[applause] So, congratulations to Isabella and Grayson on this outstanding accomplishment. At this time, we invite them to share their awardwinning essays. So, Grayson, do you have one more picture? One more picture after the pictures. If I had a magic wand,
I would make the world a better place for animals. I would wave my magic wand and make people friendlier to animals so they would stop cutting down trees and forests. That way, animals won't lose their homes. I would also make people stop hunting animals for their skin and fur. I would say abracadabra with my wand and all the trash will disappear. With all the trash gone, the animals won't eat the trash and die. When I wave my magic wand, everyone would understand what animals say. So if a cat got hungry, we would know to feed the cat. [applause] Using my magic wand, I would say Shazam. And many food dispensers will appear in forests. My food dispensers will be smart enough to tell what kind of animal it is so it can give the right
food to it. This is how I would make the world a better place for animals if I had a magic wand. [applause] If I could have a magic wand to save animals, I would use it to save every animal on the planet. My name is Isabella Bryant and I'm in fourth grade. I love animals so much. When I think of people hunting animals, it makes me very sad. But with a sparkly magic wand, I could fix everything with one big poof. First, I would point my wand at the ocean. and say clean and natural. All of the trash would vanish. Dolphins would jump high and coral reefs would have bright colors again. No more choking on plastic bags. Next, I would wave it over the forests and jungles grow and become full of life. The
trees would shoot up so tall, giving homes to tigers, monkeys, and birds. Poachers trying to catch animals would get a surprise. Their nets would turn into bubbles. For endangered animals like rhinos, elephants, and pandas, I would say heal and multiply. Sick animals would feel better in a blink. New babies would appear healthy and strong, and their families would grow big and happy. I would even make special animal hospitals pop up everywhere with special medicine, and the animals would know to go if they need. But the best spell of all would be for humans. With one last wave, I would make everyone love animals like I do. Kids and adults would plant trees, clean rivers, and never litter again. We would all be friends with lions, whales, and even tiny ants. With my magic wand, the
world would be a safe place for animals. No more sadness, just wagging tails and happy chirps. I would wave it every day if I could because animals deserve to be safe and free forever. What a wonderful world that would be. >> [applause] >> Isabella, here you go, sweetheart. Isabella, at this point in the program, it is my pleasure to invite the president of the Elmont Teachers Association, Miss Deborah Buchanan, to present the sixth grade EDA awards. >> [applause] >> What a great night. 028when [applause] Finally, while we celebrate academic and artistic excellence, we also recognize the generosity and compassion that defines our district. Through the leadership of Dutch Broadway physical education teacher, Miss Deborah Bennett, students and staff from across the district have participated in several meaningful fundraising initiatives. It is my pleasure to invite up Miss Bennett to share more about these efforts. [applause] Thanks. >> Good evening. Uh throughout the year, EDA proudly supports a variety of charitable organizations through fundraising efforts across the district. In October, we continued our long-standing tradition of supporting the fight against breast cancer through our annual breast cancer awareness campaign benefiting the American Cancer Society. Schools throughout the district participated in denim days, sold t-shirts, hosted breakfasts, and organized raffles, all with the shared goal of helping fund research, support services, and the search
for a cure. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our staff and school communities, the Elmont Elementary Teachers Association raised $8,55 this year. [applause] At this time, I would like to introduce Carrie Anne Eldora, Reena Duray, Jolene German, and Mary Delahanti from the Claraara Carlson School who will share more information about this meaningful initiative. [applause] Good evening everyone. My name is Jolene German and I am honored to be here this evening alongside an incredible team of women. Mary Delahanti, Kerianne Aldora, and Reena Duray back there who have worked tirelessly to represent Clary H. Carlson School with pride as we carry forward a tradition that means so much to us. For the past 17 years, our school community has united in raising funds to support breast cancer awareness, research, and to help all those whose lives have
been impacted by this disease. This annual effort is more than just a fundraiser for us. It's a tribute to a remarkable educator, colleague, and friend, Lucinda. We called her Zoransson, whose strength, spirit, and legacy continue to inspire us each year. Tonight, we are honored to share the results of this year's fundraising efforts. I am proud to share that Clara H. Carlson School raised $4,01, contributing to our district's total [applause] of $8,55. We have made this donation in Z's memory with the hope that it will support those affected by breast cancer and help advance the search for a cure. To all those who helped make this donation possible, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity because your support helped us honor a cause that is close to all of our hearts. Thank
you. [applause] Okay. Uh, as February approached, our schools once again came together to support an important cause through our annual Go Red for Women campaign. Staff members participated in a variety of fundraising activities, demonstrating their commitment to raising awareness about heart health and supporting lifesaving research. I am proud to share that through these collective efforts, the Elmont Elementary Teachers Association raised $5,750 for the American Heart Association. We are grateful for the generosity of everyone who contributed to this worthwhile cause and helped make a positive impact in the fight against heart disease. Edida would like to thank Mr. Small, Central and Building Administration and our board of ed for continuously supporting our fundraising efforts. [applause] Like Miss Demitus mentioned, I am the fizzad teacher here at Dutch Broadway. So now I'm going to put that hat
on. On Thursday, May 21st, Dutch Broadway School proudly hosted our 13th annual Building Homes for Heroes Walkathon and Memorial Day event. On this special day, our students, staff, and faculty came together to walk and run in honor of the brave men and women who were wounded while serving our country and protecting our freedom. We also took time to recognize and thank the first responders who proudly wear their uniforms each day and put themselves in harm's way to keep our community safe. Building Homes for Heroes is an organization dedicated to renovating, modifying, building, and gifting mortgage-free homes to injured veterans and their families. Our students had the privilege of hearing firsthand from Building Homes for Heroes recipients, United States Marine Corporals Matthew Benny and Kevin Vaughn, and United States Army Specialist Hugo Gonzalez, and members of
our local American Legion Post 1033. We were also honored to welcome their family members of our students and staff who served in the military or as first responders. Throughout the year, our school community supported this cause in many ways. Students and their families made donations. Staff members participated in denim days known as military Mondays. Building Homes for Heroes t-shirts were sold and raffle baskets helped raise additional funds. Our fifth grade students also participated in the New York Islanders Cultural Inspirations Sticker Program, generously donating proceeds from sticker sales to the organization. In addition, we were fortunate to receive support from several organizations such as the Belmore VFW Post 2770 who are inspired by the life-changing work of building homes for heroes. I organize this event each year alongside my fifth grade colleague Melissa O'Brien, my fizzad
partner Tim Smith, and my daughter Katie. On behalf of all of us and our entire Dutch Broadway family, we are proud and grateful to announce that our school raised $14,226 [applause] this year, bringing our remarkable 13-year fundraising total to $154,72. Thank you to everyone who has supported this mission over the years. Your generosity continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our nation's heroes. And I have one of those fake checks. So, can can you come up? I'm here by myself. Oh, Katie's here. Good. Can someone stand with me? Because if I had to stand by myself, you don't want to come. I where they are. >> Hurry up. Run. >> Thank you very much. [applause] Congratulations to all of our students. Let's give them another round of applause. [applause] Congratulations to our
amazing EDA. Let's give them a round of applause for all of their fundraising efforts. And it is now my honor to recognize our employees who are going into their next chapter. Thank you for smiling every day and brightening the lives of our children. We

[applause] Thank you. Thank you, Mrs. Turk. Come on down. We thank you. We will miss those voices. Let's give her another round of applause as she walks down. [applause] Like to recognize Miss Laura Lang after 28 years of service with the Dutch Broadway School, inspiring our students to read and read and read. Thank you. Together, our teachers represent 86 years of service to the Elmont School District. Let's give them a round of applause. [applause] To recognize our administrators, I'd like to first call Miss Ali Gun, principal of Covert Avenue School, to recognize Miss Valerie Donnu, assistant principal of Covert Avenue School after 31
years of service. [applause] [cheering] One minute. Oh, okay. Good evening, everyone. After an an incredible 30 plus years of service to the Elmont School District, we proudly honor and celebrate Mrs. Donahue as she begins her well-earned retirement. Her impact on this district reaches far beyond any single title, building, or generation of students. Throughout her remarkable career, she has helped shape the fabric of our school community through her leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to children. Throughout the years, Mrs. Donny, who has worked in nearly every school in this district, building strong relationships, supporting students and staff, and becoming a source of unmatched knowledge and experience. Her wisdom, honesty, and deep understanding of the Elmont community are things that simply cannot be replaced. She has helped guide schools through change, growth, challenges, and successes. always doing what
she has believed is the best for children. At the same time, she has earned the utmost respect from colleagues, families, and students alike, and she is never afraid to tell it like it is, and her non-nonsense attitude, strong convictions, and belief in high expectations made her not only respected, but deeply trusted. She believes wholeheartedly in the power of educators and in helping students grow into respectful, responsible, and successful young people. Mrs. Mrs. Danghue, your legacy will live on in the countless students you've impacted, the educators you've mentored, and the standards you've upheld throughout your career. So, while you may be retiring from your role, the influence you have had on this district will continue for many, many years. So, we wish you happiness, relaxation, and all the very best in this exciting next chapter. I
love you. [applause] Another [applause] round of applause for Miss Valerie Donnu, affectionately known as Val. >> [applause] >> At this time, I'd like to invite up Mr. Richard Mansfield as well as Miss Claudine Hall to honor our very own Mrs. Stacy Alexander Wthall, principal of Clara H. Carlson School after 27 years of service to the Elmont School District. [applause] >> [applause] >> Good evening everyone and to those who invited me to speak on behalf of my colleague and friend I thank you for this honor. Tonight I have the pleasure of recognizing a special kind of educator, leader, mentor and friend that she is begins a well ser well-earned next chapter after more than three decades of service to children and families. Mrs. Mrs. Wall's journey began back in 1994 in East Harlem. She taught sixth
grade students just enough time to build a foundation that brought it here to Elman right here in fact in Dutch Broadway. She also served at Covert Avenue and at the Clare H Carlson School where she served as classroom teacher, assistant to the principal, assistant principal, and eventually principal in 2016. And that's when I came to Clara Carlson to serve as her assistant principal. To Mrs. Warfall. Her role as principal was never simply a profession or title. It was a calling. Countless times she would mention allow it to her staff that she had the greatest job in the world. She understood that every child who walked through those school doors deserved someone who believed in them, who challenged them, cared deeply about their success. This was a mantra instilled in her by her mentor, Mr. Rosner.
And throughout my nine years with her, I've been amazed at her advocacy for children in this community. She also has an incredible memory. She can remember not only the names of just about every one of our 800 students each and every year, but their siblings, their family members, and all of their unique qualities. She's always connecting with families on the phone long into the night just because she cares very much. Retirement marks an end of a chapter, but it also does not diminish the impact that she leaves behind. The values that she advocates for, kindness, perseverance, excellence, are all displayed in the interior steps of our school, a constant reminder of what Mrs. Wal championed herself and what we will continue to aspire to for years to come. Mrs. Wal, I thank you for your
dedication, your leadership, and your heart. Thank you for the countless hours, the difficult decisions, the celebrations, the quiet moments when you put the needs of our students first. Our community is stronger because of your service. And generations of students are better because of this commitment. To Mr. Wall, to Casey and Kaden who are here today, raise your hand, guys. That's right. [applause] To you I say on behalf of a grateful Clara H. Carl Car Carlson community we are internally thankful for sharing your mom all of these years with us. [snorts] >> And once again Miss Waffle on behalf of everyone whose life you have touched. Congratulations on this incredible career. We wish you nothing but happiness, health, and wonderful adventures. But in the words that you say to your students every single day, [applause] you
are amazing. You are important. You are awesome. You are intelligent. You have a future. You have served your purpose. And you will always be needed. And you'll always be loved. Hey, thanks. [applause] >> [applause] [applause] >> Good evening. My name is Claudine Hall and I am the proud president of the Jamaica Square Civic Association located in the southeast part of Elmont. I met this beautiful young lady approximately 25 or so years ago as Miss Alexander. We were on a cruise and I looked at her and I said, "You look so familiar. Where do I know you from? Are you from Elmont?" and she says, "I'm an educator in Elmont." And from that time on, we've been great friends. And she has been a strong supporter of the Jamaica Square Civic Association. As Mr. Mansfield said,
she was mentored by Mr. Rosnner, and Mr. Rosna supported every one of our civic meetings. And you also said that she she has a great memory. I love Miss Wfall, but as I walk through the community of the Jamaica Square area, I realize that I'm not alone. There are a lot of people who love Miss Wallfall. So, I'm going to read this plaque that we have for her on behalf of the Jamaica Square Civic Association. But as I'm reading this plaque, I want all those who I invited to now come up and let's test Miss Wallfall's memory. Come on. We got people all the way from Florida coming up. East Medal, Elmont, they're all coming. Presented to Mrs. Stacia Wallfall. We honor and thank you for your dedication and service to the scholars of the
Elmont community and especially those scholars from the Jamaica Square Improvement League. For your devotion and hard work, you deserve the best retirement ever. Enjoy this new journey of your life. Cherish every moment and have fun. Claudine E. Paul, civic president, presented on this day, June 9th, 2026. [applause] These are all the students from the Jamaica Square area. All Clara H. Carlson students. Miss Walford was either their assistant principal or their principal. Kamora and Grace designed this flyer that went out to the community. Kamora unfortunately cannot be here. Grace is here. They're both college Howard University graduates. Kamora is away in Austria now studying abroad for four weeks and she's so upset that she could not be here tonight. But this is for you as well because Grace and Kamura designed this flyer for the community.
And Miss Wal, we love you. Thank you so much. [applause] [applause] Wow. I I'm not going to name everyone because that I can't do. I have a good memory, but I did want to take a moment to say something. Um, as I was thinking about what I wanted to say, I realized that I'm surrounded by reminders that made this work so meaningful. This limited edition t-shirt that I'm wearing was designed by Travis Grayson, my former Dutch Broadway student, class of 2000, and he is now the CEO of his clothing company, Millie Merch. The nails that I'm wearing were done by Mia Kernazan, also known as Mia Jana Artistry, former Carlson student who is now a value member of our district teacher age staff, affectionately known as Miss K and a talented entrepreneur whose nail artistry
is beyond spectacular. This past weekend, I was invited to attend Elmont's 20th year high school reunion and had the opportunity to reconnect with many students. As I look at my shirt I purchased there, the nails I have carefully applied, I thought about the countless students I have had the privilege to know over the years. I was reminded that the children that walk through our doors each day are full of unlimited potential, all coming to us from different experiences that help shape who they are. Along with Travis and Mia, I have had the opportunity to witness the greatness in so many of Elmont's children. Some have their own businesses. They're educators, health care professionals, public servants, and community leaders. Their success is a reminder that we as administrators and educators, our jobs matter. When people ask
what I am most proud of after 32 years in education, it's not a program, it's not a title, or a building. It is my students. It's watching children grow into adults and contribute to the world in so many meaningful ways. First and foremost, I'd like to thank God for his grace and guidance through this journey. I have been blessed with a career filled with purpose, meaningful relationships and opportunities to make a difference in the lives of children. Tonight, I'd also like to thank my family for their love and support. and to my children, Casey and Kaden. Thank you for listening to my school stories over the years and for sharing me with the students and families I've served. Thank you to the board of education, district admin, my colleagues, community members, parents, former district admin,
and many staff members I have the privilege of working alongside throughout my career here and in East Harlem. And finally, my deepest thanks to the thousands of students I have had the opportunity to teach, support, and learn from over the years. You have brought me joy and purpose and meaning to my career, and you will always hold a special place in my heart. And as Miss Buchanan said earlier, I am proud to say I knew you when. In the words of Marshall Montano, we work so hard I deserve a party. [applause] Congratulations, Mrs. Wallfall. Let's give her another round of applause. >> [applause] [applause] >> Thank you. >> Mrs. Wolf here. As we celebrate those who have completed their remarkable careers and are embarking on a well-deserved new chapter, we now turn our attention to
a different milestone. It is now my pleasure to call our principles to recognize the dedicated professionals being recommended for tenure this evening. They have demonstrated excellence, perseverance, and a steadfast commitment to the students and families of our Elmont community. At this time, I would like to call on the acting principal of Alden Terrace School to recognize the teachers from Alden Terrace recommended for tenure. [applause] Good evening. My name is Sonia Rodrigo and I am the proud acting principal of Alden Terrace. It is my honor to speak this evening in support of the tenure recommendation for Mrs. Kelly Murray, formerly Mrs. Kelly Connor, a special education teacher in our ABA program. Although this is my first year working alongside Kelly, it did not take long to recognize the exceptional educator she is. Throughout this year, I
have witnessed her determination, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to her students. She's an advocate who consistently puts students first, ensuring that each child receives the support, opportunities, and individualized instruction needed to succeed. Every time I visit her classroom, I'm impressed by how thoughtful and well-prepared she is. Her lessons are purposeful, engaging, and carefully designed to meet the unique needs of her students while fostering independence and confidence. What has been especially meaningful to me is what I have observed is strongly echoed by the voices of her ABA team, which I know many of you are here this evening. Across their reflections, a clear picture emerges of the educator who is of an educator who is both highly skilled and deeply committed to her students. They describe Kelly as compassionate, knowledgeable, organized, creative, flexible, and unwaveringly dedicated to
her work. They speak to her ability to meet challenges with calm and professionalism, and her consistent focus on meeting theual individual needs of her learners. In their words, she creates a classroom environment rooted in acceptance, joy, and high expectations where students are supported to grow in both independence and confidence. Her impact is felt far beyond instruction of the classroom. Whether she is leading student council, participating in ABA Olympic events with her trademark competitive spirit, or offering a quick liner to bring laughter on a difficult day, Kelly brings positivity and heart to everything she does. From designing materials and logos for the Tiger Cafe to bring a creative projects to life, her cr contributions enriched the culture of the entire school community. One reflection offered a particularly unique perspective. As both Kelly's mother and colleague, Mrs.
Lisa Connor, she has had the opportunity to observe her growth as an educator while also witnessing her impact within the school community. She described Kelly as someone who leads with kindness, builds strong relationships, and brings both dedication and heart to everything she does. Today, the same passion continues to guide her work and positively impact the lives of students, families, and colleagues. On behalf of the Alden community, it is with great pride that I congratulate Mrs. Kelly Murray on a well-deserved achievement. We are grateful for her dedication, proud of all that she has accomplished, and excited for the many contributions she will continue to make in the years ahead. Congratulations, Kelly. [applause] Now, I'd like to call up my colleagues from Clara H. Carlson, Principal Walaw, Assistant Principal Manfield, and Miss Marachi. Tonight we celebrate more

[applause] [cheering] Our Clara H. Carlson stars, just line up right there on that green line right there. >> [applause] >> For this special occasion, I ask each tenure candidates family member to select an artifact that captures the essence of who they are. I present to you Clar Carlson's eight tenure candidates. >> [applause] >> Meet Miss Stephanie Balsamo, kindergarten teacher. Stephanie's mom selected these photos of her as a competitive dancer. These pictures capture a young Stephanie doing something she loved. They represent her dedication, perseverance, and willingness to challenge herself. 058years old. For 20 years, this artwork has hung framed in their kitchen. Looking at it today, it is easy to see why. Even as a child, Carara's creativity, her attention to detail, and desire to do her very best was evident in every stroke. Her family shared that many of these qualities were inspired by her grandmother, who was a teacher and an artist. Looking at this painting today, it seems that Carara inherited both of the best of both worlds. a love for creativity and a passion for teaching. Carara, you pour your heart into creating meaningful experiences for your students. You don't just teach them, you invite them into your world. Whether bringing your grandfather to celebrate Veterans Day, you help your children see the importance of family, community, and connection. Just as your mother recognized something
special in this painting and wanted to display it proudly, we are grateful for the gifts you share with the children and families of CHC every day. I present you with this pumpkin painting as a reminder of the qualities that made you shine as a child continue to inspire your students, colleagues, and your community today. >> She's trying to get rid of it. [applause] >> [laughter] >> Meet Kayla Tarney. [applause and cheering] Kayla's mom selected this collage of photographs documenting her journey from Clara H. Carlson student to Clara H. Carlson teacher. >> [applause] >> This collage tells a remarkable story. It captures a young girl growing up in Elmont learning in the very same Clara H. Her sister shared that one of her favorite memories was her dad placing them on top of his Bronco when they were little. Her mom shared that this memory reflects the way Jackie has always seen the world with curiosity, optimism, and a belief that anything is possible. 094I. >> Motion carries. >> Item 8.5 is noted for the minutes. >> So noted for the minutes. >> And Madame President, this concludes my report. Thank you. >> Thank you, sir. Do we have any committee reports orformational items? Any old business? >> Any new business? >> You have old business. >> Okay. >> Please state your name for the record. We ask that you limit your comments to three minutes. And >> this is this is not open comment. Isn't this old business? >> But you still have to state your name for the record. >> Yeah, I can state my name, but you mentioned the time >> and and there is still a time limit. Yes, >> that's news to me. >> Okay. Um, Mrs. Crick, um, in a previous meeting, I had asked about a policy
for asking the board to require the district to disclose to parents in real time the benchmark information that students get. As I mentioned, about three times a year, they the students are essentially assessed. They get a grade. we don't get that grade uh essentially unless we ask for it. And so I was asked to go and check the website and that does not exist. So I'm still asking for the board to basically create a policy so that it can be done consistently and that parents can in real time get these. They are grades and we should get every grade that our students get. They may not count towards the report card, but they are grades and we should get that information back in real time so that we can adjust with our students accordingly for
their academic needs. So, I just wanted it on the record that I am still requesting that policy as it does not exist on the website currently. >> Thank you, Miss Craig. Is there anyone else has any other old business? Okay. As a point of personal privilege, as your president, I am going to forego public comments tonight. We had a great meeting and we've been here very long. I want to again congratulate all of our staff uh both the tenurs and the retirees. And also I want to um remind you all of our reorg meeting that will take place on Wednesday, July 1st at 8:00 PM at Elmont Road. May I have a motion to adjourn the public meeting and reconvene in executive session for a personnel matter? >> Thank you, Mr. Palmer. May I have
a second? You >> You walked away from the microphone. You're finished. >> No, we're done. Thank you.
