excused excused exits are in the backfield yeah all right we have three supposedly three but the editors worth one on there for the first so I just wanted to kick it off by saying this is our appreciation week and we very much appreciate all the time you get the district all the countless hours she's been preparing for meetings being in meetings interacting with the public and supporting the school district and so we got you a little present that you can use when you're out of the town singing beacon player's performance or at a night game and the backfield Anthony's opening it was just fine not really sure how that I do but I play okay Liz a little buddy a beacon my box buddy and there's a little card in there too from yours truly

so everything away very personal so and but really we just it's it is I tried to do this all the time to remind folks that you were volunteers and and then just really the time and dedication you get to the district is is really something I my dad was the school board member way back when and because of all those things they just listed my mom only let him run once so he wasn't one term guy but I just know from most of the family perspective that's one more thing that takes you away from your loved ones so thank you so much for all that you do for us all the support you get it we greatly appreciate it and I know we have some other board recognition hi I'm Terry Lucido from the beacon

Teachers Association I am with Leslie Eenie and deke they are all co-chairs together for the public relations committee I want to say happy board Appreciation Night and thank you for coming um we'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members every single person who signs up at this dealership we recognize that this is a volunteer position and that you leave your families towards tirelessly for our students faculty and community we're truly grateful for all that you do for the Beacon City School District on behalf we would like to give you this small tube thank you so much so I would just like to send about the board we appreciate the recognition but I also mentioned this in the opening ceremony on the first day I just feel fortunate that my kids go

to the Beacon City School District and have loving uh employees that really doesn't benefit it benefits my kids but it's a really good benefit for the district you guys put endless hours and I always say I'm an educational field if we were paid hourly the public couldn't afford us and that's why we're paid sour by salary because you guys put in countless hours after school before school hours to help the kids so we do appreciate it and I do personally I think I speak on behalf the board that we do appreciate the hard work that you guys give us all right now to the scheduled agenda item song we have the Glenn M school presentation last year of the year and how we're currently working towards the board full effect plenum I tried to add

in pictures throughout the slideshow this chamber so you will see this is the entranceway and plenum right now our bulletin boards but on my PTO to speak to the excellent school I broke it down into the curriculum piece and then you'll see the next bite is for called chirpy so to speak to experiences for students this year when we started the school year off I met with grade level teams to really focus on the experiences that students will be having throughout the school year we have to fake this actually retired teachers bull fighting in the building she fights at 88 different countries and is better before more and she builds a hot air balloon with her husband Branson it is I mean she's just a world traveler and a wealth of knowledge and she's very

excited to work with the students last year she did a presentation on Egypt for one of the classes and she's going to continue to work with the other classes in the building based on their curricula and also Italian see how football and that Raven how her book is on the top right my community she is another local author she was at our harvest festival over the weekend and she has offered to join any folks in the building and then also to come in and do real lives in the classroom and talk about the different roles of the community there's a picture also if there of Dubois farm our second parade along with their Apple study went to the boys farm and with apple picking and pumpkin picking and then the bottom right is some pictures

of students using the new Z space technology which is augmented reality and virtual reality and Glenn has been so lucky to have that technology for the first I think months of the rollout and all third fourth and fifth graders have had opportunities to use it so that's during their library time and that's been really great really interesting it's our course cut the picture out but the girl on the right is like looking at a heart virtually and has like a little blast of sound it's very neat in addition to that or bringing the students what they are the Hudson second grades if they study architecture and at the Mallee and then first grade will be doing sugar maple in as part of a winter even had sharp so just opportunities to get them out of

the classroom hands-on activities things that help them understand what they're learning and make it a little more interesting speaking to the teachers support the conversation that I had last year with coming out of my comfort zone and pushing teachers to have the uncomfortable conversations and that has continued we started the Iran with assessments and we're starting data meetings right now as you just close out the first assessment period and really looking at student data and where we can have some interventions in place and tracking student performance and then you know with that is classroom observations and just informal business the onset culture aspect of the excellent goal we are continuing the kindness punch which we started last year we are also still doing the character traits monthly so for example for the month of October

our character trait is friendship we shift we used to have a what was called the Preble ORD and it was really PD is related but with the shift in response the classroom were now doing a kindness is contagious I'm a certificate so it either is related to the character trait monthly or when students are really going above and beyond to do it to do something kind we're recognizing them for that so they still they love having their native on a star or a heart we have all different shapes now to hang on the front windows so we didn't want to do away with that with a change to responsive classroom so we thought that that was a great way of recognizing them and then go to his growth on the run so we do have

growth in red for the Fall unfortunately we did not have young Triton in school but we do plan on having it in the spring and that builds community with either groups of girls or groups of boys and they have done you know different projects throughout the school of civility to speed up the work of our dignity team for the equity goal we had very long and very it was energetic and exciting our first meeting which is really just great we started off on the morning news show we're depending on you know the holidays or the celebrations having some sort of either famous person or maybe a word in another language we've been trying to do that every morning on the new show we are also in the plans of a family connection celebration so one

of the things that's come up in the kind of cyclamen is that the family dynamics can be anything we have students living with grandparents aunts and uncles maybe they have two moms or two dads maybe they only live with a single parent and the family dynamics are very different with all of the students that we have so really celebrating that and connecting with it and allowing students to share that in the classroom so we've ordered this card stock that sort of longer that they can decorate and show what their family is to them and who it is that makes up their family and our plan is to sort of make a continuation mural throughout the building of all the families that make up our school so the paper has arrived and the information is out

so we are excited and hopefully we'll have that up by parent conferences so that will as well mr. Contreras are ENL teacher is working with his students to do classroom performances he has planned to do a performance where each student is part of a bowl of fruit and the students will have like speaking lines and they can share out and the idea is that all fruit is different it tastes different but together it makes a really great fruit salad which is a really elementary way tying in our equity fold and then I added a couple books up there while are welcome and tango makes three a member of the equity team or dignity team will be doing classroom read aloud and going around to the different classrooms similar to what we did last year with

our family diversity presentation but just tying in different themes with the different books that we have to read and and having the conversation from classroom after doing the read aloud so last year when I spoke about culture of care we talked a lot about how we were excited that we were going to have training on responsive classroom and now we've had the training and everybody has fully embraced there was responsive classroom approach I think that this was the best start of the school year that I've had so far and everybody was really positive the picture on the bottom on this slide is actually our first faculty meeting so I have a TA and the teacher so it's a really really large group of adults sitting in a circle in the multi-purpose room for our opening

circle but it was a really great way to sort of break the ice and again take myself out of my own comfort zone to show the fact that the more responsive classroom was about and it really it started a lot of curiosity and next thing I know people are buying books on their own and they're coming in and talking about you know they're cozy corners or their refill stations in their classroom and morning meeting is happening and closing circle is happening quiet time after lunch it's happening in almost every classroom so the training I mean the a little bit for the teachers who went to the trainings there or go to but it's definitely something that has changed the culture of the building we're in the communication goal I just put a little like snippet

of what a typical newsletter looks like and then the top left is actually you know kini plans we had D CPAC DZ d c-- pac kundan I teach third fourth and fifth graders the Thriller dance so over the weekend at our harvest festival we had like a flash mob and all the kids who learned the dance came out onto the basketball court that did the Thriller dance and they loved it surprisingly the boys more than the girls they went dancing like you would not believe and we also revealed at the harvest festival our new mascot blends of lemon tiger he also did the brother dance so we have really been trying this year to make sure that we're incorporating as many organizations in the community as weekend fire prevention day we had four fire department

and a VAX come in and they just actively training with the third fourth and fifth graders we have Planned Parenthood coming into puberty presentations glistens gonna be coming to do a faculty presentation organized with our dignity team and then the mediation center of Dutchess County this is just in the work we'd like for them to come in and do a presentation around safety in social because that's been something that's come up a couple of times more at the end of last year but then also again at the started this year with 5th graders so we'd like for them to come in and just do a presentation for the 5th grade I didn't have I here my Twitter community sustainability we just had a presentation the top left is a picture of the energized guys from

Central Hudson as an adult watching the presentation I struggled a little bit but the kids loved it and it was all about sustainability and conserving energy and from what I heard a lot of the students went home and they were talking about you know how you have to shut the lights off when you go through the house making sure that you're doing everything you have to conserve energy and that was a pretty free presentation put on by Central Hudson with the PTO we have shifted to more fitness related fundraisings the last year we did a color run this year we're doing a booster thon and we noticed with the color red we we didn't really reach every student because they couldn't participate on the we handmaiden of Transportation so we're doing it during a school

day and it's a fun run so they set up activities and but we're gonna do it on our back field and all students can participate whether they fundraise or not and so we'll do like k2 k2 Fun Run and then a three five fun run on the back field allowing all the students the bottom right is our outdoor classroom just really hard to see up here but there's really great pictures on Twitter the PTO works with some local organizations and we were able to get a country that then the person volunteered to peel the bark off of and shellac for us so we have seats made out of this one tree and then one of the local companies actually cut up another tree for us to make our mulch and we basically just had mr.

carton who's one of the form of owner of glutton parents he'd built the frame for us and we ordered a sale and it was cheap and easy and we have a wonderful space out in the back of Glennon so that's been the most exciting part at the start of the year because everybody spent time outside even when they're learning so it's great and then finally with Garden Club and this has been ongoing mr. Contreras run started club and he collects recyclables throughout the building and he catches them into by plants and so he if you walk up to the front of Glennon right now we have nice little moms and he just that through recycling everybody thank you any questions great job Cassandra [Applause] all right good evening how's everyone doing tonight right well we

are off to a great start at jvf we went into the summer ready for a reset but also very excited to engage in a lot of the PD that was offered this summer really with more intention about our work and how we plan to roll out the 1920s school year also as Anthony white mentioned the start of this school year he and dr. Lando helped to set the stage for fabricate for complication and sharing with us just their sentiments and then also dr. Landau three simple words they were a Care connect in engage and so a lot of what we have been doing has been focusing on how those things relate and translate in our work and our everyday practice and interactions with students so as you may be familiar with some of the professional

development offered this summer included responsive classrooms dignity framework sustainable education curriculum writing and the engagement Institute teachers have really been working hard to apply those things but one of the things I want to mention before I share some of the details around how our work connects with the board event goals is that at the core of what we do as educators and as instructional leaders at power still lies relationships and so really tying it back on time back into how we connect in our school and then also in runner community g7 building classroom community through responsive classroom every morning student and teachers engage in what's called a morning meeting it helps to set the stage for the day they spend time sharing reflecting and morning meeting really helps to build and reinforce some of the

academic and social skills it includes a greeting it includes a share out and the students really look forward to it so some of the pictures you see there are from various moments captured during morning meetings this by Karen chose to use a quote that resonated with me just tell me and I think and I'll forget teach me and I'll remember involve me and I will learn it really aligns to many parts of the Beacon City School District teaching plan but the three that I chose to highlight were the skills and attributes of creative and critical thinking problem-solving and then curiosity wander on imagination and the first picture you see a group of students they spend time writing sharing their writing with one another providing feedback to one another and then using that to revise their

writing and the middle picture you see a student sharing her math work with a class and using problem-solving strategies to attack the math problem in different ways and then in the third picture which is one of my favorites you see kids doing what they naturally do just being curious and having fun and that is a really important part of learning and what we value and the excellent goal really addresses the curriculum and instruction piece as well as the school culture some of the key metrics and focus areas connect back to data curriculum and being a lifelong learner in order to be able to support students in their learning journey we must all be willing to learn and grow as it relates to data we've spent time and data team meetings looking at student progress really

focusing on how we can address and meet students needs where they are really intervene when we see that the student is struggling so that way we can be proactive in our work working hard as an RTI team to involve families in that process and communicate with them as well the curriculum piece I made some notes they are just about the eureka math and family curriculum resources specifically our math ta worked to organize voova folders for parents to access and it included helpful information parent tips that teachers can use when starting a new module she's sending something home so parents can support their child and engaging in the math work and then lastly the lifelong learning piece I consider myself to be a lifelong learner I know my teachers embraced learning they like to stay fresh

on what's new and current and relevant to support kids and we're doing a lot to share resources with one another especially when it comes to a responsive classroom as it was already mentioned it's something that has been fully embraced and the teachers are looking forward to continuing to grow and they respond to prosper work the next two focuses are on the equity and culture of care goals I will say that personally and professionally these are two areas that really resonate with me I like to refer to them as heart work it requires a paradigm shift or requires a change in the way that we think a change in the way that we behave and respond and so how are we now challenging ourselves to better understand who our students are who we are and how

we all relate to one another into new being on the surface level and then on a deeper level so we can best support our students and families people often reference to Maya Angelou quote which reads people may not remember what you said but they will always remember how you made them feel and so we met as an equity team this year we're fortunate to have the same equity team leaders of last year so there's some continuity they're really excited about the work and three of the questions that we focused on are listed here who are the members of our school community and what may be the barriers to access whether it be food whether be transportation we have our backpack program in place and collaboration with common ground forum which helps to support our families

and means so that they take a backpack of food home every Friday how do we create in the stand community where everyone can say and feel I belong here and where and when do students have opportunities to be affirmed and sell I chose to have this highlighted on this line with the culture care goal because I truly believe that those things come hand in hand you can't have one without the other and a lot of our work around responsive classroom dignity and also the focuses on social emotional learning help to bridge those areas communication so this goal focuses on varied methods of communicating with all stakeholders I chose to include three examples here one example is my principals weekly post which is an informative and celebratory weekly communication shared with faculty and staff really starting

off with just highlighting members of our school community and then also providing weekly reminders about things to know upcoming dates helpful reminders and then lastly each week there's also a quotes that may come from any member of our school community that references or connects to the three focus words the care connects or engaged also related to the communication goal is just challenging ourselves to have more personal interaction with families with one another some things included family fun nights meeting with different community members our community partners ships including Hudson Valley seed which I now believe they're called Lancer learns by Buddha that their common ground farm and new this year we have the Pilates program so we're really looking forward to having that in place in strengthening our community partnerships twitter is also an example and

also my FaceTime and the adults are school building FaceTime with children a third form of communication is the principle of monthly post this is the monthly communication of jbf happening specifically for parents and caregivers this is just an example from what was sent to this summer this was the July and August post it really just kind of highlights a couple of things for his parents to be prepared for for the start with school year and then also what they can expect of me as far as communication is concerned I did receive some good feedback from parents about this type of communication so I'm glad that it is serving a helpful purpose this is just an example from the September Post which is shared through the PTSO listserv and also posted on our school website the

sustainability goal it's really broken down into two areas systems and then educational programs as it relates to the thumb this is how we are approaching sustainability district building classroom level reduce reuse and recycle we are excited this year that in the cafeteria from the food services perspective we're continuing as the last year to not use the styrofoam trays which is great and then also we are using reusable silverware and so that's pretty exciting we're getting ready to start the Crayola spike old program and one of our parents and collaboration with the first-grade teacher is helping to leave that up and as it relates to educational programming I kind of organize this into three lens from curricula from community and from our collaboration so really extending our learning beyond the classroom a really good example of

this is our partnership with common ground farm in the fourth grade B study where they learn about the local and global impact of honeybees and then they get to share their learning with others in fact I learned that last year when I was talking to the students they were sharing some of their facts they also shared with me that honeybees pollinate one third of everybody who would be eat and I didn't know that and so it's really cool to engage in those our students and for them to celebrate and extend their learning beyond the classroom lastly I just wanted to emphasize that this is a journey I appreciate that we are on this journey together I invite you to come to Forrestal email me we can do a walk on top of the building you

guys can experience it firsthand what it's like to be in our building and join us whether it's to read a book or open maker space in the library we would love to connect with you on that level I appreciate your goal as Board of Ed members and what you do to support our students and teachers and I thought oh thank you thank you Chris fun question what's the Crayola okay so the Crayola cycle program another thing also had a running a sergeant and one of our parents reached out you collect old or markers crayons things that are not being used anymore you send it back to Crayola and what's collected and get refurbished if it's possible like it's old markers and then also part of the collection helps to go towards research and study around

recyclable practices and it's not just 300 that they take back and take back any brand of markers any other questions yes well for my purposes what I mentioned was in our my principle weekly post and just do a share out different celebratory things and our school community so it's just me sharing with the largest school community things that should be celebrated or can be celebrated that a staff member a student or apparently engaged students do as well it was mentioned the morning meetings that practice is similar across the board students have the opportunity to share well it can be reflecting on their feelings especially like any closing circle at the end of the day they share out thank you very much next we have that window mr. right and dr. Rowe long all right so

thanks for giving us this time we just wanted to take the take the board meetings in the fall and early winter just to talk about some of the things district-wide we're doing for each the board goals were talking about that could eagle just want to reiterate is it's it's both daunting but it's also a really great problem have to be following to amazing school presentations and a great job and and also I hopefully you're seeing and I think you are that you know in each of the schools present you're seeing a lot of these similar strands one of our goals for Sur for sure is that is that we're not doing things in isolation we're really trying to make all of our work district-wide and impact everyone in the district so there's our goal the

BCSC will celebrate diversity and provide an equitable education for all students by working to eliminate race ethnicity class gender identity sexuality disabilities predictors of student success and so that is a that is a goal that is it's it's very far-reaching it's a NGO that probably though I I'm not searching every district in the country probably a large number of districts in the country have some sort of goal that similar to that and also a couple other things about it there's there's no one magic magic plan that gets you there there's a lot of things that factor into working towards meeting this goal probably the most fundamental thing for me is trying to build a sense of relational stress there was a study I don't try to quote studies very there's a study done in the

early 2000s studies from Chicago and they looked at 12 schools that were undergoing a big reform efforts and schools had some similar kind of populations and they were doing similar things instructionally but some schools were much more successful in achieving their goals than others and what the researchers they study schools for three years and what the researchers found was the main difference between schools that were succeeding and schools that weren't was that the schools were succeeding had a sense of relational trust a strong sense of relational trust and that study came out very early in my administrative careers kind of right around when I started as a principal years ago and that work has always kept with me both because it made sense I guess my firm something I already believe but it's always been

kind of one of my guideposts for doing this sort of work at any place I've been creating that sense of trust creating a sense of belonging for the community is something that I've always been focused on so with that trust comes a lot of things or building that trust I mean it means trying to be consistent it means trying to be trying to be transparent with the planning and with the professional development the principal spoke to it the principles that our last word meeting spoke to it we've really tried to be clear about what we're trying to accomplish we've been try it we tried to be clear about the plan I mean we've tried to be clear about the fact that we this is a multi-year plan for the PD and we think those things

have factored into people embracing the work more than probably typically happens so that sense of relational trust isn't all about me it's about in the district so so we're really trying to empower folks also to to help develop it as well with families with students they teach with their colleagues probably the other most important thing is people trusting their colleagues which is which came up in the engagement Institute that's number two so obviously it's just focusing on really good instruction and focusing on not just test data but another really good form of the data that comes through teachers is very important to meeting this goal that happens in our classrooms every day and we always need to be sharpening the saw to work on improving that the importance of professionals development support I talked about

that briefly but is it's very very very important that we embarked on an Eric we'll talk a little bit more about to take the need framework plan that that we embarked on it by saying we're gonna do this for the next three years and each year we're gonna have about 35 people go through this and here's the days we're having it and these are just basic things here's the plan on you know all these the first year it's people on their equity teams and all of our administrators the second year will be we have a handful of administrators that weren't able to do it this year and more teachers third year again more teachers maybe new people to buildings it won't get everybody but it would get a really great core of people who have

been through this very focused training and supporting through the year we talked about the equity teams building principles well talked about them every one of these equity teams have gone throughout this training and are going through this training so they're able to support each other because they can't always just come from an administrators and colleagues need to trust each other finally I think one of the things that really gives of this is the importance of leadership and by that I'm not really talking about myself always challenge myself to be a better leader I really firmly believe in leadership is something that's diffused throughout an organization that's one thing some focus on at this point is that we've really tried to develop some new teacher leadership positions I'd focusing on the school the last two years

we've had teacher or equity leaders in each building this year they're getting a lot more direction last year was our first year doing it we have some you know Miss starts and stumbles and that happens to a new effort and we will always have those but this year they're all getting the same train they're all having the same conversations yeah they're able to tailor things unique leads to their building which i think is really important so now just the principle it's not just the superintendent teachers our ability to mean this work other staff people even this work and community members are leading this leading this work too so with this overview and just some early thoughts about this just a couple of updates as well the equity report card is something that we've really worked

hard on last year and unveiling and with the transition of assistant superintendents with bill coming on and having some things kind of right on a spike with appr that he had to deal with pretty much the first thing he came to work and we got a little bit delayed and making some of the changes with that working with someone a new person support us with that but our goal is by December that we get the equity report card relaunch it's pretty much ready to go we just have to make some changes and updates to it but that we will use as a guide for not only the school but all of our goals the other thing that kind of goes without saying I know it's obvious but all these goals are intertwined the culture of

care goal both and crystal spoke really eloquently to that culture of care and equity are utterly and meshed in each other the excellence goal which really talks about strong curriculum for all students also imagine that instead of trying to separate these out is a little bit of a challenge that you have this one we are doing some very specific things about the school this year that I'm excited about the other thing I just wanted to announce along with the afternoon report card coming out in about six weeks is that we are launching the district or not launching but we're getting this year's version of the districts that diversity and equity team equity committee going Antony Zhuang was the facilitator that for the board over the last several years before discussed that the last few meetings

about making it into a district committee that I'll facilitate with staff we're going to bring the same spirit to it we're gonna allow sharing also updated for the district and try to focus on one or two areas that we can work together on some sort of community-based work and so our first meeting is Thursday this week 745 to 9:00 we're actually switching locations used to be at the district building we're moving into the high school community room which gives us a little bit more flexible seating because much like everyone's been talking about we're gonna start in a circle and try to do some circle stuff to to get kind of an equal level of communication amongst the people who are coming so we're really excited to launch that and a Nancy and I have been

talking about both scheduling of it and ways to communicate it out - so bill dobrilo is going to talk about recruitment and retention of a diverse staff Ericsson talked about the dignity training and I'm just going to kind of bring it together so good evening everyone and thank you for allowing me to speak tonight it's hard to believe that I've been here for just a month and a half I've been so involved with so many things and it's been exciting for me in that I have a wonderful superintendent assistant superintendent encouraging me to to be out into the buildings and so from day one not only have I learned all the you know my position but I've gotten the ability to to be able to figure out starting with the dignity trainings there was the

engagement I mean it was such a fabulous way for me to to get to know people you know this whole social emotional aspect is not new to me but it's refreshing and that we can start this way you know and this this year just learned about so many good people and so many good things and so so many positive activities that the schools are going into all the schools I've been having such a great fine you know learning new people and what their needs are as as well so with that you know I wanted to talk a little bit about dr. Landau has you know posed you know you know this idea of recruitment retention that's me thinking about you know how to approach this in my division and you know obviously our efforts in

hiring the best staff are good here in and beacon nevertheless as we continue to move forward here in the beacon City School District we need to remain cognizant of the needs visit diversify our staff in order to meet the needs of this community that's obviously growing so so I put together some ideas obviously you know these these ideas will change and evolve over time but for me I wanted to seek out you know some some ideas that are that are concrete that then I can easily put into place that can be measurable in some way or another but can produce results and so in in order for me to in order for us to look at the equipment retention of staff I broke it down in in three categories and this was based on some

observation some experience that I had some research that I so the three three categories are the recruitment the hiring and retention of our diverse staff so when we look at recruitment some ideas that I'd like to put them to place and to continue looking at is our job descriptions and you know looking at the the way descriptions are detailed with an equity I so to speak so when when we're looking at just with jobs and responsibilities description you know part part of what I'd like to do is is also include some values that that may main outline you know the importance of working with our staff so you know so as I as I look at the job descriptions descriptions throughout the year I can you know I can look at changing those as well

looking at crew creating diversity equity and inclusion statements you know you know on our postings on our job descriptions throughout you know what we're looking you know in the hiring process you know that's something that we need to keep in mind as well and and then also some focus outreach outreach you know we we we post our advertisements on Olas you know that's like to reach out to other ways in seeking out people you know diverse nature perhaps maybe looking at you know community newspapers and websites oh maybe colleges and you know attending some some job fairs that that that may have diverse cultural backgrounds and groups as well when it comes to hiring one of the couple of things that I'm looking forward to doing is when as we put together our interview panels

you know obviously we've had that in the past but some of the things that we can simply do when we're looking at interview panels is you know preparing on handles for what it is that we're looking for and keeping them you know focused on the goal of the equity goal and you know what what what kind of qualities have been looking for people you know in helping people to understand that about biases and providing some training before the hiring process about certain biases that that people have when when they're interviewing and also even looking at certain interview questions as well and then once we hire people we want to look at you know the the training and support that we're providing after we hire and so there's something called onboarding and when when we bring

people on board we look at what is the appropriate training to be successful for the job and I know we need that for anybody that we hire but if we're if we're looking at you know you know as we're seeking more diverse staff and we're trying to retain them then you know it's important for us to to train and support them build trust build social networks with them you know continue with that mentorship program that we have here and and so forth and then and then the importance of something called stay interviews so you know when people leave a job you know typically we have an exit interview but I'm looking to also implement stay entities before people leave the job you know and how that is important you know in the process of training

and retaining staff so those are some of my ideas I hope to develop them a lot more and to report out as yes so the this diversity initiative or approach is then looking at all of our staff and faculty or specifically teaching positions or is there more of assessment in some areas than others well for my side it's the the education side the teaching staff I'm sure that the other side I'm pleased to see some very specific operational definable strategies here like stay interviews and like revising job descriptions so it's stated clearly at the beginning that there's an expectation I think these are things that that are very very doable they can be implemented and I believe they will make some positive differences thank you no I my intention with these initial with these initial

Bordeaux presentations was kind of just brush stroke a little bit what we're planning for the year but then when we're doing all of our budget work that we're actually doing like another round of these you know it doesn't have to be our salon but that we're updating with with data and actionable we're also feeding all of these actions into into the strategic plan that we're building that we also hope to unveil sometime around December slashed in January with this with this program that we're working on that yeah so so this is just kind of like the introduction and reminder and about things that we're doing I just also want to say give bill a kudos here or shout out that he really has been out and in all of our buildings very ever-present all throughout

the district and the thought of him like sitting down with interview committees with the principal or department head before an interview talking about district expectations really I feel like that also would make a huge difference because that's something that we had doing so I'm excited about all these things moving - you have a sense about how you identify what someone's onboarding needs are I can say that I have found it pretty fascinating having been on a board and gone through the superintendent hiring process that finding the right person and then here just like limits no other field in the world does this to people and it's a it's something that I've been really impressive about so I'm just curious how do you identify someone strengths and weaknesses is how you'll support them to transition into

a position is that something that you're going to be creating or is it conveying a party given since often so I've given some thought to it but I you know obviously it's something I'll be creating you know my time here you know you know people need to be given time to adjust you know through the evaluation process through some initial conversations through the mentorship program that we have you know that gives us an idea to individualize some the needs that people are having you know when they're here and how we can best support them and train them to do the best you know I think I think some of those information is probably going to come from these stay interviews he's doing and I'm imagining you're gonna be doing those some folks that are in

their second third fourth years you know because they're kind of in that are they really committing to beacon or not stage of their career and and I think we probably would get a lot of really good information about things we did well and things we didn't do so well one thing I would add to that and I've actually heard this from summer of new folks so you know we had that PD so laid out this summer some of our some of our brand new folks were able to do it and now granted most of the people that did the training we're returning folks but it was all laid out and so some people we had just hired were able to do some of that summer training and some of them gave us feedback just the

power of doing some of this training or knowing hearing from their colleagues and knowing they can do it next so I think really helps build that consistent culture across the district as well so those are just some little things but I think you're going to gather a lot of info they introduced is that do you already have the framework for that like an instrument that you're going to use then sort of standardize across or are you going to do a few or the stay interviews part like a performance evaluation process or do you have goals that are in line with and their questions just bill I know Goshen did like a whole hiring thing in their auditorium and had like different sections like two years ago or something there was an article in it and

uh leadership magazine about it so I know that you're familiar with some unique practices yeah yeah yeah the elementary school did something they did some interviews it's pretty cool I was part of the process yeah I think I remember reading it and like leadership magazine as a part of your stay interview but you could ask with where they feel safe and how they feel safe bringing up ideas that are not easier sort of somewhat controversial you know if they feel safe doing it if there's a person that they can go to and or if they don't thank you thank you so I also want to give a shout out to Eric right last year as I mentioned we struggled a little bit finding the right the right balance to the training that we were providing

our equity team members and so we restarted with with a different with a different outside facilitator who's bringing the stigma for training and we started this summer with two days there's four days left date three is tomorrow which we're very excited about and that it was powerful Eric will go in more detail but I I was pleasantly surprised by how invested all of the members were in this training and how they really kind of let go so I mean that stuff you need to let go of and we were very real with each other and we had some pretty difficult conversations and some productive conversations and so that was just the first two days so the interesting to see what tomorrow brings but Eric's going to talk a little bit more about about what is

above in the stream good evening when I think about the dignity framework and in the two days that we've had thus far and in listen to the presentations that we've had to see me you know keep hearing the word create a sense of belonging so that's why the equal access for all students when you talk about trying to keep our educators in our dish you know creating that sense of belonging is super important and from day one this dignity framework that you know some of the things that I've resonated what it means that it was a fun quote that stated that diversity is inviting everyone to the party but inclusion is asking everyone to dance and when we think about what that actually means you know we you know think most districts throughout the country

have some work to do around you know in inviting everyone to dance you know because once you're able to have everyone feel engaged you know we know that statistics will show you that once you do that that discipline issue they begin to diminish and students become engaged in the process and achievement increases so that was something that was very powerful it was it was something else that that wasn't one of the hot include that very deep as well he stated identity and social context influence the frequency with which your you experience volatility the more social identities you have that are they start and tired from marginalization and oppression the more opportunities you have to be vulnerable and in context and as a result you have dignity by you know we have to really as additionally

begin to think about what that means and how we can ensure that we are we are living our most fragile students go home that's been what the first two days has really been about you know you're not training day one focused on attention to excellence perfecting I believe focus attention on excellence with equity established in a brave space you know learning to communicate techniques that we begin to have those conversations that were you know we did this without such an account with just different things that actually they too was about preparation and exploration you know developing as a learning community building a collective of advocacy but having constructive conversations about race class and culture when we begin to sit down and just have those uncomfortable conversations that became as we got midway through there was

a shift who has in the beginning was what a sense of quiet in the room but as facilitators begin to tell this story and some of the things he had to overcome people realized that it was okay conversation and as a result we got to know each other I'm not just as educated but you know what some of the differences that we had with so many similarities and also some experiences that we've had to endure throughout our career they three will focus on exploration will be considering intersectionality and an influence on the lot of the lived experiences because schools and classrooms will focus on isolated dimensions of difference such as race you know once we begin to pinpoint that will begin to understand why why I think that honestly you know is a gift that

you know we learned about this framework and that we are actually taking audition this theory philosophy because I think that angle will happen is that we will we will come together and we are learned how for the differences you know as opposed to isolate so you know we have we have a ways to go we have we have three more trainings after tomorrow but I think if you are on the right track I'm excited to come back and to share learning because I think that we have chosen you know the right organization to leave you know in the first two sessions you know you can see that that's coming you know unfortunately you know we have time now where people are leaving the class and you know they have lots of things on their mind

but I think tomorrow will be equally engage so like I said I look forward to coming back and sharing one of our one of our goals than that sharing the future with a lot of the things that we're doing is to bring some of the people who've gone through the training it's to speak to the board too so we want to you know broaden the number of voices that you listen to besides the three or four of us we do ever meeting and bring some of the teachers and other administrators who've done the training to talk about their experiences as well just briefly you've been hearing from each of the principal's about the equity teams this is our year or two of this already kind of spoke to it at the beginning of the time

that they're all doing this consistent training each school has three teachers who receive a stipend to do this work and help lead it and it's you know principals and their teams are doing things and faculty meetings they're putting constant information out to the staff they're planning some community events so there's different things happening into each school but every school has a much more involved plan this year that they're moving forward with which is exciting and then just briefly it was very hard for us to talk about all these things tonight and know that we have another future board meeting which we're talking about the culture of care because these things are very intertwined so I won't get into it now but you know a huge part of this work is that culture of care goal

which we have the restorative practice work and they're responsive classroom work all of that and the revised code of conduct which we want to do some updating on so we'll do that the next word meeting but I felt it'd be remiss of us not to mention that what a huge part of all this work this culture care goal is the things doing there so we look forward and are excited about sharing some of that out at a future board meeting so in the winter spring when we're doing the budget preparation we'll come back to each these goals we'll have more data connections to talk about and some more voices besides just us administrators in terms of their thoughts about being a part of some of this work okay rightful question Thank You mr. right and

you work so far I'm curious to know if there's anything that came out just speak we had a platoon we would talk about upbringing and some of the things that you know invited from some of the members I thought was deep you know because and what it did is allow me to reflect or sometimes why you shouldn't be judged and and I thought that was I thought that was a really good experience but even just the way that was actually set up its what everyone it was that safe space right everyone company is sharing and you know then we begin to talk about how we are similar and I think that's the way you break down thank you all right I need a motion to adjourn to executive session to review the employment history of

particular individuals and to seek I'm sorry it's just the proposed acquisition sale or lease of real property only when publicity widow should only be about ten minutes before we get started I'd be in the agenda I would like to ask everybody to please rise for a moment silence the monomyth silence is requested for Leanne photographer I'm a senior who was the first african-american to served on the beacon Board of Education and he later served in his tenure as important as board president thank you I think I believe marry share that with the board to share so everything thank you Mary all right we do have a couple agenda items that need to be changed and they are changed on board docks it is item 13 point O 3 C 7 it was the corrected title

and 13.04 g7 name was added could another board member see any other items that need to be corrected on the agenda hearing none we're gonna go to student and school presentations seeing those students or schools here we're gonna go to parent groups ok public no public has come to speak so we're gonna go to super attendance report all right just a few quick updates we have our first district emergency response team meeting this week on Wednesday at 9 we have our local emergency responders attending we have administrators there so working on rounding out the entire committee and I think this is one that the board was gonna rotate through so all of our plans have been submitted to the state and everything's moving forward they're just always fun to you know give a shout-out to

the principals to really coordinating a lot of this work and putting a lot of time and thought into their plans and also our relationship without terrorists continues every single one of our building teams has gone through another training this year not only did they kind of do like the basic review training that they also did was called a tabletop exercise which gets the emergency team to kind of deal with simulated emergency so that that was really that was really great we have mentioned we have our diversity equity committee starting on Thursday night 7:45 someone asked me a question at the break and just to clarify that is open to the public and there will be you know different parts of the meeting where we'll have you know kind of a more free-flowing conversation about things

and then and then lastly I send a notification out to the BCSD community we also put something on our website but we're going to have a public hearing for our smart bond proposal at the first meeting of November which I always forget the number 12 so the hearing will be on November 12th right the beginning meeting seven o'clock all the information about that is on our website or the email I sent out to the people who receive emails from me within the district but as quickly on the website that you can find the information there as well and then lastly just a huge I know I've done a few things through this but the other day that storm we kind of had some unexpected power outages right after the high school day started the power

went off here for a fairly lengthy amount of time and then a you know went out and run about at the same time and teachers and staff and administrators really did a nice job keeping everyone safe keeping everything calm and center ops and a great job of communicating with us because then they got the power back on and then we ended the day with Sargent having the power go off that sergeant doing dismissal with power out there so in all three places staff really just kind of rose to the occasion really handled things very calmly I was at each of the buildings for all of that and people really did a great job of dealing with an unexpected thing which is the nature of what we do so thanks to those three staffs or handing

that so well one question for the emergency you know drills or the tabletops that you do is there any kind of a you know post event critique where you're getting you know any feedback or lessons learned and any we do each building team actually meets them does does a review of an incident and we actually do it at the district level team so I have the district level team on Wednesday mark and I set the agenda today we're going to review how we dealt with the power outages and just not that we had any major problems but little things come up you know and and so not all of our principals are on the committee but we have high school middle school and one of the elementary principals on so we're going to debrief with

the whole group about how we handled that we tend to things happen both outside of beacon we kind of not really degrees those but we discuss those at the district team and then when something happens internally we discuss that district team and every building team just a little review process as well having mark in the job of director of security mark Thomas is really helped with that because he'll go over and facilitate those conversations places to thank you all right all right committee reports including board comments we're going to start with our student advisors to the board hi everyone so I just wanna make some comments about the elementary school presentations before so I attended item and I also have younger brother hundred it is fourth grade in that second grade and all these new

initiatives about include getting kids excited about school it's working because they come home and they're just like surprisingly so excited to talk about school Madeline just went into the apple orchard and she came home with his holy apples and so excited to show us then this antenna worm and Miss sorcerer she's eyes we knew there and she's just great I just hear it firmly everybody that what I mentioned that our family goes to class especially my mother and grandma always talked about these flowers she has that in the front very strong and I it's just like the little things that count like it's great and I just want to talk about the senior nights that we've had for sports teams soccer was last weekend volleyball is this week and it's just great that you have

such an amazing coaching staff I was so dedicated and really like recognized that I'm a senior night on Thursday was my own for volleyball and I think I'd cry and and he's just one of the most dedicated people ever and he was crying you were crying it was just it was just great how like you have such a relationship with your coach and they care so much yeah thank you hello I was also going to talk about the elementary school presentations that they had earlier tonight and I was on the Avenue and I remember when I think it stopped around and I was in like third grade but we had like read her usual lunch trays that we would bring up to the window and they would watch them move we use them and then

I remember they stopped doing that and we had styrofoam lunch trays and like even when I was eight years old like I realized like how bad that was for the environment and that it wasn't like we went from having something that was really good to kind of like going down and now back in high school I've noticed that we have we use in the lunchroom they're not reusable Bob play compostable x-rays and it's really nice to see that because it's something that all the students have noticed like that it came back like I had friends were like oh my I didn't even notice that this but it's like things like that like you can tell that the district does care that it's really trying to better it's going back into like sustainable things just like

they were all talking about and okay so awesome I was going to talk about the computers that we all got in the high school and I remember when I found out we're getting computers I had my own computer at home I was like oh I'm probably really not going to use it but I actually use it a lot it's really helpful to have the class our teachers use them a lot I have mr. Johnson for us senior English and we use it a lot in class and so that how you can print out pull into papers that we don't need that we only used once he sends this to us on his Google classroom and we use the articles you read in class we discuss them it just stays on the computer it's really helpful

also we have the help desk so it's I believe the class is called networking systems but they have it pretty much all the parents throughout the day it's run through mr. Bursch in the head of technology I'm not sure what his name is but it helps a lot like anytime students I saw a kid come in with a fully cracked screen one day but they don't they don't do Matt Dale who did a new computer they all do fix it I've had you go to them a few times because sometimes my mouse doesn't show up on the screen I like to do one thing that I wanted to bring up that I've noticed for a lot of people is in the past years printing has just been we go on the desktop computers and you

were able to just send the whatever you wanted to print out just right to the printer and like multiple compete would do at once and now the printers are you have to sign in you have to go through a different computer that's not the one that the school gives to you we have special printing computers and sometimes we give a lot of people in the library can take like 15-20 minutes to print one paper so I brought that up to the technical guy who's a head of Technology and he said it's because it makes it a lot easier for the teachers but it's something I want to bring up here because it is a lot for the students especially when when you're a junior senior you a lot of papers that you you're the library

you want to be able to get in and get out quickly that's what I've always been used to and now it's more of a hassle to be able to credit which is something that's difficult okay mr. mr. Keely our director of technology he's actually coming kimber of the exact day but he's going to do a presentation of the board meeting in the next couple board meetings so you can talk about it at that meeting thank you any questions that's do a great job all right we're gonna go to the facilities okay okay okay we put the we have the discussion at the facilities and operations committee and the committee wanted to move forward a little quicker to give us a little bit more time after that to plan the new capital project that we're hoping

to go out and vote on in December of 2020 so we that it is currently out we are expecting to get some kind of the RFPs back by I think the very first week in November so within a week and a half so we'll have some more information great and we did at the meeting we received an update on the current capital projects and what's still left to be done and we began to discuss the process for the development of the next capital project which includes using the facilities the survey the buildings and condition survey from the last project possibly doing the new buildings and condition survey based upon the whoever we hire as an architect and an engineering firm looking for using the input that we received from our energy performance data to prioritize

performance we're going to have Matt together and put from the administrative team based upon their review of their buildings and align them with the goals of the strategic planning on we'll develop a public input process to include community parents students and additional stakeholders will begin discussing the mechanism for public input as well as a communications and outreach plan which is to be determined we've planned we're gonna do a plan design based upon what must be done what would be nice and what would be a sort of marquee project and an analysis of what's a law plan design and then propose a plan adopt the plan and then put it over in addition we had some discussion around you know district growth and around the budget developing plans for and the facilities budget you know for

the annual budget and then we discussed the sustainability findings presented by in the Sullivan who did a fuel analysis and you know found that we were doing very well in terms of our energy usage that their facilities the next meeting will be after the first board meeting of the month we're doing it the members to 12 okay so it's the first Thursday is Alexey after that 14:14 just additionally I on a personal note want to draw attention to Mike that October is dyslexia Awareness Month this is not something I talk about very much my role as a board member but I have a dyslexic child and one of you know as we talk about equity and diversity we have despite 15% of the population is likely dyslexic dyslexics are more likely to be represented as

artists entrepreneurs and in prisons that's a big difference between where you end up has to do with pretty much the color of your skin and the amount of money in your parents bank account because the cost of making of the difference between the gaps that occur due to not being identified not getting proper supports can do Braille an entire student's career in life and sense of self so it's just something I want to highlight great thank you policy yeah so we had our first policy committee meeting in the year a couple weeks ago I was very productive we came up with a general strategy organizational strategy and calendar for the year where they have monthly meetings the first Monday that is not a board meeting night at 7 p.m. so our next meeting will be

November 4th we know I think we all know that we have or a little bit of a backlog on getting our policies update it's been that way for some time we see the tunnel there is light at the end of the tunnel so we have a ways to go we have approximately 80 some odd policies that are required to be updated that's not including policies that need to be reviewed annually so we're proposing or we set up a schedule of trying to get 50 of these mandatory policies updated and reviewed in the next year so that comes to we about we have eight meetings scheduled for the year so that comes to about six policies per meeting which means that for our board meetings we'll have a three policies cover take which is doable right

so we feel like this would be a pretty ambitious but decent accomplishment we had some nuanced plans and terms of how quickly we're going to try and get the policies to the board earlier than we normally do try more time to review but that's what we did that's about it we're gonna work from back right right we're working from 9000 down to zero why that way but he started a couple years ago going from 0 up we never made it into the 9000 so also looking at what policies and correct me if I'm speaking currently here at James but um going back one you can see the accomplishments a little bit more so it will keep us going and driving just based on how they were groups and looking at what ones need to be

updated and we saw that if we went backwards we could see the accomplishment like happening more it's like honestly she'll see that's purely psychological there's no reason could help you know okay just so you can see how yours here's what's coming up so it appears a lot of majority of the policies we're going to be looking at that's somewhat like boilerplate language I don't think there's going to be a lot that we're going to be spending a lot of time tweaking did you did you my money mister did you mention how many we're going to do each at each meeting the rep three suit well three each board meeting there six each policy policy they don't give or take that we sometimes more sometimes less company there will have zero to two reads for every

one is still too easy I might have three first reads and three second read permanent network meeting yeah and let me know how it goes I mean if it feels like too much we can be responsive but I'd like to start aggressive see how much is the plan also to to have a legal review for anything that if we need to what we're using now and my understanding is our legal review is on call during our policy committee meetings which would be a huge advantage because we don't have to have the backlog waiting to get it back any questions all right public relations my strategy here is that when I go to the event at the end of this week I will be conferring with members of the staff there who deal with the legislative

relations aspects to pick their brains as to what is really a good schedule be able to coordinate effectively with them between that schedule primarily starts when the year starts and the big tomato was the state budget process so little of that occurs between now and leaders however that is a good time when I think we should schedule what we've talked about before which is taking a closer look at a website and seeing how we can do some improvements to that some upgrades we need to schedule a meeting and you know there being mr. Feeley into that mix so I would look forward to talking with dr. landahl and seeing if we can find a good time on the calendar to do that it's basically where it stands now you know that emeritus has been providing

us with emails relating to the things that you can vote on as our delegate at this bow and pretty much leave the ball in your hands and we've had discussion on a few of those and they're comfortable okay any questions great I don't have any comments except thanks for the shirt and the treats the same I really do appreciate the recognition or appreciation cards and shirts and teachers can be ta entries I do it is a lot of work but I do appreciation all through the year and across the years whenever you see things going on at school you know that's that's good feedback you see the consistency and the presentations across the schools it was one thing that was really you know something we want to drive for when we get a feedback you

know that programs are working and the atmosphere in the community is building within the schools and across the community you know that's all a lot of I feel a lot of personal satisfaction my appreciation Antony well thank you for helping me the face value upon fenced and had not said that the works League committee the new Diversity Committee I guess Diversity Committee 2.0 is meeting about Thursday I will be in DC all week so if I open it can attend I'd appreciate it if it's change right that's that's all I have to report at the moment I did forward some emails and some FY eyes that I that I saw one is the the lower Hudson Schools Board something or other that they're having a digital citizen forum thing that was interesting but I I

can't focus as a policy committee meeting so I just forwarded if you're interested know there is a registration fee on that and then I forwarded something about the PTEC program in Newburgh and interestingly enough they have engaged IBM which I believe iBM is in Dutchess County so I'm gonna scratching my head on that as to whether or not since we all got just County whether something that we understood as well and that's all right thank you Thursday Thursday night here at the community room in the high school yeah all right um I just have a couple of dates one before I get to my updates bill you chair the curriculum Erika choice at curriculum correct any updates I don't mean to put you on the spot but Meredith usually does it and she's not here

next meeting date bill for the Wellness you do wellness right I believe we have action items working on so so people from all the schools came and we're able to share about what they're doing in their schools we're working on family fun night recipes for tastings integrating meal viewer on two monitors family nutrition education great thank you for the update so I just had a couple of dates one was at lost burning we asked Kelly to reach out to the City Council and to see if we could have the tax assessor attend a board meeting to get information prose tax exemption for historic properties it seems like the response was there is currently one on the books that she could talk about but we have nothing regarding any proposed new legislation or talked about at

a city council meeting but there are no details so they're kind of it seems like this administrator doesn't know what we're asking for in regards to what the council person reached out to us about the tech exemption for the track properties so we wanted one of them to come here and give us information about what would they be the impact or if we can sir any questions about what what that would look like for us as the school district so we reached out to see if they can come to a board meeting but it doesn't seem like right now no he ain't that was a so the first one was Kelly reaching out to them asking if the Assessor could come present about the tack exemption of the historic properties pretty detailed response and the

response back to Kelly was there's currently one on the books that she could talk about I'm assuming the Assessor could talk about but we having nothing regarding any proposed new legislation it was talked about at a city council meeting but there are no details I think there were some details on the agenda for that particular council resolution that they sent us that we want them to come explain so I'm updating you about this because Kelly reached out to see how we want to go forth with we reached out it was yes no we said we reach out to the administrators so that was one update fall under give you that it was followed up on doesn't seem like we made any material the city's administrator I said sounds like you didn't go over once before

they sent us a resolution but they don't know we're asking for it's very unusual yeah but we don't know yes you're right and but we don't know the impacts and and the the professor gave can speak to those impacts you know what is it there what is it that they're asking us but what part of the assessment like for example the way the city law what I understood and I may be wrong which is why we are so happy that we're only talking about an improvement the amount of money spent on an improvement and not all the improvements maybe I think just the restoration of facade or something I'm not exactly clear so the person who would ask that on how that works on the city side would be the City Assessor and if we

are to create in if and if the resolutions asking us to do the same we need to understand what the city's law is on this from the Assessor otherwise you can't do the same we'll just blow we just blow them off too so I'm hearing that you would like to reach back out to sea could we try again well this I can't go through my emails right now I can't hook up the Wi-Fi but does someone have the resolution that they said I just I just attached the resolution I wrote I just - this is what we're talking about there is this value increased over it was a period of ten years you know so there the value would increase over ten years so they would take immediate so this historical a lot of things

historical properties would have a different tax schedule I I don't feel comfortable giving what my interpretation is unless we had someone here in the city that tells because you can interpret it a couple different business coming entirely because the city's initiated this this resolution and they're recommending to us do the same because the council person reached out to the board and asked us to do we passed this resolution was it City passed if the tax assessor doesn't seem minimal dekomia I wouldn't recommend maybe inviting explain this to us in person nobody even though it seems like man reached out to Anthony to kind of get clarity as to what we were asking for and we can wait to hear back the second one is Kelly sent out an email to all of you we want

to start doing a sub review of the board and we can use the security system the same system that we utilize to evaluate the superintendent we could use that for our board of evaluation so we sent out if you forgot your password you could go to the link and that you can do forgot my password and they'll get you that information so you can sign back in I would like to have the board a dog done by November 12 board meeting if possible anybody see any issues with that could you resend that email that Kelly resent it okay you know if you also google super ears out yeah then you go to login yeah and it's going to be BOE wolf at beacon 812 dot word and hit forgot my password thank you guys thank

you so November 12 is it good yes all right my third update is Jennifer Daly from Cold Spring she's the board president down cold spring reached out and she wanted me to answer a couple questions he looked like they're going through strategic planning questions from how they and so she reached out asking really given me four titles and just kind of asking if we've been through it and stuff I before I responded I did call her to try and set up a date to speak but I just wanted to make sure that you guys are okay with me speaking to her about the four questions for their strategic plan they're reaching out to local districts to kind of get more information so the first title and there's some length to it was building projects having

been under under grinding building projects in the last five years yeah we got one last year so I've explained to her that we had one last year and what was the nature and scope of the project and did we anticipate at board a bond referendum the next was environmental issues as your district engage in any discussions about the school that schools impact on the environment if so what are they that we talked about solar business tonight do you feel like this is an important issue in the community yes it's been talking about it the sustainability goal too right yeah and I would explain mister I just want to give you guys an idea of what she's asking it's demographic and enrollment you know she just basically have we seen you know as it is extension

that's five years to anticipate change in the next five years special issues as your district engage in conversation about any special issues that could have significant effect that new school community development would be one of them they're rolling what is it rolling hills that's really that's about it I mean so I I called her to set the time you just want to make sure you guys are okay with me speaking to her about what we've done as the district doesn't have any impact on us book their formation I'd be sharing would be from the district so so you guys are all right as Craig mentioned the district conference is this week starts Thursday midday for the regular seminars to pre law conferences Thursday morning and it goes to that concludes with annual nispom meeting on

Saturday morning I haven't received any emails about anything with resolutions if you have any last-minute thoughts you can email them when I'm up to Rochester it's not so Saturday so you have until Friday all right any questions for me on the business I believe James I know that there's a lot of information and very little information available on that they described in front of the program and then you get a wall where you have to actually the district has to inquire and reach out to people more information but what I really find alluring about our interesting about the k2 solar program is that it's free that is an easy first step it seems like there's a lot of different directions we could go to try and like think about sustainable energy it seems like a

no-risk kind of first to get some some consultation we can take any questions for James on the case holder our discussion pieces I think that a district administrator or representative would have to reach out to get more information whereas a committee member they may not give as much but it needs to be we we need to get direction if we are interested as a board as a you know quorum want to go forth and seek more information from K solar it doesn't really tie us into using that piece but it would just allow us to get more information about it the one thing I always am skeptical of is when they say it's free nothing in the world's free you know so like there has to be some type to it facilities you know more

information facilities because I would want to know when details about the plan and the actual costs or just really the details what's it's a state-run program is that I think because mine this is a few years old it's in this bar across sensual as well there's a statewide managed RFP for smaller vendors who will come in consult districts they've done many districts in New York State already but it is exactly the case that they need to be contacted by district administrators I actually said you know so you certainly something I think and I think what James was trying to do was also like we said let's bring up a new topic right and so then the committee could look into it right we and so that this is the way to bring it up and

then maybe we can ask the measures to get more information than we could share at the facilities yeah committee everybody's okay with that yeah all right sounds good so we're gonna ask the district administrators to reach out get more information and that information would be share the facilities and operations committee meeting uh committee meeting and then that appreciate you bring it up James and then you know getting it on to their do business and it's a good process yes you get to appreciate alright for unfinished business we were talking about our fees it's a joint RFP I think I believe the RFP has deadlines has come there were two are fees that were submitted yes and so I think the next point is is that the process that I was envisioning and I believe that

we would have Emery go up meet with the county to review the RFPs and if we wanted to present any have any questions that we wanted to give the Emery prior to her going up she'll get us a date that she's going up but maybe by Friday we could start sending her questions that we would like based on the responses for the RFP so then she can ask that and you can have specific questions asked of the two responses so then that would help with the process and so forth does that process sound okay yes okay all right except gender you know I just went to get a percentage on it and it pops up though the Patriots are winning 24 nothing over the Jets and I'm a jet fan so I was disheartening to

see the use of the East of the consent of men supportive dozen case make more effective use of its time by adopting a single motion to cover those relatively routine matters which are included any member the board wishes to discuss individually a particular piece of business on the cosenza that May so indicate an item will be considered and voted on separately thus preserving the rights of all board members be heard on any individual any item would like pulled from the consent agenda do any of those have any subsets or is the whole thing okay I just want to make sure that there wasn't any subsets that we could vote on specifically yeah all right so I needed a motion to approve the consent agenda item 13 point oh one through thirteen point eleven thirteen 10-13

uh sorry - uh let me say that again their last ones poll um I need a motion to approve consent items thirteen point or one through thirteen point oh eight second comments or questions all those in favor aye opposed motion carries 7 0 I need a motion for thirteen point one oh two questions comments or questions please in here to them so if you look at for the first page the third one to the fourth power God says Adam you know right turn and family engagement programs activities here's a district individual school must insure must ensure that parents and family members how do we ensure each of these comments are really there are active terms want to be clear about how some are advised or make sure that people are informed of things but how

do we ensure to the right refer to a marina these are on Title one requirements so there there will be building level teams of administration and parents that will that will meet all during the year to discuss activities that they want to have that they'll be encouraged in you know what's going on in their child's education so although it's a James's right it is a requirement of getting title one funds the schools are already beginning to work on having the building level so we're reaching out to parents and trying to get parents involved in their child's academic so my concern is just making sure that we meet the must ensure terminology you can encourage you can inform you can schedule no I understand your question so know that we are reviewed so we recently just

had a review from the title one when we get the funds so the ensuring that they will ensure that we are doing it to make sure that we continue to get the funding so I don't know if that helps a little bit so there is an outside monitoring so we need to provide minutes of the meeting and who attended and what topics they talked about so just Mike I don't know like when our auditors come in and bought it like every three years they do a cycle and the tie is on that three-year cycle typically and what they have to do is they'll take our board policy if they see insured they'll ask for documentation right to support that it has been done if it hasn't been shown that it was done then it would

be a ding in art what it right okay that's what I'm concerned to make sure that we we know how we are ensuring I because I mean right we don't want them to come and tell us make sure we do it and I believed like the internal auditors would look at that first before that external auditors come in anyway so that's a that's a second that's a first layer is that internal and then second layer is the external okay so I second comment and similar it's on page two like two paragraphs downward says the board along with his superintendents of schools and other appropriate district staff will undertake the fog axons to in to ensure parent family members involvement in the development of the district-wide title one plan my development of the title of plan

unity action is conduct one at least one animal meeting to review evaluate parent and family engagement policy so it's like get ensure that they are involved in developing the plan and the action to do that is to review the policy why it just didn't seem like it was a direct a hard time maybe these are the words in the in our regulation but I just didn't see the direct Holly this policy was written for us there's a boilerplate that we have I mean and then we had to put in what we're doing as the district for the district procedures which is the bullet of what we're actually doing and I saw maybe we may want to see if we should be I thinking that in the policy committee meeting we discussed I mean we talked

a little bit about that but in previous meetings we talked about you know what we would be doing as a district in in this particular case we're saying that the board needs to review it so if they review it in policy committee then the administration will have to talk about are we doing all of the things that we're talking about its policy all right so maybe that take a look take a look to see if we need to make anything else and then the last one is on page three similar where it says review of district-wide parent and family engagement policy the board the board along with Superintendent of Schools and other appropriate staff will conduct with involvement of parents and family members in annual evaluation the content of the policy and then it says

the action is organized a yearly meeting with principal and parents to discuss the effectiveness of the policy and make recommendations didn't seem like we were so we that's actually is closer to talk than I thought it was so that's those were just making sure that we have at the wording that we can that we can meet the wording as stated in our policies this was actually I think just some of the cracks because we talked about this in the committee meeting second page in the middle section development of school level parent engagement before the bullet lists we're still missing a verb I think we talked about putting there will facilitate or some similar language will conduct the whole sponsor or something like that it's good catching do you guys want to throw over there facilitate

so so if I make the change put it in bold we could say house is far too easy right pertaining to to provide feedback and then it comes around to secondly doesn't it well we have to both agree to vote on and as amended like we usually put the word facilitate in there and then the second read would be adopted but if we change it it should go back to a first read if we don't say as amended we could say house you guys did go to second he doesn't yeah so I need to move I need a motion to approve 13.1 Oh has amended based on discussion all those in favor opposed motion carries 739 a motion for 13 point so moved second James is joining the dance comments it questions I had two

questions on this one all second or last paragraph on page one this is a lock so we will be stored in the secure but accessible locations consistent with districts emergency response plan do we need to make any changes to emergency response plan missus is enacted to to recognize this I don't believe so but we could bring that up at the district Mark has a plan of where this is going to go because he was instrumental in bringing this puzzling forward to be adopted the uncomment was it talks about mostly about intranasal application and then later you know in school and then later it just refers to into muscular applications and I don't know if we're having if we're going to keep both types or we're both on the premises assuming he was talking about the

as soon as I could spray and then all of a sudden it was like if you're off site you can write I think with the discussion around this policy its policy meeting was that it would still be a nurse right that would be doing it yes it's the nurses may also participate in the program and then pursuing to the patient's specific to read the whole thing it says engineers over or if allowed per training intern intramuscular on school premises or at any school sponsored activities occurring off school grounds of late really right I think it's basically saying that the nurse can use either treatment on school property or off if they're trained on both so if she if the nurses trained on both applications either can be used at school or like I don't cuz

I needed to also run this past the nurse manager as well to see pose motion carries around need a motion for thirteen point nine so moved second Oh James stop dancing that was to encourage you to continue to go sometimes we were involved in some cases we don't there's some other plan that's involved first question is is all this it's actually our section 611 619 which are some federal grants different and how is it determined how much each company is getting paid it's a state rate so we are given the state we were given the rate by the state so six eleven is school age six nineteen is preschool so those are the schools where our children are attending so basically those schools share in the end the amount that we get as a federal

brand but it's all state rated so the contract has to be done but then the rate is set by rate setting in New York's data and questions all those in favor and I'm home I need a motion to adjourn the meeting say join the dance again Thomas the questions all those in favor alright great so know
