Um let's uh do I have a motion to approve the agenda as presented minus the pledge of allegiance. So move >> second. >> All right. All in favor? >> I. >> Motion is passed. All in favor? >> I I >> motion is passed. And moving on to board reports and
go to the order. Wendy, would you like to start for us? >> Sure. So, um, obviously, um, there's a lot of sporting activities going on. Um, I got to attend the wrestling uh tourney last night. So, it was a good turnout and congratulations to um the uh boys and girls wrestling team. Um, also I wanted to kind of mention too some upcoming events. Um, there's the um show on February 7th, Freaky Friday. So, if you haven't got your tickets, I think tickets have went on sale this week. Um, so if you have any questions about that, um, you can reach out to uh the Fairborn Music Club. you can call the high school um and you can get your tickets online. Um also on March the 7th um Dearborn High School will actually host their
first MEEPA competition. So Meepa competition is a um indoor drum line um and color guard competition. There should be about 54 schools in attendance that day. So, it's going to be a good turnout and um we're going to hope it'll be a uh a great fundraiser for the uh Fairborn Music Club and for the um performing arts. Um also the same exact day on March the 7th will be a fish fry. So, SAC will hold their fish fry at the moose I think in Fairborn on Kaufman Avenue. So, I think tickets are going on sale for that if they um or they should be going on sale if they haven't already. So, um, look out for that and hopefully you guys can, uh, join us at all those events. Thank you, Tim. >> I'm going
to pass because she's done a great job tonight. That's that covered the waterfront, but there have been a lot of events here throughout the sense we've been back together and it's I think school year's got off to a very good start this calendar year. >> And John, >> no, thank you. >> All right. No, thank you. Not yet. He's not ready yet. Um, well, I'll uh take a moment just to welcome everyone this evening. Um, this is a larger crowd than we've had in quite some time and I am thrilled to see all of your faces. When I see all of you here, that means that there's a lot we're celebrating and um, couldn't I couldn't be more proud to to have you all in attendance. Just so you know, as soon as we are
through the presentations in which you are honored, please feel free to skaddle out the door. So, there's no need to stick around unless you really want to learn about the intricacies of how board meetings work. But um we don't want to keep you. We know you have busy lives. You're obviously here because you're doing a lot of stuff. So um if you have practice or homework or whatever you need to get back to, please feel free to make make your way out the door. We won't take it personally. So um and with that, let's move on to recognition of visitors. Do we have anyone for public comment tonight, Mr. Pho? >> No, we don't, Madam President. >> All right, then. Amy, I'll turn it over to you for school district presentations. >> Thank you. Good
evening and welcome. We have a lot of exciting presentations tonight. So without hesitation, I will begin. First, I would like to welcome Mr. Mark uh Stickford and Mrs. Lori Elliott who are going to present on the eighth grade Washington DC trip. Uh they were not able to present last week or last month. So you have approved that trip, but they wanted to share with you some of the details of the trip. interjective. >> Do you want to stand on the same side? >> Okay. Uh well, good evening everybody. Uh my name is Mark Stickford. I am a seventh grade social studies teacher at Fairborn Middle School. Uh thank you for having us this evening. And everybody, thank you for coming out. Uh behind me, >> Lori Elliott. I'm the speech language pathologist at the middle
school and co-chair of the DC trip this year with Mark. >> Yeah. So, uh, we're just going to talk about the, uh, 8th grade DC trip for this year, get into some details, and then any questions anybody has, we'll take as well. Uh, go ahead. Thank you, Mrs. Reynolds. All right. So, uh, this is for the current eighth graders, the class of 2030. Uh, we are leaving, departing Fairborn Middle School at about 5:30 in the morning, bright and early. Uh and then we will return late Friday, May 15th. Um and then as we've already introduced ourselves, we are the two adviserss for the trip and we are using the tour company World Strides. Slide please. Um overall 8th grade DC trip, it's become a cultural thing uh in the United States for eighth grade classes
to head over to our nation's capital. Uh and it matches up with the eighth grade curriculum. uh perfectly uh as everything that they're teaching throughout the school year uh gets to lead up to that point. Just raise your hand if you've been on your school's eighth grade DC trip. Okay, maybe maybe it's catching on. Maybe I'm just trying to set a trend here. I guess we'll see. Uh but I got to go on mine. Um and your both of your sons got to go on this trip, right? Um would you like to speak into that at all? >> Yeah. Um, yeah, my kids are they're freshman and 11th grader here at the high school. But, um, I was lucky enough to be able to chaperon when they went on the trip. Um, and they still
talk about it to this day. It is a very, um, walking intensive. It's not a leisurely vacation trip. Um, but they still talk about the things that they saw and things. So, it is a very cool opportunity that we're able to offer our eighth graders. >> Uh, and we've both had the opportunity to go on the trip when it was uh, Mrs. Tai and Mrs. Gear leading it. um multiple times. You got to go with both of your sons, correct? And then um I've gotten to go twice as well. Um so seventh year. Yeah. Excellent. All right. Um so overall, the cost to the students uh for this past year's trip was $1,397. Uh and the tour company also offers a trip insurance for cancellation for any reason where you get your trip money refunded
uh minus the cost of the insurance. Uh, and this this price includes hotel and transportation. Um, we have about 80 students going, which I'll get into on the next slide, but um, overall we get to take two uh, charter buses over there. Um, and they take us around the capital. Uh, we walk quite a bit, but there's also instances where we're uh, having to drive depending on where we're going. Um, and that price also includes food uh, and meals. Uh it does not include food on the way there and on the way home. Uh but everything else is included. Uh entrance to multiple museums and exhibits in the tour package that we've uh that we've signed up for this year and looking into for the current seventh graders. Um uh includes all sorts of opportunities
and options for the Smithsonians Holocaust Museum uh and a lot of other really important again just historically significant buildings. Um, so yeah, >> and the memorials as well, which are uh free of charge thankfully, but um yeah, and then um we've kind of hit the ground fundraising uh quite a bit both for our eighth graders as the cost of the trip has gone up uh in the past three or four years, but we've also already began fundraising with our current seventh graders. Uh we've done one over the fall into just wrapping up. The last order was sent out. uh popcorn and pretzels. Uh and I just like to speak into this a little bit. Um the fundraiser we use, it's called Pop D Pop Daddy Snacks. It's through Elevated Fundraising. Uh and this child sold
over $1,200 of popcorn and pretzels. Uh which again is phenomenal. And they get half of that from this fundraiser. So they've paid for just under half of their trip. Um, and then continuing on with that, we're looking for another fundraising opportunity for our current seventh graders in the spring. And then in eighth grade, the current eighth graders who were going on the trip sold cookie dough. Uh, the margin wasn't as good as far as the percentage they get from their sales, but it still helped a lot of kids kind of take some of the financial burden off of them and their parents. But we're um trying to get fundraising going earlier so students could at least pay for half of their trip. solely through fundraising. Uh we've also been experimenting this uh semester with the
current eighth graders. We're selling concessions at the seventh and eighth grade girls and boys middle school basketball games uh that are home at Fairborn Middle School. Uh and that's going really well so far. We have a few more games uh to wrap up the season. Uh but again, uh some individual students who work the concessions, they get a portion of the end of the year or excuse me, end of the season sales. Uh, and right now the numbers are looking pretty good on that. I've I've been tracking those. Uh, it's going to be some help right before all of the money is due at the end of February. So, it's going to be one last push. Um, and did do you want to add anything to that? >> And so, we're hoping that with the
um the great response to it being during basketball, we might open up during volleyball in the fall as well for the eighth graders. So, we have some other options too for them. >> Uh, and then currently our staff that are going are Brad Holt, he's our administrator uh for the trip. Lori. Uh, and then another social studies teacher, um, Dom Simeone. I was originally going, uh, but my wife and I are having a baby in May. Um, and like the day we're supposed to come back May 16th. Uh, and so I'd like to be home for that. Uh, but I do plan on going the next year. So, um, and then currently we have a total of 81 students. Um, all of these chaperones uh that are listed up there are included. Um, as far
as they don't have to pay anything to go. Um, basically for every 15 kids we have, we get to send uh one chaperon for free. So, there it is. Um, and I believe that's all. All righty. >> Thank you so much for sharing. Thank you. >> Thank you very much. Thank you everybody. >> And congratulations to you and your wife here. We look forward to pictures. Thank you, Mrs. Elliot and Mr. Stickford. We appreciate it. And next, I am going to bring our Fairborn High School girls soccer coach, Marty Malad, up who is going to recognize the achievements of a very outstanding player this season. Testing one, two. >> All right. Well, um, really excited to call Kate Aling down here. Come on down here, Kate, and get your award. So, uh, the Greater, uh,
Miami Valley Coaches Association, we nominated Kate for first team. She got first team in that. And she got enough votes in that to make the All State team. And we recently found out that she got enough votes for the All State team to make the all region team. All region is the best of Ohio, Indiana, and Minnesota. I know it's strange, right? Not all not all states play girls soccer at the same time, right? And so I guess Indiana plays in the spring or something, right? So anyway, uh Kate here, she had 19 goals this season and 19 assists um her freshman year. So she's a sophomore this year. Freshman year, she had 21 goals uh and only like four assists. So, uh, she would have been hands down the top offensive player in the
Miami Valley League if they valued assists as much as goals, which I do personally. I personally value assists more than goals. Sometimes the the setup of the goal is a lot more impressive and a more difficult technical move than the goal itself. You know, if you set someone up and they just, you know, poke it in, right? So Kate did a lot to set up her team this year and um we got a really good thing going here at Fairborn High School. Some of her teammates have come to cheer her on. They're up there. Wave. That's uh Lauren Mcrenolds. Love Northcut. Um the whole team's been working really hard around her. We keep improving. We're just so excited that she got this recognition. I feel like it's a team, you know, it's a team sport,
right? And you never have really uh high achieving individuals in a team sport unless the team itself is good. So anyways, Kate, thank you very much. Superintendent has your award here. Congratulations. That's all I do. I got to give a mic back. >> I will just add I I want for everyone to realize the prestige level of this award. Um being a longtime in the district. Yeah, Kate, come back up. We we haven't finished embarrassing you yet. We have to take picture. Um I've been in the the district almost three decades and I cannot recall a player that has received or have been this decorated with awards. So Kate, we're so proud of you. Thank you for bringing this recognition to Fairborn and congratulations on the personal achievement. Next, I would like to um welcome
Pam Gayart to the front, who is going to uh recognize our past and honor our future. Good evening. As the Fairborn City School District continues to progress with new academic buildings and athletic facilities, it's important that we remember how we arrived where we are today. The impact this individual has had in our community is not felt through recognition, but through action, quietly stepping up, believing in us, and leaving things better than he found them. This individual is a transformative leader who unites volunteers and funders around a shared commitment to lasting change. He also has a really firm, strong handshake. He believes in the strength of community and the responsibility to give back and make a difference and he has empowered and encouraged others to do the same. But first, we want to welcome community members.
I'm going to shake if I don't have this. Who helped construct the press box at Memorial Stadium who are with us tonight. Tom Kersh, if you could come forward. Tom Scooza, Chris Gayart, Kurt Gayart, Jimmy Yuri, Tommy Yuri, Scott Clevenger, Ernie Moore, Phil Martin, Terry Mittton, Mark Heasley, Mike Fannon, and Mike Wilford. Additionally, Rex Aerman and Jean Gonzalez have passed, but they were instrumental in um helping with the press box as well. Um we want to extend our help heartfelt thanks to all these volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to help. When our schools needed help the most, these individuals selflessly gave their time, energy, and talents to elevate our facilities to their highest standard. Tonight, we have the privilege of honoring an individual whose impact on Fairborn athletics cannot be measured simply by wins,
losses, or years of service, but by a lifetime of commitment, generosity, and pride in the Fairborn community. Jack Gayart is a name that has been synonymous with Fairborn City Schools excellence for decades. A native of Hazard, Kentucky, he moved to Fairborn in 1942 and graduated from Fairborn High School in 1958. As a student athlete at Fairborn High School, Jack set a standard that remains unmatched. He earned 11 varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. And as a senior, he received the Scholar Athlete Award, recognizing the graduating athlete with the highest GPA. On the field, he was first team all league, honorable mentioned all Ohio, and a national prep all-American in football. To this day, Jack remains the only athlete in school history selected to compete in both the East West State All-Star Baseball Game and
the North South State All-Star football game. Jack carried that excellence with him to Miami University where he played quarterback on a full football scholarship, earned three varsity letters, and served as co- captain his senior year while also pitching for the Miami baseball team. From 1962 to '68, he was on the faculty of Fairborn High School. This is kind of funny actually. As an industrial arts and driver's ed teacher, an assistant coach in football, basketball, and track, and he served as the head basketball coach from 1964 to 68. His 6667 team compiled a record of 17 wins and two losses and won the Western Ohio League championship. Sorry. He served as an assistant coach and scout for the University of Dayton football team for two years and he was a member of the Ohio Basketball and
Football Coaches Association. He was also a member of the Fairborn Board of Education from 1976 to 84 and served as president and vice president helping to develop dialogue between the business community and the schools. He had a career in real estate and property management as president and owner of J.R. Remick of which his sons Chris and Kirk manage today. He has been married to his wife Judy for 62 incredible years. Together they are a truly remarkable couple whose friendship, love, and unwavering support continue to inspire our family and the community alike. But perhaps what makes Jack's true story truly inspiring is what comes next. The work that truly matters isn't done for praise or recognition. It's done because it's right and because it leaves things better than we found them. Because he cared enough to
act, positive change became possible and we are better for it. When his time on the sidelines ended, his service to Fairborn athletics was only beginning. Over the years, Jack has contributed over $300,000 to Fairborn High School athletics. Much of that support came through the annual Whitey Lynn Open, a golf outing held in honor of his stepfather, Dale Whitey Lynn, a man remembered as the biggest booster Fairborn Athletics has ever known. The Whitey Lynn Press Box stood strong as a symbol of his legacy. A tribute not only to Whitey Lynn's passion for athletics, but also to Jack Gayhart's unwavering belief in giving back to the place that shaped him and to help shape the future for Fairborn athletics. Through Jack's leadership and generosity, Fairborn has benefited from the Memorial Stadium press box, the soccer complex, archways,
baseball dugouts, basketball training equipment, and improvements to football facilities, projects that will serve students and athletes for generations to come. Jack and Judy have three children. Chris Fairborn Baker, class of 82. Kirk, Fairborn High School, class of 84. and Carrie Fairborn High School class of 87. Tonight, we honor a man who exemplifies what it means to be a Skyhawk on the field, in the classroom, and in the community through his dedication to our school community. Please join me in congratulating and thanking Jack Gayhart and his team of volunteers for a lifetime of service, leadership, and dedication to Fairborn Schools. So, we have a few things um as we this will be displayed in the in the new press box. And I want to thank Jerry Browning, a former board of education member and Pete Dyinger
who took these beautiful pictures. Um and I want to thank Jane Vanthe Tra who went to school with Jack and she did all of the artwork in the old press box. We have pictures of that as well. Um, as this plaque and photo collage hang Whoops. in the new press box, let them remind us of the love, dedication, and spirit that you and Whitey shared. And let that spirit continue to inspire every athlete, coach, and fan who walks through our doors. Go Skyhawks. Thank you, Jack and Judy. Jack, you want you want the microphone or not? >> No. Get >> in there. out here. Thank you. Hey, no hugging the participants. Thank you, Pam. Next, I will invite Sarah Folton who are going who is going to recognize some students who did outstanding work on
the noetic math contest. >> Hi, thank you families for coming for the special recognition. I'm going to invite one of my math teachers to come help. uh that uh was integral in making sure that the students were prepared for these contests. The Noetic Math Contest was held this fall 2025 and I'm excited to announce that a total of 33,223 students from school teams across the nation participated in this knowetic math contest. The goal of the competition is to encourage students interest in mathematics, develop their problem solving skills, and inspire them to excel in STEM fields. The fall 2025 competition was especially competitive with students from 619 schools nationwide and the following achievements reflect not only our students strong mathematical abilities but also their commitment, perseverance and passion for learning. We are incredibly proud of their
accomplishments and dedication to learning. Only the top performers are honorable mention award winners. And the top 10% of all of these students who competed across the nation are awarded with a national honor roll award. This year we had one distinguished honor role winner. We extend our congratulations to all the students who participated in the contest for their enthusiasm and passion for math and problem solving. This is a rigorous test and we commend all students for their effort, perseverance, and hard work. Now for the awards. Each group will have a team or a tie for team winners and all of the honorable mention award winners will also be honored. We're going to start with Miss Grant's team and our national honor role team winner recipient Dominic Paly. Dominic receives a team winner medal and also the
prestigious national honor roll medal for being in the top 10% of students in this rigorous competition. Also from Miss Grant's team is Colton Smith, a National Honorable Mention Award winner. Miss Grant had another team and our team winner and national honorable mention award winners tied. So, we actually have two team winner medals for this group. So, our tying scores with uh honorable mention and uh team winner medals are Sheamus Daly and James Fowler. line up here. Our next team of winners, our friend, Mrs. Atkins, seventh grade team. Our team winner was Jo Joseph Kardowski. Congratulations. This team also had two honorable mention award winners, Evan Miller and Carson Begley. congratulations, Evan. Our next team is Mr. Taylor's seventh grade team. We had one honorable mention award winner who is also the team winner, Nikolai Short.

Our final team was also an eighth grade team and we had two team winners with a tying score. Remy de Alo Alioso, sorry, and Thomas Kipper. Great job winners. If you guys can go over there to the corner and get a quick picture with the board members. Woo! Mathletes. Fantast. Great job. Thank you guys. Fantastic. >> We'll give them just a minute. >> Yes. 038want to take a moment to really shine a light on our school board members who they are elected leaders who champion one of the most important things in our community and that's the education of our children. It brings warmth on difficult days and comfort when the work feels heavy. You have helped shield us from the cold winds of challenge while giving us the space to grow and learn.
