All right, it's 5:30. I'd like to call our uh April 22nd city board meeting to order. Madam treasure, please call the role. >> Mrs. Siguin, >> here. >> Mr. Ghart, >> no. Miss Carfan >> here. >> Mr. Hower, >> here. >> Mr. Parker, >> here. Okay, I'll rise for our pledge of allegiance. I pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. >> Okay, I'll introduce our board members. We have Mr. Brent Parker >> by by himself to my right. Uh, no, Mr. Ghart. We have Miss Annie Karstarin, Mr. Lenhauser and then we have our superintendent an Slash and our treasurer Colleen Abolt. All right, no board recognition tonight, no

presentation, but we do have visitor comments. Um, we have one sign up. Linda, if you'd like to approach the podium. No, you have to turn it on. I'm sorry. I think it's it pull it up. You find it. >> Yeah. And then there's a little bit of a delay and it it will come on. Hit it. And there you go. >> Okay. >> Good evening, President Seuin, members of the board of education, superintendent Schllo, Treasurer Ah, Holtz, and community members. My name is Linda Aginyaga, president of the Yri Education Association, and I am here on behalf of nearly 500 educators across the district. Over the past several months, educators across this district have stepped up in a meaningful way, sharing their experiences, identifying challenges, and offering thoughtful ideas about how to strengthen our schools. That

level of engagement reflects a deep commitment to this district and to the students we serve. However, in the midst of this situation, we are also beginning the process of collective bargaining, and the board's representatives have missed two important deadlines which have caused more than one delay at the very start of this very critical work. When you work in public education, you learn to expect the unexpected and you learn to adapt. This lack of preparation on the board's representatives part has been not only challenging but concerning. When time is of is of the essence, we all must work together and trust that only unavoidable delays will occur. When work begins, no one has time to entertain only superficial movement that just displays a lack of urgency that does not match the seriousness of the current moment.

That concern is only heightened by tonight's reality, the official announcement of reductions in force. We understand that the district is facing financial challenges, but that understanding does not lessen the impact, nor does it remove the responsibility to make decisions that prioritize students and the people who most directly serve them every day. Our members are not interchangeable positions or mere placeholders. They are the adults students rely on for consistency, support, and connection. When these adults are eliminated, the impact is immediate and lasting. larger class sizes, increased demands on remaining staff, and fewer supports for students who need them the most. Increasing demands while reducing and eliminating support is not a recipe for success. These decisions do not happen in isolation. They shape the daily experience of students and educators across this district, and they send a

message about what and who is being prioritized. Taken together, the challenges we are seeing raise con serious concerns about the direction of the district. The long-term success of Ayria schools depends on the district's ability to recruit, support, and retain strong educators. That requires not only thoughtful decision-making, but also leadership that demonstrates preparedness, follow through, and a clear commitment to doing this work well. Our members want to be a part of any and all solutions. They are ready to collaborate, to problem solve, and to help move this district forward. But collaboration requires shared commitment, one that reflects urgency, preparation, and a genuine willingness to meaningfully engage in a way that leads to progress. Right now, too many educators are feeling uncertainty about their roles, their workloads, and the future of this district. That uncertainty has real

consequences, not just for the staff, but for students, families, and our community as a whole. For those members affected by tonight's decisions, please know this. Your work matters. The relationships you've built matter. The impact you've had on students in this district matters. You are valued, even if tonight's actions do not make you feel that way. We urge the board to reflect carefully on both the decisions being made and the messages that you are sending. The strength of this district has always been its partnership between educators, students, and families. The choices made now will determine whether that strength is sustained or diminished. Our members are paying close attention, and we will continue to stand together to advocate for the students, educators, and schools this community deserves. Thank you. Okay. Um, moving along. Uh, the meeting minutes

have been posted from our April 1st meeting. >> Do we have a motion to approve the meeting minutes? >> So move. >> Second. >> Madam Treasurer, please call the role. >> Miss Garfin. >> I. >> Mr. Parker. >> I. >> Mr. Hower. >> I. >> Mr. Sein. >> I. 010but yes. Yes. Thank you. And a transit van from Valley Truck Centers. Just a note on this. I did have a a few of you call me. Um this was already part of this year's budget. um because there's a cycle and we have two or three that need to be um taken to the graveyard so to speak. So um but that is not money coming. It had already been allocated. >> And that concludes my action items. >> Thank you. >> All right. Thank you. >> Do we have a motion to approve the action items of the superintendent? >> So moved. >> Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Any questions? Um, we have several resolutions as, um, uh, we know for the reduction in force. We wish her well. To approve the appointment of the following classified staff is detailed below and um to approve the appointment of the following certified staff as listed below. And that concludes my personnel action items. >> All right. Thank you. Do we have a motion to approve the personnel action items? >> So moved. >> Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Do we have any questions? >> Madame treasurer, please call the role. >> Mr. Christophan, >> I. >> Mr. Hower, >> I. >> Mr. Parker, >> I. >> Mrs. Seuin, >> I. Motion

carries. Okay, moving along then. Um, superintendent other or no, let me hear where may report. You have a report. >> You have the other personnel items. >> I have one more other personnel item that we put out. Uh, to approve the appointment of the following certified staff daily substitute teacher as listed below. And that concludes that >> extra item. >> Yeah. Okay. Do we have a um a motion to approve the personnel item recommended by the superintendent? >> It's so moved. >> A second. Second. >> Any questions? If no questions, please call the role. >> Mr. Hower, >> I. >> Miss Garfin, >> I. >> Mr. Parker, >> abstain. >> Mrs. Seuin. >> I. Motion carries. Superintendent report. >> Yes, I do have one. Um, first of all, uh, Cinderella this weekend, Friday, Saturday, 700

p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. There's a very special cameo visit, too. you might want to come see um also but I I will tell you I've seen bits and pieces here and there and it always amazes me at the talent that uh walks the halls in Larry City Schools. So also um there is a um event at Northre on Saturday 4:25 at from 11 to 2 p.m. It's called Ensure They Shine. We will have representatives there um from uh Mrs. flat and the registration. We're going to have some tables. Um but it's um a lot of agencies from around that are supportive of our community members. So um we will have representation. I also would like to um ask Miss Aunaga to please let us know what we allegedly did not do in a

timely manner. I would love to know what that is. If you could email me. Yes. >> Thank you. >> And that is all I have tonight. >> All right. Thank you. Uh moving on, board of education items. I just had a few comments. Um we are the the resolution for the fair school funding is um in draft form by our attorney and he uh expects to have it next meeting. >> So um we'll we'll look at it then. And oh, I wanted I wanted the board members thoughts on this. We had brought up pay to participate um a month or so ago and we haven't done anything with it and we haven't um talked about it um in open session with with anybody in the community. So I just wanted to know the thoughts of

the fellow board members if it's something that we should pursue meaning you know look into more um details beyond what we were presented with or I had talked to an >> and an uh suggested that perhaps we um ask the community if they would like to come talk at a board meeting similar what we with what we did at the reduction meeting and they can sign up to speak for three or five minutes giving their opinion, you know, so we can see what our community wants as far as pay to participate um go. So I don't know if that's something that the board me the board members would feel would benefit to get the feedback from our community. >> Madam President, would um like on the at the uh February meeting, they could just come

up, but they have to sign in like we're going to have like a set of time for that. Could they just come up and and talk? We set that time aside. >> I'm Yeah, similar to what we did in February >> versus having to sign up. >> Yeah, I didn't remember if they signed up. >> No, they just were able to call. >> They just would come up. Okay. For an Atlanta time. >> Yeah. Then yeah, that would be fine. However, whatever format we think it, you know, >> I like that necessary. But >> I don't know, Len or Annie, do you have any? I think it would be um it would be feasible to do because I think there are pros to payto play but I think there are also cons to the financial

situations of some of the parents. So I think uh we would be able to hear both sides. So yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. No, based on what Annie said, I agree with her statement there. It's difficult because we know the other schools for the most part in our conference uh have some sort of pay structure. uh we haven't had that. There's reasons why we like to make the sports as available to as many families as possible. So, you know, it's a difficult conversation for sure. I'd love to hear community feedback. >> And we we have to remember it it it's not only athletics, but it's also, you know, fine art, some of the fine arts after school programs, robotics, >> yes, >> clubs, things like that. Mhm. >> So, how do we um go about

with the communication to let them know that there'll be a future board meeting that they can come? >> We can work with uh Mrs. Higgins on getting that out um and letting the the um community know if they'd like to weigh in. >> Okay. >> Um what day and and what time. >> Okay. Let's try to do that during the school year. So, we >> Good. I also have one more. Um, I forgot I sent all of you an email about a potential person that wanted to donate. That was the um for the tennis courts. >> Yes, >> if you remember that email. He he wants to re remain nameless at this point, but Mr. Kokai um and Miss Beck >> met with him. >> Okay. >> And um >> it would be similar to

the signage like we have on the concession stands and on the football field and things of that nature. I think it would be something like some type of signage on maybe the fence or whatever it or on the wall of the fieldhouse out there. Um that then he would donate money that would be um strictly for the upkeep of the tennis courts or doing something with it. um he would sit down with us, but he just wanted to know if that was even feasible before the next step of what does this look like, but um he's wanting to donate the money to the schools for that purpose and we took the information come to you and say is it something I know we've done it with with um the concession stands with uh the football

field itself um from a company. You're referring promotional signage. That's what you're talking about. >> Uh dedication of some sort. >> Um >> and I'm not sure exactly what he'd want up there. Obviously, we'd have to uh prove that. But to move forward in talking with him, I think the next step would be to design exactly what he's looking for in his desires and then I can send that and we can talk about it in open session as to what he he just doesn't want he wants to re remain anonymous until he knows it's a a deal. >> Yeah. So, >> okay. >> Are you okay if we get more information? I send it to you. Um it would be great to have um the funds to because I would imagine at some point there's

resurfacing or >> it's difficult to maintain them in good shape and I like it quite honestly. I like the businesses to get recognition. I think it's a challenge and inspiration to other businesses uh to get involved in what we're doing. So I like that. >> Okay. I will have Mr. Ko I spec get more information. >> Thank you. Um, one more thing and um, it probably was March. Do you board members, do you recall we got an email >> from a gentleman that was a professional sign and light uh, installer? >> I I that's my words. >> But I don't know if he copied Colleen and an >> No. >> But he was basically um offering he has experience and he kind of gave his resume. Uh he he was offering to donate his services

for any type of signage work that needed done or lighting repairs that needed done throughout the district and they would be at his cost. >> Oh wow. >> He said he was an Ayria um West alum I believe and he just wanted he knew that we had some financial issues and was interested in helping the district. Do you remember that email? >> I remember. Um >> so I think that what signage he was I mean >> yeah I don't know what what he would be able to do. I don't know if >> you can give us that information. Mr. Kokai can call him. Okay. >> Because that would probably >> land under operation somewhere. >> For sure. So, I just want to make sure. >> Just forward it to us and I'll make sure um

Brian has a conversation. >> Okay. Sounds good. >> All right then. Um, anybody else have anything? No. >> All right. So, moving along, we do have executive session tonight >> with the um policies. >> I'm sorry. >> You're right. >> Um policies. So we do have some >> treasure agreement too. >> Well treasur. What' you say? >> Treasure. >> Oh yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yep. >> Okay. Um board policies. Do we have a motion to approve the first reading of the board policies? They were misbranded foods and cultivated protein food products, entrance age for kindergarten and artificial intelligence. Do we have a motion to approve the first meeting reading? So moved. >> Do we have a second? >> A second there. >> All right. Do we have questions? >> No >> questions on them. >> These

are policy post. >> Uh Brent, >> can you give us a little bit of a >> um these are all all three of them are mandatory um from OSBA. They are um basically keeping us in guidance of the new mandatory kindergarten age where you have to be at the certain age before um you go into the the school year. Um uh Miss Brandon, you obviously the the whole food and food and drug they want to make sure if if it says um what it has in it to make sure like allergies and stuff like that. Um they want to make sure we're branding it. What I read was Yeah, that's what Yeah. And then the AI is is obviously that's I'm guessing that policy is going to be uh moving and grooving throughout the next

couple years because AI keeps uh changing. >> So we have to keep updated on that. >> Tech and academic services are also trying to look through that too to make it kind of clear for us. >> Yeah. So they're all mandatory required policies. So we're just updating our our systems. >> Okay. Thank you, Brent. >> Yep. Um, and then also we do have the approval of the treasurer's contract. >> Is that a separate motion? >> It looks like Well, it's all in one motion. All >> in one. All right. Well, I'll make the motion for both of them. >> Thank you. Okay. >> Make it easy. >> So, Brett's our motion. Do we have a second? >> I thought you didn't. >> I did second. I'll second that second. >> Second a second. Okay. U

Madam Treasure, please call the role. Mr. Parker, >> I. >> Mr. Hower >> I, >> Mr. Gurfin. >> I, >> Miss Seuin, >> I. Motion carries. Now we're going into an executive session and I'm going to let Howard is considerated. >> Okay. Thank you. Do we have a motion to go into executive session? >> Well, and I think we >> do we have action to follow potential with action. >> Okay. >> And then to re um preparing conducting for reviewing for negotiations. >> Yeah. So moved. >> Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Please call the role. >> Um, Miss Garfin. >> I. >> Mr. Hower. >> Hi. >> Mr. Parker. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Seuin. >> I. Motion carries. We're going into executive session. >> Thank you.
