That's what I'm doing. >> Oh, run. Ready. Okay. All right. I would like to call our April 1st uh L City uh school board meeting to order. Madam treasure, please call the role. >> Mr. Siguin >> here. >> Mr. Gart, >> here. >> Mr. Chrisfin >> here. >> Mr. Hower >> here. >> Mr. Parker >> here. >> Okay. I'll rise for the pledge of allegiance, please. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, I'll introduce our board up uh front here. We have Mr. Brett Parker to my right and Mr. Mike Ehart. I have Miss Annie Karstarfin and Mr. Lenhauser. And then to Len's left is Superintendent Anne Slush

and our treasurer Colleen Ald. All right. So, it looks like we have a lot of board recognition tonight. So, Ann, you're going to introduce or >> uh No, I'm going to introduce the introducer. >> That's what I thought. Okay. >> It's an important job. So, first let's start with Amy Higgins and she's going to introduce a very special um project. Right. First, >> are we starting the presentations? >> Oh, >> whichever. Do that. >> All right. Then, um I'd like to ask Mrs. Kathleen Piro to please come up. And you're bringing your students with you. Jackie is actually going to do uh this presentation and then I'll be back for the recognition. >> Good evening. take a read. >> Um, >> my name is Kathleen Perro and I am an Eastern Heights Middle School special

education teacher and with me today I have Kayn Lati Silus Putnham and Bella Morgan. >> Bella. >> So we are a fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade classroom and this year our projects were all based on the sky, the land and the water. So with those projects, we decide to go very um um let's see with the military. So we started with Air Force, then we did the Army, and then we did the Navy, and now we're on to the Marines. With our projects, we did some really special things. I took our class to the Roy County Airport. We were able to sit in the cockpit of a airplane and talk to somebody who was actual pilot, right? That was fun. Next, for the army unit, we had our own classroom boot camp. Students had

to take um turns. Yeah. Doing their sit-ups, push-ups, and their sit and reach, and they had to track that over time because we learned that people in the military soldiers have to stay fit and strong. Mhm. >> Then for the um Navy unit, we worked on the massive size of the aircraft carriers and how important it is to just be work as a team and also to what it's like to be on a submarine. We couldn't imagine having your bed underwater. So that was fun. We worked on that. But why we're here today is looking at our flag. We did a whole history of the American flag during our army unit. Students had to cut pieces of fabric into five inch squares and that took quite a bit of time. And from there they used

the sewing machine and self-control to start and stop that sewing machine and wait for me to thread the bobin and wait for some. They just have patience. My favorite part is when I called them up and they had a friend and their friend took turns picking out which which fabric they were going to use. Then when we sewed the whole rose together, they wanted me to take photographs of them and lay them on the floor and show their family. So lots of photographs were sent to their parents. At the end, we did a presentation for Mr. Alisio, Mr. Lamb and who am I missing? Mr. Lisio, Mr. Lamb, and Mr. Anderson are three veterans of from Eastern Heights Middle School. So, we presented the flag up on stage for them. So, any questions? >> Beautiful.

>> Thank you. >> What will you do with the flag? >> We're not sure. It hung on our bulletin board for the third quarter. I would love to hang it in Eastern Heights so that our students can see it every day. >> Yes, it's beautiful. I just wanted to compliment you guys. Your flag is beautiful. It's just really, really beautiful. So, thank you for doing that. Thank you. >> I just have one criticism. >> Yes. >> You always put the army first. No, Air Force. >> Well, honey, we we did talk about Marines >> and Marines. Marines are first. >> Marines are first. So, the other thing that we did do is go over to Sandstone Village over in Amherst. And if you've ever been there, we went through a whole army day where we

got to use walkie-talkies, learn how to read a map, we made our own lunch, and they learned how to fold the flag with a marine, and he taught us the importance of how to fold the flag. >> Oh, cool. >> So, each of them have something to say real quick. Well, Belle, I'm going to pass. Oh, okay. Hayen, >> she ready. This project made me feel proud of our country and what I can do. I learned how to fold a American flag in right way. >> Correct way. >> I don't mean the paper. >> Oh, >> got it memorized. Mhm. >> We help people to our flag because it's so amazing because when we save USA, the army of the world World War II that people died and survived with everything that looted it with

tanks when they used it. Many people have fought that that when one day when the army when the US army won people were victorious and that's all. >> Thank you. >> Excellent. Excellent. >> And before we go, I just want to show you the books that you have in front of you. I'll come grab them in a minute, but that's our curriculum that I put together for us. students had were able to take notes um memorize things and then take them home and have um meaningful conversations with their families about the military. >> That was excellent. >> How many um children made the flag? >> Uh we have 10 students in our class. >> Okay. >> And it took nine weeks. >> So, if I could add one thing on to this um group, uh

we had kind of a special surprise out at Second Harvest for Mrs. Piro and her class. Uh Mrs. Piro was announced to be the second harvest volunteer group of the year. And on May 21st, uh we're going to accompany her to a special dinner um volunteer dinner with Second Harvest, but I believe Mrs. Higgins has certificate for the kids. >> Yes, we do. >> Okay. >> And for Mrs. P. Thank you. >> Great job. >> Great. Great. >> Okay. Okay. Follow me. >> That was awesome. >> Thank you, Mr. Parker. >> Thank you, Mr. >> Way to go, Silus. Thank you. Good job. Good job. >> Thank you. Way to go. >> That was >> I'm so glad you enjoyed it. >> Good job. >> I did. I did. >> Good job. >> Proud of

you, too. >> She said, "I'm proud of myself." >> Oh, yeah. >> That's so cool. >> Keep going, Mrs. Jiggins. >> All right. >> Okay. Just um really quick too for everybody who's here for recognitions tonight. Um if you would we have three more groups to go. When we're all done with the recognitions, if you would follow me out the door and then we're going to go around the corner and we have some cookies and um little things for you to enjoy. >> Um okay. And also when you're done um up here, if you could walk down the line and and shake hands, that would be great. Okay. All right. Um our next group we'd like to recognize are um from uh Lyria High School. And so I'd like to ask Mr. Graves and two

students to join me up here. All right. Um, this is Mr. Robert Graves. >> Hello. Do you want me to introduce them? >> And your two students. >> This is Abby Piadlo. I just said it wrong. >> Load and Haley Schmidz. >> Yes. And um we are so excited to have them here because um Haley and Abby both won um top honors at the Rotary four-way test speech. Um it was held this year. So High School earned two of the top spots um out of four, I think. Right. Very proud of them. Um, if you're not familiar with the four-way uh test, it asks students to, and if you'd like to talk about what you uh wrote about, please feel free. But it asks students um to speak on the topic that is guided by

the principles of is it true, is it fair to all concerned, will it build goodwill and friendships, and will it be beneficial to all concerned? And they have to write a speech and present that. And of course, uh, Mr. Graves as their teacher, um, helps guide them and inspire them. And we'd like to recognize them for their confidence, their excellent communication skills, and the strong voice that they represented the school district with. Thank you so much. Would you guys like TO your topic? >> I'm Abby Padlo. I wrote about fast food and how it's harmful to our friendships and like the world and economics and everything. >> My name's Haley Schmidz and I wrote about AI and how it's bad and like takes our jobs and stuff and how it's bad for the environment. >>

What what grade? I'm sorry I didn't hear what grade they were in. >> I'm a sophomore. >> Okay. >> I'm a junior. >> Okay. Yes. And I think they're both in Cinderella, correct? >> Yes. >> Haley is actually Cinderella. So, she's definitely >> So, um, Mr. Graves, thank you so much. You guys can read me that you're mind coming down and, uh, shaking hands. I really appreciate that. >> Congratulations. >> So, I can't eat any more Chick-fil-A. Congratulations. >> Very good. I >> like all right. >> One more, Mrs. Higgins. >> Uh, two more. >> Two more. All right. Actually, >> three. >> One more group and then a multi-group. >> Yes. >> All right. And, um, next I'd like to ask Mr. Greg Smith to join me up here. Mr. Smith is the um

high school orchestra director. And uh chamber members, if you'd like to come up as well right now. Um you probably saw it on our Facebook page. Um, and uh that it just was so exciting and we're so proud of the chamber orchestra uh for earning a superior rating at the OMA adjudicated uh contest that was recently held in February. And um we want to recognize all of your dedication, discipline, and musical artistry. you continue to set the bar so high for our music program in the district and we're just so grateful and we just want to congratulate you. Thank you. We have TWO more on the spot, but if you'd like to >> Well, I just want to thank first and foremost the students for really working hard um over the past uh quarter. uh

third quarter is where we prepare for um the OMA large group uh adjudicated event and I just asked that you know from bell to bell they're very focused and they're putting in time after class so really they deserve it their hard work has gone to get them this one we have a few people who also went to solo and ensemble and either did solos or small groups um at Lorraine County solo and ensemble so congratulate you guys on that as well. >> Anybody want to say anything or are you guys >> any want to say anything? >> Aby's up there again. >> On the line. >> All right, come on down. Congratulations. >> Turn. All right. Okay. And now I'm going to turn it over to Mr. Sorca uh to come up and recognize our

athletes. Okay. Who was that? Thank you. Thank you. At least I have one supporter over there. >> All right. >> Right. >> So, uh, we have two different groups we got to celebrate today. The first group I'm going to start off with is wrestling. Um, but before I introduce the wrestlers, I want to say something about one of our coaches, our coach that's here, Coach Brillhard. Um, you can start coming up. Unfortunately, Bill, Coach Billard told me probably what, two weeks ago, uh, this is his last year coaching with us. >> Thousand years. >> He's done it for 20 years. >> 25. I didn't want to put that many years on you. 20 years. Um, and he's done a great job. And I think that the thing that makes the difference in our district isn't

just coaching. It's not just wins, not just losses. It's the effort that our co our coaches put in. It's the communication they have with kids, with parents. It's being a part of the community. And coach Bhard exemplified that every second that he was with us. So, I'm I know you guys already give a round of applause, but you guys mind giving. And then for wrestlers, um, every year I learn a little bit from our kids. And I'll say with wrestling this year, I'm not going to pick out which one it was, but one of them taught me something about wrestling, right? and we were at a meet and he was really nervous to be in this wrestling meet. He's really nervous for the other guy. He saw the guy and the guy's huge. Coach, I

don't know what to do. I'm nervous. I don't know. I don't know if I'm going to win this one. Um then he got up and he won. I'll call it Brandon. How long? About 38 seconds. >> He won pretty quick. Um and I think the cool thing about wrestling is it's one-on-one. It is you against them. Nobody's gonna come bail you out. And I think that that's like the definition of courage to me, right? Of being able to step up knowing it's on your shoulders and still do what you need to do in the moment. And these all of our wrestlers throughout different moments showed that this year. I think it was pretty cool to watch. So we are going to start off boys wrestlers. And first off, Brillin S. QUITE a bit of metal.

>> Sorry guys, just one moment. >> We did have a couple other wrestlers. Uh they weren't able to make it today. So Bray was our only boys wrestler to come out. But Brillan and then you can go back and we shake hands on THE WAY OUT. OH, SORRY. HANG UP FAST ENOUGH. >> SO, one thing I forgot to throw out there was Brillin finished first in the SWC in the heavyweight division. Our next are our girl our girls wrestlers. Um at the end of the year they had a tournament out in Toledo. >> Yes. >> All right. And they were they placed in the tournament. That's what we're recognizing them for. Our first one we are going to recognize is Elena Maze. And then our second one, >> Holly Parker. >> Also Peter Pan. Peter.

>> All right. And then that's our wrestlers. Thank you. Congratulations. Congratulations. >> Congratulations. >> All right. Next group up that we're going to recognizes our boys basketball. Um I don't know if you guys saw the news. This group went undefeated throughout middle school. And I thought it was cool to be able to be on the athletic director side of what perfect looked like. Um, from the outside we see perfect, we see wins, we see no losses. And we think that's the whole story. But on the back end, they look like every other team. They won games, they had great practices, they had some bad practices, they had good moments, they had bad moments. Um, there's a quote from the office and it's, uh, the problem with the good times is we don't realize they're over

or we don't realize we're in them until they're over. And the one thing I want you guys to realize while you guys are continuing on your excellence within basketball is this is what the good times look like and your guys' excellence. You guys backto-back undefeated seasons. It's not because individually you guys were perfect. All right. I know you guys were great. I know you guys worked hard. But to me, sports, especially team sports are like a puzzle. How does that puzzle fit together? All of you guys have weaknesses. All of you guys have strengths. How do those strengths and weaknesses fit together? Um, I thought that was a cool thing to see throughout the season of everybody kind of be able to mesh together throughout uh both seasons. So, to me that was kind of

like the coolest thing to be able to see behind the scenes how it actually works. Um, for backto-back years, coach Kyle Roser was their coach. I thought he did a tremendous job. Um, he I we we said a lot, you know, it wasn't all X's and O's with this group. It was managing people, managing personalities, and we had great kids, but I also know he worked a lot to be able to manage that throughout backto-back years. So Kyle, if you'll come up real quick. First one, Robert Gates, Kayen Higinop, Alliance Anderson, KHAN JACKSON, KYLER LARIC. YES, we're good. We're good. And then team manager, and I'll let you guys in on a secret, he's also PD for part of the season, Tim Clayton. Thank you. Thank you, >> guys. Thank you for all your hard

work this season. You guys can go ahead and shake >> hands. Good job. >> Thank you. >> You're supposed to be tall. >> Okay. Uh, wow. That's some good stuff. >> Brett, you got a lot to look forward to with. >> Yeah. Everyone can uh follow Amy out for the cookies. She took them away from us. pictures and cookies. >> All right. So, we have no visitors. >> Nope. >> Tonight. So, we'll move along. Item E, meeting minutes. The meeting minutes have been posted. Do we have an a motion to approve the board? So, >> move. >> Minutes from March 25th. >> Second. >> Okay. Madam Treasur, please call the role. >> Mr. Gabart. >> I. >> Mr. Parker. >> I. >> Miss Garfin. >> I. >> Mr. Hower. >> I. >> Mrs. Siguin. >>

I. Motion carries. Um, no board of education items, but we do have some treasure action items. >> Uh, yes. To approve and acknowledge the following donation from the William Millie Trust um has presented a check for over $12,000 for the performing arts center for the high school. So, thank you. >> Wow, that's a lot. >> Just an added little tidbit. Um, it's actually going to buy us a new soundboard that has finally >> kind of bit the dust after 15 years. So, um, they were they upped it a little so that we could afford the wholesome board. So, that was very nice of them. So, >> that's great. >> Thank you. >> Uh, do we have a motion to accept the treasurer action items? >> So, move. >> Do we have second? >> Okay. Do

we have any questions? >> If no questions, please call the role. >> Miss Garfin. >> I. >> Mr. Hower. >> I. >> Mr. Gart. >> I. >> Mr. Parker. >> I. >> Mr. Siguin. >> I. Motion carries. Uh, treasurer. Other. We do have an expul expulsion. I always say explosion expulsion hearing. So we would need uh two representatives as the primary and then three alternates >> for when? >> Oh, I'm sorry. For April 15th, which >> Oh, yes. >> We were talking about moving the April 15th board meeting. Can we still do the >> Where did he Mr. Howard go? April 22nd 22nd. >> I could do either anyway. >> Okay. And can you do anything? >> That's what I'm Yeah, I should be able to do that as well because I didn't have anything

on that date. >> Okay. >> So, I should be able to do that as well. >> So, I mean, we do have two board members that can do it on the 15th. I've got an old iPhone that takes a while. >> What do you say? >> His iPhone's a little antiquated. >> Yeah, that would be fine. >> Okay. >> Which is fine? The 15th or the 22nd? >> 22nd. So, should we do we keep the expulsion hearing on the 15th since that's probably has notification gone out? >> Notification has gone out. Um, we can if allowed to in the they can make it. I could send another notification. >> I could resend another notification and make sure that that's okay. >> Okay. So, we're going for the 22nd for both. >> Correct. for expulsion hearing

and board meeting >> and board meeting >> about >> okay >> in 20 seconds good with you Annie >> okay good >> okay okay so it'll be Len and then Annie and then the three others and then I will send an updated notification letter and inform the board >> is that something >> for April 22nd >> um well we have to do I have the motion to accept the items recommended by the treasurer so do we have a motion to accept the items recommended by the treasurer. >> Yes. So moved. >> Second. >> Okay. >> Uh madam treasure, please call the role. >> Mr. Hower, >> I. >> Mr. Gart, >> I. >> Mr. Garurfin, >> I. >> Mr. Parker, >> I. >> Mrs. Seuin, >> I. Motion carries. Uh, treasurer report. Looks like we

have something. >> Uh, yes, we do. And actually, one of the items on the report was to ask to move the board meeting from the April 15th through April 22nd. So, I think that we are okay with that one. Um, I also have a financial update, but before I do that, I wanted to give um one other shout out. The audit was complete for fiscal year 25. The audit came out with a clean financial audit. There was only two management letters and it had to do with multifactor identification for two of our softwares, which we were actually in the process of doing, but wasn't finished. So, clean financial audit with just two management letters about um IT certifications that it has been handling. And then I wanted to give a financial update for the month

of March for the personnel action items related to March 4th and March 25th related to the full $9 million reduction plan. I have the report in front of you, but as a summary on the last page, you can see the total identified savings for fiscal year 26 was over um $170,000, $170,798. And then the total fiscal year, so next year savings identified in March for some of the the reduction of force that came through some of the retirements or resignations that we didn't have to um hire again for next year. So the identified savings as of March for next year is $664,99 for a total of $835,77. And I wanted to let the board know also that if we go on the ballot in November that by August we would need the two resolutions. So

I would recommend in June that we would put on a U resolution. So, in May, I'll be updating the forecast um unofficially, unless you guys want me to send a new one to a higher department of education, but unofficially updating my forecast in May to go over the numbers and to see where we are for millage. If we decide to put on a levy, then we would have the millage number and then the amount that we would need for the resolution in June for one of the first readings. >> Mhm. >> And that was it. I think I got all my stuff. Yep. >> Are these um the coaching supplemental contracts? Are those the JV? >> Um those are the ones that were on there last month that were completely normal ones that we always

have, but since they did add cost, I had them on there. >> Okay. I know what they I know the amounts the numbers, but I can't tell you who they are. I don't remember the what they were for, but I could tell you the amounts of them. The ones that they were we were splitting two of them. >> Softball. Thank you. >> Okay. That's what I thought. >> The three softball assistants. They split contracts. >> Okay. All right. Um so, superintendent action items. >> Yes. Thank you. First of all, overnight field trip for um it's what our social workers do a girl social skills group. They're doing a little lock in here where they're going to cook dinner and sleep overnight on the very hard floors and they enjoy it. It's fun for them and

uh a way to save costs instead of going to common ground where we used to take them and they're looking forward to it. So, um that is it for action items. >> Okay. Do we have a um >> Yeah. So move. >> Yes. Do we have a motion? >> Do we have a second? >> Second. Any questions from the board? >> Okay, madam treasure, please call the role. >> Mr. Parker, >> I. >> Mr. Gart, >> I. >> Miss Christophen, >> I. >> Mr. Hower, >> I. >> Mr. Sein, >> I. Motion carries. Personnel action items. >> Thank you. First of all, to approve the resignation of the following classified staff is listed below. To the approve the resignation of the following certified staff. I did I didn't want to put them on the spot.

I know it's been a a very tough decision, but Greg Smith is stepping down as the orchestra director. He is going to pursue other endeavors. Um, and Adam Barren will take over. He's been the assistant director and very capable. Um, we will miss Greg. He's he's been phenomenal, but I have a feeling he'll stay in touch because he loves the kids here. Also to approve the following athletic supplemental contracts for the district certified and/or classified staff is listed below. To approve the appointment of the following certified staff, uh Sean Beckworth, the graduates, going to do some substitute teaching for us. Also to recall the following classified staff member from the reduction in force um at Westwood campus. To approve the unpaid leave of absence for the following classified staff to approve the retirement of the

following um classified staff. Jenny's been with us for 21 years and she'll be missed. She was she always sm is always smiling. I will miss that. also to approve the classified substitute compensation rates as listed below. And that concludes my personnel action items. >> All right. Thank you. Do we have a motion to uh approve the superintendent personnel action items? >> So move. >> Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Do we have any questions? If none, please call the role. Mr. Surfin. >> I. >> Mr. Hower. Hi. >> Mr. Gart. Hi. >> Mr. Parker. Hi. >> Mr. Seuin >> I. Motion carries. Uh, superintendent report. >> Yes. Uh, well, tomorrow is the last day of school for um some of the staff and the kiddos. So, uh, we hope everyone has a wonderful

spring break. I can't believe that when we get back, I think we only have like seven weeks, six, seven weeks left. Um, also was able on Monday to see Peter Pan. I was unable to go Friday night, but I saw it Monday and uh, they did a fabulous job. Northwood Middle School. Um also, uh spring sports are in full gear. Um doing well. Um I know softball is um is hitting the bats pretty well. Very very young team, but they're looking good. Um that's um on the the schedules are on the website. So, please look at at baseball, track, tennis, I think it's boys tennis in the spring, and then softball. Those are our spring sports. Also, flag football for girls. Um, uh, the Special Olympics uh, craft show was very successful. Um, lots of

cars. I passed it after my next uh, shout out to the, um, NAACP breakfast. It was very nice. Um, the Honorable Judge a Mecca um spoke and uh she always does such a great job. But we enjoyed ourselves and uh had a great um breakfast there and when I passed after leaving Second Baptist, the parking lot was full for the Special Olympics craft fair. And that is all I have. Um spring has sprung as we can see outside. I'm glad it's not snow. We'd be 30 in under. Yes. >> Yes. >> All right. Thank you. Uh any board of education items? If not, do we have executive session? We do. Okay. So, uh do we have a motion? We we're requesting an executive session for the purpose of considering the employment, dismissal, discipline, demotion, or

compensation of a public employee or official as authorized. Do we have a motion? >> So move. >> Second. All right. Is there um followup needed or >> No, not today. >> No action to file. >> Okay. You want me to call? >> Uh, please call the role. >> Miss Garurfin. >> I. >> Mr. Hower. >> I. >> Mr. Parker. >> Hi. >> Mr. Gart. >> Hi. >> Mr. Sein. >> I. Motion carries.
