expectation one develop written procedures for granting changing and disabling rooms or access to the network including procedures to disable any unneeded accounts when they are no longer needed and to periodically review the monitor all Network user accounts for themselves um so pretty much um again if I get hit by a bus or whatever um the district I'll already have those policies procedures um I follow this um those district has the policies and procedures in place it's a matter of breaking them down um so I'm not here then somebody can follow those and know when to create a user account so we do have them again it's writing it down making that documentation Club foreign to develop and adopt comprehensive written I.T contingency plan and ensure it is distributed to all responsible parties periodically tested and
updated so the district works with our with the morgue the Madison United Regional information center um so I have heard of that boric um and we work with Oneida hardcore Madison BOCES which is where I'm out of um so the district works with those two Regional Partners um so if something happens our first phone call is to them um but the state Auditor's recommendation is to develop a incident response plan that the district has themselves um so we will be working with the Rick they are coming out with template next month that the district can work through and fill in and customize towards our districts so um while we do you know call up our regional Partners we will develop our own plan of action on what happens with that so um next month we'll
be working and they'll be releasing that as part of those out of the passion group audit recommendation three evaluate all enabled Network accounts disables any deemed unmuted and periodically we use all Network user accounts for themselves so we I currently audit um all of the accounts in the summer um so we reach out to BOCES do you think about any organization um that works with us and we ask them who's still on our account um so we do do that audit every single summer um but we will talk about more about the recommendation um because this will be solidified in one five and six in those recommendations um so we do analyze that every single summer um but for recommendation one five and six uh we will work more on that throughout on the school
year where we had um inconsistencies there recommendation five properly notified the administrator When contractors no longer need network access Insurance expiration dates are added to the system for temporary Network users who set for appointments or agreements that expire so um with classlink we can enter those in now so once the Board of Education approves an end date uh we can go in there and on their end date they will be disabled um what we did now was um I would be notified of that end date um and then I would know you know I need to shut this account that day that day then they've crossed that cross it off um but the fix of that is put that in classroom so when I know that hard ending that you guys as Board of Education
approve we'll put it in there and the system will automatically disable that account um if for some reason that account needs to be an open path Board of Education approval date um then Dr spring would sign off on that and that would be those rarest circumstances that we occur Once Upon like tracing yeah okay audit recommendation five again properly notified the administrator with contractors no longer need Networks um so what that revolves around is um again contractors um like capital projects and things like that um so during that annual review it would be up to me um to question a little bit more on these are the accounts we have opened do we need these anymore um and to shut those down um but also on the flip side of that when we create in
step one for the recommendation number one when we do that documentation to also include who notifies me on the I.T administrator of which accounts need to be closed down so if it is a capital project person this person would notify me and this is the procedure involved in that so just getting all of that on a piece of paper and this is how we follow that recommendation six ensure the VOC supervisor properly notifies them when OC staff no longer need Networks so this one was a bigger one um so we've enacted um so when we talk about the motion staff we're talking about special education rooms that contract within the district um and we're talking about um English as a second language services um so what we are going to do um because during that
annual review we would catch that um but when there's changes throughout the year um things like that um the district was not being notified properly um so district has to create that corrective action plan um our recommendation to what we'll be following um is that any employee that comes in through BOCES or leads through BOCES or direct supervisor at BOCES will fill out an official form with water gun if that form is not filled out then they will not have an account added or removed um it was one step behind shutting everybody's account off and then when we get approval add them all um so we will push that out I will create that Forum with um Dr spring and we will send that out to the Bose youth administrators and then they will submit
that form um further secure our Network so we know who's supposed to be an honor Network um into stay current with that um so that was just a check that water bill is further enhancing so a lot of this audit um we're already doing but with this audit we thank State control and for going and helping even solidify even more because you know with the Cyber event cyber threat landscape it changes every show up um so that just helps us solidify and know the people from both these are the people that should be here and lastly recommendation seven assure that administrative permissions are only provided for Network user accounts that need the permissions as part of the user's job duties and responsibility so this again um also is part of recommendation six which was notifying
of both seats um and the Rick on who should be here um so we did have a couple accounts um that did have elevated user rights because of the job they did when they were here um so what we will do um is what I recommended to talk about recommendation six um with the plan of the administrator signs off and we'll also follow that with number seven or recommendation seven um and also during that yearly ISP review um so that's pretty much our recommendation corrective action plan for number seven also foreign so I want to thank the board for supporting I've been here 11 years so thank you for your support and Technology committee um we're in a very good position um throughout those years um and thank you to the auditor um learned a
lot as we all do in education just the kids don't learn the staff also learn every Sunday so thank you the auditor for further solidifying of our cyber cut landscape and making sure that helps us even more um so we have three Partners now the State Comptroller um BOCES um the furthers here and protect data of the students staff and everybody but thank you guys for your support also yeah have you ever seen an instance of any schools in New York um that have been attacked hacked and held hostage for random um there has been two school districts um so the recommendation is to call in the FBI um so that they can further investigate how that happened um I know one goes up north and they their Network account was shut down for about
four weeks um so depending on that attack what it is not going to work um depending on what that is the recommendation is you have to notify the state or the FBI and all of that so they can come in figure out who was doing it or who was doing it um and there's a whole other thing to protect your data so Kate Miss Hanson would come in to make sure that we are further protecting that student data so if there was a data leak we would have to notify State education department and all of that so um that's why that first call is the Rick um and that's why I've heard um to develop a plan about um but we have seen schools in the area um number one thing where attacks do happens
through email um so up to 90 of attacks throughout districts and companies and adding things through email so the links that you click in your email is typically where it does happen so the district does focus on training um and I believe there's a state requirement to be opening a leader you do cover that information um so our district does focus on that we do tests behind that I won't go into that so the public doesn't know um but we do test users and stuff like that um yeah okay do you guys have a mailbox to send suspect yes um so we do have those in place and the 793 committee out of the regional information system um which has area superintendent Scott Morris director assistant superintendent recommends those items um from the 793 committee
um and then we purchase that software it's a recommendation or whatever I mean we go from there but um it's constantly changing and just educating the users um because it is that link in your email you know here's a free gift card here's you know your order is late even though you didn't order anything um and that's the direct connection and then they're in simply follow-up questions are there because we actually said about any other side of those species so with our data whether it's student data or like what the office does or things like that um if an attack like that were to have a great support same thing you know you get the FBI involved in the investigation but if your data is locked out what is the risk of us is there
a good backup program that if we do get locked out so we'll continue to function with backups so we do have backups and we do have some off-site I want to tell you in public where they are if you're stealing it um but we do have a backup system for that student yeah um and for any data so if anyone's saving we have backup for Google we have that for active directory files and everything both on-site and offside um and all of our main systems um so we are backing up that data um we do pay for a service that backs up the cloud for Google because you kind of have Cloud attacks um so um we do backup that data um and part of that you know we all the right once in a
while can you recover that file for us so we do test that out periodically when we need it um but the Rick is also monitoring that data so they will notify us if somebody's trying to get in that current portal that school tool server and they'll say somebody is trying to log into it and that that helps them especially so thank you everybody said okay we'll move into item four on the agenda on their actions 4-1 approval of the agenda for tonight and I get a motion for approval so I get a second thank you staying any discussion all in favor aye motion carriage item 4-2 approval of the minutes from the October 25th Board of Education meeting and I get a motion for approval so thank you Glenda now getting a second thank you

educate young Sorcerers that's how when school begin now each of these four Founders run their own house for each and value different virtually and ones they have to teach but Gryffindor ravensburg was probably on the rest of the Glamorous so let's be the best for half of five hard workers who most worthy of admission power hungry Slytherin love those great ambition while still alive yeah how to pick the worthy ones when they were dead and gone away who wouldn't be like itself regardless of some raining so I could choose instead and certainly snap around your ears I've never yet before I'll have a look inside your mind until um [Music] thank you so much you did so very easily too I will thank you all for coming thank you very much again thank you so
much for coming thank you Mrs Fox that's great and uh the Junior Senior High will have their product speaking competition on November 7th 7 o'clock okay so on the agenda this evening you will see the appointment of a school district manager so we are really thrilled to announce and since Amanda please um she comes to us from the DCM local Series where she is currently the School of Business manager and she also spent uh eight years in Oklahoma University um as an operations finance manager there but she has a great background and she and her husband live on a farm they've done so Angus beef that they read and they also have people do something else uh so she is going to be wonderful and excited to bring her on her start date with people
so in addition to our business office updates I'm also recommending the promotion of our assistant Treasurer to the treasurer and I'm Cynthia Amarosa who uh really stepped in um to leave the discharge on through the strange Mission and um she has been leading the work of a Treasurer st3 State reporting journal entries and general ledger helping out with the audit and working with our uh Auditors and our Angelo reconciling Federal accounts in accordance with that funding source so um there is nothing to very fortunate that we were able to um so I'm recommending that on the agenda and we are also working on uh really articulating our functional processes the roles and responsibilities of everybody in the office and really capitalizing on having constraints and also being as efficient as possible so we'll hear more
about things but we're working on financial processes and accounting and Reporting budget forecasting payroll purchasing and accounts payable cash management and our auditing terminal and external our management facilities Transportation human resource Information Technology data Food Service Debt Service risk management so we are looking at all those duties and just hooking up with who is responsible for for carrying out those times so so you'll hear more about that so we also so joke you know and I have whoops what an idea in this question Amanda yes so what's um we have for a mentoring plan for so oh thank you for bringing that so Joe pagina is going to be her mentor how long will you you know well I think as long as needed so um definitely want her to feel comfortable foreign season and
again all the reporting because we know there's a lot of State reporting um tax cap calculation there's a lot we'll be talking about with the budget calendar so so Joe is available and uh and as much as needed yes our interim okay so we are working um we've developed our budget calendar just so you know what the action stops hello and our processities are uh for our budget calendar for this year um and this is something that we've reworked so remember we're not going to have a committee um and the board has told me that you've done before everybody participating so that's what I have faced this psychology draw so right now we are having administrative meetings we're discussing our individual initial budget priorities um Joe will be reviewing our long-range financial plan at our
next meeting and December 14th and 19th we will be meeting with our teacher leaders to review our needs assessment and our student enrollment projections with our principal folks and our teacher leaders in January we will continue to discuss our needs assessment uh assessments and really prioritize the greatest needs district-wide and we at our board meeting I will be presenting those leads and what we've identified as the district priorities we will be discussing together what are our budget goals what are our parameters um we'll review the facts half population and any drivers that are major cost drivers such as health care retirement so we'll look at that and we'll look at our meeting dates see if we need to add so and then in February February 14th so we like holidays or Instagram meetings and holidays
and we will be reviewing our state eight runs and that does become available around 30 of January and we'll be reviewing revenues and expenses and our tax cap review so so that is due um to osc by March 1st and at our first uh meeting in March we will um I will be presenting the instructional budget as well as budgets and expenses for transportation buildings and grounds our administrative budget and our debt we will be developing again presenting our preliminary budget and identifying the the initial Gap to continue all programs into the next year and then on March 21st we'll just be continuing those budget discussions and then in April um Kim has a number of requirements that she wants to come by with as far as legal notices and preparing the absentee balance balance
that she will be doing that and candidates will be submitting their candidacy uh to the district with their required number of signatures and their sworn statements and propositions usually plus compensation on the ballot so we need to establish that and then I will be meeting budget newsletter and I need to send it to Jay green so that it can be printed and then mailed out time and then our first meeting in April the New York State Legislature hopefully will have adopted a budget and then if we will be updating our state aid run conjunction will be examining our fund balance to see if that's an option that we want to utilize to supplement our revenues if needed and then the board will adopt the School District budget proposal we will be improving our election inspectors
and then our meeting April 25th we will vote on the BOCES budget and their board member elections as well as submitting on our property tax report tomorrow and then you may again afford legal requirements that are distributor will take care of for us we'll mail out a collection newsletter to all district residents we will have detainable a budget hearing in May 9 and then third Tuesday in May is a bunch of votes on May 23rd from 10 to 8. so it doesn't look like it's a lot but that's a lot so so it's a lot and if we need to add meetings we can absolutely do that um now January we have a board retreat scheduled for January 24th we can convert that into a board meeting or just be focused on um again District
priorities for discussion any questions on all right all good all right so now I am really excited to present to you Mrs Jennifer Donato and enjoying your senior high school by the numbers so let's go for you thank you though good evening everybody good evening good evening I'm outside oh yeah the same country calendars so it is um yeah do you want me to play I'll share with you the right arrows not working thank you yes yes okay thank you so currently we have 342 total students uh we started off in the year in August with 318 so we did accumulate um some student population there's 314 in District and 28 out of the district we have 56 students attending our BOCES programs um and I'll break that down in the next slide 35 CTE
eight New Visions six my tech two p-tech five MSA those are Credit Recovery students um and currently in District we also have three English language learners um our staff and faculty we have 31 teachers five Tas two administrators two counselors three office assistants two teachers a one social worker one school resource officer and three therapy desks here's one in training um so you can see right now the breakdown of our ctac courses our students love these courses they there's nothing but accolades for them they have the gamut of choices and they really are invested in this we have 90 plus different course offerings and listings 43 course offerings at BOCES for AP courses 19 dual credit courses with mvcc TCC SUNY Morrisville and four distance learning courses our Regents results so you'll see the total
number of students that actually took the regions in June and then the percentage of um so 0 to 54 is a is a one 55 to 64 is a two and so on and so forth so the accumulation of so for example geometry 23 27 students took that examination 52 percent got a 65 or better and I gave everybody a paper copy so if you wanted to peruse this later if you had any questions our AP exam results um so English lit our average score was approximately a three U.S history same thing calc a two and bio a three all together there were 47 exams that were taken well let me move this I know no so the number of eggs the score for the task is out of five five being the highest one
being the lowest okay so there were 13 students total that took English letters nobody got a five two out of the 13s out of four and it's still true that four to five usually yes creative allow us yes it depends on the college how do these uh do we know how these band scores Trend over time it's like three like 21 to 22 20 21. I can get that information for you yeah I think that would be important especially with the Regents APS and the SATs and stuff start C [Music] I have the Regents data and I actually did a trend but it the numbers were not showing up and we couldn't figure out how to get not only the percentages but the numbers into the spreadsheet we try to excel we try to transfer
it over but I can do those and I can share those documents with you and this way you can at least see it we all need to jump again questions that's just one other thing I would like to see also especially given the last few years would be where we compare to the average right so it's the average I don't even see the average sport is on top okay so that's just the average score and then uh college board does provide how your school ranks yeah comparison to New York State students as well with matching so that is information that that um I guess the average I still want to know how many percent they get fours and bucks for 18. and same thing with Regents and we know with the pandemic data is different
so I want to see how is that Earth look across the state versus Mars they don't want to just look in black couple years it's probably how this is downpouring in other places and that's something I could have prepared for the next coordinating so yeah and is there any opportunities to increase our AP offerings and so that's what Dr spring and I talked about um in our last teacher leader meeting we are trying to implement a new course catalog we're going to look at all of the data of what we offer and what we hope to offer um we'd also like to offer a more dual credit courses as well all right one question how far back do you have the current test scores um I think I can go back on progressing okay so
that would have to be married yes but it's all on the school report card on the public site same time um so but these questions are very very helpful because this way I know exactly what you're interested in seeing as well so I appreciate that um so our SAT graduating seniors we obviously declined a little bit last year but I think that also has to do with our students that are taking skilled courses at BOCES um so that you saw there was 53 just this year um and it was comparable last year I think it was in the 40s so um our AP students we had 49 and or PSAT we had 19 this year so back to the the seniors taking the SAT I also think that now there's a lot there are a
lot of colleges that do not you know so I think that it's definitely important to the other students agree and just a question so on the PSATs is there room for improvement there in communicating Why students should take those in the National Merit scholar program versus to your point they may not need to take SATs anymore the PSATs can lead to significant recognition and Mrs Nigro did go over that with the students she had multiple meetings with the students and our foundation board actually paid for our PSATs and I would just be curious why I declined that I would want to understand for students like there's really no marketing house and I think a lot of that has to do with the day and age of the October that happened so a lot of students
just do not like sitting for an examination so um this is Donato mentioned the course selection book that program of study that she is working on right now with her for faculty and I think by you know providing information in that course uh selection program studied on why it's important to take the kids and what these tests mean so that would just be another way to get the message and another support for parents to say this is why I would like you to take it so yeah it's just teaching them a greater instant absolutely um so our overall performance for our culpert um you can see reading and writing math was a little bit higher out of those 12 students and our total was 1100. um obviously because of covid our numbers were a little
bit lower in the previous year so we are increasing our graduation data So currently we have um sorry I know it's like redundant that's okay but I would still be curious what what is an average I don't know I probably should know because I'm a junior but when we say SAT score that we were 11 73 we're upset but 1600. oh the average overall I'm sorry how did you find that out because it's good we're improving but is 11.73 where we want our kids is it above average okay [Music] I mean there's so many things you can look at statistics it's very different right I would I would hope it would be higher to your point I think it's the past certain aspirations sorry um so in June 22 we had 51 total graduates 13
Regents diplomas with Advanced designation and 16 Regents diplomas not only with Advanced designation but with honors so that's very impressive um so the rigor is you know being stressed there were 22 Regents diplomas one student out of district and one student who's homeschooled we have a 45 and this was just from student data this information that students gave at the end of last year as to where they were going so 45 of our students last year went to a four-year College 37 to a two-year 16 saw employment right after high school one percent went into the military and one percent of it so 22 reasons diploma is out of the 22 uh 16 had Advanced destination with honors that would just leave the remaining I'm trying to figure out 13 and 16 are two different
groups of people yes there are two different types of people yeah okay cool so attendance last year was 51. I think currently we're at 48. otherwise everybody had Regents no there was um one student who moved out of District so yes so in-house we did not have any local diplomas only they don't do like 10 Regents anymore oh they don't no okay I haven't been in high school a long time yeah so right now we're really delving into attendance we talk about it every single Tuesday at our Lynx meeting um we have Mr Fister doing our irt's making home visits um communicating with parents making those phone calls through the counseling office um our unexcused absences significantly declined we're really pressing on giving us those notes making sure you're calling the school and making sure
you're here unfortunately our excused did go up um but as you know we're dealing with covid we're dealing with flu we had to go home yesterday with blue a and RSV so it's it's really been challenging um not only with the nurse but with the clinic just it's literally been a revolving during this building question with the with the excused absences do you have I'm sure it's probably a confidential but like a breakdown of like what like is it an excuse for a doctor's appointment versus something else yeah so if you bring me a note from a doctor it's code adapter if you bring me a note from a dentist it's called a dentist if you're telling me that you have like a physical therapy appointment or an eye appointment or something of that nature
it's excused um medical would mean you're out if you had surgery or something advantage there's a letter that goes to them and give us too many days they're just got updated two weeks ago automatically no so our office has to um print those out and send them so that is on our docket for the end of this week and that's a nice weather yes then she came back to school and she had the flu and we sent her home and I got a letter I'm sorry I said why did I get a letter like I know my kid's supposed to be in school I'm like tired in some districts they are General automatically generous in my old District they were automatically generated 5 10 15 20. so much so Behavior we had 226 total discipline
referrals this was as of Friday um there were 21 more than the previous year but as you know we're really trying to implement um school safety we had four out of school suspensions three lessons in the previous year we had one superintendent hearing 18 in school suspensions which was the exact same numbers last year and restorative justice practices so I've really been trying to work with some of the younger students as we all know are really having a hard time getting themselves acclimated back into a routine so we are allowing them to come to me if they have any issues whatsoever I actually had a student utilize that service today ninth period and the last six minutes of class he said Mrs tonight come in here and do my work I just needed a title
I said absolutely so he sat with all his work in the conference room he got right back to work doing whatever assignment he needed to do but sometimes kids just need that safe space to go to um and so hopefully we're making an impression in this building that they do have that option um not only can they come to my office they can we have a little um like break room that I've had kids sit in if the office is being utilized we have the conference room right in the front that they utilize they also have a social workers office the counseling office so there's many places that they can go to get assistance yes yes it's now in um compilation they CCS has it so they're just compiling the data we did that in
gym classes two weeks ago just so we can get it moving soon we not only help with some of these um and so we've also issued um safety passes so if a student is uncomfortable um in the hallway for whatever reason be it anxiety or whatever I've issued laminated safety passes where they can come and wait it out come at the end of their period wait it out in the office let the crowds disseminate and then they go on to their class so we're really trying to work with the students to get them back because as we all know social emotional learning is is on the rise so we're just all working together and it's it's been great like the kids that come in and know they can come in and talk to me and
I have kids stop me every time I'm in the hallway this is Donato can I talk to you if it's something private I'll have them come back to the house if it's something we can discuss as we walk that's what we do so um I just broke it down by the top four infractions comparatively from year to year so a lot of this that we were finding because this really worried me because I'm constantly in the hallways and I'm constantly like I'll look over to see you know who's in the hallway once and Holly Mr Fister does the grounds constantly as we all know if you're not getting the instruction you're not learning so what we found that to be is Miss Coatings so for example if a student um went to the bathroom without
a pass and the majority of these were in the beginning of the school year as I said a lot of the um underclassmen just did not understand that you have to get a pass you have to go to your teacher first you can't go to the bathroom you can't go to the counselor you can't go to the nurse before you check in with the teacher so I think we've are on the road to recovery there but unfortunately at the beginning of the year it was you know that was that um failure to follow instruction a lot of this is in the classroom itself um maybe a student talks out of churn or things like that um so we're really trying to implement the first mode of communication needs to be the teacher calling home so
the parent can speak directly with the teacher so the parent can speak directly with the teacher and find out exactly um what's going on thank you your watch is this thing So currently we have 18 clubs and activities for our students to choose from we did have a club Fair on November the second tables were set up in the gym with information Club reps and handouts and we're really trying to promote for the kids to get involved in in just something the club fair was new this year yes it was new to the channel yeah Mrs Owens over thought that and it was great so next year we actually had and you know there's always room for improvement so Mrs Gallagher had a great idea um next year we're going to try to have it
at open house instead um and have a kid run so some of the students that are already in the class running the tables during open house so especially our upperclassmen they can they I mean they've been here for you know five years so they can come in they can get their Chromebooks they can get their schedules and then they can kind of run the show so um we actually have a visitor we have Sir Arthur here today he is one of our service dogs in training um Brewer and Wilson so this is Wilson this is Mrs nigro's dog and you know Brewer their certified therapy dogs uh Sir Arthur and ginger Dr springstock are in training currently it started in 2016 with Mrs nicotera um they can attend school every day if they choose they
can attend school functions they work with both students and adults as needed they're visible in the Halls Cafe and they go around and they can visit people and I can just tell you from being here this year this is so beneficial for our students we have a couple young ladies that have severe anxiety and one of them has literally been keeping Ginger right next to her on a daily basis and I check in with her every day in the hallway so I check and connect how are you doing is she helping are you okay are you able to continue with your studies in the classroom she's like yes as long as I hit her I can do it great um and so Mrs Gallagher also has guinea pigs a hedgehog right so from a chinchilla
and those from time to try and go to the different classrooms I was actually subbing in Geometry the other day and we have the guinea pig in class with us so and what's nice is the kids will they're so kind with each other so it'll be on one child's desk and then another child just feel the need to hold it and they do they take their notes and they're holding the Pat or the you know petting it's it's wonderful foreign had gone over this already so I just briefly summarized our athletic participation um we all know sports are huge and they just did such an amazing job this year I was so proud of everybody so our football made it to the first round of sectionals as you know cheerleading had a great year Varsity
soccer they had a growing season um cross country also had a growing season and we'll talk about that in a second and our boys varsity soccer made it to the section 3 title game this is our projected winter athletic so far and so right now Mrs Decker who teaches our dual credit Spanish class has linked up with a class in Argentina and so these students actually they wanted to see our school they wanted to see how beautiful our grounds were so the students themselves got permission and they went all around outside inside um and they took video so these are some of the captions from the video itself and the video call is going to be um I think tomorrow I think they're doing the video call tomorrow in class wait and our first chop
food challenge last week it was excuse me it was wonderful I'm sure you guys smelled all the good food cooking um excuse me the kids absolutely loved it some of our faculty got to go in and be the judge and I just want to point out Miranda that's why I said I'll get back to the cross country Miranda Matthews actually is going to um sectionals on Saturday States excuse me so if you are available one o'clock on Saturday she'll be at VBS so we'd really like to have a lot of participation rooting her on and she started at 17th and I think she ended at this so that's huge she was seated 17th came in six overall oh that was amazing yeah and she's a first year run yeah and one of the sport athlete
there's so many things yeah you can't make it up excuse me so this again uh previews our chalk challenge so Mrs Neff took pictures of all our students made this so some of these could be on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens they really did a great job so I'm going to turn it over we have a couple students here that are going to take over and discuss our FFA we have Natalie excuse me so we went to the international statutes which was in Indiana and um I mean it was really quite an experience I wish that I had gone last year I'm a senior and you can go from 11 to 12th grade and we went to all the places listed on there one of my favorite places was um the spend Thrift
Thoroughbred Farm we got to see the 2020 um Kentucky winning horse day which was pretty amazing and he was telling us facts all about the horse and it was Super Bowl that's one of my favorite things um overall I love the whole experience we had the opportunity to meet people from all over our nation um from the Virgin Islands Puerto Rico to California Hawaii everywhere and anywhere like we saw um and we got to meet so many different people and backgrounds and learned that agriculture is really more than just the Farms we see around here um we were able to go to a concert and we had sessions which were just leadership conversations like with like I mean like 30 000 other kids and all together there was like um 69 000 people as it
says up there um just walking around Indianapolis um yeah we had a great experience we had a keynote speaker that played in the WNBA Tamika Catchings and she talked to us about leadership and overcoming adversity and it was a good thought yeah we learned a lot but we were gone it was worth it and we both wish we had gone last year but and what I actually observed last week I observed their teacher and I actually observed them bringing that information into the classroom and Reporting out into the classroom for their other classmates what they learned um why it's done and going forward um best practices for the future so it really does make a difference thank you so this is our little initiative spring and I are working on new courses that we implemented
this year as well as our um courses that we're going to try to implement for next year so that currently this year we have child psych of human development and culturals and World technology and power and Tech and you can see Brewer at the bottom thank you it was really but he's your horses hold in our school or if you're both sensor yeah right now um and so our new course catalog this coming soon we're very very excited about this um I think it's really gonna take us in a different direction it's going to help not only our families make choices but I think it's going to kind of spell out what the needs are to be a graduating student from Waterville so it's going to include programs of study course description graduation requirements in
different pathways I think starting that earlier you know with the kids then 11th and 12th grade is more important for the parents so having an 11th and fourth grader now there's things I may have wanted to know when they were eight tonight yep enough to help getting that sooner than later absolutely so so this one will be a seven through twelve but we are also looking at cases so that there's a program to study as well for um that's awesome yeah you know today's thing one of our goals our missions here is to give beverage to the same opportunity and it's important to remember that not every student comes from a family situation or background where their parents or parents Guardian even knows how to prepare them for where they should be in one fourth
grade so being in front of this with all students at the right pages and providing that Guidance with a student and the family whatever the families like it's very important to make sure that you know like my child shouldn't have an advantage just because of my background and I know what to prepare them for every child of the student should get to see them and our guidance staff is really diligent about getting to know the overall student right so they're really they're calling them in getting to know them getting to meet them working with them right from the beginning so it's been wonderful the kids really do feel closer to them they feel that they can talk to them they have that Outreach when it comes to Mrs Ranchi and Mrs Nigro so it's it's
just been wonderful just remember a few years ago we had a thing every child hadn't told the story foreign and the more you know the easier it is to think outside the box in a system so questions and this was taken today look how cute you guys look um yeah so miss nicotero did a great job aligning the 23 yeah um for our seniors you want to talk about SAT scores try to do that [Laughter] yes are we still uh putting any focus on the farm to school program um so that was that was more of like our cafeteria offerings so um I don't believe we are right now um I think the district did have a plant previously um I'm not sure if there are more grants available but definitely if it makes sense
um yeah so going back to the this what feedback what are we hearing from teachers about what they're seeing in the last few hours like last year or just curious about that uh I've got nothing but positive feedback um and we make it a point yet every single faculty meeting to ask for their feedback because we do want to know just like when a student or students are in my office I ask for their feedback how can I help you further what else do you need from me um so same thing with the teachers you know what can we do to help you how can we get to where we need to be um and we've had performance and nothing but possibility yeah and that would just be curious to learn I would think the
majority of our parents would not want to see the top rolls 45 referrals for failure to follow instructions that seems like something we should be able to um as a school community that students should be coming to school ready to list I know yes and idealist to get it but that really should be the animals and that the teachers are in charge absolutely yes and I think that's why a lot of the times I promote as the teacher you need to be the person reaching out to the man they need to hear it from you first because then they can ask those questions and they can get that feedback well this is just an outline of circumstance um what happens is it always this way maybe we need to move the seat or get them
away from the friends that are in the classroom so I like that you know those types of conversations I always ask those questions I make those phone calls um but I think too we've got to recognize the 39 periods a day and these students that came in at the beginning of the year were not acclimated with how the buildings should be left so now that everybody is kind of acclimated the discipline is minimum compared to what it was in September and I I don't want to speak to the rest of it but for me I think that's what I wanted to learn how to be better support having the right environment with high expectations so that when kids are in a classroom and they're not distracting because the other pieces as a parent number one
I would expect my kids to follow instructions and to be disciplined that they did but number two I don't want them distracted right like every student needs to be paid it's very important one thing I am um with uh you know our scores I I really like the breakdown this year of getting something together I'd like to talk on some historical so we have something to look at absolutely because look at this then you know it's awesome this is a big step in the right direction you know in that struggle but also and we've talked about this in the past how are our students doing we you know they graduated 12th grade what are what are we doing you know next year checking in to see did the CTE program prepare them for the career
Plumbing electrical whatever are we they love the course is it advantageous is it working for them are they getting careers in what they wanted to you know to pursue and that kind of thing and academically are our kids you know are they competing you know getting to the first year of college and I know we did a report today and again I don't know if any surveying of our graduates [Music] and that could be something very simple we only had 51 graduates so that kind of data that you know that I would absolutely file a letter and send something out and say Here's a forum or even put out a Google format yeah but that's that's very easy earlier I would be curious I am a huge fan of the Dual credit classes students graduated
with 30 credits absolutely honest that's one last year I'm glad it went right with three kids that's a real thing but at the same time I would be curious if we were asking questions on the survey are those dual credit classes preparing our students for their college classes the way scoring the floor of violination split again those AP classes are transferable or any levels use four four or five and you go into the next level of class you can test out and get credit it won't be behind what are our kids finding the same thing if they become credit class and they're going to school and maybe they Advance ahead are they placed well in my class I think that's important too so if remember the AP is a national right so if you score
a four on the AP Literature it's note the colleges they know what the level of render was I mean that that's something we need to look at like that is extremely transferable any level of college if you are in a vehicle changes well it could be right and that's why we talked about the area when we have our meetings once a month that's really that was literally number one they took a consensus of all the pencil in the area and the number one thing that we all discuss that we want more feedback on we want to work together on today's learning loss right so like data right you know here's the Benchmark here's where we are it's our trending and I will actually tell us for you yeah reasons of the story but you can
stream together and then right yeah and see that's also about the curriculum work what are we teaching and we're working on that realignment uh with our teacher leaders and Learners from the teachers so that works is in place we are continuing it and and it all flows together right if you take APA Brookings or four or five your SCP keywords are higher same with that if you're scoring four or five and AP classes your sap score your regions diploma you'll be achieving a higher level reach so it it's all part of creating a strong print and many districts offer the instead of well there are 11 honors English honors classes which language proposition of course and you know that is something you can work towards we're not doing that but it would be a nice
goal to deal with Robert you can I show you the peace and a lot of these courses also align with your credit so a little more challenging for a teacher to teach a few people credit but then at least a student in the class is going to leave with something right either a hiring score or you're going to lead with it right it would be interesting in the survey also how many of those Democratic courses they get credit you know what I mean are we are there transferable you know I mean how are they use them that's a great point a lot of the Dual credits are not against foreign no there's a lot of great stuff I think they're going in the right direction um this is a great start we appreciate it yeah
thank you and and no I and I would second that and just say you know we have I've been straight back here on the spot um but you you talk about sports and then you went to all the sporting events fall uh did well and you just didn't I I didn't hear one student athlete say they wanted to lose or have low expectations they want to have by it they want to do well they when they find their passion whether it's a CTE right or Sports and or just classroom R should be high and you know our kids here can't cheat wonderful things but they need to be set up with those high expectations and support to get there I appreciate what I see but on question one and in doing that we support the
teachers in a ways yes better if they need better practical development whatever we can do to support them yeah thank you I appreciate that person well I'd really like to commend them yeah thank you for doing a wonderful job and thank you for a very very well-known Department thank you I have another questions learning classes that we have um ASL American Sign Language Mandarin and I think there's two foreign and there are two levels when I was reading during the summer about what our students our graduates were going on to uh what they've been going to college for and I noticed there were quite a few more than a handful that were going into Medical they were going into nursing that chat one was going into pre-med um Physical Therapy has always been and I
was wondering does having Latin does knowing some Latin help these kids that are going into their house that's my question I don't know does that help kids going into the house well that would be the next step if the answer is yes I don't know what the answer is so so at new Harford high school we have Latin and we can barely first of all couldn't find the teacher to replace the teacher who was retiring and uh it was hard to get kids to sign up for so the closest living language to last Spanish so I mean students can still decide to study the planet still got that you know all those groups that's what's Lively yeah that's what I was thinking perhaps another distance learning to learn how we school they have the handful
or more kids that are going into I'm not even sure if um Mr Smith offers that via distance learning I know they offer the Spanish they offer French they offer Italian um I know Harvard is one of the last districts that that had it I took four years [Music] thank you didn't make living Spanish attention exactly so that's why Sir Arthur is very impressed about too is that uh look at Spanish and we do have I think a lot of nice offerings in the science department to really well career in science I mean we are looking into possibly align our Region's physics scores from 82.1 and that would be um oh that would be great yeah so so we're going to take that for the next that would be free apologize especially um all right
so I'm going to see so um for Miss hinderling um as a sick child at home so she's not here so I will do my best and married slides um but they had fire safe today at Ambience and so we thanked our Brookfield Waterville dietsborough and Oriskany Falls fire departments for helping to just really educate our students and that was actually what did motion last year um one of our students her family she cited the fire department and it's really educating her on what to do and things and of course it was Halloween uh so so lots of fun there with our PTA and the Hollow Trail and their October matter meeting I actually did attend that and it was really great that you had the band or they crafted um like sports songs they
were really great at first I thought it was the high school band it was so good and I know so much my goodness are our students and you have the I think it's cold practice feed box yes I heard that yes he heard uh he did it also in the matter yes he was with me he was something else because you have not heard yeah yeah there he is that was a recording Vine like there's so many different sounds like it's amazing whole thing um so and then you know they do classroom Partnerships between different grade levels for uh mentoring I think that's the best program that they definitely asked and I think we had um Jayden on that and I think that's data right now you're done yes oh great and upcoming events we
have our Veterans Day celebration at 8 30 on Thursday so definitely you're available please do not buy we are honoring local veterans um that we have parent-teacher conferences as you know um 15th and 17th district-wide so we're excited about that in everyone's schedule we have um during that time training for teachers assistant teaching assistants and AIDS and monitors uh with our conducted Community Schools folks and ground Cooperative Extension our November faculty meeting that was today and they did have deaths of training by Mark soloha and they are looking at revising the Elementary report card and instead of having orders of transition to electronic system events most expensive at most elementary schools so I think that a pretty powerful discussions today so we were able to beat that so that will be a really nice strategy
for those for you um and they have the book fair and pancakes of pajamas and lots of um before we move on to board discussion uh Joe did you want to say anything about what you're working on and some of the systems you're trying to put in place for us we try to document all the processes in doing each one of the financial functions AP the uh payroll the whole polytria of uh responsibility to go on in a business office and uh one of the tools that I um I've got a lot of Private Industry experience and some equipment a school district experience well in Private Industry excuse me we recognize our expenditures in comparison to Budget on a monthly basis on a yearly basis in school districts we don't do that we just set
up 20 billion dollars worth of about 200 line items and we make sure that each one of those line items stays within the budgeted amount in totality and I with my uh Private Industry background have carved it out into 12 months and I'm mainly a concerned with where I am on a year-to-date basis and uh I've modeled that out in a couple of other districts and it's been very helpful it doesn't take a long time once you get it all set up in Excel and you just Import in the GL prom you download the GL into uh Excel and then vlookup to put it into this proper place and uh so I I got that done uh today uh for one of them uh Tracy only had about a little over 200 line items uh
other districts have got a lot more go to Syracuse city school district has thousands but how do you make sense out of looking at all that data will drop it down into four or five categories I attracted down into 12 can a person I didn't make nonsense out of you know instructional salaries support sales the trails and supplies that service Health Care we've been able to accomplish this now I just want to you know analyze it it gives uh one uh sense to analyze the financial side one sheet of paper extra informational chair would solve from starting budget process yeah and it will be nice to have the system sent out or Amanda thank you things okay okay so then also another as well I can talk about it so we're looking at um like
they talked about the what each employee does in the business office and I did a little Cliffhanger in the High School faculty meeting um about this um but we will be we're in the middle of money to optigate um so employees will be able to put in for their time online and they'll be able to take um and see what time they have available left um so no more green sheets um it's all going to be electronically um so um it's going to be right there so principal save it right in front of them um they'll see how much sick time they have left all of that um it's going to go right in there and they can update all of their information it goes to camera Cynthia so prioritizing and streamlining a lot of
things and then we're going to meet with um Administration um to go over the requisition piece of envision envisions our financial software um So within that requisition um we are going to look at the process and who checks things in how requisitions are submitted and just streamline things um so I started um working with Tracy last year and I'm like we got to streamlines of things um get rid of a little bit more paper um and we did that with ML schedules today so we now have um a platform where we're reserving all of our rooms um optivate for time off feeling all of that getting your W2s all of that wouldn't is probably jumping up and down hoping it was year years ago um and doing that requisition so a lot of streamlining and
looking at the softwares and taking advantage of that who does what and if they don't do that anymore what else can they do so that's great all right I'm seven are we done I'm just having the agenda for discussion lately you said you wanted to give an update Association I think this should be fine if you can do anything all right uh this year the New York State School Board Association uh you know meetings in Syracuse which are very convenient it was October 27 28th and 29th and uh there were probably 50 uh presentations you could choose to go to which was physically impossible so I I had to pick and choose um the first one I went to was the Genesee Valley School uh central building a community school in rural districts and basically
what they did was they built their own school-based health systems he did it please and also they talked about reliability and we the liabilities some of our providers now but there was some good uh stuff they do they have a grab-and-go breakfast for their secondary level students they have an annual seventh grade College Tour they train their custodians to be repaired them teacher aides to be teachers and that is resulting in local leadership foreign like to involve everyone in decision making everyone meaning transportation we have bacteria custodial and they do a lot of things that we do to senior citizen prompts and students and beginners they have a director of Wellness who sets up the fire safety days they're bringing Dental into their school the main speaker was actress Marley Matlin she's a deaf actress
and uh her Mantra is her philosophy is never let barriers get in the way for her entire discussions you sign for uh Speech to us and there was a translator on stage that vocalized what she was saying um your parents mainstreamed her uh she was involved in her neighborhood she was just another kid even though she was deaf the barriers weren't hurt years the barriers were the people around her that wanted to hear me she first experienced theatrics at a summer camp and about that connection and the joy of connecting with a [Music] uh Henry Winkler did not direct her away from acting he and his son both have dyslexia uh as far as overriding these barriers she had an Oscar at age 21. and Rex Reed said it was a Pity vote and that
really deserved a deaf actor playing a duck character and again Henry Winkler encouraged her after her second Oscar she uh presented uh Awards and she got pushed back from the deaf Community her speeding while signing agents and at this point will be Goldberg right reminder to Don't Look Back only look forward She was recently turned down for a role playing a judge a producer didn't even want to consider her and uh the show was canceled earlier and she signed up another meeting was conducting a fair and unbiased superintendent evaluation uh what I took away from that is longer tenure has a positive effect on student achievement average tenure in New York state is 3.2 years and I thought we were doing pretty good when I compared the way we did our evaluations this year uh
to what was being suggested we uh jointly and and led by Dr spring established annual priority goals uh between both the board and the superintendent we are encouraged uh to ask her what in her mind is highly effective effective in developing what do those terms mean to you there's also a booklet people don't write news about the data collected and I didn't get a and we should keep on the second one okay and our evaluation should be evidence-based to avoid bias another one was uh Leverage proactive policy management to create transparency and a lot of this uh there were two presenters one of them was a representative from a software company that puts out board docs apparently it's widely used because most of the people in the room probably 50 60 people in the room
most of them were very familiar with board backs and using it on maybe it's something we can look into at some point one takeaway was policy must reflect what we're doing or it's no good policy is our number one risk management tool tool and don't blindly adult tests and the policy committee should create minutes that should reflect the reason for creation or change and that was something we talked about too how do we know the history behind these policies Friday afternoon I uh launched a video called tough home it was a film by a young filmmaker and did it followed four teens four teenagers in New York state who had attempted suicide and some statistics one in five kids experience a mental health problem only 20 of them will see a health provider about hence
when strong empathy are more likely to have depression it's called a risky string or a stubborn brain we wanted to fix everything and I too want to fix everything myself hard to ask for help a lot of determinations ADHD media has a strong influence on how genes learn about depression unfortunately it's mostly the negative some is positive but self-diagnosis is a risky business and uh you saw the movie 13 Reasons Why that was about suicide and that glamorized suicide youth suicide increased by 28 during the month after that movie came out okay and what we want to work towards is a breakdown of the culture of Silence change it to a culture of strength the opportunities for wellness and prevention from a young age and I uh have a positivity project noted there positive Psychiatry
learn about what your happiness is instead of well when I was in school we were taught about what the mental health disorders are we weren't taught about happiness and parents and adults who've talked about their adult down times as well not just their good times and their successes they should discuss with their children and be open with their children so Friday afternoon uh Future Ready schools require future reading boards education technology typically lags 50 years behind the business world but in covid we've been gain we did gain ground we should Embrace Transparency and accessibility by continuing to live stream our meetings and there is no job now that is not connected to technology it was a conversation Saturday morning with the commissioner uh Chancellor of the New York State Education Department Dr Betty Rosa and
Dr James Baldwin who's the senior Deputy Commissioner at Nissan Forest education policy a study at MIT Dr Rosa said they were answering questions from the audience that were submitted beforehand and one of them was about banning books and there was a study at MIT that said most Banning is based on false information and purview was single history story cannot continue to exist uh Dr Baldwin was asked about uh Dei which is diversity equity and inclusiveness they're looking for funding there's a great lack of funding for it and they're also looking to advance Regional opportunities and that's something we talked as important about this previous sport last year a lot of uh we really need to push our regional schooling and that's what I thought of the distance learning the land the New York State teacher
of the year was Billy Greene he was a young chemistry teacher from the Bronx he was Puerto Rican black and Italian he is his uh initial education was at UCLA which he describes as the University of the corner of Lexington Ave which is Spanish Harlem uh he was a fantastic speaker and he said um when we see diversity we tend to think of black and white but he says we need to see ourselves as white people as Greek Italian Lebanese diversity isn't just black and white we also set a true professional learns from their students and gives students on your school board and I'm going to talk about that before it's not your next meeting during the question and answer time um they talked about CTE which is Career and Technical education and all these
years on the board I'm still learning about these acronyms CTE has higher success rates they're exploring increasing funding for CTE regionalization is being done in New England they want to instead of bussing they want to regionalize uh technologically instead of bussing students back and forth to BOCES too much learning China's Lost and also a local diploma uh is needed for disabled students and SCD is looking at multiple Pathways for diplomas I think this is my last one the last one I attended was leading to support culturally responsive and inclusive districts um educational Equity is an ongoing process that removes historic barriers foreign was a little disappointed with this uh on YouTube on YouTube production was recommended what is culturally responsive teaching and that's included and that was recommended to be viewed and also to include
in that curriculum and it was noted that our students identify themselves as very diverse and thank you for sending me I appreciate it very much it was a really broadening experience um just the uh floor the excellent War I couldn't believe the number of vendors there that they're actually doing other care for options International out there I made a list of them oh there were two electric school buses out there it Inferno [Music] thank you you're welcome okay thank you yeah I um you know for me as a board member it was my professional development right so I went to this class and went to it and I was getting stuff out of it this is a board we come in here we get elected and we say we're like okay this is what we're
supposed to do well we did a couple online classes to me I felt really enriched there to see what was going on a lot of the classes were taught by superintendents or teachers or people that have been in education um so I took a lot out of it um the classes were were really good you could pick and choose like Linda sunderers or 50. I did one on District goals you know stuff that like work the board should start looking at you know District roles I did one on uh evaluating superintendent Linda I didn't know she was in the class we tried to kind of do some different ones I know we went our own way with that when we ended up some of the classes were so busy you couldn't so you have to
jump into another one so I did the evaluating superintendent I we're doing a pretty good job here now we're on track I think there's 15 school districts aren't even doing it um I think we're we're doing a pretty decent job here um I did take a lot of the classes in school secure if that's something um it's really can go like um so for the Thursday Friday Saturday Friday is a big day Thursday afternoon as you can go out like on a Thursday I don't know where it is um so Friday's a big day Saturday morning is kind of quiet there's not I didn't I didn't mean to ask you about Saturday I got a lot of Thursday and Fridays there at the vendors that are there there's some interesting things to see you know
you don't have to recreate the wheel right the wheels out there from a lot of other districts and stuff so I think it was positive for me it was an FFA there um so I gave them Mrs Galaxy and they gave the maple concrete oh I didn't see that I didn't see their I didn't see where they were but it's in the big kind of thing um one other thing on board discussion you know like pounds is with us and this month's new students should come home for The Optimist Club so he gradually the Genesis great job okay anybody else where did Eminem's come from Amazon it's like and near me at Waterville Junior Senior High because it's my 22nd year I just wanted to first of all commend our new principal and assistant principal
on a wonderful start of the school year kids feel safe teachers feel safe and communication is excellent some things we were really lacking um I do think that coven set us back a little bit and we're getting back to normal and I think that we are seeing an improvement in attendance because kids do feel safe kids come they want to learn the biggest challenge we're facing as teachers in the high school anyway I'm speaking for myself um I just wanted you know people are asking board members are asking how are the teachers feeling while I'm here um so one of the biggest challenges we're facing is number one mental health and that that's I think everyone recognizes that a lot of the pandemic um and that being a barrier to learning because if kids don't
feel good about themselves and whether they're from a low socioeconomic group or not you know even some of those higher associate students are feeling that pressure from parents and other places to be successful well I think we're still seeing a lot of that I've seen that more in the past five years than I've ever seen since teaching because since I began teaching but one of the other things is kind of like a side effect it's like kids just don't want to do stuff at home it's we have these upper level kids that are really doing stuff which is really great but I'm finding like the general population because we were online for a year and a half are really struggling with the idea that you know you pack to take this home and you have
whatever and you're not going to get a grade order if you don't do it so it's as a teacher we're finding them for constantly exciting the Spectrum for some students and some students have real reasons why they expect.com they do but many of the general population they just don't know how to study they haven't been taught how to study because they've missed almost two years and so this is something I feel between study skills and um some structure to that um and I would think that Mrs Danada strongly agree with that um this is stuff that we've talked about so um study skills is really important just that responsibility outside of the school room the classroom as far as the attack is concerned I have a lot of students who go to sleep time and
I can tell you it's one of the greatest things kids often go into that career path when they graduate I keep in touch with so many more bunk beds and I'm very very proud of how they've turned out and those kids who don't necessarily go into that field find something similar to it where they can use those skills and number one they're learning how to be career ready so whatever they end up choosing I mean I don't know about you guys but when I was 17 I really didn't know exactly what I was going to do and I consider myself pretty successful um and the other thing I wanted to just note on were the SATs I I have a college age Son and one of the things I found is that um a lot
of schools are doing the way with the SATs and I'm also finding that kids are that colleges that are saying that they're optional they're actually hurting kids college entry and based on their scores if they don't do really well on their Snapchat it's just something to consider because I know we're really putting a lot of uncuts on scores but we're actually finding if you do the research I mean Harvard doesn't even find your SAT score now there's a reason why you know I think that it's good for some kids to take them but I also think that it needs to be able is and as far as dual credit is concerned All State schools accept dual credit classes my son is transferred already and we took everything we graduated from employed with 36 credits they've
taken everything and I do feel like the criteria for those classes do prepare them for college so I just wanted to answer a few questions for you based on my own knowledge here and um as a parent but other than that thank you for being wonderful about me bringing my dog thank you for all you do and for asking those questions we feel supported yeah foreign [Music] foreign okay can I get a motion I mean can I get a second seconds Steve discussion I actually have one question on one of the contracts I think we'll have someone executive session because it's a composition contract that's correct so we you well now let's let's pull out a pull out a level five I have a question about the contrary so we'll vote on eleven one two
three four six seven eight and nine so I'm just circling the one you're pulling you're looking at one and saying you're going into effective section for well we were going to judge Obsession that we have almond flavor of the consent agenda as amended all right all right motion carries you cannot get a motion to go into exact objection we'll discuss approachment on the matter at 7 45 some of them previously all in favor aye aye going to Executive sessions Steve Stanton and Steve Turner thank you and I just what I would be remiss if I didn't say engage my existed for performance as Owens she's been amazing she's worked so tirelessly since the beginning and Mrs Thompson
