welcome to the December 15 2022 Parma City school district district Board of Education meeting please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance congratulations for all uh roll call please president Mr Price president president Dr Smiley can you please confirm this meeting is currently meeting live streamed yes it is please monetary live streaming throughout the meeting and if there is a problem please speak up immediately he'll have that technical difficulty can be addressed yes thank you and I apologize for a late start people out there in the official plan but we had some technical difficulties so we are attractive but we don't have any more um well before we start our normal routine we have a special guest appearance by the Parma High concert choir or at least two-thirds of them actually we're very grateful they were

able to come over on relatively short notice we thought of this on Monday morning Mr plaster was able to make it work so Mr Placer thank you very much students thank you very much to all of you who are going to Delight us with your talents now be fair wasn't being made anything work I asked them I said hey do you mind W 45 minutes early because we have call time at 6 30 tonight for our concert that starts at 7. so maybe if you can push things along wait I think everybody could come over and join us now we're going to do two selections for you the first one is a winter scene kind of piece called Stars I shall find typically done with the piano but we're going to make the go of

it acapella and then the second one is Emmanuel and I'm pretty sure you'll hear the in the melody a song that we mostly grew up with foreign [Music] foreign [Music] I shall promise there will be sure [Music] the music of Stillness [Music] us Lord [Music] [Applause] okay foreign [Music] foreign [Music] and even easy [Music] restaurants [Music] [Applause] [Music] years [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] thank you for your opportunity we appreciate being invited so thanks for having us thank you motion to adjourn um all right first up we have uh Mr Keating for a great presentation about all of the impressive things that are happening at Brentwood [Applause] okay I guess I can sit down it's done oh good evening everybody thank you for having me tonight uh board members Dr Smiley um people in attendance yes

I'm here today to present about our great School of wrenwood Elementary we are celebrating our 70th Anniversary this year so um it's bittersweet knowing that our school will be closing at the end of the year but we have a lot of great activities planned for our staff and our students to recognize our our time with our community so you can move forward thank you so our first strength that I would like to share about our achievement strength is from our most recent report card our Gap closing we received 5 out of 5 Stars so with the Gap closing that a measures that tells us how schools are meeting performance expectations for our students in English language arts math math graduation posts we're in elementary school so the action step that we utilized last year is

that we use our TBT or our teacher-based teams to analyze our curriculum assessment data and Implement changes in our instruction we used our building leadership team meetings to look at student work samples and plan for professional development opportunities for our teachers we used our Benchmark assessment data to form intervention and enrichment groups to meet those individual student needs I just kind of wanted to point out some of the Gap closing information here so if you look at the images the Red Dot is the goal so you can see in our English language arts the three groups that we had were we met our goal for all students and our economically disadvantaged students we only have three subgroups at Renwood and then for our math achievement you can see that we the Red Dot again is

the goal that we had and we met our goal for our white students all of our students that are economically disadvantaged student so we are very close on meeting all three in the ELA and we met met all of our goals in math so that's very impressive um for our the instruction that our teachers are using drilling down to the individual needs of the students in the core instruction and also during during the intervention time that we have with our kiddos um the second strength that I wanted to talk about is again from our report card last year our third grade math uh State testing scores uh you can see Renwood is highlighted in yellow there our third grader Sports 70.2 percent passage rate on uh the third grade math OST last year compared to

the state at only 58.7 and the district at 59.9 that's very impressive and then you can see below that the year-to-date growth we grew 20 from the previous year there's always factors involved variabilities but I think it goes to show the strong uh Team teaching approach that our third grade team has we uh departmentalized our third grade teachers departmentalized last year so they one teacher focused on math instruction the other teacher focused on English Language Art Construction we used our math benchmarking data to plan our lessons to meet the individuals do needs and I know last year was the first year for our adoption of the enVision Math curriculum but Mrs Pfeiffer our third grade math teacher really delve into it use that use this success maker technology that came with the program to individualize

instruction during that high time for our kiddos and math so that's a great thing for our kids and we're continuing to hope that score continues to increase this year Our concern would be for our fourth grade language arts OST scores last year as you can see our fourth graders only scored about 43 passage proficient rate on that much lower when you compare it to the state and the district scores um and then if you look from year to year we did go down um about 17 16 17 from the previous year so to um increase that score this year with our fourth grade team we are departmentalizing with our three teachers our three homeroom teachers this year one teacher is focusing on that English language arts and reading instruction and then one of our other

teachers is focusing on additional Writing Practice for the kids so they'll get the reading and writing in the ELA core class and they're also getting additional writing instruction during their science and social studies and writing time um we have daily writing instruction in our fourth grade to build that stamina and we have are utilizing our close reading and annotating the text the site evidence when we're answering those comprehension questions and going back to the text to find our answers which is so prevalent in the Ohio State tests um we focus on our individual oh can you go back one yeah focusing on our individual student needs by analyzing our quarterly map data and our third grade OST data that we got from our third graders last year to plan whole class and small group instruction

so during our October professional development day we looked at the third grade scores from last year and we looked at the kids and where they need extra practice and instruction so we're going to use that to help us plan our instructions during foreign on the other side of the Playbook we have our resilient Learners and we are very proud that we earned the PBIS silver award last year um it was our first go-around at the application uh so we were very proud at earning that the silver um so when you look at PBIS uh the tier one practices they include all of our students so um we have 255 students at Renwood 100 students have access to those tier one programs and with our cheers Fidelity inventory we received a 90 implementation score on that

um when you look at the silver award that looks at our tier two interventions that we are using um last year that includes included 33 students about 13 of our population and when you're looking at tier two it should be about 10 to 15 that you're meeting the needs for and we got an 88 implementation score on that tiered Fidelity um we implemented tier one and tier two interventions with Fidelity as you can see above um we held monthly meetings to review discipline data and discuss our successes of our tier one and our tier two intervention strategies that we used so I did want to touch a base on those tier two intervention strategies I wanted to kind of bring it back to this current year how we're doing so far as of December 12th

so um our different interventions that we have for kiddos are adult mentoring check and check out so small social skills groups and guidestone counseling and uh we also use our Behavior Specialists to refer if we need to implement any tier two interventions with that so you can see there how many students are currently accessing those interventions um myself and our Brazilian lender team will look at the discipline data quarterly and we make recommendations to our tier 2 team for those interventions we implement we implemented a PBIS screening process this year as a diagnostic tool to identify possible students who may need additional supports with tier two that was something that we just started this year that I think we found some great success with with diagnosing kiddos Our concern which is I'm sure a lot

of schools concerns when they come and speak to you is that chronic absenteeism that was reported on the report card last year I know there's a lot of very variable factors in that way coved quarantining a lot but 43 is not a number that we are we're happy with when we look at um this year our home liaison is working with families when they reach eight absences to create a plan for how we can get their kiddos there if they're not sick you know what's what are the barriers to them getting to school on time uh myself and and the homeless visits when appropriate and we also began um the Renwood 200 Club this year that is a research-based strategy that has been proven to increase daily attendance um we randomly choose four names every

day and if the student is here they're ready to learn on time they come down they get their they get a small token a road wristband they get their picture taken and put up on this board the board is visible where everyone can see it by the gymnasium and then once we fill up the whole board we'll get up all the students uh some small reward our goal is by the time that the 200 Club boards filled up that we have seen our average daily membership attendance increase you know two to three percent so I can report back on that one so stepping into Renwood last year as the assistant principal for about six months and then you've been given the opportunity to be the Principal this year I've worked in and worked in many

schools in Parma um I feel like Brentwood is truly a family feel um and when I say the word teamwork all of the staff is the epitome of what a team what a team needs to be they would do anything for anyone I could go to I could go to Any teacher and ask them hey would you mind you know watching this student for a couple minutes while you know I run to do this other thing and they would say absolutely they would do that many of our staff have been at Renwood for for many years you know a lot of our staff have been there for 15 20 years it's a neighborhood school as many of our elementaries are in Parma so you get to know the families over multiple generations of students that

have attended Brentwood you know you have the student and then you have the the parents of that student and then you have the grandchildren sometimes um but it's um it's a it's that family feeling that goes along with how the staff is um you know it takes a village to raise our kids and I feel like we have a lot of great wraparound services that we're able to provide our families we have a wonderful supportive PTA our PTA actually just earned the School of Excellence award um so we're proud of that we're proud of the the assistance that our PTA gives our kiddos and like I said earlier we are remembering Renwood this year um we have monthly celebrations to celebrate our kids and celebrate our staff and celebrate our school leading up to a

you know final walk through in May and a final picnic that we'll have for anybody that would like to attend and reminisce about our wonderful School so I get to honor some great people this evening and to tell you that this was probably one of the hardest decisions that I've had to make as the principal at Redwood I would not be it would be an understatement um I could probably bring the whole staff up to you guys to honor them because they are just that wonderful um but I had to choose Dr smile made me choose so the first certified staff that I'd like to honor is Patty Martin check um she is a first grade teacher at Renwood Elementary she's taught there for 32 years um so this is gonna you know and sure

is going to be a little bit of a change for her um she is an active member of our resilient learner committee she works tirelessly to analyze uh data and plan instruction not only with herself but with her collaboration with her grade mates the support staff that works in our building are Title One staff our intervention Specialists I can always see Patty talking to them in the hallways talking about a kid I was walking past my first grade team the other day and they were out there analyzing the Santa paragraphs that they were going to send to the North Pole for their kiddos because they're using that as a piece of data to help plan their instruction um she's participating in the the science of reading training that our district is offering called letters um

and when you think of a primary grades teacher caddy Martin check comes to mind she is the epitome of what I would say is a first grade teacher so I'm very very honored to honor Patty Martin trips so you're gonna go through all four and then we'll call them up Perfection perfect Mary Stewart is my other nominee for certified staff member um I've actually known Mary for 22 years she was working at John Glenn when I soon taught there in 2001. and I still to this day remember a conversation we had at the happy machine I was having a rough day I was ready to give up throw on the towel and she's and I didn't work mayor was third grade I taught fifth and sixth grade and and Mary's like hang in there you've

got this Chris and that's that's with me and I'm excited to work with her again this year she um is truly an advocate for all of her students last year she had 66.7 percent of her kiddos passed the ELA test um you can see that as above the the state average and the district average She's continually learning and growing as a professional like uh you know she's retiring next year you know some teachers take that as an opportunity to not necessarily you know put forth you know put forth the effort but not much but she's still collaborating you know I know she was talking with our lead title one teacher to find strategies to help um our lowest kiddos that are coming into her so um you know she's committed to her work and her

students she's often Mary's cars the first is there when when I get there and it's still there when I'm leaving at 5 15 5 30. so she's truly committed to rhinewood and the students at right now I I don't even know where to begin with my my classified staff um valve coil on the left is my Am door monitor but she is staff member extraordinary she goes above and beyond for anything that I ask her to do if I need a sped assistant in the afternoon she Subs if I need a classroom assistant breakfast monitor noon monitor you know valve just does it all and she's been at Redwood for 18 years she took on our banking facilitator um assignment this year so she helps our kiddos who are starting at savings club with the

PSE Credit Union always smiling always smiling making connections with kids I I will always see kids walk past her say can I have a hug today Mrs Coyle and and she's given a met hog and it just a great representation of Renwood as you enter our building every day Susie Lee says uh my wonderful wonderful secretary um being a first-time principal I mean I I work with secretaries at other buildings when I was in administration but Susie can answer my questions before I even ask them um 20 years at Renwood she keeps me and the entire staff organized um bus Duty sheets man you better be turn that into Mrs please um she builds those you know I was saying a neighborhood school you know Susie being there 20 years she knows those connections with

students and families um when they come in she knows many many of the adults in the Guardians by name she knows every kiddo by name she is a true true asset to the pharmacy schools um and I'm grateful to work with her every day congratulations [Applause] restaurant um let's see okay we'll have him go first your editor is going to be proud Scott congratulations [Applause] thank you you have any questions for Mr Keating all right well now questions with you know normal answer that you've done a nice job for a first year principal uh you've done a really good job of its people and a testament here is that they're here to support you so it's excellent I like a lot of the things that you have started the 200 Club I like that I'm

looking forward to see how that seinfills up for you uh and uh you know that's that's why I really don't have any questions they do like that you have a plan uh for ELA to try to get that movie for the textbook so um I'm going to keep it short today so very good though good job thank you excellent people excellent I remember I met all of you at the door I think I'm on one day there so that was awesome um we're going to change up a little bit we're gonna have Mark go ahead and go because Mark's always last last time yes last time yeah that's fine I'll be quick just congratulations to everyone anything um and you for um first time as a principal and it almost sounds like because of her

you might not really be needed too much what's live streams take a note just kidding down but congratulations well congratulations to the outstanding staff at Renwood I've known some of you over there especially with the longevity that so many of you have and uh hooray for you and lucky you Mr Keating for getting the staff and I say that to myself every day well thank you for your uh your work this year uh becoming a new principal I know that's an extra you know hurdle to get over so uh good for you and thank all of you for helping him hey those math scores are pretty great huh how outstanding a 20 increase my goodness that's outstanding and the ELA is really close too so hooray for that I'm uh proud of you and congratulate

you on those successes um fourth grade working on that so I'm glad you're going to raise that score this year I have tons of Faith good good you think covet impacted there's so many variables so many variables you know things are you know family Dynamic attendance well good luck with that and congrats congratulations on the PBIS silver your first time out so that was pretty good and um I um I like that 200 Club too I think that's a nice thing every kid's gonna get recognized you know so that's pretty great and um I love the uh the family feel you know that's it makes it nice to come to work you know and it makes it nice to be a kid in that building too because they feel comfortable they feel cared for and

uh it's a safe place so that that's pretty great to to be able to say about kids and PTA nice great wonderful wonderful School of Excellence that's great I love the um the monthly celebrations of renwood's past and present and history and Legacy I think that's great there's there's a lot of that there so it takes all year to do it so I'm glad you're doing it every month I think that's uh we did that we did a bulletin board last month where the staff put pictures of themselves in the elementary school we had the kids guests obviously mine was easy there's not many males but they the kids loved it they love looking past and saying oh I think that's Mrs Lee's or Mrs Coyle or Mrs Stewart so um that was just one

of the things that we're doing tonight very nice well um hooray have a have much success with that I'll be looking to get over to run more time for sure good job well I'm going to keep mine quick and you guys know what a great job you're doing over there but something struck me there was a little bit different than I've seen at some of the other schools Mrs Brad spoke to us but the longevity of the folks that have been here and I know that that adds a particularly difficult layer to the upcoming consolidation process but I'm going to quote my favorite musical here you guys are the perfect folks to teach him how to say goodbye that is one of the greatest responsibilities that Educators in our district have right now and to

help our communities move forward and to let our kids know that they're going to be loved and educated no matter where they are those relationships that you guys have cultivated over the last 11 20 32 years like those things they're powerful and they're going to keep us moving forward and they're going to keep pcsd proud and strong for many decades thank you Jack guy thing yes I do I just want to congratulate everybody for the great job I know what a tough job it is being a teacher and how you have to be dedicated and hardworking uh I really appreciate it as a not only as a board member but as a as a father and and I know as a grandfather for our district if you're doing a great job as principal that's wonderful

I know it's a tough job and uh you're doing well thank you very much he had my kids and as an administrator he was prepped to go take out of your challenge excellent one more round of applause [Applause] thank you for coming out is an appropriate socially appropriate great time to get out of the agenda yeah thank you for your Christmas sweaters too you'll have to teach that new administrator to get with the president between those in the choir I'm not sure which was more all right Ms pleasureman uh is here this is the last of the senior leadership team to present um our goals that we presented um so we look forward to hearing from you thank you uh Mr Vaughn Borg Dr Sila thank you for allowing me to present the department of

strategic initiatives for the 2022-2020 preschool year it's my 12th year in central office as an administrator so um um our department um really supplies the district role of student achievement transparency and fiscal responsibility which you'll see throughout my presentation we also do implement the Playbook especially in our Career Tech programs for academic achievement and for the resilient learners so what are the major functions of our department we do our before and after school programming college now college credit Plus Credit flexibility Workforce Development for the entire District funding compliance and overseeing the foreign technical education programs and elective courses so first I'd like to start out with our extended day child care you can go ahead a couple slides office and one more okay so Deborah Genesis was actually here today and she is in her

second year correct seems like it's been uh more than two years and it was a very very soon transition with uh Deborah she kind of came in when um we're a self-sustaining program and covet hit the operations of the funding budget quite hard but we're very proud that we are actually at sustainability we still want to go a little bit further and making sure that we have that Reserve budget for um subs and for retirement but we're actually on a great path and it's um very much contributed to the management of Deborah of the before and Aftercare program the before and after program consists of 21 staff members we have 309 families with 359 students we are follow the school age child care guidelines called the stack guidelines which is a very tedious process for

the Deborah's department where we have multiple inspections and we have to actually provide um lots of paperwork ensuring that our teacher our staff members are fulfilling all their obligations for the guidelines we provide homework help and academic support activities and enrichment um the locations of the EDC are at all of the elementaries and in the morning in the afternoon and then Shiloh and Greenbrier are just in the PM because middle schools start later so there's only a need for the PM program the next part um we'll detail the schedule so the program does run Monday through Friday Elementary starts at 7 A.M and in the PM it starts from 3 30 to 6. students in the morning have quiet play depending upon whether they may go inside or outside they have breakfast they do kind

of buy things like games and coloring in the afternoon they're always provided a healthy snack they do homework academic activities and then depending upon whether outside inside activities and enrichment activities and the middle school program follows the same after-school program as the elementary some examples of some enrichment that is occurring this year is Donna Smallwood Center snowflakes for display Alpha Delta Kappa is a teachers organization so um someone's return teachers and those individuals will come and do presentations for our students we collaborate with Lake Metro Parks University Hospital safety Squad beekeepers presentations back Cuyahoga County library and the verb ballet so Deborah thank you for your leadership in uh before and Aftercare I know as a parent that hadn't put my children in before and Aftercare it is a very comforting feeling to know that

they're safe and they are being academically challenged and having a wonderful enrichment programs that you provide for them so thank you another one of our programs that we have is an after-school program which is called the Discovery Center and that is located at Federal Park and it's for feral Park and Ridge Brook students this is part of the 21st century grants this is the fifth year of the grand last year you'll recall that we had it at Valley Forge Apartments Senior High and the grant did end last year it's our own location this year is at Ridgebrook in feral Park Sandy DeFranco is our um say Court our van our program manager we have approximately 25 students enrolled in session one program operates 15 hours a week Monday through Friday students have provided a snack

tutoring homework and various enrichments such as project Legos in the gym cake decorating martial arts and cooking one of the main components of the 21st century is that family engagement so on a weekly basis they do have family engagement activities plus monthly outings so examples of family engagement are their potluck dinners they have the uh Hospital presenting on excellent Adventures they've done Sterns Homestead they've done decorating contests sometimes they'll be going like ice skating tobogganing and different kind of family activities such as that their Community Partners our recovery resources and Ohio Sky Zone which provide students with resiliency activities more than the elementary age program so as you recall last year was our final year with college now with our gear up Grant it was our eighth year but fortunately we were awarded the Upward

Bound Grant which is a five-year grant that is at Parma Senior High so after um this year that Grant will be distributed in evenly between Normandy and Valley Forge for the remaining four years and based upon data of my research the Upward Bound Grant is very um it's pretty easy to renew current recipients of the Grant and passed ones have been on their third or fourth renewal of it so we're very proud of that we'll be able to renew it for multiple um five-year obsessions so college now at the three high schools support our career cafes College and Career one-on-one sessions we do college exposure trips each of the buildings will take students to um four of College field trips for more College field trips a year we do basketball parent exposure nights we um

they also help support the future fair housing Pharmacy Senior High and then they do get into the classrooms at all grade levels assisting teachers and counselors in Naviance activities which Naviance is a College and Career online platform that the district uses additional things that College dental supports are SAT and ACT prep sessions we're actually going to be starting a prep session after break over at Norman High School for any students at the pre-high school they help the students with their essay writing for their college applications they just help students in their overall college application forms through Naviance and assisting them in locating college scholarships in order to make College more affordable something new this year is our College analytics floor program and I do not smoke incorrectly that is how they sell it this is

funded through the Ohio Department of Education and we were awarded for two years located at Pharmacy in your high and at Valley Ford next year that it'll be at Normandy and at Valley Forge so this provides our students with three weeks five days so 15 days total exposure into career Fields where if they come in attend the session then they are provided a out-of-state field trip so we've completed session one session two session one was our business and finance and session two with our arts and communication and that group of students will be going to Chicago for five days and between Christmas and New Year's our remaining four sessions will begin in January and all those sessions will also provide our students with an out-of-state field trip additionally for all those students that want to

out-of-state field trip they're also eligible then for the international field trips that will be taking place over the summer and there's no cost for to our students it'll provide the passport they provide the hotels food the only cost for our students is that they want to buy little souvenirs at their location so that um really a wonderful experience our new our next sessions will be health science engineering manufacturing environmental science and social so that was a very exciting new addition to our high school after school programming another area that I oversee is college part of us so with college credit plus this is overseen by Ohio higher ed so right now I'm in the preparation phase for our information sessions that'll be taking place January 11th at Normandy High School so I am sure that

our documents and our PowerPoint presentations meet the guidelines of Ohio higher ed for this school year then I collaborate with our area colleges Cleveland State and Tri-C in the presentation and then I revamped the forms in order that they meet the new guidelines so we are ready for pushing out college credit plus and that will begin on January 11th with our information night one thing that we're always trying to do is try to eliminate the amount of paperwork and forms for parents so we did turn in the intent to participate now into a QR code to make it easier for families and for students to indicate that they want to participate in college credit plus credit flexibility is an ode initiative which provides opportunities for students to create a student-driven student-owned study option we will

see credit flux um for maybe some students that maybe have mastered maybe a language where they can exempt out maybe for example Spanish or French and they can test by examination so that is credit Flex or we've had students where maybe because their schedule didn't permit with maybe College private box and maybe AP classes where I've seen it with like engineering students in their fourth year there was a schedule conflict where they were able to do a kind of like an independent study under the direction of a teacher in order to be able to take advantage of all the curriculum opportunities that we offer for students so I do oversee the kind of flex application and again ensuring that all of our paperwork and our Protocols are up to date for Ohio Department of Education

all right so now um whenever I pick goals I always try to do just maybe basically like one year goals I like to come out with outcomes so last year I relayed that we were awarded college career exploration funds that was a new funding source under current tax so we always had a career plans for our students in grades 6 through 12 but with this new funds we went down to um kindergarten launch all the way up to sixth grade so this was an effort that was done between myself Chuck Caldwell and Amy's air Matt in um in vetting out picture books and activities that were Oda ode compliant and based on standards then we provided to all of our schools so for example I'm just going to show you a couple of the books

so we did like career day for our students world's fullest jobs who wouldn't know Al Yankovic when I grow up close line Clues two jobs people do what shoes will you wear and who will I be so each of these books correlates to one of our great bands from kindergarten launch up to fourth grade we created activities for the students and I don't know if a parent I always liked those projects that our students with when they're in first grade like what shoes are you going to wear in first grade and so we wanted to make sure that we had those take-home memories for our students and our parents so each of the grade levels has those things where students will write what they want they'll draw pictures on there what shoes they're going to

wear in addition to implementing the kindergarten launch to fourth grade picture books with activities we also enhance a lot of our career exploration activities I know that this is brought to you been to the yed event young entrepreneurs say about this kind of Normandy so we've actually doubled the gray bands and so that we're all going to be offering it to double the amount of students so we're very excited about that we're going back to doing our Career Tech career fairs in the middle school that we had to suspend during covets we're back to doing that we do our learning lab activities we do career cafes the high school level for students so we've kind of expanded the depth of our activities to include more students and more at grade level so that we can

impact the career experiences for our students so um I don't know if you're able to click on yourself yeah are you able to go back to him I'm sorry are you able to click on that link or I'm sorry yeah is that link so right there is our game plan for all of our career exploration activities from Canada launch um all the way through to 12th grade so there are certain activities that are kind of all students participate and then there's optional activities that we have students are able to participate in so something that's very exciting is last year I talked about with Banking and I remember Dr shilac on one of his visits to I believe it was the Cincinnati school where he saw banking in the school district so um he asked if

we would explore it and with the Power Credit Union we've actually after several meetings um in his air Matt and myself and Chuck Caldwell with um Dr spilak have implemented uh um the credit union banking with Parma Credit Union at all of our elementary schools so that does occur every Wednesday at all of our elementary schools and I don't know if you've seen on Facebook I know Amy's posted up pictures it's really cute to see all the kids signed up and they're you know I remember doing the banking when you brought me a little book and then you're getting like little prizes and stuff so it's great so hopefully then we can expand it we're looking into expanding it then through the middle schools for next year so um that's been a wonderful addition uh

a few things go on to the next slide you thank you so the next one would be um it'll be slide 16. so Workforce Development um Chuck Caldwell is our administrative specialist for Workforce Development so many of things he does are specific to just per attack but many of the things he does impact all students from the Pre-K grade 12. so one thing um he does is the curb cafes at the high school level we are doing The Game of Life which impacts about 2 000 of our students each year in break 18 grade 10. um young entrepreneurs day will be March 25th at Normandy High School and that's going to be for grade three through seven so um we're really excited about the number of students that will be able to increase and attendee

there's the website we're going to be releasing the competition information on January 4th We are continuing with our Middle School Learning Labs where we present our CTE programs in a format of a career fair we also do our learning labs to our seventh grade students with videos of our protect programs for them we have done our career exploration Elementary activities and as I stated the credit union banking another component of a job is funding and compliance I get the honor of working with Lucy nuccio on a daily basis so um funding it's um basically our federal programs that we refer to maybe our title programs um and then a lot of us are competitive and entitlement funding that's at the federal state and local level so um a lot of my duties include management of

the funds um I collaborate with designated leaders on their Vision so they may come to me and say hey there's this funding opportunity and all that through the applications on the allowable usage and then we kind of meet like what do you want to do like what their vision is and then I'll kind of let it through the parameters and then complete the application with them and um I mean I do a lot of this with Dr Schneider and Dr stranco I also I'm in the ohip system which is um Ender ode and there's a whole Little World behind the scenes of um compliance and monitoring and data submission forms and application so I do a lot of management of that I do all the completion of all of our applications I've worked with Dr

shocko on the one needs assessment for the district and all the buildings budget management ordering processing Personnel timesheets stipends job postings we as the Lea are the Fiscal Agent for our non-publics so we have to do our councils with our nonpods and we actually manage their funds also um so basically there's a lot of compliance monitoring and data submission involved in our jobs our federal programs we have a really great team Cheryl Meriwether is a brand office manager and then we have Kim Hansel Tim hanslet and Linda Patito that are all are in the secretary positions within our department that are very involved in the working of our management of our funding Title One I collaborate with Dr strapko we have seven elementaries that qualify for plus 18 non-public schools Title 1 School Improvement I

um it's another title one thing for Valley 400 pharmacy near High we have Title II which is our professional development that is um all Parma City school district buildings plus 11 non-public schools that we have to manage title three is our English language Learners funding that is Parma City school district and one non-public school title IV is um with Dr strokko that is all pcsd and then management of 11 down Public Schools I collaborate with Mrs McCaskey on her title ITA school age and title Ida Early Childhood special education I collaborate with myself on YouTube Perkins expanding opportunities where we are we're provided where we're using for the gifted opportunity that is with Dr strombvo I oversee and Esther two and three along with the senior leadership and District leaders we also have our ARP

homeless funds and then we have ARP special ed fund at early childhood and school age that we manage as well in addition to those funds we have some competitive and entitlement funding so uh we do the 21st century which were our Discovery Centers I collaborate with Dr Steiger and Mr Ridgely on school safety grants um staff Wellness with Metro Hospital which is Insurance funded our fast funding which is um at our elementary level Upward Bound is our college now grants our ofcc Ohio school safety grants and then our ode explore Grant are the ones that we have in place at this time the two grants at the bottom are one that we're exploring right now stronger connections Grant is going to be released in 2023 federal government provided to Ohio several million dollars on additional

school safety measures so we don't know what that is entailing at but once that does come out I'll meet with Dr Steiger and we'll go through the parameters and the allowable usage and and apply for it the other one that we're looking at right now is a U.S department of energy Grant that's the renew America School grant program and so we're looking at the areas that are eligible and Dr Schneider and I are going to meet and with the federal grants you just have to write like a paper a couple page paper and then they'll review it to see if they want you to proceed or not so then if we get accepted after the paper then we'll do the full application so we'll provide you updates on how we present that balance my second

goal is in regards to Career and Technical education I always like to vet our programs against other programs in terms of three areas what is our work-based learning what are our college credits and what are our certifications so um we always have it updated I don't mind having people clicking but those are our updates we always have it updated on our website the college credits and the certifications that we offer in our vetting process so Ohio Department of Education tells us for example in the medical program you could pick from at least 20 courses you could pick your courses but then Ohio higher education is the one to tell us well these courses are the ones that count for college credits and sometimes we get those a little bit later so we always pivot so

for example this year we are able to provide additional college credits for all of our medical programs dental and biotech and then we were able to increase our college credits for culinary and discount this year so we will always pivot even if it's like August and we'll change our curriculum around in order to provide the greatest outcomes for students um Mrs Brock you asked me this last year and it's basically going to be the same answer I'm going to give this year about what programs would be have um if I could and again um you know space is always a concern but I would like to if ever the future HVAC Precision manufact Machining and then we talked about the barber school but right now OD is actually revamping it so we're waiting for the

release of it so that we can vet it to see if maybe that's something that we want to add in the future um I'm almost done okay 17 Career Tech programs 983 students 21 Career Tech elective courses grade 8 through 12 4011 C so that means many of our students take multiple elective courses we have 51 instructors uh we have wonderful Department chairs at Pharmacy or high Mrs Winger Mr Brading Valley Forge Mrs dalas and at Normandy High School Mr Chuck Johnson and Mrs Morgan um my roles in Career Tech our marketing initiatives management of enrollment hiring recruitment of Staff funding management compliance reports and needs assessments you have to do my own use assessment the current attack in addition to the physical form um compliance reports curriculum development professional development leadership organizations competition and

then we um last year um the day after I presented last year I actually received an email from Mr Beer from ode recognizing our protect programs is one of one of three in the state that actually met the workplace learning requirement so um that was very exciting so that means that we've met the criteria for students and internships stimulated work environments we're very excited about that recent report card achievement this year was a b 84.4 graduation rate overall a for four year and five-year host programs outcome and Aid and career and post-secondary Readiness and a with 100 questions it deserves to be long um so I'm trying to figure out when you sleep that's a lot of stuff on your plate I know it's a big group of people at work to get that to

work together it's it's so amazing and I I take the CTE program uh when I go to other schools and I say hey I think we have an apple of all the things in the state I know we said to the third but I think but I think we're really fortunate to be able to offer so many opportunities for our students so many ways to graduate or to find a a path that they want to follow that actually I just wrote a couple notes down here about some things I would like to see in your program and HVAC was one of them yes perfect the other one is exercise science well we do have exercise oh never mind um that's so much how I know uh no but anyway thank you very much for all

you do oh it's outstanding and I like the scores for sure thank you great job thank you all right I am with your work and work ethic and leadership as usual um I always say this for folks who don't know like we are so fortunate to have our CTE in-house and these opportunities for kids to go through these different programs with the college now explore and those pieces are direct results of you and your team going out there and seeking out the funding to make those things happen um kind of personnel we were on a college visit with our son Frankie and we were meeting with the professor of the education department that like lead and she was telling the kids like okay well you know you might have a couple of things that we

could use and he raised his hand and started rattling off all this stuff and she's like are you a transfer student he goes no I'm just in a vocational teaching professions in my high school and she couldn't believe it we were in Chicago she was blown away and she said it's very rare that you get a kid that comes in with that kind of exposure and that kind of led up and so those are the kind of and that's not unique to my kid or that program that's across our programs and that's very impressive thank you thank you for everything wow no I was like Steve though the HVAC and CNC yeah that would be awesome people who plays on your list of things that I would like to see here but but all right

every time you do you talk about something on how much you actually have to do according to other stuff but I'm not doing it foreign of you as I look at you and thinking you're a juggler you know and you got all this stuff going on and how do you how do you keep it all going is just remarkable I know you have a great team but still it's the leadership that keeps it going so I I love so much of the stuff that you that you've got your fingerprints on though you know all the college stuff and I love the connection with parents because um it can be a daunting thing to explain you're going through it right now and have already but uh all of us that have gone through with our kids

for parents especially that have not attended College it is even more overwhelming I'm sure so all of this support in the college now realm of things is um I think invaluable to families and students you know that they have that opportunity to to get that much support in the program so it's pretty great and how many kids do you have that took advantage of the Cal the college explorers um I think we have all close to 60 in the first two sessions that are going on the trip when that came up I just thought it was spectacular what an opportunity kids to really get immersed in I mean that you would see at the college level that people are actually paying for yeah and I mean it's amazing that I mean whoever thought this was

amazing ode this is a very very good program oh I'm thrilled that we have it and and the vision of the kids and the families that are taking advantage of it and understand the values wow that's that's exciting too and no cost I know that's that's just remarkable you know that um all that's going on so I I love that too and um we're excited to see the banking Dr smilik thanks for bringing that back because we all loved it when we saw it at Mason I think it was like one conversation with me the rest of us yeah well I think that's great I don't think a lot of families do that with kids that young so we're just very excited terrific I mean like we were not sure how it was going to

go and the lines it's really really amazing um can you send a list of those uh Elementary books uh out about career stuff yeah my three oldest grandchildren are recently started Elementary and maybe I could find some in the next week to add to there um Christmas present and then the last thing I'm going to say uh I'm just going to give a plug for young entrepreneurs yeah that's a wonderful that's pretty cool and I'm excited that that's a standing I look forward to coming again this year but I love all the grants you know this is money that comes from outside of the district courts the education that is done here and that's fantastic because if we had to take it out of general fund we would not have the ability to provide all

these programs so that you're constantly looking for grant funding and support I know Mr nurse still must enjoy that a lot so that's pretty great and thanks to um uh to you for you know continuing to look for the the grant funding because that's that's important and wonderful and you said it so many times that I know tons of these programs are Grant funded so that's great thank you okay thanks for all you do that you're hiding back there I just I had a comment about it and I missed it it's on the front side of my page I loved all the Community Partnerships that you have like established both between that and then the Discovery Center ones with the family engagements that's incredible so I I apologize I missed it and the first time

I didn't put my page over but that was that was a standout for me those different things that you've kind of built throughout our community because um I I want to commend the fact that the number of you said I'm sure you have a big team this really doesn't um it's essentially her and so I Caldwell and Cheryl Merriweather and she when we have continually downsized our central office she's gone down to very willingly in the last couple years we started knowing that this was a huge job there were two directors at the time good number of Staff below them and she took the one directorship that we kept standing so to speak and we gave her a few administrative assesses and each year she's gone down it really I know we always want to

thank a team but understand that her team is extremely and she's been willing to downsize that so it's even more complement to many things as I think you guys said juggle 76 um this these jobs would be three administrative jobs in most districts you would have somebody leading career tax somebody leading Federal funding and that somebody you know the rest of what she what she um I also want to compliment her on her management of Grants and I know seeking grants is great and it's exciting because it creates opportunity but then you have to manage that and she and Cheryl do a lot of that work and certainly work with Sean hand in hand but when we had all that recognition by the state auditor for a perfect audit certainly Sean received a lot of

the accolades and deserves that but Kristen has a huge role in managing all of the Grant in and out so her and Cheryl also deserve a praise for that and finally when we think about you know our why and we saw the choir tonight to remind us of our why the why is the opportunity for students and that's what we've always been about that's what we try to protect pull up any one of her slides you see about 32 different opportunities that a lot of people don't even know about and we try to promote try to promote but those opportunities I don't know that every school district has those and we have that because of her and very grateful for all of your time thank you very much foreign gays on a calendar so I

counted correctly I'm pretty sure this is the projected calendar so we by law have to announce this and then post it and then the public can comment on our calendar uh there are not too many variables when we look at a school calendar a workday is so long maybe much of it's dictated by a collective bargaining agreement but essentially the start and the end dates are you know somewhat flexible and so we because of consolidation have really just looked at not even having the option to start before Labor Day for this year so the couple options we really looked at were starting after Labor Day and having what we call traditional breaks meaning two weeks of Christmas one week for spring break and ending later which is June 14th we're starting after Labor Day and

consolidating breaks and ending June 7th and the popular opinion movie staff was the traditional breaks so our role at this point is to submit this to you and then you have the opportunity to weigh in and we certainly follow the comment but again this did come from a popular election of our so to be available online for a month and folks can send it anything else or myself or this pocket topic if they want a calendar for next year yep when do you anticipate commencement schemes so like this year how it got pushed in you know it got pushed back farther are we thinking I I would hope we could get a 8th or 9th of June okay so where's that the other piece just to say to the side we are projecting that the

state of Ohio will again move primary right now primaries in May but for the last presidential election they moved it to the third Tuesday of March we're assuming that will be the same four thousand says that we are actually closed we don't have students in buildings during elections so that tends to be our spring all-day professional development day if that is not correct we would amend the calendar and just change that one day thank you anything else sir no I don't uh I appreciate the time that we spent tonight thank you so much all right spring system Communications um I'm Gonna Keep mine super short uh the only thing I have to really talk about is my fancy new t-shirt from the Pax program fundraiser and um Pax is an incredible program I saw a

picture with I don't even know how many people were in this shirt yesterday on the line which just goes to speak to how many lives these kids touch on the Educators that run that program so fantastic program and you're just the kids like everything else that's all I got anybody else got something all right well I do it's not right we're next going to be it's a little bit uh so one of my favorite duties of being a board member or a member of the board are those that are that involve students all right being able to go see students do whether it's an athletic event or if it's I'm a guest reader somewhere or I'm attending stem capstones concerts plays of course graduations or even calling Bingo for for the uh Renaissance all those

things are some of my favorite things to do as a board member some of this other stuff I could do without but uh uh I I guess um but anyway so those are my favorite things so if there's two things since our last meeting that I did do and one of them was a ice down Capstone for a third grade at Pleasant Valley so coaches for us do graffiti and M Miller did a fantastic job getting their kids together and I appreciate the invite I know that was one of this is brotha's favorite ones to go to uh and of course you could not make it um thank you she's the principal there so things that did happen there where mayor diguiter came in uh representing City Hall Aaron Lally came in representing the donwood

Smallwood Senior Center Steve Baker was a spicefield kitchen gentleman uh Avery Ash and Delfina flowers for the southwest community base services and then Charles Smoove who's a co-director of the Pharma hunger Center so those guys came in but the kids did things for each of those I know that uh there was a recycling program that they did and they're very uh very excited about I talked with them a lot uh they gave me blankets and gave it to the Southwest Center they did a Food donation to The Pharma hunger Center canned goods Etc they'd be cards for the Dogwood Smallwood Senior Center to give the seniors and then the last thing was the uh the micro greens that they did for uh spicy stuffed chicken um very nice people I'm at Omaha and I had

a wonderful time with that that was really good I was under the gun there uh so anyway no there's uh it was awesome I always like going to those stem things anyway I am partial to the roller coaster one in the physics guys uh that's my favorite one um the other thing I do I did manage to be able to a time to I know we have so many uh concerts and I try to get that all that I can but I did attend a normandy's Winter concert last night it was it was very good of course I like TSO so they they do a nice number with that so it was it was fun to attend and you know we're going to try to Sprint over maybe to the acquire things after uh so

that's about that that's about it that's yeah so that's why I got a little levity to you I'm told it was my understanding you and Charlie that mommy's not home she's somewhere out well when I got home she told me they stayed and talked to me longer than you do all right we didn't talk to her a long time yeah she was a little bit chatty yeah but now this bill allows us to have raffles to raise money to programs which is good the other one is it's called the dpia which we call it economical disadvantage they increase the funding from 14 days into 33 days in which I count my calculations error is additional 1000 across what is that many of you used for it's restrictive the general fund that's used for disadvantaged students

it's called disadvantaged people impact a before it stands for so the different programs that curriculum uses to help students who are perfect but you have to win the raffle to claim it so those are the two parts did the raffle change I didn't read enough about that part of it did the grapple change extend to Acro like funds raised can go back into the general fund or is it restricted to like the Athletics and things like that it's a restores the ability of school districts to conduct a raffle fixing to change including budget okay which restricted by the way across those previously yeah [Music] um was a little ambiguous when it first the wording and the you know and so this is a clarification yeah every student group raises money very good thank you uh

so any amendments public participation you know all right so I moved to adopt resolution 2022-12-450 approval of the written record of proceedings from November 17th 2022 regular and special uh excuse me and special Board of Education meetings second we have a motion and a second to adopt resolution 2022-12 -450 any questions on the board saying none Mr Lucio Mr Vaughn yes Mrs yes this is rugs yes Mr Price yes we're still wrote up yes thank you resolution 2022-12-450 has been approved with the whistle now that brings us to curriculum Mr price thank you Mr Vaughn I move for the adoption of resolution 2022-12451 authorizing agreement for our PowerSchool enrollment registration software second yeah most in a second to a double resolution 2022-12-451 any question of the Council on the board saying non-roll Congress news this

is Brad yes this is yes Mr Price yes Mr yes Mr Bob yes resolution 2022-12-451 has been approved I moved to adopt resolution 2022-12452 approval of overnight out of state out of country field trip second we have a motion in a second to adopt the resolution 2022-12-452 any question on the comments from the board there's four of these okay there's two on the other day there's two different resolutions card went out and don't know I'm just kidding it was a joke for a baseball coach okay all right so anyway I've been on that trip many times go ahead roll call me this is Bratz yes this is yes Mr Price yes sir yes Mr Robot yes resolution 2022-12-452 has confirmed I moved to adapt resolution 22 1 2 2 2023 24 High School course guide

second you have a motion in a second to adopt resolution 2022-12-453 any questions that comments from the board yes resolution 2022-12-453 has been approached I moved the adoption of resolution 2020 212-454 approval of pbla high school course guide 2023-24 second yeah motion a second to the top resolution 2022-12-454 any questions or comments from the board yes resolution 2022-12.454 has been approved unless another board member has anything to discuss that will conclude curriculum for this evening Mr Barnes thank you Mr Sprouts very well done uh brings us some business Mr Rudolph all right I moved to adopt resolution 2022-12-455 approving an architectural firm for the district consolidation plan second we have a motion in a second to adopt resolution 2022-12-455 any question that comments from the board maybe I want to say anything about it yeah

we had a request for proposals so it's a very public process and it follows a lot of legal steps because we're certainly talking about a good deal of Public Funding for this and with two districts I'm sorry with two architects responds to that request for proposals and of those two GPD which a good relationship with Far and Away more impressive than the second one AVG is a reputable firm but a much smaller firm PD's capacity for instance I mean they have three different Traffic Engineers they can work with it's just that it's a more full service firm so we're very confident in recommending that too well yes Mr Bros yes Mrs yes Mr Price yes Mr Bob yes resolution 2022-12-455 has been approved and moved to adopt resolution 2022-12-456 approving District boundary changes second we

have a motion and secondly adopt resolution 2022-12-456 any questions or comments from the board yeah I just want to make sure people understand that um we really did look at all of the different suggestions that were made to us and when we put out the boundaries originally it was toward the end of October and we took suggestions from the public because we knew it was a highly emotional um Prospect of your really starting to go down the road toward and we for the most part heard criticism of not continuing to sort of grandfather in students who have used School of Choice applications to attend a school they wouldn't normally be assigned to so not their home school and what we've assured all of the folks who have communicated with us is that we will absolutely

try to make sure that we can honor those requests but at the same time it you have to find out you know how many kids assign regularly geographically your school can attend there before you start you know sort of letting folks from the outside come in so we're hopeful that you know we're going to have sort of an equal number of requests for changes and everything can work out but it's going to have to be a very strategic process we explain that there's four different criteria certainly you know the time you enter it is is one of them but it in the past it has been the only criteria we will look at you participate in extracurriculars in other words if you've been in the Valley Forge band for three years but now you're sending

Normandy well we hope you can continue There we understand what you want so that is a piece extenuating family circumstances is another so more than sort of those quantitative pieces in the past um certainly space available is important but it's those more qualitative pieces where what is the reason for the request we're going to have to weigh that so that was one piece and then the other piece about the geography piece every time we looked at a suggested change yes you could accommodate maybe 15 or so families that you know kind of line at this school but not without disadvantaging 30 families now we're going to have to cross the main road or travel further so it really led to no changes actually the second piece of that beyond the public input was the part

where we worked with an Ohio school boards Association consultant as well who came in you know hey look at these boundaries we've looked at them ad nauseum but do you see anything did you missed anything they actually said well you really nailed that they gave you some other good suggestions if you're looking at in terms being more efficient from a transportation standpoint but in terms of drawing the boundaries they were pretty impressed by the job that our team Dr Schneider and Mr s will really led the efforts to impressed by the work they did excellent very good thank you very much certainly um I just thank you Dr smilak and Dr Schneider and um the the work that was done on that I appreciate the fact that it came out and gave families a very

lengthy time I think and it was about a month for people to take a look at that those boundaries and making the recommendations or ask questions about it and think about it I think that was very respectful of the families in the district and gave people a lot of opportunity to at least look at that and consider you know have their thoughts heard and um considered because it wasn't just mandated to people and dictated people so thanks for doing that absolutely that's what I was just going to say but oh thank you when Dr Snyder lays down at night he sees maps of elements that's from and he only sleeps about three hours a night so that's his first hour sleep and then the second hour sleep he sees the middle school jobs and in

his third hour she's in high school and then he gets up and works out at 4 30 in the morning so it really it has been a consuming process and it really even from a board member standpoint and being a parent at the same time was done with such Fidelity and like the questions were answered there was always a a reason a valid tangible reason why we couldn't do things I had a conversation with somebody the other day who kind of remarked oh I'm sure no it might but my kids are one of mine's got a new home school too it's part of the process this was not done to you know hug around any one group or population around our community and it really impacted you know everybody and there are a large number

of students who are being impacted because their schools are physically closing and I think that it's the responsibility of the rest of our community to be respectful of that and acknowledge that we can all do our part to make this process a little bit easier by accepting that some of our own children have been moved to a a different building where there will be equally as educated equally as adored and taken care of as they work we embrace all right yes yes resolution 2022-12-456 has been approved great I moved to adopt Revolution 2022-12-457 approving release and indemnity agreement release of all claims second yeah most in a second to adopt resolution [Music] 2022-12-457 any question of the comments from the board saying no no commentary yes this is Brad yes this is yes Mr Price

two high schools okay so that would be probably I'd imagine sometime in June before the end of the fiscal year those clubs should spend a month before this war yeah but I'm sure there's going to be sometimes it's hard a lot of money or oh yeah absolutely but then but then you're going to have a lot of those kids that move to other schools too you know the freshman sophomore and juniors so you know maybe we might need new year I was just thinking if it was populated very good we should just roll apart big party rules and how to spend the money all right that purchase the legislation I have some legislation it raises for other people we did we did he said that and then we had one more thing thank you okay

so I have a couple of pieces for legislation um there was some um movement in the State Board of Education that they adapted a resolution that is um essentially the resolution opposed the proposed changes to 10 or 9 and confirm the parental rights and local control of the K-12 education essentially this is an anti-lbg lgbtqia plus resolution it is dangerous and just continues to perpetuate those falsehoods surrounding that Community within our public school system the big thing that happened is in the middle of the night while we were all asleep our lovely legislators um thankfully many of them I I believe did what was right but they're about 2 30 in the morning what started as an innocuous bill so House Bill 151 was kind of initially um to capture like teacher mentoring and some

other things that didn't really have any controversial meat to it and it kind of went you know largely through the process and um it was amended Last Summer to include the very controversial saved women sports act which banned transgender girls from participating in Girls High School athletics well in the course of all the things lots of things happened it was amended to add a 2100 page Amendment last night to um the save the women's sports dance of being transgender students to strip the Ohio State Board of Education of all of its control and return it to Ode so essentially it was under the governor's control and the House Majority added an anti-vaccine provision and some other kind of things obviously there's a lot in 2100 Pages it did fail thankfully in the middle of the

night so it fell short of the votes needed to hit Dwayne's desk but these are the things that we have to pay attention to because that could have had some really terrible ramifications for our student students so that's my legislative update Mrs Frost do you have anything else you would like to go I've been a lot of concerned about that yeah you know their legislature trying to take over a whole lot of responsibilities of the Ohio Department of Education as it stands right now and that we elect people to the Ohio Board of Education that takes away a lot of um the voters ability to have a say-so in some of this stuff and unfortunately they're they're reasoning behind it is that the Ohio School Board does not have a staff to probably vet things

and to go through it so it would stand to reason the solution rather than piling on more responsibility to folks that are already overworked under the control of the super majority with each property staff the elected officials um with the appropriate folks you know like retired teachers and other people that are making decisions about the education of Ohio's Public Schools very good thank you so much but yeah lots of concerns look at that keep watching that for us appreciate it that's it that's all I have for legislation okay very good there's a human resources Mrs thank you Mr Bond I moved to adapt resolution 2022-12465 approval of the following certificated exhibits confirmation of stipend amounts confidential supplemental appointments confirmation of substitute teacher appointments approval of certificated non-compensated lease of absence acceptance of certificated resignation second

Vaughn yes resolution 2022-12-467 I moved to adapt resolution 2022-12468 creation of school security assistant position and Adoption of job description second we have a motion a second stop resolution 2022-12-468 and a question that comes from the board absolutely I just want to be clear that this really is not necessarily a new position we had been calling these residency officers and they really do quite a bit more than residency so in terms of what would post a job this is more aligned with what we actually provide from this position we feel that when we post residency officers folks see that as exclusively you can own houses and making sure that students live where they claim to live and that's the jobs we've all put it in from that so this really just reflects what we are

asking these people to do at this time good very good thank you everybody else roll call please yes Mrs yes Mr Price yes yes Mr Vaughn yes are you all right everybody okay uh yes resolution 2022-12-468 has been approved advisor of nutrition services job description and Adoption of revised job description that can't be the second Motion in the second cup resolution 2022-12-469 question that comes from the word uh would you say this again since we are your next resolution is to point uh new person into that position we felt the need to look at the job description and make sure that we're actually describing what this person does and so we made can we vote on the first before we introducer well that we're not even to that resolution please surprise yes this is carpets

yes Mr Price yes Mr Warda yes Mr Bob yes resolution 2022-12-469 has it now I move for the adoption of resolution 2022-12470 confirmation of classified administrative appointment replacement back end so motion a second to adopt resolution to 2022-12-470 any question that comes from the board I have a number of comments if I could you want to do a knowledge well potentially my comments are going to help your vote okay uh so a couple things first about the organization when we found out when I found out that Emily was going to be the recommended candidate I felt like it was a really good day for the organization because our goal is always to have waves of talents so that when a talented person leaves and Bob Gorman was a very talented person we have someone ready

to step at the High Point that's what a healthy organization does their succession plans there's folks that are ready to step up and so when I found out that Emily was the person I was really really excited because that's that's how that should work you should lose too much of a step you know the organization moves on because the organization has to move up but on a personal side I just am really excited because you know Emily came in a really relatively fresh into her professional career and has really impressed a wide array of people and that's not always the case with someone with relatively I'm really trying to avoid using an age term with relatively little experience coming into the job she had been our farm to school coordinator and really showed vision and

energy and when we describe leaders and when we interview leaders we always look for three qualities number one do you have presence to you number two are you a rising star You Can you hire someone with less experience if you believe their talent level supersedes the talent level of somebody with more experience and the third part is are you more than a manager you know do you have a vision are you able to have new ideas and Emily has been able to really rise to all three of those qualities I don't work directly with Emily but I know what people say about her and then the experiences that I've had with her she understands that when you work for a school system you are part of the community the job doesn't end at 3 30

or 4 30 or whenever your shift ends you do whatever it takes to advance your school district and the opportunities for kids within the larger realm of your school community and she has stepped up consistently to do that so we're very excited to have her I would also say just as a one one last anecdote she she really you know when we do these interview processes we have a new representation and you know the union representation these were folks that maybe went four or five months without even speaking to Bob so they are all pro Emily which really says a lot now by the way those people love that now and we'll miss Bob certainly but for her to have that type of backing coming in it's just it's really exciting so we're very excited

to recommend Emily too I did not change my vote for my salary yeah well I'm excited to be the one to be oh you're ready for voting you're voting roll call please yes yes Mr Price yes sir yes Mr Bob yes presidential 2022-12 yes four seven zero that has been approved and well congratulations it's also Associated real great time for you to leave Center for two hours sees that above and beyond all right but welcome on board okay unless another board member has something to discuss uh this evening that will conclude Human Resources thank you Mr Price all right I moved to adopt resolution 2022-12-471 approval the technical policy changer policy 1210 board superintendent relationship policy 1230 superintendent assistance policy 1400 job descriptions policy 311 creating a position policy 3112 forward staff Communications policy 3231
