No, please. Miss Jackson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Yes. >> Mr. Griggsby. Yes, >> Mrs. McCarthy. Yes, Mr. Baka. >> Yes. >> All right. The superintendent. >>
Okay. So, before uh we move on to Mrs. Penzone, I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy and healthy holiday. Uh we will be on break as of well depends on what building, but in this building 2:45 on Friday. Uh 2:50 on Friday and think >> 3:45 >> 350. Um, so I do wish all of you again time with your family and loved ones and truly an opportunity to take a time to reflect on all the amazing work that our kids have done this year, our staff continues to be with our kids and just a natural progression into honoring some of those pretty amazing kids and staff today. But Mrs. Let's start with ETLC. Hello everyone. Good evening. Um, here I have our preschool student of the month and
her name is Eleanor Aker and you're in Miss Jane's room. And Eleanor has been doing such a good job at school. Um, she's ready to learn every day with a smile. And she's so excited to play with her friends and to learn. Um, do you like all the circle pen songs and activities? Yep. and you follow all the class rules and you do your best work all the time. She's a joy to have in class and her teacher, Miss Jane, is so happy to have her in her class. So, thank you, Eleanor. our departure, our kindergarten student of the month. We have um little Brinley over here today, Kabach. And her teacher is Miss Morris. And she does a great job in school as well. She's very motivated to work hard. She likes to work
hard. And she has um her best effort always going into her assignments. She participates and raises her hand and she really helps the whole class. She does not hesitate to help. You help everyone, right? You don't even hesitate. Um, she's a great role model and she shows respect. She's responsible and has great empathy towards others. Great job, everybody. Good job. Good evening everyone. Tonight I first have the pleasure of introducing Victoria As. She is a first grade student in Miss Resnik's class and Miss Rednick wrote a lot about her. She wrote that Victoria is a ray of sunshine in her class. This month her classroom job was the smile maker and she did an amazing job. Oftentimes you can see Victoria helping others, leading with kindness, and accepting challenges. Her happiness is contagious, her work
ethic is inspiring, and her love of learning is fantastic. We are so lucky to have Victoria at Liberty. Keep leading with your kind and open hearts. something. >> Okay. And Max is a second grader at Liberty. And his teacher, Mrs. Glove, also wrote a lot of wonderful things about Max. She said that Max comes to school each day with a big smile and a great attitude. Matt always tries his best, listens carefully, and works hard on every assignment. He is kind to his classmates, helps others without being asked, and shows respect to everyone. Max is a wonderful example of what it means to be Ranger strong. We are so proud of you, Max. Keep shining and showing your amazing effort and kindness every day. No, I just walked back. >> I know. >> Good evening
everyone. Um, as you can see, Brian Ortiz is our third grade student of the month and he is ready to go. And before I share some great tips about Ryan, I just want to point out, not only is he a great student, but he's also a great athlete. He came straight for practice. >> Um, >> Brian is above and beyond an outstanding example of Ranger strong behavior. He not only puts his best effort into his work, but he is a kind and thoughtful young man. Brian goes out of his way to problem solve and help others do the same. He cares deeply about doing his best and helps support his classmates in reaching their goals as well. Our glass community is a better place because Brian is in it. Congratulations, sir. >> Our next speaker
of the month is fifth grader. >> Thank you so much, >> Aiden. Congrat. >> Here's some great things about Gayen. Hayden is a shining example of what it means to be responsible, kind, and hardworking. He always gives his best effort, whether he's tackling a challenging problem or helping a classmate understand an assignment. Hayden shows great respect for his teachers and peers, and he can always be counted on to follow directions and make positive choices. His enthusiasm for learning and friendly attitude make our classroom a better place every day. Way to go, Hayden. We are so proud of you. Congratulations. >> And our final student of the month, >> seventh grader, Megan. Congratulations. >> Here's some great things about Megan. The seventh grade yellow studio has selected Megan as the student of the month. She displays
many characteristics of Ranger Strong. She is a young lady who shows pride in her schoolwork. She always goes above and beyond our expectations on classroom assignments and assessments. She is always cheerful and comes to school with a positive attitude. Megan is a definite asset in and out of the studio. Keep up the great work, Megan, and continue to stay Ranger strong. And Jacob is not here today, but we will give him his award tomorrow at school. And I will turn it over to Miss Dens. All right. Well, thank you so much for allowing us to be here today and to present two of our fabulous students at RHTA. Um, our first learner that we would like to recognize today is Aiden Brook. Um Aiden was nominated by his um math teacher, Coach Maxwell. And our
steam community value for the month is communication. So Aiden was nominated because of his uh communication. And this is what coach Maxwell had to say about Aiden. >> Aiden has been Ranger strong by positively contributing to our math classroom with his communication skills. Whether working in a small group, participating in class discussion, or asking questions to peak understanding, Aiden communicates with respect. He listens to his classmates, asks thoughtful questions, and is always willing to help others. Keep it up, Aiden. And our next student was nominated. Um, this is the season for all of our music concerts and all of our choir and band and orchestra and and the holiday um things that happen in December. There's a lot of it. So, um, this is Elizabeth Bradlo and she was nominated by Coach Cormarmac. This is
what coach Cormarmac has to say about Lizzy. Lizzy truly embodies the Ranger Strong expectations every day in the music room and beyond. She consistently shows respect by listening attentively, encouraging classmates, and caring for instruments and materials to the best of her ability. When accidents happen, she steps up and holds herself accountable. Her responsibility is evident in always being prepared for class and staying focused during rehearsal. She follows procedures and helps create a positive, welcoming environment for others. Most importantly, Lizzy shows pride in her work, school, and performances. That one's >> her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and leadership make her a shining example of what it means to be Ranger Strong and a truly deserving learner of the month. Hey, at the high school evening. So I have a couple of students to recognize and
our first student here is M and softball. She's very involved. She is in SCA Key Club and varsity art. Cameron enjoys science with honored biology being her favorite. In her free time, she loves to play volleyball, spending time with her family. Her dream is to go to the Ohio State University and she wants to become an aerospace engineer. Um, Cameron was nominated by her teacher because she was the driving force behind a big home room versus home room food drive that we had in preparation for Thanksgiving. Um, she was a huge leader within that team and did a great job and she is a great student athlete. So, congratulations Cameron. Our second student from the high school couldn't be here with us tonight in person, but our second student is a senior. His name is
Ryan Anderson. Ryan has been a leadership a leader amongst our students and most notably he is in our Ranger service learning class and he was nominated by his teacher for from Ranger Service Learning because of some feedback that he received from his teacher that he works with at UCL. So he is working with Mrs. Browning at ECLC and Mrs. Browning said about him that he about she wanted to let us know how phenomenal Ryan has been in helping in the classroom. Um she has had several RSL students over the years and he has impressed her the most. Um she has two students with behavioral challenges and he has jumped right in helping with them. He takes initiative and interact with all the students very well. Also, she noted that her principal, Miss Jen Pzone, was
in the room doing an observation and Ryan was very helpful during it and that even Mrs. Kazone noticed. So, congratulations to Ryan, a great representative of North Mitchell High School. on behalf of the board of education. >> So, I want to say congratulations to all of our students. Um it's just um such an honor for us to do this every month and to see our little list of learners and then um of course the high school kids that set such a good example for the rest of our learners in the district. So, congratulations to you uh parents, family members. Um, thank you for being here. I have the privilege of honoring two staff members each month um, who have shown excellence and have been nominated either by a parent, a student, or one of their
colleagues. And I would like to call up Ashley Valardo as our first staff member of the month. Ashley was hired as a leave replacement physical education teacher in 2007 and quickly became a full-time health and PE teacher in May of 2008. Miss Bolardo is currently assigned to the academic center. During her career, she has taught summer school, coached track, cross country, girls golf, and served as an athletic faculty manager. In addition, she she has served as the ENRAP PE and health curriculum review committee and she currently serves as an instructional leader at ENRAP. One of Ashley's colleagues had this to share about her. Miss Balardo is an outstanding teacher and leader. She cares deeply about the well-being of her students both physically and emotionally. She advocates for their needs as a whole and individually by
speaking up for them, modifying lessons to meet their needs, and attending professional development to make sure that she is using the best strategies in her classes. She doesn't just teach students how to play games and sports. She teaches them teamwork, conflict resolution, kindness, flexibility, and leadership. When students are sitting sitting in study hall, she will often take in large groups just to keep them moving as she understands that movement is a crucial part of well-being. She is flexible uh for the benefit of the entire building, often giving up her classroom space and time for a whole grade level event. Miss Bolardo is also an instructional leader, stepping into this role this year with the intention of improving morale and instruction within her department and the building as a whole. She is part of the BLT
and DLT, building leadership team and district leadership team, offering a new perspective as a health and PE teacher. She is kind to every person she meets, making everyone feel part of the ENRAP team. While she is not one of the loudest or most outspoken, her quiet leadership is noticed and respected by her peers, she is an integral part of our staff and she certainly deserves to be recognized from here. Our second employee this evening is Mrs. Key. >> Healey is also um here at Enrach. is a paraprofessional auxiliary aid um when she was hired in August of 2021 and prior to coming to the North Ridgeville City Schools. He was employed by the Westlake Police Department as a crossing guard and spent over 20 years in um Palm Beach working for the sheriff's office as
a crossing guard. I sometimes wondered if it would be worse in the heat of Florida or the winters of Ohio, but um Key has traded in her crossing guard um duties um for a pair of professional assignment here at ENRAC. And one of Keely's administrators had this to share. Over the past two years, Keely has transformed our inschool assignment room into a space for students to reflect on their negative behaviors and how those behaviors impact the people around them. In addition to a space for completing work and assessments, she actively seeks out professional development opportunities to positively affect the students that she works with and works hard to communicate effectively with teachers and administrators to ensure that the students are receiving an appropriate positive support. He works very hard to do her very best on
a daily basis and we at Enrach appreciate the support she provides to our students every day. Congratulations to Key and thank you for the care that you show our students. >> Thank you. >> So, first and foremost, congratulations to all our students and staff. It's always amazing to see the recognition and see the successes of our students. And then finishing it off by recognizing our staff because they're the ones that are truly responsible for our students. Um, we have a building report coming out of early childhood learning community. I could ask everybody to hang tight. We'd like to get a group picture after this report. >> Everyone, hello. >> Thank you for having me. Um, you might know that I am new to this position this year. So, this is my first time getting to
know all of the wonderful preschoolers and kindergarters here in North Mitchell as well as the staff. And so, we did an activity early on in August with um under the direction of Dr. Heather Miller um working on portrait of a ranger and portrait of a graduate. And one of the activities we did was about our story of self and we had to think about what were all the experiences and things that really brought us to where we were today. And so that led me on a period of reflection. And then I wanted to go ahead and take that to our staff as well. So on the next slide, uh you'll see this is a picture of our staff meeting, our very first one. And we're sharing our stories of self to each other. It's really
fun to hear the different ways that our um staff has come together and the different um experiences that they bring to the table. Um it's interesting in different jobs they might have had before they came into this profession and really what drove them here. a lot of their stories have to do with educators that really touch their life. So they wanted to touch someone else's life. Um so then we thought, okay, if I have a story and our staff has a story, what about the story of our students? And so on the next slide, you'll see that we went ahead and started having some conversations about what the children are bringing to the table, what do we need to know about our students so we can best um help them and support them? Uh what
background knowledge do they have? And um how do we really dig into what our students bring um forth to us? Um, so then after all of these stories ourselves, we went ahead and made a collective story. And you'll see on that next slide, uh, that we have some building goals. And so those first two goals, I'm really going to dig in during the presentation, but the next two, um, our goal three is all about making a collaborative work environment. I don't know if you know the staff at ECLC, but they're wonderful and so collaborative. So, we're really just fostering that and working on that. And the fourth goal that we have has to do with parent engagement. So, we're looking at some of those tools like Parent Square and Seessaw and ways that we can
have that two-way communication. So, to dig into goal number one, you'll see that there's a lot of words in here. So, I just want to break it apart a little bit. It's really talking about working through oral language and working through purposeful play and using something called the multi-tered system of support. So, I'm going to break those three things apart for you and explain them further. So, you might think to yourself, when do children start to read? And a lot of times people think, well, it's in first grade or a lot of people think, well, now it's in kindergarten. It actually starts before a baby's even born. And it's listening to all the sounds of spoken language. And so, we think about the students that we get in preschool and kindergarten, think about all the
learning that has already taken place for them, getting those bones ready, that foundation ready for reading. And so when we look at this graphic here, it's really showing us how we start to learn to read and how we move through that to where we're reading to learn. And so the important role that we have with our early childhood students and the roles that our parents have are huge in terms of reading development. >> So how do we play a role with our oral language in UCL? Here we have a picture of Linda Reiner. She's our literacy coach. She's doing some PD for our staff. We that middle picture there is Emily Burke's classroom. She's using her preschool curriculum, pre-K on my right way to go ahead and um get the kids talking about vehicles. They're
sorting. They're talking about the different attributes. And then that last picture there is actually Miss Morris's class where they're being very intentional with their oral language. How do you say hello to someone? How do you make eye contact? What kind of conversations do you have? And then that leads us to purposeful play. Play is wonderful, but this is actually the work of the child. This is where they're learning and they're growing and they're getting ready to read through this. So purposeful play is playing but with intent. So we have teachers there, assistants there that are really having that dialogue and increasing that oral language. Um they're intentional with how many communication pieces they have. And so that is why it is so focusful. >> So I want to talk a little bit about an approach
that we used to have in Ohio and really in education in general and how it plays into some literacy laws that have been uh passed recently. Prior to these new literacy laws, there was something called the dyslexia paradox. Because what we know is children start to learn to read when they're really, really young. But our old system, we had to wait. We had to wait until kids were really failing and not being able to read and then we had to respond. So, we missed all this wonderful opportunity to intervene. And Ohio was really some of the first states that um passed some of these laws that are saying no, we need to intervene sooner and we need to be more proactive in our approach. So that leads us into what we call the multi-ter system
of supports. We have this lovely flowchart here, but um I'm basically this is laying out the instruction that we give and the type of assessments that we give and how we make decisions about children's learning. So we do something called tier one instruction and that just means everybody gets it. So in kindergarten we have benchmarks. We have a phmic awareness program called integrity and then we also have as web. That is how we assess our students to make sure that they're learning and growing. >> And sometimes on those assessments we find that our students need a little bit more. Okay. And on the next slide you'll see that we move them into something called tier 2 instruction. That's where it's very targeted. So what we learn from our students is if they're having a hard
time with letter sounds, we're going to work in a small group on letter sounds. if it's um you know letter naming, we're going to work on those things. And we do that for about six to eight weeks and every two weeks we're progress monitoring that. We're giving them an assessment to make sure that they're learning and growing. If we find that that's not happening, we move on to tier three. That means it's more intense. So we might have a smaller group or we might try different strategies with them to make sure that they're learning the material. And we use the Sunday system for both of those. >> This is our report card. And although it doesn't specifically say ECLC, this is your metric, we play into such a huge role of this. This is almost
like our collective piece in terms of our district. So all those pieces that we're building there at ECLC, they're going to show up on our target. >> So our next goal is all about school climate in which we're talking about PBIS. You might have heard this from some of our older kids and we're really targeting attendance as well. >> So something we're doing districtwide is stay in the game this year. You might have heard of it and u Miss Bails has really supported our district with this. At our level, we're just teaching everyone how important it is to come to school and sometimes it's hard to get to school because our little ones, you know, stay want to stay at home, but school is so important. And so that's our message for our families with
that. >> So this leads us to PBIS. That's positive behavioral interventions and supports. And those are our school rules. Uh this year we changed our school rules to align with liberties. Um you might have known that I was from Liberty last year and so that alignment is so important for our students so that they get it all here at ECLC and they're ready to apply when they get to Liberty. So we focus on being safe, being respectful, and being responsible. And this is us in action. Um once children fill up this little um chart, this is from Andy Charts. You might also know that we have dog Andy there. He's very popular. Uh once the children work really hard and they show that they're being responsible and safe and respectful, we give them a little
bring in the prize cart. Um you might it's hard to see who's more excited if it's the teacher and I or the children, but here we are. >> They're all these fun things to do on it. And I think that particular class I got to bring stuff to school. So it's those little things that make such a big difference. Uh we have a voice for our students in ECL. We have something called kinder council and actually we have a representative from every kindergarten class that just gives us some input on things. So we talk about our school rules. In the middle picture, we had to do several rounds of spinning in the grown-up chairs and then back down to business. Uh and then we just talk about all the things that we love. Um if
you want to go to the next slide, you'll see how we have our preschoolers have a voice. So we were going to purchase something for our preschool classrooms. And so our kinder council members went around and surveyed them. So, we did a little vote. Do you want stickers or do you want sand for your classroom? And you can see Stan really was a big winner there. And we were practicing using our tally marks. So, um, we had a really great time interacting with them. >> So, this leads us to, I think, the best part of the presentation. We have Miss Gonzalez here. She's our brand new music teacher and we have students from several of our CL kindergarten classrooms and then some one of our preschool classrooms. They're gonna come in. They're gonna sing a
very special song for us today about our roles. All right. Hello everybody. My name is Elizabeth Gonzalez. I'm the music teacher at the ECLC. This is my first year working in this district and I love it so much. These kids are amazing and you're going to see a little bit of that tonight. So, we have some kindergarteners from various classes and then we also have a couple of preschoolers from Mrs. Herado's afternoon class and they are here to sing a little song for you today called Ranger Strong. Um, this is a song that I kind of made up and to reinforce the behavior expectations of the school, which is to be safe, be responsible, and be respectful, which is our expectations for music and also just as school in general, right? So, these guys are
really excited to perform for you today. This is our first live performance of rain. Here we go. Thank you. I know you're not here every month. You're here to see your students recognize when you see somebody that's every month when one of our principles come here to share with us. Our staff is truly excited and energizing. You can see it pours over into our students and our staff. Truly some amazing people uh invested in your >> We got a couple brief announcements. >> Yeah, just real quick. Thank you, Mr. Baka. Um just a couple announcements for our upcoming board of education organizational meeting. Uh we will meet on January 13th at 5:00 pm here in this room and then that will be followed at 5:15 by our regular first um board meeting in January. Um
and I'd like to take this opportunity now to um thank and recognize Miss Saxon. Tonight is her last uh board of education meeting. I'm the board member after serving 12 long years on the board of education. um 12 years in commitment to supporting students and staff and the North Ridgeville community through her role um and participation on the North Bridge Board of Education. Through the trials and the triumphs that we've had over the 12 years, Marcy has been a steadfast advocate for public education. And we want to thank you, Marcy, for your dedication um and your determination um and your love city schools. Thank you. just have a little something for you the administration put together. I'm at a loss for words and I don't have anything formally prepared to say other than um this
very bittersweet. Um but I'm really excited with where our district is and I'm so proud serving this board. Um, we've really come such a long way in these 12 years when I think back to um this building not being here and just what's to come in the next few years. And I I'm excited to see the progress and um I'm not going far here. But um thank you so much to all of you, to the staff, to everybody, small to the kids.
