all right good evening it is uh 6 30 p.m this is the olympic school board uh board of education it's a regular meeting today is june 9th it's it's 6 30 p.m i'd like to call the meeting to order ms hatfield would you please call the roll dr dabrico present mr lester here mr o'brien yes uh here mrs patrick here and dr weiss here thank you all right can everyone please stand and join me in the pledge of allegiance i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all all right um [Music] can i have a motion to approve the agenda as written we have no amendments that's correct sir okay so i moved
second please second all right any discussion on the agenda all right see none please call the roll mr lester yes dr weiss yes dr dabico yes mrs patrick yes and mr o'brien yes thank you all right so we have the uh the board presence report so a couple things um so one this is uh mindy's last meeting so we want to thank mindy for your years of service and contributions to the district and i do think um the comments she made at our last meeting were very um uh very well done very thankful so i appreciate that very much so if anyone else wants to say anything for mindy before we go we'll move on next thing and open the floor to my other board members jostler i think that's a no i'd be glad
to start okay listen i think um mr rafe always tells me i start by saying listen we are blessed as a community because we have folks that are willing to step up that's what makes us a special community i am so thankful that i got to know you and work with you and learn from you i am thankful that you were advocating for reading long before i even moved here so thank you for what you do i'm going to miss you and i hope you stay in touch because i will need your advice your counsel and um just thank you for putting yourself out there it's impossible to be in this position with um with thin skin so thank you for doing it my pleasure okay well i am very very thankful to be able
to work alongside you um i met many way back with olentini dyslexia network good so um we both have dyslexic children so i'm definitely going to miss you and i truly am grateful for the service that you've done for our community well you know mindy and i haven't had a chance to work together for too long just a few months i hope it's not because i joined the board but as i was running last fall mindy was the first board member that i talked to we worked a liberty high school game together we did and i spent about an hour together just talking as we were like shuffling out food left and right and it was just so evident to me in that just how much you care and as we've gotten to work together
and i mean this is a hard job and there's a lot of really difficult things that you have to to look at and really emotionally pulling things but just the the amount of care and attention and love you've put into this district it's just it's really powerful and it's a wonderful thing to see and we will miss that dearly and i hope that um you continue to bring that to education um and to bring it to the community as we're going forward but we've just been so lucky so lucky thank you it's easy when you get to work with great people so thanks everybody for making my job easier it was a pleasure okay great so if we can go to the next slide so i just want to um go you know update the
community on as we talked about last time mindy has resigned voluntary resignation well make sure we get the word because i'm moving because she's moving outside the district that will be effective this evening at midnight tonight and so it qualifies as a reason for a vacancy uh next slide please so timing-wise we're taking advantage of this we took advantage of the 10-day window between the last meeting and this meeting we did receive 27 28 applications of folks that are interested i i will say this i think it's interesting the last time we did this in 2014 we received 75 applications so the fact that we put out an application or an opportunity for the community to participate in the board and we roughly got a third of we got a of interest of what we
received in the past i think it's very indicative of the environment um that we're living in in terms of the board um and i would have hoped that we would have got more now with that said as i look at the the group that that has put their name forward it's a great group of people with great experiences great backgrounds that are willing to step up in an environment that's very challenging and so i appreciate every single one of those people that has applied and we've got anything from educators to lawyers to finance people to health care professionals we've got a broad spectrum of folks that will have the chance to get to know better and make a good selection on who the next board member is so i'm very appreciative of the community but
somewhat concerned about the future of the board in that the willingness of the community to step forward has somewhat diminished i think due to the environment again 75 people in 2014 down to 27 this year so i think it's just something to be aware of and look out for and make sure we all work together to make sure that we've got sufficient support in the community to move the board forward on a sustainable basis so um so with that so the process tonight is we're going to take those 27 28 folks we'll go to executive session if they have a meeting deliberate cut that down to a list of finalists that we will bring in for interviews between um tonight and uh june 19th which would again put us within in the time frame allowed
to us within the orc and then we'll we'll have to have a special meeting in between now and then a date that we will set uh private later tonight uh to have those interviews come in and then from there um between the 19th and 23rd we'll make we'll decide as a board uh who we choose and and how we make that appointment but at a minute you know at the longest time frame we would um appoint someone to have them sworn in at the june 23rd meeting that's where we are uh in terms of filling mindy's vacancy okay so that's all i had for the board presence report we'll now move into the presentation item which is jeff gordon our director of business management facilities on a on the building projects update good evening one
of my favorite uh presentations i'm exceeded by the one when i come back later and show you what the end of the projects look like so again another another busy summer i'll start off first with just a quick update on on the middle school is a reminder uh the pond storm pond in the front then parking lot back into the front of the building moving from east to west and it's going to be important as we go through our next couple slides just want to reorient you with how the building from the site is laid out with the baseball fields at the far west of the property with berlin high school on the north so this is looking at it from the front of the building again from the east looking west real quick this
is where we are at about september of last year this is february of this year and then this is about a month ago where we were at along with the quick video here dustin if you could start that for me please give you a drone view i think it's gone it is see the waves in the water moving is that guy going to wave at us you see them all all working along don't even see the drone what's moving oh that would be somebody so that low roof there is over wow [Music] at the top to the far the baseball field at the back and the roofing is is now on i presented the saudis committee a couple weeks ago about where we're at with the roofing and finally getting that on we did have
a delay with getting roofing insulation so that went on later than we would have hoped but now that that's on we're able to dry in the building and and keep moving forward with that so that is our status there we're on schedule and working through some issues some delays some equipment but right now nothing that's going to delay us with our construction schedule next project we have here is we are we had four playgrounds we wanted to get through the bond funding and make sure we did the big playgrounds last year so we had four kindergarten pre-k playgrounds that are at the four older elementaries off of what was the kindergarten preschool wing so we're going to go ahead this year we're going to see the soft the rendering on the right that's the uh
play structure that's going to go in along with soft surface and then a new swing set so the older on the left is one of our older playgrounds you can see it's rather beat up and worn with the gravel on it so we're going to do that at those four elementary schools and then we have collaboration spaces at the high schools we are going to liberty high school this year two spaces in the academic wing second floor that's those are going to go in the same location as when we built berlin high school we put those in and that was the old what had been the computer lab in the original high schools we took out the walls and opened that up we built berlin so this is the first that liberty will do that
in two spaces and the picture is only tangy high school so when you walk in what was the old main entrance just to the left of the athletic entrance they have a student a senior patio now where they've opened that up in the front we've done some work in front of the building now when you walk in those doors you're going to walk in and that area is going to be open with soft seating and all the same type of structures for furniture that we're putting in at liberty and at olint energy high school similar to the collaboration spaces i described it at berlin high school so moving forward with those projects at those two buildings this summer as well as we are updating our 15 elementary school media centers and these are this one
here shell meadows and that's what we're working towards have a presentation wall where you see the three monitors the touch screen in the middle with the soft seating mobile seating and we'll refresh those areas and as part of doing that if your unless your kids went through some one of the two different elementary styles one had a pit we're going to fill the pit to create the space to level that out and where we had to raise the risers we're going to take those risers and that wall out to make to create the presentation space to look a lot like what you see here uh administrative office renovations you see that is underway we're computing converting what had been cubicle spaces to 20 enclosed offices and replacing the carpet and putting carpet and vinyl tile
in the offices when we bought this building it was a cubicle farm we didn't put a lot of time into it we had a short window to move in so now we've gone back and and we had some of the money in the bond to do some renovations now we're going back and doing some of that and moving some of those people that went from offices to cubicles back into offices and that's just a quick view of the floor plan the yellow highlights are the offices we're adding 20 different spaces they're 18 there and two downstairs on the first floor here our district-wide asphalt work a couple areas of note is the east transportation center several school buildings getting all or part of their schools done hyatt's middle school i just want to mention that
we had the project last year we put in that bus lane our contractor went out of business before finishing up our project so we had to lay the bus laying in but a lot of the landscaping signage and things didn't get put up and we've been working through a process to get that done so we'll finish that up as well as do the front of hyatts and bring that asphalt up against the parking lot in the existing road prior to the bus lane that will all be brought back together and then we'll finish up all that landscaping that didn't get finished last year when our our contractor left us then we are doing the administrative office as well and three playgrounds so we can start getting those playgrounds and working through those try to do
about three a year to keep the playgrounds as they start to move and we start getting cracks we patch and do some things but we want to keep that safe for the kids running around as well so we'll continue with those uh big pride i'm sorry so on the contractor that kind of failed to deliver do we have we had a surety bond to make sure that we did have government and we were still holding 50 000 from his contract and the work that um if the work to finish up exceeds the 50 which i don't think it will then we'll go back on the bond so we've been working with the bond on that yeah and working with our legal counsel to make sure we can do that they have advised us to go
ahead and keep that money that we will hold finish the work and then submit anything that's remaining good thank you the west transportation center one of the items on the bond was to expand the bus parking over there we couple years ago we added expanded the restroom area and that that bus in that center the east transportation center had a little bit bigger restrooms has more parking so as the districts continue to grow and add buses we want to make sure that we've expanded and are ready for additional buses in the future so we're going to add 15 i'm sorry 25 parking spaces for buses here as well as correlating 25 parking spaces in the car parking to account for the extra bus drivers and traffic in that area again that was part of the
bond in 2020 other miscellaneous projects were in the middle of starting the planning for elementary school 17. we talked quite a bit about this facilities committee last couple meetings we are planning to go out to bid for the building sometime in late summer early fall to try to get ahead of some of those scheduled delay issues we're dealing with now with equipment and different items that we can bid out the building portion get those on order so that we we take care of the lead time issue and then we'll do a separate uh package for the site once that is prepared so that we can separate those out and go and get that equipment order so shell meadows elementary school we had some hallway flooring that we're going to replace that was under warranty uh
liberty high school we're doing some wall repair we've had some water coming in over there we did quite a bit of roof repair at liberty last year and now we're addressing some of the wall issues that we're finding uh orange high school press box roof you approve that at last board meeting uh tennis court resurfacing at owen t ng liberty high schools that's part of our standard see their tracks tennis courts are both a lot of summers then the roof replacement the olympia academy which is the original shingle roof and then miscellaneous hvac projects where you've the board you've approved the chill or purchase of tyler run rooftop units at old tng high school and then the projects that are smaller the domestic hot water change outs that we buy the equipment and our staff
is able to change out themselves one thing of note that you'll see at the july board meeting because we're going to also trying to stay ahead of the supply chain issues we'll be bringing the purchase of the chiller for oak creek that we plan to put in next winter or uh summer depending on when we get that in so we'll continue to try to order those things ahead of time and not not get caught with the the supply chain issues and that is uh our projects for the summer any questions and this is all um all covered by the pi levy right so this is all the bond multi-year plan that we're doing with the permanent permanent improvement level yeah we will we will wrap up the bond projects other than the money that was
um allotted for hvac and roofing those in buses those will carry on for a couple more years the way that we've broken that up then so the bond projects are finished this year with the pi pi fund so this these projects are a mix of both but um we'll continue to work down through those bond projects and then continues to mpi to maintain great mr yeah mr gordon can you dustin can you go back to the slide with the um bus parking yes so to the left that's where the new development's going yes that development is in so how do the kit because it would be super easy for them because it goes right up to that fence right yes so how do they get to school because i'm assuming they're going to walk right
the development has put um they put pathways in coming back to the schools to we the schottenstein we worked with them when they were planning the development before they sold to the builders but there's pathways that are coming north to south that lead back to indian springs elementary school and then by the tennis courts and practice fields at liberty high school they've got a pathway that's going to come in and connect to liberty high school from there as well for the kids to walk around are those sidewalks or those wider multi-use trails i think it's a mix of both in in the development portion i think it's going to be sidewalks but then when they come onto school property they're going to be asphalt pathways that are a little bit wider and we have uh
where the transportation garage or bus is we have fence there um some fencing around the baseball fields and then along the stadium is fenced in as well so so it's easier to walk the path than it would be to well depending on which part you're coming from when we talked with schottenstein one of the big things they talked about was the area backed by the buses is a lot of the condos apartments where they don't where we don't typically get a high yield and further south where the the walkways are or where the houses are where we have higher yields and more kids coming in and and you anticipate that i know this is off this but you anticipate that path on home road to be ready by time school starts as well well i
have not talked with the county on update they've started it they've been working putting infrastructure in a lot of the the um they did some water and maybe some gas lines or things i could be getting mixed up i know they did water came if there's a gas line we're doing the same projects at berlin high school but they want to get those in before they put that path down so that it's under because it's in the county right away so those pathways are in the there as well so they have to get those in and then over top so i do not have an update when they expect to finish last i heard they expected to have it in the summer i'm just thinking about kids walking along that home road yeah is that
expanding all the way down the pathway yeah that is going down to the new library branch that they're building to the to the west on the south side of home road um we're working through that connector with opel um in a separate life so yeah it's the horsepower farms and one resident to connect this iota glen and then they would go up to where they'd cross the street in front of our neighborhood so we'll get there but i'm just just sooner the better yeah i agree work with berlin township around berlin high school berlin middle school in cheshire they had made some requests and while we were already there working um on paths and asphalt and made some modifications to add some safe passages yeah in the pathways they're putting in the gravels in the
pathways from berlin high school down across the new middle school uh connecting to the sidewalk so that was that portion of it's in the pathway around um cheshire elementary that's not in yet because that was an ad to the projects we're working through trying to get the best pricing for putting those pathways in uh we also with cheshire where that path is so we we have pathways that come down because there's a sidewalk that connects to cheshire you can cross the road but we're going to go ahead and put the bike path then around the baseball fields at cheshire and turn and go south and connect to the developers pathway but we did when we granted an easement to the developer to the south of cheshire we negotiated for them to put a pathway from
that development into the back of the elementary school so that we were able to get kids in quicker and safer so they aren't they don't have to go out by the roadway to get there they can cut through the development of the pathway that'll come in on the south side of cheshire and be able to come in the playground and come in walk around and come in the door without crossing buses without going out by the roadway so back to that library opens in the fall kids are going to go there after school the field oh there's the field in the north there one more the drawing i'm sorry that one what's the what is that between the baseball fields in the stadium that is the practice field practice building okay yeah practice uh flat
space each regular grass just regular grass each middle school has one okay one practice field like that uh berkshire has two because um when they built berkshire they had a space for future elementary school that as we get enrollment over there we could build and a lot of the youth organizations and even some of the middle school sports have taken that over as well so they have it they appear to have a little bit more there but because it's a future building site okay is that a does the marching band for the high school will they use that too or do they have a separate space the high school has a separate space there's um four fields no five fields at the high school uh two you can see up they're just above the bases
yeah just above the baseball there's two there and then as you come over to the parking lot three follow the band practice field is the one closest to berlin station road okay and they have their own their own space all right anything else mr gordon no thank you jeff you're welcome next up is uh item seven the superintendent's report it's a good thing i even with a even with a bum bum wing i can still use a clicker so uh good evening good evening everyone welcome thanks everybody for coming out i always love to have people in attendance so i'm going to start with um a slide on our um fair school funding summit and when i gave the introductory uh introduction to that we said this was the first time in the state of
ohio something like this has been done so obviously i see a list of people pat t berry was a keynote speaker he is a former u.s rep and an old tangy parent speaker of the house bob cup uh former state rep rick carfany and john patterson had a great panel discussion with representative jessica miranda from down here cincinnati era akron city schools treasurer um ryan pendleton and um tom hossler is the superintendent up in perrysburg and mr dabraco so i'll turn it over to him i would give you he this was his idea when we came when we actually started in january so i'd give him a minute to talk about it if you would for full transparency i was supposed to give him time in my presence report i forgot to i was just
trying to say that i thought if i put my chair up higher no it's no worries listen it was a collaborative effort it was a team i better read from my notes because i'll go too long i'll skip over what you already highlighted for school funding folks it was really the hall of fame of school funding folks bill phillis jim betts these are people that have for 40 years have really made a difference for school funding so for our efforts historically olin kanji gets less than a non-public school which means in the past 20 years our share has gone down in real dollars about 50 percent while private school share has doubled about 225 percent higher than it was 20 years ago so that's why we have this fair funding summit um the first phase
was implemented last state budget we have two more phases speaker cup was very clear that we cannot do this piecemeal they've got to bring it fund it the way that's been designed olentangy has over 50 million dollars on the line and for decades our our taxpayers have paid what i would argue is an unfair share 94 cents on the dollar for what we're doing to educate our kids and the state's less than a nickel all of the legislators emphasize the importance of relationships and communicating with them and that's our job to um to lead that effort because we have the most at stake if folks want to join that effort they can certainly email or call me i'd be glad to put them in front of a legislator to to tell them why fair funding
is important listen one more comment mr rafe um i always forget the thank you part first of all mr o'brien very supportive from the first time i brought that to you the entire board was supportive of the notion of leading this effort so thank you um my colleague to the right was present and um i saw her and mr lester thank you mr lester also moderated an afternoon breakout session thank you mr rafe for indulging me for the last six months as we planned this it was a lot of work miss hatfield unbelievable getting so many folks there the the school funding folks had only a handful of people know about but they've it's a big deal um mr meyer of course dr fetty for moderating an afternoon session but krista davis um unbelievable on
top of their normal work to to plan this it was it was a lot and they did it after school hours so i could be there so thank you and amanda thank you for your hard work i'm looking at the wrong people because i got my glasses on so thank you to everyone for putting on tangi at the center of the fair funding discussion that's where we belong and we're going to lead the way to make sure that this gets done at some point i do want to make as part of your presentation for something for zoolin tangy but i'll wait for your acknowledgement for that thank you mr rafe so i just had one question on yes or no answer senator brenner and representative jordan did they attend they uh did rsvp that they
would but they did have a conflict at the last minute and we're not able to attend no let me rephrase that no no i'm sorry i i i heard your question and didn't answer it i apologize i uh and uh the uh the entire communications team did a great job with you know you mentioned uh christina chris obviously in and amanda and betsy and heather and adam and they all really just went above and beyond it was amazing um i'm not surprised because they always do such great work but it was just such a first class presentation the all the the written materials all the materials that were presented all the the digital materials um the invitations just everything from from start to finish was was incredible so i should say that um state representative
sean stevens was there so we appreciate him taking time to do that as our only representative that was present for a fair funding conference yeah he shawn's the one who replaced rick garfina so and for full transparency at the end of the day when i when i was thanking everybody for being there i thanked kevin and brandon who were still there dr wise had stepped out for a minute i thought she'd left for the day didn't mention her and i've been paying the price ever so all good and i guess i could have gone to got a clip on ty so i could be presentable tonight but i didn't do that either so let's go on to something better like olentangy kindergarten registration is well underway we are starting to welcome and it just pains
me to say this but the class of 2035. oh geez yeah so um it's just it's obviously very very exciting times uh for those families that are registering their kids for kindergarten obviously it's the first ones even more so so we'll be ready for them give a shout out to amy ruff and her liberty middle school seventh grade choir they went down and performed memorial day governor want governor dewine's wreath laying ceremony so um thank you to um amy and her team or her kids for doing that as always our curriculum team put on a great think tank conference it was a single day focused on creating lack relaxed and engaging environments where teachers are exposed to compelling class ideas they really did a phenomenal job we had about 300 teachers there all throughout the
day the keynote speaker was a gentleman named warren berger and he authored a book called a more beautiful question and he speaks about encouraging questioning in the classroom and how it promotes our students to learn to be purposeful resilient curious and kind so that's a it's just been they've just done a great job with think tank year year after year um i won't i i did speak last time a little bit about mrs patrick but i want to make sure i do this informal formally you know having had the privilege to work with her for um almost the entirety of my time as superintendent um she was elected to the board in 2015 and she doesn't give herself enough credit for being a truly exceptional leader and a champion for uh our students and our
staff um she attributes her volunteerism at old tangy to her son mason but she was involved with the schools in the classrooms as soon as her family came to olin tangi right from the jump she got right into it she is a true advocate for all children but especially in the area of literacy and special education she co-founded the dyslexia owned tangy dyslexia network and um has championed that uh work throughout the state so literally every child in the state who is a child with dyslexia is going to benefit from her work in the future because other districts are now be compelled to do a lot of the work that we've been doing here for years and years and years so she's involved with the career center participate in selecting the new superintendent um and
i know i'm speaking for our entire leadership team and and elaine eddy who's here as the ota president um you know she's just been a constant support and she is just constantly so appreciative of of our work and she's just had such compassion for the difficult we work we do but she's also really also set very high expectations and standards for everyone in the organization that you know it's not just you know makes it easy so thank you thank you thank you for your service you will be missed the communications team [Applause] and i have to read it mindy otherwise i would have cried and kevin would make fun of me about that later on not kevin nothing yeah you did make it through jeff's presentation with an asphalt comments all right we have some
action items to highlight we have three assists three administrators who are leaving their roles as administrators to become um math coaches uh bridget mcmillan has been very successful at arrowhead elementary school as a principal so we're working through that process and kevin paulfer and sarah swanton um and and really it's more of a it's just kind of a life balance decision those people are making they're they're all very effective administrators so um wish them well in those new roles we have a retirement uh deb campbell's leaving uh is this a clerk at walnut creek elementary school so we wish deb well in her her retirement we do have one administrative employment and that is audrey amman who is going to be one of our social workers we'll have a quite a few on the next
agenda as we finish up the processes at arrowhead and a lot of the elementary schools that still have to hire assistant principals and then finally our important dates we have a classified interview day hr does a good job of constantly trying to keep that pipeline full of our classified staff we have so many so many jobs in those areas and then our next board meeting is well i actually will have a special meeting before the next board meeting yeah that's gonna say we will have a board meeting prior to june 23rd we'll get that announced and posted appropriately we'll decide that date probably the next couple days um but there will be an intro meeting between now and 23rd and then let's talk about dates you want to talk about zola tangi yeah listen i
will be quick and i won't say listen again so tuesday evening oef mate met in a regular meeting olentangy education foundation um it was it was hard because we're talking about the work you do mrs patrick um they're going to announce a grant that they've done that is life-changing for um our kids with unique learning needs and um it's pretty awesome they'll talk about it later i just want to announce the date it's august 13th for zulu and tangy um thank you dr wallach for the um chair for planning for zulu and tangie did i say that right um if you're if you don't have your tickets yet i don't even know if there's going to be tickets left within a week or two we have less than a third of the tickets left and
they've only been available for a week and ticket prices go up until august 1st and if you want to get your tickets go to education olentangyeducationfoundation.org thank you mr o'brien thank you anything else for mr race nope all right so we have the treasure report miss hatfield i'll leave you the option to do it seated at the podium it's your choice thank you i will stay seated um this evening i apologize i don't have um extra slides but i want to first echo the sentiments to mrs patrick it's been an absolute joy to work with you you will be missed um and i will stop there because yeah we we don't want to tear but truly it's been a joy working with you um we are in our department working through fiscal year end so
fiscal year end we'll have to close the books june 30th we're also working through salary notices for staff and um uploading and processing new contracts for staff making sure everything is ready for next school year so our team is really busy at this point but doing well i'm very proud of the work that they're getting done being remote and working around the construction schedule so thank you to all of the treasury team for working so hard to make that happen and then finally we will close the bond sale on the 15th which means we will actually have the proceeds in the bank we will place those funds with red tree investment group so as per orc we are allowed to invest idle funds to make sure that we are getting as much interest as possible
even though rates are a fraction of a percent right now we'll do what we can to take advantage of what's available to us by law and those funds then will be available for the construction of elementary 17 as we move forward are there any questions i can answer for you about our department questions though thank you all right we'll go into public participation um yes please we have two public participation submissions um we have miss danielle hayden if you would please come to the podium and state your name and address for the record and then i will start the timer for your three minutes sure hi my name is danielle hayden i reside at 5963 gainey court i spoke at my first board meeting january 28 2016 regarding teacher evaluations then again june 11 2020
and then last october 12 2021 june 11 2020 i notified the board regarding a missing teacher evaluation which is a requirement and the responsibility of our superintendent under board docs 1230 which is to ensure all aspects of district operation comply with state laws and regulations as well as board contracts and policies two weeks later june 25 2020 the board approves a salary increase for the superintendent who did not fulfill one of his duties not only that the board under then president mr o'brien chose not to complete a written evaluation ignoring the brought the information brought forward the following year ms patrick who was president chose not to complete the evaluation to inc or to include the mistakes that were made so by doing so and the lack of acknowledging of these mistakes from both board
members can look like a cover-up i tell you this because on 4-7 2022 that's april 7th under ohio department of education educator conduct an olympia teacher engaged in conduct on becoming to the teaching profession when he falsified intentionally misrepresented willfully omitted and or was negligent in reporting information regarding the evaluation of students that's state id oh 310 9381 when you look at the district's report card and this is why i'm telling you when you look at the progress report and this is online in 2019 before covid seventh graders were in the red in math because they made less progress than expected 2021 8th grade math students were in the red when you have a middle school math teacher who hasn't had a written evaluation in four years who didn't enter test grades before quarter end
because the grades were too low a principal who did not complete multiple teacher evaluations one being this math teacher and an administration that did not have a plan in place to verify teacher evaluations were documented and a school board who looked the other way when given these mistakes that were made how do you look the 22 000 plus students in the eye and their parents and tell them we're going to maximize the learning for every student that is our mission statement so to the board members and to the soon to to the incoming board member to replace ms patrick you do have a job i want to see under the board docs that you will complete an annual written evaluation of our superintendent by a deadline that includes strengths and weaknesses and to this administration
i will continue to advocate for transparent annual written evaluations for all these are individuals in fact working with our kids so many other professions have yearly documented evaluations and they don't work with kids that's time i have a little bit more good finish thank you you see when you have a principal who's marked with a written reprimand and she's marked accomplished the highest rating it takes away your credibility to be fair and impartial if you truly believe in your mission statement and being transparent this administration will do the written work and provide the feedback that i've so many times have heard on on evaluations because if you do that the kids will benefit which is why i'm assuming we're all here tonight to help these kids succeed in life thank you and thank you for
letting me finish thank you okay next we have one more um forgive me i can't i'm not quite sure your first name is it robin ah awesome if you would please state your name and address for the record and then i will start your three minutes absolutely thank you good evening my name is robin hooves i'm at 8553 pawn view lane okay thank you um good evening i am here as a concerned parent about the gender ideology movement happening in our district my concern is with the lack of transparency both in the curriculum being taught and the new processes and procedures happening in our school buildings i realize the topic is a challenging one but there needs to be mutual respect for all students as change happens and parents need to be informed when previous
social norms are changed inside our school buildings so they can be prepared for the unique questions that their kids come home with i encourage all of you and all the parents of school aged children's to watch matt walsh's recent documentary titled what is a woman it's available on the daily wire this is one in-depth perspective on the gender ideology movement happening today and i ask for greater transparency in all of our school buildings thank you thank you that was the last public participation tip okay excuse me so the next item is item 10 discussion item mr meyer for um the intent to re-hire a retired principal yes uh good evening so again this discussion item uh is on the agenda tonight for uh the intent to retire rehire principal uh mrs katon from liberty tree
elementary school um as the board knows you guys accepted her resignation for the purposes of retirement on april 14th which was effective may 31st as a requirement mrs katon must sit out 60 full days once retired from olentangy as far as another procedural requirement we sent a media notice that had to go out to all media outlets or to a media outlet no later than may 6th so we did send that out prior to may 6th so tonight then as a procedural requirement we're discussing our intent to retire our rehire retired principal mrs cayton which we will bring to the july 7th board meeting for the board to vote on mrs katon started in olin tangi in 1995 as a teacher she was an assistant principal and then started as the principal at liberty tree
elementary school in 2008 we currently have three certified teachers retired rehired in the district um a math teacher a special ed teacher and a school nurse so mrs caton would be the fourth certified professional that we would recommend for retiree hire this does allow us to rehire a seasoned and experienced principal typically when we retire we hire teachers we bring them back at a step five and they stay at that step five as long as they're retired rehired a retired rehired teacher or in this case principal uh has a one-year contract so it's it's always a one-year contract and then obviously uh if that contract is renewed it's renewed on an annual basis so in the with a principle we don't have steps so we look at the principal uh salary range for elementary principles
so we plan on bringing we'll make a recommendation to bring mrs caton back at the lower part of that range when we make the recommendation on july 7th okay so so again to kind of reiterate reinforce what mr meyer brought to us is is we're working within the structure provided to us between stirs and and the mechanics of retired rehire of an individual that's allowed to take advantage of the benefits it provides them through 35 plus years of educational experience and from the district's perspective we get economic benefit because you get lower lower pay from us and we don't we also don't have to contribute to her pension anymore correct uh she does yeah we do we do we pay yes at least from a salary basis we were able to save some money for
the district take advantage of uh the structure and uh get a highly highly qualified person into the district so while people may have issues with retiree hire we're working within the system that's been provided to us within the state of ohio and i think it's it's worthwhile to support is that 60 day they have to be inactive 60 days is that correct correct yeah so does that cut into any of the time that she we would want because they when do our building admins return uh august first or yeah august 1st okay so they can also skip their first two pays from stress right yeah she said her retirement date effective may 31st for the purposes of sitting out the 60 60 days so for her to come back august 1st okay any other questions
on that all right we'll move on to the superintendent action items so mr ray would you present the superintendent action items yes sir i'd like to present superintendent action items a through c for approval okay can i have a motion please oh i'll make a motion patrick have a second second so what's there any discussion on secret to the action items a through c all right see none please call the roll mrs patrick yeah mr lester yes dr dabricko yes dr weiss yes and mr o'brien yes thank you all right i'll now entertain a motion to go into executive session as permitted by the higher rise code to discuss the employment of public employees sorry what's i was just looking at the agenda it looks like it's a through b not a through c i'm
