002new app on august 1st it looks very well thought out and i hope everyone had a chance to download it and check it out i'm looking at our agenda this evening interviewing and hiring are in full swing in the district as is normal this time of year and i'd like to thank all of our admin and staff for their hard work in the recruiting interviewing and vetting of our 30 plus new personnel our summer school sessions are going great they will be finishing up in the next couple weeks and i think that's all i have to share this evening so the next um section of the agenda is public comments we're going to move that just to um approve our personnel which many of them are here tonight so we're going to move public comments

010is time set aside for the community to speak directly to the board of education each speaker is given three minutes with the total allotted time to last no more than 30 minutes when called please step up the podium and state your name and address please be respectful in your comments and do not divulge any personal confidential information the information shared will be carefully considered and the appropriate person will contact you if you'd like to be contacted please leave your information with the district clerk so i welcome our community members to come up to the podium would anyone like to speak so i'm lisa weaver and these are some of my soccer boys some of them seniors a junior you've all seen my emails and kind of how i feel about how things are going on
011i wanted to bring some of the boys to put a face to the kids who stood up for what they believed in and that if it's unacceptable for a teacher to verbally abuse a student in the classroom why is it okay on field why do they why is it okay on a soccer pitch for somebody to belittle and embarrass these boys because your temper can't be controlled or in the case of an immigrant student say things that were beyond inappropriate and unacceptable to single him out because of his country of origin i find beyond beyond offensive and frankly sickening no kid should ever go to school and have to feel like that um nor should a group of boys have to come together to stand up at 16 and 17 years old to try and
012get what they believe in which is not being abused on a soccer pitch these kids have been playing since four or five years old they've been playing together for years this is 13 boys that you're choosing a verbally abusive teacher over is you know if he continues to coach that's what it is it's you know and what is that showing them truly um they can attest to the things that they've heard not jake jake's losing out because all the kids that he plays with he goes to east that he would now get to play with that he plays in his travel team in fact they're going to be late if they don't get out of here soon um because they're not going to play with them and he's an amazing heat this is a kid
013who could have a college career but won't have a team in front of him to help him do that he is amazing at what he does and he's not getting that opportunity because he's not going to have 12 season players standing in front of him you know that he's used to playing with these boys are missing out um i mean they're standing up for what they believe in and i get it they believe in not being verbally abused i'm hard-pressed to get them to say anything they're going to stand here and smile they're all like please don't make me speak um they have spoken up they have said they've met with marissa and said how they feel as well as the parents um mike roberts um where's your dad over here oh he was right
014behind you um jake's dad you know they've all spoken up we support these boys in what they're doing we believe in what they're doing um they're learning now that they need to be the change that they want to see um they want to see change they don't want the kids coming up behind them to feel like they felt standing on that field while parents from other teams actually laughed while they were ridiculed so um these are my boys i love my boys when i referenced in that letter my loved ones every one of them is my loved one one is my son but these are my boys and i will fight for my boys to deduct and i love my boys and i'm gonna miss him terribly and i am heartbroken that i don't get
015to watch them play in the fall if the district moves forward i have heartbroken because i have loved watching them play together i'm not going to miss it thank you for your time thank you for coming thank you appreciate you taking the time yeah you have a game to get to you got them at the beginning when anyone likes else like to come on let's see thank you mr robert yeah hi i'm michael roberts uh 54 rentals uh i am uh i've been involved with west seneca uh the school soccer since 2011 with my older son nathan and uh over the past couple of years my other son here luke he's now involved uh as lisa weaver mentioned i'm a i've been i'm currently their assistant coach for their summer travel league i've been a
016head coach from different variations of the team i've seen some of the boys come and go and right now we have approximately there's 13 boys that are involved and most of them i won't say all of them but most of them are not going to return they're not going to bother trying out if the varsity coach from last year is still the coach there because of what mrs weaver talked about you see it in the emails with the bullying on the field during the games during practices the undressing of their uniforms at the end of the game last game of the season on the road uh it's just come to that conclusion where most of the boys and most of the parents they're just fed up with it i'm giving you my honest opinion here
017i don't want luke to play for the coach right now but it is his choice because every one of these boys choices the five four or five that are here 13 in total whatever's gonna play it's up to them and luke knows that and we talked about that he loves soccer but it's just if the coach is still there in the fall they will not win a game they will not tie a game they will lose every game 12 nothing 14 of them they will get their heads kicked in if we have a different coach they'll probably only win one or two games but they will have that joy on the field of having that grouped together because a perceived bully is not there in my opinion you don't have any questions for me thank

022can't really purchase it's hard to purchase a vehicle these buses would make great work trucks um is that what this position means that we're dispensing them from buses or can we just i think i think it means we're taking them from transporting regularly students you know i don't know what they're doing we're retiring them from the regular routes yeah but uh they're so advisorette is not here to speak on that is are any of our assistant superintendents aware of what happens with classes otherwise we can we can we can table it and talk about it at the next meeting i mean i'm okay obviously we're leaving the table um um we need them to clear a surplus there are better ones that we will not be selling off we are looking to repurchase repurpose one
023for reading rover yeah so we have to do a bunch of work first okay so these are actually disposed of buses they're like ones that can't be used safely i believe they won't pass the teams okay that's that's all i know about transportation of students i'm good for kids yeah but they they could take supplies around you know there is a plan in place to use some old buses at some point right all right yeah okay but i'm fine so we are not tabling we are voting okay so hey are we replacing danny with electric too early we don't have the infrastructure here yeah there's a lot of infrastructure to be built before oh actually so my my printout missed a couple of them l there's actually m and n as well i apologize my

027jen i will have um mr feister okay so [Music] the last thing is uh board of ed discussion well we can talk a little bit about our liaison positions and we can talk a little bit about the consent agenda that i had suggested um i'll start with there's something everyone should have a picture on their phone if they want to look at it of the current liaison yeah that was all me thank you not really it was just clear thank you i just haven't had my phone on so has any of them changed [Music] um there were some changes there were new committees made and there were some combining of committees yes yes i the only thing i wanted to ask and it's not let me find it so where where exactly can we find
028the new liaisons aren't they i'm there i'm the screen the 2022-2023 column i i don't know if that helps okay as long as they do you put you on the boring committees because you're not here no i'm kidding okay well as long as you have yeah yeah i can just check to see we actually put you on the committees you requested diane and there were a few blank ones that we thought we would ask if you wouldn't mind being on them so i have a question to our board we have liaisons for community education athletics and sports boosters and band boosters my thoughts are do we need these committees do we need to spend our board time attending these what is what have they included in the past band boosters and athletic boosters they're that's
029their own money that's their own group we love them we appreciate their work but it's not really board work so i was just opening it up to board members to see how they felt about dissolving those three committees well um yeah i mean the communities have existed since i've been here but we've never no one's ever done any reports on them i know as a non i don't know i went i wasn't on the committee last year but i did attend all the sports boosters meetings except for one um and i found myself being um i found it be great being in the room talking with the parents and being able to communicate there's no one representing the district in the room typically i don't think marissa can attend everyone um i only went because
030my kid is in sports mom i know i attended the band ones with my kids in band i'm sure you do that so i don't know if we need a board committee to report on it but i do think that we should try to attend some of them you know i mean even if it's you know some but i don't know how it worked before i was on the board but we've never done presentations back to the board on it before so no question is what is the what what is the purpose of right the commitment so they have their organization right we have the right as board members are just parents community members to attend the meeting right we're always asking for people to attend the meetings so what is the purpose of our
031role on any of these committees well you know i think that's a larger question that needs to be asked i think you're right to look at these review the committees and and evaluate whether they should exist and what is the purpose if nobody's returning back reporting out to the board or nothing to report then what is the point well vince they've always appreciated that we're interested in them and that we're interested in in their activities and i've i've sat with them many times in the years and they they just appreciate that we're there that we know their concerns and uh to me it's it's a good pr thing it really is but they appear but you know they were pretty effective in our getting the refreshment stand and all that type of thing and we
032were debating all that and uh they were pretty effective we knew how how they felt about it and i think it was it was profitable to show a friendly face okay okay and and with their chicken barbecues you know and all of them they do a lot of good things yes they do we love them and we appreciate you know yeah i don't want to share a different perspective well i can tell you that if i was on that committee i would report back after each meeting to the board what went on at the meeting um that's what i would expect the person the people who go that's what i would like them to do that's my idea but mostly that is the idea for all of these kids just depends on whether we want
033to have it or not i guess many committees that is the concern here we have i'm not on that whole document worth of committees and we are stretched in as board members this is all volunteer time i just wanted to consolidate it to the important work that we needed to do as a board okay so i want to add that becomes forced to be on it so the people that are on it if they want to be on it does it hurt anyone it doesn't right but if we want to get rid of it and just say hey if you go to a meeting and you want to report back to the board you're welcome i mean that's completely our you know discretion it doesn't need to be official but i would be shocked if
034a board member wasn't at most of meetings because of all you know i mean jan you love knowing right what you love going oh yeah yeah sure well just depends we need to make an official category yeah you know i enjoy going and watching wes play yeah rather than a committee because we really we did not get any information regarding those last year no so our meetings aren't wrong yeah when i and i can defend east on that they they only met once and it was right at the end of the year um and i know maybe maybe the people that were on the committee um this is probably where i failed jan because i told you i would go in your place a few times i probably should have done something and i apologize
035um so but it's completely i support either decision i think we're going to be there and i know a number of years back um when i was president i made a forum that you know what committee did you go to who else was at the committee and what did you discuss and things like that and then coveted it went to the wayside so maybe we can reinstitute that you know and then that would just be emailed to the other board members so you know what's going on i know i was on the safety committee last year and so i reported back and then that's when we did the policy changes because of things that were brought up at the safety committee so i think you know sometimes action can be taken down the line from
036what's brought up and that's that's where i would like personally i know to go off into a larger thing here whoever if there's three people on the committee i think one person should be the the the person in charge of making sure there's communication so you're not getting reports from like diane did the safety one so i didn't um right you know like i wasn't gonna report back the same thing diane said but if diane couldn't make it she sure has made sure i was gonna be there um we would communicate before each meeting to make sure it was covered one way or the other so um that's you know it depends on how much effort we want to put into each one okay well that's true with the legislative committee diane you know if
037i wasn't there she said alternate she would go that's good but no one's going to get hurt if we don't have it as an official committee either so it depends on what you yeah well i also think that the larger conversation was there were new committees this year and that were put before us during the reorg and most of us didn't really understand specifically what that committee entailed yeah and so yeah so when you look if you look to to like niciba and what a board committee should be there should be a purpose right and and some only meet once or twice the audit committee only meets a couple times a year right but that was very important to establish that right that's that's what that's all about by law i have a point of
038clarification yeah so when i again over the years when i've been on the board these have been board liaisons two district committees these were not board committees so we've kind of like if if we like so like the district had the safety committee diane and i were the liaisons for the board whereas if the board has a safety committee that would be board members and who we choose so i also don't know if we've kind of melded into two like like where you know what i mean it's kind of muddled now because is it is it a board is it you know and i think we worked on this with another when we talked about forming committee last year and i said we can eat whenever we want invite whoever we want and then go
039to the district committee and talk to them like if we want to have a committee on making sure kids you know attend whatever the board can form any committee they want um and then but this i think these were original liaisons to everyone at the district level right and so it may have become a little clouded that way it's clouded but there are so many committees and that is the larger conversation is that i just wanted us to focus on our i think some of the committees seems like what those are things that we would be working on as a board during our work sessions right so enrollment enrollment is a committee but it's a topic of that we're continuously reviewing and discussing because it drives so much right budget and finance necessary tightly yeah
040that's that's work that's done during work session we're not meeting outside of the board to discuss these topics correct well these are our things to discuss and we're we're saying that we're kind of well so that's why i think that i think that's that's why this is confusing because these committees were district committees that matt was inviting the board to and they have liaisons for i don't think we've even formed any board committees have we no we have a policy committee yeah okay great yeah so we have one i also need to mention that new york state department of education is requiring us to have a diversity equity and inclusion committee right that needs a board member what are the district to have it with a board member or the board to have it the
041board a visited board is it the board or is it the district i thought it was a district district with a board member yeah so i think that's where like basically and again i'm not going to speak for matt and i believe there's if there's an administrator here that wants to speak up like the enrollment committee has made up a whole bunch of people and these are the liaisons the board liaisons to that committee because i mean we with the board should probably have a budget committee right we do have a bunch of the finance committees okay perfect yeah we need to meet yeah and there's three three or s board members on it but they can have other members that aren't board members involved kind of like our um pizza committee right yeah oh
042that was a board committee wasn't it that was yeah but that would be rolled into another committee yeah so some of these are changing i feel like more discussion needs to be had about this yeah and can i just this is kind of a question that i guess i'd like relate to matt is the new committees that he brought forth are we meeting before the board meeting like okay so during those work sessions but they are just three board members they cannot be four otherwise it has to be live streamed okay so that would be a little difficult i'm sorry that might be a little hard too since some of us are not yeah okay we need more discussion on this so um yeah please look this over i just want to throw one thing
043for consideration now i know you like you're looking to shrink it down um capital projects and facilities um i i i would like this to consider in the future like having it separate because it's just it's a lot it's two completely different aspects of it and i personally um i personally want to be involved in it i don't mind if i'm not though but i think it should be too because facilities is everything capital projects capital project last year there was a lot of capital project stuff i had to be involved in facilities didn't even exist and it took a lot of my time so i think if we have kind of split up a little we can we can conquer that more just throwing it out there i don't i'm not gonna get mad
044if i'm not well i would say this that facilities should be constantly discussed where we are and our current state and capital improvements should be okay where are we going so one drive again one drives the other well so who's my question is who else is part of these committees other than the board members so if you have a if you have a uh facilities and building are capital improvement excuse me then obviously you need three board members who are going to meet with mr farr mr dale and and part of that is going to be you need enrollment numbers to have that conversation so like these things are all very intertwined yeah so i think they're we do need to have a deeper conversation on how all this works together we can discuss that
045at our retreat because committees will be covered you know the purpose of committees the goal of committees will be covered in there so we can have a further discussion and i think too like for all these liaisons there should be a description yes what is this expected of you right if you're on this committee or this committee or this committee and nicole and i were working on that actually nicole created google docs for many of the committees okay so great yeah and i think that that would clarify a lot of what we're talking about now too but vince brings up a good point like we need to understand who else is going to be on those what's the purpose i mean i think the purpose you know can be pretty easily defined but then so
046how they work with one another like what comes first so we're going to talk about enrollment isn't reenvisioning about redistricting okay so if we're talking about if we've got re-envisioning isn't that driven by enrollment yes and isn't driven by facilities how large our buildings are how large classrooms are how many students we can fit in there so it seems to me there's a lot of crossover and if you're separating people and saying okay you're going to this community to talk about this topic which has a direct impact on this committee and this topic it just seems we need to kind of sort all that out okay yeah it shows in the past these were the amounts of communities that existed already so if we're changing it i mean capital improvement last year every time the
047architects came in to meet with people it was part of um like uh how do you explain that what were those called the meetings we looked at the plans and the discussion as to you know improvements to the plans and all of that yeah the capital improvement project wasn't about anything different it was the architecture coming to meet with the people like all the art teachers at east but it's definitely beneficial having the liaisons all right moving on does anyone else have anything they'd like to discuss are we tabling that well this do you want to talk about a voting delegate oh yes i'm sorry i don't know actually would anybody like to be on the diversity equity and inclusion committee any of our board members is anybody interested in sitting on that commitment i
048would be interested it's just um like at this point i'm just feeling a little bit overwhelmed by the amount but if we can kind of streamline and um give me one sec okay i'm just looking at that or if you needed somebody and i'm retired i'm available so i will be on the committee just to bring the information back yeah to the board i would do that and then we also need a voting delegate for nisba um it'll be a saturday in syracuse it's actually virtual so they're going to do it virtual yes they are okay so would anybody be interested in that that'll be that it's a long process interesting to see the resolutions that come out of districts that was already due they make those yeah i did it twice yeah jody no
049i'm just kidding she's not here okay i will i'll take that one okay it'll be my first year so then i can pawn it off okay you're allergic to that one um one other thing i wanted to bring to the board was the idea of a consent agenda and that i apologize this is just the point of ordering do we need to table number seven on finished business we do not the board of education liaisons no we do not you can just really skip over there i'll shut up so if you wanted to bring out here um nicole did a printout of consent agenda so because we're moving to monthly meetings and our agendas are going to be full i thought that we could consider a consent agenda and there was a little write-up here
050that i got i received from nisba regarding it and items would be placed and voted in a single motion with no discussion and some of them would be committee meeting minutes um cse recommendations personnel items routine changes minor changes so it's not the whole agenda it's not the whole agenda no it just streamlines okay so that's my ignorance [Music] and make sure you know yeah i apologize i i took it as the entire agenda which is gonna pass so i take back my thought on that okay 100 love it okay so in a case where there are pieces within an item yeah you can ask to have those filled out yes very easily too it doesn't have prior no you could do it prior to the meeting and then we can move it on the

053ones i do request them okay when we did do it um i would ask um if maybe we can even consider this as a board policy but we can approach it any way we want often once or twice a week we receive uh update an official update from matt and what i love i love what you did with your updates liz um i think we've had a couple or three so far um they're great uh one problem i had last year was if i didn't hear from a board member wrongfully in my mind i thought okay they must have read and they're fine with it a lot of times what i found out is that board member may not be able to get to their emails as quick as others so what i'm asking the

055it and there was a text that went out about filling out a survey i replied directly to liz i got it because jan doesn't care whether i got the text or not she just cares that she got it so just that's what i'm kind of i don't know if it's got to be a policy or if it could be a gentleman's agreement yeah so yeah if i i would love it if people replied and said hey thanks liz i read it i mean but if you don't i assume you did my well that's and that's where we get into problems is if you assume i read it and then right before a board meeting i'm oh my god what is that like it's it's my own fault for not reading it but it still throws
