It should just be policy approval, not first read. Um that first read was last month. >> Where are you? >> Uh H, last page, third from the last. Policy approval approval first read should just be policy approval.
002>> Thanks. >> All right. So, with that change, do you do a motion to approve the agenda? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Roll call. >> Mr. Gindrozberger. >> Yes. >> Mr. Towhill. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wyatt. >> Yes. >> Mr. Shilling. >> Yes. >> Dr. Brennan. >> Okay. Uh I have a few things to go over. First, the turf is scheduled to be replaced uh just after Well, it was mid-May, it's going to be a little bit later in May, we think right now, but uh we're excited about that. You guys have seen the the final. I I'm excited to see it. I was on the turf, where was it, for a track meet last weekend, and I was really noticing that it's time. So, I'm happy

We're not going to let that go. We're still talking about that. We do have uh we don't have any plans, but we are taking steps to
004uh to address that. That definitely needs to be addressed, and very soon I'll have more on that. The strategic uh strategic planning survey is moving right along. We do have quite a few people who uh who have been submitting that. It is available on our website. We have a sign out front here, and I put a reminder out on Parent Square, and I'll do that one more time or twice more. It'll It'll go on till towards the uh middle towards the end, probably third week of May, that for anyone who wants to community people as well as uh parents. We welcome everyone to input on that. Uh our safety committee uh committee went through sensitive training uh through Alice training uh not too long ago. We'd like to request an executive session to meet with
005you likely in our June board meeting to go over some of the things that that we've learned and discussed uh next steps in implementing that with our faculty and staff when we come back in the fall. So, we're excited about that. The last thing I'd like to point out, just want to congratulate the Teacher of the Year. Very well deserved, Mrs. Dingler from the primary. They're having a celebration. All Stark County's teacher uh each school district their teacher of the year they're getting together tonight for a celebration of education and for the Rookie of the Year uh Ms. Appledorn from the middle school. So, congratulations to the two very, very uh well-deserved teachers, and uh we're excited for that. But, that's why Mr. Ramos and Mr. Werschman are not here. They're with them tonight. All
006right. Thank you. >> All right. Um treasurer's report. >> Oh, no. Any visitors like to speak to any agenda related items? I didn't see anything. >> Uh first item I have is recommendation to approve the minutes from the regular meeting on March 23rd and the special meeting on March 21st. >> I need a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Sorry, having a discussion on my own now. >> Mr. Gingoldberger? >> Yes. >> Mr. Towhill? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wyatt? >> Yes. >> Mr. Shelley? >> Yes. >> Uh and the other item I have is recommendation to approve the minute transactions as presented. >> Need a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion on that? >> What was the consultation services? >> So Conquest did some
007huge Was that with the parent bridging that parent meeting? Do you mean that parent training group? >> We got We got a donation. >> For strengthening families. >> Yes, and part of Conquest Counseling services. Services. They're They're helping families as the primary and and students as the primary. There's >> I don't think this was related, though. Sorry. >> Okay. Who's asking? >> Because this was from last school year. >> Okay, that's what I was That's what I was saying was like >> Or last fall. >> Okay. >> 25 Let me follow up on the specifically what that was. >> Well, it's not here, right? >> Thank you. >> Yep. >> Sorry about that. >> Okay. >> Any other questions? >> Okay. Mr. Gindlesperger? >> Yes. >> Mr. Joehill? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhard? >> Yes.
008>> Mr. Wyant? >> Yes. >> Mr. Shilling? >> Yes. >> Oh, it's me. Okay. So, we'll Right? Am I right? >> Yes. >> Good. Thank you. So, the super uh superintendent's recommendations, we have resignations uh letter A, recommendation to accept resignation of Donna Leo Leonard, a fourth grade teacher at Stevenson, due to retirement effective January 1st, 2027. And two, recommendation to accept the resignation of bus driver Donna Walter, bus driver number seven, due to retirement effective May 29th, 2027. >> Need a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Congratulations to both of them. >> Yeah. >> Well deserved. >> How many years did Donna have in? >> 25. >> I was going to say 28. How many? 25? >> 24 or 25. >> Okay. Awesome. How many years did the bus driver have in? Does
009anybody know? Five would be enough >> She's been here for a long time. >> Our Our bus drivers are amazing. I They're amazing people. Any other discussion? Roll call. >> Mr. Gindlesperger? >> Yes. >> Mr. Joehill? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhard? >> Mr. Wyatt? >> Yes. >> Mr. Schilling? >> Yes, but I hate to see him go. >> Okay, for letter B, appointments and assignments. You're You're It looks like a longer list. We had a wrong We had a a wrong date for a couple of them. So, for um number three, Ethan Douglas, number seven, Alexis Myer, we hired them already, but at at a different date. We wanted to put that through to have the correct date on there for August 17th. So, it looks like it's a lot more than it really is.
010Um But, here we go. And we have some people here in attendance. We'll We'll introduce them after the fact. So, number one, recommendation to approve the hiring of Carly Adams, uh English language arts teacher at Northwest High School, zero years experience on step one, effective August 17th, '26. Two, recommendation to approve hiring uh Adrian Combs, English ELA teacher at Northwest Middle School, bachelor's degree, zero years experience on step one, effective August 17th. Number three, recommendation to approve hiring Ethan Douglas again, math teacher at Northwest High School with bachelor's degree, zero years experience on step one, effective August 17th. Number four, recommendation to approve the hiring of Maggie Downer, intervention specialist at Stinson Elementary with a bachelor's degree, zero years experience on step one, effective August 17th. Number five, recommendation to approve the hiring of Jessica
011Elam, uh guidance counselor at Northwest High School with master's degree, four years experience on step five, effective August 17th. Number six, recommendation to approve the hiring of Tiffany Learn, health and science teacher at Northwest High School with bachelor's degree plus 150 hours, four years experience on step five, effective August 17th. Number seven, recommendation to approve uh hiring Alexis Myer, science teacher at Northwest Middle School with a bachelor's degree, one year experience on step two, effective August 17th. >> Need a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. Discussion? >> Uh Shawn. >> Yes. >> It's really nice to have all these young people here. Are these due to retirements? >> They are. Uh there are a couple uh Like for example, um Ms. Lisca is leaving. Her husband got a new job and so she's having to
012leave. They're going to Chicago near Chicago, but the large number I don't want anybody to be alarmed that no one is leaving because of uh their dislike or their distaste or they're not paid enough. I mean, a lot of these, which is a good thing, uh it's due to retirement. They're largely due to retirement. We're going to see this over the next couple of years, quite frankly. We have more and more people that are getting very close to to retirement, right? So uh that'll be an issue. It'll be like this for the next two to three years. >> Okay, thank you. >> So we're actually we're actually going to have a teacher that they have to call Mrs. Learn. That's got to be a first. >> So who is all all who are all here?
013>> I'm Yeah, I'm Tiffany Learn. >> Tiffany Learn and >> I'm Tiffany Learn. And then I'm Adrienne Fox. >> They're all Yeah, all of them I In fact, who was I talking to that someone today? Oh, no. One who was not here and I said they graduated from high school in 2022, I think, and I was like, holy smokes. I mean, you guys look I'm getting old, which is part of the problem, but you guys are all very, very young. All right. Which is nice. >> Yes. >> Are any on the list not a direct replacement? >> What do you mean by that? >> Like a one-for-one. I mean, they're replacing an outgoing teacher or any a new position? None of them are new positions, are they? >> Oh, no, they're not. They're supplies. I'm
014sorry. >> Is health science new? >> It it is, but it's replacing uh Alicia who we we didn't hire anyone because the kids who had health at the middle school, we were fine to have that not be high. We could put that off for a year. It got handed Now we got to have it again. >> That's a good question. >> All right. Any other discussion? >> Welcome everybody. >> Yes, welcome guys. Thanks for coming tonight. Appreciate it. >> Oh yeah, Mr. Gindlesperger. >> Yes. >> Mr. Toe Hill. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wyant. >> Yes. >> Mr. Shelley. >> Yes. >> Now we can say you're welcome. >> Officially a little bit >> We'll be official. We'll be official. We'll do it the right way. >> Mhm. >> You want
015to go over it? >> ELA adoption. >> You can go if you want. Or if you're staying, I mean we've only got like 27 pages left. Page and a half left and it won't take very long. It'll be riveting. So >> ELA adoption. Is that YouTube friendly? >> Uh yeah, I'll just introduce it. So, uh ELA adoption, number one recommendation to approve the 6-12 ELA adoption, middle school Amplify ELA, high school Savvas. How do you pronounce that? >> Savvis. >> Savvas My Perspectives. And I'll hand that over to uh Deborah if you'd like to speak on those. >> Sure. We um started this process early in the summer like we usually do. And um settled on these two products. 6-8 is going with Amplify ELA. Um strong literature base, strong rigor level, which will amp
016things up even more. And um large We're going to go with the digital subscription as well as the paper description or prescription. >> Subscription. Ooh, I'll get there. And um so what will happen is the student consumable book, which we really like. We've had that in the ELA now for a while. Allows the kids to notate in their own book, highlight, reference, do all those things. Each year they'll be redelivered, so we pay up front. Um and they come in. And there's also digital pieces. So they'll go back and forth between either assigning it as digitally or doing it in their workbooks, textbooks. And both have very strong writing components. So we were very um pleased because I wasn't quite sure what to expect with each of these companies as far as pricing cuz we
017did the elementary adoption 6 years ago which was heavily literature based. That ended up being almost $320,000. They have a lot of consumables though at the elementary level with a lot more books, a lot more tactile things, things like that. So Amplify with even with the professional development that we chose to do, it came in about $80,359 which was significantly less than I anticipated. You'll notice if you look a lot of the student text is in a newsprint purpose. So that's less expensive than the glossy textbooks. Plus we don't have to worry about rebinding. And we are doing 3 days of PD for them. One day in June so they'll get their materials before they leave because we're voting this evening. And they'll go through everything. Then we're going to do another day, half day
018in August. And then we're going to do a half day follow up late October where okay, you've been using it for 9 weeks. Where you at? And then we can also do additional years of PD if we need it. But we felt really comfortable. One of the nice things with Amplify is there are several districts that are using it. And I did take a team of middle school teachers over to Green Local who adopted this. This is year four for them. And when we got back in the car, the teachers like we got to have it. We need this. This is right. We liked what we saw. So it's nice to know that they can they made some connections that day. They can reach out as well saying, "Hey, where you at? What do you
019think? We're struggling with this." So, we're excited for that. And then, the high school, we were very intentional this time looking at our numbers and we went with Savvas My Perspective. Again, it's a consumable book. And the cost for that one came in right around 96,000 um cuz you have an additional grade level there. But, we did order less um 11th and 12th grade books cuz we find that once they get to 11th grade between CC Plus, CC Plus and AP courses >> RG Drake, this year we only have one 12 true 12th grade English class. They're all either out or in APs of some kind. 11th grade, we sit around two to three to four depending on the year and the enrollment. I'm looking at our decreasing enrollment numbers. Steph and I talked about
020it. I would rather not have tons of books that were left over with at the end. I'd rather have to go to her and say in year six, "I need 50 copies at this grade level." So, the nice thing about both of these companies also is they allow us to um buy subscriptions. But, I can move them between grade levels. So, if I have a bigger grade level come up I will get We always get I just did it for this year for math and couple of other products. In May, they send out and say, "What are your anticipated numbers for the upcoming year?" And I can move them around based on a class. Like, Greg's incoming sixth graders this year, there's 151 kids. But, in his seventh grade it's much lower. It's in the
021120s. So, I can move those subscriptions around and that gives us a lot of flexibility as well. So, we're super excited. Um we already have a Savvas product in the district for elementary math. So, the digital portal again is really set up. It's just Jeff and I making sure that the courses are assigned where they need to be. So, they're also going to do some PD as well. High school will do one in um they're going to be slightly different. They're going to do one in August, one in June to introduce it, and we'll have new staff come in as well cuz we know who they are now at both buildings. And then they after having conversation with them, we're going to do what you call office hours, which are dedicated just to us, and
022they'll do two 1-hour digital sessions. Probably one in October, and then another one in February. And we can send in any questions that the teachers are struggling with before, and they will tailor it to whatever they need in that moment. And if they don't submit a lot of questions, then they'll fill the rest of the time with you even using this for 9 weeks. Here's what you should now be looking at or now you're here in February. Both of these companies also integrate with um being able to pull all of our map data in. So, that's loaded in, and they can see how the kids are scoring, and then put them in groups, and look into see what they need for remediation or anything like that based on those scores as well. So, overall, we
023ended up at $176,623, which seems like a lot, but I was expecting double that. So, I'm kind of happy with this. Any questions? >> Need a motion for >> Need a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Now you can have your questions. Any questions? >> So, is the are the texts fully available online, too? >> Yes. >> That's been really helpful when books get left. >> Yeah. >> And they as long as they have their Chromebook, yeah. >> Uh-huh. >> All of the time. >> With Amplify, and I believe Savvas has the same feature, but if some kiddos have limited Wi-Fi access at home, the book can be downloaded and they the story and they can access it. So, um for instance, if you have a student who's traveling somewhere or they have limited
024at home, then it can be downloaded and they can go ahead and put in all their answers and everything and the minute they come back on campus and their Wi-Fi connects, everything uploads. So, there's really no reason to say they can't get their work done other than maybe they just didn't do it. >> No excuses. >> So, question then, if if you were expecting double, does that mean it was budgeted in this year's financials for three or three or four years? >> Yes, it was. And so, I'm a little nervous, like I said, about what the primary will look like cuz that's going to be a big one, K to 5. So, Steph and I talked and I will roll over the excess from this year into that so that I have a pot. I
025still want to keep it under what I planned, but it'll just depend on cost and what they're doing. The thing that's amazing to me is the shipping costs were even less this time, but I think I got my quotes before all the prices went up. And both companies have warehouses in Ohio, so that also means less shipping costs, so we will, if you guys approve, prob- place this order as soon as possible. Um we may even have We'll have the teacher materials early, but I have indicated that we would take delivery anytime in June or July. It's important to get in front of everyone else so you're not at the back of the line and waiting for things and it's August 17th and we don't have yet what we're supposed to have, so. So, that's
026where we are. >> Any other discussion? Roll call. >> Mr. Gindlesperger? >> Yes. >> Mr. Toepperwein? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wyatt? >> Yes. >> Mr. Schilling? >> Yes. >> So, Adrian, there's your food material order. >> After I sign it. >> All right, thanks, Deborah. >> Sure. >> Next thing we have candidates for graduation. It's always a good thing to have. Recommendation that the list of 163 candidates for the 2026 graduation be approved, provided they meet all the requirements for graduation and other obligations to the school district as certified by the high school principal. There he is. Need a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. Any discussion? >> Still think this is one of the most exciting things we actually get to approve, so >> Yeah. >> It's nice. >>
027Best time of the year. >> There's one 11th grader who's graduating early. >> Wow. >> Just for a point of reference, the graduation is Saturday, May the 16th, at 2:00. >> The time could change. >> Okay, just let everybody >> It's Saturday, yeah. >> 2:00 >> It's at 2:00. >> Hey, thank you. >> Thanks, Adrian. >> Thanks for the reminder. >> Yeah. >> I can't do this without you. >> We'll wait. >> Wouldn't wait. >> Yeah, we'll wait. >> All right, roll call. >> Mr. Gindlesperger? >> Yes. >> Mr. Toepperwein? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wyatt? >> Yes. >> Mr. Schilling? >> Yes. >> For letter E, business advisory committee recommendation to approve the agenda minutes for BAC in the months of March and April. That business advisory committee, it's these
028are monthly meetings that go on that we're that we're asked to do. All superintendents do. We for Stark County, we meet with Stark County business leaders, and we go to different venues, and we just have dialogue, we connect with these leaders, try to uh determine some way like what what's happening in in ways that we could possibly guide our students to to be in the work world at least in Stark County and beyond, but it's it's always great conversation and and good to see the leaders throughout the county. >> Motion? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Is this new, Sean? >> No, it we have to do I I I should do it every month, but we missed it. >> Okay. Any Any other discussion? Roll call. >> Mr. Gindlesperger? Yes. Mr. Joe Hill? >>
029Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wyant? >> Yes. >> Mr. Shilling? >> Yes. >> The last thing uh not the last thing, the next thing, letter F, donations, recommendation to accept donation of $200 from the VFW Auxiliary Post 9795 for the primary for strengthening families. Number two, recommendation to accept a donation of $200 from the VFW Ohio Charities Post 9795 for the primary for strengthening families. Number three, recommendation to accept a donation of $500 from Canal Fulton Christian Fellowship for the primary for strengthening families. Number four, recommendation to accept a donation of $840 uh from Vinyl Supply Unlimited for the primary for occlusion day uh that we had not too long ago. The as I mentioned uh strengthening families with Conquest and uh uh Stark supply helpers for this program. It's been Mr.
030Hershman has been very pleased with this. These folks come out and and they work with families and work with kids on on just how to how to be better, how to communicate better, how to take care of themselves a little bit. He's for the kids. Uh just a great teaching tool and uh and we're we're very thankful for for these groups to to help supply the financial assistance for that. >> Okay. Need a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> No, always always great to see the community >> Yeah. >> So they make sure they test the blood. >> For both all all these groups, too. I don't want to leave out uh I don't want to leave out Lion's Supply and Novelty, either. It's been pretty amazing. >> Roll call. >>
031Mr. Gindlesperger. >> Yes. >> Mr. Joehill. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wyatt. >> Yes. >> Mr. Schilling. >> Yes. >> For each uh policy approval, uh thank you Mr. Elford uh correcting that, too, as well. But, we had uh four items, only four this time to discuss. That was nice. Uh they're they're fairly um easy to see. They're a lot of them are tweaks to the language. Um not all of them, but most of them are just simple tweaks to the to phrases. But, if you want to talk about that now, we can certainly do that. >> I have a question about um I'm sorry. >> Let me get a motion first. Okay. >> So moved. >> Second. >> All right, go for it. Sorry. >> The prime or entrance age,
032there's two possibilities here. Is that correct? >> It goes to the same. The wording changed. But, it goes to the same. It goes to first day of instruction. >> So, will it change every year then? >> Yes. >> Yeah, good. And the reason it's done is because there's a difference. >> Yeah, there is a difference. >> the 30th of September or August 1st. >> Right. And we choose We have chosen August as of August 1st in the in the past. Uh now it's it's being changed to uh for student to be the age of five by the first day of instruction. So, that could change. You're right. But, the question is why are we doing this? Uh the state is aiming to ensure that children are more um developed or or uh more ready academically,
033more ready socially. So, when they're that age, the closer we get to the start of school, then they expect it to be an easier transition for the kids. But, yeah, it's it could be different. >> So, a kid could be a day off, huh? >> I was 2 days off. >> Yeah, wow. Okay. >> And it's the first day we begin any kind of instruction, so we phase kindergarten in, but our first student day is the 20th, so No, 17th, 18th, 19th. Cuz >> First day with kids it's going to be 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th. 20th, right? >> 19th because we're phasing them in, so the first day we bring any kids in is the first day. >> Okay. >> So, let me ask a question. Could someone, let's say Jackson starts a week earlier
034than we do? >> Yes. >> They could send their kid to Jackson kindergarten a year then come back to Northwest? >> SPJ still is should follow this, but has decided at the diocese level that they're using the September 31st date or September 30th date. So, the way the law is written is they can go to anyone and get enrolled. Now, Jackson, they would have to live there. Um >> So, they could pull out of Northwest, they could start here, pull out of Northwest? >> Then they go to Jackson, Jackson has to take them. If a kid they if SPJ and we've had this happen when we changed our date to August 1st, probably 6 years ago, they can go down there, they can enroll, they can never step foot, but the minute they accept them,
035then they come to us and we have to take them. So, we could have kids between that date till September 30th. Parents can request to start early, like if they're a day or two, we put them through acceleration assessment cuz that's considered an acceleration early entrance and we use the Iowa scales and they have to pass that both superior superior cog which is IQ score, academic readiness, and social emotional. And once we scan test all that, the school psychs do that for me because of the superior cog test and the social emotional one, then we sit down with families. So every year we have one or two. In the last 15 years we've only had one parent after seeing the results push and do an early entrance. It was a right placement for that child
036cuz they came early and they graduated as end of their 11th grade year. So that one was an okay one, but it's hard and this is just everyone's frustrated. SPJ is even frustrated with the diocese decision because they could get all these kids that are registering and then come the first day they don't have them because they yeah. So it'll change constantly. It's hard to >> And we can have more discussion with this too. You we can maintain our our old ways, but we just have to we would have to have more discussion about this and pass resolution later. Okay. Any other discussion for the overdose reversal drug? >> Yes. >> Is that Now it says that they have to be in in the schools. Are those available for sporting events and that sort of
037thing? >> They are. Yeah. We're We are we are going to have I think we even have it in that resolution. We're going to have two in each building. Yeah, one one of those two will be with our psychologist with with our trainer Sarah to have one and so she'll have one in her possession along with all of her other stuff. All right, but thank you for that. Good question. Yeah. Any other? Roll call. >> Mr. Gindlesperger. >> Yes. >> Mr. Troxell. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wyatt. >> Yes. >> Mr. Schilling. >> Yes. >> All right. We'd like to recognize any visitors who'd like to speak to any other matters. Anyone? No? If not, I would uh like to accept a motion to adjourn. >> I'll move. >> Second. >>
038All in favor? >> Aye. >> Thank you for coming out this evening. >> Thank you all. >> Thanks, John.
