001Good evening everyone. I'd like to come in to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you everyone. Uh now we anticipated an executive session at this time. Um announcements. >> Yes. >> For anyone listening on the live stream and anyone here trying to follow along. Board doctor is currently down right now. So you can follow along >> and Karen will be unable to attend this. Uh, student highlights. because Miss Garrett and Mr. Blair are here to present and they can't stay here. It should be the senior trip slide down. There we go. >> Perfect. >> Where am I going? >> Okay. Tell me where >> 360. >> So um we are planning um well
002we have planned the senior trip uh to go to Disney next year. Um and we're very very excited. Families are very excited. Um we have some details. This is just information about what is included uh in the trip and the overall um approximate cost. Things um may shift just slightly uh from these numbers from that number there only based on room occupancy um and just final details but that is the um planned cost for four people per room four students at at a time. It comes with everything. We are looking at three days in the park. Uh, one day at each end for travel purposes. Um, comes with two meals a day. So, we plan on doing, you know, like a on the-go breakfast kind of thing. And then, but in the park, they'll be
003able to have lunch and dinner. Um, so, and it also includes the transfer to and from the airport. So, we will be flying because that was usually a big hurdle when it came to doing Disney over the past few years was the transport. So, we'll be flying this year. Um, >> I like that you called the chance of details. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> So, um, the plan trip is going to be February 2nd through the 6th of 2027. Um and we have our itinerary here. Mr. Blair can give you a little bit more details about the idea of what we're planning for that. >> Sure. Uh so we arrive on the 2nd. Um kids will have some time to spend at the resort and then go down to Disney Springs which is their shopping
004district. Um get some of their you know souvenir shopping out of the way early and then we're going to be up bright and early because well we do Disney hardcore. um rope drop to what they call the kiss good night is where the the castle flashes and that's when it's time to get out. So, uh we're going to be starting off at the Magic Kingdom. Uh from there we'll go over to Epcot and then our last day will be at Hollywood Studios. We're not going to be doing the Animal Kingdom um primarily because that is completely under construction right now. There's just not enough to go and do for the price. So, and then we come back on Saturday. That is our trip. Very excited about this. >> So, we have um there were some
005things that uh we've done, fundraising opportunities. There has been a lot of activity. Um there's been several fundraisers. The kids really uh stepped it up this year because they're very excited to go. Um we actually just completed um our last fundraiser. We have cookie dough. You can see Mrs. Craft over here received one. Um the kids were very um so they've raised quite a bit of money already so far and we have some upcoming opportunities that we have planned already over the summer and next year. Um so we're looking ahead at all of that. Uh we have some students that um have already almost completely earned their entire trip. So they are really really excited about this opportunity to go. Um the next one. Um so we have um some things that you guys were
006looking for in terms of uh the travel arrangements and you know safety supervision. Um we are going to have four chaperones. We actually have 32 students officially registered today uh to go. They have completed all their paperwork to get us started and um done their initial deposits and they are ready. So we're very excited about that. We have four chaperones. Um Mr. Blair and I uh Dr. Snider will be one and um we just uh secured a full pole is um the students requested her actually to attend with us. So we have a good mix going on the trip to oversee the kids. Um and we'll be working out the details of who's going to be rooming, um what groups they're going to be in. We're going to try and keep those uh roommate groups
007together to make sure that we keep the buddy system intact. Um, every group will be assigned to a specific shaper around and we will all work together to make sure that everybody stays accounted for and stays safe. Um, so we will have regular room checks every evening. We will be taping the rooms shut to ensure that no late night shenanigans occur. Um, and uh, Disney also has their own on-site security to make sure that everybody stays safe as well. Excellent. >> Uh so our behavior expectations follow along with everything else that we've always had within our district. Uh supervision. Uh we'll be following all directions. They're allowed to follow all directions from our trip supervisors and shepherds at all times. Uh we will have the buddy system. Um so you're never allowed to go off
008by yourself. Uh that includes um going back to the resort. You are not allowed to go back to the resort unless you're being accompanied by an adult. um procedures. We're going to be following all curfew supervision procedures uh without exception of this. Um there is no room for negotiations. Uh respect. We need to make sure that we're not only respectful to our peers and our staff, but also to the other guests and the cast members in Disney as well. Uh park rules. This is I joked about the other night. This is the one that my wife really wants us to make sure of because my wife loves Disney more than she loves me. Okay. And she said, "Do not do anything to embarrass her." So, we are going to be following the park rules very,
009very closely because she said that she will divorce me if we don't. Um, so make sure we have all the park rules and our conduct is avoiding our unsafe behavior, using appropriate language, decision- making. After all, we are ambassadors of our district. We want to make sure that we are always showing ourselves where we should be. Um so we will make sure that communication um especially between the families that are at home and while we are away is um we're going to have all emergency contacts. Um we will have all of the health uh necessary health forms documentation for any medications. All of that will happen while we are away. We are encouraging uh families and students they will the students will be allowed to have their cell phones as needed. Um we are encouraging
010them not to be posting where we are at the time. Um they can post when they return. It's for just safety purposes, but to communicate with parents at home. We are encouraging them to use the WhatsApp group. They'll be able to share pictures back and forth with their families. We'll make sure to post the actual group of that once it's created um and get everybody um on board with that. and we will have all of the parents direct emergency contact information should anything happen um which we are greatly hoping does not but we all know that emergencies occur. So um but we will be sharing everything and the parents will be able to contact their kids at any time if necessary. Like I said we will encourage you know WhatsApp for sharing purposes within the
011group but they will also have their cell phones to directly contact their parents. This is even though this is a school sanctioned event, it it's a little bit more freedom and we are we know we acknowledge that we are out of state and that they should have the ability to contact their parents. So >> another one is >> I think any questions from the board members? Sounds awesome. >> Are you guys going to be having the big flag that you walk around with? >> Maybe. Maybe we haven't talked about that yet, but we could >> have a set of Disney ears already. I have my mini house ears. >> You see the groups and all >> you're almost in line and then one person gets in front of you and then you're like, >> "Oh,
012no." >> Now, >> yes, I've been at the that exact same spot before. >> The good news is is the packages do include includes all of their tickets to get in and out of the park. Um we are going to offer the option later of doing lightning lane. That's something that we're we're looking into for the students. Um travel insurance is also something that is offered through Horizon directly that we have offered to the students and families. Some of them have already decided to take up on that offer. Um and they you know that's entirely up to them if they decide to have that. There is in and for an out for those families there is a cancel for any reason option as well. So the the parents do have that as their sort of
013um trip protection. >> I just want to thank our two adviserss for their passion around I was to say bringing the magic of Disney to our students but really are bringing our students to the magic of Disney uh for your positivity and also for your persistence the planning preparation development of the itinerary for this trip. There's been some challenges along the way and clearly your persistence has paid off because you're here this evening. It is my proud pleasure to recommend to the board of education that you take action this evening to approve your trip to Disney for the class of 27. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any other discussion? >> Have fun. >> We're going to Disney World because he showed up on his birthday. >> Happy birthday. I will enjoy. >> Yes. >>
014Oh, I'm already on it. >> The two of us are going to be interesting. >> Thank you. >> Have a great night. >> Now we are back to the regular agenda. So, public hearing, the emergency response plan and districtwide safety plan and the to start with code of conduct. At this time, I'd like to open the public hearing and public comment period for the district's code of conduct for students in New York State Education Law 281. The board of education is required to conduct a public hearing specific to the code of conduct. Important for the board and all of our community members to know that our building administrators uh welcomed faculty and staff to provide feedback surrounding our code of conduct. Our focus this year based on input from our building administrators was on section
015five and six and faculty and staff as well as in Rob's Dr. Snider's building. Uh he met with students the focus was accuracy, clarity and consistency, alignment with practice and implication for practice. And I am happy to report that upon review of sections five and six, there were nominal revisions in five and six based on those discussions, more implications for practice as far as how we administer the code of conduct. That being said, there are two noteworthy changes for the board of education in our community. In section three under behavioral expectations, page 21, we added a section on ebikes and motorized transportation devices. Uh Dr. Schneider brought to my attention about two weeks ago that we now have uh an element of ebikes on site. It was my first response not to want to have
016to add a section to the code of conduct about ebikes. And then literally the next day, bus driver sent me a picture of an ebike uh looking like it was going to go under a bus. And so we did now add language in the code of conduct specific to ebikes. And that gives our uh administrators the um uh board of education approved language for them to have those conversations with the students as well as their families about safety because it does pose a safety hazard. The other important piece for uh the board of education as well as our community would be uh section six. We did update our minimum periods of suspension. We believe clarity is kindness and we want to make sure our families and students know that there are certain offenses where if
017there is an act of misconduct, there is an automatic 5day suspension potential for a hearing. And so we updated the language on page 31. And then in section 9, we revamped prohibited conduct pages 42 through 56. Again, an effort to have clarity being kindness for our families and for our students. And those obviously are reflected in the in the document. And before I wrap up and move into the emergency response plan, important to know that uh Miss Dixon worked with our PR person. We now have a link on the website uh for public hearings. And so folks can access the documents as well as there's a Google form that people can provide their input or ask questions about the document as a facet of the public hearing or public comment, I'm sorry. So, and that
018concludes uh all I will say this evening about the code of conduct, but we do feel very proud about uh continuing to clean up that document to make it as user friendly as possible for all of our stakeholders. And then if there's no questions from the board about the code of conduct, I'll shift right into emergency response plan. Okay, moving into the emergency response plan. It is also uh my honor to open the public hearing and public comment period for the district's emergency response plan. Uh this is in accordance with commissioner's regulation uh 155.17. The board of education is required to have a public hearing and public comment period before you adopt the revised district code of conduct. Uh important to know that it is a professional responsibility of the superintendent to lead a district
019safety team which we have uh done and we had our district safety team uh comprised of about 40 members uh multiple and varied stakeholders both internal and external who reviewed that document and made recommendations for revision. Uh we conducted a crosswalk with the New York State guidance around what are the required components of a district safety plan. Uh as a result we included more information about our consistent use of threat assessment as a district. So as you know we adopted a threat assessment protocol. We also included uh our wit team which is the Williamson intervention team. These are for threat cases if we identify a significant threat case. We now have a team of professionals with uh community partners to provide the best opportunities for support of mitigating measures for those students. And so we
020included information about wit. Uh we also added district responses to flood missing students and severe weather. Uh beyond that uh there are some nominal changes but those reflect the greatest changes in that document. And again folks can access the document as well as provide input or ask questions going right to the link on the website now under public hearing. And that concludes what I would have to say about public hearing unless there's any questions from the board. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Okay. reports to the board. Um Ramen didn't submit anything, right? >> He did not. He did. >> So I know he's at his uh post graduation tonight. So we'll >> skip the clicker. >> So reports from district for us to get our slide deck up there. Okay, it's my pleasure to
021actually welcome all of the administrative team here this evening to present to the board in a little different fashion than what potentially you're used to. Uh we created what's called the year review. And so I tked or charge each of the administrators to think about points of pride, things that they've led, work that they've led in their building and things that they would want to share that align very closely with the essential objectives identified by the board of education. I want to share with you I had the opportunity to review the slide deck over the last week and there is so much to be proud about the work that this team is leading and putting in place for Williamson. I couldn't be more excited to continue the work with this team at the table and
022so I want to thank each of the team members for all of your hard work that you are doing on behalf of and advocating for our students at Williamson Central School District. And that with that without further ado I'm going to pass up first to Mr. Dresel who will deliver and I'm not sure if you're sharing the report but Mr. wrestler, Miss Brack, who will present on elementary school. And again, if you just want to tell me when to advance your slides, I'm happy to do so for you. >> You can go right to the next. Oh, perfect. So, this these are just a couple pictures. And honestly, when we say couple, there are hundreds if not thousands of pictures of the events that we hold each day, an hour at the elementary school. So,
023if you can go to the next slide, some of our first focus is really broken into academic achievement, culture, caring, and community connections. But like underneath the pillars and student achievement there, literacy and math, we're able to really roll out the new addition of collaborative classroom this year in math expressions, which you've heard many times over that we've presented so far this year. Um, one of the big parts about implementing and rolling things out is the consistency in our grade levels and the teamwork that happens amongst them. So, we were able to really focus on how do we guide Jess and I from far away that discussion at our grade level. So, one of the things was the consistent meeting minutes that we implemented this year with the building planning team. So, we're really proud
024of that. Um, what that really does is through the consistency in our scheduling and how it aligns with our multi-tered systems of supports, we really dove into um data in that we had three distinct targeted data days where at the end of this year, we're really starting to able to look at I Ready, which will easily transition over to MClass or Dibbles. We'll hear those next year. um looking at cut scores or thresholds that would qualify for tier one continuing tier two yellow level or tier three which is our red level which is going to help guide our response to intervention and then ultimately again through that process is also our MTSS team which meets on Thursdays with Jess and I and those are for not only the students that we collectively kind of put
025into groups to meet and to guide their interventions but those are for individual students that are not responding to those interventions that can be submitted by the teachers. We started inviting um related service providers to those. So we have a speech and language referral that we send out the speech pathologist. If there's a concern with them, you're invited to the meeting to be able to share out and also our classroom teachers. Again, they're the the best in people that know about their students and when you need to. We definitely bring parents in whenever that level. What this really has done is it really helped build a foundation for next year whenever we roll out a different response to intervention where it's more of a what I need or a diamond or a rhombus if you
026will approach intervention and academic success. Um so that's just a snapshot when I say it's a snapshot a legit snapshot. Um, Jess Craft is I called myself today during field days is I was DJ Jazzy Dressler because I really am just like a puppet out there and a lot of it is like J Craft DJ >> DJ Jazzy Drestler is what I was today. I had a microphone and speaker on wheels. Um, and today was field days and that's just I cannot talk enough about the work that the building does in general and Jess leads a lot of this tier one is what we call it. Um, so Jess, I'll kind of hand over to you because the culture of caring would not be anything. Next slide we could have without you and what you're
027able to do. >> That was a perfect lead in that we did not even plan but um something I wanted to just hit on is we have like timeless traditions. Field Days is a perfect example that comes back every year, but it's so exciting to see that every time it comes back. There's little tweaks, little changes. There's a DJ this year. You have all these added things. It just it just keeps getting better and better, and it was just a wonderful day. Um, so we had a lot of fun um celebrations throughout the year. Scott showed up in a pumpkin every now and then that also brought a level of fun. Today is putting his pumpkin on. I'm like, what are you doing? We have fun as a pumpkin for a little while. It was
028so fun. Um but there definitely is a culture of care of um love and hugs and high fives and just joy as we come together to learn every day and that is just a privilege to be in the building and do those kinds of things. Um something I think that we shared earlier this year is we did um a review of each one of the pride expectations and had an assembly for that and then we had a final assembly at the end of the school year um with some of our fourth graders who led that and they reviewed all of the attributes and it was so fun. We had a group of fourth graders that let a cheer. We had a group of fourth graders that um toffee ash threw a little skit that they
029did. So there was a lot of really cool things and we were able to be outside. It was beautiful and just see the whole school together cheering and um reviewing those attributes was great. Um lots of really again great things. You can see the global day of play, big pumpkin day, all those events that again great traditions that we just continue um to implement and um get around the building. So it's a lot of fun. And what there on that first one there is the culture of caring is hard to kind of explain everything that happens but the raw data is is when we looked at the office discipline referrals as we are down substantially this year than we were last year. So it's it's working that wraparound approach the relationships that we're building with
030students the visibility of Jess and I within the hallways and in the classrooms is really working with with our students. The last part is those community connections in that um when we communicate home is is done every class. It's so weird as you transition from elementary school to middle school and high school is that elementary teachers are just overly communicative. They are overly inviting parents, caregivers, community members into their classrooms. We have hired a couple grandparent volunteers that have turned into Grandma Johnson. I have to give a shout out to is that she was a grandparent volunteer that was reading with first graders and I we we adopted her. We said, "Hey, we would love for you to apply and work in our building." Um it's just a little part like when you step into
031the building is like it's hard to leave because we kind of stick ourselves out there and just invite you back. But the partnerships that we have at the public library, the proudest part I think that I have is the amount of outreach that specific staff members have made to our middle school and our high school and those older students coming in so that our younger students can see that. And then like I know you also are very aware like the grandparents day is one of the traditions that that Jess has shared is is I've never experienced grandparents day but it was absolutely amazing. Um those are just a little things. the flag day celebration. Never experienced a flag day celebration, but then having Haley win there because there was a connection between one of the
032people that worked in the office with her mother. Like those things are just authentic. You can't create that unless you are a school that is based in the heart of a community that really is just they they wrap around each other with care. So it I don't think we can even talk and get into like all the things that we do I think to help with those three pillars but that is a very brief brief overview of the things that we've been able to do I think this year at the elementary school >> hands down points of writing thanks to both of you and we'll shift over to the middle school >> good evening everyone so um again as Mr. Dresser said uh again with the work through BPT and I can also not say
033uh again um our BPT team has been amazing. They have led some of this work um Mr. Rock and myself and so we took a three-pronged approach. So again at the middle school we also had some curriculum changes um our sixth grade literacy across the content that is a second year but we are seeing some of the gains uh for our second year and then we um again we adopted the fifth grade math expressions this year and uh next year sixth grade is also going to um adopt math expressions and I'll get to that. we have seen some significant growth in our fifth grade students. And then uh we looked at also a way to support at a tier one level all of our students in math seventh grade. And so we added for seventh
034grade a math extension. So every other day the students get an extra period of math every day. That again has proven uh this year to be exceptional. We saw um again about 150% growth in our ready scores in math seven. So again, we are seeing some significant changes for the curriculum change, but then it's very important to make the curriculum changes, but then to give the staff professional development with which to be able to analyze what's coming their way and how can they be better teachers and this uh goes across the board. So this in order to be uh have our students achieve our our teachers need to feel that they have the tools to help them. And so we did a lot of data analysis again um and we have a lot of new
035staff and so we had to train them in the tools that we use. We can't make assumptions. So we train them in I already analyzing that I already but then also with staff again supporting students helps them if there's an issue how do they again rebuild that relationship with students. So restorative conversations, QRI instruction, that was our qualitative reading inventory. How do our new staff administer the QRIS? Again, in order to have students achieve, our staff need to be able to be at their best. Um, again, utilizing at this point, I'm ready to plan for instruction, recognizing the conflict cycle, that's another PD that, um, Mr. Ro supported, and then classroom management. And so these are supported teachers who then could better support our students. The last thing is again the progress monitoring is what
036we were doing working and so we also also utilize data days um resulted in for our students may perhaps in schedule changes perhaps some more support. Um and again sometimes that would also support students social emotionally. They might need a little bit more counseling support again to help them with their academic achievement. uh continually reviewed our BPT goals to make sure that we were reaching what we wanted to and uh by about late March early April we created as I've said before our club 34 which again targeted those specific students who were sorted on that edge of gap that we could really address and we did a little assessment those students with a few exceptions just soared again in our ready to grow that was a huge success so again make the changes in curriculum
037give our staff professional development and progress monitor. Okay, next slide. Our culture of care again through both staff and students. Um our culture of care also looks at at some of our staff and so we made an effort to uh write personalized cards to each staff of individualized notes. Um we did staff recognition forum and again we did a little coffee talk. So coffee talk was monthly. We had donates and coffee. Um that was a big hit. staff would just come down, chat, get together. But then for both of our students, again, we had some professional development. Steve Partial did catch our students doing good. Get them when they're doing the right thing and and recognize them for that review of our pride matrix. We went over that uh in forum a lot. Our pride
038philosophy, you know, tier one discipline. We talked to kids about, you know, what are some of the things that we see the most in terms of referrals and how are we going to address that? One of the biggest things I need to thank Mr. Roco led the steering straight we had in the middle of the year some significant um issues with vaping and then we had a presentation for our seventh and eighth grade students after that we did notice a decline so I think the conversation for students was maybe this is not the the way I want to go the uh lanyard pass system very significant uh mid year we had students like kind of in the halls and we really uh developed a lanyard test that was a buildingwide Mr. Baker made the lanyards
039and so um we really had a reduction in students being out in the halls again to improve being in classroom management PD and our faculty. We also had how as a staff how you have a difficult conversation with family parents or family members if they if you have to have that if you get to that point what are some what are some sentence starters for them. Um again the middle school has quite a few traditions and we also carried them on and and and patched them. So we have Harvest Fest Veterans Day. Um our end of year lunchon which is coming up. Coffee talk was new this year. International fest our students had a ro shambo um uh competition which was sort of rock paper scissors but that was a whole building wide and who
040was the winner. uh March Madness. Uh our tier one team led our March Madness and so each kid got a um like four or five kids were assigned to a basketball team and then that conversation was very important and again very early on in the year uh to build those build those connections and those connections. Uh the 17th grade teams decided early on the year they were going to team bond with their students so they could develop the relationships at the beginning of the year so that hopefully discipline would decline. Okay. beyond community connections. Um I am perhaps some of the most the the work that we did here with community connections. Um people were in the middle school for many different reasons. So again um one of our biggest thing our BPT led this
041is that when we recognized student of the month and um our musicians of the month we invited those family members to every forum where we recognized that. So that was the first year that we've had a huge gathering of parents and family members come in when their students receive uh student of the month. We also made it a goal for our community members to come into the building and talk about career pathways. The first step at the middle school that was uh Alex Bean who's a business owner and Jan Williams who was a welder and there's Jan right there talking that also generated conversation for students. Um, again, Veterans Day, which is a strong tradition, but this year we actually had a community member um who is a veteran uh speak be the keynote speaker
042at our Veterans Day and that was very powerful in moving um cross the link connections as Mr. Dler said, we had our middle school students read to our uh elementary students. They love that. We have many retired community members come in and they are um happy to support the kids. Mr. Bule, Ben, you know him does a town walk. And then Daddy Dennis and Kathy Branching also um they are in work with Mr. Baker for the maple syrup. Um our PTSA and I cannot say enough about our PTSA and increase presence in our building. They were always there. Um again we had them there for harvest fest roller skating veterans day concerts the pride race and field day. Again I cannot say enough. Our PTSA their presence as a community and supporting the building has
043been just so uh thankful. We're very thankful for that. And also our all of our teachers through our BP made a commitment to increase communication. We have 100% communication with families and parents and they did spreadsheets and we uh documented all our communication but also our communication as a building. Our scoops and schedules attendance this past year for as a building was 82%. So there was not this enormous fall off at seventh eighth grade. We had seventh eighth graders come to schools and schedules too. So it was very very very significant. Thank you very much to both and shifting over the high school Dr. Snider. >> All right. So uh academic achievement this year I would say this is probably the biggest mindset shift for our building. Um typically high schools are very operational focused.
044Um people work in silos and this year was a as a building we really tried to break down those walls and brought our teachers together to set academic goals focused on literacy um building student vocabulary and writing skills. So, one of the things that um we did this year is we established a shared literacy initiative that every department would have a common writing strategy and a vocabulary strategy they'd be applying throughout the school year. Uh we also met uh something I started this year is I would be a meeting with the department leaders monthly where we would unpack uh student achievement data and we would then share that back out within the departments. Um previously uh those meetings were just again happening in isolation. these department chairs are appointed and then they would just work
045with their teams but the building principal and the building assistant principal had no role and really what was going into the that work. Um so this year we kind of read that back in so we were again sharing and collaborating what was happening. Um, one of the fun things that came out of there is Mark Blair actually took on tier 2 vocabulary from every um, department they shared with him. And so I believe it was 3,000 vocabulary words that every kid he had this year worked through. Um, that were essentially common vocabulary that you would see across multiple content areas. Um, we embedded the explicit vocabulary strategies that we shared out with staff throughout the year. Um, and then we're excited to see the data when it comes out. So one of the places we'll
046see that is on regious exams. So in the ELA and the global US exams jumping to those part two three fours of those exams we analyzing looking for student growth and their performance on the assessments there. But also next year we're going to launch big tech. Um we tried this year with the hopes of getting some of that data that Kate and Scott talk a lot about. Um but it was not necessarily uh conducive to secondary education. need their kid to take like two hours a month to be regularly engaging in it. That's just not possible with how rigorous the instruction is. Um so we're going to switch to link tech which will allow our teachers to implement regular content based uh assessments and then those assessments can be analyzed through those. >> All right.
047So for culture of care the biggest thing we did this year through tier one was a weekly pride presentation on the pride attribute of the month. So we went through all five attributes twice uh with at least seven presentations on each one if not more. Um and it was really a testament to the tier one team continually having a lesson every week for students to engage in. Um we took our took tier one survey throughout the school year. We gave it three times October, February and May. And one of the biggest things we saw an increase in was the statement um students in the school treated each other with respect even when they disagreed. In October, our students less than half of our students reported that they felt positively about that statement. That was true
048for our building. Um and we saw 9% increase. Um so now over 50% of our students feel as though the other students in the building treat them with respect even when they disagree. Clearly there's more room to grow with that. But I think that is that is a testament to what we have done and the focus that we've put on. Uh your words matter, your actions matter, how you treat each other matters. Um we've engaged in a variety of culture building activities like the elementary middle school. We also have a a lot of traditions. Um whether it's our door decorating or hallway decorating, um cart wars and find Marley during uh the Christmas season. um a slew of fundraisers this year that had students engaged and knocking down doors and getting talking to staff, talking
049to each other. Um and then a variety of competitions as well. Um we did launch an electronic pass system and it has improved student accountability and reduced hallway traffic. Um the most important thing it has reduced uh surprise visits from other students into the classroom is now students can make appointments with their teachers and the teachers can approve or deny them. Um and I think that piece of uh that being able to to make that appointment for a lot of students has guaranteed them time with a staff member that they can trust um and has increased a sense of belonging among among our students. I've had several students share with me that they appreciate the appointment feature of securely. Um mid year we we saw that our freshman needed a a chance to strengthen relationships
050with each other. Um and we incorporated restorative circles with them for the second half of the year. They met once monthly uh with a group of six to seven other freshmen and we purposely made up freshmen that they don't normally talk with. um getting a chance to share their experiences and have that community connection and building within their their grade level. And then last, Rob and I ensured that we could do 100% participation in re-engagement meetings following out of school suspension. So, we made a point to to tell our students who are returning from out of school suspension they were welcome here and that we wanted them there and that we had a plan for their their success going forward. >> And then finally is our community connection. Um the thing that I'm most proud
051of and obviously Chelsea was a big part of the organization of this um is the college and career day uh which replaced a portion of the day of play for us. It's big because it's only one day but I can think of two great examples of where this really matters. Uh two students at our school who I would say are traditionally maybe lost or don't have necessarily a pathway forward after high school. um who came up to me after this when one of them is going to go to lineman school next year to be a lineman for he wants to come back and work for our genie and that's because he talked to somebody who did that work and another person came and was speaking to a police officer and didn't realize the pathway and
052how soon he could enter law enforcement and different training opportunities that came through there and that student is planning to pursue that. Um both of those connections came from having this career day. Um and both those people also live in this community. So we intentionally reached out to people that lived like right here along the 104 corridor that could come in and speak with our students. Um so we made various connections through that. Every one of the presenters um is planning to come back next year and so we hope to even expand it more. Uh so it's really proud of that. And then we also had the college and career tables there. A lot of our students don't have the opportunity to explore colleges. They don't get a chance to go out of town and
053visit. Um but we had colleges from as far away as Pennsylvania um to as far east as Albany come and sit in our school for a couple hours and be with our students. Um and otherwise those students may not know those places even exist. So it's nice to have that. Um we spoke with 288 uh different uh students or parent contacts throughout the year. Um so essentially means that we reach 96% of our students throughout the year. Um those are recorded. I think it's important to note that those are staff taking the time to go into the sheet and log that. that certainly slowed down throughout the year, but the contacts were still happening. So, I think there's some room there in that data to maybe bump that up a little bit. Um, and I
054believe it's actually higher than what the 96% shows. I went through the list of students recently, and I believe everyone that list has been called, at least by me, um, at some point, the ones who are not listed on there. Um, we also had 50% of our students receive positive phone calls home at some point during the school year from a staff member. Um, we increase our recognition. Chelsea talked about that a little bit on the last slide through our pride recognitions through uh our tier one team. Um and then our volunteer club this year really uh expanded. Previously they did one event each year which was going to the point of peace and a new person took on that this year and we quadrupled the number of students who are involved and we went
055on to uh doing seven different events and this year after driving back from Boseies and I noticed an opportunity for a new event. I didn't know that the high school volunteer club owns or is responsible for a portion of Route 21 here. Um, so I let Mrs. Passer know that next year she can get out there and get the kids cleaning up part of Route 21. But one of the signs there says that we're responsible for that. High school volunteer club takes care of this highway. And who knew? So we're on it. I think eight of us next year. Um, I also, uh, Superintendent Asha, if you could go back two slides to our first one there. Just want to point out we also hit some ducks in the slideshow for you guys. Um, so
056I wasn't sure if you saw that, but on every slide, there's a duck hidden on there. Just to stick with our duck hiding. >> So, I'm going to add to that in our culture. I did not shout out there, but in the duck hiding event at the high school that lasted about six weeks, we made sure to engage some of our most disengaged students in that by intentionally giving them ducks to hide for their teachers. And many of them took it a step further and went and took and gave the ducks directly to the teacher and said, "Thank you for being here." >> And it was just a very very kind gesture. >> Thank you very much to the high school folks. Athletics. >> So this afternoon I had the opportunity to sit down with
057Superintendent Ashton and kind of review the year in athletics and just to think of where we were last year at this point to where we are now. There's so much work and time and energy from our coaches, staff, students. Very very proud to go through and see what we we did. >> Also driving here, I was thinking how many sectional titles did we win this year. Like on a on a typical year, I would say there's two, three would be three is a really good year. >> Does anybody know? >> That's like a big school year. >> Yeah. six and >> six years we are seven seven sectional titles. >> So I wrote them down here. We had uh girls cross country, boys cross country, girls soccer, boys soccer, girls indoor, boys indoor, and girls
058outdoor. It's been incredible to think that we had seven sectional team titles in one school year. um on the policy and compliance. So this year we looked at the athletic handbook and made it uh made it relevant to our code of conduct. So it's using the same language and if needed as reference when speaking with a family or student um you can easily connect the two and that's ongoing and changing yearly. Uh dual participation in sports. So that was a big one for me at the beginning of the year just looking at how we are measuring our students that are dual sporting. We had seven students apply for dual participation this year and six ended. So if you remember going back there's like a halfway checkpoint to see if they're meeting measures and there was
059one student unfortunately was not. So they had to pick go back to their primary but very proud of this that we up the rigor on group participation uh with and same with eligibility. So staff um was very vocal about we needed to up our eligibility. Um there's definitely room for growth here and the process and um implementation of it after going through a year but I think upping the um rigor in our eligibility definitely has brought some urgency to students um which is which we need and one that I'm very proud of is the concussion and management of return to play. um just looking at the safety and we had a significant concussion this spring and I had the opportunity to go through the return to play procedure with um with the family and and
060our school nurse and just making sure we're meeting the checkpoints and um we got to a point where we needed to hit pause which I believe in the past we wouldn't have that in our policy and we did this this time to make sure our student was safe. um looking at program and event. So uh we applied for a grant for modified flag football which you are well aware of. We had uh seven modified girls participate in that. Three student signing days. We just had our last um this past spring with three students signing to go to um their respective colleges, three parent meetings, three coaches meetings. Um they were well attended and as you all aware the uh the combined football agreement with Bishop Carney that took a lot of time and effort. We
061heard Ronin talk about student interest in that and exploring different avenues and we end up we are scheduled to play with Bishop Carney this this upcoming fall. Staffing um I'm proud to say that we did not start a season with a coach sorry that was not hired at the start of the season. So I didn't have to fill in or we didn't have to ask somebody to fill in while we're trying to find somebody. So everybody was hired pre um pre preseason um with cert with proper certifications. Uh the athletic trainer. So that's a task that I told astronaut I'm going to be looking into. As we well aware that a physical therapist does not equate to a athletic trainer. Um so we did look at the hours and what is needed. So, we have
062that information now and I'm exploring different opportunities for us to have an athletic trainer moving forward. Created the program assistant um this past in my coach evaluation meetings with our program assistant in baseball and softball. I asked the two like and they brought their documents that they brought um in the evaluation asked them how was the how was this? Tell me more about it. And it was nice to hear Dylan France in baseball say, "Well, I didn't know that Rich was using this lingo to talk with um about bunting." And now like that helped out a lot when I went down to work with Steve partial in baseball. Like now we're using the same terminology, so it's not changing from year to year. Um and again, that should be have been done prior, but this
063is just another way for it to be done and implemented the right way. We also do not have to cancel practice. We do not have to change a game due to extra coverage. And that's from modified all the way to varsity. Did not have to cancel or change practice due to personnel, not weather. >> Excellent. So, our new programming, as you know, I'm providing our students more opportunities. Modified flight football. I I just spoke on that. So, getting that grant, the $3,000 grant to get our students brand new uniforms. Um, they're playing out under the lights in in the stadium. So, having our facilities work together to to make sure that happens. That's a really great feeling for a seventh, eighth grade year old girl to play under the lights in a new sport that's
064up and coming. It's pretty pretty cool that we offer that at Williamson where there's schools in Monroe County that it's non-existent. Uh unified sports programming, something I'm just starting to look in and hopefully we'll have this for the fall. It'll be bowling in the fall. So, it's um having our special needs students working alongside our um other students and working together. uh we have I hope everything ready to go for the implementation in the fall if not we'll be in the spring and like I said we had three signing days was very uh well attended by staff and students and support their um peers and thought their achievements and community partnerships the town park agreement I know it wasn't the best year but this was the best year for I think in a long time
065with communication with the town park and myself. So, uh, Larry, I still, it's a big joke in the middle school office like, Larry Town Park called me. I remember Larry's last name. Larry was phenomenal. He would call me every single morning. Brian, here's the update. He was, he was, I think we could play. He would make sure we play. Um, so the communication was on par. Uh, yes, the weather was awful. Um, I'm hoping that uh we can fix some things in terms of materials that are purchased with the money that we are providing to the town park. So, we can hopefully use that to get some games in. Uh, neighboring districts, like I said, just uh we are merging with multiple schools now, whether it's from cross country to football to bowling. Um it's
066just having those um collegial partners and just making sure that we can offer our students um the opportunity they deserve and partnerships with town recreck MCBR the orphans to expand our our student athletes and participation. So there's a lot in here that has not been touched on uh just in terms of inventory to to new uniforms to uniform purchasing. So there was a lot that was done in athletics. Um but here you can see in progress things that will be um focused on in the next school year. So banners in the high school gym offering community to come in sit down ask uh opinions and what would you like to the community not just um staff and students. Uh this is a huge one and Miss Ash and I are going to have some conversations.
067So there's no more A process. If you remember A was bringing students up to play at a higher higher level. a modified to go up to JB or a modified to go up to varsity. New York State is saying now um all right districts I don't want you to say this so create your own um regulation on how you will bring those those students up. Now there's a lot of things to consider obviously student safety maturity um is it going to affect different programs in the in the program. So that's something that Miss Ashley and myself are going to sit down and obviously get some community input on how how we can approach that. Um athletic awards, I think it was uh a good decision to go to three rather than one at the end.
068Um three hour presentations than one long hour where they could be relevant and meaningful for those athletes. Uh scholarship awards that went very well. I believe I would like to have a supervisor's meeting moving forward. So our supervisors know like I give them examples tabletop activities on how to handle a situation. What would you do in this and have some collaboration along with that and like I said unified sports and you can read those. I'm not going to do all three on the ongoing um and our penny loves the budget records and documentation of that. Thank you. Any questions for for any of the administrators thus far? Uh I'm going to speak briefly on behalf of Karen Hoodie who may not be here this evening. Uh oh, I'm sorry. Before we go to Karen Hoodies,
069I think we have Chelsea North up again around data coordination. >> Yeah. So data coordination is uh not very glamorous uh like athletics, but uh but it is an important part of of school function. Um, one of the biggest things that we use is our student management system which is school tool and that does a lot of our reporting to the state on student information. So almost everything about students except for free and reduced lunch status and special education uh some special education topics are reported through school school um and I think the state collects data on every single aspect of a child's life. Um so school also manages our building calendars, course scheduling, our daily period schedules, course information. It contains some faculty information. Um it's what makes sure that we have tests for
0703 through eight uh testing. Um all of all these things happened through school tool and uh in prior years a lot of the information on how to do this was uh kind of siloed into one position that didn't necessarily um it was siloed into the registar and it the registar doesn't necessarily handle all of these things. So this year my goal is to clearly outline the schools and responsibilities both at each building and at district level for what they're responsible for managing in school tool and building capacity by providing trainings and resource documents for those staff to be able to go to in case I'm ever so incapacitated I can't tell them how to do it. Um so >> I hope that never happens. >> I hope I hope not. But um the goal the
071goal would be is that someone could walk in and be freshly hired and they would have a document that they could go to um and and not have to worry about someone already knowing how to do it. That they would be able to learn and have that document and know what the what the responsibility was and how to do it in school. So that is an ongoing project but it has been cleaned up quite a bit um over the last few months. >> Very uh this is a shift in practice as she already indicated in years past. was not housed with the data coordinator. And so this year, as a result of some personnel changes, we made an executive decision to shift it over to our data coordinator. And as you can tell, our analytical
072assistant principal/data coordinator, it's a perfect role. So thank you very much for your thorough and comprehensive approach to that. And now on behalf of Karen Hoodie, who is doing all the right work leading for academic achievement uh thinking about uh top performing schools, one of the attributes for top performing schools is guaranteed viable curriculum. She's working on that. She's working on communication for families, making sure that we have a clear articulation around how we're grading, what's going to be covered in courses, and obviously I hope you're hearing the consistent emphasis on ELA and math. We've identified it as a pri as two priority areas for the district, and there is ongoing emphasis in those two areas. As we're looking forward, the work that started in the elementary school is going to continue in the middle
073school. She's been partnering with middle school administration as well as staff and we are very proud to roll out new ELA and math curriculum uh materials next year at the middle school as well to enhance and bolster performance at that level. Also looking at assessment opportunities. This is timely especially given uh New York inspires the work that's happening across our state. We are going to have to look at different means of how we are assessing our students. And it's really the shift in New York State is going to be competency based. Meaning not how did you do on a multiple choice question or test necessarily, but how can you demonstrate your competency on having mastered or leveled uh a ma a a passing level of proficiency. I'm trying to come up with what I wanted.
074A passing level of proficiency for content in any of the courses. Uh community connections. Again, just thinking about how we are trying to be more transparent and make sure families have an understanding. Honestly, I'll share with you, I remember sitting in uh this room and having a conversation with board members and a board member indicating not even really clear on how are my kids being graded. And so, we really listened and we're trying to take that into consideration as we continue to work with teachers on what are we communicating with our families so they have an understanding and awareness. We're also trying to make sure that we have progress reports accessible to families. Not every family is comfortable with using electronic um methodology or or mode. And so we're trying to make sure that all
075families have access to uh communication about their students performance. Mr. Drestler uh mentioned earlier, I'm like, "Oh, he's throwing them for a little bit of roundness." I don't think that Oh, it is around us. >> It is. I think that's like third grade math. Second grade math. It is around us. Uh Miss uh Hoodie is working collaboratively with Mr. dasher in particular at the middle at the elementary school level. And we'll continue that work with middle school and high school, but looking at not just how do we support students who might need additional supports to be successful and meet proficiency levels, but what are we doing for those students who have met those proficiency levels. So thinking about the extension and enrichment component. And so this slide is representative of we have to be thinking
076about how do we meet the needs of our struggling learners. We also have to think about how do we ensure rigor uh and engagement of our students who might have already mastered or demonstrated a high level of proficiency. And this is so this is uh work we're very proud of and that we will continue to uh work on in years to come. With that, I'll pass off to Nancy Miller to talk about people personnel services. All right. So, I kind of entered my role mid year, so I've been learning a lot as I've been going and as things have come my way. We've really worked on clearing things up. Um, I think my main goal in my role is to um come up with clear defined roles and expectations for everyone in the PPS department
077and clear processes and systems moving forward. There's a lot of many moving parts when it comes to special education and student supports and there's a lot of people in various buildings doing the work. So, we want to make sure that our communication is clear. Um, we have clarity in our work um and everyone understands what they're doing. So, through my comprehensive needs assessment, which I have done, I've identified several areas that I would love to improve. And I'm looking forward to this summer to really sitting down um and meeting with um various members of our PPS department. So, really, we can work on clarifying those roles and expectations and making clear systems and processes moving forward so everyone's on the same page. Um when thinking about student achievement, um one of some of those processes
078and procedures that we've already started working on is really looking at behavior intervention plans and functional behavior assessments. Um and making sure that we have usually defensible ones and ones that work. Um we have shifted that role back to our school psychologist. So I plan on sitting with them this summer. or we had a day plan where we're really going to go through those and look at our current BIPS and FBAs and really making those um actionable in our in the work in the classroom. Um our referral process um whether we get parent referrals or mostly our MTSS referrals um that come through uh cse referrals. We are again I'm sitting down with our school sites this summer so we can come up with a um our referral packet is aged so we want to
079update it make sure it reflects the actual needs of our buildings and our students um so we can have a clearer process moving forward um and then Jess and I have worked very hard this year just specifically with 504s me with IEPs ensuring that when um we declassify students um there's a clear process for them to still get their accommodations moving forward um and really clearing up those systems and making sure our testing accommodations are clearly stated so it helps um our buildings when they implement them um for state testing and regions exams and midterms. Um thinking about the culture of caring um through my comprehensive needs assessment relationships are definitely a strength of our district. Our teachers and our staff really make strong relationships not only with the students sitting in front of them
080but with families. We really are um a community school and relationships are my special ed teachers, my related service providers. They know their students, they know their needs and they know how to meet them where they are at. And I think that's an incredible strength of us. Um we're moving forward um making sure that we have clear roles and expectations. Um and we really work this hard this year on making a transition plan. Something that came out of Bridget's work last year was um you know that transition from fourth to 5th in 8th to 9th. Um so Jess and I have been very careful about who we invite to those transition meetings, those CSC meetings and 504 meetings, ensuring that someone from the next building is sitting at those meetings to ensure that there's a
081better transition um as students move from building to building. Um uh we are a community school. EW work. Um we have our two community schools coordinate uh coordinators. This really helps us make community connections. Um in my role, I've been able to sit on many community schools um meetings um at Newark with other community um with our community agencies and making those partnerships. Um we've definitely made many connections and we've hooked agencies up with kids. Today we just had a CSSE meeting um where the agency partner was able to come and it was really made a difference for that student. So um it's great to make those connections. We have a high family involvement at our cse. Um parents are there. We contact them by phone if they are not. We find a way for
082them to attend so they're an active um participant in making decisions about supports for their students. Um and we're looking forward to Oh, sorry. We had um our why can I think of the name right now? Our community schools coordinator. >> No, advisory board. That's the word looking for. Um and we I identified again many strengths um of our community schools partners but um definitely um areas to move forward as well on making sure that students and families in need are getting what they need um in school out. >> Thank you very much. >> And now the business office. >> So I'm very proud for this to have been my first full year of going through the budget development process here at Williamson. um last year I kind of came in at the tail end
083of it and um I'm very thankful for all of the community support that we got this year for the budget. Uh I you know throughout the process we partnered with all of the um administrative leaders uh within the district to really come up with what um our needs were going to be for the upcoming year. And I also conducted in looking at developing the budget, I conducted line by line um essentially like audits I guess and looking to see really what was in those codes. Was there any access that really didn't need to be there and really looked at trying to rightsize those those uh lines. Um also um you know developed many uh presentations and uh videos. I did um a couple of the videos which were my favorite part of the whole web
084development >> more videos. >> That's what I think too. >> It's actually my recommendation. >> And uh moving forward, I am looking at building upon some of the already established uh parts of the budget development process and improving them. You know, Uh some of the things that um I have done throughout this year is doing some individual internal audits. Um whether it's like looking at some of our payroll processes and um just kind of like diving in a little bit as to you know what some of the things are that we pay is this you know and making sure that they match up with with what should be paid at the levels. I've also looked I did a deep dive into uh personal time off uh leave requests. Um making sure that everything's been recorded
085properly. Uh I've also looked at some of our procedures and just to determine if there's any efficiencies that we can make. Um and also looking at some of the invoicing processes. Um I've worked collaboratively within some of our other um partners. Um so with the capital improvement project you know with our architects and construction managers we've uh miss Ashton and I have uh explored um options as to whether you know it would be um financially responsible to do any building closures um whether it be responsible to lease. We're also in the beginning parts of exploring the energy performance contract and then um we have worked with um BPD our municipal advisors as far as putting together a long range financial plan. Some new initiatives that um have come up this year is the early college
086access closer where we can provide some opportunities to students to take some um courses that will give them college credit. And in doing this, we are able to gain some uh Boseies aid on that um which we can put towards some of the teachers salaries to teach those courses and get aid on that as well as some of the tuition costs. I've also engaged in an energy audit with an outside um company, New York Engineers. Um they've taken a lot of our data. They came in for three days and explored our buildings and um they've taken that information back and they're putting together a report where they'll give us um some ideas as to where we can make some improvements and that was all paid for um through NAERTA. Um, I've also started the process
087with time clocks to help um with accuracy and efficiency. Um, we've kind of stalled out a little bit here working with Boseies. Um, they had a person retire and now they're trying to fill in the gaps. So, it's um, the process isn't going as fast as, you know, I had hoped it would, but we are still, you know, plugging away at it. Uh I worked closely with Vicki in developing a transportation handbook which um contains a lot of the department's procedures and expectations. Um it gives you a step-by-step process for any pre or post trips that the bus drivers need to do. Um it explains how routes are assigned. Um and then what to do in case of emergencies, things like that. We did a second fleet study for our buses. Um it was another
088nocost study um for someone to come out and test whether our buses would um be able to h whether electric buses would be able to handle our routes that we currently have. Um and then I also set up by working with a couple of people at Boseies some professional development opportunities for the transportation department. Um some of the se sessions focused on TCIS training and restorative practices as well as culture of caring. Um >> what's TC do you want? >> No. I don't know if she's so much in the minutes. >> I just wanted to talk before I deliver the superintendent report which will be at least 13 plus minutes. >> I do want to share with the board uh the teacher wants to go out and say what themes did he notice but I
089won't do that because we are in a business meeting of the board. Uh I think there is a teach piece here and just thinking about highly effective leaders. When individuals go into administration, you have to go through a series of different leadership profile studies like you have to take all these different little assessments to start to figure out who you are as a leader. And one of the assessments uh that I engaged in many years ago when I started thinking I was going to be an admin when I grew up uh was a survey about task and relational orientation. So this is one of the simplest ones but all leaders lean into either task or to relationships and obviously we all know relationships matter. What's really important for highly effective leaders is they strike that
090balance between the relationships which are essential for leading work but also that emphasis on task and professional responsibility. And so what I heard tonight in listening to all of the administrators at this table was a team of administrators who understand and who are embracing the notion of positive relationships with faculty, students, staff, our families, community members, and then also recognize the importance of moving the needle and moving the work. And so I want to thank the entirety of the team because that's what I heard was this balance between the relational and also task orientation. I do have a brief report. It's going to be a little different than what's typical. I'm not going to end with facilities. I know that would be a disappointment. I want to start with a thank you to all of
091you. Clarity is kindness. That's something our team anchors into as a concept uh frequently. Uh clarity is kindness for our families, for our teachers. Uh frankly, you have been kind to us when we spend our time together those couple days uh engaging in workshops retreat. It is work. It's several days of looking at data. And so the board after working with us last summer identified our essential objectives that I hope you heard in action throughout these this year in review. Right? Every single thing that these administrators spoke to you about really stemmed from that conversation during that summer workshop where you identified these are the four areas we want you to focus on. uh Bridget as superintendent, we're charging, tasking you as a lead for this work to happen and you heard it in action
092this evening and again so I'm going to thank them but I'm also thanking all of you because clarity is kindness. It's easy for us to be able to be responsive when you've been clear on what you're looking for. So thank you for that. Uh my report stems on again thinking about your interview. Again everything that you heard talked about tonight really comes from the result of strategic planning. So thinking about myself and a couple of the other other administrators that you have at the table here. We're all in year one or two and meaning we all had to start with an entry plan. I heard Nancy Miller who's just been here under a hot minute and talking about her strengths need assessment. All being a new administrator, Scott Drestler being here finishing up his first
093year. We all had to do our own factf finding to understand what the state of the state is. And so as a part of doing those SNA strength need assessment, we were able to create a pretty cohesive and comprehensive strategic plan. And so I'm not taking you through that plan. I have up on the slide you can see the actual actionable list which is you know 20page document of things we're going to accomplish and because it's on that list we're going to hit them means we're going to do them. And then also you see the forward facing document that's for the community that's really more a a summary document of the work that's in play here. I'm going to touch on tonight just pillar four or essential objective four which is fiscal responsibility. I think
094the rest of the team did an outstanding job presenting on academic achievement, culture of caring and community partnership. And while Penny touched on fiscal responsibility, I want to make sure that uh the board as well as our committee understands the things we're doing around fiscal responsibility. Uh first two things on the essential objectives, you tasked us with saying uh let's make sure that we're looking in short and long-term financial planning. And we've done that. We are partner right now with BPD which means at any moment at any juncture we can pick up the phone and we can update our current financial plan which is a five-year plan. So we know where we sit not only in this current school year but we can also provide and get updates from BPD so that we are always
095looking at one to five years where are we as a district. This was a really important step that we put in action and have executed. The second thing, short and long-term facilities planning. You also tasked me two years ago saying we need to make sure we attend to our facilities. You know, we're sitting on a building condition survey which is indicative of about a hundred billion dollars worth of deficiencies and you've said we need to make sure we attend to that. And I feel very proud about the work we did planning for the 2025 SIP. I can also tell you while we don't have the plan written for the next two projects, part of that process in developing the 25 plan was we really do know what the next two projects are. I mean obviously
096that's dependent upon other things that might go wrong or become deficient between now and then. But uh it is it it does feel good. It's a good place to know what is the work in front of us specific to facilities management. I'm going to touch on these briefly again just thinking about pathways. You also tasked us with saying what are the potential pathways to sustainability and opportunity for our students. And so one of them that continues to be an ongoing is I joke about like we walk around Penny myself all the time thinking about efficiencies, right sizing. Are there ways we can do the same or better and with less and so we are constantly focused on what are the efficiencies and right sizing we could take that will continue to be ongoing work. Something
097new to the board that I do want to highlight is uh we are moving forward with an agreed upon procedure audit. Uh both myself, Penny, and I feel it's important for us to be vulnerable and to have an outside auditor come in and look at our pro look at our processes and procedures, especially specific to payroll and related processes. And so we've invited our auditor, external auditor come in and do what's called this agreed upon procedure audit. They are currently in district right now. We are making ourselves vulnerable to say what is going well in our current processes and procedures and then what might be areas of growth and opportunity. We think this is a very important step for us to calibrate and see what are those things maybe we haven't yet tripped upon that
098we need to make sure we take care of again from the lens of making sure we're protecting and preserving every single taxpayer dollar. Uh we have talked about in the past closing a building. Uh Penny mentioned that in her report. I'm not going to take us through that other than to say we've already determined that's not a viable pathway at this time. We talked about the idea of leasing a building that potentially is a viable pathway. We just right now are on pause because we're waiting to see uh both needs to hire a district superintendent and then determine what their priorities are. Uh Penny touched on the energy performance contract. I brought to the board now on two occasions just to make sure that we had your blessing and uh your agreement that we should
099prefer pursue an energy performance contract. What that basically means for the district is is they will come in and see if we are eligible to receive funding to get some work done that allows for us to uh improve or enhance our efficiencies. And so at this juncture, we don't have any results. We're just in the initial phases of providing uh Energia the documentation they need. We can't take any action without board approval. So certainly we will keep you apprised of when we get to a place where potentially you might take action. And then the last one I'm going to speak to is uh shared programming. Uh I've been forthright with uh you as well as the community that we are working a smaller subset of Wayne County superintendents. There's six of us at the table.
100We've been exploring potential pathways. Um we've landed on and obviously could not take any action without board action and thinking we may need to engage in some type of a study to look at pathways across our county. Back in 2010, there was this incredible regional high school feasibility study. Were you on the board at that time? Yes. Uh at that time it would have been Maria and I can't remember her last name. Superends >> how is it >> uh so Maria Aysman obviously would have been the superintendent side. This is a very comprehensive my goodness 15 16 years ago they were saying hey gee to prevent us from having sustainability issues down the road. There's some great recommendations. It is very unfortunate that upon completion of this study districts didn't take the actions. There's some
101that's legislative in nature, meaning we would have had to lobby with New York State to actually uh make some of these things happen. But we really have now reached a place where we're saying not a merger study. We're saying a study to think about what possibilities might make sense for our county. So this would not be a Wayne Fingerlake study. We look at as potentially inviting all of the Wayne County school districts to participate. An action step we identified is let's knock on New York State Ed's door and say, "Hey, by any chance might we get funding for this study because this helps you, right? Like we're all in the same boat in small rural school districts." We did get an answer. There is not funding from New York State. However, uh there is a
102model from um oh my goodness, I just lost the name of Boseies. Uh in there is a Boseies currently that is doing what they're calling an efficiency study where they're looking at could you explore regional high schools? might you explore maybe mergers but they explore all of it. It's the whole menu really when I think about the experience that this board and our group had with uh the work we did with Marian around a merger study it was too narrow a scope the discussions this would not be that this would be explore the whole menu of what potent what are the possibilities for Wayne County schools uh and we're hoping that as a result of doing it through Boseies it would be a nominal expense for the district not 50 to $100,000 again obviously I
103can't authorize such action without bringing it back to you. We're early on in this stage. We would have to do an RFP process. And so I will keep you apprised. But that I would say is probably the most uh important update this evening is that we are preparing and positioning to potentially ask our boards of education to engage in some type of a study. Again, not a merger study or uh annexation study. It would be a full menu of possibilities study. next steps. Uh we're going to meet with you uh in not too not in the not too distant future, a couple weeks, we're going to be taking you through the annual report that will allow for us to talk about what's gone well, what are potentially things we need to cons continue to consider.
104Once we this team has had an opportunity to meet with the board of education, I will spend days ad nauseium with my team in looking at uh strategic planning and saying what is the uh what are the implications of our data and how does that shift potentially our thinking about the actions that we plan to take and what we will take for 2627. And that concludes our year in review. Any questions? And I am not giving facilities update tonight. Thank you. >> Thank you. Thank you all. That was that was amazing. >> Okay. Uh district committee reports. The only committee listed district events. There are many of them. Um, and I'm not gonna read them all because it's a long list that time of year. Uh, four county school boards association for the time you
105presented with me today. Um, so Mr. D, my mom actually sent me a picture of you today in your pumpkin because I was traveling home from Minneapolis today. I was supposed to be home this morning, but um, she volunteered to help cover me and she thought it was fantastic. She's not been to probably a field day since my brother was in school in the late 90s. >> That's something that we could probably >> Please do. AR >> graduation. >> No, I feel like that would be a withdrawal. That's it's too formal an event. Sorry. >> Board meeting maybe, but graduation. No, >> please don't do that. So, uh, we've had a really, um, busy few weeks. Uh, one of the first things that we just finished up doing was our tattoo a teacher or tap
106the staff, uh, fundraisers that we did at the middle school and high school. Um, the staff really seemed to enjoy it. We had, uh, 17 individuals from the high school sign up and 21 from the middle school. Um, Miss Hannah won at the high school for a number of tattoos and Miss RDE at the middle school and she had an overwhelming number of tattoos. So, that was it was really fun. A lot of other school districts I heard Sodas was doing it, North Rose. Um, so it it's a nice fun easy one to do that doesn't take a lot of effort. Um, and it just it you know it's it's fun. It's it got everybody involved. A >> lot of effort you get involved. Um, so we, like I said, we had a busy few
107weeks um with members volunteering at different events. Um, this includes the K through2 Festival of the Arts and Grandparents Day. one evening um on Thursday we had uh people at the grades three and four festival of the arts, the high school pops concert and then um we also had two individuals representing our PTSA at the Jese Valley Region PTA spring conference. Um so the Jese Valley region PTA includes uh school districts from Monroe, Ontario, Wayne, Livingston, Yates, and Senica counties. Um obviously not all districts actually have PTAs. A lot of them are PTO's. So this um does not include their numbers but within those counties there are 38 school districts with PTAs or PTSAs and with that there is over 80 individual PTA or PTSA units. Multiple school districts um have some PTAs just for
108individual buildings. So like Fairport has one for each building. I can't even imagine dealing with that. Um but one of the observations uh Lucha Copeland and Stephan went on our behalf that they brought back. Um even some of our larger suburban counterparts uh experience a lot of the same issues that we do even at smaller school districts. Um there was one uh I'm not going to bring up dance because I don't know how public it is. Um but a very large suburban school district in Monroe County um they couldn't even get a treasurer for this next year. like nobody stepped up to do it and that's a required position to have. So I don't know what they're doing to fix that but um it it was just kind of an interesting observation that they brought
109back to us. Um so at the event we were actually recognized for achievement of our three previous state awards which Miss Addie is here holding for us. Um, and those awards include, just as a recap, um, reaching 75% of our membership goal by October 31st, reaching 100% of our membership goal for the year, and having 20% of our members be students. Um, we are one of the few school districts that were recognized for three or more awards received this year. And then I'm also happy to share um last week we received a fourth award from the state. Uh it's the good apple membership growth award at the bronze level for being in good standing um with our dues and insurance and exceeding 25% growth over the last year in our membership. Um so some things
110that we've done over the last year uh we've had we've really been pushing on the Boxtops program to bring light to it. It's something really easy to do because it's all through an app now. There's no more clipping and cutting. Um, so you just scan your receipt, they figure out the math. Um, so normally, uh, with that, you can assign that you want to give your credit to one of the buildings or even down to the grade level. Uh, we don't break it out that way in recognition of how we've, uh, received the money. Um, but typically for the middle school, we only bring in about $58 a year. Uh we just hit $200 for middle school. Uh the elementary school is at $200 as well. And elementary school always does really well at fundraisers.
111Parents haven't achieved burnout of all the things going on. Um so we know that they'll always be a big win there. Um I wrote a lot of notes on the plane today. Um I'm incredibly proud of what the group has done over the last few years. Uh when I joined in um September 2022, the group was about to completely fold for those of you who remember, primarily due to the lack of members and volunteers. Uh we now have an incredibly healthy membership and a solid group of volunteers. We've had fresh ideas um which include things as simple as certific certificates of recognition for our staff who have joined memberships. Um there was actually a couple of staff who um they signed up late and I didn't get them and they're like where's where's my certificate?
112It's not outside my door when I saw everybody else's. So it was really fun to have. Um we've also had several new events over the last few years including our kindergarten night which is um allows our kindergarten families to come in and meet one another. It's really great for any incoming kindergarten families that did not participate in UPK. Um, we have, uh, started doing our own trick-or- treat event that is open to the community. Um, we've had our game night that's hosted in conjunction with, um, the book fair. Uh, we've had new fundraisers which include our spirit wear this year. Um, obviously tattoo a teacher. Um, we've been receiving uh, more awards, you know, obviously each year and recognition. We've been receiving private donations from different community members and also uh a donation last year
113from our middle school volunteer club. And then making sure I'm covering all my points. Uh a special thank you um goes to um our admin and the district who helps support our group and promoting us and in their messaging and at different events. um having us speak to the district before the school year kicks off um and allowing and figuring out a way for us to do the paycheck deduction has definitely been uh a huge help and I hope you continue to offer that to my successors. Uh and finally, um I did this at the end of last year uh by the numbers I went through. We had volunteers at 38 different events. Um last year we were only at 33. Uh conservatively um we did at least 450 person hours at events that does
114not include meetings. That does not include event planning. That is actually at the event itself. Um and last year we did about 400. Uh and then also uh this year we had 101 members 101 members and uh last year we were at 70. So definitely huge years of growth and I look forward to the next year carrying it on. So and I will probably come to more meetings but I won't necessarily be presenting. So okay board reports. I need a motion to approve the cse case. >> Salute. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> All in favor? >> Opposed? Passes 5. I need a motion to approve the May treasurer's report. >> So move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? No. All >> in favor? Oppos? Passes. 5 spring sports report while we're pulling up the presentation.
115Um I think moving forward if we're going to continue doing the season by season sports report I want to provide different and adult data to like how many athletes are participating. there multiple score athletes participating as we go through it. It' be nice to capture what our our students are doing. So, um season at a glance. Next slide, please. So, we had seven spring teams um about 125 uh student athletes, six teams made it to sectional play. Uh and 33, that's incredible. 33 out of 125 students had individual or relay honors um in those sports. It was a banner year for our track team as that's a common theme in our running um sports from cross country to indoor to outdoor. Next slide. So our boys track uh we were first divisional champions, second in
116league champs and third in section 5 class C3. a couple honors there from Bergraph. He was the 400 meter hurdles. I'm not going to read through all these. There's so many. You can read them yourself. Um important ones that uh Ben Burns, he broke the school record in the 800 meter and medal for states finishing sixth in class which is very very impressive. Moving forward to our girls. Um, division 2 champs, Wayne Fingerlakes champs, section five, class C2 champs, and sectional champs. If you were, um, I believe I saw many of you at the sports awards um, a couple days ago. It was really, really impressive. and um tug on my heartstrings a little bit listening to Miss Alexander talk about the incredible achievements of this group from eighth grade year for this group all
117their seniors all the way up to their senior year um specifically Hannah and Lauren Mel Hannah Governor and Lawrence Mel you can see as we go through to the next slide all of the individual honors that um they have achieved and Hannah and listening to Joanna talk about the most the fastest runner in Williamson history. That was pretty cool to hear and um just we're in a room of greatness right now. So you can I'm not again I'm not going to read through all of them. Uh but finishing as the state champion in class C um in the 1500 and the 3000 for a governor in fourth federation second federation that is very very impressive. You can see the school records broking side which are already there varsity baseball team. So, if you ask Coach
118Bows at the beginning of the year, ask myself, I was very um excited for this season. Not that it was not exciting, but I think didn't quite meet the expectations that they were looking for. Now, if you look at the and coach Bowen spoke on this, if you look at the C1 um schools in that division, four of those schools were either the first in that class um for sectionals, and that just shows how competitive that C1 is. Uh we finished seven and nine. Uh obviously one and one in postseason and we had first team honors with Kayen Watson and David DeFisher. Next slide. JV baseball was very impressive. They went 10 and five. A lot of freshmen on on this team. Looking forward to next year. It's going to be very competitive talking to
119Coach Thomas and Coach Bowens. Um, and that's is really it's exciting to hear like that's a great problem to have that we're going to have a competitive um varsity team or competitive JV team just because of the numbers um that we are providing. You see there eight of those 16 players were freshman. Next slide. Varsity softball. The record here does not represent the growth that the girls demonstrated. Uh there were 10 student athletes on this team with one um having an injury early in the season. So that was nine. Um so if there was any injuries or any complications during the game, we're playing down eight of the nine players um which occurred in our last sectional game which we were actually winning going into the fourth fourth inning I believe. But uh essentially it
120was a JV softball team playing at the varsity level with a couple seniors and juniors and the coach coach Newbie um did a fantastic job. in my opinion of um seeing the positive and providing opportunities of growth and definitely looking forward to seeing the um what the girls can do next year. They're already talking about offseason work moving forward. Next slide. Uh boys varsity tennis coach El Furland, they went eight and six. Um definitely exceeded their expectations here. If you talk to coach Furland, um there were a lot of firsttime players um or second time players. They fell to Lions in the sectional quarterfinals. Um Ethan Niles and Brett Bay, they were second team all county in doubles and Jesse Lebert was first team in all county in Wayne County. Our varsity flight football team
121went eight and five which uh quadrupled their wins from the previous year which is pretty cool. Our league standing we were third. We are a shared team with Sodas and Marion. Um, Coach is doing a really good job of developing in my conversation with Ashton uh this afternoon, like what I we need to start working on is our development from the modified all the way up to to varsity. And he is an example of he's at practices. He's putting the time in with the coaches, the modified level, teaching technique, really cares. If you can see, he he wants to have a or we will have a modified camp and a varsity camp this summer. and the hopes of having elementary PE unit and to touch on flag football. So, he's very invested which is cool
122to have here in Lson. Uh JC born here first team for records at a glance. You can take a look at that slide. Next one please. Postseason highlights. Next one. The one I want to touch on looking ahead. So in all my uh meetings like I asked what are we missing like where where are we where are we dropping the ball in each not necessarily dropping the ball but what can improve and one that talking with coach Bowens he said what do you think of reaching out now to a indoor facility so we can have uh indoor tryyous because it's going to be a competitive class we want to make sure we're assessing the boys correctly. I said well let's do this for baseball and softball. We're not just doing it for baseball. Um, so
123I've reached out to um facilities in Webster and we are scheduled slotted so we have that in the books already. If we don't need it then we can um just go outside. But I really enjoy the end of the year meetings. Um but we do have some cracks in the court that I've talked to Mr. Canwell that he can fix. Um, so on top of that already and like I said for flag football, there's a camp for botified and then potentially let's let's see how we can target our younger students at elementary level for some of the upcoming sports. That is it. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Okay, moving on to the consent agenda. I need a motion to approve consumption agenda items 6B through 6B as recommended by the superintendent. So move. >>
124Any discussion? All in >> favor? I need a motion to approve the page. >> The retirement reservation as presented. So >> any discussion >> just like to note that she's a diehard Red Sox fan. >> Yeah. >> I tell her every single morning that they were in last place. It's bittersweet for her. It's bittersweet. >> All in favor? >> I oppose. >> Passes 5. I need a motion to approve the summer appointments and approvals as presented. >> Any discussion? All in favor? Opposed? passes 5 Z. I need a motion to approve the summer appointments and approvals as presented. >> Salute. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed abstain. Passes 401. I need a motion to approve the summer appointments and approvals as presented. >> So moved. >> Second. Any discussion? All in favor?
125>> Oppos? >> Pass it. 401. Old business. I need a motion to approve the second reading and adopt the policies presented for move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes. izer uh summer dates and the 2026 27 meeting calendar. >> So we have to add a meeting April 28th. That was one of the things and you wanted to talk about timing, right? >> Yeah. Do we want to just do what we've done in the past and do a 7 am meeting for work or would you rather >> that's the vote >> because there's sometimes it aligns with our meetings and sometimes it doesn't and they're saying >> it's probably not going to meet >> it twice >> more often than not it does not >> correct >> so we've done
126a se special meeting just for that. >> And I think the last years we've done it in the morning. >> Yeah. >> Or the last several times, I should say. >> Um, >> I would vote for doing it early in the morning. >> Okay. >> I don't know what anybody else thinks. >> 6 a.m. is good. >> 6 a.m. No. >> Three minutes. >> Yeah. because it would just especially if we have a meeting the week before, >> it would literally just be voting on there >> and we're not going to put anything else on. >> Zero additional items on the agenda count agenda. >> We did at seven, right? >> Seven. Yeah. >> Does that work for everybody? >> Yeah. >> And technically, we only need three people, >> right? >> Correct. >> So,
127if somebody can't correct, >> we have to have at least three. >> All right. So >> cuz again that's all that we'll talk about. >> That's it. So it would not make any sense to >> that would be um with an address on >> that would be a yellow meeting with business only. >> Um yeah but anything I had with >> No just one business. Just one minute at 7 a.m. for one business. One item agenda, >> they'll be read. >> No. Um, did I know we don't actually act on these and uh approve them until the reorg meeting, but does anybody have any other ones I know of that are problematic? >> Like in addition to the one we've already talked about. >> Yeah, I think she already changed some of them based on
128what we talked about before a couple meetings ago. The the only thing I would say is we need earlier this year or meetings would be kind of closer to winter time >> to get here for 5:30 or 4:30. >> We have the early ones >> when we have the early on. >> So we kind of already talked about maybe doing some of the early ones on a on a different policy on a different day just because the hour isn't always >> isn't enough >> enough time. >> Okay. >> It's been a while since we last talked about it, but >> yeah. Oh, I was like, I already did it 4:30 before the board meeting. >> Okay. >> But yeah, >> well, and we've had before where there's >> meetings before the board meeting and if
129somebody's coming from work, they just come in late. As long as we have three people, >> right? Yeah. >> We just have to have three to be able to start. If we're And if we're going to keep the committee at five also, I mean, we just go to if you want to continue to keep everyone on the policy and on the audit. >> Oh, five people. Got it. >> Five people. Yeah. >> Gotcha. >> Because we don't have to stream if it's three or less. >> That's true. Okay. >> Three. Three year less or three or less because it's >> no two of us. Yes. >> If there's three of us, we would have to stream because it's >> and no regulatory requirement that says already have to be on. I mean, you could have
130two people serve and then you presside during an open meeting >> if your desire. Um, I know we have down July 9th and I think I texted at one point that I might have a conflict. I actually have two on the night. So, I would appreciate if we didn't meet on, but I don't know if there's another day that we can because of all the other stuff. 14. >> No, it was the 9th. >> Well, we had the 14th also, but right now there's the 9th, the 14th, and the 15th. >> And according to this, the Nord. >> Yes. >> Reorder is the 14th, but then we had a half day. >> Yeah. >> January 4th >> before that. >> And this says the 9th was supposed to be us, Bridget, and Karen. >> Yeah.
131that we were going to do the initial presentation on the annual report that the rest of the team would be excused from. So, are you saying we need to think about an alternate configuration? >> I would appreciate it if we could. >> Can we keep it in the evenings though? >> Can we do it on the 8th >> and just do it the day before? >> Any for July? I could do that. I think so. >> I think work a little early to make that happen. That also was uh we had left uh the additional meeting scheduled for the 14th. We could go with the 14th and then determine if we need the additional time. That would be us saying ambitiously that we could try and get through the content on the 14th. and one.
132>> I'm okay either, right? >> We were going to we kept the 9th just and then >> we were meeting the 9th and then kept the 14th in case we needed the 14th. So the 9th would have been the preliminary, but we could shift that and have a meeting that the 14th is the preliminary and then we determine if we need another date because then we have the whole day the 15th 8:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. basically 12 hours refer to the case. So get rid of the ninth and just do the 14. >> One to five between still 1 to 5. All right. >> 1 to 5 and then do our meeting effectively. >> Oh, the 14th. >> Yeah. Would you want to expand the 14th and start a little bit earlier or is
133that inconvenient with what you've taken for time? >> I've taken we started at noon, move to five, five hours and just have a an extremely focused data driven dialogue about the annual report. Jeff, does that cut into your time or are you already taking that day? >> No, I'll just you have vacation time. Doesn't matter. >> So, is there a preference or one? >> It's irrelevant. >> Reset irrelevant Sarah. Um, but I think I took the whole day off, so that should work out. Do you want lunch? I see. Yes. >> Oh, I didn't take off the whole thing, >> but I did have to take time off in the night. So, maybe I can state my case there. So, when you said the whole day for the 14th, >> noon noon. So 12 to
1345 and then reorgan 12 minute meeting >> and then you're going to take off our calendar the night. >> I'll take it off right now. >> Okay. >> I'd love to watch you take it off all our calendar. >> So I'm looking at it right now. >> Correct. We're not doing the 8th or the 9th. >> We're just doing the 14th from 12 to 5. And then we all magic. It's Thank you. >> Anybody have anything else for the summer game for the calendar for next year? Uh, new business. Um, I need a motion. So, Kelly, we're going to throw you for a little second. >> Okay. >> We're gonna I need a motion to approve the or to wave the first and second reading of policy 6160 and adopt it. >> 6480. >> Sorry,
135I read the wrong one. 6480. I read the wrong one. >> Okay, hold on a second. I'm just gonna do a motion here. All right. So, we want to wave the first and second reading and adopt and then we want to table the other two. >> All right. So, we're just going to move twice. >> Okay. Let me fix the other one. I wasn't sure what would be easier for you. >> You want me to make a motion? >> You can, but I'm waiting for her to catch up. >> I make the motion to approve. >> Oh, no. if you wave the first and second readings and and adopt policy 6480. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> All in favor? >> I >> opposed. >> I make a motion to table policies 6160 and 6171.
136>> Second. >> Any discussion? this table >> leave it on the table. >> All in favor? >> Thanks, Kelly. >> No problem. >> Okay. I need a motion to approve the creation of food service events coordinator stipen position. >> So moved. Second. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes 5. >> I need a motion to approve the memorandum of agreement with WFA regarding additional course reimbursement for those pursuing a TE certification. >> So move. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I oppose. Passes 5. I need a motion to approve the discarded list of books from the Williamson Elementary School Library. >> So moved. >> Second. Any discussion? >> All in favor? >> I opposed passes. 5. I need a motion to approve the mic cut off. >> Oh yeah. >> Okay.
137It didn't cut off. >> It's not there. I need a motion to approve the 2026 27 2027 high school course offering workbased learning experience. >> I thought it was because it got cut off. >> Yeah. Any discussion? >> Just want to thank Dr. Snyder and Karen Hoodie for their work to develop a new course. we will be able to roll out workbased learning experiences for students in January of 2027.
