All right. I'd like to call to order the November 24th board of education meeting Northwest Schools. We could rise. Pledge allegiance. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Dusty. >> All right. Roll call. >> Mr. Chville >> here. >> Mr. Gindlesburg >> here. >> Mrs. Bark here. Mrs. Pure here. Mr. Wy >> here. >> Any additions or deletions to the agenda? >> Student achievement. So, here's what's going on at Northwest this month. The primary, the kids were excited to cheer on and thank our veterans during the district's annual [snorts] Veterans Day parade. Primary students welcome 100 veterans and their families for an assembly filled with songs and thankfulness for our
community veterans. The primary has a busy end of November with the kindergarten The students will share a meal and learn about Thanksgiving traditions. The first graders will have their parade of balloons which enhances the current writing unit associated with stories from the wisdom English and language arts curriculum. Second graders are celebrating Pioneer Day which enriches the early Ohio history and pioneer unit in class at St. Every year, fourth grade students learn about the history and importance of Veterans Day and they hold a special program for their veterans who are family members of Stinson's fourth grade students. The students sing many patriotic songs, read student created poems and essays, and display a spectacular patriotic artwork. This is an important day where the students are able to honor those heroes, highlight their courage and achievements, and most
importantly say thank you for their service. PBIS continues to motivate students. Stinson students have worked hard this year to earn PBIS dollars focusing on team T [snorts] through the count on me program. The are rewarded when the sensit staff witness students being team players engaged in the classroom attentive listeners and mannerly to their peers and the staff. The students have an opportunity throughout the year to shop at the teen store with their PBIS dollars. The students can purchase a variety of items like school supplies, books, toys, wear and experiences with staff members. In addition, each nine weeks there's a VIP party for all the students who choose to purchase the event or students who get in free if they have perfect attendance. There were over 90 students with perfect attendance this first nine weeks. They
enjoyed the dance party. The students received VIP bracelets and their name is on the list to be checked by as they walk the red carpet into this event. Fundraiser students citizen staff would like to thank all the parents and students who participated in the annual fundraiser. The funds provide so many wonderful activities, resources, experiences and memories for student sten students. Top sellers earned many prizes along with Northwest spirit gear, gift cards, pizza parties, and the biggest reward of all was the limo lunchon with the principal. The students ride to Dairy Queen with Miss Barani and Mr. Morris singing and dancing along the way. Certainly was a memorable day for all. At the middle school on November 14th and 15th, the annual middle school play was performed at Puffenburgger Hall. This year's play was entitled Time
Out and was written and directed by high school drama students under the supervision of high school choir director Mr. Busby. The [clears throat] middle school actor shared the story of a magical wrist watch that could freeze time. That magic magical watch made a mess out of a small town baking contest and caused a fair amount of grief for the community res. Thanks to all the students, staff, and parents who helped make this year's event a great success. Just prior to Veterans Day, students in Mrs. Art classes decorated coffee cup sleeves with patriotic themes such as flags, stars, and eagles. The sleeves were then used on free cups of coffee that was handed out at the Speak Easy [snorts] coffee shop to all veterans who came into the store. Thanks to the team at Speed Easy
for including our students and celebrating our community's veterans. Students at the middle school intensive needs classroom have begun taking orders from staff and students for popcorn Wednesdays and that occurs twice a month. The smaller class students tally the submitted orders then prepare small bags of butter or sweet flavored popcorn that purchased for 50ents each. Then the snacks arrived at the lunchroom to some smiling faces. Thanks to Miss Smaller and classroom aids, Miss Connor and Miss King for giving their students this great learning experience. And finally, at the high school, the Northwest Speech and Debate members Andrew and Lance Bowling have already punched their tickets to the state tournament. Andrew was tournament champion at the Watsworth tournament in congressional debate and Lance was tournament champion at the costly tournament in international speaking. N Spanish National Honor
Society inducted a new group of members on November 12th with a ceremony at Puffenburgger Hall along with a delicious dinner. Um a wonderful and delicious delicious All on the same night. Logan Alman and Ben Chance represented Northwest High School at the Stark County mental health seminar sponsored by Alman Hospital. Our Northwest representatives had an opportunity to listen to speakers and grow their networking connection with students across the county. All right. Uh, superintendent. >> Okay. Uh, we have a few things to go through. I just, uh, before we introduce Mr. McBride, just want to talk about a couple important dates. I'll throw them out there. And I I don't know if we ever wrapped these up, but our special meeting we'll have on December 16th at 5:30 as the middle school. There's a lot going on.
We've got uh choir, we've got a basketball game, [snorts] high school basketball game and middle school basketball game. So, we're going to be it's going to be very busy. But, uh this meeting is just to approve the last part of the contracts for addition and the everything has to follow timeline. So, we have that on that day on February. Where will we be? >> Library. >> Yes. >> And it's 5:30. >> 5:30. >> That's I mean that's your fault. You would it be easier if we were 5:00? >> 5:30. Okay. >> 5:30 is okay. Okay. We'll keep it 5:30. >> Um, next thing I wanted to talk about very quickly, uh, capital conference. school board Deborah Steph and I we were down uh in Columbus for OSBA's capital conference and uh I don't know want
to have a casual conversation talk about your first impression I mean I what I think is is great I'll throw it out there I think it's a great opportunity for our school board to bond become better leaders u and that just that just transfers what we do here for school district so I appreciate all of you and your willingness to go down and attend the sessions and go learn different kinds of things that vary uh all over the place. But the the important thing for me is that you know you have a chance to go there to bond a stronger school. That's just that's the most impactful thing. But for my view going in sessions, I went to legal updates. It was nothing nothing that I would really want to get into. Legal be as
you know, >> but anything you guys want to talk about that you saw that you want to share? Then I'll I'll throw it out to you all. >> Yeah, go ahead. >> Um I went to a couple AI sessions and that was quite interesting. They were explaining how they're used in the classroom and the safeguards that we have to have. And the comment that was made is probably pretty appropriate. It says we're building a plane as it's flying. So every day is something different. And another one I went to that I really enjoyed was board members voices for change. And the key note there was we need to advocate for public schools. a couple other ones to student discipline and current legislation. They were all very good. >> Great. Anyone else? [clears throat] >> I
went to this the same one about advocating for change with Breida and I thought it was interesting. Um she was really really talking and how important they are not just locally but at the state level as well. And I know that's not done a lot of that. We probably need to do a whole lot more of getting in our senators ears and years. I was also at the same I thought the the really interesting one that she pointed out to me was on Ohio Department of Education Workforce website when you go to school choice throughout the state they have all of the charter non-charter all of the school options listed with graphics and everything that they have. And then underneath all of that in one simple line is public schools. And it when you read
through all of the stuff, it's it was more like glowing reviews of all of these other options or you go through. It's like it's kind of counterproductive to what you know it was set up for. I thought it was really interesting the way they kind of send a message down to them saying that there should be different >> she made a lot of good points at this session. >> Yeah, I took a focus in sessions that I chose on focusing on things that were student centered, not only current but former students. Um, one was building a supportive alumni network. I think everybody here knows that we have a huge alumni community here. Um, but what I'd like to see us do going forward is is try to work harder to to harness that. There were
some really great ideas about how to alumni to network to work together. Um, I said 70% of this community is alumni. And then the other ones were how are we preparing our students and connecting them not only preparing them for college but preparing them for the workforce? How are we connecting those that maybe aren't going to go to college with community leaders and getting them ready if they're not maybe going to vocational those ones in the middle that aren't going on to higher education. they're not going into vocation, but how we can connect them with those in the community and better prepare them for that next stage of their life. And there's some amazing, right? So, there's some amazing programs that the state offers and things that I was not aware of that I'd really
want us to pursue to try to make sure that that middle section of students doesn't just wander out a Okay. Yeah. I again I just want to thank you guys for going. I think it's important for us as leaders of school district. So thank you for taking time. You guys have a lot going on. You're all very people. So we appreciate that very much. The last thing uh I want to do was introduce uh as you know we're looking for an attorney. Uh I I've known Bob McBride. He's with us in Britain. I've known Bob for 11 or 12 years. We worked together uh for a long time and we have an opportunity to bring him back to be west and just wanted to ask him to come tonight. So thank you Bob for making
it here [cough] but just the same met although I work out of the office fairly often so I'm right down the street there's an emergency represent public school district. I'm looking forward to >> And that's it. Did I mention the organizational meeting January 5th? We'll have that here 7 o'clock welcoming a new board, new old board member. Bob Shilling coming back. Thanks for coming tonight, Bob. >> Thank you. >> And that's that's all I have. >> 7 o'clock. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. Okay. Thank you. I don't have any sheets, but recognition of visitors to determine any agenda related items they wish to discuss. >> [clears throat] >> Step report. >> Um, just recommendation to approve the minutes from the records commission meeting in the regular meeting on October 27th. >> Need a motion. So
move. >> Any discussion? >> Roll call. >> Mr. Toeill. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gindlesburgger. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Barkley. >> Yes. M. Yes, Mr. White. >> Yes. >> All right. Superintendent recommendations >> for letter A appointments and assignments. We recommendation to employ the following after school reading tutors at the tact of [clears throat] Is it general fund or is it just strictly general fund money? They have done this. This group has done this for a number of years. How long? >> A long time. >> Long time. >> Yeah. Number two, we have a recommendation to approve Jennifer as an after school ted for the 256 school year. She's working with special $26 any discussion. >> So this is as needed for >> we have 26 kids. So those are Okay. >> Anything else? >> Roll
call. >> Mr. Till. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gberger. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Park. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Mr. >> Yes. for B salary and or position adjustments. We have recommendation to hire Jennifer Breaker tutor at Stinson with zero years experience effective 10 and number two recommendation to hire Ashley best as a bus driver for bus 26 route 4.25 hours with zero years experience >> second Is this is that two position that says that? Is that new? >> No, it took me that long to find a quality candidate. >> Okay. Gone through a few. >> Yeah, the position um was vacated by a retiree and took this long to find good candidate. >> She's going to be good. Ashley best she's been for couple years done a very good job so we were happy to see
her call >> Mr. Toeville >> yes >> Mr. Glesburg >> yes >> Mrs. Barky >> yes >> Mrs. Ghart >> yes Mr. Yes. Sub contracts number one. Recommendation the following person be awarded sub contracts for 25.6 school year upon criminal background record check certification and number of student athletes. Uh Gina Hus for college credit plus Josh Conrad cross country middle school head coach. He actually has already done that job but had not submitted any paperwork to get paid for doing that. He was high school and middle school. You're wondering is it cross country over? Ron Petrick, volunteer speech and debate. Am I saying her name right? Sam volunteer speech and debate. Amanda Phillips volunteer parentunteer wrestling a motion. >> So moved second. >> Discussion. the parent. That's a good question. Who's this for? >> We're
hiring someone. We don't need her. I don't know why we we make all of our parents want to come in and volunteer. >> Okay, that's probably a I'm not aware of our school. >> We've and and if I can add to that, we've been anybody who is around our kids, we've been really uh working even if they're volunteers, even if they're coming, if they're coming on any kind of a regular basis and they're around kids, we we are asking everyone to get back on check. So, it's been a little bit of a growing pain for for some, but but it protects them. It protects our kids. It protects the school building. So, it's actually a good thing. Yeah, we're not 100% sure where we take her off. >> So, we need a motion to remove
Amanda Phillips. Okay. >> Second >> and then roll call on that. >> Mr. Hill. >> Yes. >> Mr. Glesber. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Barkley. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. Yes. Mr. Wy. >> Okay. And then we can do roll call discussion on that as amended. >> Or uh so are we good with everything else? We'll call for sorry about that. Y fine >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gberger. Yes. >> Mrs. Sparky. Yes. >> Mrs. Gearhart. >> Yes. Mr. Wy. >> Yes. >> So yeah, you just need to check on which one which school should have problem with it. Just want to make sure >> for classified substitute recommendations person be hired subs for the 25.6 school year contingent upon criminal record check. We have Vincent a short a short Thank you. >> I practiced
this and I still didn't get it right. As bus driver, we have Tasha Tasha Brown, bus driver. Amber Dunn, bus driver. April John's, bus driver, also in the kitchen. >> Any discussion? Roll call. >> Mr. Toe Hill. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gber, Mrs. Mrs. Gear. Yes. >> Mr. Wayne. >> Yes. Just want to give a shout out to Deanna for she does an excellent job everywhere struggling to find bus drivers. Folks, if you don't know that she does a great job of, you know, beating the bushes and finding people to come in and really really lucky to have her and bring on some some excellent bus drivers. We appreciate our hard work. Next thing we have policy approval. We have a long list there uh that we talked about this a couple months ago. Um
there's a lot for a lot of these we gave you summary and and hopefully that helped make some sense. Some of the things we've added to uh Mr. Tohjo asked about the religious expression days. the superintendent will always be the contact person for that. Uh for DGC, which is right in the middle with vending requirements, you'd ask about that. That's 50,000 that we'll have that added on as part of our policy [clears throat] and JCBC admission students from chartered or homeucle. But any questions you might have I'll do will I can't say I but we've all been working on this for the last couple months. So anything that you have, we'll try our best to answer them. Hopefully the summary helped things and Deborah help >> second. >> Yeah. So my question there were just
a couple of them that had like just a blank section where the policy or the as it comes from. I just ask for clarification on those. Any other questions on those? >> All right. Roll call. >> Mr. Tohill. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gindlesburgger. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Bar. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gear. Yes. Mr. Wy. >> Yes. >> Now, one more thing. So, you guys know this. We'll meet uh we're we're going to spend some time when we meet. We meet monthly with principles. We'll go through these and break these down. But anything that's going to impact and need implementation, I'm going to have to lean on our principles for that for some help. Um, for some of them are brand new, so we'll sit down with them and as we make progress on that,
I'll I'll give you updates on that to let you know just we're on the same page. But thank you for that. So the last thing we have donations recommendation to accept donation from Trin Trinity Lutheran Church and Clinton in the amount of $300 to Rick Woods for the speech and debate. or for one of the service projects. If somebody's a big fan of Mr. Woods, rightly so. Welld deserved. The guy does amazing things. I'm glad that uh the um nationals for speech and debate will be a little bit closer this time. It has been in the uh the Rock and City of De Mo Iowa last years, but uh [clears throat] be much closer. But we're excited. Oh, where is it exactly? Andy Chelsea, you know, >> thanks for showing up tonight. >> I think
it's Wednesday. [laughter] >> It's in this region. >> It It is. >> Yeah, I think it's >> much closer. >> Richmond, Virginia. That's closer to Iowa. >> That's a That's a little Yeah, pretty tough. >> Anyway, I just want to thank Mr. Woods. He does a great job. We appreciate his work. >> Thank you. >> Need a second. >> Any discussions? No, we always appreciate the community uh giving back and donations like this definitely help the groups. >> Roll call. >> Mr. Toill. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gdlesberger. >> Yes. Mrs. Barky, >> yes. >> Mrs. Yes. Mr. Wy, >> yes. >> Is there any other discussion? >> You guys discuss recognition of visitors determine any matters they wish to discuss. >> That's okay. I want to go on record as saying if Ohio State loses
this week, I will bring lunch to Mr. Ringo. >> I don't remember seeing you the last four years. [laughter] >> Take it easy. Take it easy. >> Retroactively. >> This is one and done. >> All right. >> Thanks, Bob. >> Anything else? All right, we're German. I need a motion. So move. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Thanks everybody.
