001Everyone, I'd like to call the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance and a moment of silence. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Thank you everyone. Sorry we're a few minutes behind. We had a policy meeting that went right up until >> Okay, I need um and now I have to apologize again. We have to go to into a brief executive session because we have an attorney here and we have something we need to do with her. So I need a motion to enter exe or to adjurnn to executive session. >> Make a motion that we adjourn to executive session for matters of student discipline uh or specific student
002placement in a program or that would otherwise disclose confidential personally identifiable student information. All >> in favor I opposed passes by zero. on something as a result of that. So, can I have the following motion? Resolve that the board of education having heard an appeal from student discipline determination made by the superintendent of schools designated as appeal number one and following the due deliberation hereby affirms the determination of the superintendent of schools. So, moved. Second. >> All in favor? >> I >> oppose. Passes by. >> Thank you. Uh, announcements. >> I have no announcements. >> Student highlights. >> Oh my goodness. I hope we have some special guests. They're all three here tonight. Dixon. >> No, just one. Just our elementary student. >> Did you say? >> All right. So, Hold on, folks. I got
003it. Okay. Uh reports to the board. We have exit. >> Yes. Good evening. Um this one is just a quick vocal report. uh very brief. Uh we've gotten back into the swing of things after two week break from school and there are some obvious nerves about the upcoming midterms, but that's that's normal. And um I just wanted to highlight that students are really glad to see that the capital improvement project was passed within the community and what that means for the high school in the future. And uh yeah, I just really wanted to highlight that. Um been like a big thing. And uh finally uh following the past few days of school uh Dr. Snder, Mr. Roco, and Mrs. Taylor and I uh have been discussing possible future opportunities for me to be able to
004reach out to the middle school uh students and gather their perspectives and whoever and like this will continue on for years. Uh the next board uh and student representative so I can get perspectives to better represent them as well as because my role to better suit this role. Um yeah, that's what I had for the board today. It's very brief. >> Great. Appreciate your effort to get the voice of students. >> Great initiative. Thank you. >> Um now we are going to stray from our agenda and move the SRO report which is under fours of a deputy Wilson committee for another committee. >> Yeah, literally. All right. So, for those of you that don't know me, I am Deputy Wilson County Sheriff's Office. I did a visual presentation tonight. I kind of go through that
005briefly. Um, I don't know who's controlling that. You got it. All right. So, we'll run through that. Um, real brief on me. I've been a police officer for 10 years. I live within the town. I have two children within the district. Um, I currently am a volunteer fireman with the Peace Williamson Fire Department and I hold a leadership position there. I'm the first assistant fire chief. Uh I took this position on my own free will. It wasn't a forced position as some you know SRO's may be forced or spot. This is this was on my own free will. I felt that um my role on the road was getting to a point where I wasn't making a difference and that coming here I could make the difference. Uh so that is why I took this
006position. Um, along with that, I'm driven to provide uh, safety and security to staff and students of Len Central School District, as well as build medium and men relationships to the stigmatism of law enforcement communities. Uh, so what have I been doing in the district? Um, with the work of building leaders as well as our fabulous superintendent, um, we've been working on wayf finding maps, safety, obviously going around checking all the doors, making sure that they're continuously locked, so on and so forth. Um, having high visibility within all three buildings and extracurricular activities, uh, which for that a visual for that is I'm visual in all buildings. I'm seen in all buildings. I make a point throughout every day to hit all three. um say hi to the kids and be there during classroom changes.
007Um I have been presenting to staff and students on different topics. I've contributed to the newsletter. Uh continue engagement with staff, students and an open door policy. Um my office is primarily held at the high school and that door is always open and the students up there know that they usually come in and say hi, which is great, especially as the year has gone on. It's become more frequent, which tells me what I'm doing is working. Um we have continued engagement with um staff and students and partnering now with the FBI Buffalo uh for multiple different things. Most recently was the digital digital dangers webinar that we held at the high school. Uh the way it's a process in which navigating orienting oneself in physical space utilizing various cues and systems to reach destination. So,
008I don't know if anybody noticed it when you came in, but above the doors there is numbers that are visual like visible to the naked eye. You're not looking at the door trying to figure out where you're going. Um, that not only helps the students and staff, especially substitute teachers, but it also helps all first responders that may have to respond to the school in any event emergency, whether it's fire, EMS, or police. Um the amen was the first completion of the new temporary way finding signage just but uh above they're they're all color coded so they actually match the maps that we have and they're in the process of being redone all color coded so that way they all match and everybody knows like if you're going to you know the pink section of
009the map you're looking for the pink signs above the door. Um, we've also done naming of the hallways. Um, with that, what we did was we took the highest grade level in each building and gave them an opportunity to leave a legacy, if you will, and help with naming the hallways. Um, the process went a little differently between all three buildings, but ultimately we came up with some pretty good ones. A lot of them are Williamson oriented whether it be around the farming community, you know, the apple community or it be around the pride way of Williamson. It's when they all come out, it'll be very nice to explain what they are, how they came up with them. Uh, again, new maps with appropriate designation numbers, hallway names, exterior and interior door numbers. Again, making
010it easier for first responders as well as all staff. Um, we can skip ahead on that one. All right. So, part of my daily duties include the safety of our children and staff in all buildings, continuously checking doors to be sure they are locked and working proper fashion. I'm a part of the building safety committees as well as district level safety committees. Uh, window coverings were made for lockdowns that are easy to put up and take down with minimal to no impact of building level budgets. was a lot of manh hours for myself, but they got done. Um, as well as, you know, while we're here, I'll recognize the elementary playground staff has been instrumental in this process as they have done most of my laminating for me. So, I appreciate their efforts. Um, also
011I've been working diligently with maintenance staff, uh, both Patrick when he was here and now Bill. So, it's great to have a working relationship with them and any safety measures that need to be taken. Uh, we fixed the numbers on windows that were not appropriately matched to the actual room number. Uh, we had new windows put in last year and numbers had not been replaced. Those have been put back on. Um, we we reprogrammed all the radios for each building attempting to ensure adequate communication across all buildings. Still work in progress. Uh the day my days are split between all three buildings in no specific order, walkthroughs each day and assisting in arrivals. Um I would say I'm instrumental in in the elementary arrivals. Um again being a part of numerous committees, the Willington um
012to include the new William intervention team as well as the new allergy management prevention team. uh presentations this far. Fire safety for the elementary level, Halloween safety in all three buildings. Um I got to do some presentations for eighth grade health active with the monthly newsletter as often as can be to include safety tips and transparency transparency to the community that the SRO is involved. Um I'm working with the high school level health teacher as well to try to get some stuff going there as well. We went through all this. I think that's the end of it. It is. So ultimately um I'm here I you know behind the scenes have a lot going on and with the help of building level administrators superintendent we are we are making the buildings a lot safer. That's
013all I have. >> I like what you said in the beginning. You want to be here. >> Oh I do. Yes. >> Yeah. >> 100%. >> It makes a huge difference. >> It does make a difference. Uh, as you know, most of you may or may not know, I did serve as an Esther own Lions. Um, and I enjoyed it, but I wasn't at a point in my career where I wanted to be there. >> So, definitely makes a difference. I wanted to be here this time. So, that's is going a lot smoother. So, without any further ado, >> just want to thank uh Deputy Wilson. Uh, I think about things in terms of value added and you are absolutely value added to the district. Thinking about the uh the collaboration, the commitment to district
014safety. I think I shared and joked uh one of my first meetings with him. He brought me a list of things to do which actually I loved and don't think I don't I know exactly where it is. So we're chipping away at that. I also think it's important that you understand the wayfairing um uh execution that he's doing. That is a noted efficiency in our building condition survey. That's something the district should have. So when we think about safety and first responders having to respond. So you're doing in a very cost-effective way. So thank you very much for your commitment commitment to that but certainly value added for the ladies and central school district. Thank you. I'm a huge proponent this quarter. Thank you. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. I am
015going to go take care of some official business for the school district. >> Have a great night. >> Thank you. >> Yep. Thank you. >> Okay. Reports from district administrators. We'll have everybody here this evening. So, we're going to start with Scott from the elementary school. Report from the elementary school. >> All right. I probably and then piggyback off of Deputy Wilson. I cannot give him enough props for it's the first thing that students and staff see sometimes is that patrol car outside in the morning and it's the last thing they see in the afternoon as well. Just his presence that last slide if he didn't read out loud like the high fives and the hugs. He was in a first grade classroom. I find myself visible in the classrooms. He's following me and sometimes
016there before I am saying hello to all the kids and all the teachers in the morning. It's he's absolutely amazing and we are very lucky to have him with that. like we have met in our building the last two weeks before one week before break and this week our safety and emergency response team. So we've been looking at a couple scenarios with our team specifically looking at some of the information that Deputy Wilson and the team gave us based on the last lockdown. So we're looking to tweak some of those practices and reflect but also one of the things within our emergency response reference card is a specifically a hold in place. So, our building is going to look to see when we need to utilize that for a student that may be in crisis
017in the hallway um so that we can practice that as well. It's it's something that we're going to be looking into. Um working with Deputy Wilson again. He was there today. We're going to take a look at all of our fire expectations when they come in and everything that we need to do with with the lockdowns and that sort. We jumped right back in. And I was just sharing before the the two weeks if we can plant a seed our the staff is ready to go. They came back so energized from two weeks and we have jumped right back into everything that's aligned within our action plan as far as our um ELA. They jumped right back into the collaborative classroom and we're excited to really look at a model called what to read. So,
018kindergarten and second grade are starting to implement a a model called W to Read, which really helps students um and teachers target their individual needs in a holistic manner. Um in math, again, getting right back into math expressions. Teachers are getting more comfortable with the curriculum itself. Uh Karen is working to develop more professional development as teachers get more comfortable with the curriculum and they are very excited about that as a primary resource. Um what we did on the way back is positive behavioral intervention stations rotations. So we sent out it was an expectation of our teachers to visit all of the sites around our school and explicitly retach what is what are the expectations in the hallway, what are the expectations in the playground and expectations in the cafeteria. So they do that this
019week. They sign off on a chart and that really helps our monitors that Jesse referenced also is that it it just helps them pick up right where they left off as well. um and students are really buying into it. That will help us jump into our assembly next Friday, which is the second letter of pride responsibility. So, we have a little skit that we have staff do in front of K2 and three four students. Um teachers love to embarrass themselves in front of students, as do I. Um and then students and staff in classrooms will have the opportunity to show responsibility. Once they show it, they'll take a picture of themselves. they'll send them to the main office and we will give them the R. So they've earned the P, they've earned the R. In
020two months, we'll transition to the I as well. Um, quickly, we have worked on a substitute teacher process. So we have a building sub and we have subs that come in and the communication after a substitute comes in in the classroom and the receiving teacher is somewhat can be inconsistent. So we worked through our building planning team and we developed a template that we're going to be finalizing this next week. just gave it to our building sub to take a look at. And it's really just sticking at like five components, but every teacher that has a sub in their classroom will receive the same sheet with the same information like checklist, school, uh classroom is well behaved. Um these students need extra help in this academic area and things of that sort. And then we
021also had a lot of parent teacher conferences which they were very happy to have and parents were very receptive. Prior to that occurring, we handed out like a template or an agenda that the staff helped build on things that we can consistently cover with families so that preK through four there's consistent topics that are discussed and we're sending out a form this Friday on just did the days and times work? Did you get good feedback? Was your did you like the template that we used? and what additional information would you like to provide moving forward so that we can tweak and make sure that everybody's communicated with? And then lastly, if you haven't been to the elementary school before holiday break, oh my goodness, we were singing the 12 days of Christmas schoolwide. We sang
022a little bit of Jingle Bells. I got to call Santa on imaginary phone. It was amazing the last days leading up to break. So we are very much looking forward to after you visit the M middle school coming over to the elementary school. >> Important to note that Mr. Dashley does sing. >> You can sing my >> I don't sing well chair. >> Thank you Mr. Dler from middle school Taylor. >> Good evening everyone. So we will be seeing you tomorrow morning for the visit. Um, we are very excited to welcome you. Our staff's excited. I think you will get a perspective throughout the whole building. Thoughtful about grade levels and and what you want to see and so I think you'll get a really nice uh slice of life at the middle school in
023the morning. So, we are very excited to have you come tomorrow. Um, our students have uh, you know, kind of again, I think they were very happy to come back. They love that routine. they kind of like coming back to, you know, see their friends and also, you know, kind of get back into the routine of learning. So, it it was a good start. Um, I have a couple people I'd like to re Oh, and actually, I'd like to also recognize Deputy Wilson briefly. uh he um is partnering again with um Buffalo FBI and uh we are scheduling some digital safety seminars for our sixth, seventh and eighth graders and and again in onehour sessions about again when you use the computer people out there are not necessarily good people and how can you keep
024yourself safe and again you know from from predators or or again extortion any of those types of things and so that is happening in early February and it sent out the initial email to the staff that those were happening for our sixth, seventh, eighth graders because the presentations are geared towards middle school students. So that's why our fifth graders are not uh going to be part of that this year, but we may move them to next year. Um I would like to recognize uh a couple staff. I'd like to recognize Steve Partial. Um while many of our students have been very excited and ready to come back, we've had one or two who have had a few hiccups. I uh Steve's interaction with these gentlemen are is amazing. He just takes the step by step,
025resets them, gets them back. He is a wonderful human. And so I'd like to recognize him. Um and he's always positive. Even on tough days, Steve is still, you know, happy, positive. Tomorrow's a new day. We're going to go forward. And also, I'd like to recognize uh Julie Deiza Wheeler. Um, as staff as as Nancy is transitioning to her role, she left a large gap in our building and we miss her dearly. I'm very happy for Nancy. But, uh, Julie has stepped up particularly in the math class that Nancy taught, seventh, and eighth grade. She has taken that on and to teach that class. It's extra duty for her, but she's willing to do it because she feels committed and strong that those students need that strong instruction. And so, um, I just like to
026recognize her because we appreciate her extra time and effort to make sure that that runs smoothly in NY's absence for the remainder of the year. From high school, Dr. Snider. >> Hello. So, first I'm excited to share that as part of our culture of care initiative at the high school. Something we're going to be doing for the second half of the year is we're going to launch um community building with the ninth graders. Um targeting kind of like soft openings about their transition to the high school and how it's been and then anchoring around norms and expectations in a positive way. Um we're going to utilize our students from our elevated student voices program to lead those community circles with them. Uh it'll be during lunch periods, so no impact on instruction. grab your lunch,
027come down to the counseling office, and one of your uh students will facilitate a conversation around a couple questions about transitioning to high school. Um, and our hope is just to uh increase that ninth grade readiness as they move on to their upper grades and maybe expand this a little bit um to earlier in the year in the future to help with that transition. Uh we're also excited. We're going to revamp day of play a little bit at the high school this year. So based on feedback from students and staff, we're going to look at having a career day in the morning. So we're going to invite um guests to come in uh the first half of the day and do um like small breakout sessions throughout the school um followed by a career and
028college fair in the gymnasium. And the second half of the day will be more of our traditional day of play and that's going to culminate in a talent show. So any singers who are interested >> Oh my gosh, >> Scott, >> sign us a song. and >> do a duet. >> Just two things coming up is uh in a future board meeting we're hoping to present maybe a new course or two that uh will be at no cost but some rigor and elective options for our students at the high school and we're also exploring a digital pass system to increase accountability at CQ >> I just get excited hearing what's going on at Great job everybody uh next uh Mr. O from >> I think by now you know that I care deeply about providing
029opportunities for uh kids and I'm happy to announce that we are creating a modified flag football team here in Williamson girls flag football team. >> So yeah um about a month ago I held an interest meeting to see if there was interest out there and it was wellreceived by our seventh and eighth grade girls. So, huge shout out to our varsity coach, Matt He uh wrote a grant with myself and it was backed by the Buffalo Bills and they're going to be sending a $3,000 check to pay for the equipment and the uniforms to um for the for the team. This will be a no ad to athletics as it's budgeted for in in my budget. Um, so I'm very excited for this and um there will be a posting hopefully um after hopefully it's
030approved later uh for tomorrow and I'm very confident there's going to be a strong pool of candidates uh for that coaching position. Also wanted to update you on our modified girls basketball team. A lot going on in the modified girls world. Uh we had 19 girls uh register for basketball, which is way more than I anticipated. And ironically, I had a a text the other day from Lori Deizer, the ad at Marion, and she only has four girls uh signed up there. And we already have a pre-existing merger, combined merger with Marion for girls basketball at the varsity and JD level, which then modified fall into that as well. and she said, "Hey, is there any possibility that you could take us on?" I said, "Well, we are actually looking uh potentially for another team."
031And I did not budget for that position. Um and we also do not have the space uh the current gym space for that for that team. So, um I worked things out with her where um they are going to provide a coach um so be no cost to the district. Again, they're going to provide transportation for the girls where we are going to continue this really strong merger with uh and girls basketball with with Marion for the upcoming season. So, we'll have two teams. We are not cutting eight girls uh that are going to be joining playing basketball this season. >> Thank you for your work. There are a couple of us who are Bills fans. Can you see if you can make that happen? I mean, you're making magic happen all over. Could you
032make that happen? >> Thank you. Uh Nancy from the Office of Student Family Support Services. >> All right. Well, I've really settled into my new role uh in this month. Really jumped in to be first. Um, I've been able to meet with a lot of staff, um, many different departments, many different students and families and, um, understanding, um, their needs and their vision for our, um, department and, um, ways to move forward. We have really spent Christmas break, uh, developing our processes and plans for the upcoming annual review season, which is always a very busy time. So, we have scheduled department curriculum writing days with each building scheduled this month. So, I look forward to uh meeting with each department and really getting into the nitty-gritty of how we're going to organize and um follow
033through with our annual reviews. And a huge shout out to my administrative assistant, Annette, who is huge in that role um sending out all the meeting invites, doing all of the organization of that. So, a huge shout out to her. Um also this month, you were able to finalize um and put our finishing touches on our homeschool instruction guide, which will be posted to the website. um which just makes our processes and our procedures clearer for our homeschool students. Um and we've also um put our final finalization our finish finishing touches on our registration packet which is now posted to our website. So a huge shout out to Jen Jubie who has done a lot of work with both of those. Um she was very clear and thorough with those um to provide clarity in
034those areas. >> And the office of instruction innovation and intervention and that rolls off the tongue very nicely. Absolutely. Very nice. here and hoodie. Um, hi everyone. Uh, so I'm going to talk about two different things. The first thing I'm going to talk about is 15week data review. Right before the end of the year, we hit 15week data review for the middle school and the high school specifically. So on the Thursday before break, the high school sat through a riveting session of data review with me, but what it's a great opportunity to sit down with the MTSS staff and look at how the students are performing. We look at them in a variety of categories and we are looking for patterns. So, we're not necessarily highlighting maybe one or two missteps, but what we're looking
035for is patterns on how students are performing in terms of their discipline, their attendance, their academics, their social emotional. And then there's kind of a a catchall kind of bucket, for lack of a better word, um because kids don't always nicely fit into columns that even though we create them. Um so, we sat with the high we did 15 weeks data review with the high school the Thursday before break and today we did the 15week data review with the middle school staff. and next week on trimesters. So, because the elementary school is on trimesters, um Scott and I will be spending some time having conversations around this building because it'll be the u midpoint of his second trimester. Uh and it's just very rich conversation. I'm so grateful for the um just the counselors, the
036administrators attend the u meeting and it's really the problem solving done for students um and really thoughtful in terms of are there things that we want to watch versus are there things that we want to act on in behalf of the students. Um, so that was really exciting. This week I've also jumped right back in and I'm so grateful to both Rob and Kate um because we are beginning the process of looking at what course offerings we can make next year. So even though we're just finishing 15 weeks, we're already starting to think about next year. Um, and so we've had some really great conversations. I've had some great conversations uh with Rob and his team this week and tomorrow we meet with Kate and her team. um just starting to think about what kind
037of opportunities we want to provide for the students and what it's going to look like and also building in that clarity um in understanding what's available for both students, parents and staff. So I it's been an exciting return to school and I'm excited to hear her talk about it. So again, in her new role, we'll assume oversight for course selection and looking at where potentially there's gaps or holes and things we want to fill in. And so she is taking a very active role in working with Rob and Kate to establish what are the needs that we have and then potentially how do we start filling those in to make sure we don't have kids sitting in study halls two or three periods today. >> Way too much information. >> Okay. I can't give away
038too much. Yeah. Very exciting. Uh and last but not least, our business official Penny and this is not the budget presentation. You get to hear her twice tonight. >> Um give a little operational update. Um Vicki and the rest of her department are very excited that they finally received the last of their 24 25 buses that they ordered. They've been on delay for a very very long time. They are expecting their 25 26 buses um to be coming in in the next couple of weeks pending any other delays. Um they should be getting two more large buses and two of the mega buses. Um yeah, right. Um the facilities department is still um trying to fill several open positions. They have a cleaning position, labor position, and a float floater cleaner position. Um they have
039been vacant for a while. So they are really um coming together and we have a lot of substitute cleaners that are coming in to try to help fill the gaps. Um we're doing what we can to try to recruit and fill these positions. Um I'm also working um on getting professional development opportunities set up for the operational departments. Uh I have one scheduled in the next couple of weeks for um the transportation department. Um and I'm going to start um planning for one for the facilities department that I'm hoping to have maybe over February break. Um I it's not definite yet, but that's my plan. And then um you know, after that gets kind of finalized, I'd like to start looking at something for the the cafeteria workers as well. >> Any questions from any
040other administrative team members? Okay, I'll try and be brief. >> You didn't stop. Uh given that Penny just presented, I'm going to actually start with uh fiscal or fiscal stewardship. uh updates and uh just for the board's purposes, I want to first thank Penny. It's her first uh go at budget uh budget development. And so tonight, she's going to present on the first iteration of the 2627 budget. It's important to note that it constitutes a rollover budget, which means taking existing programming and rolling it over into next year and what the potential impacts were based on anticipated revenues and then expenditures if you just rolled everything over as is. And so I want to thank you very much. it first went through. She's done a very thorough, detailed uh comprehensive approach to her work and
041I'm just uh thrilled and couldn't be more proud of the work that you're doing, Penny. Uh important to note when we think about budget development from this point forward, every single board of education meeting will include a budget a budget development update of some sort. Uh we've outlined exactly what we hope to cover in our uh budget development calendar. Of course, it's subject to change based on when we receive the executive and the legislative aid run. So, of course, each footboard meeting from this point forward, we'll be talking budget. Also important for the board to recollect that we are working with our financial adviserss around short and long-term financial planning. That's going to be really critical moving forward for the district when we're thinking about sustaining programming for the community. Uh we have met an
042initial meeting with Sarah Bradshaw from BPD and we have scheduled a meeting with the board. We'll be doing a a financial literacy workshop with you on January 21st. uh Sarah Bradshaw will present to you the short and long-term uh financial pro projection so you have a a better understanding about the long term for us and what uh potential pathways we're needing to explore moving forward. At the December 3rd board of education meeting, I presented that we had an issue with a fire alarm uh up at the high school going off twice uh which uh presented as potentially with some intentionality uh in the uh optics or the scenario the circumstances surrounding that. I do want to let you know I want to first thank uh Brian Roco and Dr. Snyder for their uh relentless efforts
043to try and bring that matter to resolution conducting an internal investigation. We ultimately did end up partnering with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department. I filed a formal complaint and asked that they investigate the matter given that we were unable to bring that matter to resolution. I am happy and proud to report that we did end up having two uh charges uh against two individuals for criminal mischief based on their uh involvement in setting off those alarms. It was a significant disruption to Williamson Central School District. We had to evacuate the buildings on two occasions. And then also when I think about our partnership with the Williamson Fire Department, we had to respond. They had to leave a motor vehicle accident MVA on one of the occasions. And so I wanted to make sure that we
044took that very seriously and I'm grateful for the partnership with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department bringing that to resolution. Uh some of you may have seen in the news and I did share with the board uh just articles specific to community schools funding uh coming to an end. Uh that is real. We've been catching in the news that the potentially the federal government was going to be uh cutting funding in certain areas. That is one of them uh slated to be cut. Uh we want you to know that there will have an impact on Williamson. Uh at this juncture, we anticipate that potentially we would be dropping from we currently or we've most recently had three coordinators, community school coordinators, one in each building. Uh one left to take a different position uh before the
045holiday. So we're down to two. We are hopeful to be able to maintain one in the district moving forward with new grant funding that we're very grateful to Jay Rosa for him helping to secure that funding for us. So, it would be a grant-f funed position still that would allow for us to potentially have one community schools coordinator. This does pose a problem for the entirety of the Wayne County region, uh, Wayne County side of the Wayne Fingerlakes region because there's just numerous supports for families and for our students. So, more to follow on that. Uh, Penny assumes professional responsibility in working with Jay around acceptance of the grant uh, and then reporting. Uh, but again, we are hopeful to at least maintain one coordinator in the district. Uh, thank you, Kate. You already touched
046on the fact that we have our first board of education visit tomorrow at the middle school. Very excited for you to go and be able to celebrate teaching and learning and students and their learning uh in real time and see operationally what's happening operationally and instructionally what's happening. Uh you I I think that the staff will be very grateful that you're hosting the uh coffee from 7:00 to 7:30 and then you'll have the opportunity to engage in how many classroom visits end up being eight nine. So it's three periods each uh is eight I believe eight. >> So all of you will have the opportunity to see eight different classrooms. Uh she does have you split up into two different groups. She'll provide you the itineraries tomorrow morning uh at 7:30 when we engage in
047the debrief after coffee and then we will have a debrief after so that you can talk about what you saw. My hope is that you have a lot to celebrate. Uh, one thing I would ask respectfully is just that maybe you engage very quickly in a conversation about how you'd like to uh create some type of a thank you, a note of gratitude. And I don't know if you have an idea about that or if you just want to wing it tomorrow. I was hoping to actually have you decide if we need to get you materials like do you want poster paper? Do you want letterhead that we type and you're going to send something more formally? Um, >> you can sing. >> Pardon me. You have a plan. >> Great. >> You don't want
048to give it away. Thank you. Okay, great. >> And then of course on deck, February 4th, you'll have the opportunity to visit the elementary school and our transportation department. We're excited for you to get to go over there. They're excited to have you and give you a tour. And then at the high school on March 10th, uh, as you all are aware, I just wanted for the community sake, uh, we had our first policy committee meeting, uh, this evening. We are exploring section 8 8000 which is specific to instruction. Again very grateful for our instructional and district leaders heard for their participation just to make sure they're approaching policy development factoring in practice. This Friday uh is a legislative breakfast. I hope some of you are able to attend with me. We have a number
049of elected officials who will be present. Uh myself and three of the other superintendents from across the region will be presenting on our our priorities uh for this year. So, the priorities we're presenting are EV buses, uh, funding and aid, that's my area, school resource officers, and workforce development. We're going to be presenting just statements and then asking provocative questions of our elected officials to hopefully prompt their thinking around how do they better support um, equity across the region and across the state uh, for basically a basic sound education for all of our students. It shouldn't matter where a child is uh, born to determine what level or quality of education they're getting. So, I hope some of you will be able to be there with me. I want to give a huge shout out
050to Erin Gilfoil. Arena Gilfoil was uh recommended this year to be a participant in the Wayne Fingerlakes Leadership Institute. So, uh that is a program that's been in existence for over two decades. So, for 20 years, uh it's by superintendent recommendation and obviously you factor in feedback from your administrative team. Uh so for 20 years the Wayne Fingerlakes um superintendents have been supporting growing our own leaders in the region uh with great success. And so Erin will actually be going to a celebratory dinner with myself tomorrow night uh to get her induction started and then she'll be starting hopefully a pathway to uh administration similarly to how Miss Nancy Miller ended up at the table with us here tonight. I'm almost there. Uh calendar updates first. Uh I want to thank the board for their
051consideration this evening. And I'll be asking you to consider the addition of a half day on January 30th. And again, I want to anchor into the why. The rationale is uh we recognize instructional time does matter and we have limited instructional time. However, we have found a real deficit with deficit with our opportunities for professional development because of our sub shortages. Uh we are unable to provide release time to allow for meaningful relevant uh professional development to the extent that we would like. And this is a creative solution. I want to thank Karen Hoodie for coming forward with uh the in collaboration to come up with a creative solution. And so the proposal is for January 30th our students would follow a half-day schedule and the remainder of that day we would engage in relev
052relevant meaningful work with our instructional staff. Also want to provide a quick update on the development of the 2627 instructional calendar. Uh I think I've referenced I sit on the committee for the Wayne Fingerlakes Boseies. We uh have a draft that we think will go to the Boseis board next week. And so because of that, now Kelly Dixon will assume a supportive role, primary role in helping develop our calendar based on the Wayne Fingerlakes Bosey's calendar uh over the next couple weeks. I hope to meet with our unit leaders and then hope to bring that to you at the end of the month in January so that we have that ready for next year. And then lastly, wouldn't be a board meeting if we didn't have something of a facilities and capital improvement project update.
053And I just want to report that the 22 project is still ongoing as you know and have probably noticed we do not have work happening in our buildings. The two primary areas are middle school. We're still working on those trespo panels. Elementary school year counters. Uh we are at a stalemate right now with NASA and legal is involved and that's all I can say at open meeting. And then lastly the 25 project. Very grateful to our community for their support in Proposition One. I'm thrilled that we're going to be able to engage in asset preservation of our buildings. Uh the next uh step is really exciting. We start the design phase and so that will require me to bring in user groups so that they can have input on the design phase of our next
054project. And that concludes my report this evening. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Okay. District committee reports. Uh we have policy as mentioned at 4:30 today. Um events. There were a lot of them. Um, we had the middle school musical uh December 5th through the 7th. We had RPO concert December 6th at high school. We had a triam induction ceremony on December 8th. We had fourth grade winter concert December 9th. The 2025 capital improvement project vote. December 10th. NHS inductions at the high school. also on December 10th, the seventh and eighth grade winter concert. December 11th, the end of the 15 week 15week marking period on December 12th, the fall athletic season celebration on December 15th, the high school winter concert on December 16th, the fifth and sixth grade winter concert on December 17th, the
055makeup concert date, which fortunately was not needed because it started snowing after that. Um, middle school and high school interims were available on the 19th of December and winter break was December 22nd. No shortage of opportunities to go to events of the schools. Uh, four county school boards association and rural schools association. Uh, PCSA Hi. >> Hello. >> Um, just a few brief updates. Uh, we learned last month that we actually received two different awards from the New York State PTA. Uh, the first is the Trailblazer Award. We actually received this one last year as well. Uh, that award is given for if you hit 75 75% of your membership goal before October 31st. So, we did hit that, which is awesome. And then the second award is actually brand new this year. It's called
056the Students Rock Award. And that means you have uh at least 20% of your PTA or PTSA membership is built by students. >> So, yes, >> we've obviously all signed up our own children. >> Um, but I mean, a lot of our kids are coming to the events. They're helping. My daughter thinks she's the leader of the children's side of PTA. Um, so, uh, it it's really great to have them involved and see what it means to be involved in your district and volunteering. Uh, we were at all of the school concerts. Uh, we did the flower sales again, which were very successful. Uh, we also did, um, collections for Wayne County uh, schools uh, specifically for our elementary school. Um, one of the things we ended up donating at the end of everything was
057we had a lot of unopened packages of cookies at the end of all the concerts and I asked them because I was like, I don't know if you want sugar items. Um, but they said, "Yeah, as long as they're like new in the package, we'll happily take them." So, we were able to share that. And then, of course, all of the extra pre-wrapped cookies we had done for the last concert should have ended up in the middle school break room that week. I gave them to Megan. >> They were perfect. >> I didn't hear anything after that. So, um for now, we we don't have our first meeting until next week and then more. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Uh moving on to board reports. I need a motion to approve the cse case summaries.
058>> So moved. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> Opposed? Passes. 5. I need a motion to approve the November treasure treasurer's report. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> All in favor? I I oppose passes 5 Z. Fall sports report. Uh, first I want to thank the board for um rewind a little bit, meeting with Penny and Bridget last year and noticing there is we needed a um a boost in athletics and right sizing it strategically and you hearing that and honoring that was able to and it's evident in the fall um our coaches were able to coach and not worry about um equipment or not having enough games or etc. Um, so thank you for noticing that and I appreciate that. I'm going to go through each each sport at the
059varsity level. You're going to see a lot of awards and I hope the individual and team awards are not overlooked because they are this is years of competing, years of hard work and dedication. Um, so this is a awesome time to uh notice that. So first we have girls soccer. Um Sarah was the coach, assistant coach Steve Parall. As uh Miss Taylor said, he is a awesome human. Uh the league record was 80 and2. The overall record was uh 121 and two and there were 23 girls that uh played soccer. Uh some team honors is that the girls were Wayne County champs. They were a number one seed uh in class B2 and class B2 sectional code champions um for the second year in a row which is pretty impressive. If you go to the
060next one we have this is what I meant we don't overlook this because a lot of these achievements it's phenomenal if we have a couple of girls and to have as many we have up there is is pretty impressive. So, Lauren Schmeelk, she was a player of the year um in our division and she was first team all county. Uh Madison Story, first team. Sarah Niles, first team. Katie Cool, first team. Jocelyn Carpenter, first team. Natalie Schmeelk, second team. Ryan Hoodie, second team. Natalie Kerazinski, honorable mention, third team. Aiden Wing, third team. Haley Verbridge, Ali Verbridge, third team. and Mackenzie Frank 13. So, congrats to the girls there. Moving on to the boys. So, our boys team was also very successful. Coach Al Furland, assistant coach Alan Smith, and I left off assistant coach Christopher
061Riviera here. The boys went 146 and one. They had 21 boys participate in in the soccer program. Again, they had many uh awards as uh the girls did. They were class C1 sectional champions. And again, if we move to the next slide, there's a lot of individual champions. Uh Ben Burns, he made first team all state, which is super impressive. Uh I don't know off hand if we had many, we've had him before, but not too many first team all state uh athletes. He was also all sectional team, first team all county. Uh Kaden Hilliger, all sectional team again. Uh, second team all county. Colin Bergraph, second team all county. Uh, Michael Ishler, third team all county. Ethan Niles, all sectional team. Andrew Petroski, third all all county. Uh, Brett Byron third team all county.
062And Caleb Zuniga, all sectional team. If you watched, it was really exciting watching Caleb in in that sectional run. He stood on his head uh as a goalie. Uh so definitely all sectional team is welld deserved there. Moving on to volleyball which we did not have the as much success however we were very young uh we went I'm sorry the head coach is Richard Bowens uh we did not win a game however we became it was very if you went to the last game it was so competitive that we were almost there we didn't get there but um we have hope that uh we're we're going to get better and we have strong numbers at the lower levels uh to support them. There were nine girls that participated in volleyball. Moving on to girls cross
063country crunchy country uh coach Patrick Tyler uh head coach and they had a perfect 19 and0 record which again is you don't see that often and that speaks volume to coach Tyler and the time he puts in not only in the inseason but he does summer runs and the commitment uh he has these girls and boys buy into is pretty impressive. There were 14 girls that participated uh in girls cross. Uh some team honors, they were the east division uh champion and section five class C champions as well. Individual, we have a few um so all first team Hannah Governor first overall. This has been I want to applause here because that's again super impressive. Georgie Alexander third super impressive. Ali Alexander in her first year competing in cross country was seventh overall. Uh third
064team was Brianna Shaver 21st overall. Sectional shield winners Hannah Governor individual champion Georgie Alexander second class C and Ellie Alexander fifth class C. Section five allstars Hannah Governor first team Georgia Alexander third team state medals Hannah Governor third overall class C 20th in the merge and we had Hannah participated in federations for the second year in a row. Uh, every time I log into the uh, athletics, the Williamson athletics page, I have another message that's sent to me from somebody um, highlighting Hannah Governor and her uh, commitment to running and and her honor. So, uh, pretty impressive that we have some times that may never be beat here. So, moving on to boys cross. Uh again, coach Pat Tyler uh record of 16 and three. He had uh six, we had six participants here in
065Williamson, but we also had some in Williamson Marian. That's girls, but it should be boys, cross country, posties, news. They were also the section five class C uh champions and boys cross country postseason awards. We had Aaron Meyer from uh Mary and he was all league first team and Michael Marian boy. Let's help with this one. Jeff >> S Papa thank you. Um he was the first team as well. Uh sectional shield winners were Aaron and individual which is individual champion and Michael was the uh second class C. Uh section five all-star Aaron Meyer second team state medal Aaron Meyer uh 11th class and Michael in the 17th class C. And lastly uh thank you to Sodas for um taking on our two swimmers. uh coach Michael uh Considine. Um he also works with our
066swimmers in the in the winter as well at the modified level. Um we had Olivia Beers and Paige Putnham. Olivia Beers uh she was the MVP for the service and uh Williamson team. That is it for my fall sports report. I feel like the last couple months I have been highlighting our girls and boys soccer teams, our boys and girls cross country teams, and just the time and effort that the coaches and athletes really put in um to this and very proud to say that I'm the athletic director at Woods and to be here. >> Thank you. Uh transportation >> need. Yeah. I'm sorry. Sorry about that. Just leave it there. Is it working? >> Yep. Oh yeah. >> So um Victoria Delano Vicki um transportation director. Um you go to the next slide. Many
067thanks Penny and Bridget have been very supportive. A lot of help. Um I can't say enough about maintenance crew. They do a lot out there. The parking lot's been a lot since November even. Um it's uh it's pretty hairy out there and we have to the mechanics and I do a lot of bus shuffling to get it cleaned out. So it's kind of an undertaking to get all the buses back out so you can clean it and drivers aren't falling down because we have just enough and not even quite enough. Um so then next I a huge shout out to my mechanical team, my mechanics Scott and Chris. Um it's a busy schedule for them. You can go ahead. Uh DOT buses are inspected every six months, meaning each bus is inspected. It's a six-month
068kind of rotation. So like we have a DOT coming up on the 12th and we have I think five buses we have to present. So every few weeks or every month we have a DOT inspection of five or six buses. Um they're at 100% seven years in a row. That's huge. That means we we don't really have defects. Um so that means the guys anytime something gets brought to their attention, they fix it. Um and that's all with they they drive every week. Last year at this time they were driving every day. Um I'm not sure how we made it through last year other than just dedication by that team out there. Um so very proud of them. Uh the required DOT paperwork, it's a lot. Um you can go to the next slide if
069you want. Um, oh no, I'm sorry. I'm wrong. Um, so the DOT paperwork, there's a DVIR, which is a driver vehicle instruction or inspection report. Every day a driver has to inspect their vehicle pre-trip, post-trip. Um, they hand these in. They record the mileage and what describe the route they've done. And then Leah, who's been filling in for Barb, has been uh Barb always had to. She goes over those with a fine tooth comb to make sure their math is correct. They signed where they got to sign. All the eyes are dotted, all the tees are crossed because it's a legal document. It gets presented to Department of Transportation inspector when they come out. Um, so they have to be spot on and they have been. They've been Leah's stepped up to really in some
070big shoes to cover what Barb did out there. Um, then the mechanics, they have to keep track of a lot of information as well. I mean, they're doing brake inspections, um, brake PS, the PMs, which are preventative maintenance. So they bring them in, they look them over and you know oil changes, checking the tires, all that stuff and they keep track of it in a file. Um, so they have like hard files and then they also we work with a program called bus hive to help us out with tracking that stuff too. Now you can go to the next slide. Sorry about that. But let me jump back. Busright is our rooting program. So we use that to make up the roots where the buses drive to where they go every day. Um, it's a
071it's a good program. It's pretty user friendly. Um, so every year obviously fourth moves to fifth, UPK and kindergarten are coming in, eighth's moving to nine, 12 is out. So we have to revamp every year uh the roots. Um, once you get used to it, it's not too horrible, but it can be a lot of work. Um, but also this year was was kind of exciting over the summer, we um launched the parent app. I don't know how many of you are familiar with it. If you have students, >> we love it. Thank you. I think I had one person that was very negative about it and said, "Do not put my name or my children on that list. I don't want kidnappers and bad people stalking my children." You can't stalk your children through
072this app. Um, basically how the app works. And then people were there were a few concerned, well, can people see where I live? Where my kids are getting picked up? No, she can only see where her kids are getting picked up. So, she watches the little bus. I don't Does it have to show a little bus on your street? >> Oh, yeah. It shows a bus driving down the road. I can see where they turn around to come back. >> Okay. So, the other day we had a bus get stuck because it's snowing, right? And he said he was watching the parent at the next stop he had, but his bus is stuck in the park or in the driveway to turn around and he's watching the kids just standing there waiting for his bus
073kind of laughing at the bus cuz they were stuck. I have funny story today. I actually drove for sodas. We try to collaborate and help each other a lot. Otherwise, it's not going to get done sometimes. They called. They were in a huge need and I was like, "Okay, I'll come drive. I live in Sodas, so I kind of know the roads. I stopped at the one lady's house to pick up her daughter and she goes, "I got you guys driving into the bay down in Sodas Point." So, she showed me the screenshot on her phone. It shows my bus literally like it's going into Lake Ontario. I don't know why, but it just proves that there are glitches. So, parents do get upset sometimes. I try to explain that. >> It's not a perfect,
074but it's it is great. And I'm I'm glad you were here to say it because I really have heard a lot of great feedback. So parents can see when it's a cruddy day instead of standing out there for 10 minutes waiting the yucky weather. Oh, the bus is just around the corner. Okay, now it's time to get out and be waiting for your bus. So when the kids go, I don't want to stand out the boat. You could be ready because you got this app and it shows you where the bus is and they go out. So it was it's been well wellreceived and it's done. I think it's helped a lot for parents. Um, back to Busthive. I mentioned with uh the mechanics in Bushive, we can do it does several things. We can
075track a lot of the fleet the maintenance stuff that the mechanics are doing. Um, tracking parts that are used when they, you know, the mileage on the buses and when they've done break PS and they also keep a hard file. Um, uh, I track a lot of stuff for personnel in there. We have to track all the drivers have to uh according to 19A uh it's federal law and and there's also some nice said New York state education stuff requirements. Um that program helps me track it. So it'll alert me when a driver comes due for a behind the wheel test or a written test or we know when we our physicals are due. And there's a whole bunch of other stuff. I will not bore you with it, but it helps me track when
076they're due for a lot of different things medically and to be in compliance with the state. Um, it also works with uh field trips and sports trips. So, everyone probably has a little piece of bus hike or field trip request. That's how we schedule our sports and field trips. Um, and then lastly, uh, 247 is our, uh, video system. So, on the buses, we have cameras. I used to have to anytime you guys would call me to pull get the video, I'd be like, "All right, when you call back, where did you get it yet?" Well, no. I had to walk out to the bus, pull the hard drive, get it plugged in, hope that it wasn't glitching, and then I could find what you were looking for. Now, I can actually sit in my
077chair and if it's working, touchdown local. Um, they everyone, you guys approved it so we could get this upgrade and it has been much better. I can actually pull it kind of once the bus is parked at the busy yard as long as it's been ruining the past four hours. If you call me for video, I can pull it from my desk for the most part. There's older buses that have older cameras. Like today, I did have to revert to the old ways and walk out. Well, I won't lie. I sent someone else out to get it. So, they got it for me and I pulled the tape and that's what uh SRO Wilson was going to take care of was someone that did something pretty unsafe. So, that was what that ticket was about.
078So, it really is handy to have those stop arm cameras and the cameras on those buses to help with safety. Um, I think we can go ahead. Uh, the challenges we have out there, I think it's like what everyone has, I heard you talk about tonight, subs or just having enough staff. Um, that that's the biggest struggle. Some of the struggle is getting those sports trips and field trips out on time. I hope people don't think we're mean out there in transportation, but sometimes it's hard. >> Certain times of day are difficult. Um, afternoons are the worst. So when they call and go, "Can we get a bus at 2:15?" No, not probably. I'll try and we always do try our best. Please know sometimes we make it work and sometimes there's been a lot
079of compromising and Brian's been great and we've had a great working relationship with the scheduling on sports trips. So >> I call a lot of 215 to ask for. >> I always get one. Um, we we really do. We try. I might be hard sounding at first, but I always try. I'm not going to not try because I I get it. Athletics are huge. Um, and we want the kids to be involved. Um, you can go ahead. This is just real quick. Um, per fleet staff, we have 27 buses, 19 large, seven small. We just recently got a 26 Pacifica. It's really nice. Everyone wants to drive it. I didn't even want anyone to drive it cuz it looks so pretty on the inside. Um, the oldest bus we have right now is a 2018
080which will soon be gone. Uh, Penny mentioned it. We finally got three of the buses that were ordered it seems like forever ago. And our wheelchair bus came in new last year in like February. Um, currently trading in three large and one small. No, I think three large and two small. I can't even remember. there's been a lot of crossing over of our orders because there was such a backlog um with getting buses, but she said too large, two mega minis. Mega minis of 35 passengers, so it's not quite small, but it's not big. It's going to come in handy with a couple of the runs. Um staff, we need 18 full-time drivers. We currently have 16. We have one gentleman that um used to drive school bus and wants to get back into it.
081So, he's we're working on that. He should be in soon. um five monitors, um eight subs that work regularly, and that's what helps us get a lot of the roots covered and get um sports trips on some field trips out. Um and we do have a driver currently working to get their CDL. He actually works in the high school, so he might help with some field trips and stuff, too. Um okay. Uh just about the team I work with, they're very hardworking. They're really dedicated. So does today. I ended up driving for them. They had like four or five drivers call in a monitor. Um I don't normally I try not to go out and drive because really my place is to be there in case something happens, but it happens. Sometimes we're empty out
082there because obviously our job is to get the co kids to school for you guys to teach them. And um we try to help one another like I said earlier and they really were in a bad way. So I went over there and helped. That's where I'm saying we're very lucky with the team we have. They're dedicated. They come to work um and I they come to work sick and I sometimes have to go I got a sub that can come in for you to go home because you need rest obviously and I don't want to catch it. So, you know, I try to send people home and keep them home if I can. Um we try to have fun out there. Everyone needs a good laugh. Uh recently we've uh we did a haunted
083bus for the bus the the thing up there at the high school. Sorry, my words. Um, someone brought in a jigsaw puzzle before as the end of November, beginning of December and people sat around doing it and it people that never sat around together. So, you know, you have your clicks in high school, but we all had clicks in our workplace, too, I think, unfortunately. But it happens. But people that were together working together to find these pieces. It was kind of fun to watch. I wish I'd gotten more pictures. The end of the year lunchon we try to do every year. Um it it's we have a big lunch for our people. We have like a little fund out there where people pay for snacks all year and it pays for the lunch and
084and this year um if you want to go ahead and go to the next one. Just some pictures that the four there. They happen to be dressed alike one day. So we took a picture. >> Um 22 is uh one of the new buses that's out there being driven right now. They love them. They're huge. If you ever when you guys come out um in February, you definitely got to get on a Bluebird and get on a Thomas. It's a huge difference on the visibility and just overall comfort I think and a lot of the drivers think. That's the haunted bus. We actually last minute decided one of the people had a blowup driving thing and Scott the mechanic climbed up through the roof hatch. I go, "You're going to kill me." So he we
085got that all set up. But we we had a good time. Hopefully more will join in next year. Um, can you go to the next? >> Um, we had a visitor or two this summer as you can see on the left, well left is Penny driving a school bus. On the right is Bridget driving a school bus. And they came out. We kind of hung out for a little bit and we're like, "Well, you want to drive the bus?" We're like, "We don't have a license." We were like, "We don't care. You can drive it as long as you're not out on the public road." So we took them around Boseies. Okay. And I I remember so anytime you hear someone say that bus went flying down the road, Bridget was the first one to
086get behind the wheel. And she OH MY GOD, I'M I'M GOING SO FAST. She was doing 15. >> I'm kidding. I'm not making it up. And I got video even to prove it if you want to see. She literally thought she was going super fast and and Penny's like got in there and she's like, "It really does feel like you're going really fast." But I think it was a nice experience for them to get to get behind the wheel and and kind of feel that. Uh this is one of the pictures I was talking about the four people working on the puzzle together there. Um so that that was one of the pictures and I think that might be it. Other than that I just thought a little funny in the end. Um so we
087do for snacks for snacks. Um so I that's it. I any questions about anything? >> You guys want to drive a bus when you come out in February? I got it. >> It's an experience. It's >> If someone wants to drive a bus or learn to drive it, like is the school in a position to to teach them to do >> Yes, we have a trainer. I should have mentioned Fran. Fran works very closely with Brian with the sports trip and it and it's a hard job when you get into spring sports the reschedule. it. You don't want to be there anymore. >> I just scheduled 20 games for baseball. I'm happy about it, but I can. >> But of be rescheduled. Yes. Um, so Fran can we're a facility that can train our own.
088Um, and we're striving to keep that because it costs a lot of money to go to Boseies and have them train. It's like $30 some thousand dollars a year and you can't even guarantee that they're going to have the time to train your people. So here Fran obviously is one person can't train a ton but she's had at one point I think four people training at one time where she brings them in and she takes them out you know here there everywhere. Um and it's a whole process. First you got to get your permit and then you learn how to pre-trip a bus first before you're even going to do maneuvers in a parking lot and then before you can go on the road you got to master your maneuvers. So, it's a process, but
089>> yeah, >> it's doable. Do you know something? >> I'm just thinking Jeff is I think gonna retire soon. >> Drive. >> I think you just got prom. Do I have a responsive if he's on the board on the board? >> He can't get paid. That's what I'm saying. >> Volunteer bus driver licensed volunteers. That's okay. We're not going the other way. >> Thank you. Thank you for your leadership. >> Okay. The next report is 2025 2026 special education plan. >> Yeah. So you we you just have an a copy of it. We've just updated it to reflect this current year. Oh, you have it. >> Yeah. >> Um All right. So it the really big changes to it were just that we um updated it to reflect the current year's special ed data. So
090our current programs, our current students in program, and our current budgeting. Um you can click forward. I don't know. Yep. So, >> yeah. Now, you just keep going. Um, keep going. That's just all the definitions of the disability classifications. You can keep going. Keep going. Um, keep going. So, this is where, and one more. So, this is where the biggest change came. Um, we changed the name of our high school 1211 class to a 12131 class. Um, it more meets the needs of the students in that class. it better represents and it better represents the ratio of students and staff. So really what that means there are 12 students to one teacher plus three students to each um classroom aid or TA in that room. So it just better matches the students that are in
091that classroom. Um, so that's the biggest change that we've made and you and it's just reflected throughout the whole plan, but that's really the biggest spot. >> We need to be sorry to interrupt, but I'm going to go home. >> Getting at the office at 5 a.m. is very early for me. >> Yes, we just need you to approve it and then we'll write the date that you've approved it. Um, >> yeah. >> Okay. So I need a motion to approve the updated 2025 2026 special education plan. >> So move. >> Any discussion or questions? >> All in favor? >> Oppos. >> All right. You're up budget presentation. So, I'm going to go over our first look at the 2627 budget development. Next, um I'm going to start out by talking about the current New
092York State Economic Commission and then go over preliminary revenue and expenses as well as some of the cost drivers and then at the end I will um discuss the uh budget gap. Next. >> Um, so New York State had reached their um, six month mark back in um, September and they released a communication um, on their economic outlook and they are doing stronger than they had thought. Um, they had strong wage growth. Um, stock market was strong and there was slower than expected impacts from the tariffs. Uh, what does that mean for us? Um despite the positive outlook, it the state still does um face economic risk and challenges um due to federal policies and uh legislation um and some unpredictable tariff uh policies. Uh the future outlook uh by 2029 they are looking at
093a 12.6 million budget gap. Um billion dollar sorry billion. Um and then they are looking at the fiscal year 2026 um closing 8.8 billion below what it was in 2025 next. So what does that mean um for us? Really don't know. Um there's, you know, still a few months left in the uh fiscal year and the um governor really hasn't released um her her u her budget yet. So, I really don't know. Um, the preliminary revenue projections, um, the anticipated increase in the tax levy is approximately 2.56%. Again, that's just an estimate. I don't have all the final numbers yet. Um, there's the payment in lie of taxes, which is our pilot payments. They're expected to go up about $40,000 this year. And that is due to one of the um pilot agreements where for
094the first five years, the um any improvements that were done to the property where 100% um abated and we are now reaching the sixth year where it's going to go to only 50% of the improvements are going to be abated. Um, and that does have an impact on the property tax levy um, increase. Um, it does like lower that down because we are getting more money back in in pilot revenue. Um, it's still really too early to tell what um, our state aid is going to be. Um, I am seeing a little bit of an anticipated increase in uh the transportation and excess cost aid um totaling approximately like $116,000. Um, when you do look at the revenues here, uh, the appropriated reserves and the appropriated fund balance that was used to balance the budget
095last year is not shown here. So that we could get a real true picture of how much we're looking at um, an increase in revenue, which is only about 1.68%. 68% at this point in in time. Um, next slide, please. Uh, before we look at the expenditures, I wanted to talk a little bit about the the cost drivers. Um, benefits is a big cost driver. Uh, health insurance premiums are projected to increase. It's about 17 to 20% next year. Um, which is a huge increase. It's approximately like $730,000. So, um, projected retirement rates, ERS is going up slightly and TRS is going down a little bit. Um, and then of course we have our contractual uh salary increases um which are pursuant to the collective bargaining agreements and we are um going to enter into
096some contractual negotiations this year. Uh some of the other um things that can affect uh the expenses are IEP mandated services for students with disabilities and then of course inflation which right now they're projecting to be about 2.2%. Next, this is a preliminary look at the expenditures. What I did here is this is um basically the contractual salary increases for um next school year along with I factored in about a 5% increase in um Bosey's um costs. Uh and then um I factored in the health insurance um estimated increase as well as general liability um insurance increase. So, if you were to look at function area 19, special items, it's like a 7.69% increase. That's um to cover the increase in both these admin charges and the general liability insurance. Um if you were to
097look at uh the special education section that's I'm estimating right now preliminary about 7.39% which is special education placements OC's and just some right sizing of the line and then the benefits um it includes more than just health insurance it's also the TRS the ERS and you know life insurance uh workers comp insurance so when you factor factor all those in together. Um preliminary estimate is about an 8.54% increase. So our um overall expenditures are projected to be an increase of 5.26% at this point in time. Next, uh, looking at the budget gap, um, you can see that, uh, revenues I'm anticipating being at just over $29 million and current anticipated expenditures of $30,657,000, leaving approximately $1.6 million budget deficit. Some considerations um, is that the preliminary revenues do not reflect any appropriated reserves or
098fund balance which you know is used to help balance the budget. State aid numbers are preliminary and subject to change. Uh and some of the expenditures uh contract negotiations are going to play into that as well as well as retirements once we know um what those are going to be. And that's it. >> Thank you. I think it's important for the community to do. This is the first iteration. So obviously the district recognizes we have much work to do between now and future iterations where we actually close and drop that gap between revenues and expenditures. Certainly we recognize that we would not be putting out a budget which reflects a 12% increase tax increase over the tax cap limit uh to try and balance the budget. So we have some work to do. All right,
099moving on to the consent agenda. I need a motion to approve the consent agenda items 5B through 5G as recommended by >> second. Any discussion? All in favor? >> Opposed? Passes. Uh, old business. uh 2025 capital improvement project exit survey data and the only thing I would offer specific to the set exit survey was just an effort to be fully transparent with board of education as well as our community. Uh Kelly Dixon as board click did as board clerk did compile all of the survey exit survey data from the capital improvement project vote. uh it was nominal at best meaning I don't know that you would consider the number of survey responses we got as statistically significant in factoring into any decision- making however relevant for us to at least consider as we're futuring along
100as a district that's all I have to contribute I'm grateful for the folks who did contribute my recommendation moving forward that this is part of our uh standard gold the gold standard when we think about any type of vote meaning when it comes time to do the budget vote for 2627 I would like for us to have an asset survey as Even though we might want to consider formatting in a little different way, >> I agree. I think we should do it. I don't I think we talked about it that night. I I don't think very many people saw it >> because of like I didn't and I knew we were going to do an exit survey, but I didn't exit the building that way. >> Right. And it has to be away from the
101voting area. So, >> we have to strategically place it and like that it's not Does it have to is it follow the same rules as like >> from the entrance of the building of the voting >> area. >> Okay. >> Is there signage allowed that says exit interview this way? >> Yes. >> But think about when we have the budget vote where people enter and exit and come out the parking lot. So we can hope for nice weather, >> right? >> You know, but I think that would play it faster. >> We just I just think we need to be thoughtful about how we do it because otherwise, like you said, it won't be statistic statistically relevant. So then you're not really getting >> and I think the um loading dock is still within the
102100 ft. So I don't think we could either. >> Can we set a t? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> That's a good idea. Other than I'm assuming a sign is probably the only thing you could do. You probably can't say we have or we would appreciate the feedback as you exit or something. >> And we can say that and Nikki did say that as people voted. >> Oh, okay. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Right. Yeah. It's like almost in the middle of the >> I think we can't really do that. >> She said I have to do that. >> I think that's part of the like there were other events at the high school the night of this though. There's usually other events going on the night of the budget vote. So if you don't necessarily follow
103the prescribed >> path, you wouldn't even see like if I think about budget vote, if you came in, voted, and went to a concert, you wouldn't go back out and by the time you do, you might not be exiting that way. So, we may want >> we may want to put them in multiple location online. >> Maybe we can fill out afterwards. >> You do a QR code. >> Can you give a piece of paper out that would have a QR code? >> I don't think I don't know. I'd have to check. I I think that's still part of >> because it's within >> within the 100 ft. Yeah. I I mean, we'd have to check. There's a couple of um webinars coming up that I can ask him. >> I mean, I do think
104it's good practice, right? But I think we just have to if you want to get the data, you have to actually get a representative just fine. Uh any other discussion about the transit survey or the vote? Okay. Um amend the 202526 school calendar. Are we just going to move from here? Okay. I need a motion to amend the 2025 2026 school calendar. So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Again, just referenced in the superintendent's report, the rationale is just to provide a creative means by which we can engage on professional development of their instructional staff. Uh pending board of education approval will be positioned to push out communication this week's families so they have advanced notification around the change. going forward if for next year because I know you referenced looking at next year's
105calendar. I'm guessing that this um problem isn't going to resolve itself. Would we plan this ahead of time? >> We certainly could. I'm sure it isn't in the proposed calendar I just gave to Kelly. I almost would like to see how this goes and see what feedback we get from instructional staff. Again, I want I'd like to experience it just to make sure it does end up being meaningful and relative like what they're asking for. So, we could actually push off bringing it to the board till after the date of this. Like, it was my intent to bring it to you January 28th, but we certainly could push it off into February. We're not bound by any regular >> or we could revise it in February, right? If you >> wanted to because we've done
106that before. It's >> I just curious instructional staff getting any any PD as well or >> it's largely um opportunities to work as a curriculum team around specific to curriculum materials and it's the time we give them during the day with substitutes and we've had very limited opportunities because of shortage. Um in some cases you're buying or what what do they say borrowing from Peter that whole thing. uh you know so something else is missing out if we're borrowing people to make that happen. I appreciate it. Thank you. >> Did we vote? >> No. >> All in favor? >> Now I did not. But now I appreciate you more. >> Okay. Um, I need a motion to approve the board guideline document with appendicy. Appendices moved. >> Any discussion? >> Did you see my email
107today with >> Yeah, I can make those quick revisions. >> I mean, they were all minor. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> And I >> And then um I did have a question about the acronyms. That was going to be an appendex >> for me. The question is for me >> just for anybody. So on if you um >> you know this today, but you probably >> Yeah, you probably haven't seen it. So there's a place on here for an appendex H for abbreviations and acronyms. And I wasn't really sure what that meant. >> That sounds helpful, >> but I didn't know what kind of abbreviations and >> I didn't look at my notes >> like NISBA, NISK, like those types of things. >> I feel like if I dig back through my notes from our workshop,
108in district be okays. >> There's probably a New York either state ed or NISBA or one of those organizations might have a list, >> but some of them might be >> Williamson specific. >> Okay. >> So, I don't know that we necessarily need to reinvent the wheel. We could probably >> borrow someone else's generic one for New York State and then add our own. >> Um, >> would it be helpful to go through the policy and pull out any? >> I think we can get them all >> the guideline documents >> for the specific and it can be a fluid document as we see things. We can just always add and be like, "Oh, put that on there." >> Okay. >> And then once this is approved, can you put it in board docs? I'll
109put it in the board docs and then you can put it on your page on the website. >> Okay. >> I'll make it a whole PDF document and not just individual pieces. >> Okay. Awesome. Thank you. >> Any other discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes 5. Uh new business. I need a motion to approve the SRO agreement between the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the Williamson Central School District for January 1st, 2026 through December 31st, 2026. >> So much. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes by Z. I need a motion to approve an afterchool student supervisor stipen position at a rate of $25 per hour. >> So move second. >> Any discussion? Just want to thank uh Dr. Snyder and Mr. Roco for their collaboration with me around creating
110us a creative solution around how do we better support student safety in the interim for high school students between end of school day and athletic practices starting. So we had a safety consideration that we announced hopefully effectively addressed board action. >> All in favor? >> I opposed passes 5. >> I need a motion to approve the addition of a modified flag football team. >> So move. >> Any discussion? >> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> All in favor? >> They are juiced. opposed. Passes 5-0. I need a motion to approve a stipen of $4,500 for Julie Wheeler, special education teacher, for an additional duty for the remainder of the 2025 2026 school year. >> So, second, any discussion? >> Just as Miss Taylor referenced earlier, this uh supports the fact that we did have uh Nancy
111Miller's position. If we did not do this extra position for Julie, we would have uh a sub andor the new probationary person not having opportunity for lunch. It's we're required by regulation to make sure that person has lunch break. >> It's a good thing. >> That's right. >> All in favor? >> If I didn't have told you it doesn't matter. 5 Z. I need a motion to approve the disposal of 354 small group reading materials Q through Z. >> So move. Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes 5 Z. I need a motion to approve the discard list of books from the Williamson Middle School Library. So moved. Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Passes 5. I need a motion to approve the bond resolution for the capital improvement project that
112was approved by voters on December 10th, 2025. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> All in favor? I >> opposed. Passes 5-0. I need a motion to approve the Williamson Central School District extra classroom activity funds audit for the year ended June 30th, 2025 as prepared by Mango, Mezer, and Barb. >> So much second. >> Any discussion? Um, so there were just a couple of findings in the extra class audit report. Um part of the corrective action plan would be to um ensure that there is u timely deposits and then um one of their findings was that the revenues and expenses weren't easily traceable on their the profit loss reports to the general ledger. So, um I spoke with um our extra class treasurer um and she sent out a communication to club adviserss about making
113sure that they ensure that it's easily traceable. >> All in favor? >> I oppose passes 5. >> I need a motion to approve the 2024 2025 ECA audit. Correct. Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. >> Passes 5. >> I I need a motion to approve the Williamson Central School District single audit report for year ended June 30th, 2025 as prepared by Michael and second. >> Any discussion? Uh there were no findings in that audit report and it was done on the school lunch program. >> Thank you. >> All in favor? >> I opposed passes 5. >> Um I need a motion to approve the 2024 2025 single audit corrective action. So >> second. >> Any discussion? >> There are no findings, so no corrective action. >> Um, all in favor? >> I >>
114opposed. Passes by two. I need a motion to approve the mileage reimbursement rate at 72.5 cents per mile for the remainder of the 2025 2026 school year. >> So moved. >> Second. Any discussion? The IRS just recently released the new rate and this allows for the board to be in compliance with your own policy which indicates that you'll reimburse at the IRS established. >> All in favor? >> I opposed passes 5. >> Uh upcoming district committee meetings. We have curriculum council on January 15th in the elementary school library. Buildings and grounds January 21st at 3:30 in the middle school cafeteria. The wellness committee meeting January 22nd at is that 2:30? Is that correct? >> 2:30 is correct. >> 2:30 um in the board of education room. the technology committee meeting also 2:30 on January 28th
115in this room and the policy committee meeting on January 28th at 4:30 in this room. Um upcoming district events, we have elementary school interim reports available on January 12th, Martin Luther King junior holiday, no school for all the buildings on January 19th. high school midterms and January regent exams on January 20th through the 23rd. the end of the 20week marking period. Also on January 23rd from the Maryland High Schools, the Wayne County Music Educator Association Vocal County on January 23rd, 24th. I've been doing this. >> I had to think about it for a second. That's in Ryan's and the start of the second semester is January 26 for the middle school. Uh, board of education highlights. I have a couple. I would like to highlight Mr. Rock and thank you for doing this call sports
116awards. I thought that went very smoothly and has been a long time coming to split that up and make it and you got everybody to stay on time. So, it ended in time manner. >> Even though some wanted to increase their time, you said >> and I will say I heard from parents and students It means more when it's done fresh off the season. It's great to celebrate it at the end of the year, but I think it meant more to the kids because it was still fresh. >> So, thank you for doing that and making it happen. I look forward to the next one when the winter season ends. Um, I also I know we it feels like forever ago, but like all the holiday concerts and there was a lot of activity, but
117it's all good stuff. So, and then I just wanted to highlight um though she recently passed away, uh Nancy Orbaker spent many years as our adult ed coordinator um and we appreciate that. Anybody else? >> Sorry. >> Okay. Okay, public comment. There's no public left. So, I'm not reading >> even though we have done it every single hour. >> We're not done yet. >> We had a question. Do you know the last time William had that many? >> I do not. >> You haven't memorized all of the sports over the years. Uh, I think uh the most we've ever had at one season in 30 years has been two. I don't think I >> don't ever escalator >> because I know I know in 2009 I know girls cross country and girls soccer won sectionals,
118but I don't think there's ever been more than two >> two in a season. Yeah, >> I can find out. >> And then a whole school year. We got some more coming up. >> We do. when they go off to section fives like a little celebration in the school about that. >> Say that again. If you're going off to their section five that they made it, is there any kind of celebration in the school that the kids do? >> I don't know. I was curious. >> Like when they go to their finals or is that what you're asking? Like when they go to compete in
