I'd like to call the uh January 14th Northwest Board of Education meeting in order. Would you please start by saying the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Mr. Gber >> here. >> Mr. here. >> Mrs. Gearhard here. Mr. Shilling >> here. >> Mr. White >> here. Do we have any additions or deletions? >> All right. Um updates. [clears throat] >> Uh I do I have a couple very quickly. So I would like to go over a couple things here folks. Facilities update with our school board approval of the art edition tonight. Apart from the which we will uh we would like to tenatively break ground on February 3rd at 3:30 right what
we're talking about we are very excited for our hearts edition the wait room and the rest room to finally being able to talk about this I think forever but we're excited to finally be there and I appreciate your support that I mentioned last time we've uh we met that I appreciate your willingness to understand the cost of the wasooning very high uh we are going to revisit that part of the down the road uh after we begin the process of uh the wait room, resting room, and the arts edition. So, we appreciate your your patience in that, but I know you understand what we were what we were thinking with the cost just getting a little too high for our comfort level. So, we're excited to begin the next phase of this project. We believe
this will be a huge benefit for our our students for many years to come. Um last the facilities updated with Steph and I and Stacy met with uh turf companies, several turf companies. We're going to uh take the steps on making that still happen mid is the plan and uh we will have more for uh our school board as we as we get closer to that date. The next thing I want to talk about very quickly guys is strategic planning. I know it's not really on my update but I want to talk about that. So we started working on vision of mission statement with stakeholders with teachers um with administrators in the fall put a lot of time in on one day and and collect a lot of data. So a smaller group uh Clark
Deborah Clark and I have been working through to collect all that data put it together to uh create a vision statement and a mission statement for our school district. So what I'd like to do is present that those statements at our February 23rd board meeting or our regular meeting and I mentioned to all this to you before. Uh I' I'd like to request a work session at the February 23rd meeting after our regular uh regular board meeting. We'll have Mr. Sandell here to facilitate going through the process of of really kicking off that strategic planning process with our school board. She'll talk through the whole process with you and get your input and data collection process really where it should start with our school board. Um that will take I I don't know I'd like
to say it'll take an hour but it's really you guys will dictate the the time on that but um we do appreciate your input for that. So then after that throughout the course of February and March we'll be meeting with uh administrators faculty and staff with parents with uh community leaders and even students to collect data on uh our direction with uh strategic planning for the next three years. And we'd like that it's kind of the reason why I wanted to present the uh mission statement the vision statement. We'd like that the strategic plans to tie into those that mission statement uh as we work that our mission statement as well. So, and then once we devel develop all those goals, we'll also have a um we'll have a uh what what am I think
we're going to have a survey. We'll have that available through the month of March. Even if parents don't want to come to the nights that we're going to be available in March, they can still contribute and supply their input on what they think should be our strategic planning process for Northwest schools through that survey. That'll be available through the month of March. So once we have all that data, once we develop our goals, I will share that with our school board and likely April or May and prepare us for uh for next fall. Okay. So, that's where we're at. Thank you very much. >> Um, you want to do five? >> Uh, yes. So, yeah, happy school board recognition month. I We're having cake again, ladies. We don't do this every month, Bob. So, Bob
was wondering if we were, this is a new thing. We're having cake every month, but we're not doing that. But, uh, this is January uh, school board recognition month. So what I wanted to say, what we all want to say was uh we all want to extend a huge thank you to our school board for your leadership and and uh and the guidance that and the time that you dedicate to uh help uh the school district, your comm uh commitment to to uh our our students. It really makes a difference and we appreciate that every single day. So I I certainly appreciate that. So we want to thank you. We have plaques for you as you can see. I'm sure have those hanging somewhere of great prominence in your homes. We appreciate that. And uh
also cake for anybody who if you want to stick around giant cake, you can't beat that. But uh I just want to say thank you. So we appreciate everything you do. Thank you very much. >> Okay. Thank you. That's all I have. All right. I'd like to recognize any visitors would like to speak to any gender related items. >> All right. My first item is recommendation to approve the minutes from the November 26th regular meeting, the December 16th special meeting, and the January 5th organization. [clears throat] >> Need a motion for all three of any discussion? >> Mr. Gber, >> yes. >> Mr. Chill, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gearhard, >> yes. >> Mr. Schilling, >> yes. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. Uh my next item is the uh recommendation to approve the GMP amendment number
two um for the district improvement project. This is the arts edition portion of the project. [cough and clears throat] >> So I need a motion. So moved. >> Second. Any discussion >> before you guys? >> Yeah, I just want to thank uh Regency and Harris Day for coming once again. They felt like uh um they actually made that suggestion to show up to answer any questions that we couldn't answer. They would certainly help clarify that as well. >> So, thank you. And this Jason, this gets building, roof obviously, but that gets electric, everything in there, you know, we're still supplying the garage doors. >> This is as proposed, right? Stacy has mentioned taken a couple of things out, but that's as proposed and we would a need. Okay. >> Yeah. And I'd like to say
a big shout out to Stacy for that. He's putting some time and energy into that. So, thank you, Stacy. And that number is the 737 number. All right, I have a motion to discuss one thing back number two and resolution number one. Is that correct? >> Yeah. Yeah, that's incorrect. I'm sorry. >> That should be the 737 84157. >> So that 15. >> Any other discussion? >> Thank you guys for your work on this. Much app >> Mr. Glesburg. >> Yes. >> Mr. Toill. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Shilling. >> Yes. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. >> Thank you guys. We can uh we can all take a deep breath now. [laughter] >> You can let your pencils dull for just a little bit. Anyways, so appreciate it. >> Don't feel
like you have to stay the whole meeting. [laughter] >> I know it's riveting, but you know, >> but there is cake. You can just say take over. >> Thank you guys. >> Thank you. >> Yep. >> So my next item is a resolution to approve the alternative tax budget. >> Yeah. Let's let's take a motion a second. We can have discussion >> as much as we want. All right. Go ahead. Talk and then we'll discuss. >> So, this is something that we do every year. It's in state statute that we have to approve this by January 20th. Um, and what it basically is is laying out our need to collect our property tax moneyies. It also has some additional so that would be for our general fund uh our bond retirement fund and our permanent
improvement fund. Um there's all of our other funds are included in here. That's what the county auditor then uses to certify uh estimated resources for um next school year. Actually, um, what I'll say that is different this year is that the process is the county auditor sends us information about our property tax collections for this calendar year. And that's kind of our basis to then build our budget. Um, the numbers that they sent us this year are in fact a little higher than last calendar year. And what I can tell you is that they're not accurate. Um, we know that they've passed legislation at the state level that's going to affect our revenue. At this point, I don't believe that the counties have had an opportunity to calculate what impact that has on each district.
Um, we have a meeting at the end of this month. I I'm not sure if they're coming to talk to us then. I'm hoping they do. We have a meeting with all the other districts in the county um at the educational service center. I'm hoping we get an update then. Um, what I will say is for this calendar year, what we're being told is our revenue related to property tax will be similar to last year in that they are going to reduce our property tax revenue, but they've said that the state is going to backfill that reduction in August uh for one year So that's the expectation. What happens in the subsequent years? Again, we don't have the information or the calculations from the county. I'm not sure what that looks like moving forward. >>
And that's just what they said they were going to do. It's not necessarily what they will do. >> Correct. I don't know. I I um I'm not that was spelled out in the legislation that was passed. So, I'm not I feel that we have to do this because we have to do it, but it's uncomfortable to know that it's not as accurate as it should be. And there's also a piece where they pulled back the five year forecast instead of what was it before. >> So in the past we had a May and November 5year forecast that was due. Uh last year during the budget bill they changed that to um August and February. So and it's not a fiveyear it's a three year but actually Okay. Um, I'll bring that forward next month and
and really it is a great tool for us to look at as a district about the direction um of our finances moving forward. Um, if we don't get accurate numbers on our property tax collections within the next, you know, month, I feel like that forecast is also going to be accurate. We're still going to have to review it and approve it, but I I don't think if we don't get the numbers, it's not going to be accurate. I mean, I could make some estimates and just decrease by X amount, which I'm thinking about doing, but I I'm I'm again I'm hoping that we get information from the county. Um having with what other treasurers in the county are doing. Also, we're all >> Yeah. >> Any other questions? looks good now. May not look good
in a month. >> Okay, >> that's the expectation. >> Any other positive comments? >> Just reassess my house. >> All right. Need a motion. >> No motion. Second. Uh, roll call. >> Mr. Gandlesburgger. >> Yes. >> Mr. Chill. Yes, >> Mrs. Gearberg. Yes, >> Mr. Schilling. >> Yes, >> Mr. W. >> Yes, >> uh my last item is then now certificate. So, these are instances where we've made payment um when there was no purchase order in place. So, we have three items. One, the first one is do you want me to report out Let's get a motion first. [clears throat] >> So the first item is education alternatives that is um speced services from last year. We closed the purchase order but there was indeed one additional invoice that was uh still out there that
we did not have uh automat automatic fire protection. The vendors started doing work prior to us having purchase order in place. Um and project school nutrition is a contract we have for software that creates school menus and many things for the food service area. Anytime We have these that are over $3,000. We have to bring to the board. >> Any questions? >> Do any of these have a they don't ins? >> Yes. >> Mr. Hill. >> Yes. Mr. Spear. >> Yes. >> Mr. Shilling. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wy. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Uh, I'll take over from there. We have a letter A, appointments and assignments. This is the recommendation that the following person be hired as substitutes for the 256 school year check. We have three subs. Holly Davis, long-term sub. William Bacon,
longterm substitute. Need a motion. Um, I asked you this earlier, but just so we have it in record, Holly Davis is longterm >> and William Bacon is >> Mr. Bacon. >> Yeah. Yeah, he's good. Any other discussion questions? >> Roll call. >> Mr. Gber, >> yes. >> Mr. Tohill, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gearart, >> yes. >> Mr. Schilling, >> yes. >> Mr. Wy, >> yes. >> Resignations. We have recommendation to accept the resignation of bus driver Melissa Janice from bus number 10 effective January 1st, 2026. Motion move. >> Any discussion? >> Mr. Gberger. >> Yes. >> Mr. To. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Geararter. >> Yes. >> Mr. Shilling. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wy. >> Yes. >> Supplemental contracts. Recommendation. The following person be awarded supplemental contracts for the 256 school year. Contingent upon criminal record
check certification and number of student athletes. We have Pers Math. Excuse me. Start math tournament. Michael wrestling assistant girls varsity Griffin wrestling junior varsity a motion. >> Any discussion? >> Mr. Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Schilling. >> Yes. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. Uh classify substitutes. We have recommendation the following person be hired as substitutes for the 256 school year criminal record check. We have John back custodian maintenance Amber Dunn and kitchen. April John's aid. Tiffany Reed. Hello there. That's why I was like okay welcome >> aid and bus driver. Uh David Shen bus and custodian. Danielle Snder for the kitchen. and Stewart need a motion. >> I appreciate that very much. I appreciate >> the sing. >> All right, >> Mr. Gber. >> Yes, >> Mr. Toeville. >> Yes,
>> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Schill. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wy. >> Yes. >> Uh, next we volunteer. Recommendation the following person be hired as substitutes for the 2526 school year. Contingent law criminal record check. We have Jason Bowling volunteer for speech and debate. Megan Earnsburgger volunteer as a parent in the primary classroom. Jenna Hudel Workman volunteer with cheerleading. Amanda Phillips volunteer. also another parent in the primary classroom. >> Need a motion. >> Yes. >> Did I say substitute? >> That's why I'm like sorry. >> Hey man, we good. Any other questions? >> Mr. Gber, >> yes. >> Mr. Cho, >> yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Schilling. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wy. >> Yes. >> Next one's a big one. A lot of schools are removing open enrollment. We are still
doing I've had a lot of questions about this. So, yes, we are still moving forward with open enrollment. We were able to do so. So our recommendation to approve the open enroll policy for the 26 27th school year. The open enroll period will begin January 15 26 and close on April 30th 2026. Neotion explain that just so it's explained one more time on the video. We accept people for open enrollment. statewide but only if we have space in those classes. >> That's correct. >> Is that K through 12? >> It is and we do value I mean we do look at our numbers. We're paying very close attention to that. Um and we have had to turn away [snorts] requests. So we are being very careful that we meet in the springtime when the window
closes with principles we go through the whole process make sure we're doing the right thing >> is the neighborh that we have in >> we have and I don't know for sure >> I know >> we end up on the positive side >> okay >> I can get you those numbers specific numbers so >> when someone enters as an open do we allow them to do that every year are they subject to the same >> they have to reapply every year >> okay so they could be here a year and kicked out >> they could yes And that I mean that doesn't happen too often. I don't even know what's happened, but um we do ask them to >> it doesn't happen often. >> Okay. But yeah, there are a lot of variables that are
but right now I'm happy to say that we're able to accomm when they came in. Say you can take three but you can't take all 10. >> The other thing we sometimes look at that we deal with kindergarten is already have a student in an upper grade level and do you have space for that person if they're branded for the families don't want to take one >> but you have to have numbers and we're really pretty >> I will give you the specific numbers coming in but I I know that our numbers are stronger coming So basically on January 15th we just start people calling our office >> any discussion thanks for questions >> Mr. Gberger. >> Yes. >> Mr. Toill. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Schilling. >> Yes. >> Mr.
Wy. >> Yes. Next, the approval of the 2627 school calendar. Recommendation to approve the 2627 school year. Need a motion. So, >> second it is color. >> And just just to be clear, it'll mirror um RG drag, which is what was important, I think, for all of us. Uh it'll help with our testing windows. which is which is a bonus for our kids and we start as late as we can. We leave as early as as we can. Everybody likes that. But we do have to have a specific number of days that [snorts] pretty much settles itself. How how does this compare? I know one time we were trying to go county. How does it drag? It's pretty close. I don't know where we are anymore. They are all doing like spring break. Um there's
one that starts a little bit later because weirdness of their calendar, but usually how many days they have built in some are 1878. So their start usually is that the bigs are a little different. especially the ones that are in the not RG but the four that have their own compact for those kinds of services. So they try to make sure that theirs are matching because the kids are going between those four districts. So we're pretty similar still the only starting Labor Day and when you say that >> yes but Labor Day, but they're [clears throat] not usually done until May 15, [clears throat] sorry, June 15. And if they have any snow days that they have to add on, so they go a lot longer, >> which people don't like. So >> I think
Lori said do that, right? Well, I mean, we talked, we used to call it the rule, but we haven't done this for a long time, but it used to be if Christmas was on a Thursday or Friday, we always came Monday and Tuesday of that week. And then pushing to have two weeks and two weeks and two weeks. And so that's kind of where we've been sitting. You can make up some time. l when you go into that later start date after Labor Day also really messes with the fall sport a lot if they're not waiting until after Labor Day they could have two or three weeks of football before their students It's interesting to not always say they are not one of the couple of districts that have the largest number of students who
attend. There are a couple districts who have a lot of students who actively participate. district has some but not what I would consider large compared to some of the other districts on our side of the county further south. It's just a weird thing that they have. >> I will say before you guys I just appreciate NTA and their input. We worked together felt like we were on the same page too. So I appreciate your guys working with us. >> De what's the difference between a teacher exchange and a staff Um staff days typically are the four days um the exchange days is the teachers have 184 days they work the first day and the last day of school or staff day then they have two required parent teacher conferences and that's where it's coded as
exchange day because they do their conferences at night and then we have strategically in our district you can put them whenever but we always have them that for the long time Monday after and then like this year it's after spring break or after spring break because Easter's on Sunday and a lot of families like one Monday to get kind of that. So those are there and then the waiver days are just days that we bring in um no no school is usually nobody is here but the waiver days are days where they count as teacher days and they count as student days but we've asked the to allow us to not have kids come in so we can do professional development or something else. And you're allowed to have up to two of those in
a school year. Thank you. >> Any other discussion? >> Roll call. >> Mr. Gleber. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hill. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Mr. >> Mr. Wy. >> Yes. for letter H. We have approval for RG Drag board member recommendation to approve Mr. Bruce Bele's board of education three-year term at RG Drag from January 1st, 2026, ending December 21st, 2028. I did mention a couple of you and I'll tell just to make this public. I I haven't talked with Mr. Bele in a while, but he's a great guy. really an asset to have just like I'm gonna ask him to maybe come quarterly to give an update of what's happening after so we're all aware. So I will definitely work on that. Not sure. >> Any discussion? >> We need a long time, right? I'll
take care of that. Thank you. Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearart. >> Yes. >> Mr. Shilling. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wy. >> Yes. >> For letter I. Food and beverage standards annual report of compliance. Northwest local school district adopted is enforcing nutrition standards policy that considers the requirements of the Ohio code and governs the type of food and beverage that may be sold on the premises of its schools food service continue nutrition standards to make the necessary changes to compiance also added cyers our food she does an excellent job and she was she's been on this make sure our school district is comp pretty much a boiler plate policy we're asking to approve. We do this every few years, but she does follow through to make sure we are following the
standard required motion. So second any discussion >> Mr. Ger >> yes >> Mr. Chville >> yes >> Mrs. Gearhard yes >> Mr. Shilling >> yes >> Mr. Ryan >> yes the last I'll Now for discussion item, you can see that we have uh we have over 40 policies that uh that are listed here. It's a lot and I apologize for that. We're just getting a lot. It's just times we live in for many of these. Uh there's tweaks and phrases, but some of them are new. So like I did with the last batch, I will uh give a summary to you. I'll also provide a summary to our principles. We'll have discussions to make sure that not only are you aware of it, but we'll make sure they get the proper way and take care
of that. But we will uh I'll get that summary to you probably next week. I wanted to this week and I just did, but I'll do it next week and and time for us plenty of time for us to discuss oneonone also next month on the 23rd. >> And you did the same. >> Yes. Thank you. Thank you. [snorts] All right. Recognize any visitors like speak to any other items. I'll stand up for >> I just had one thing. I was >> before you um I was at Leville this past weekend. Um and the principal was very complimentary of our district and Mr. Re um for the time that He had people come in and um visit, find out what we were doing, what we're doing, right? Um I don't know when they came in,
but he was he didn't know I was a board member when he was telling me how wonderful everybody was to work with on that sort of stuff. So I just want to pass on people outside district are talking to about what's happening here. >> Thank you. >> Well, I might as well pony on what he's saying. I shared with Lori last week there's a substitute. My sister works at Greg and there's a substitute down there she's very good friends with and they had lunch two weeks ago and she made a point of telling my sister how much she enjoys coming to Stinson more than any other school she in start county and just how well they treat her and and the other one was um a month or two ago when Mike Lower took our
group she dragged it to her she said it was amazing she goes even the other teachers comment how well respectful and well our kids were >> and she goes if you'd like to know the worst district I can tell you but shared on camera >> so but uh she was you know it was noticed by them so same same thing Adams touched on other schools talk about that >> and that's really awesome >> is awesome thanks >> I think that's big kudos to our teachers to our administration all the way up >> absolutely >> to those of you that are here thank your app Thank you. >> March. I know building math tournament is coming up March 7th, the first Friday or Saturday high school. Um it's a fun time to go down and see
them at the end. Usually you can't actually see them doing the tournament part of it, but they have a big celebration at the end of the awards and we traditionally do pretty well. March on Saturday. >> Our teachers are already working with our kids in five, six, seven, eight, and they're super excited. So, >> is that high school? I will tell you that the program starts at 12. If you want to get in there with the parking place that's not 2 miles away, be there by about 11:35 because otherwise you're going to be walking a distance. But it's a fun one. And I'm not sure where we are with Park Town. I think they're regionals now. She's definitely regionals. >> That's great. Thank you, Greg. I I went to the math tournament last year. It
was It was I was pretty blown away how intense is how much fun kids were having with >> It's funny because they're competitive. >> They get really mad if they won last year and they didn't win this year. >> Thank you guys. >> Depends on the competition. If it's mental, >> if it's some of the others, yes, >> we have teachers not only preparing, but we have teachers who volunteer down, help proctor, mentor room or monitor room, things like that. >> Thank you. >> All right. Need a motion to >> adjourn. Second. >> All in favor? >> Make sure you guys grab cake, everybody. Andy, I know you want cake. >> Are they play?
