Mr. Reyes. Yes. Resolution 2026-03-157 has been approved. I move to adopt Oh, no, we're not doing amendments. I'm sorry. So, we are now at information to the board. Dr. Hunt. Good evening. Thank you. I have a few items to share with you this evening. First, I want to provide everyone with an update regarding the PAGE program. I sent

004a communication to the board this afternoon regarding next steps, and I want to share this publicly. A communication about about the next steps was shared with our PAGE parents this afternoon, as well as with our PAGE staff. At the request of the board, an advisory committee was formed to discuss the PAGE program. Dr. Cruz, Mrs. Zermet, and Mrs. Buchanan met with the advisory committee, which consisted of a group of PAGE parents to discuss the future of the PAGE program. Parents served as advisors to our administrators and did not have any decision-making authority in this process. >> [snorts] >> In fact, program decisions, such as staffing, reductions in force, and program elimination or creation are operational in nature and are part of the responsibility of the superintendent's office and the administration. That said, discussions with the

005advisory committee allowed for the administration to solidify solidify the next steps. Let me share those with you. First, beginning next school year, grade three will be eliminated from the participation in the PAGE program. Students in grades four through six will remain at Parma Park Elementary School for the '26-'27 school year in the PAGE program. PAGE will be eliminated at the beginning of the '27-'28 school year. The advisory committee will continue to meet to discuss the long-range plan for gifted services for these students. In fact, I believe they have a meeting scheduled on the 21st of April. I've also asked for a long-range plan to be shared with me prior to the end of May, so that we have a solid plan moving forward. And at that point, I will share with the board the long-range

006plan for gifted services specific to these students and our programming in the future. Uh I had the opportunity last night to attend and speak to the Parma Council PTA and the Past Gaveliers uh Association, as well as our PTA units last night for their Founders Day celebration. Uh Mrs. Sebastian, our board president uh president, was also in attendance. Uh having been in a few districts over the course of my career, I can attest to the fact that we have one of the strongest PTA councils and PTA units across our district in the state of Ohio. This group unequivocally supports our students and our families, as well as our schools, and I can't thank them enough for that support. I look forward to working together in the future and strengthening our relationship as we support our

0079,000 students across our three communities in this district. Last Wednesday, we held our first in a series of community conversations, Our Future, Our Finances, which was held at Valley Forge High School. Uh thank you to those who attended. We had approximately 54 community members, as well as staff, that were in the audience. Uh Mr. Nucio and I shared our current five-year forecast, our days of cash policy, and we shared very specifically uh information regarding the school district earned income tax, uh as well as our cost-savings measures. And we'll continue to to put that information out into the community. State of the Schools number two. So, this uh came out of some conversations this week. Um >> [snorts] >> So, we solidified a date to host a second State of the Schools presentation on April the

00828th at Valley Forge High School, 6:00 p.m. Uh we're doing this so we can capture more members of the community who were unable to attend the Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event last Thursday. Uh that's an event that is uh hosted by the chamber and uh open to chamber members. So, we want to capture a wider audience so that they can also uh see this live, rather than watching it on YouTube. So, that that is scheduled for the 28th of uh April. And finally, I don't know if you have been watching your calendar, but we are heading into spring break week. So, spring break is upon us. Break begins on Monday, March 30th until Tuesday, March 6th. Students and staff will return on Mar- I'm sorry, not March. Wow. Let me scratch that. I'm going to say

009that again. Finally, spring break is upon us. Break begins on Monday, March 30th until Tuesday, April the 6th. Staff will Staff and students will return on April the 7th. So, hope everyone enjoys the holiday and the break, and we'll see you in April. And that's all I have. Thank you. Thank you, Dr. Hunt, and a happy spring break to all those who celebrate. Cuz we all don't. So, we're going to move on to committee meeting reports. Um first up is business. I will just give a high-level overview. Uh the business committee met on March 20th and reviewed both ongoing and new operational items. Updates included facility projects, such as the Parma Park playground redesign and Normandy auditorium improvements, along with upcoming needs like gym floor refinishing. Uh the committee also discussed a state energy grant

010opportunity focused on long-term cost savings through the HVAC and lighting upgrades. Uh several items are being brought forward for board approval tonight, including the purchase of buses, Chromebooks, a visitor management system, communication radios, and participation in cooperative purchasing programs. Additional operational items include athletic program sponsorships and transportation determinations. The committee will continue working on the capital improvement plan and facility use policies and upcoming meetings. The next meeting is April is in is in April. It is being moved from I believe it was the 16th to the 23rd. And that's all I have for business. Communications and community relations. We have nothing at this time. Thank you. Uh there is not a curriculum report. I do not believe. Uh finance? So we met on Monday, March 23rd and mostly all the items were routine items. Talk

011about fund balance, we went over the insurance reports. There was nothing of substance other than the normal items we have on the agenda. So there's really not much to report. Thank you, Mr. Nucio. And policy, last but not least. Uh we also have not had a policy meeting. So we have nothing at this time either. Thank you. Great, thank you. We'll move right along then to communications. Uh communications from board members. Ms. Sebastian, may I? Dr. Early, yes. Um over since the last board meeting, I had the opportunity to attend tours of a few buildings. Thank you, Dr. Hunt and Ms. Frankie for setting those up. And then thank you for the leadership of Parma Park, Thoreau Park, First Step, Ridge Brook, and Green Valley for providing uh the time out of your day to

012walk the board members through the building. Um since our last board meeting, I attended the DLT meeting. So thank you to Dr. Cruz and Ms. Emmermatt for everything that they put into running and facilitating those meetings along with the building leadership teams that work through the one plans. Um thank you, Dr. Hunt and Mr. Nucio for everything you put into the community conversations event. Um Dr. Hunt, I really enjoyed the state of the school presentation as well. So I've shared that video that you showed us several means uh Sorry. Technology integration moving forward in public education. And then as always, one of my favorite events is the egg hunt. So last weekend took two of the four children to the egg hunt. They had a great time. We always got lots of eggs and it's

013amazing to see the community involvement in that event. Thank you. I think we have a habit of not turning these on tonight. Um thank you, Dr. Early. Uh I also have a report. I had the opportunity to spend time in several more of our buildings while we're doing our building tours and I want to highlight some of the incredible work happening across the district. Uh during our visit to Ridge Brook, the PTA shared a project they funded. It is a new language board on the playground to support communication and inclusion for all students. As someone who is a strong advocate for inclusion, I was truly impressed. This is a meaningful step toward ensuring every child uh see feels seen, heard, and connected to their peers. They're doing a great job at Ridge Brook and I

014think this is something I would love to see expand across all of our buildings. Uh I also had a chance to volunteer at the community egg hunt. Despite the cold and rainy weather, our staff and volunteers showed up and created a wonderful experience for our families. A special thank you to Beth Carter and Carissa Cochran for their leadership and dedication to that. Uh we were also able to tour First Step and we were lucky enough lucky to attend on St. Patrick's Day. It was a fun visit, especially hearing students share stories about mischievous leprechauns running through their building. It was a great reminder of the joy and creativity happening in our early learning spaces. And today, I visited John Muir and was extremely impressed by the continued dedication of those staff and students. Um even

015with the spring break looming right around the corner, the focus and commitment to learning were evident throughout the building. And lastly, as Dr. Hunt had shared, I attended Founders Night, an event I look forward to every year. It was and it is always special special to honor our past PTA presidents and award recipients and it continues to be meaningful to be included among them. Thank you to all of our principals, staff, and students for opening your doors and and allowing us to see firsthand the great things that are happening in our schools. That's it for communication. Um Ms. Sebastian. Yes. Thank you, Dr. Early and Ms. Sebastian for mentioning those school tours. It really is so nice to get to get in the buildings and get to see all of the hard work done there.

016And it's been really fun to be able to compare and see the growth from the past 2 years when I last toured all of these buildings when I first got on the board. So thank you again, Dr. Hunt, for including me in these visits. I really appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you, Ms. Kerpec. I also have one more thing I just wanted to add in communications. Um at the last meeting, I think I believe March 12th, there was discussion about live streaming and um we are again uh we are not live streaming, but we are recording the meetings and they will be posted just as a reminder. Uh however, there was an inaccuracy that uh they were not that they were that the board meetings were live streamed prior to 2020 and um with some

017research and um uh being able to look at past board meetings, uh that is not true. Live streaming did not start until COVID. So I just wanted to make sure that that was accurate and on the record. Ms. Sebastian, just to clarify, it's video recording now, not audio, correct? It is video recording and will be posted tomorrow. Yes. Thank you. Okay. So um do we have any public comments for items on the agenda? No. Okay, so with that being said, we will move right into uh Oh, that's right. We do have a PTA report. I apologize. Thank you. I yeah. Thank you. Linda Nicholson, I'm the second vice president of Parma Council of PTAs. I bring you greetings from our council. March has been a meaningful and productive month as we continue supporting students, family,

018and staff across the district. Last night we hosted our annual Founders Day dinner, a special tradition honoring the legacy of PTA and bringing together past and present leaders and award winners. It was a wonderful evening celebrating service and connection. We had 46 past presidents attending representing approximately 140 years of president terms. Thank you to Dr. Hunt and Tamy Sebastian for joining us. This month is also national level This month it is also national level advocacy. As Parma Council PTA representatives attended the National PTA Leg Con to support policies that is strengthen public education and family engagement. March 7th and 14th, we held our annual babysitting course at Valley Forge. We had 25 students participate and earn CPR certification through our partnership with the Parma Fire Department. A special thank you to Captain Feder for his

019continued support for our program. Our geranium sale is currently underway and runs through April 15th supporting our student scholarships. 030Two of the people that we accepted their resignations this evening, Azra Oswald and Shelley King, I had the joy to work with at Ridgebrook. And they have dedicated their lives to their careers in education. I know they'll be greatly missed. So, I just wanted to acknowledge the work that they've done in our district. I wrote down a couple of words to describe them, passionate, dedicated. For Shelley specifically, just such a gentle spirit. Azra, such a fierce advocate. So, I just These are just names behind us, but these are people that have given countless hours of their lives to our district. So, thank you. >> [applause] >> Unless anyone else has anything to discuss, this will conclude human resources. Thank you, Ms. Kerpec. Thank you, Dr. Early, for your words. Uh we will now move to

031policies. We have none. Thank you. Information requested by board members. Seeing none, we are going to now open up um to public I'm sorry. >> I'm so sorry. No, I do want to just confirm, and I think we should share publicly the plan for recognition for April and May. Have we shared that out with the community for like spring sports, retirements and everything like that? You know Did you want to Yeah, so we are For the first the next board meeting in April, it is Is it the career tech or is it spring sports? Which one's the first meeting? I don't remember. >> remember, but I we are going to do that in April. So, we do have a plan in April. We'll be at one of the meetings recognizing um students from winter sports,

032and the other meeting will be uh recognizing students from our career tech program with the competitions. And then in the May meetings, we'll be recognizing certified retirements, and at the first June meeting, we will be recognizing classified retirements. And I believe at the second meeting in June, we will be recognizing students that participated in spring sports. So, I think it'll be exciting over the next 3 months to see um those individuals recognized at our meetings. Thank you, Dr. Early, and I just want to give you recognition for uh trying to move that forward because Dr. Early realized that there's many staff um and students that start planning vacations towards the end, and we want to make sure that they're able to attend. So, thank you for that. Uh with that being said, I am going

033to now move into public comments. Um so, we do have one for now. Oh, there's more? Okay. Okay. Uh so, I'll just go ahead and start reading this. Uh the Parma City School District Board of Education is a decision-making body. We value community input and appreciate those who've taken the time to participate this evening. We will now move to the agenda item public comments. Public participate Public participation is welcome, and any concern dealing with education in the Parma City School District may be addressed at this time. I do want to say and remind everyone that um we also value respectful dialogue. Um it's important to us that we we have that, so we're able to hear everybody. Um at the same time, comments must be related to the business of the Board of Education and

034conducted respectfully. Personal commentary that is not connected to board business may be redirected so we can stay focused on the work of the district. Um so, I will give a first redirection. I will ask them to focus on the Board of Education business if it is outside of that. And then there will be a second redirection, and then you will wave your time if if you do not uh adhere to that. So, um requests to be heard were uh forms were required to be submitted in advance by com- I'm sorry, by completing a request to be heard form and submitting it in person to our administrative secretary. Only those who have completed this process will be permitted to speak. Individuals may not register others to speak during public comment. Administration may attempt to answer questions

035at the conclusion of a speaker's comments. However, in many cases, additional information may be needed to fully address a concern. Questions may be referred to the superintendent or the treasurer for further investigation or study. We um will try to follow up within 72 hours, as we said in the last meeting. Sometimes, there are things that happen in the district that don't allow us to adhere to a 72-hour time frame. And that is uh outlined in board policy 0169.1. Um in some instances, a response may be provided at a future regular meeting. To ensure a respectful and productive environment, comments must be directed to the board president. Speakers are asked to refrain from defamatory, obscene, abusive, derogatory, irrelevant, repetitive, or disruptive remarks, including verbal criticism against any employee or board member in the school district. Personal

036matters and certain student-related issues are governed by board policy and law and cannot be addressed in a public forum. The presiding officer may terminate a speaker's privilege of address if, after being called to order, the speaker persists in improper conduct or remarks. Individuals who do not adhere to these expectations may be asked to stop speaking and, if necessary, to leave the meeting. If a speaker is unable to complete their comments within the allotted time, additional information may be shared with board members via email. At this time, we will proceed with public comment. When called, please come to the microphone. Martin Stanzak. Good Good evening, board. Uh I just had a simple question. I'm Martin Stanzak, 5500 Lorain Drive in Parma. I just had a quick question because we're talking about cuts and that type of

037stuff. Uh what is the procedure involved? Uh just very quickly, if anybody could answer that. Like, is the board involved with it? Is there a certain time of the year that you do do the cuts? If a person is cut, can they appeal it? And uh will that be list be sent to the public in terms of any cuts or layoffs. So, that's where I was coming from. Dr. Hunt, do you want to answer that or you respond in an email? I can respond in an email. It's a process. I know I've explained this before. I explained this at the community conversation, so it's in that video as well. Happy to follow up and again share the procedure with you. Thank you, Mr. Stanzak. Audra Oswald, 700 Scenic Lane, Seven Hills. Dear Dr. Hunt and

038esteemed board members, Mrs. Sebastian, Ms. Kurpik, and Dr. Early, thank you for taking the time to visit Ridgebrook Elementary School on March 17th. I wasn't choked up until Leah spoke. We truly appreciate your interest in our students, staff, and daily learning experiences. It was a pleasure to share a glimpse of the engaging instruction, positive relationships, and supportive environment that make our school community so special. Your presence meant a great deal to both our students and staff, and it reinforces the importance of the work we do each day. We are grateful for your continued support and commitment to public education. Thank you again for your visit and for all that you do to serve our schools.
