I need a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of 9 28 22. Kathy Roseanne all those in favor it's everybody Dr Farrelly okay thank you Miss campisano good evening everyone thank you so much for being here today and joining us from home remotely uh this week is school lunch Personnel recognition week so on behalf of our Board of Education and our Administration team I would like to take a moment to thank our school lunch Personnel for all their hard work and dedication to our students staff and faculty next week is School Board recognition week we are looking forward to acknowledging our Board of Education trustees during the October 25th board meeting that should be fun we have some surprises and some student guests uh that have been invited to join us that night
so that should be nice let's see last week despite the rain homecoming festivities were great success the pep rally in particular was truly spectacular I mean easily we definitely had over a thousand people there I was chilly definitely chilly um but it was awesome uh students staff so many West Babylon families um enjoying uh the outdoor activities and cheering on our West Babylon Eagles special thank you to Mr Amato who was definitely the main person behind the scenes um the administration team and definitely quite the group right organizing all those different events I know PTA was definitely also involved so again thank you to all involved it really was a great success I think special thanks should go to James Fulton oh yes definitely uh Mr Fulton the MC um very quick short story my
daughter that night a few of you know this I um they're calling me and I'm not listening right and I hear my little one go to my older one Hey Taylor hey Teacher Calls her TT hey TT when I say Mom you say me ma why did I turn around I'm like you've got to be kidding me so obviously Fulton had uh had an effect definitely um on everyone there and uh the last piece uh is earlier today we had a wonderful 10-year celebration big thank you uh to Mr Hanley and HR department who really um had a wonderful evening for all of our tenured administrators and uh teachers so again a special uh congratulations to all of them and a big thank you to Mr Hanley that is all I have for this section
of the agenda thank you Dr Farrelly statements West Babylon Teachers Association West Babylon administrators Association CSEA Representatives Student Association Representatives PTA Council Representatives residents on agenda items only thank you Dr Farrelly okay I'm going to switch up the order I'm going to have Mr Payne start us off um Mr Payne is going to provide us um with an atlas website overview I I don't even want to know I don't want to know I don't want to know what he said I don't I don't I don't want to know I'm gonna tell you yeah perfect thank you so tonight I'm going to give a quick overview of Atlas uh the board has seen this very briefly last year so I'm going to go over two parts of it before I start I want to thank Miss
taplin and Ms Dalton who are here and uh should anything go wrong I'll do a live audience intervention and bring them up so they're both experts in this and they've been tremendously helpful with the district uh getting used to this so there's two part to Atlas Atlas is our curriculum software it's called curriculum mapping software and you know probably the most visible part I'm going to do that first up here is the parent access so if you go to our website you go to curriculum and you go down to curricular Maps you pull up this screen and this talks a little bit about Atlas what it's for and the best part of the screen is this browse button which anyone can click on and you come to this filtering stage which really now you can
get any course you want in the district here and see what's known as a scope and sequence or a curricular map so we'll do uh I'll pick an elementary school anyone want to pick a Grade Three I'm taking a chance here so assuming they're all up uh grade three and browse see I told you there'd be audience participation so this and and secondary and elements you're a little different right so on the elementary level you you browse by grade because every teacher is certified to teach every subject on the secondary level we'll do something there where it's different because you want to go by actual subject area and look up courses that way but on the elementary level you go by a school which is every Elementary School you go by grade and here we
have the entire third grade Curriculum by subject so we can pick one uh we'll miss taplin's here if we do math is that safe all right you could say no in which case no one will they won't even bat an eye and this is what uh parents would see this is someone using our website you'd go up and get a scope and sequence uh for those of you that can see I know this is tough this is every single day of the school year going this way along the x-axis axis and then down here you can see every single subject that our students are learning about uh By the time in the year and about how much time they're spending on it these long bars are units and then the units are then broken up
for math right here into individual subunits or lessons is what they call an uh ready math you go through the whole year you get a quick look uh that takes us to June for the secondary I'll go back you want to go we'll do uh like high school I was going to do junior high I got to pull out Elementary um and I'll do uh Senior High School pick a grade 10th it is uh I'm am I doing great or subject yeah I already did it wrong so secondary because teachers are certified uh by subject I'm gonna go my subject area so don't pick a grade pick a subject okay we will do yep I'll get it don't worry my vision's perfect that's why I wear glasses all right so I'm going to browse from
here uh now going through this list um I would pick through ape oh this is AP Bio I'm not going to do that do I see a biology let's do bioh see if that's up there and you get the same thing again for elementary you do buy the grade level and for secondary you go by the subject area this is the only thing parents see right now and this is you know a big help if parent wants to see what am I what are my kids doing in December I go to the December section right here I drop down and they're studying ecology that's you know for approximately this time ban uh which lights up when you click on it from November 28th to December 25th ecology is being studied in living environment in this
particular case this is the honors class now this is a huge feature but we're looking to build on it so I'm going to take you into the uh the website itself as well as show you what teachers see and close this out hopefully I'm still signed in all right so one of the nice features of this besides obviously parents and students seeing where they are is that new teachers when they start here in West Babylon get access to this and you're going to see in just a few moments that they have access to everything being covered in their course to the depth that it was put in by our teachers and by our departments so I'm going to go up here still loading I'm going to do exactly what I did before I'm going to
browse I'm going to go to elementary and I'll do by did we do third grade last time all right and so now I as a teacher I see a lot more of what's going on behind the scenes these check marks imply courses that are up on the website and anything that's not checked or probably old courses that are still in e-school because this is linked directly to our student management system so I'll go in and pull out uh let's do did we do math last time Teresa uh here we go I'm gonna do math grade three and I'm going to see exactly the same scope and sequence except now these uh sections on the left are clickable so I can go into let's say uh in September which is three digit numbers place value add
and subtract and I could start to see the New York State Standards the next gen standards that are associated with this unit so as a new teacher it's a nice resource for them to go in and be able to see what's being done and then eventually all of our subjects will be populated with these unit uh curricular and assessment objectives essential questions and then eventually what content or skills are being covered in those units so subunits or lessons I'm talking two or three years down the line we can even put actual assessments up uh and individual lessons and learning activities as I go down this is more and more information now it's a lot of information but one of the things I want to show you uh for you know let's say a teacher or
even for an administrator and eventually for a parent because eventually this is all going to be accessible for parents as we get it up there uh we can go to reports I'm going to click on what's known as a unit calendar comparison I'm going to go to elementary school and let's say I'm going to obviously pick the same grade let's say I'm a teacher and I'm looking for what what are kids learning in other subject areas let's say for some reason it's departmentalized or I don't have access to every single curriculum so I want to see what they're doing in ela uh math and we'll do science all at the same time so I click browse and I go and submit it'll take a few moments and then I'll be able to to Really pair
down and see look in September uh for in this case uh for my Ela students are reading fiction uh they're doing some writing on the narrative board and then for in this case science they're also looking at weather and climate so maybe I want to do a writing assignment on weather and climate and tie some of these pieces together on the elementary level of obviously most of our subjects are taught together so it just shows parity on the secondary level for teachers you very rarely get to see exactly what other kids are doing at exactly the same time in order to pair our curriculum down and align it so from a horizontal alignment this is a phenomenal tool for teachers to have for parents we're not at this point yet but I expect by next
year we'll have this available for parents they can see every single material that their children are covering at every single block of time and then eventually want to vertically align right we want to see where are we covering the New York State Standards when whatever the standard may be and I want to search it out and get a map where it says I'm covering it in first grade we're going to recover You Know cover it again as part of a spiral review or as part of the New York state standards in grade four grade five grade eight and grade 12. we can get an alignment vertically as well as horizontally to see where our curriculum is we're a lot we're far from that right now but our goal I would say in two to three
years would be to have all this information up where you can search it by standard obviously by subject by grade and eventually by essential question or objective so with that yep so then in the next three years a parent could go on um a math class and see what their took what they're teaching in that math class will it get to be more finite like the first six weeks they're doing X and then the next six weeks they're doing why so that a parent could make sure that they're supporting it at home yeah it's a it's a great question Miss camposano because there's a fine line between curriculum and individual lessons right at some point individual lessons become the curriculum so one of the things we're working on them is taplin and stalton can attest
to this Miss Hoffman as well is getting teachers to really Pare down what's a unit let's say so so a three-month unit is a little big um a week maybe two weeks is what we tend to see units being a day or two really is just an individual lesson plan so it comes down to us as a district getting this down into bite-sized chunks so that parents can see that in a manageable way and it also recognizing that it's not it doesn't mean that every math teacher in grade nine will be exactly on the same topic every day right like there'll kind of be a ballpark but we understand that there's obviously nuances and different things that happen within the classroom where this classroom may require a little bit more pre-teaching or probably around like
there so there's there's going to be some you know kind of um it's not exact to write to the exact day which makes sense but that's why Mr Pink in everything he described he talked about blocks right blocks of time and periods of time right as opposed to kind of a October 13th everyone at right there's a difference there yeah but every every class every history class should it's some time or another be covering the same material right right okay and exactly what Dr Farley said she's 100 right if your teacher is three days off five days off doesn't matter 12 days off if you go to this Map and find that section you'll be approximately where you need to be you just might be a little to the left or to the right you
you had mentioned that this would eventually show lessons being used in the class but what if teachers aren't all using the same lesson to cover a specific topic I mean we do have some autonomy with the teachers being able to teach how they feel they can teach that subject the best or according to the curriculum I don't unless I'm missing I can't really see that too well but here you can't break it down by teacher so the lesson piece would be just for teachers if I imply that wouldn't be for parents right and it would be a resource for you as a teacher to go and say look I'm doing this lesson I I've done it this way I want to see how someone else does you had mentioned lessons and I thought it would
be crazy because right they don't have to be teaching the same exact right you know lesson okay would be an example they read certain amount of books they have to read but they don't all read the same books you know there is there is a curriculum I guess there are some books that they have to read right there are and again it's a fine line between the book you're reading and the curriculum itself because theoretically the book can be replaced and the concepts or the expectation should be the same should be the same okay sounds like a good program it is so this is a brief overview of course like I said right now just that scope and sequence is available for parents we're expecting next year to get into things like objectives and essential
questions for parents as well as the standards and then eventually there are tons of other features which I would say where every bit of two or three or more years out where we're getting resources for teachers and building into it obviously and I can't you know thank the staff uh the chair people the board of education for their support there's a lot of work that goes into this and it changes every single year you know each year we think we've got it as departments you know sometime in May every Department goes back to the drawing board and changes this to some extent 11 minutes all right that's it thank you now we've had the curriculum posted this is not new this is just a new way of doing it it's a new way of doing
it okay next one you know and Mr fellow you know great point right like we've had in terms of the PDF right documents where you know people can kind of can pull up this is now um more of an interactive web page right where we continue to build um from the lens of providing additional information right for families right and also on the flip side um the teacher access right and the admin access other supports there yep definitely all right so moving right along up there I'll bring my mic [Music] okay so we've moved to the uh setup here so anyone that talks is going to come up to the podium from here on out to just make it easier and let's see all right so um we are kind of back to normal right
um with regards to our presentations so if you recall a few years ago Mr Hanley and I um had a little song and dance little PD session in terms of um for our board this is really again to highlight a couple of things and of course also in terms of two um obviously our new trustees but in addition to our new trustees right to provide just some general awareness of how we do things in terms of you know from a governance you know uh lens so for everyone to know and of course our trustees are aware of this right um the board and the superintendent right we go hand in hand right we communicate often um they're probably Israeli a day that I don't send out an email to the board right we have Weekly
News and notes where I provide updates to the board of education on General District topics Finance operation curriculum instruction HR and capital project right of course obviously during emergency the emergencies the board is always notified from someone from our office right so the reason I emphasize that is because I think it's important for our community to know right that it's not that in terms of the Board of Education it's not the time during the board meeting right um yes obviously this is important in terms of board business but in addition to that there's ongoing communication that happens right during the week between the board and the superintendent we have a chain of communication which again our our community as well we're right in our uh board uh reinforces right whenever someone reaches out to them
if they have a question please follow the appropriate chain of communication uh we made that pretty easy right for our community where we created one document that has every administrator's email and phone number there right so they can you know Reach Out directly to the appropriate person um if there's a question or concern so Board of Ed meetings right just a general reminder right we have three types of Board of Education meetings regular board meetings uh this is a regular board meeting right we have special meetings when there's something that is an emergency and we need to quickly you know have a meeting I.E litigation right and then we have the legal requirement of a reorganization meeting that happens in July our agendas believe it or not are not required by law but it certainly
is a great practice I can't imagine a district not having an agenda in terms of the board meeting um but just interesting to know that those are not required by law um just like minutes right are also not required um by law public participation in comments not required by law also right a district can choose to allow public participation and public comments our district does permit public comments um and as part of that process we do have and these are recommended right with school boards Association that if you do have a public comments section that residents be referred to the appropriate person as per the chain of communication which let is what we do our presiding officer Mrs camposano does that um for the presiding officer to limit the time and limit the repetitiveness repetitiveness
that is part of school board's recommendation again that if you do have public comments right that you are always you always have these same standard operating procedures right for your board meetings and I was happy to see right that everything that they recommended that we already have in place in our district and that of course comments or questions with regards to a student or an employee not be allowed the open meetings law we always follow those we don't have to go through those here right um they're basically just about almost all all business right has to happen in public with the exception of personnel matters student specific matters litigation negotiations right things on those lines those happen within executive session um of course the board always considers a meeting agenda and location right and something
that they talked about um with regards to this is in terms of specifically location access right um there are some places some districts that have gotten into trouble right for not having appropriate access right so um in our case right if we didn't have a ramp right or something like that we have to ensure that we um have um that wherever we're having the location is appropriate right based on um you know possible needs that we may have now the piece which we've done beforehand that they talked a lot about this um during this meeting is that if there's a particular topic that is being discussed that you know that may draw a lot of people right um for the board to basically relocate right um to accommodate for the larger you know audience all
of which things and practices that we have had in place here just again General awareness again for preferred new trustees and our community members right there's a whole process that goes into a meeting right a board meeting um the agenda development happens we're building administrators right uh they submit their requests to um central office right central office being my three assistants and to myself there's a whole process obviously in place with regards to interviews and you know when a person is ultimately when I am recommending someone to the Board of Education we have multiple committees right that meet um and uh just conduct screening interviews then conduct a you know second set of interviews and ultimately then the finalists right um meet with Mr Hanley and I and I then ultimately recommend to the board
the top candidate right so there's a whole process which each one of those lines right that you see on a board of education agenda so the central admin team they make their recommendation to me I recommend to the board um these get added onto an agenda the board president or if the board president will not be at a meeting and the vice president right meets with me the Friday before the meeting or through a phone conversation or through email right to just have an awareness of what is on the agenda and the purpose of that is again as a presiding officer you want the presiding officer the presiding officer should know what is on the agenda right what is being um discussed um so that is what occurs the Friday before if additional items need
to be added after that kind of agenda meeting we typically send out an email to the board the board is again aware of this process um saying FYI we added the following on right um and of course over the weekend writing emails or calls right with regards to any questions so I just I think it's important for everyone to be aware of that right because even though there may not be questions here when Mrs campisano indicates oh you know consent right motion um to move the agenda forward there have been questions you know that have already occurred writer clarification um you know emails or phone calls with regards to different agenda items new business items they can certainly be adding at a meeting but it's certainly much better when if we just know ahead of
time just so that I need to pull a policy right or pull just general information for the board um I can do so for the board to make an informed decision or have an you know have a discussion uh and of course ultimately if the board is not in agreement with a recommendation um then the board May of course vote to pull it off the agenda right move it to another meeting or decline and not um you know vote for something that happens in terms of at the board meeting so in general we do have an agenda format right so for our trustees I mean take a look at that agenda you know if we want to amend that right let me know if it's been working fine right and I think we you know
we want to keep it as is we absolutely can do so but I just wanted to since I was talking about the agenda format right to bring that up that if that if there is anything that you kind of were already thinking about in terms of our agenda or general procedures please um you know reach out and we can add it to new business right as part of our discussion and amend accordingly executive session right again for our community members right it requires a majority vote for the board anyone to enter into executive session so anyone that was here beforehand right you heard this is campus Santa Paul for a motion um to enter into executive session and it was very specific right um we have to specifically indicate the reason why uh we would
be going into executive session um the time is not specific so we try to we're pretty close to in terms of the time because we're cognizant of anyone waiting here but the reality is that let's say the topic is discussed in 10 15 minutes the board has every right to then come out right and continue and start the regular board meeting again we try to kind of keep it pretty close because we you know recognize that that's you know around that time is when everyone is kind of tuning in for the official start uh the only type of vote really that happens in an executive session is if we are going to if we're looking at uh pressing charges against a tenured staff member right with regards to 3020a all other votes right happen in
public session the audit committee actually want to bring this up to miss camposano Mr Powell because we were kind of brainstorming about this the other day as a result of just a conversation um with a colleague about what happens in other districts it turns out that the audit committee May conduct an executive session um in order to um so the audit committee is our whole board right remember during our last meeting we had our external Auditors right so that is permissible and allowed to happen right an executive session that was confirmed at this um training that um Miss Jalen peretta and I attended a week or so ago of course obviously uh executive session everything we discussed in executive session is confidential right any disclosure of confidential information from exact could lead to a board
member's removal um during our meeting there were a lot of there were court cases that were discussed in which that did in fact happen particularly when it had to do with negotiations uh where removal did not happen was if that particular board did not act in accordance with the open meetings law and the discussion had to do with a topic that was not an executive session topic right in those cases then there was an aboard removal because technically it shouldn't have even been to discuss an executive session to begin with um all right so participation time you ready okay let's see Jalen you can't answer because you were part of this school gym where the board meetings are usually held got flooded after a pipe broke and the meeting was uh set to be to
happen in about 24 hours the board decides to move to the move the location to the second floor of the local Town fire station uh because it has a really large room that fits about 300 people there are no elevators only stairs to get there is this room proper yes because it's big enough yes because it's an emergency meeting no because it's not accessible to the disabled that's right not acceptable hey this counts as your pdrs come on work with me here okay a member of the public brings in a sign saying that Bobby got caught selling something inappropriate why did he only get suspended for a week special treatment for the quarterback huh the sign is five feet by five feet can the school board have the sign or the person removed absolutely definitely
yeah a resident is angry at the visitor process established at all buildings he doesn't want to show ID he begins to raise his voice and yell at the superintendent of schools during his statement um he refuses to lower his voice after repeated defenses can we have the person removed yes yes absolutely uh let's see this is a good one members of the public get up to the podium to praise the elementary school principal the next person in line discusses how he hates the same elementary school principle that was just referenced the board president stops the person from saying the negative things about the principal is this allowed yes because of privacy concerns yes because the board can decide what can be said in public nope because restrictions have to be neutral and you cannot allow
both praise but not negatively not allow the negative on the same issue of discussion nope because the board can't set limits on public comments your training come on let's hear it exactly that's what it comes down to right like we can't deload even it's uh the nicey nice um you know like we nothing specific about uh an employee right even if it's a nice comment because once you open that door right then you're in muddy territory yes absolutely you can't allow either comment okay board meets to decide at a restaurant meets at a restaurant to discuss potentially adding turf fields everywhere I I obviously changed some of the topics that the board has a total of seven board members and four show up at the restaurant while eating they discuss the addition of turf fields
everywhere was this meeting subject to open meetings law yes yes because there's a quorum of the board yes because there's a discussion about board business yes because there is a quorum and a discussion about board business exactly board business and decorum big no-go across the board so there were a slew of these so um Jalen and I spent a lovely day um on um many different topics this topic was just one of several topics discussed um I will share my brain was exploding at different times going hope you're taking notes I just totally missed that part of it um I made a copy of this section of the agenda because I thought it was you know again obviously pertains to us specifically right with regards to our board meetings I'll share that with the board
but I thought it would be good to just kind of highlight a couple of those um and of course and it was nice to kind of also get clarification on the audit external audit question that we had any thoughts questions topics that you would like us to look into please let me know I will turn over the mic now brace yourself oh wait not yet sorry you'll have Mr Hanley soon uh Board of Education presentations as you know right we plan out our presentations for the year right and the board has seen this I shared a document with you back in July um all of the presentations that we have planned for this year some of these have already taken place um dsip already happened Atlas website that was tonight with Mr Payne um so
all these are occurring today but of course um any of our trustees or there's a particular topic that you would like us to present please do not hesitate to reach out and we will add it to the schedule purchasing process this is particularly important for our new trustees right if there is a workshop right school boards presentations school boards there's a lot of different workshops and webinars that you would like to attend please do not hesitate um to reach out right reach out to Jalen she will sign you up I we just ask that you do so at least two weeks if there is a cost associated with that there is a whole process that we have to go through right with regards to the business office or requisition um so please just reach out
to Jalen and of course always hold on to that certificate of attendance right because that is needed um back to Circle back around to the business office that they then can pay you know the invoice when we receive those so just um a a reminder that if there's something of interest that you would like to attend to please reach out to Julian so she can sign you up and second to remind you of the procedural process there um particularly the notice there um we're not being pains when we're going you know like double triple checking in terms of times it really is because there's a timeline associated with this whole process of attending a conference and there's also quite a process of canceling um when not attending some general information right student enrollment by New
York State subgroups this year so this is our these are our students right K to two so by grade level grade level bands I should say k to two through to five six eight obviously and then the last wrote here right is district-wide and it breaks it up ultimately by the designated subgroups in New York Hispanic you see them all the way across to multiracial and then you see the percentage breakdown on the bottom this is New York state this is our school district yep this is taking a look at our student enrollment right um broken down by ethnicity this is our student enrollment broken down but again students with 504 plans right accommodation plans students with disabilities and our lab students English limited English proficiency and you see the percentage 12 on the bottom
yes what's the what's the Statewide average of students with disabilities um I am not sure but I can look into that with the Statewide averages I'm not sure I don't know if install to know I don't know we'll I'll take a look at that and I'll share that with the with the board I will share with you that where the state would like to see districts at is lower than 18 right yeah yeah we are much higher believe now they're like 12 13 yeah yeah so this is our students with disabilities data right again by grade band um when we talk about um you know our least restrictive or you know special education programs right within District we have research room the inclusion setting or the integrated setting right our Serpentine programs in District here
right and out of District right here so you're seeing here the Total Resource from students again and you see them by grade band vast majority of our students that are classified as having a disability and are receiving special education program you know um that are in a particular program right are in our integrated setting yes all the IEPs to see that the services are appropriate whether they're getting enough or if they're getting issues on yeah so legally right we are required to have annual review meetings right um with the entire team right the students parent or Guardian the classroom teacher the special education teacher generally depending on kind of the level or what um is going on if it's a sub CSC meeting or general or CSE meeting either the director of student services is
the chairperson or maybe the psychologist is the chairperson for the meeting so those meetings happen annually to talk about how the student is doing right depending on where they're at there may be a reevaluation that happens right and that reevaluation um is discussed during that meeting in addition to how the student is performing and then they talk about what programs does the child need next year um the Z or she need more restrictive uh or maybe less restrictive right um what about the accommodations more last a little different right what what does the child need to level up the playing field for the following year yep economically disadvantaged student data this is listed by building so you can see District wide we're looking at 31 of course I like Mr Payne can see perfectly fine
these glasses um these schools as we've talked about beforehand writers how to run schools and a big thank you to Mr Payne and Miss Dalton for putting together these charts for me okay now I'm turning the mic over Mr Hanley good evening so that gentleman right over there at the end of tonight we'll be uh answering 13 questions or 12 questions when it comes to the uh harassment quiz so get ready Mr Bank all right so I have the the dubious honor of following Dr Farley which will no nowhere be uh as good as hers so we'll start with the employee data every two weeks this data does change so uh wbta members 390 wbta members number includes teachers ta psychologists social workers guidance counselors uh therapists um that inclusive uh guidance counselors I'm sorry
therapist speech pts OTS and coders um csca we have 220 CSEA members that includes a bus driver's monitors clerical custodians maintenance mechanics and Food Service workers we have roughly 40 security guards that includes our permanent and per diem substitute guards building Administration we have 10 building administrators and principals assistant principals and then if you focus on Central Services Administration we have 15 that's inclusive of four Central administrators and uh all of our directors and then power professionals roughly 200 109 paraprofessionals working in one-to-one classroom hallway office recess and cafeteria locations you are required to look at some of the policies uh particularly code of ethics code of conduct and sexual harassment so previously Miss perrotta has provided you these policies and you had to sign an acknowledgment form that you reviewed and had an opportunity
to review those and you would sign a form acknowledging that so tonight we are going to focus a little bit more on one particular policy but please note you already reviewed code of ethics policy 2160 and then 2160 Dash e.2 which is the exhibit code of conduct which is policy number 5300 and then tonight we're going to spend a little bit more time on sexual harassment policy zero one zero point two and then the exhibit and the regulations so what is sexual harassment pretty straightforward it's a harassment in the form of sex discrimination is unlawful under federal state and local law sexual harassment includes harassment on the basis of sex sexual orientations self-identified or perceived sex gender expression gender identity and the status to being a transgender what does the harassment include well it's any
unwelcome conduct which is either of sexual nature which is directed at an individual because of the individual sex that conduct can be unreasonably interfering with their individual work performance or creating a uncomfortable workplace environment this is clearly if the reporting individual is not the intended target of this actual harassment such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly in term or condition of employment and or submission to or rejection of such conduct is used as the basis for employment of decisions uh affecting an individual's employment so sexually harassing hostile work environment includes but it's not limited to word signs jokes pranks intimidation physical violence any type of uh comment relating to that of a sexual nature it also occurs when a person Authority trades job benefits or for sexual favors uh or any unwanted verbal and
or physical advances explicitly derogatory statements made in the form of email verbal physical and or social media so some of those foreign some of those comments can be made as I said but those particularly ones that have an impact on an individual job performance is where it does come into a really uh hostile work environment partition patient time so each one of you had a quiz that you should have looked at prior to uh this evening it's about 12 questions and Mr Payne will answer for them when we go over those quiz questions so Mr Payne you ready yeah okay we're not going to go through Mr Bain just wanted you to make sure you were paying attention so if you flip over that quiz the answers are there in case you didn't know so
what I would like you to do is take a moment I know I know I know but what it is is we could have traded papers to see how well we answered those but that's not what our goal is our goal is to self-reflect to see which one of those questions may have stumped you and that is the question that I would like to have a further Dialogue on did any question stand out to you that you thought you maybe twice about whether it be true or false some of them are very straightforward I would like to highlight number six I think that's important so sexual harassment's not limited to physical contact everyone always might feel the need that um sexual harassment has to take the shape of some sort of form of physical contact
that's clearly not true um verbal and or social media and email are playing even more of a major role in that and that's something that we have to be aware particularly when you send a text message or an email or any type of social media text your intended message may not be the message that you really are sending and the person who's reading it on the other end is interpreting that message in a clearly different format unfortunately that does happen a lot just think about it in the normal facts of your own life when somebody sends a text message you say to yourself why would they be angry at what I just said I don't understand that and you're you're implicitly saying that they that they may be angry at you and they wrote a
text message you that is totally contrary to that fact but the way it was worded you interpreted that text message that's completely different with the what the intent was made for that's the exact same thing that happens between employees sometimes when it comes to email and or when they send each other uh work related text messages and or if they send a or if they put out some sort of social media post these are areas that we have to be mindful of so again turning it over to you to um open up any dialogue we will go over a few questions but if you would like to just discuss a particular question that made you think twice 13. it was 13. so 13 I'm sorry 12. I took 13 off [Laughter] so 13 had to
deal with if I'm not mistaken it was more of the legal aspect of it which I'm surprised by number one I thought it was true which one number one number one sexual harassment complaints are generally false and unjustified that's that's not right that they were you know a lot of stupid ones number 11. in order for it to determined sexual harassment the victim has to be the opposite sex of the harasser that is not true no so that's wrong yeah yeah so you're wrong no no so the the numbers were switched on that so that's my apology yeah what's going on this thing there were two questions removed so I do apologize some of the answers may be wrong towards the end so that's why this is a dialogue and not not but not believe
everything that's written so any additional questions regarding the answers that may be not accurate and number 11 on um you are never going to live this down yeah I know yeah I get it so number two though is a question that comes up at an employee Witnesses and they've employed being harassed even though this does this involved A co-worker the witness can be considered a victim in this case and they would say well I was just there I was a bystander I was not even participating but if I go to prison during the incident they can be perceived as a victim yes are you sure because yes the difference there's a different answer on the back okay so no that is true all right uh first of the four sequels are positive I think right
that's right the question regarding this all right so with that said thank you for your time commitment and support disregard my little scribbles you'll see kind of little notes to myself talk to Lucy about this right um the different areas um and I just thought it would be good for everyone to take a look at it's a quick it's a quick read in terms of present feelings um thank you sir you know what I'll take you to that right that's it this is Tampa oh that's it yep okay I need a motion to approve the consent agenda no no no no all those in favor on this side but we'll go to favor on this side the consent agenda okay um to wage change right yes Association they do a shred-a-thon every year it's a
two-hour event and the man who has the truck he's not sure okay yes we're waving the fee for Alumni Association to add that insurance right to their insurance yes I asked that question yeah that's so bad so it was a good job wasn't available in shredding somebody else Okay so any other questions and I need a motion to approve it it was like somebody else has a question okay so Kathy moved it Roseanne second it all those in favor that's everyone thank you no policy no old business no new business statements of residence just came to see us we came to visit nobody I need a motion to adjourn Chris Matt all those in favor it's everyone thank you have a good night everyone
