members you've had this in your uh news and notes um for ver three this is a I'm not going to say a brand new policy but they pulled it away from um the acceptable use policy and put some more guidelines in regards to uh the use of email in the district for example you know stat members should not be using their District email is the primary email for opening accounts for shopping for things like that the district email should only be for email purposes um you know that there is no expectation of privacy when using the district email um accessing the the district's email system on personal devices personal use of the district uh email system so as you as you flipping through you can see there's quite a bit of guidelines um some training
that needs to be happening notification I think the biggest change to this is actually on the front page is when sending emails with personal private or sensitive information um in letter little let's see if he on second page um it's C in the middle of the second page where it says that any files that are personal private or sensitive information have to be sent through an inced and confidential way so our email system Gmail has the ability for us to lock an email so for example if I'm sending staff information student information to one of the principles um if you click on that lock system um it prevents anyone who's receiving it printing it and sending it Forward therefore it stays private as a private email um this is a a policy that is required
by law any questions about Poli [Music] 641 I had one question is um should board members do they fall under this category yes so once the policy is well yes if you're using your District um so once this policy is approved at the next board meeting um our tech department in misss will be sending out directions and how to go about doing um specific to private information but yes that a board members using their uh District email that would you would fall under this policy also the next is [Applause] policy 7350 timeout physical restraint so the district has for a long time had a corporal punishment policy corporal punishment policy is that under no circumstances should um the use of physical force be used student for the purpose of dis now the old and new
corporal punishment policy does say that a student is harming himself harming another person destroying property the administrator or teacher has the right to intervene um on that on behalf of the other student behalf of themselves of the property being destroyed that hasn't changed but they put a lot of um laws in place for the use of physical restraint time out rooms of which in Wilson um we currently do not have we don't currently uh you know operate under physical restricts there are there's training that needs to happen to the the staff so this 10 page policy only one page really pertains to um our teachers it's the if they're someone's hurting themselves hurting another person or um if they um are destroying property and administrator or teacher can intervene so for example it protects if
there's a fight going on school um teacher administrator can step in and stop right um the rest of this that has to do physical restraints is more for a very selective Behavior focused school program and making all districts um approve this we don't use those uh those kind of measures if we did we have to train our staff um it's more for um own program that has smaller class sizes than 8161 a class that has a lot of behavior concerns in the classroom and they would be using um these but we we wanted to shrink this down back to one page but when um this th turn look at they you can't we have to we have to keep it the way it is so like I said most of that policy do not pertain
to any District other than what I talked about any questions about that c can you just refresh me again on what the purple the differences between the blue and the purple blue purple um the the purple would be was left up the district discretion so that would be language um that Mrs C put in for our lawyers suggestion okay thank you the blue is what policy service at based on the law yeah any other questions I have a few more I'm going order policy 8210 safety conditions prevention um this policy has been here for a very long time 1999 is the first date that's on it um what you're seeing is the addition in blue and cross out of some of the laws that no longer pertain on the back page but you can see
in blue blue the instruction of child uh sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse all this students K3 district will receive instruction designed to educate students parents teachers all their full Personnel about the prevention of child sexual exploitation child sexual abuse the instruction may be included as part of the district health education program and it goes on the curriculum addresses um you can see the the topics of ab and c and um the district is providing that instruction from K in the Middle School it's during Health classes and then specifically High School school we use North Point this year to uh drive that instruction y my question is it says all grades in K through 8 what about 9 through 12 there's no law providing it but all the graders do take Heth or they have
to take Heth in high school also is provided High School not at every GR and I believe North Point also provides that instruction in our high school health classes any other questions about that and there's a mean for the law that that I get it wrong every time so I'm not going to use it there's a name for the law that put that in place it has been acted within the last couple years the next one on the docket is policy 8220 C technical education um so basically this one talks about uh that the district recognizes the need for C and Technical education um and reaffirms the policy strengthening the Ava ability of Career and Technical education obviously through our Pro program there's just some changes to language under equal opportunity um public notification and
access and if a child is denied um there's a grievance process for that also so this is based upon changes to Title One laws um uh section 54 uh laws that were change equal educational opportunities act that was change so I'm back you can see all the new the changes and different laws that created this Cas of change for us it's nothing different we continue to provide a a well-rounded ument technical education our students still go in their Junior and Senior year this policy is just backing down any questions about policy the last one is policy 8240 instruction in certain subjects um there are some editing changes throughout there's that beginning paragraph that they basically talked about that the board has the authority to course studies in school districts however there are General curriculum areas
and specific topics which the board must prescribe instruction to and all students in the district will receive instruction according with an appable law and regulations see see all these ones are already in Black are already here so that's that's nothing um new the new is on the back page um excuse me page two or three in which um they've added in the provision that the district must provide um instruction in sudden C cardiac um arrest um I'm not going to read that to you your per you're certainly capable of doing that I just wanted to make sure I I kind of uh identifi that obviously that changes to is made in response to what happed last last year and you know once this policy is approved we'll work out how that's going to happen board
members any questions about that policy that's all I have it policies for adoption item 9 a approve cpsc CSC 504 B minutes and I recommendations dat March 12 2024 motion second second any questions I want favor I oppos motion Carri item 10 Conference requests 10 a approve conference requests for the March 12 2024 agenda I speed through H can I have a motion soov second second any questions all in favor I oppose motion Carri superent Carter we have conf reports I do the first one is the conference report for Lockport Family Focus Group um in which our social worker Morgan Taylor went to um it's the family focus group meeting on Wednesday February 21st she attended the Greg Lewis spons Family Focus Group meeting held at the YMCA in N Frontier Greg Lewis is a

board member uh event thank you Tristy St uh superintendent Carter do you have a superintendent report yes I do thank you um and welcome um to our board meeting uh I'll start with last week Thursday um during the school day we had the up guys here doing presentation to our prek through grade 12 students um High School Middle School in the morning Elementary School in the afternoon BR down like grade levels and U I mean overall the response was extremely positive they're entertaining and they got their message of character education now that evening Thursday evening was our family resource night and fair in which kindergarten through grade five students were entertained with a magician in the library and the up guys entertain they guys entertained the parents and gave their message um in the auditorium
here we also have spti um dinner for the families followed by our community resource fair in high school k um to say that that night was a success is is not uh giving it as just as um had about 156 people sign up and a little over 130 people were eating um I was told and that means I know there were some who came that didn't end up staying for the men so I think wecp 130 probably closer to 140 which is bigger than last year the vendors are extremely happy with the traffic that they had in the Humanity resource Fair we're going have to do some uh going to do some um fancy footwork for next year um the grant that we've been using which is the uh our grant to help bring the
entertainment and things like that um isn't available anymore um so we'll have to continue to work on um best practices that bring people in that maybe don't cost as much as but are still entertaining the magician was very inexpensive and he was awesome from what I was told the kid jing a lot and u s Mr um so that was uh last Thursday Friday was our superintendent's conference day and it's kicked off at 8:00 in the morning with guys BR about an hour presentation um and I thought awesome up gave a message uh of importance have a positive mindset and then uh the elementary school had their uh morning active shooter drill and then they went through professional development in the the high school middle school completed their professional development some mental health and wellness
stuff Wellness some curriculum things and then in the afternoon we had an opportunity to uh work in your classroom um I want to just thank everybody who participated in both all of the events and help set up um it was quite a production um I've already personally thank the people who really put it together so I would just say thank you to everyone involved then Friday uh Saturday night came I got the opportunity to spend some time with our theatrical students in almost Main and I was extremely pleased with their with their uh performance we have unbelievable Town um in the district um and while I didn't quite understand everything in the in the uh in the play the the town of our kids are just awesome it was a busy weekend because on Sunday
I was uh at the Sheridan in ner Falls um celebrating two of our students one of them's in our room right now Jack Mahar and Ryan uh FY we're representing Wilson is our police athletically um salary athletes of the year um you'll see pictures in our my from the helm from that event and also the uh almost main um I want to remind board members that Wednesday April 10th is the Bose's annual board meeting um just quick on the code of conduct you heard a line saying that there's a public comment so for the next 30 days this code of conduct will be online as a draft um and if anybody has any questions if any changes from last year are highlighted so if you have any questions you please call the 751 9399 number
uh give the question ask give the comment whatever you think you needed we bring it back to the board that comment period for 30 days so 30 days from today that will be an action it that will be approved for next year and finally I'm done I got all seven items thank you any questions board members thank you superintendent Carter the only thing I really have is right before the meting started I guess we got word about the legislative uh budget that was uh submitted and many of the cuts were reinstated I don't know if uh trusty Seager wants to make a couple comments CU he's the one that brought the information forward to us so uh thank thankk you president car briefly uh I'm I'm still absorbing the entirey of the information but uh
as of last night old houses and All released their budget drafts and it does appear that they have they intend at least to reverse many of the most of the cuts that were indicated in the executive budget grft most importantly for our purposes the two uh issues that I mentioned after my visit all to meet with our legislators uh the two biggest ones that were going to hurt us were the modification in the uh inflation calculation which was under uh underestimating the amount of inflation and affecting our budgetary items and more importantly the uh changes in the foundation a formula including the elimination of the same harmless provision both of which we going to have a big effect on uh our Budget moving forward uh as of now the two legislative drafts coming out of
the Senate and the assembly uh put all that back so it it appears uh there will be some uh negotiating between the government and the legislature but at the very least I think this uh this really makes it clear that um the advocacy of you know our our small district and any others like across the state big and small U clearly had an influence here the legislators uh to to be in this level of uh lock step about this and just pushing back the governor propos indicates that that they're hearing a lot of noise from their constituents including us so I uh I think this is a good sign looking forward uh at the very least it's an indication that our Representatives list for when we bring these things up to them so uh it'll
be see what happens next that's everything I have right now thank you yeah thank you um trusty saor and about the same thank you for all your hard work even on The Cutting Edge of this and you been working hard with bued officials I appreciate you taking the time out going to all the with our legislators um the flight's not over yet I think it's still on the horizon so again please reach out to your uh elected officials the governor's office and let them know that you know C of public education is not acceptable at this at this time if I any one more president car I just want to Second what you just said um there was one thing that I think we've all heard from our legislators and elected officials uh when we
brought these things up it's how important we are from the community at large is so to anybody listening out there who you know feels as strongly about this is uh as we all do um do reach out to to our elected officials it does make difference on a separate note I mentioned the wonderful Talent of our students I didn't mentioned that tomorrow night 7:00 near the auditorium is an on Bradway presentation um third or four this will be I think the third one I've been to it's just abely outstanding so I suggest you can byy and then on Thursday the elementary schools having a good Park night so please if you uh you want to spend some time uh enjoying the parents and reading program um the park is Thursday night at the elementary school
a glow dance in the gy board members anybody to the order you're done um now is time for public form if uh you have anything you'd like to address the board please step forward state your name and address uh keep your comments brief and respectful and limited to the information that we [Music] discuss okay I don't believe there's a e executive session tonight I have a motion to adjourn second second questions all in favor I oppos motion carried good I
