001Good evening everyone. >> Sorry we're starting late. We finished one meeting. I had to check with Bridget and now we're ready to start the next one. So I'd like to call the meeting to order with the allegiance and I pledge to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. >> Uh no anticipated executive session at this time. Okay. Um, any announcements? The only announcement I have is that Mr. Governor is not here this evening. He's traveling for a family event. So, he won't be back. So, we can go right to student highlights. >> Our student highlights are going to be embedded into our building highlights. >> Okay. So stand by for that later
002please. >> Okay. Um reports to the board. Hi. Um, as I was gathering the input the past few weeks, I thought of the, um, sudden idea that maybe when I'm presenting, uh, maybe my presentation should come after the administrator's presentation because oftent times that the administr the administrators introduce something and explain on it further while I provide the student in input over that particular uh, topic or thing. And if I go first, usually it feels like I'm introducing something that will be later addressed and that whole thing just seems redundant to have to um introduce something that's going to be introduced later. With that being said, um now I'm going to talk about u some new thing that happened at the high school. Um a new uh I want to say like app was uh
003launched securely for um for us. high school has transferred the building um in a secure and organized manner compared to the Google Docs that we had last time and you know this significantly has reduced the number of incident incidents where kids were uh were not supposed to be. Um obviously this the students and teachers have recognized this and both see that uh there's also a learning curve that goes along with that and some people may be frustrated by it. Um, you can hear that from the screens, but it, as with everything, it'll smooth out. Same thing with the phones and how it's been all this year and the years past. Um, I also thought that the students were happy to see the agreement. The email this morning stating the agreement between uh us and Bishop
004Carney for football. Basically, they're bouncing off the balls. They're very happy about that. And now they're asking the questions of logistics like how many people how many boys can participate? able to be tryyous, those sort of questions that they're asking the district to um to answer for us. And finally, this is more of a highlight, but students have had the chance to meet with superintendent over the past few weeks. Um, and one student input uh that I felt was very uh very important to highlight is the that uh students look to optimize the transparency between the core selection process as the administrators know. Um and for like for example providing backup electives in case of the primary electives if they don't get their way and if they don't get their primary elective maybe they can
005get their secondary electives um just to smooth out the process so there's less confusion and less frustration that goes into it. Uh yeah that's what I'd like to report to the board today >> and you can take that to the students that were going to move forward with that recommendation. So >> awesome. Yeah that's great. Okay. Reports from district administrators. >> And so at the elementary level, Mr. Drestler, >> can we include uh state testing? We're going to get after it. State testing was completed in ELA last week. It went off fantastically. Students really put forth a lot of effort. We we try to express an importance on really just making sure you are trying your best and if you do that you try your best at this we will um we'll end up doing
006okay. Um, with that said, we've also introduced, which you'll hear in a lot of our building highlights, is we had another um, planning for a pride assembly coming up, which the students are very excited about. And I've looked outside and noticed that it is still light outside. So, sometimes when the day extends itself, some increase in questionable choices begin to occur with some of our students. So you'll hear in our again our our building highlights, we're really just re-emphasizing our behavioral matrices, our station rotations around our building, making sure that teachers feel supported um and supporting students. So we do that through again just continued empowerment of our students in multiple ways which we're going to get into later with our building highlights. >> Mr. Dler at middle school, Miss Taylor. >> Good evening everyone.
007Uh again to echo Mr. Dressler as part of our student achievement uh yesterday and today our students uh took the DLA state test and um I'm happy to report for those students that taking it we had budgeted a certain amount of time for our students to take it approximately two hours and a large portion of our building we had to actually extend the time because the students were working diligently and focused and it sort of warmed my heart both days that um and actually today we actually had to take email and it was the writing portion take even a little bit more time. So, it really said that those students who were focused and engaged and taking it were taking it very seriously. So, we are very very pleased with that. And um as part
008of our second, it's kind of a blend of culture of caring and community connections. I'm very happy to report that our second annual international fest will be happening in the middle school this year. And that was a big hit. Our students um each bit each classroom and office takes a country and students walk around with a passport and they get their passport stamp and the amount of dialogue that that starts among students like you know what it let me see your passport let me see yours it it applies their learning geography reading etc so it's very exciting and this is led by our art teacher Cat Baldwin she does an amazing job and the whole building gets behind it so we are very excited >> great thank you and from high school Dr. Ser. >>
009All right. [clears throat] A couple things. One, had a great interaction. I had a phone call this week from a student from a different district who called and said, "Hey, uh, I am a class president uh, of my class at neighboring district and I'm calling because we have a date problem and I heard you guys are crushing it at Williamson." And she wants to address it and she was like, "I want to know your feedback. I want to know what you purchased. I want to know what hoops you had to jump through, but I'm frustrated what's going on in my district." Um, so I don't know why this kid knows about this, but a junior in other district and she's like, "Can I talk to you?" And so great kid. Um, I gave her all
010the information I had to [laughter] help her out. And then I and then I called her principal, let her know that let her know that they may be having a meeting soon. [laughter] That was really um, as Ronin said, we also launched securely this week at the high school. It is clunky at first, but I think it's, you know, intuitive in nature. Uh it's like two clicks and you can send a kid out of the room and two clicks and you can get them where they are. Um it's been really helpful in the office. Um we're tracking kids. I had a meeting with a kid this week who was frustrated and let them out of the room. And I said, "Hey buddy, you've had eight passes over six periods." Like that's a lot of times
011to have to go to the bathroom. Do we have to call a doctor or are you just going to the bathroom while I'm waiting class? Um so it's been really nice to be able to track those things in real time. Uh but also just general accountability. We know when kids aren't really supposed to be a parent comes from the door looking for their kid. they may have signed out of the lunchroom to go hang out in the band room and we can say that we know where your kid is. Um so that's just nice to be able to go. So that's the security and the accountability. Um we also have been reviewing with students to speak in forum our culture of care survey results that we got. Um we gave it to um students and
012staff in the fall and again in the spring. So just reviewing opportunities that kids actually gave uh our students gave an opport uh suggestions for growth at the building for building relationship to teachers, adding accountability to students. And so we've been reviewing some of those points of students throughout the month. Um and then I've been working with Superintendent Ashton our at our next meeting we're hoping to bring our senior trip for next year um forward, but we wanted to tighten some of the overnight field trip processes first before we did that. um everything from accountability in ourselves of making sure we're checking all of our safety and security measures for students to also making sure like we're insured and the kids have an opportunity to fund raise for any trip that's going to be of
013a certain expense. Um so we'll bring that forward in May. >> Thank you very much Dr. >> Athletics. Mr. I wanted to touch on a challenge we are facing in the athletic um department which is affecting programming. It's our field usage for particularly softball and baseball. So to give a little background, I'm getting a lot of phone calls from coaches like, "Can I please get on the field today?" Unfortunately, no, you can't get on the field today. If we get on the field today and tear it up, we're not going to be able to get on the field for longer. And that is extremely frustrating. um as a former coach having to like be in a parking lot, be in a gym and can't get the chemistry with with that team. So, it's okay data
014informed approach to this and >> I asked the Wayne um school districts, are you having the same challenge as me here in Williamson? What are you doing about it? and or um can you help me a little bit with explaining if you are having some success what what is that? So, taking a look at this and I know some of you are getting it right now. Um we are it's pretty average looking through Williamson all the way through East Rochester. So, every school district is having challenges with the weather. Obviously, it's a wet spring and that is going to cause issues with getting on the field. We've had two practices to date for varsity baseball and varsity softball on a field. And that's not just on the varsity field, that's on a baseball field, which
015is the modified one behind us. And it's really frustrating if you look at East Rochester, who has had around 15 to 18 outdoor practices. Um, why is that? I think just demographically they're in a different spot than we are. Um so someone similar to us uh even they've been out five times. Um that athletic director director explained just very frustrated about what's going on. They have good fields there. So I would say Williamson is not um not far from the the norm here and every district is having challenges. Unfortunately we don't have the means here to go out and get turf time. Um, why? Because we could, but other districts, bigger districts are already reserving the those places. So, FLCC, I've tried there, I've tried to MCC, I've tried at um even here in Newark.
016And they're not going to give practice time where they're going to schedule games there. So, more out of the box thinking, I think, for the future, um, and how we can address this, maybe just getting some fields fixed in our own campus here. So, we're not sharing with a modified field. That's not the same for a varsity field. But, I want to commend the coaches for what they're and the athletes for um doing more with less and getting our kids ready to compete and I can understand the frustration from both them athletes and parents. I'm not taking those phone calls and frustration likely. So, just want to give a quick update on that. Secondly, um the banners. So, I'm in the process of uh setting out communication, setting setting up the committee for what are
017we going to do with the banners, how are we going to address it, are we going to take the banners down, how are we going to preserve them. So, that email should be coming out here in the next week or so of community members, students, um alumni to come together and answer those questions. I'll take this in future meeting about that. >> Any questions about the fields or process? refresh my memory when we did the capital rope. I know that was for mostly turf turf infield grass out here at the high school. Did we look at what would it take to make our field on our campus playable instead of using the town field like for practices and that kind of stuff? >> So if we use that same space there, yes, we could look
018at using that own space, nothing back um here on campus. So all it would be is take the the cost of whatever that turf is and just take that out. But that's a big project because they're doing irrigation underneath. They're doing a lot of leveling which is okay. >> Okay. >> Turn the orientation off. I feel like the orientation had to be completely >> Are you saying the same field that we have set up right now? >> Well, we don't have set up at the high school. >> It was much more than just turf. The expend the expenditure was far greater than just the turf. I mean, it's orientation. It was the irrigation. Uh I think even talked about the >> So, I guess let me rephrase. Is did we look at what it would
019take to I might not use the right words. Bring whatever field we did have at some point because I know we did at some point back into playable condition. >> Yes. So, it's a >> I don't know if that's the right way to say it. >> We did have an old field there. Um I think it's now a looks more like a kickball field just because of wear and tear throughout the years. um to make that playable, it would still cost us significantly. >> Okay. >> And there was something about the back I'm going to say too, like the clay, whatever was actually spread out underneath the actual grass like that is disintegrated like it it's it's a significant expenditure regardless of whether we used or wanted >> whether you went the turf route or
020not, you still have to do a lot to >> Yes. make the existing >> I mean we have I don't have it with me here this evening but I could even pull from the original scope of work I mean I could disagregate out what the turf cost was out of the I'm rounding right now but $4 million that it would have cost for us to do the project I could disagregate out the turf and it was still millions >> did you decide the turf over the long run was actually cheaper than >> maintenance that c Yeah, the out the outfield was grass, right? >> Yeah, it was going to be on the infield turf. The outfield would have been uh an alternate. So, if we ended up being under budget, potentially we could have expanded
021into the outfield. [clears throat] >> If they don't practice indoor, where do they >> So, that's another challenge we have because the gym floor right now. >> Um, no. also have going to cages, parking lots, using elementary, middle school, which is not ideal at all just because they're so small. So, yeah, I feel for our coaches and athletes right now. >> Talk, Brian. Do you know if it would be possible for facilities to at least prepare that upper side field? This was going to be the plan was going to be for at least practice. Could they roll the grass, put some clay down, and use a Bley's practice to get outside more? Would a stone have the same irrigation problems? >> For it to be just for me to say for them to be safe
022on the field, it would cost some money if just because it's so unlevel and bumps and angles and it could be >> Well, I mean, we played on that part. >> I guess I wonder if there's like if there's like practice, maybe not a whole field, but practice parts that we could create like a pitcher mound and a a batter's box where they could just practice pitching and hitting, right? >> So, we we have that. >> We I went out and got three pitchers mounds actually this year um for that for that reason. Uh we dropped a cage down. Obviously with the gym gym floor being done right now, we couldn't do that, but they're definitely thinking out of the box doing different things to to work on >> because this is this is really
023a problem every year, right? I mean, just >> wet area. So, >> any further questions for Brian? >> Thank you for the update. really appreciate it from the office of people personnel services, Miss Miller. >> Hello. Um, I would like to highlight our community connections. First, our PPS department. Yesterday, our counselors and our mental health staff were able to meet with CPAC representatives from Wayne County, which was really exciting for them. You know, thinking about our students and their mental health concerns. It was a really great opportunity for them to um look at Wayne County resources so they um can work across our county to support those students. Um, also as part of my comprehensive needs assessment and sending students out of district when we really have those students, I really want to get my
024eyes on what those out of district placements look like. So, our schools like at the elementary school and myself were able to get um to one of the hillside campuses and Mary Kariola this month. So, that was really exciting to see those placements and um see our students in action there. Um, we are in the heat um to talk about student achievement. We are in the process of planning our extended school year program. Um really excited looking forward to spending the summer with our students um and uh securing programming for them this summer. Um with state testing, I know on IEPs we have many testing accommodations to help our students with disabilities really access uh that state test. So I commend um our guidance office secretaries for really um getting those schedules in place, securing
025those testers. because I know that that's a very heavy lift for them, but I think that they did very well um last week at the elementary school and this week at the middle school. Um I was able to do a drop in today at the middle school and I met with some teachers um about that needs assessment. Again, some highlights, they really said that we do a great job um as a special education department, really integrating our students in those general ed settings, really helping them to access that curriculum. Um something to focus on next year. I know that we have a lot of high need students with high significant behavior. So looking at how we can address that next year in a more comprehensive way um to help our building run efficiently. >> Thank
026you. Thank you. This is one coordinator of instruction innovation and intervention for at least another one. >> Hello Mrs. um I wanted to touch on student achievement a little bit. Um as you know the New York State is moving towards the portrait of a graduate. So, as part of that work with Portrait of a Graduate, um there are certain places where we do have a little bit of information and we're sort of given the yellow light to continue to work ahead and kind of plan for the future. And one of those areas is assessment um and making sure that our uh assessments are standards aligned and comprehensive in terms of supporting our students. And so as part of that work, um the middle school or I'm sorry, the elementary, middle, and high school are all
027going to be um utilizing a new pract for assessment um based on response from the teachers what they're really looking for. So as you know, we've used I Ready in the past. We will be moving away from um I Ready usage. Some of the most probably the most common complaints around I Ready would have been the um time that it takes uh as well as some other assessments but the time that it takes and the fact that the teachers really didn't have any indepth understanding of the questions each student saw a different assessment um and similarly that would be similar for uh reading and math. Um, our K through8 students are going to be moving to something called MClass through Amplify, which the MClass platform is for reading is Dibbles actually. And if you're an
028old school reading teacher, Dibbles has been around for an eternity. Um, and it is evidence-based and is practiced and and just really well respected in the terms of the the work. The difference between this and I Ready would be is that the teachers will be administering it and it's efficient in terms of time. Um, so really looking forward to the teachers having access to that. Um, on the side of the math uh, assessment, the teachers will be able to see how the kids answer directly to all of the questions. And so it's not a flood of questions. It's roughly anywhere between 20 to 30 questions depending on your grade level and the teachers will see the direct answers that the students make. So that's really getting the teachers the input that they've been looking for
029and the understanding about how kids how and why kids are against the way they do. at the high school. Um they're going to be uh exploring a platform called ThinkTech. This year um Dr. Schneider and his team worked with EXL to see if they could find some way to create some sort of benchm benchmarking assessment work there. It didn't um it worked, but it wasn't quite exactly what we were looking for. Think Tech is going to allow all of the teachers access to a wide variety of resources, many of which are, you know, the New York State regions, New York State, the standards, the curriculum, all of those pieces. Um, and create the assessments right then and there in the computer and giving the kids access to taking them on the test with all of
030their test mods. So, you would be able to um program in each individual student's test mods to make sure that every student is getting exactly what they need. Um, and so that's just really an exciting piece. Not, you know, a little balance there. We have our younger kids. Um, definitely working with the teacher, having the teacher administer the assessment, but knowing that as the kids get older, they have to be more independent. So, looking forward to that. It'll be a lot of professional development. Exciting. That's it. Great work. Thank you. and for the business office. >> So tonight I wanted to give an update on the search for the director of facilities. Um as you know we have um been through um interview process. We started with stakeholder committee interviews and we brought in um
03110 candidates. Um from there um based on the confidence ratings and you know that each candidate received, we moved some on to the finalist interviews where they came in and um interviewed with myself and Superintendent Ashton and then um they also went on a building tour with myself. Um so tonight I am or we are [clears throat] putting forward a recommendation for a hire for the director of facilities and hopes for board approval. Um and the candidate would be um Andy Canwell. He is currently an um employee of the district and we are really um excited for the opportunity for him to be the director of facilities. He has done a great job as a mechanic and as previously as a groundskeeper and we were really excited. >> Great. >> Nice job on the process
032by the way. Okay, I will fly through. I don't think I have as many updates as I typically do. Only six pages. Uh I'm really excited actually for nothing. I spent the whole day in user group meetings which I'll talk about in just a moment. But I got back to check my emails and we were identified again uh year five as one of the 2026 best communities for music education. So I would like to give a huge shout out to all of our instrumental and vocal music practitioners who are in the district to our families to the teachers who actually support music instruction while we have pullouts for lessons happening and then of course all of our families uh for their support of music. It's just such a critical asset building uh experience for our
033students. So I'm thrilled that we've been recognized in that way. It's really it's really important to me. I just think it's such an asset building experience. Other good news this week, uh, and, uh, two of the negotiating team members, u, both Angela and Penny Johnson, uh, sat with me on a negotiation scene. Very happy to tell you we reached a tenative agreement with WFA. So, we're happy to say that, uh, they are going to move forward with a tenative agreement. Uh, what happens next is that their unit has to have a vote to ratify the uh, successor CBA, which is collective bargaining agreement. and then at such time that I'll bring that forward and be my recommendation that the board take action and also ratify the agreement from the board's perspective and we have a
034we have a successor TVA which is great news so and it was a very it was a wonderful experience very collaborative I find so uh other updates again this evening I'm very proud of the work we've done in budget development for 2627 and not too many uh minutes from now we're going to be presenting the balance budget for the board to approve this evening uh this is the last draft of the budget Uh just two quick notes on that. Uh we still do not have an approved state budget, meaning the state has not yet released final legislative aid runs for us. And so we do remain hopeful that potentially we'll see additional aid. That will not change our budget projection. It will actually just uh reduce the amount potential of reserves and fund balance that
035we would need to use. So we're still remaining hopeful about that. Uh also very important, I want to give a shout out to Tina Menrin who is going to actually have that uh chicken showdown. And so uh all day the day of the election, she's going to give our students the opportunity to have voice on chicken products for next year. And so just three different offerings, menu offerings, and that will actually drive decision-m from food service around what uh what chicken offering we're going to have for next year. I'm really uh thrilled. And she still is looking, I think, for volunteers to earn some service hours dressing up as a chicken. So we might actually have the guest guest of a chicken during the border or during the annual lunch. So, I don't think it
036gets any more exciting than that. Uh, along those same lines, thinking about the annual election and budget vote, we are we are very strongly positioned for the election of [clears throat] Exopicio Board of Education member. Uh, Ronan, I know you still got a couple meetings left, but I just want to tell you what a pleasure it has been having you sit at the table with us. Your voice has been invaluable, and I hope you see the impact you've had, the contributions of your student body, bringing them forward, and then actually affecting change. tonight, you know, in just again another few moments, uh, Mr. Reco is going to be talking about that shared agreement for a potential football team and that's pretty exciting and you know that that came and that stemmed from conversations you had
037with the student body and bringing that forward. So kudos to you. Uh, I recognize and you and I have spoken about there might be room for enhancements around the actual day-to-day operations of service, but you just did an outstanding job and you absolutely had a voice at the table. So well done. >> Thank you. uh thinking about fiscal responsibility and pathways. I want to make sure I continue to anchor the board into where we are with that. So thinking about shared programming couldn't have been more energized by the initial meeting with a consultant and Sodas Ganana, Marian, Palmac, and Red Creek. Uh the six superintendent and the consultant met last week for our first preliminary conversation about shared programmings and opportunities. And I think it's really important that the board know we're in it for
038a couple different objectives. number one, enhanced opportunities for students. We all landed on them. We have to do better with enhancing electives and opportunities for our students. Uh uh extracurriculars as well. And then secondly, looking at long-term sustainability. What are potential pathways for all of us? Explore. There's nothing off the table right now. We're going into it saying, let's just see the whole menu. What potentially can we create as possibilities for our districts and see where we land. And so very excited about that. Our next meeting is actually next Friday, May 1st. And I think I shared with you openly uh we currently have four meetings scheduled. Uh tomorrow I will be presenting to the rest of the Wayne County side of our districts just so that we give other districts the opportunity to join
039us. We don't want to get too far into the process and then have someone say, "Oh my goodness, really wish we would have jumped in." So tomorrow I'll present to the Wayne County uh CSOS around this opportunity and see if anyone else wants to join us before we get too far into the process. We are actually looking at and some of you have been here I guess long enough Angela probably you only but uh in 2010 there was actually a regionalization study done in Wayne County and so we're actually anchoring into that document. We all had homework that we have to complete before meeting again next Friday and we're actually reading that 138 page uh study. So uh also thinking about fiscal responsibility and pathways exploration. And I did report at the last board meeting
040just about how excited we are about the potential relationship with Boseis. Uh we don't have any definitive update yet other than we will be meeting that first week in May to again continue to explore opportunities around CTE and again thinking about those middleear programming. I do want to share with you openly Boseies is still expressing extreme excitement about the possibility. Our location is prime because we are within 10 minutes of uh WTCC which makes it very accessible for them to potentially expand programming. So, I will continue to provide you updates as they become available. Uh different uh lens, zero emission bus mandates. Uh just important for the board to understand, we've been advised that beginning July 1st, 2027, so a year just over a year from now, uh the New York State Department of Education
041Transportation will no longer be inspecting any buses that are not zero emission buses. So, keep in mind the regulation language hasn't changed, right? like really after 27 we aren't supposed to be able to buy anything other than EV buses unless you have the waiver. So unless you have secured the waiver which [snorts] we will be applying for and we fully anticipate receiving the waiver they will no longer inspect gas diesel fueled buses. So and that's it that's really important for districts to understand moving forward. We continue to have frustrations about that because again as I brought up I think at every juncture when we talk about this we have uh significant concerns about infrastructure and capacity as I presented and Petty presented at our last board meeting. We went to the Wayne County leadership uh
042committee meeting uh and they openly presented about capacity issues in our in our county. So we'll continue to advocate accordingly. >> So even if you get the waiver, they will no longer support >> they will if you have the waiver. If you don't have the waiver, they will not allow you. You have to have the waiver. >> Okay. >> Correct. >> I did see an article this morning that Canada bought two EV buses and they broke before they got to use them. So, >> well, of course, you saw the Naples article, too, right? They had buses that sat for 40 something days. I can't remember the number of days, but it was 40ome days in the cold weather. They couldn't even utilize the buses. So, um, as a result of us attending that meeting, uh,
043one of the representatives there, I did give my card and he reached out and I believe I'm also presenting on that tomorrow at the Wayne County CS meeting around seeing if we want to bring him in. We want to continue to inundate them with the challenges we see with this mandate. Uh, so we attended and now we have another point of contact to invite him in to come in and meet with all of us around the challenges that we all have. There's not one district in Wayne County that is fully executionable as far as being able to move to an evening fleet. It just it no one >> no one is able to do that. >> Do we know if the legislation and I don't remember what the number is but the proposed legislation about
044the exemption for being close to gay traction at all? >> I haven't heard anything more. >> We'll see when the legislative budget comes up if anything comes up. >> Was that one tied to the budget or Or was it a separate proposal? I don't remember. >> I shared it with my colleagues and they said, "Well, that's good for you." [laughter] >> It's only good for It's only good for you if they actually do something. [laughter] >> It's potentially good for you, but >> like I feel the love. Yep. It is good for us. Thank you. >> Uh coming soon, I appreciate something uh Mrs. Norway shared in her update. uh she's working hard on SNA which is strength need assessment uh for the uh pupil personnel services more specifically special education and what that means
045is that will help her to identify what are the areas of you know achievement that we should be celebrating surrounding programming but then also what are the areas of need similarly uh Mrs. Cody and I are are collaborating around offering opportunities for instructional and operational staff to meet with us around strategic planning and the professional learning plan. So we actually are beginning those meetings at the end of April into May and that will provide us the opportunity to a little bit differently than NY's because she's starting at the entry point for us is are we making any progress based on what our current strategic plan objectives are and do folks see any other actionables that we should be considering if we're trying to move the essential objectives. So we will be doing that uh over
046the next couple of weeks. Uh district safety uh I want to give a shout out to Dr. Snider. He's leading work for our building principles around uh development of reunification plan in accordance with regulation. Uh this is something we all building principles and myself we attended a great training. I love you guys. And so we're going to model our reunification plan around their process. And reunification is in the event of a critical incident which required full evacuation of the entirety of our district to an off-site location. how we make sure we safely got all of our uh students back to their respective families. And so this is an important articulation that we need as a district. And I want to give a thank you to Dr. Snyder for taking the lead. He'll be working with
047uh Mr. Dresler and Miss Taylor around making sure that we have the applicable plans for each of the respective buildings. So thank you very much Dr. Snyder. Uh next week, uh the entirety of the administrative team, nursing staff facilities, as I mentioned last meeting, we will be required to participate in the Wayne County emergency management training specific to radiological emergency. Again, this is a required training that all of us must participate in. We'll be reviewing our annexes specific to our drills. Uh following that, important to know uh we will be visited by FEMA. So as a result of the training the accountability measure is we will have at an undisclosed date someone from FEMA will come out and interview each of each of the individuals who had to participate in the training to make sure
048we understand our responsibility in the event there was a radio radiological emergency and then the last update facilities as always uh a couple of quick updates uh the gymnasium floor will not be done on time sorry I think you asked the question or student said it I can't remember who unfortunately we are now hoping for Monday or Tuesday uh the 27th or 28th. So unfortunately we were looking there was an extension from the 17th to the 24th. Uh they had some health issues with some of the team members and now we're looking at another weekend after that. So stay tuned. And then the only other update I really want to bring to your attention because we're really status quo in the 22 project litigation going on. 25 project that's the big update. of today myself
049uh Penny our new our hopefully soon to be appointed new director facilities uh and a number of folks in different user groups met with our architects engineers and I think the other person the tech person >> uh and we this is the opportunity for the users of the spaces to provide input and feedback surrounding the scope of work and in the design phase. So great meetings uh handled extremely efficiently and effectively today. We had I think a series of four to six different dates over the course of the next eight weeks and really we're going to chop those down. Uh people came very prepared to talk about what their hopes and aspirations are. Probably most exciting former teacher principal uh the coral and band spaces. So really exciting to hear Mr. Smith and uh Pat
050Tyler talk about their vision for those spaces and the number of students that they serve in those spaces. So, and that concludes my report for this evening. Thank you. >> Okay. [cough] Uh, district committee reports, we just had policy meeting before this meeting. Um, district events, the Triumph prison concert was April 9th at the high school elementary school interim reports were available April 10th. The grades three and four ELAC tests as mentioned previously were April 15th, the 14th and 15th at the elementary school. The end of the 30we marking period was last Friday the 17th for the middle and high school and the 5th through 8th ELA state testing was Monday and Tuesday this week. Um, four county school boards association and rural schools association. I see you left this up. I did. >> So
051RSVP is by May 1st. >> Yep. So if we're not meeting before that so asking everyone again if anyone would like to go can go and I will get you registered >> and if you can attend it' be great. Rowan will be there. I'll be accompanying him and he will be serving the panel discussion after anyone. >> I think Sarah said she thought she could but she had to look. >> [laughter] >> You just let Callie know and she'll get us all registered together. >> Thank you. Anything else for for county or rural schools? >> You can um PTSA. >> Hi. >> Hello. >> All right. So, I will start with um we got the shirts out for everybody. The spirit shirts with elementary school. This is one of the designs. Um it's been very
052fun being in the building this week and seeing the little kids saying, "Oh, we get a match today." [laughter] Um so, uh being in the building, uh we have Scholastic Book Fair going on this week. It's my favorite week of the year week of the year and I will also be sleeping all weekend after this. >> Um it's been going absolutely fantastic. The kids are all super excited to be there. We had uh Monday and Tuesday were preview days and today was our first shopping day for students coming in with their classes. Uh tomorrow night we are having our game night that is being coordinated by Miss Nancy Miller as well as our family shopping night that will be open from 5:30 to >> 7. Um I don't [laughter] know anything about the game night
053portion. you have >> it will just be an opportunity for families after they are done shopping that they can come in. We'll have literacy resources. That's really the goal is to provide families with resources um for them to read for their students at home. So, we'll have resources for that, snacks and games um to promote reading and learning. That's great. >> I'm all about the delegation, so that's why I didn't know anything about it. Um, and then, uh, next week on Tuesday, we have our Create with Kindness program that'll be at the high school starting at six o'clock on Tuesday night. Um, we have a great team of volunteers signed up. We also have uh, three different uh, high school students who will be panelists for us. Um, I can remember their names right now,
054but it's a Do you go Do you remember their names? Um >> yeah, last name is Frank. >> No, it's Aubrey. >> Aubrey and then St. Mary. >> Yes. Okay. So, those are our three panelists for next week. One of them, our fourth one had to step down because of sports rescheduling. Um we've been promoting it very hard. The school's also pushed out for us on community or through parent square. Um, we are still providing dinner for everybody that attends. We also have door prizes that are free for everybody. So, we've gone big on some stuff. We have a $250 gift card. Uh, a set of Bose noise cancelling headphones that are like $350 value, $50 gift card to Copper Al House. Um we have several other gift certificates from local businesses that were both
055that we both um purchased as well as was donated to us. Um one of the requirements is to have a separate space for students that come under the age of 13 with their families. Uh so we have Anna's Banana Anna's Banana, one of the local child care facilities. Uh they will be providing the supervision and activities for those kids. Um, we're supposed to be in the gym, but um, also we do have backup of that we can use the library. [laughter] Um, Miss Amanda Johnson has said she's on the group that's helping to run this event. So, she said if the gym's not available, you have the library. So, we're [snorts] all set there. Um, and then also, uh, you got it. So, our event was published in the Wayne County Times this week to
056help promote it. So if you hear of anybody talk about it, it's completely free. All of it. We do need people to register so we know how much food to buy. >> What's the deadline to register? >> I don't >> I'm going to say Saturday >> because we have to order the >> I feel like it was on the thing, but I don't >> It's a flexible date because it's all online, but um that's really kind of what it is for the catering. Um uh coming up we have plenty of Oh, sorry. Another uh recap is that uh going right before spring break, we had the sunshine carts go around the different buildings um that was organized and it was a hit. We had we received an email from one teacher who said, "I was
057just having the worst morning and this came around and it just completely changed my day." Uh we also got a really nice card from the middle school staff um thanking us for that and uh setting up an Amazon wish list and pushing that out to the district families was the most amazing thing. People were actually upset that things they couldn't buy anything after like two hours. Everything was like sold out. So if you needed to coordinate anything, Amazon wish list is the way to go. Um, starting next week we have a few roller skating parties for third grade, fourth grade, and then uh, fifth and sixth a little bit later in May. Then we have a concert concert hospitality coming up for the different um, coral and band concerts. Um, we've been asked to be
058at prom here, so I'm going to go prom. Um, and then the students have asked us to help out with some some of their food that they will have there. So, we're working on working that. And then, uh, finally, this is volunteer appreciation week. So, um, I absolutely love all the volunteers we have on the PTSA and I just I cannot thank them enough for all that they do. >> That's it. >> Question. >> Does it look promising? I know you guys have to elect new We Yeah, we did nominations at our meeting last week and we will do the election coming up this month >> at our next meeting on May 13th. So, we do have some good nominations and um some game plans on it. We cannot throw a >> So, do you
059not have nominations for all of the opening? >> Correct. So it's like I've been nominated for two positions like one would be my primary and then because the vice president is not a required seat. Um so like we have to have a president, we have to have a secretary and we have to have a treasurer. >> Okay. So, it's if we don't have somebody or like the treasur spot, I would probably take that. If we do have somebody um because we do have uh some finance people as members um if they are willing to take it, I would then just go into the vice president likely depending on the vote, but that's where I've been nominated for. So, we have some plans in place. We will not fall apart. I promise you. >> Thank you.
060Okay. Board reports. I need a motion to approve the CSK sunlight. >> So move. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes. Four zeros. I need a motion to approve the March treasures report. So moved. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed passes 40. Technology and data privacy update. Hello everyone. I'm just going to give a quick update on the technology department. You can click it. Um this is just an overview of the staff in the department. Um myself, I have an assistant, Jack. Oh, too fast. Um we have three building or four building specialists in um the three buildings and we also have um we also have two part-time edit employees. Um the current state of the technology is that all students are one to one uh grades 6 through
06112 take devices home. We do in repair or in uh district repair unless covered under warranty. This saves us quite a bit of money. Um we implement implemented a case mandate um this past year and we have seen a significant improvement in repair um repair cases. Um we are also on a 4-year device replacement plan for student devices. Um these are our tickets uh statistics. Um this only includes tickets who have been submitted. We are trying to get people away from calling us. Um but that's still an issue. So um this is all of the tickets that have been submitted. Um these are by building level. Um, a big tech update is that we're trans transitioning to Microsoft Intoune, which is a mobile device management software through uh Microsoft and um it improves security efficiency
062for us as the tech department and overall user experience. Um we have started rolling that out already. Um, I've pushed out um signups for teachers to be able to sign up to get their devices imaged. Um, and we are hoping that we will have everyone imaged uh before next school year. Um, other tech updates. Um, Zach and I cleaned out the switch closets over spring break. Um, we are continuously working on cleaning them up as far as wires and whatnot. Um we're working on consolidating software um to make sure that we're using um software efficiently and this may involve switching district licenses the single user licensing and we will will also be implementing Google single sign on for school tool which should come to a relief to a lot of people um the multiple passwords
063a lot of people like um website update. Um Jack and I are working on a website hub for all things technology. It will host our technology um standard operating pro procedures. And we're also hoping to do a like a howto um video platform so that if teachers want to see how to use a specific program um we can give overviews and put links there. Um the 2629 district uh tech plan is required by New York State um education department uh to guide district technology goals and funding and compliance. Um it aligns with their New York State tech plan. um we developed a survey and we imple introduced that to our technology committee to kind of see what um they thought our goal should be. Um Karen and I looked at um survey responses and helped
064shape the way that we um submitted our plan. Um it was then submitted for Agitech to review and then which they approved and then NISA approved as well. Um these are >> schedule by the way. Good job. >> Yeah, way ahead of the deadline. >> Um the tech plan goals that we came up with were enduser computer devices um ensuring equitable access to um high quality reliable computing devices for all students and staff. um and maintaining a replacement cycle for those um network and infrastructure um maintaining a secure wire uh reliable and high performance wireless network um by also implementing a five-year recycle uh replacement plan. Um and then cyber security. Um just building a strong uh culture overall for students and staff um to provide awareness and uh training on risk and promote digital
065responsibilities. Um we also um Boseis conducted a NIST assessment. Um I won't go into all the details there but um we made changes to align to NIST um which is required. Um and we are also improving on data loss prevention features meaning like if you send out an email that probably shouldn't have certain data in it flags it um and won't let you send it out. Um we are creating cyber security rules and responsibilities which will be integrated in our yearly uh vector training to give everyone the status of this is your responsibility as far as cyber security goals goes. Um and no before fishing training. Um this is going to get increasingly difficult. Um and we are also increasing the length of training and this is based on um the increasing threats that we're
066seeing as far as fishing goes. Mostly um we're seeing a very um big uptick in fishing emails and some appearing from other school districts and New York State Department of Education. Um, so I just remind everyone to use caution when opening emails that you don't know who they're from, uh, or opening links. Um, always verify the senders address and report suspic suspicious emails, uh, to us. When in doubt, always call us um, and we will let you know. >> Any questions? I want to know what's happening at the district office that they have almost 126 tickets. [laughter] >> I think every time I call Michaela, she put a ticket. [laughter] >> It's register stuff. I'm going to guess that some of those are port [laughter] >> next up is the elementary school spotlight. Fantastic. If
067it works with inside video. Um, it >> isn't there an attachment on there. [snorts] I will say this volunteer appreciation week, but we appreciate what PTSA does for our Tuesday. So, >> it is incredible and it's been such a special. So, we appreciate very much. >> Yeah, I'll take you back on that. The amount of volunteers that have come through to help supporting exciting >> once they come through the doors never leave and then they'll start on our we'll start think we've hired like three volunteers this year. >> So while we're looking for that I can actually give you a start. Um I look forward to this. Jess and I think look forward to this as far as the elementary spotlight. There are so many things that we could spotlight every single week with all
068of you. I was caught off guard a little bit with uh I guess we're doing this in the beginning because I thought this was going to be my administrative update with Jess. Um but we get to do an administrative update here and a bigger deeper dive. So you'll notice um that highlighted part on there is really we're going to be diving into our action plan, but one component of that really is that culture of caring. So we've built this by way of it's sequential. So if you go in second part of our action plan districtwide in our building in our building planning team with our building entry plan our culture of caring we've really reinvigorated I would say a lot of things that were put in place in previous years um with a mindset that
069says if students and staff felt cared about um and belonging and have relationships and connections then that in turn kind of precipitates student success all about. Um so if you look at the respect the relationships, we're just going to go over some of the things that we've started and refocused on this year and it starts like many things academically focused, behaviorally and support for students and staff is through explicit instruction. I'm going to jump quickly just to this slide. We're going to have Jess talk to this because this is where we started with the explicit instruction for our staff. So, in order for staff to be able to support students, which is part of the behavioral expectations and really looking at reducing um frequent trips to the office or referral data. Justin and the team
070actually put this together last year. If you want to speak to this a little bit and how we did that. >> Yeah, so we um developed this actually with our BBT team. Um did some tweaks with our MTSS teams and presented to the building, got some feedback and again made some tweaks. And then this year revisited again with those teams and again tweaked with the goal of uniting around our pride matrix and the values that this shared values that we have as an elementary school. Um one of the biggest things that kind of drove this work is the relationships that we've developed with students as you're working through a conflict. Um, sometimes when a student comes to me and I'm able to sit and we're able to work through that, it's great work, but I'm
071building that relationship and then trying to transfer that back to the classroom. Whereas, if we can um develop an area where our teachers have the space and the tools to do that work themselves, they're building that relationship with their students in their classroom and in their environment as a whole. Um, and it's able to be transferred right there in their classroom. So that's where we wanted to really kind of make it very clear the steps for taking care of things in your classroom. Not because we don't want to support you and not take care of it, but I would gladly step in and cover your class so you can take care of that with your students so that you can build that development and build that or those relationships and develop the environment that you're
072looking for in your classroom and that culture of care within the classroom and with the teacher. So this is a clear flowchart to just talk about that the warnings and the reteing and the interventions and that's where we can come in to help support with some of those interventions that a teacher can put in place in that classroom. Um but then when a minor becomes a major that's when a different level would step in and we would step in to support the teacher or that student with um different levels of supports. So ultimately it comes down to kind of we've always talked about empowering students, but the first step that we took with our staff is empowering teachers to make sure that they have a handle on their classrooms and that they can handle all
073supports for students. And if it goes beyond that, then that's when Jess and I come to support not only just by ourselves, but we have a whole mental health team that's able to support as well. So that's an explicit teaching. We've actually revisited that behavioral flowchart three or four times, whether it be a building round table or a district round table or a faculty meeting. We revisited that multiple times even with scenarios that are exact referral incidents that teachers wrote up. Um you'll be surprised on how they look at situations outside of when they're in that actual situation. Um so that kind of helps lends it to the explicit teaching is that next cyclical part is you get into those clear expectations across all settings. So, we're going to get into that. The consistent adult
074responses which is built into that as well. And ultimately, just hit on it, it's those strong relationships which ultimately leads to empowering adults. And what we want is empowered students as well. The framework that we took really is there's a behavioral matrix that we have for our school. Um, that's the foundational structure. We'll talk about I don't know what is going up and down here, but sometimes when you go between PowerPoint and Google, it likes to add a couple letters here and there. So, we're just going to go that that says we're doing a great job. [laughter] Um that WS code for great job, Justin Scott. So, thank you for that in [laughter] um that [clears throat] WBSR pride framework. So, there's a district-wide framework, there's a schoolwide framework, but we have frameworks set up
075within every single location and you're going to see those individual matrices. You're going to hear about some stations rotation. This goes back to that explicit modeling, explicit teaching, which again helps that all settings, those expectations going into here. Do you want to talk about this, Jess? Because this is just one example of a location of explicit teaching >> again with our BPT team and then taking it to our staff and getting tweaks and coming back to our BTT team. We just um did not change anything about our pride matrix. just kind of changed the um wording as far as what does perseverance look like in a specific place just so that we were hoping it would be um clearer for the adults and for our students to understand exactly what we are looking for. Um
076so we were able to just rephrase from some of those statements and then we created um posters, new refresh posters for every area in our building. And then we also wanted to just take that a little bit of a step further where our bus drivers have access to it for the bus. So when they are referring to a situation, they say, you know, our our building really takes pride in dignity and this is how we would be showing dignity in this situation. And so they can refer to that. Our playground monitors have little laminated ones that they take right out on their clipboard. So we can constantly be referring back to that, which comes back to the teach piece around that. And again, these are our values. This is what we want to stand for
077as a building. and we can constantly be bringing that back to exactly what it is that we want to stand for. We really we really um think it's important to show responsibility. How can we better show responsibility in this situation at the playground in the cafeteria in the hallway and in the classroom I think is that shared ownership again like administrators, teachers, lunch support staff, monitors, teaching assistants, custodians, everybody has the common language to refer back to. Everybody has the consistent expectation. So that's what everybody's able to do. So it's not me coming in and laying something down as far as a consequence. It's they're hearing the same thing over and over again. So if Jess and I get there, if we're dealing with a situation that's positive or negative, it's oh, you're saying the
078same thing that my teacher just said, and the consequence or the expectation is there. What we did go a little bit further this year and Jess had a great idea is taking the classroom expectations but allowing teachers again when you build ownership you build in the students language within each classroom. So the top one is what is filled out and we'll get to that one. But the bottom left over there, that's the expectations that we have for all classrooms, but every classroom teacher did this during a community circle in their morning or they came up with these are our expectations, but if it changed, they would write underneath there what their class felt that was in their own language. So it's like that classroom constitution that they have. So every again that common language, common
079buyin. It's not the teachers, it's not the students, it's ours. And even up top, so we have students with variability. So some students don't understand the language as well. The picture cues, the teacher came up with the idea of just utilizing pictures. So as they went through it, students can't read what's on there. So they look at the picture and they know the expectations. When we're doing our walkthroughs, these are posted in every one of the classrooms, which is awesome. Talk a little bit about the staff. So again, if you want to empower students, staff are your first step to empowering students as well. So part of empowering students and staff is helping them feel belonging to a community um which is one of my favorite parts. So one of the things we're doing this
080Friday is we are doing to get through these spring months, uh we're doing a cornhole tournament Friday mornings um for anybody that wanted to sign up. So it's a tournament. There are going to be some winners and there's going to be some losers and that's okay because there are lose our part of life. Um but Jess, you want to talk a little bit because you head up a lot of our we have a tier one um building by tier one support and her and the team come up with so many different things that bring our school community together and bring our students together. You want to talk about a couple of these a couple slides? >> What's so fun is the team part of it when we get together it's kind of like okay we
081got to tone this down a little because we have too much planned for the month of May. Um, but we have a team that really does come up with really great ideas. And again, bringing that back to the values, how do we unite around our values? This is one way where our staff unite around our values that we have. So, um, coffee with the principal has been a really great hit and we've had a lot of fun doing that. And then I think in the next couple of slides, um, you can see we like to dress alike a lot in the elementary school. That really does unify us and it is a lot of fun. Um the first picture there, you can see Scott in the middle. This is a little shift that we've had
082in our faculty meeting practices. And our first time it was really entertaining to see our staff come in because we had everybody set up in circles of six or seven with no table. Um so they were not 100% comfortable with that, but then we got into it and we had a ton of fun. Our next one, we were one huge circle. So, we're keeping them on their toes, mixing it up. But what we are loving about that is sitting together in a circle, face to face, and talking through things, working on things together. And it's really been very unifying. And we do take just about like the first five minutes to model what our kids do in the morning for morning meeting and just connect. So, everybody gets a chance to just what are you
083looking forward to today? What's something you did over spring break? just have that opportunity to connect and we try to mix it up. So, um, our fourth grade team for instance, they see each other every day. They work together very closely. Um, they know a lot of those things already. So, just mixing it up so that our our staff have the opportunity to get to know each other and unite. And this is more dressing like >> and I wish I had >> fun together. >> Jess talks about when we set these morning meetings up at 8 a.m. teachers come in, sometimes they're frazzled, sometimes they're coming in right at 7:58. The look on their faces is so priceless. It's like it's the same look of just I was excited to be at school, but I'm
084just so disappointed that I have to interact in a community building circle or some way that's just dispositive in the morning. But you give them like 3 to 5 minutes and they're in they're all in and they're loving every minute of it. But I wish it's like a running joke and we don't do um ice breakers. We don't do warm welcomes. They're cordial salutations because nobody likes the language of any of those things anymore. Um but they are they are completely bought in. So one of the shifts again when you bring staff together to feel connected um these are high school students that have come over to do crafts. So empowering staff to empower students that goes beyond our four walls of our elementary school. So there's been multiple opportunities for our high school students,
085for our middle school students to come over and be leaders. And our students, they light up when they see I mean sometimes you've got cousins, sometimes you have siblings. Um but sometimes it's just a connection that's built off of I've seen you out walking around or this and that. Um but that is the empowering of all students and then when they come in, this is where you really get our goal and one of our primary goals is building off of our fourth grade. Our first um assembly we had by accident. I was thrown into the mix. Um Scott, you're going to lead this assembly in the bus loop and we announce all teachers, we announce all grade levels. And I forgot to announce fourth grade level. I'm getting these things. Fourth grade, fourth grade. I'm
086like, oh, perfect. Fourth grade. I waited specifically to announce you because you are the most important leaders of our building. And we've kind of just built off of that this year. Um, because this is just the picture of some fourth graders doing skits. Um, we really have empowered them as leaders. They get it. JCraft and K Sensbach is really our student spotlight is built into these next couple slides. There's opportunities for them to do skits. Um, there's an opportunity for Mrs. Craft. You're going to see in here leading a celebration, which I do have her permission, I'm hoping. Oh, I don't >> know where [laughter] you might have to give them. >> Oh, you know what I probably have to do is >> while they do that, I do want to just point out when
087we plan with our fourth graders to do the assemblies, we have been teaching um every letter of the matrix of perseverance, responsibility, integrity, and so going through each one of them. And it is really fun to get the kids together to plan. So we have like 12 kids together and they totally develop the skit. They talk even about the part that they want to play. Like I want to be a teacher. Um we had a student that wanted to be the principal. It's just really fun to get those parts in there. We put we we write the skit and then they get out there and they lead that for their peers which is very scary and they do an amazing job. And then we finish an assembly and I have kids all day. Can I
088do the next one, Miss Carol? Can I do the next one? So, we've actually had to increase our opportunities for fourth grade leaders because we don't have enough spaces to do the skits. So, now we are implementing buddy walkers and office helpers and things like that because we've had so many fourth grade helpers that want to lead and do these things which makes me really proud of them. >> If you could I you may have to click on that. Is I wonder if the sound's going to work. Um, but this is Mrs. [laughter] >> So, she came up with this um cheer. Is it a cheer that you do? They do it. >> So, notorious high school sports hands. >> So, I teachers are asking like, "I would love to do the cheer." So, we're
089continuing to practice it because the letters get really confusing if you're one of [laughter] >> If you want to start that, that'd be fantastic. R [screaming] E R [screaming] A R. [groaning] >> So I do have just a couple more before we go. Is that maybe we could pick two of these whoever have next. Um, I think I shared one of them. We had some students um share I may have to go into my email and share it again. >> No, I shared two of them. So, this should be in there. One of them at least. We had students just share maybe it's not that one. What it means to be able to be up in front of their class, be perceived as leaders. Um, and they shared a little bit. I don't know why
090I'm given access, but maybe I love Google. That was our student spotlight. We're going to just have to go with this happened. I'll send it to you and I apologize. Um >> really? Yeah. I'll keep going to the next one. Oh, wait. Maybe that's think it'll work. >> No. >> Oh, great. >> Okay. >> It's It is cute. [laughter] They really did a great job. They I mean they they beam whenever they have the opportunity to get in front of their peers and come up with the skit themselves. >> Something that's neat too is they're they're coming up with scenarios when they write the skits of things that maybe they've struggled with as elementary students. So it's really real when we are doing these skits and hoping that the kids will apply these values to
091their lives. They're getting the opportunity to listen and see things that they probably have experienced themselves. So that's been really cool. So part of that when you get that that's all tier level one when you get looking at the data of which students are the students that we are seeing the most which students are the ones that are requiring the most amount of supports. You have your tier three students that have those higher level of supports. Some of you have this sometimes you have the students that might be slipping through that they seem like they're okay but we just want to make sure that we're check and connecting with them. So that's some of the data that we looked at and I had mentioned the check and connect that Jess and I had done with
092the team. Um, this is just a picture of what it happens. There's a table set up at the end of the hallway. Specific students that have been brought up by their teachers that aren't necessarily tier three, the highest level of support and aren't tier one, but they may just need the connect in the morning and at the end of the day. Um, this is just that other way of connecting that we do um utilizing teacher support and Mrs. Riley over there, which is great. Jay Crab, I will do this next year. She has taken the lead on this. She always says, "Mr. this is a great thing for you to do to get to know all the students, but we do pride pals so teachers can recognize individual students. Um, and there's not at least
093once or twice a week where I walk out and down the hall and I see kids just looking at students in recognition of each other um on our pride hall pride wall of fame. Um, so really next up is again that continued increase in student ownership and empowerment of their behaviors. um improving our consistency and supporting teachers and improving teachers consistency and supporting students. Um doing that through all of the relationship building and again that tier one not only academically but we focused entirely on tier one, tier two and tier three on social emotionally on everything that we've done for our our spotlight. Any questions? >> Great work, right? >> Impressive. Thank you for all that you guys are doing. >> Thank you for the opportunity to do it. Want to express appreciation for the
094alignment alignment with the essential objectives. And so just thinking about all your work at the beginning around student management recognizing that that had been an identified area need. And so all of your work around classroom management versus office office managed behaviors and I was talking offline. You're like the PBI, you're like a commercial for PBIS, like best practice researchbased approach to student management tier one uh universal interventions. >> It really will support it from an I do. You're going from an I do we do to a you do model in terms of integrating with students. And so it's it's wonderful. You set this your teachers are setting the standard. >> They literally could do a commercial common expectations, common language, and then the common celebrations. And now having the fourth graders be at the forefront
095of the development of the SP like this is a four. Like if I think about the execution like this is highly effective PBIS implementation. Great work. >> And it worked for the tech mishaps. Thank you for that because I knew I was going to play yours. [laughter] >> I love her video that did not stand the students. They just stay. They actually had, to be honest, they had me in the shot as well. I looked so awkward where I just cropped it. So, [laughter] >> you know, you have a really supportive partner. >> Thank you. >> All right. Budget presentation. >> I tell you, that's a tough gonna say maybe you should have done the budget first, but it wasn't coming up quite yet. I was going to say a budget presentation. [laughter] >> So
096it is exciting this evening just thinking about this is the final draft of the 2627 budget and so again not going to read the agenda to you but we're going to take you through the development of the budget and tonight we're very proud to bring the balance budget to the board of education for approval and adoption this evening. Just setting the stage for the community making sure folks anchor into the whole notion of really the budget is the mathematical expression of our vision our mission and really more importantly our essential objectives. where are you trying to take us as a district? Thinking about the board's role, setting direction and guiding us around what are the priorities moving forward and the budget is how we actually engage in that work and here are our essential objectives.
097I think you heard our in each of the different reports. It's just frankly I'm so proud of all of the administrative team. You can hear the essential objectives reflected in each and every one of their reports as they're presenting at board meetings. And so that I'm going to pass off to Penny Johnson who's done an outstanding job throughout this budget development season. Please keep in mind last year she on boarded and she inherited what she inherited. She's been responsible from start to finish this year and I couldn't be more proud or pleased to partner with you in this work. >> Great. So have any of you memorized this formula yet? [laughter] Um this formula will put to use on the next slide. Um in which it calculates the tax levy limit. Uh we start out
098with the last year's limit. We take into account the tax base growth factor both the current year and the upcoming year pilots and then the inflation factor which is capped at 2%. The levy for the upcoming school year is being proposed at 12,869,261 for the budget to pass if we are going out at or below the tax cap. The budget would need a approval rating of 50% plus one vote. If we were to go out to exceed the tax cap, it would need a 60% super majority in which it's important to note the district is not trying to exceed the tax cap. So, we would fall under the 50% plus one vote. The tax levby increase for this year or for the upcoming school year would be $320,616 which is a 2.55% increase over the
0992526 school year. Um I haven't talked about that this yet this uh this year but um I want to talk a little bit about the school tax rates and how they are calculated. Um we take into consideration the town assessments um of the property values and then um the real office of real property tax also issues equalization rates and the equalization rates and the property assessments are all put into a calculation um and we are appropriate it out across the various towns. Um this will be done in late July and then in August it will go for board approval. Now it's important to note that this is just an estimate here but um the true tax rate is estimated in for 2627 to be $17.25 and in 2526 it was $16.77. Now what is the
100true tax rate? The true tax rate assumes that every property value is assessed at its full value. Um which would be a 1.0 or 100% equalization rate. Um in to calculate the true tax rate for this estimate, we use the 2025 um assessment values because we do not have the 2026 values yet. And we also use the 2025 equalization rates because we do not have the equalization rates yet. So again, this is just an estimate. Looking at a $100,000 home, the increase in the the t the annual tax bill would be about $48. If you have a $300,000 home, it's estimated to be about $144 for the year. Again, these are just estimates because we don't have the actual equalization rates or the actual assessed values yet. Um, so if you look at the tax
101rates mathematically, um, as your assessed value gets more towards its true value or it increases, you are going to have a lower tax rate. Um, equalization rates play a big factor in that. So when you're not at 100% assessed value, you that equalization rate actually increases the the value that you're being taxed on. So towns with an equalization rate of a of 100% or 1.0 um they will have um so if you are below that you will have a higher rate. If you are at 100% you will your rate would be lower. looking at the state aid. Um the on this slide we're comparing uh the the governor's executive budget to um our what the district is projecting and you can notice that there is a variance. Most of that variance is due to the
102aids being expense based, which means um for example with um the transportation aid, it's taking into account that you're going to spend everything that you have budgeted and we are not through the end of the year and the chance of everything being expensed that was budgeted is very slim. So there is an adjustment for that. And as far as the building aid, we have worked with our municipal advisors and um came up with a calculation that more accurately reflects what we're expecting to receive. Foundation aid represents the largest part of our state aid and this year we are expecting a 1% increase which is about $94,866. uh foundation the amount of foundation aid that we're going to receive uh can change. Um the the near state budget has not been finalized yet. We are hopeful
103that we will get 2% but we don't know that yet for sure. The increase in state aid from 202526 to 2627 we're expecting an increase of $394,033 which is a 2.61% increase. And again, that represents all of the state aid categories. There are other types of revenue that we do receive. Uh the biggest change in this one is in the pilot payments, which are payments in the taxes. They're going to go up about $40,000, which is in accordance with the already established pilot agreement. This slide summarizes a lot of what we just talked about, but it also talks about the um appropriated fund balance usage and the amount of appropriated reserves that we're going to be using to balance the budget. We are proposing to use $220,966 in appropriated fund balance and then proposing to
104use $590,000 in appropriated reserves. making an overall increase [clears throat] of 1,37,979, which equates to 3.56%. [cough] This slide gives you a good idea of what our two biggest [clears throat] uh revenue sources are, and that is property taxes and state aid combined. They make up about 94% of our revenue budget. When looking at the expenditure side of the budget, some considerations that um we have to keep in mind is the increase in healthcare expenses. We are expecting an 18.5% overall increase. uh some contractual obligations and then contract negotiations as well as the inflation. And then this is not a new slide. I think there's just one uh item I'd like to bring to the board's attention. So Karen is working been working diligently in her uh role and responsibility specific to ENL. So English
105as a new language. And so what we've determined for next year is we are going to have to add an increase of a 1.0 know FTE that we will have to hire to ensure that we're meeting uh compliance regulation around number of minutes that uh all students who qualify are eligible for ENL services that they get what get what they need and deserve to be successful at Williamson Central School District. And so that is uh an ad uh compared to previous slides that you've seen. However, it does end up being costneutral and we'll share a little bit more about that in just a moment. That's the only new ad to the slide uh when we think about reduction. So those are the ads new money that might be included in the 2627 budget. Uh what
106you're going to see is in the instructional anticipated reductions via attrition. We do anticipate a potential resignation coming. We [clears throat] were unable to bring it to the board of education this evening, but it is anticipated and we're not going to backfill that teacher. So we uh we we at this point that's why I can say to you it's actually budget neutral. The ad of the 1.0 I know ENL teacher is actually washed by the anticipated resignation that we know is coming uh from an instructional staff member. Uh certainly going to make sure we're watching. So if there's additional need, we'll bring it forward to you. But at this juncture, it would be no uh no impact on the expenditure side of the budget. And then these are just the operational. Again, nothing new here.
107We've been fully transparent all the way along. Uh we are very proud and celebratory about the fact that really we were able to do much of our reductions all through attrition and through breakage about backfill. So we didn't have to say to someone uh this spring, hey, unfortunately we don't have a job for you next year. So that's great news for Williamson. And then passing that penny from the three-part budget. Looking at the expenditure side of the budget, uh the greatest amount of our expenses come from instruction and staffing. Uh instruction makes up about 48.1% of our expenses along with um the benefits to help support the um staff who do the instruction. Um which is about 26.06% of the budget. The administrative component of the budget uh is increasing by $338,763. Um which is
108mainly a good majority of that is because of benefits increasing. And then um we are also increasing uh 97,000 in curriculum development and supervision. So overall, the $338,000 equates to about 1.16 percentage increase of the total budget. The instructional component of the budget is increasing about 2.38%. Again, a large portion of that is due to the increased cost of the health insurance and benefits. Um, and then there is also an increase in the programs for students with disabilities. the capital component uh of the budget is increasing minimally by 0.02%. Um and any increase in that is being offset by a slight decrease in our debt service payments. Um so again the overall increase is 0.02% of the total budget. The budget is going to increase by $1,37,979 which is a 3.56% increase and that does
109align with the revenue side of the budget as well. How did we close the gap? It was through attrition breakage efficiencies and right sizing of budget lines. We will be using 590,000 in appropriated reserves and 220,966 in appropriated fund balance to help close the gap. This slide just shows that we are in balance with the revenues and the expenditures using the appropriated fund balance and reserves. We are proposing a another capital outlay project this year. Uh we would are going to be replacing doors up in the high school due to deterioration and security concerns. Um the it's important to do these capital outlay projects because we do have a bit um ability to earn building aid on that. Um, so a $100,000 project that we do this year will earn us about $84,900 in a
110future year. In the future year, these are just pictures of some of the doors that we are looking to replace. We are um proposing to buy two 28 passenger gas uh fueled buses and then 364 passenger diesel fuel buses in accordance with our vehicle replacement plan. This slide gives you a good idea of how much a bus will cost us overall um through its lifespan. Uh after the five-year um aid that we will receive, a large bus is expected to cost approximately $33,757. We do keep the bus around six years um due to by the time that we um get the replacement vehicle in. So, taking that into account, we we build in some maintenance costs and then subtract out the tradein. That bus actually ends up costing approximately $22,000. Um, that is really the
111sweet spot to trade in a bus because after [cough and clears throat] that, the bus maintenance repairs start to increase and the trade-in values start to decrease, making the bus the bus actually cost more in the long run. Any questions for Penny? That brings us to the vote. May 19th, uh 1 to 9:00 p.m. right here at the middle school. Uh we will have uh voters uh hopefully authorizing four different propositions. Uh one being the budget, two being bus purchases, three being the creation of a 2026 capital reserve. And fourth, the public library has requested an increase. And so that requires voter authorization. And so that will be proposition four for our voters. Uh we currently have two seat vacancies. Uh the expiring term of Angela De Fischer and Jeff Governor. I'm going to back
112up for just a moment. And our president, board president will be speaking a little bit more about that. Uh we did not actually have any petitions turned in for those seats. So she'll speak a little bit more about that later on in the agenda. And for more information, uh all of our presentations and budget accompanying budget documentation is posted currently on the website. It's current. In fact, even tonight's presentation is already there. We've released videos number one and two specific to the budget development process. Video one being about the three-part budget. What does that mean? But uh video number two being about the revenues and video three about expenditures and a balanced budget uh set to release I hope uh either tomorrow or Friday at the very latest. Uh we have a budget hearing schedule.
113So the community has yet one more opportunity to hear this similar presentation and that will be on May 6th. Please note that I did withdraw the meet the candidate uh segment of that meeting just because we didn't have any petitions turned in. So I did withdraw that as a facet of that that evening's uh presentation. And then at this time we'd like to thank you for uh your support and consideration of the budget that we're going to ask that the board take action on this evening. >> Um can we make sure Proposition 4 seems like it's a new it's new for our community. Can we make sure that it really is highlighted? This is about the Williamson Public Library >> so that it's separate from this the school. >> We could even ask here to
114talk about it at that here if someone's available. Is that something interest? >> Thank you for suggestion. >> Thank you. [clears throat] >> Okay, moving on to the consent agenda. I need a motion to approve consent agenda items 5B through 5F as recommended by the superintendent. >> So move. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> Opposed? Passes 40. Um I need a motion to approve the retirement resignation as presented. >> So second. Any discussion? >> Congratulations. >> Yeah, congratulations. >> And thank you for 30 years of service. >> I can't I can't remember. Is he a Is he a Yankees fan or a Red Sox? >> It was one of the two. >> I let them know every day that they're in last place. [laughter] I was I'm not going to lie, I was a
115little disappointed Jeff's not here. >> Yeah, I was thinking that Jeff would be really sad about [laughter] >> I think you'd be happy. >> I'm just happy. [laughter] >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I >> oppose. Passes full business. So, we had discussion last time about the first half of this sheet with the annual report feedback. Um, and I put the I asked to put it on the agenda because we had said we were going to talk about the second half of the survey, but when we were doing agenda planning, um, Bridget asked if we could maybe table that part about the academic achievement reports till the summer when we do our summer work and hone in on it then. So, I didn't want to not mention it, which is why it's still on
116the agenda. But really, as long as everyone's okay, instead of discussing that, we'll just table that for the summer. >> Okay. >> Um, next up, that's a short discussion. Um, athletic programming shared team. >> Yes. So, I am super proud um of this agreement with Bishop Carney. Um I went through the timeline last month or not last month, a couple weeks ago. Um by having student voice of, hey, we want football in our community and then going out and searching for different um lobbying for different districts. So, they they would take us on and eventually we landed with Bishop Carney. Um, but taking that student voice and then turning it into this, it's a problem for myself and I think one for the for the district as well. Um, not only it makes me happy
117as I'm a football guy, but now I have the student voice. Oh, and now I can go search for it. But, uh, like football what it's done for me in my life. Uh, at at a young age, it brings community um, friendships. My four best friends and I we text every single day. Um, so knowing what it can do for development of of youth all the way up through through high school is is pretty impactful. Um, so last piece that they're proud of is that it's going to basically cost a district nothing. and going in and having that conversation with Bishop Carney saying like we are in a tough spot right now financially and we're in uh that that gap and having them hear us on uh okay well we can work with you on
118transportation we can work with you on equipment um so it's been really impactful in in that way as well uh timeline of what's next for Bishop Car so tomorrow as Dr. Snider alluded to uh Coach Ramsey is going to be there is coming over and uh speaking in forum and that's going to be with like I said coach Ramsey he he's a very uh electric individual. He does things the right way. Um he he'll meet with all foreman and discuss those things that you talked about. Is there triyouts? Um are they going to welcome freshman all the way up through seniors? uh what's the workout plan going to look like? What's all those minor details that everybody's um looking for? The athletic director and high school principal will also be um in attendance. They'll talk
119in form and then if if students would like to hang back and ask questions or get more information, then they'll address it during that time. Moving forward on 4:28, it's going to be a parent player meeting um here in Williamson. So that could be if students are on the fence or I'm really into this, they can go to this meeting and get again more information, questions. Parents obviously can attend during that time. It is also linked up with PPSA and the events on the same same night. So, um to register and come to ours, >> we can do that as well. [laughter] >> Um another cool feature with Bishop Carney is if a student ath if they are on the football team, then they would have a like a free pass to the YMCA. Um
120and also their fieldhouse, which is going to be brand new that they are building at Bishop Carney. So, I know Coach Ramsey and Dr. Dr. Martin, they'll be talking about that tomorrow as well. And lastly about the team name, um they were very open to uh having a sit down with both administration, having some student voice on both sides, uh community members, and say what what does that look like for Bishop Carney and Williamson? What's something we can kind of find a connection for and kind of go with a logo or branding in that direction? Um, I don't know if you had a chance to look through the agreement. >> I did. I noticed that it said team name >> XXX. We are not [laughter] >> But even before this, Rob and I were just
121like talking about colors, like what does that look like? Is it red and baby blue? Like that probably doesn't mesh well. So having those conversations and um it's exciting exciting for both uh communities. Uh I think everything's spelled out in this agreement. We were very we went back and forth quite a bit. Um but the big thing for me is that financially it's we are not it's going to cost the district pretty much nothing. And we will have a coach they confirmed we will have a Williamson coach that will be paid for through Bishop Carney. Number seven, cancellations are really neat. They sometimes have very different weather just down the road. And the fact that everyone's willing to cancel if one area has bad weather, it kind of creates a nice everyone's important culture. >>
122What I appreciate about them is um they want to make it like a joint community, which is exactly what you see. >> Super proud of the work you've done, Mr. Roco. Thank you on behalf of the district uh for creating this opportunity, building the opportunity to Williamson again and Ronan for bringing it forward for consideration and now execution. I don't know how comfortable you are, Miss Dixon as our board clerk, but uh this uh agreement is listed as an action item for the board. It's new business P. I'm sorry. Yeah, new business P. Wondering if you're willing because it would be the superintendent's recommendation at this time that the board uh make motion to approve the shared agreement with Bishop Carney so we can have football in 2627. We move that. >> Okay. I need
123a motion to approve the shared athletic team agreement with Bishop Carney. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Thank you for all lot of happy kids right now both districts. [cough] All in favor? >> I oppose. >> Passes 4 zero. >> I kind of want to hear for him tomorrow. I want a little roar or something. I just kind of want to know what that sounds. >> He is energetic. [clears throat] >> Thank you. >> All right. New business. There's a lot of them. Um, I need a motion to approve the resolution for the destruction of paper ballots from the May 2020 May 20th, 2025 annual meeting and board of election board of education election. >> So move second. Any discussion? All in favor? I >> opposed. Passes 4. I need a motion to
124approve the resolution for the destruction of paper ballots from the December 10th, 2025 special vote. So move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> All in favor? >> I passes 40. I just skipped like three steps, but opposed. [laughter] There's a lot. [laughter] >> C. Uh, I need a motion to adopt the 2026 2027 Williamson Central School District budget in the amount of 30,164,644. >> So move second. >> Any discussion? Requirement after this evening becomes the board's budget. All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes 4. Work on that. >> Thank you. I need a motion to adopt the 2026 2027 Williamson Central School District property tax report card. >> So move. >> Any discussion? >> This is just a regulatory um requirement and after it's approved it would be submitted. >> Okay. All in favor? >>
125I opposed. Passes 40. I need a motion to cast one vote for I guess I'll say the name this is word. Um I need a motion to cast one vote for Philip Rose to a seat on the Wayne Fingerlakes Bosey's board effective July 1st 2026 for a three-year term. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Okay. I don't know when he spoke he focused on outcomes and shared services which I think is going to be important for both to have. Um all in favor I opposed passes 4. I need a motion to cast one vote for Deborah Corsner to a seat on the Wayne Fingerlakes posties board effective July 1st, 2026 for a three-year term. >> So move second. >> Any discussion? >> She had a focus on collaboration, shared understanding um and wanted
126to see change in the policies as well. volunteer. [snorts] >> I oppose passes 40. I need a motion to cast one vote for a one vote for Ann Morgan to a seat on the Wayne Fingerlakes board effective July 1st, 2026 for a three-year term. >> So move second. Any discussion? >> Okay. I was inspired by her speech, I think, because she was she said, um, they're asking for more. They're asking for more. We want to give more. >> I identified with her speech. [laughter] >> Yeah. >> Um, all in favor? >> I opposed passes for you. I need a motion to approve the 2026 2027 tenative administrative administrative budget part one of the Wayne Fingerlakes Board of Cooperative Education Services in the amount of 4,285,323. >> So, any discussion? All in favor? I >> opposed.
127Passes 40. I need a motion to approve the resolution to abolish a 1.0 clerk typist position. >> So move. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Does not reflect reduction of an individual. Reflects a shift in position civil service position between the J. >> Thank you. All in favor? I opposed. Passes 4 Z. I need a motion to approve the resolution to create a 1.0 FTE school bus dispatcher position. >> Second. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes 40. I need a motion to approve the memorandum of agreement with CSEA regarding the school bus dispatcher position. >> So moved. Second. >> Any discussion? >> Acknowledges the new position in the CSCA contract and the civil service approved. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? >> Passes for [snorts] I need a motion to approve
128the resolution to create a 1.0 FTL teacher position. >> So move. >> Second. Any discussion? >> All in favor? I >> I opposed passes zero. I need a motion to approve the removal of the policies as listed. >> So move. Any discussion? All in favor? I opposed. Passes 4. I need a motion to wave the first and second readings and adopt the policies listed. So move. >> Any discussion? >> Requirement by regulation. >> All in favor? >> I oppose passes or zero. I need a motion. Oh, nope. I'm not going to I'm just going to read it. resolved that the board of education [laughter] hereby approves the agreement between the Williamson Central School District and employee effective April 22nd, 2026. >> So moved. >> Is that a second? Okay. >> I know it's a weird
129weird wording, but that's how we have to do it. Um, any discussion? >> Personal. >> All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes four zero. Um, we already did that one. Uh, I need a motion to approve the establishment of the Morgan Lawrence Award. >> So, any discussion? >> Thank you. >> All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes 40. Okay, I got to read something. So, board of education election update. I'm going to read this because I want to make sure that I state it correctly and cover everything. Um, as Bridget mentioned, the deadline to submit petitions for the two open seats on the board was this past Monday at 5:00. No petitions were filed and therefore we have no petitioned candidates on the ballot for the May 19th vote. This is very unusual. So, I
130want to explain what that means going forward and what the process will look like because in the time I've been here, we don't have this. So per New York state education law and NICE guidance, if no candidates file nominating petitions, the election is still held. Voters can cast writein votes and the two individuals receiving the highest number of write-in votes for the two vacancies are declared elected assuming that they are otherwise eligible to serve. The district does not offer the seat to the right candidate, but the writin candidates with the most votes are legally elected to the positions. As a reminder, to be eligible to serve as a board of education member, candidates must meet the following qualifications. You have to be a citizen of the United States. You have to be 18 years of
131age. You have to be able to read and write. You have to be a resident in the Williamson School Central School District for at least one year prior to the election. and [clears throat] you cannot be an employee of the Williamson School District. If one or both writing candidates is ineligible to serve, declines, or refuses to serve, then the seat or seats will be treated as a vacancy. At that point, the district does not automatically move to [clears throat] the next highest rated vote getter. Instead, the board of education has three options legally to fill the vacant seat or seats. Option one would be to hold a special election. Option two would be to leave the seat or seats vacant. And option three would be to fill the vacant seat or seats by appointment under
132the relevant education law vacancy provisions. Because an election is technically already being held in May, it doesn't really make sense to hold a special election. So option one's kind of off the table. Similarly, it does not make sense to leave one or both seats open because Williamson's Board of Education is a five member board and that means it requires a quorum of at least three members to conduct all of our business and having only three active board members or even four would require at least three to be present for the board and the district to conduct any business. Um therefore, should we find ourselves in a situation where we have the election and one or both ste one or both seats still remain vacant after the election, which would mean that either someone was written
133in and didn't qualify or refused. Um then the board would have to fill the vacant seat or seats by appointment and the board appointed member would then serve until the next election in May of 2027. At that time the remaining term which in this case would be two years would be placed before the voters. So, in practice, what that means is that if you got to that point, instead of having one three-year term on the ballot next year, you could have one three-year term and one or two two-year terms for a total of three positions, but with differing terms. Um, if anyone has any questions about that or the process, the situation we're in, because it is very unusual, um, you can either reach out to the district clerk, Kelly, or myself, um, and we
134can answer questions about what that looks like, but the ballot will look a little different this year because there won't be any names there. Um, the next piece of information I am sharing with the board for information only. Um, and I'm not asking for any discussion, but I feel like I need to share the information. Um, my seat is one of the seats up for election this year, and I did not submit a petition because I don't think it is ethical to run for a three-year term when I do not intend to serve the entirety of that term. I have served on the board for 15 years and have enjoyed serving my community in this capacity. Personally, my family and I are in a different phase of life now than when I first started on
135the board. Um, my youngest child was literally an infant and he is preparing to start his senior year of high school. Um, during the time on the board, I've missed a lot of my own children's events to attend board meetings and board events, and I've literally missed one tonight. Was trying to watch. Um, my older two children are both planning to return to the area next year and I would like to be able to see them at all of their things. Whether it's my youngest child who will be doing all of his less at Williamson or my older two who will be doing the next part of their education and will I'll have the opportunity to actually attend some of their things close to home instead of having to travel out of state. Um, having
136said that, um, given the situation that we're in with no one nominated and two open seats, I just want to publicly state that I am willing to serve an additional year if I am elected as a writing candidate or appointed with by the rest of the board in the absence of dyed writing candidates. I can't commit to serve an additional three years and I will likely prioritize my family events over board commitments when possible because there's only so many of them left after this. Um similarly, Jeff, as we mentioned, was not able to be here tonight because he's attending an event for one of his children. Um, I did speak to him today about the situation that the board is in and he expressed similar reasons for not seeking reelection. Um, he has served on
137the board for six years. Is also not able to commit to another three-year term due to his desire to attend events for his daughters, both of whom will be attending college out of state and competing in athletics out of state next year. He indicated that he is also willing to serve another year should he be elected as a writing candidate or appointed by the rest of the board in the absence of dually elected writing candidates and gave me permission to share that information on his behalf since he's not here tonight to say it himself. He can't commit to serve another three years and express that he may likely miss some meetings if he is appointed or elected for next year um for family commitments as well. Thank you. That's that. Okay. Next up is Bosey's
138district superintendent search survey. So, I believe everyone got an email yesterday or Monday. Um, so I fill this out. >> I I just I just filled it out. I wasn't sure if we wanted to respond individually or as a board. And in talking to Bridget, it sounds like it's more of a thought exchange process. So, it might behoove us to each fill it out. Um, but we might want to talk about what we want to put in there or how we want to answer some of the questions. But I also don't know that we might want to do that privately so that we don't say anything about individuals or but I think it's important that we all fill it out and I I assume it goes to it went to you two also or >>
139yes it's received. Did it go to anyone else in the district or just >> I I'm not aware that anyone else did it. I think it was juncture just board and superintendent. Okay. >> I just noticed when I started to fill it out it does ask like what your role is or and there was a lengthy list. So I assume at some point it went to other stakeholders. But so we should all >> it called board members something different though like >> Well, I didn't even see board member in the list. Yeah, but I I thought it was something I thought it was just a different name for it, but I I put other. I put board member because I didn't know. But I can't >> Well, that's even that I was like I could
140say I'm a component district. >> That's that's what >> or I could say other, >> right? >> I didn't realize board member, >> but because I guess technically if I'm filling it out as a board member, >> I'm doing it from the lens of a being a component district was how I looked at You you could click on several. >> Oh, I thought it could only choose one. >> It only asked for one, but you could click on Yeah, I did. >> Okay. [laughter] So, pretty standard strength needs assessment really. They're looking for you to identify what have been points of pride for the Wayne Fingerlakes postseason. And then contrarily, what do you identify as potential areas of potential growth or opportunity for the Wayne Fingerlakes post? And then I think the last question is,
141is there any other feedback you'd like to provide at this time >> and what you would like to see in the new superintendent? >> That's right. >> So you already filled it out, but we might want to and Jeff's not here, but we might want to reflect on our experience with those and use that to complete the survey. if that makes sense. >> And I probably should remind Jeff to fill his out too because I did not mention that when I talked to him this morning. >> Are we are we sharing that in open session or just do it on our own? Um, I am concerned that if we try to do it in open session, something might come up that shouldn't be in open session, if that makes sense. >> So, if you're going
142to talk about individuals, it would have to be executive, but if it's about strengths programming um strength, >> I guess it depends what you want to talk about, right? I guess I was just thinking I don't know if we if we focus on um what we want in the new superintendent >> without talking about what >> wasn't in the last superintendent I think we can I guess the president >> I I wrote down a focus on shared service and regional collaboration fiscal responsibility cost efficiency strategic vision long-term planning um responsiveness to district needs, um partnership development, teacher recruitment and retention, talent development and support. Those were the main ones I pushed for services and teachers. >> I don't remember and I didn't note if there's a deadline for filling that out. >> I believe it
143was May. May we're gonna meet again so we can >> so we can remind to do it then too so we can think a little bit about what we want to say >> and then we can make sure that Jeff has an opportunity to do it. >> I appreciate Francis your contribution just thinking about the alignment with the regional priorities that have been identified by the superintendents across the region and they are exactly what you just described. So it's programming, it's staffing shortages and it's it's funding right so like advocacy for funding with the state. So those are the three priorities that I that have been identified by superintendents. >> Um so we should probably put that on our next agenda just as a reminder to make sure that everyone has submitted it. So you
144want to just spoke about or come ready to >> do you think we need to put it on the on the thing or just email reminders >> whatever I just want to make sure that everybody doesn't I don't know Jeff will know what it is your district cler could provide you the reminders we just >> because it's the format is a thought exchange the >> [clears throat] >> The weight of our responses I think will carry more if we each fill it out as opposed to one Yeah. response from the district. >> I'm sure Cindy will be sending out a reminder there too. >> Probably. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Uh next is budget transfers. Penny, anything we need to note there? >> No. >> Um upcoming district committee meetings. There is a curriculum council
145meeting tomorrow. >> [cough] >> in the [clears throat] elementary school library. Uh upcoming district events, we have middle school and high school report cards available Friday. Um grade three and four New York State math testing is April 30th and May 1st at the elementary school. Solo Fest is May 2nd at Wayne High School. And then grades five through eight math testing is May 5th and 6th at the middle school. Board of Ed highlights. >> Um, I got interviewed by a number of public policy students this week >> and they all decided to interview me at the same time, which is really nice. So, [laughter] >> it's called the fish. >> Um, but it was good. Uh, it was it was good to talk about um all the questions they had and then Ronin was one
146of them. So, um, but then Ronin and and, um, another student stayed after and we talked we talked some about AI and and other things, but, um, it was it was neat to see the kids involved and and offering suggestions and things like that, too. So, we've got some great students and >> fun. >> Yeah, it was fun. It was at the same time and they came over. It was a good talk. I think it's eye opening for some of them >> when they start asking questions and I know it's an assignment for for client but >> I've done it a couple times over the years and some of them I think are like oh really >> any other highlights Veronica you're the only public >> I got nothing for you >> but I don't
147have to read it um I need a motion to adjourn to executive session I move we go to executive session for for the employment history of particular person.
