okay welcome to the february 24th 2018 excuse me welcome to the february 24th 2022 parma city school district reporter education meeting please stand for the pledge of allegiance i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all roll call please mr lucio mrs brock president curtis president mr price president mr president mr vaughn president dr smiley can you please confirm that this meeting is currently being live streamed yes it is can you please monitor the live streaming throughout the meeting and if there is a problem please speak up immediately so that technical difficulty can be addressed yes we will all right so information dr smiling sure just a couple items all related to building

our future we currently still have the survey available for our community we have 375 parents and about 775 members of the general community that have completed that it's on our website we really ask for people's participation the the march proceedings of the building our future committee will be dedicated to really reviewing input from the community also considering input from our staff and we made those available as well so if you have not had the opportunity please participate we also have the monitor that we sent and there was a tear off the second page and you could bring that into any school we really our goal has always been to build a community plan not necessarily just one that you know was us putting it together and so people participating in that process is important to

us and we want to see what what people are thinking about different options uh so that that was that was first i also would encourage um anyone uh who would be interested in in the process of how a bond issue is financed and developed to watch the work session that we just had uh we had a work session that started at 4 15 4 o'clock sorry 4 o'clock and um we had rick maniloff who is a lawyer who has worked with us for these purposes before has worked with many different districts in northeast ohio and he really walked through a to z on how we could reduce millage as much as possible and that is our goal to be able to move forward with a bond issue but realizing that we have to be cognizant

of you know our taxpayers and their budgets and their their checkbooks and so i really encourage folks to go to that youtube video which it'll be on our youtube station because it's very valuable to see how we have tried to construct as low of a cost of a prospect as possible so and i appreciate certainly the board's willingness to to work through that presentation with us and with mr manilov and with that we will turn to miss plagerman who runs many important things here careertech is just one she's also we call her the assistant treasurer as well you know we have taylor but kristin is really manages quite a bit of our federal programs and so that means a lot of dollars and cents where she is doubting a lot of eyes and crossing a

lot of teas until very late at night so i always wanted to say that because i think that's the behind the scenes piece of your job that people don't maybe realize the fun stuff the stuff that you know we celebrate a lot is the career tech and i know she'll talk about both but she's very valuable to us in both of those roles and looking forward to her report well thank you dr smilet mr vaughn board members dr smileck in our karma city school district community thank you for allowing me to showcase our the wonderful department of strategic initiatives i'm going to flip through so as with all of our previous presentations we'll start out with the district goals and you will see throughout the presentation how the department of strategic initiatives aligns very well

with the three goals of the district of increasing student achievement improving transparency and practicing fiscal responsibility and again as you've seen in previous presentations you see our playbook on elevating the essentials and focusing building resilient learners and throughout our my presentation the department of strategic initiatives supports the playbook um with our department of curriculum and instruction but then also you're going to see the playbook embedded in our current technical education electives and programs so what does the department of strategic initiative what are our functions so we are oversea before and after school programming college now college credit plus private flexibility workforce development funding compliance and career and technical education so the first thing i'd like to start with is our before and after school program and deborah janicek is here tonight she is our coordinator

of our before and after school program which we call our edcc extended day child care impressive uh i honestly was thinking today is this her first or her second year i obviously if i was in vegas it was her second year because she's done so much but no it's her first year so deb came through the department as one of the staff members and then she was elevated uh this year as a coordinator and um it's been it was a challenging position i'm our edcc is a self-sustaining program so meaning the funds coming in need to cover our our costs plus we always need to have some reserves because we need to cover our short-term subs long-term subs and then if we have a staff member that's retiring as you all know the pandemic kind

of hit our budget operations with our edcc program and through the wonderful work of genesec's leadership we have actually been we're back at being self-sustaining and we're inching closer to our reserve goal of 30 that we want to have so deb i'd like to thank you and your 25 staff members for providing an excellent program to our community i mean i as a parent had to use before and after care and you know as a parent it's difficult you you're bringing your children there you want them to have you know the homework assistance the enrichment and being in a safe environment and and that's program is um amazing there's 25 staff members in our edcc program so we have a 1 to 18 ratio which that is a ratio that is established by our compliance

guidelines as i said it's self-sustaining so our definition of being self-sustaining would be covering our operating costs plus having a 30 reserve to cover those extra costs how are our numbers looking so before the pandemic we are at 455 students and right now we're at about 344 students so we're still trying to um bringing up our numbers so what are the guidelines for our edcc programs so we are um oversight is by the school-aged child care guidelines which is um abbreviated for sac we provide safe environments we provide academic support activities homework help enrichment time and then one of the nicest things about the programs is students have their freedom for like their enrichment or their um own time to kind of have choices to pick what what they want to do instead of being

so structured and going from programs program they actually have choices our locations of our edcc is at all elementary buildings in the am and then in the pm we do not have um one at densler or ridgebrook but those students are able to go to green valley and to thorough park and then we have at the middle school we offer pm after school programming at shiloh and green park we're available monday through friday in the elementaries the doors open at 7am and students are there until about 9 15 a.m they're offered um some quiet play depending upon the weather they can go outside or they do some indoor play they have breakfast and then they have some independent time doing like games and coloring in the pm our programs operate from 3 30 to 6.

students are provided with a snack they do homework and academic activities and then depending upon the weather either doing outside activities inside activities and then their provided enrichment our middle school programs are only in the afternoon as i said at shiloh and greenbriar they operate from 2 55 to 6 o'clock p.m and again they provide snack homework academic activities indoor outdoor play and then independent time and enrichment so some of the amazing enrichment that deborah's been able to provide for the students are through lake metro parks they've done science making with ice cream they've done rapto encounter night creatures they've worked with uh hospitals in doing digital citizenship and safety with bike safety helmets they have worked with the kyle county library they've done johnny appleseed apples and tasting and then one of the favorites

was the beekeeping presentation our next after school program that we provide is our discovery center sandy franco who is also here is our program manager for our discovery centers so we have discovery centers located at thorough park but students from ridgebrook are able to attend the thorough park location there are 38 students it operates monday through friday it's 15 hours a week and their schedule is snack tutoring homework reading enrichment and then they're also provided family engagement activities so some examples of some enrichment that the students do are lego robotics soccer baking soap sewing and cake decorating family engagement is provided to our students at the ridgebrook thorough park location and some popular family engagement activities have been tobogganing they've gone to stearns homestead they have gone to um doing cooking classes with chef katie

as you can see there's some nice pictures of some of their cooking and that looks like steer's farm at the high school we also have an after-school program and one is located at parma senior high and the other one is located at valley forge and all of our discovery center programs are funded by the 21st century learning center grant which is a federal funding source we have 116 students that participate at our valley forge and parma senior high location their program is 12 hours per week so they are there monday tuesday and wednesday and then on fridays they're provided family engagement activities so their schedule goes from 2 30 to 6 when they're in there monday tuesday and wednesday they're provided a snack homework help tutoring and then we do provide our credit recovering and

as of today we had 68 credits recovered at our palmer senior high and valley forage location which is a wonderful services provided to students so that they can graduate and graduate on time other things that are provided from our discovery center at valley forge of parliament senior high is enrichment and family engagement so examples of some of our enrichment are yoga and crafts they do baking they do pasta wednesdays they do metal working and then family engagement is very similar to what i um relate with our elementary they do bowling etiquette class and tobogganing and we have community partners with our discovery centers with ohio guidestones and recovery resources and they are our partners at all of our locations so thank you sandy for your leadership with our discovery centers all right next area college

now so college now our manager is um kathy graham and this is funded with our gear up brands so our gear up grant um funds three advisors at the high schools and what does college now do for our students at the high school we do uh career cafes and this is done in collaboration with mr caldwell who i will go over his department under workforce development they do college and career one-on-one sessions they do college exposure trips they usually average about nine per year for the students and those are all paid for on the buses lunch and all that is all paid for from college now they provide fafsa parent nights at the high schools they are very um involved with our future fair which is occurs every spring at pharma senior high they are

in our classrooms providing workshops on naviance activities which is college and career readiness for the students they provide s-a-t and a-c-t prep essay writing which is important for students to do with their college application but also for their scholarship applications too they help with college applications and then they also provide college scholarships so uh they usually provide college scholarships to applicants um with a gear up grant 800 to 1500 in scholarships rewarded per student which carries over from year to year and then college now had a scholarship which was uh two thousand dollars for students and additionally they also provide a mentoring program for students once they do go to college how to be then successful in college once they leave parma city school district and then additionally with scholarships there's also other scholarship opportunities

that they help parents and students research so that they could hopefully achieve more funding all right so uh part of our presentations are always going through our goals so this year i was um provided from mrs joplo two new areas under um our department and that would be college college credit plus and credit flexibility so in the past i've always got my goals related to career tech or for funding so because these were new for me i decided this would be applicable and more beneficial to our counselors and to our students and parents than if i focus my goals on that so what is college credit plus so college credit plus is a dual enrollment program where students it's free there they can get high school credits and college credits at the same time so

um my role in that is um kind of the district liaison to the colleges to our counselors to ohio higher education which oversees college credit plus and then to our parents and to our students so i provide um the information packets in collaboration with the counselors i make sure that we're in compliance because the parameters change year to year so i'm making sure that we're always in compliance and then um there's a little logistics and in past board meetings you've done mousse with kent state and tri-c so we want to make sure that we have those mous in place for our students so that there's no difficulty when they decide to attend those schools additionally i make sure that all the student forums are correct um the grade reporting is being done and then we

provide um the cost for books too so we have to make sure that all the books are ready for the students and then in rare instances if a student withdraws after the deadline or does get an app there may be some tuition costs that that i need to report so next is my goal for college credit applause which i did accomplish by goal so um basically it was making sure that we had correct notifications correct forms that the counselors were all up to date and that we were increasing student opportunities um as measured by the end product and this ties into our district goal of student achievement so um so you guys can all see those are all my action steps i don't think you have to go for all them so the next area

which is another student choice program is called credit flexibility plan and this is overseen by ohio high on ohio department of education so this is a very student-driven student-owned study option and you can see this um a lot of times where maybe students um maybe have um competency in a language where they can then create a plan where they can maybe test out of that language by reaching a certain score another way that a student can participate in credit flexible flexibility is by creating a credit flexibility plan so that is the way that a student is taking the standards deciding their outcomes what their assessments are going to be a timeline and they're creating this report on how they can maybe meet a course that we offer in the district doing it in an alternate

way so students that want to do credit flexibility they should definitely see their counselors and they can obtain the credit flexibility plan packet and then submit it into their counselors for review so what is this is my second goal which um i feel like completed and it is tied to our student achievements and so again basically i wanted to make sure i was familiar so i went through all the hot or revised codes i actually reached out to 10 other districts to make sure that we were doing everything correctly and then i worked with the counselors and mrs stracco in making sure that we had a a packet that was um a packet that our students and our parents were able to like understand and that through so that that is a plan that they

want to do that they were able to do that all right next we're moving on i feel like i'm pivoting that there's no real way to segue into these different things so on the next area is workforce development so this is um head up by mr chuck caldwell he's our administrative specialist for workforce development and mr caldwell works in kind of different capacities with workforce development a lot of things he does with the career and technical education but he does a lot of district initiatives as well so what does he do with career and technical education he does a lot of work based learning support he helps out with entrepreneurship school-based businesses internships simulated work environment providing classroom speakers arranging and taking kids like college visits arranging and taking kids to industry visits he is

very supportive of our leadership organizations which many of you know them by as skillsusa deca bpa hosa educators rising and prostart so he's very um helpful with our our instructors and getting the students ready he goes on all these trips with the students so um he's very beneficial another thing that mr caldwell does is he um processes and completes the college credit forms with the students so while the students are with us we do have some many students that say i'm never studying put in another institution after i get out of here but we make sure that we try to get them their forms down because you know two three years they may have a change of mind and we want to make sure while they have us as adult supports that they have those

in place for them so he actually works with every single student that is incurred tech in making sure that they have those forms completed he helps me with the massive project of data management so we have to upload all these great things that we do to um in data management forms so that we can give them to uh mrs bannock so that she can upload him into emas so that we get credit for all the amazing things that we do mr caldwell is also very um instrumental in helping out with um career tech marketing events he actually helps me with um a lot of the um planning and also attends all those events so okay all right as in the district mr caldwell does many things for our students that are k through 12 that

maybe are not incur talk he works with mrs graham who i um spoke about earlier that is with college now and they started these career cafes that they're doing at all the high schools so they're doing um three of them at each of the high schools so nine in total he has arranged with mr bob gillingham the how to become a millionaire in our 10th grade college career readiness course game of life which we have tried three years trying to get this thing off the ground and we finally got it off the ground this year so game of life will um two thousand of our students this year in grade eight in our high school readiness and grade 10 in college and career readiness will participate in the game of life activity so we are

starting our third round at the end of middle end of march so um this is a wonderful activity and i'm really happy that we were able to do that young entrepreneurs day we had that for a couple years we had kind of halt to the pandemic we're back again this year that's going to be held april 23rd at normandy high school 9 to 12 p.m and that is for grades 527 and i provided the link there but all the information has been provided to our middle school students so that they can participate mr caldwell has led the middle school learning labs which in the past we used to have our students go to the middle schools and you know be there for like a day and the kids would visit them this has been so

much better when we do these ten minute sessions so we have three in a row three ten minute sessions where our teachers are with our students and showing them these are our classrooms this is the houses that we built these are our cars these are our robotics and um it's been really well received by the students um i think that that was um a very nice change that we've made um due to the pandemic two um initiatives that are at the bottom here are in progress right now we're in the research phase of these these are elementary initiatives with career exploration we're anticipating to get our funds from ohio department of education sometime in march for career exploration so we're looking at some supplemental career college readiness activities and i'm working with um in mrs

stratford's department with amy zermatt and then chuck caldwell myself we're looking at that and then the last initiative that we're looking at is elementary credit union banking and that is again with um um kind of led by dr smilak and then um amy's and myself are actually um in the process of getting that in place for next year and it's kind of under my area because it is an activity that supports college and career readiness okay one more guy oh no i have two prayers funding oh okay are we ready all right okay so funding and compliance so when you're thinking of the funding that we're overseeing in our department i kind of categorize it in two areas one would be called federal programs and then the other one is competitive and entitlement funding federal

state and local so you're always familiar you always say that we're title so um that is what we kind of consider our federal programs so what is our duties in the department of strategic initiatives well first of all we kind of are the management of the funds so we work with whoever that district leader is on the vision and the programming and then we do all the behind the scenes so we're doing all the applications we're doing the compliance through ohid we are doing um like one of these assessments which i work on with mrs dropko and that is a very important piece to all of our title funding that that needs to be done for our district and for each of our buildings we do budget management we do order processing we do personnel

items such as putting up sometimes you'll see the stipends or the supplements we do time sheets and one of the things that is very interesting is we also as the lea we also have to manage our non-public students regardless if it's within our district or wherever they attend so we have to management manage all their funds and do all their orders and have all those consults we do a lot of compliance monitoring and data submission so our department has wonderful wonderful people that oversee and manage all these pos and all of our compliance and cheryl merriweather is here and she is a godsend to me um she's our grant office manager i think today we met we usually meet once once or twice a day and we meet with mr nuccio's department an awful lot

too so um even though um kim hanzo and lynn gogner are actually um secretaries in curriculum instruction but a lot of what mrs jockle does and what i do behind the scenes overlap so we kind of share people and then linda to pete petito is our strategic initiative secretary all right so first i'm going to go through and i'm just going to kind of tell you what our federal programs that we have and i always put next to it like who is that district leader that i'm working with so who's providing that programming in that vision sometimes i'm doing it i kind of talk to myself i got help so um title one is um you always look at that as our seven elementary buildings are qualify and that's mrs droppo and then we also

manage 17 non-public schools too so that is what we hear for math and english um for on the seven elementaries title one school improvement is also mrs droppo and that's math and english that's only for valley forge and pharma senior high title two is professional development again mrs dropko we oversee parma city school district in eleven nine public schools title three is our ell student and that is mr hoon and we oversee palmer city school district funding operations and then also to non-public schools on the back is a continuation of our federal programs title four is mrs dropo and that is kind of our supplemental curriculum you would think of like um supplemental curriculum to our core curriculum that could be our stem arts pe foreign language could be school safety student wellness and we

have 11 non-public school districts and our pcsd school and the next um two are kind of self-explanatory these are our title ideas special education school age and then we have our early childhood which are both um the visionary person is mr hoon i am the person for perkins because that's pretty tech and then expanding opportunities that's mrs dropko that is more supplemental for gifted and maybe ap curriculum and then the final four ones here all relate to esser which is temporary funding that was provided to school districts due to the pandemic so that's our federal focus now we're going to switch over to our other side which is our competitive and entitlement funding which could be either federal state and local so as i um indicated earlier we have our lovely discovery centers and those

are funded by federal funds which is our 21st century learning center we have broadband connectivity school safety we have a couple of um grants that we are actually submitted in our pending amplified pathways staff wellness student wellness we do the fast program gear up upward bound female that's an interesting one right there so um people like so when we first received our first round of sr fun there was nothing else that was coming like nobody knew anything that was coming but you know we had all these parameters in place so we had an opportunity i started applying for the fema and we went through the whole process and we were rewarded and then when they awarded us us or two they denied us so now we just received word that they are rewarding us again

so i had to resubmit everything again so um until honestly it actually hits our bank account um you're not going to count don't account for that it'll be um hopefully on an upcoming board doc soon we've done the fcc emergency connectivity fund we've done school safety grants and right now pending is also a career exploration so in with all these grants they all have different compliance pieces they all have funding applications that we have to complete and then they all have compliance manuals that we have to adhere to okay last but not least korean type of education so korean technological education there is our website right there which is very up to date thank you amy popek for making sure that we are up to date we have 17 career and technical education programs 1045

students participate in our career tech programs now this is an interesting number here we offer 21 career tech electives for grades 8 to 12. we have 3 323 seats so that means many of our students are taking multiple career tech elective courses throughout the day so that is amazing we have 51 instructors but not all of them are just dedicated to career tech some of them we share with um special ed or we share with science programs so they're not all dedicated we have um three amazing access coordinators that i should that i work with with robert huna with that provides a lot of support to our tech teachers and students in making sure that our programs are accessible to all students and that they are successful we have amazing department chairs mary ellen swinger

who's here thank you for parma senior high we have al brandi from parma senior high who's carolyn holbalus from valley forge and then ian chef johnson everyone knows i'm by terry morgan from normandy high school and we're constantly pivoting with um making sure that we're providing the best programming for our students if something changes um where there's more college credits offered from this different course we will pivot our syllabus and we will make sure that we're always offering the most outcomes for our students i promise it's all i'll do on you guys so my roles in careertech are marketing initiatives where i work with um gary and amy thank you gary i manage the management of enrollment and i'm very proud to say we're actually in enrollment right now we're at 100 capacity for all

of our programs with the exception of two but we're at like 96 capacity so we are strong um i work with um hr department on hiring a recruitment of cte staff i do the funding management which is our perkins funding i do all of our compliance reports and perkins cte needs assessments we do the curriculum development and it aligns perfectly with the district playbook we do rewrite and discuss all the programs have syllabus we meet industry standards and ode standards we have i oversee the professional development i talked earlier about our leadership organization we manage the work-based learning of stimulated work environment entrepreneurship internships job placement school-based businesses career speakers field trips to colleges and field trips to industry last page guys continuation so we also have to provide um 12 point all of our

programs provided provide at least 12 point certifications in each of the pathways so are you able i mean your product bill said can you click on the first one industry credentials so if you scroll down these are all of our programs and then these are all the industry credentials that we provide to our students which are free they're covered by current technical education funds and we update these where i mean we will always add new certifications if it um increases the outcomes for our students and those are all available on our careertech website the other link is our college credits every single one of our per tech programs offers college credits and again we will always um change courses um add on things if it provides more college credits for students so those are our

college accredited agreements right there and that is also available on our website so um let beyond the fall we did receive a report card they didn't have letter grades but we did receive some data now keep in mind this was our fy 20 grads so we kind of halted operations in march uh we're very pleased with our outcomes our achievement meaning those students that received a 12-point certification or our um pastor um their web exams which is our end of course exams for per tech and that's how our students get their college credits we had 85 percent which was really good it was a drop of about six percent but considering we stopped operations in march and we were offering programming in the summer you know some students just didn't feel comfortable coming in and

some students were they were seniors they don't every time our graduation rate um 94 for four-year grads 96 for five-year and then our post-program outcomes this is our follow-up surveys that we do six months after graduation ninety-five percent of our students were either in the military they were in college they were working or an apprenticeship and that is my presentation does anybody have any questions i have one good question is there anything that we do not provide our students in this district oh my gosh i mean i'm blown away here and then you realize i taught here and i didn't realize half the stuff was going on that's impressive that it's extremely impressive and what's more impressive is you have such a great people group of people to work with that makes that that whole

department run and god bless you guys that's that's something you should be proud of so kudos to you and we are very very fortunate and we're very fortunate to have you thank you all of you so thank you oh chris and i was going to say great job thank you very much i i just thought you were the person that sat in the finance meetings with us you were so you're very you're very good and your staff's great and i'm proud to be part of it it's exciting it's fun it's great we get excited with all the new changes and we have them provide good it's great things for our students so you know i have long since been on team think the world in the universe that we have kristen plagement at pcsd i

did not realize i was my first you know we have one that's already graduated and the first ones are going into vocational next year i didn't realize that your sphere of influence already touched the other one who left and is you know junior college guy and i thought i understood but not until you see it all i was actually like typing notes as you were going telling like for which one of my kids to reach out to who because it was so informational about things that i didn't even realize we still had and i know my kids know but my kids are kids and you know it doesn't always make it back to us but it is just incredible and to your team they are wonderful um this is a whole balance i still owe

you a pair of scissors to cut off a couple hoodies for children that like to wear them mine not excluded from that um but they uh i just this is i'm going to share a quick story real quick so sunday morning my husband and i went to breakfast at victoria's and my husband leans over the table and goes listen he only touches his ear and i'm like what are you doing the people behind us newly moved to the area and we're raving about our cte like rattling off all the things and they were like a walking billboard for us and i just thought how awesome that was that that was one of their like first warm and fuzzy feelings about what we have to offer for their students and how excited they were for their

kids to be able to take advantage of that so thank you for everything you do thank you well i've known you for a lot of years placement uh through some different things but i didn't know that your umbrella was this big and you have that many halves and always always have heard outstanding things about the careertech programs here in the district and it's you know it's just outstanding and year after year it continues so kudos to you and everybody that's involved because um it's not just a great thing for the district obviously but you're serving kids well you know kids are leaving us with great opportunities for their future with all of that so that's wonderful and i thank all of you for that a couple one question how do kids qualify for or how

do they get admitted to the discovery centers is that open to all children it's all over top students okay so anybody can uh sign up i guess to participate okay great that's i'm happy to hear that and if you had a dream about what new program you might like to bring in for career tech what would that be uh there's a couple that i would um right now currently um normally what's called the woods one and two those are elective courses we've actually they're really manufacturing one two we incorporate some of the old like the old manual tools but we also have 3d printers and we have um you know lathes and we have planers and all kinds of other things i would like to take that and possibly do that into a career tech

program i think that the outcome for students and the job placements are high that would be one i think that we discussed maybe um adding maybe an element um of maybe barber chef or cosmetology that would be another one that would be another one um besides those two i think they were pretty solid in our programming i always compare what we do with our neighbor career centers and throughout ohio and i really don't see us having any gaps in any of our programming for our students great thank you do you have time to sleep it's exciting i mean yeah it's pretty impressive everything that you coordinate me go through good job i mean i'm learning all of this so it's pretty impressive thank you very much so the only thing i would say thank you

and thank you for your presentation and all of your work obviously but when we first reorganized our central office uh three years ago now um knowing a fraction of what kristen was gonna need to do and prepare and she originally started with three administrative specialists and despite all of what you saw today she has actually reduced that each year by well each year by one so she's down to one administrative specialist and the that she's able to accomplish the wealth of work that she does and still be selfless enough to you know say i think we can go down one and every time we're able to reduce costs here that's more that we're able to offer kids in buildings and so i you saw and everybody was oppressed and she's reduced her staff by two

in the last two years which i just think wanted to make sure that was known because that's extremely impressive as well thank you that's incredible just incredible thank you thank you very much thank you thank you thank you can you all stop you're smiling i'm just going to start my standard schools now what if i just redo that yeah sure 45 minutes or so that concludes my report sir all right thank you communications mrs carpenter um i do have a couple things um the first one is i i just want to say um let me read quote first that safety and security don't just happen they are the results of a collective conscious and public investment we are our children the most vulnerable citizens in our society a life free of violence and by nelson

mandela um tonight a lot of our a large population of our community and our students have been directly impacted by the violence in ukraine before i came in today i was watching some of the news coverage and there was kids huddled in a subway and i the image alone was startling enough for me as a mom and reading and hearing them report that you know some of these parents had put bracelets on their kids um like when you go into a concert those little sticky ones with their blood types on them and things like that and this whole thing hit me alone so as the news coverage continued um they had kind of pulled back to show what was above the subway station and the historic buildings that were up there and it really caught

me off guard because just this summer um a pcsd family was there and i have a picture that they sent me of their two boys smiling and standing in front of one of these buildings and i thought how they had gone back to see their grandparents and to realize how close to home it's hitting for so many of our community tonight um that i would just take a minute when you you know that we have members of our community stop in and patronize their businesses and just check them and be a good neighbor to them and make sure that they know that we're here for them even though the violence isn't here on our shores and in their backyards we know that their families are being very much so impacted by it so um that

right is okay all right uh i do have one thing to say too is about uh saint anthony's fire the other day uh and i thank you for reaching out to the principal i don't know if there was received well or if you've done but i know there's some people uh out on social media trying to get school supplies for these kids because i've lost excuse me i lost everything on fire so if you see it or i think we posted it on our staff on our website it says believe so it's and it's at heights library library so yeah absolutely saturday just wanted to remind you to tell that that was uh something that needs to be happening you know here in our district so we look forward you know happy to help uh

see anthony's or any place that would be kind of distraught like that so that's it absolutely it's communications yeah okay i i'm just gonna mention um yesterday's chamber of commerce uh state of the schools luncheon that we had here that the school district hosted uh upstairs in the red reefs room and mr vaughn mr christ were there also and we had an opportunity to be live in person and chamber of commerce hasn't had very much at all the last couple of years so it was great to be able to connect with many community leaders there were a lot of elected officials there business folks and other members of chamber and dr zweil did his state of the schools presentation which is wonderful and a lot of the things that you see regularly at board meetings

was presented but i just have to mention how much i appreciated how you closed up the presentation and really reached out and asked for partnership with all the people in the room to understand the importance of the building of the future initiative that we're working on right now and how we need them to partner with us in in this effort to help the community understand why new buildings are important to promise schools and how they can be influential and important in the process of us sharing that message with our community so it was a really nice opportunity the chamber is a good partner to parma city schools and i'm really happy to see that revived kind of after what we've been through the last couple of years thank you thank you i wanted to say

something um i'm going to try to say this because i'm by keeping it somewhat private our family was affected by something that happened you know in our district recently and i talked to charlie about it he asked if the school knew what happened and i said no and not yet and he had reached out to the school and i was just amazed at the outpouring from the teachers and the staff and the principal on how they all came together and collected goods and clothes for the family that was affected by it it was it was really it was kind of awe inspiring at how quickly and how generous everybody at the they know who they are and i don't want us because i don't want to give up the uh identities of the kids but

they know who they are and i just thank you to everyone that did that that meant a lot to those kids more than you more than you realized so i just wanted to say thank that was amazing yeah we're full of great people in this video i was just gonna say that's another facet of the that we have the best staff we sure do oh all right greetings from farmer council ptas my name is monica abbott not really and i am the first vice president for pcpta also not really council held our very first and successful family health and safety fair this past weekend families from all over the district were able to gather and receive free information and resources from many community partners as well as programs within our district thank you to everyone

communications for the evening uh do you have any amendments today which we have done yeah so um let me talk about it just a second so i moved to top resolution 2022-02-45 adoption of amendments second we have an emotion and a second to adopt resolution 2022-025 no hero 2-4-5 are any questions or comments from the board it is um going to be we're going to see it under unfinished business we're actually pulling back out of the policies policy 2465 suspension expulsion of disabled students is being removed um it was not finished going through the full review and illegal all that kind of stuff so we would like to move ahead with the rest of those but pull that back so that can have the due diligence it deserves excellent anybody else any questions oh roll

total unknown okay but as always i don't have any control over this i know that i might have no i'm just going to ask you i'm just channeling john tennerovich and asking you you have anything right out of your head yeah i think i'm doing a little bit okay yes yes this is broads yes mr ruta yes mr vaughn yes resolution 2022-02-56 has been approved like to make a motion to adopt resolution 2022-02-57 acceptance of contributions and donations second we have motion at second adopt resolution 2022-02-57 any questions or comments from the board um just that this is the coolest thing ever yeah i was just reading that that is uh the guys with ty's group i think that's awesome i don't know if you've ever seen that before anywhere i've seen that and it

this evening thank you mr price smooth altitude of the legislation mrs carpenter i do have something um so the as of when i looked this afternoon it still wasn't open for slated for a vote or testimony but house bill 327 there was some movement with it with some sub-bill language that was put in essentially house bill 327 prohibits the teaching advocacy promotion of divisive concepts what is particularly concerning about this bill is that there is failure to outline what divisive concepts would be who would be in charge of outlining what those concepts would be um and the danger particularly at this bill is that teachers and superintendents licenses are in jeopardy based on findings used under this what would be you know hopefully not that i hope but it is proposed to become a law

without any of those things in place so it is very dangerous if the opportunity comes up to submit testimony or that i'll be sure to let everybody know and uh but keep everybody keep an eye on it and just not good for ultimately it's one of those things that's not good for kids in the long run anybody has anything else i don't think so this concludes that includes legislation thank you uh human resources thank you mr vaughn i moved to adapt resolution 2022 0258 approval following certificated exhibits confirmation of certificated replacement confirmation of stipend amounts confirmation of supplemental appointments confirmation of change and certificated assignments for the 2021-2022 school year approval of certificated non-compensated leaves of absence acceptance of certificated resignation second we have a motion a second to adopt resolution 2022-202-58 any questions or

comments from the board cnn girl called mr musso mr brads yes this is corpus yes mr christ yes mr rudolph yes mr vaughn yes resolution 2022-02-58 has been approved i moved for the adoption of resolution 2022-0259 acceptance of certificated retirement second we have a motion and a second to adopt resolution 2022-02-59 any questions or comments from the board i would just like to say that the valley forge student body will be a piece we'll be missing with the counselor um leaving like this obviously we're going to put a new one in but it's hard to feel she's retiring yes retiring it's hard to fill certain people's shoes but we have to move on sometimes yes anybody else of course collins mr lucio rocco mrs brads yes this is carpus yes mr christ yes mr rudolph

yes mr bond yes resolution 2022-02-59 been approved i move for the adoption of resolution revision of the cluster chair job description and adoption of revised job descriptions second we have a motion and a second adopt resolution 2022-02-60 any questions or comments from the board did you want to comment on that see why yeah this is uh consistent with actually the last board meeting where we're really looking at department chairs and sort of you know i think i compared them to department clerks in the last meeting looking into some more leadership responsibilities these are specific to art music and physical education and so at each high school they work with middle school and elementary schools so that there is somewhat of a continuous feeder program they're in that pipeline and you know we needed to create

a job description that really more aligned with some of the leadership tasks we're asking them to do thank you royal columnist mr spratts yes this is karpis yes mr christ yes mr rudow yes mr bong yes resolution 2022-02-6-0 has been approved i move for the adoption of resolution 2022-0261 creation of girls head wrestling coach position and adoption of job description second we have a motion a second to adopt resolution 2022.02.61 any questions or comments from the board comment on this one as well this actually came to me last year just the timing really wasn't right in terms of when the supplemental committee was was meeting but we've had a growing number of girls express interest in wrestling it has been a growing sport really statewide we have been very lucky to have coaches at pharma

senior high who work with the boys program be willing to spend time with the girls there have been six different tournaments actually four girls we have six different girls who have wrestled in those tournaments we believe the creation of a specific coach will actually grow that number and so that will be a place for next year it really is a growing sport in ohio and we're happy and proud to be a part of that and it's actually growing nationally so it's already have a new uh cuddle in college has a girls women's team and they compete all over the place so it's it's been around for it's a long time coming i think yes i'm i'm actually kind of proud of this good very good i have a little interest in this attack that's too

bad uh it wasn't around when katie was your candy butter wrestled not for sure it's too bad you can't take a supplemental firm unless either because it's a conflict of interest otherwise we've got our coach already picked out yeah all right so let's see anything else uh roll call mr lucille mr bratz yes this is karpis yes mr christ yes sir yes sir yes resolution 2022.02 has been approved i move to adapt resolution 20 22.0262 creation of a system coach position and adoption of job description second you have a motion in a second adopt resolution 2022-02-6 to any questions or comments from the board yeah i could comment on this one as well we didn't want to have to come to you each time a sport reached a certain threshold of numbers going out for

that sport to get another job like an assistant tennis coach that we now need it's great that we have enough tennis players at normandy to warrant an assistant that's a great problem to have right so instead of you know having to create an assist in each one of those times this is a blanket assistant coach job description that'll allow us to tell you when numbers will work and i was going to ask if it wasn't a description of what where it went to so right so it's a general that's very good very good excellent anybody else of course uh roll call mission mrs rats yes this is carpet yes mr christ yes mr rudolph yes sir yes resolution 2022.0262 has been approved i moved for the adoption of resolution 2022-0263 creation of model united nations

advisor position and adoption of job description second we have a motion and a second to adopt resolution 2022-02-63 any questions or comments from the board do you want to comment on that one mrs kravis i am just so this really was a student effort um a specific teacher at valley forge used to work with this program and had been telling all the kids about what they had used what they used to do what you used to do and wouldn't you know my kid was one of them and so he was like mom why don't we do this this was a couple years ago so last year it doesn't take us two years okay last year two school years but we got it done so we can bring it back because it's such an amazing opportunity

for kids and so it's it's really it's going to give them the critical thinking that they need and especially in today's political climate let's get them learning and using their own brain so i'm super excited about this can i also comment because obviously there's you know there's ads i mentioned the varsity tennis coach it's a girls wrestling program it's a united nations position so we have esther money that is specifically earmarked for additional student opportunity and so that's what we're using now we understand that extra money is not infinite there's a time you know lapse to that and we will you know envision that we may have to triage but there's so many different variables there's potential consolidation that goes along with that so we just we want the public to understand we're not blindly

spending this large increase in money and thinking we can maintain this forever we do have a pot of money specifically earmarked for that and then quite frankly when that money's gone we're making hard decisions anyway about the futures of our buildings and campuses so it is not with a blind eye that we're adding these i'm really excited about it too i one of my kids did it at college we didn't have the opportunity here in high school he was involved in college very deeply and and they did work with some high schools that had some of it already so i'm thrilled to see it coming here because i think it's a great learning opportunity for kids and all right great anybody else roll call mr newsome mr pratt's yes this is kirkus yes mr christ

the top she's about nikki and i also know she's leaving april first so what's up with that yeah who's gonna be letting me into normandy when i go up there you did a much better job articulating the vacancy created when we lose wonderful people to retirement but it's great that they're going but it's got a little tongue tied last time so i'm glad you were able to articulate it better than i did well it's always hard to see these people that have dedicated their careers to the parma city school district and see them you know we're thrilled for them to move into retirement and wish them every good thing as they move forward but boy they're going to be missed your roll call mission this year this is rats yes this is karpis yes surprise

steps on those um i will opt out of any unless you need me i will be thrilled to do them however i do many other scholarships and since there are any of them well there are there are five of us and there are three schools so i will step back because i i'm gonna see all the applications that each of you are going to see because i do them for the foundation for community scholarship for pta and a couple of others so i will happily be deeply involved in that but i would like everybody else to have the opportunity yeah do you have a preference what's what's left well karma or none you could do pharmacy in your anonymity we'll figure it out okay so let me go thank you i forget that you're involved
