks [Music] yeah we do now is just get them get the staff to get up there and get the van about and then minus the iron I don't think directly methods yeah I think these ones will come as like white Vine stickers that will just like stick to the vinyl where when
he prints them they won't be stickers like the 2022 wouldn't be a sticker it would actually not have the maroon and it'd be that white space [Music] yes [Music] it would be uh yeah actually it was hard because the super size 17. So currently have to be currently have 15 we would have to in my recommendation would be to as we discussed it would be to obviously add false here which we somehow have to worry probably I don't think we want to say all chair game nature because that's where we've gone to might just keep it as faultier because it came to everyone away you'd have to have oh that actually we wouldn't make that game because they have one so it would be winner cheer so we'd be adding that one we'd be splitting
um cross country because they actually compete boys and girls we have one Banner just put that and then assisted 15 to add to it for now and then as that's what we talked about we're gonna buy a banner that has no years on it we said no not as long as he's can assure us that quality control he can print up so it's not a mismatch team did win one well yeah cheerleader winner cheerleading no and other teams that would not be represented on the wall boys and girls indoor track and they don't even compete at a county level they only compete frankly our you have indoor track when you have fall shooting so you have bad luck I have it as long as you can like the dip the only caveat would be if
you make the final decision if you go you know get right down and we'll get them we'll push them and say look this is what you told us we're not going to order these because you're assuring us that when you produce them I'm just thinking 10 15 years down the road it's been even around good question so um so again hopefully if it gets to that point we can talk to Vic about getting the getting the graphic or getting the contract getting getting the mix when you're going out right well it's too bad so we can take that to a different area I mean they're all pretty universe going through the stuff with ordering so you might ask this questions in January meeting to have that discussion or provide some guidance all right for the
discussion if you want to provide those three flexibilities certainly I would bring the revised policy report consider going through our policy committee Community to January and our discussion wishes there's no rush right so no I think we're looking for late spring purchase [Music] reviews shy away from what we're doing only today but it's being inclusive when we're playing all right [Music] I am concerned with the 17 banners that we have just the state that it will affect the static equation yeah you'll see like as we get closer what will happen is you'll end up we'll all end up at some point administratively and the people that I like the Vicky McArdle like in the gym looking at how we're putting those on the walls like the back wall right now where the banners hang there
are some areas that are similar to here where you have like vents in the walls like it is going to have to be laid out in a way that we all agree is pleasing and maybe in some of the white space that's left like how might we use some of our slogans like home of Champions things that we might place there to fill some of the white space to make sure that it is pleasing you didn't have to change the size or change the orientation anybody brought up that you would need to to fit we asked that object when he was standing with us in the gymnasium he feels that there is definitely room there so what we would need to do is just be thoughtful about how we're going to organize that right so
maybe starting from the left and going to the right we might think about our ball source and about putting up maybe in alphabetical order moving into that our winter sports and then into our spring Sports so however it is organized across the back wall we've created a way in which you can read that even as our company and make sense of like why something is in the order that it's in but he commented like he counted the blocks the cinder blocks and kind of looked at those walls he says we're not going to have any issue getting it there but like I said you might have these spots where you have something you can't roll over top of so you might fill that in by actually putting you know the Raider in there or some
some language I'm proud of our past excited about our future like the things we decide would take that wall to the next level [Music] if you go too small it might be harder to see so the smaller ones that they produce the four by sixes they usually look individual accomplishments tools that honor those like so as long as we're going through the revision like you said it's very prescriptive um I don't know if the size Matters might buy something as much as that all Banners are the same size is there any other either from the school board or from either of you any other change into this like I have to consider would that restricts through pillars it was not a sports banner I don't know let's fall under this problem we have those team
banners out those don't fall under that guy you could get other stuff that doesn't recognize you commonly section but if you if you said each Banner will be similar size if you get up to adding 19 to 20 banners or something that's for using into a track win something or at least get flexibility to make that decision you know to help that situation let's take that's the best part about Lionel too right you can always take anything that you put in there as a filler down creating space I think the only other thing that I don't that's not in this policy that we we haven't brought up is we do have a football Banner that's currently hanging with all of the state championships in it it is our only sport right now with state championships
like that um we don't normally like even in this board policy it doesn't speak to state championships just that we're going to display County and sectional championships so if you're looking at it I don't know if you want to ask something that officially allows us to keep that banner up there and we definitely have it in a scene there foreign we intend to update that one as well but that's not that's not governed here it probably should be all see so at some point because I have the old banners in my office they had individual banners for each of the years it's probably where the sizing came in because they were those are different size they're not the same and so then at some point they went to a 5x7 manner so I don't know
the history exactly of it but I do know that because I had painters in my office and we're going back out of size I got 4x6 banners in my office and then I looked at it I'm like oh that's State football 2013. are there any other state championships outside we've had finalists okay I don't know because we got a lot of the sports didn't play them right they stopped at the section no the only one the boys the one year the like 77 went to like Regional like yeah the final four on baseball for soccer but finalists [Music] so it sounds like you guys are on top of that I mean that's what that would be yeah that would yeah I didn't I didn't ask it but the policies foreign [Music] thank you thank you
thank you all business I have second reading of board policies resolved at the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent approved the following board policies number 3421 Title IX and sex discrimination policy number 5633 gender neutral single occupancy bathrooms policy number 7450 student voter registration and pre-registration a motion please second discussion again as I share with you to backup notes remember these are all required all in favor say aye aye any opposed say nay motion carries unanimously business approval of tax collectors report resolved that the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent approved the 2022-2023 tax collector's report motion please second discussion okay um any any other discussion all in favor say aye aye any opposed say nay new business number two participation in athletics report yes we just provided you
the report uh Mr Reed if you wanted to speak to that welcome to but this is a amen and I'll compile all three seasons spring so this is just the start of it this is the beginning of the population of data so you can see code violation zero participation passes this is our when kids come into school late for no real reason the car wouldn't start whatever they're in by 9 15. so in the fall we had 12 passes used by 11 players we need somebody to use one twice that opportunity twice uh-huh don't pass the participation link real quick and come back to it you heard a small sign talk about the scholar athlete honors and then individual honors and I can answer questions about that if you have any dual participation we had
two athletes in the fall attempt dual participation one soccer primary and their secondary was game day cheerleading one cross-country primary and secondary years volleyball both of those students also achieved Scout athlete status High achieving student in the classroom and then Playing Fields participation yes yeah both yeah both completed yes two times um and with the fall participation report the percentages are down in participation a little bit um you know I think we're still coming out of covet and kids have had other opportunities where they kind of get out of the habit of coming to a practice or joining a team and they kind of stay home a little bit soccers both soccer did not have GVS this year we've done that in the past with boys but not necessarily girls so they went to Varsity
my day and we did have football and volleyball numbers are actually good they've actually had to cut a five-hole level Warriors talk about us cross country numbers coach something was in his first season and we've talked about some ideas too any questions thank you business number three Flex Plan Amendment resolved that the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent amend amend the district flexible benefit plan as listed ocean please in a second naked discussion all in favor say aye aye any opposed say nay carries new business number four approval of softball out of state trip resolved that the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent approved the request for the softball team to participate in an overnight out of state field trip to Myrtle Beach South Carolina from April 1st 2023
through April 8 2023 per the regulations set forth by board policy number 8460 field trips cause for the chaperones will be passed on to the price of the student fee motion please in a second any discussion and again I just want to stress to the board this is a different field trip that we're accustomed to um parents and Guardians Myrtle Beach as well as once they're in Myrtle Beach parents and Guardians will be transporting them to and from the contest is different than the past we've worked with our school attorneys and our insurance company to make sure the permission slip is compliant so I imagine we may see something very similar with the boys baseball trip that we may receive here shortly but just want to make sure the board's aware of that out of
curiosity how much did that save each athlete yes and but I can tell you this when we looked at uh Contracting so having a charter bus it went from nine or ten thousand to nearly twenty thousand dollars uh with the expenses and same thing that obviously plane tickets are double or triple to what they were just over a couple years ago so essentially cut the cost of this trip in half for the students I would say so and right now we've had tremendous support for parents or Guardians attending the trip they're already going down there typically they're driving especially with Myrtle Beach where Florida was a little different they were flying I think it's gonna be a cost saving for the families as well no not at this time no everybody and again if a
parent is unable to attend because of their work schedule and so forth they in turn can give another parent permission for for whoever an Anna or uncle or another player's parents to transport their kids all through written permission so but anybody in a particular bind all in favor say aye aye any opposed say nay that motion carries number five approval of peer tutor wage resolved at the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent approved the request of peer tutoring at minimum wage for the 2022-2023 school year ocean please and a second and we have some more information on that yeah Dr Chanel uh can you share is this the new program things that you shared with me this morning about the cost and how could you go to the mic please we had
some very good questions that were posed by one of our board members I probably should have shared some additional information I want to make sure everybody has So currently in our programs we do run a program called school work and so we do pay student workers to do different things for us here in the district like working in our offices working in the transportation department working for facilities a lot of times those positions that they're working they're they're gaining skill but um they're definitely doing a service for us we're looking now into our students so the tutoring program will run out of our libraries so students who intend to go off to college will find that when you get there you actually have to advocate for yourself and you are experiencing academic struggle and typically
that either happens at the college level in some sort of students on that one other Liza said yeah I'm throwing them back yeah we're working on statistics um so just thinking about engaging families we have kids that might be struggling academically and parents that can't necessarily welcome statistics so how do we do that here our teachers I mentioned to you Champions 41 and so what I will tell you is that during home-based across 36-12 teachers or pulling students is smaller and they are reteaching and helping them catch up academically they need another layer of intervention and when we get to that like within our schedule we've been trying to brainstorm what that next level of intervention will look like so this is one of the one tutoring is going to allow students to sign up
for tutoring Services whether it be during home-based because it works for them or maybe let's say you're a seventh grader you have a learning lab box too and it's just what happens if you have a high school that will be able to leave that study hall and tutor in the library during that time [Music] AP classes at the high school we are going to offer tutoring sessions after school again and in the library and always supervise prior libraries so our students will not be meeting outside of the supervision of an adult [Music] a week um [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] uh we are probably going to come in right around Me Maybe seven thousand hours this year so yeah so the addition the addition of tutors probably still a little dates for our normal budget we
will monitor that response as to whether or not it's giving us the benefit that we're hoping for if it does work and apparently like I have students to work um School of the word student but it works with me where kids are I would say that here is [Music] going into college that is a great thing for them as well yes how it was pretty lengthy lessons [Music] you know like how you know what I mean like yeah I think it's really going to be around when they're available so even though you see that really long list in that really long list all kids are not available at the same time I'll go back to like an example of let's say that we have a the sixth grade team says any support with writing an
English essay and they have a learning lab in um right I would really just be looking forward that would be available so I think you'll start to narrow the list just based on the availability some of our tutors are student athletes that are not going to be available after school they'll be available during the study hall or during a home base so it will literally be the Strategic match yeah just watching that paying attention Sue doesn't get picked every time when there's four other people absolutely because even when they come in there's a lot of electronic things that they do because program everybody [Music] prime minister of out with a couple things there's a roof study session is we talk about um Miss Barbara and I being able to look at a schedule or a
calendar or teachers Barber when their next test is coming [Music] service that is others with this so we in the past have been able to connect this from the high school to the middle school and especially like our counselors would do that for on their own volunteer and then during the walk too I think what they designed is that you're always ask me in this if they are willing to do that if you're really going to develop a program that was a child that's in seventh grade that struggling in mathematics get that added level of support I don't think we want to leave it to do we have volunteer that will help us versus we are going to develop a program so that a mantra should be that as a parent you should know what
we have access to Hospital instead of I believe it is [Music] something we hope to create you are alone right now seeing our two your phones on social media or your parents or our community members location we are running two things right now one is a reindeer races has actually spent a ton of time not just collecting food this is what they're choosing to do as their solution to a problem [Music] they have been speaking to outside organizations that handle food insecurities trying to partner with them um other organizations um [Music] leadership powerful to get our kids not just thinking about doing community service but really understanding from specific leadership mindset how do you study a problem identify a problem and then put a solution in place and then measure whether or not the solution
made a difference another discussion about the future wage hey uh all in favor say aye aye any opposed say nay that motion is carried number six under new business minimum wage increase resolved that the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent re-establish the attached substitute rates due to minimum wage increases effective December 31st 2022 a motion please make it and a second discussion all in favor say aye aye any opposed say nay that motion carried number seven under new business approval of the Finger Lakes Area School Health Plan known as Flash resolved that the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent amend the flash Municipal Cooperative agreement whereas the Finger Lakes area school health plan was established pursuant to a municipal Cooperative agreement to provide health benefits which was last restated
