Yes, ma'am. >> I'd like to call our uh March 25th Larry City School Board meeting to order. >> Madam Treasurer, please call the role. Mrs. Siguin, >> here. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gart, >> here. >> Miss Garurfin >> here. >> Mr. Hower, >> here. Mr. Parker, >> it's you, baby. >> I feel like we're being >> It's him. It's lit. It's all lit out. Everybody saw that. >> Okay. >> I have a detention pad, >> right? Got a >> He's probably never been in ISA. >> Okay. Uh, do we have any board recognition? board. >> Oh, >> why don't you start this again? >> See, see what happens, Colleen, when we move the meeting. >> All right, I'll rise for the pledge of allegiance, please. Sorry about this. I pledge allegiance to the flag of

the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay. Uh, introductions. Mr. Brent Parker and Mr. Mikeart to my right. >> I'm sorry. >> This is Annie Kstaren. >> Hi. >> And Mr. Lenhauser to my left. And then our superintendent, Ann Sles, and our treasurer, Colleen Aold. >> Drinking. >> You got me. >> Um, all right. Uh, we have no board recognition. We have no presentation, but we do have a visitor, Mr. Eric Bowens. >> Okay. >> All right. You guys know the drill, but it's just your name and address. And >> thank you to the board members. Um, Eric Bowens, 159 Tap Avenue, Ohio. Robert Madison 131 St. Charles, Ohio and we're representing University Track Club today. >>

Check check. >> Okay. Eric Bones, 159 Tapp Avenue, Ohio. >> Madison 31 St. Charles Place, Ohio. And again, we are representing Yira Youth Track Club and we are going into season five >> season season five outdoor season and we're just completing our indoor season uh where we were able to uh collaborate with Oberlin College and have a clinic for our children. They provided a clinic at their uh facility. Um we competed at Oberlin College as well. Uh coach probably can go I know Spire univers as well. We went out to um uh Astabbula and competed Aspire uh Tiffen University and last but not least Bowling Green University. So I wanted to mention those uh locations because those locations for these children I think are um really state-of-the-art. It's giving these kids um some experience that

I'd never experienced at their age level. And I'm really excited about the future of our young track athletes. We have several right now. We have littles and bigs. our bigs. Quite a few of them are in the middle school right now competing for Eastern Heights, Northwood, and Westwood. I'm super excited. I know there's some some super talent to come. I know that the middle school coaches have to be impressed with what they know because again, they're getting some from Madison themselves some um some real high class caliber uh experience, if you will. So, what we came today uh to the board about was to ask the board um to have permission to be able to participate outside at the uh Indie Stadium um as we've done in the past few years. Excuse me. We typically

um get out there after graduation once the uh facility has access for us to be able to uh participate in practice. We typically was three times a week and there's a schedule that can be prepared and submitted to you all. Um, obviously there's a schedule that needs to be submitted online as well. Um, but we did want to come and ask for permission to have support from the city schools to continue to have the children out there practicing. Um, and then also we still wanted to ask um for the the the cost for the fees to be waved. Um, we are a nonprofit organization. We're still operating off of the funds of the community. Um, support from the volunteers. Uh, really boots on the ground just going out. um we were in our a popcorn

fundraiser for the children um this past indoor practice. So just trying to be creative and keep things sustainable until we can uh really get something to kind of you know if you will carry us along the way but we are super excited about our children. Um and then one or two just bring this ass. >> Wow. I really um enjoy the in indoor aspect of track and field because um my daughters um I started off with them. We had a um we did indoors and that made them explode because they seen something that um was larger than just high school. They seen it was competing on a whole different level than everybody else was. And even the young people that we have now, they are they were invited to come back and to go to

different because of the way they run and how explosive they were. And actually out of 15 13 of them metal, right? >> Yeah. Most of them, all of them took first, second, I mean they did really good in the indoor season. So they want us to come back for outdoors to start competing against some of the other schools because it was what like 30 schools for indoor and they place really good to place really high. So we've done an excellent job with them and we're mentoring them to teach them how to be um conduct themselves all times not only in school but outside of school to respect the parents you know and people and and they doing an awesome job right now. So yes, we would love to be a be at the stadium. Once

again, >> can I ask a clarifying question because I I believe the board will want to know this. Um we have had to in our our reduction plan cut some of the evening um maintenance operations workers. And I'm not sure. I will need to check to see if we have someone that will be there in the evening hours at the stadium when there aren't um other things going on because that would be an added cost to the district if there's not someone already there. >> So, I would encourage you to get in um the times and everything so that we can evaluate that. Eric, that way we know what we um the costs. Yes. And then I can send that to the board so they could make a a decision on that um or what

have you if we can add that cost if it is indeed an extra cost. Um we very much like having our kids out there and using the facility, but um we also are in the middle of this reduction plan. So, I would need to talk to the operations department once we have your times, right, >> to make sure um if we're working within um the coverage is what they call it. Gotcha. >> I have one question. Shouldn't you have a a track and field instead of over >> Let me tell you long story. >> I was I was a coach at Overland College, Oland High School, Aya High School. And so I just happened to put this on and do some work around the house and I didn't one one more to add with that

I will say because we did go to Bree last and I went to the uh to the store afterwards. This little girl was like I know who you guys are on my YA you track club outfit. Though the Lyria kid are known across he mentioned it day in Youngstown Abbula Columbus because of the performance that they've been doing but people see the L youth track club and they know who these kids are in just a few short years. So um we are representing I just say that. >> Do I have a question for you? Do you have kids already registered for this spring and summer or are you taking applications or are they just they're the same kids from last year or how many are you anticipating for this term coming up? >> So we

have a lot of kids from indoor that will carry over to outdoor. We had typically maybe around 30 or 40 outdoor we usually get 100 kids or so to come out and then we might end up with about 80 after they get done with coach Madison. But um typically about 100 kids or so to come off for outdoor track and there's a lot of parents that are asking when's registration when but our first step was to come here and talk to you guys before we do anything and then we go from that point. >> And when does it start? >> As soon as possible. >> Yeah. Not trying to be funny because we're already a little bit behind, you know. >> But uh as soon as we can get out there and start working it

help a lot. So we have to give it to >> Yeah. the dates because then I work with the athletic director is so we can make times that don't interfere with >> any of the um track field and track for um middle school and high school um and stuff and we've been really good about I mean we've always found time it's just a matter of we just have to make sure we have all the coverages and everything good. >> Absolutely. And we always encourage the kids run for school come see us when you get done. So yeah, we understand that for sure. >> And just a quick question. First of all, man, I commend what you guys are doing. I love it. Y has a great track legacy and uh you got to start them

young. >> Got to start them young. So just we've had some constituents that have asked us about facility use and that sort of thing and they've had questions about that that they brought to us as a board. So just tell me a little bit about your organization. You're a non you're a 501c3 >> 51c3 nonprofit organization. Uh we're a LIA youth sports club. We started off as a YA South Baseball Club under the leadership with the YW.C.A. Miss Donaldson. Um so we kind of started with that and then we had the idea since we had track after baseball. Then we added chess to start our own nonprofit umbrella organization youth sports club umbrella organization for baseball, track, chess, so on and so forth. So, and we've been operating since 2021 51c3 and you um um

there's a a modest fee for the kids or are they uh covered by by community benefactors and are the coaches paid? How how what's the structure of your organization? >> Yeah, I love that. So, the motto is no child left behind. So, we always want to try to make sure all the kids are participating. Um we obviously um started earlier in South baseball on the south side of the end. So, a lot of our kids do come from uh poverty and and and not so much fortunate um situations. So, what we try to do is make sure that our scholarships and then um things of that nature, the community helps sponsor children. Um if they have multiple children, we do discounts, we do payment plans, uh whatever, again, no child left behind. There'll never be

a kid and say, "I couldn't afford to run." >> So, we do make sure of that. Um we've had um we've had in the past we've had a Dix grant um not this year but the year before $9,000 Dix grant which paid for um the track um equipment paid for their their meat fees paid for them to be AA certified um paid for you know everything food and so on so forth. So just trying to be again strategic and trying to find different ways whether it's a grant whether it's crowdfunding whether it's um you know car wash or whatever it may be. Um, that's kind of how we've been able to sustain ever gap. >> Yeah. But it's good. And how you how you getting the word out to all the sides of I love

every kid to do that. How do you get the word out to all the sides of town? >> Social media. Word of mouth. Coach Madison, the legendary coach Madison running kids. Uh, we go to different track places. People want to, you know, hey, how can we get started? So, yeah, it's just kind of snowball kind of building as we go along. >> Is it only kids? >> No. No. So we ser county kids you get to practice we'll we'll we'll work with you come out if you want >> they have mask >> to run and and the thing about the unique thing about what I love about a track club is cuz you know at first it was almost like you know I got little ones as well and coach Madison he's ready to you

know compete so how do you balance the big kid the little what a little kid is intro to let's learn how to run our lane let's how to breathe correctly Let's learn proper technique. These older kids, let's let's get out here and actually push ourselves. Let's get a PR. Let's do better than what we did. We're not chasing medals. We're chasing your own personal record, if you will. So, if they see that and hopefully they see that in life, that will be some influence. They're like, I just need to do a little bit better and each time it all works itself out. So, >> Thank you very much. Thank you guys. >> Good estimation. >> Okay. Uh board of education or no meeting minutes. Wow. I'm out of it today. Uh the meeting minutes have

been posted. Do we have a motion to >> I'll make that motion. >> Second. >> Any questions on the minutes? Have none. Please call the role. >> Mr. Gart, >> I. >> Mr. Surfin. >> I. >> Mr. Hower. >> I. >> Mr. Parker. >> I. >> Mr. Siguin. >> I. Motion carries. Board of Education items. None. Treasurer action items. >> I have two of them. to accept the financial report for the month of February of 2026 and also to acknowledge the following donations of the We Care Closet and Ayria Service League. Thank you for those donations. >> Okay. Do we have a motion to accept the treasurer's action items? >> So move. >> Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Uh any questions? If none, Madam Treasur, please call the role. >> Mr. Parker,

>> I. >> Mr. Hower, >> I. >> Mr. Sarfin, >> I. >> Mr. Ghart, >> hi. >> Mr. Siguin, >> I. Motion carries. Uh treasur report. >> I do not have a report to today. I'm going to save it for April 1st. I will do the financial report for like a month in a rears for the March board meetings and I'll do an update on the reduction plan and the finances and where we stand. >> Okay, great. Okay, moving along. Superintendent action items. >> Thank you so much. First of all, to approve the adoption of the school calendar for 2627. Uh the next few are uh some contracts. First we have ontime sports uh a multi-year amateur sports promotion. Um the agreement for the electricity purchase program from the Ohio Schools Council. Then we have

a few uh overnight or out of state trips. First the VEX World competition in St. Louis for robotics. Then we have the overnight field trip for the state special Olympics games, Olympic games this summer. Then we have the JOTC leadership challenge camp. And that concludes my action items. >> Thank you. Do we have a motion to approve the superintendent action items? >> Second. Does anyone have questions? >> So, are any of those vendors new? Is that a new >> No, those are all those are all um reoccurring. >> Okay. Okay. Okay, madam treasurer, please call the role. >> Mr. Gart, >> I. >> Mr. Chrisorfin, >> I. >> Mr. Hower, >> hi. >> Mr. Parker, >> I. >> Mrs. Siguin, >> I. Motion carries. Moving along to superintendent uh personnel action items. >> Okay. And

I'm I will have uh an introduction or two after I do this. So, first of all, to approve the appointment of the following EHS student tax worker. Also to improve the payment of up to four hours for uh the teacher as listed below. To approve the following OSAA tournament game workers as listed below. To approve the appointment of the following certified staff um tutors and uh substitutes for the rest of the year. Also to approve the retirement of uh the certified staff. Uh Michelle Kersh, we just had to re she revised her date. And Sharon Duffner, who's been with the Larry City Schools for 24 years. I know she has more than that uh from outside the district, but we wish Sharon well. She's been a wonderful teacher. Also to approve the unpaid leave of

absence during the 2526 school year as listed below. To approve the unpaid leave of absence for the 2627 school year as detailed below. to approve the following athletic supplemental contracts. Um, two of them being revised as we are going to have a JV softball team this year. We have enough kids to have one, which is wonderful. >> Also to approve the resignation of the following classified staff members as listed below to approve the appointment of the following classified administrative staff. Um, Dena is a revision um that Colleen had to make uh a correction and then Adrien Shytower as you know we are absorbing a position um communications in the superintendent's office are going to share um following Mary Wright's retirement we are going to combine and use one executive assistant. So um also to approve

the unpaid leave of absence for the of the following classified staff as detailed below to approve the resignation of the following administrative staff member as detailed below to approve the following district and non-district game workers as listed below to approve the appointment of the following classified staff. These are all movements um within the district. also to approve the reduction in force. um as um listed below um there is a um what do I want to call it resolution it says now therefore be it resolved that whereas pursuer to um revised code 3319.172 and in accordance with article 7 section 14 of the negotiated agreement between the board and the yriious schools support staff the board may adopt the a resolution ordering a reasonable reduction in and the number of non-eing employees due to financial reasons.

And that concludes my personnel action items. >> All right. Thank you. Do we have a motion to approve the personnel action items? >> Motion to approve. >> Do we have a second? >> Second. >> If no questions, Madam Treasure, please call the role. >> Mr. Hower, I. >> Mr. Gart, I >> Mr. Starfin. I >> Mr. Parker. Hi. Mrs. Seuin. >> I motion carries. >> I'd just like to acknowledge um Adrien Shai Tower who I have to say um Mary was out um this fall until now. And Adrienne's been doing a wonderful job of picking up the pieces um without even being asked. And it it's been really good for the district and that's why we thought we could absorb a position. and I just want to thank her and congratulate her to uh move

into her new position and uh I'm sure she will continue to do a fantastic job. So, congratulations speech. Okay. I'm not mean like that. She said you needed to do a speech, but I Yes. Um would you like me to go ahead with my report? >> Sure. >> Okay. Um, and then as far as a report, a lot of wonderful things going on. For any of you who were able to see Eastern Heights Middle School's drama club, um, Moana, is that how you say? I I don't watch or, uh, Disney much, but Moana, um, it was wonderful and heard wonderful things from others. Um, I've been able to watch some of the, um, videos that M. Amy Higgins is posting and and the talent our youngsters have just always floors me. So, congratulations to the

whole Eastern Heights Middle School Drama Club. This Friday, the Northwood Middle School Drama Club is putting on Peter Pan Jr. at 7 p.m. at the uh, Performing Arts Center. So, um, that will be wonderful. Also, um lots of spring sports have started. Our softball team is 2 and 0, I think. Um that I I saw someone just sent that to me. Um it's a little too cold to sit out there yet for me, but yes, they played last night and beat Strongsville, I think, in extra innings. >> So, lots of um lots of younger um players um that have come out and uh Keenan's done a great job. The fact that we have a JV team for the first time in a lot of years is wonderful. Also, um this Saturday morning at 9:00 am

at Second Baptist, the annual NAACP breakfast. It's always one to look forward to and uh >> um the speaker or the keynote is um >> our new judge. Yes. And uh she does a wonderful job. She met with our students and and did a presentation and she does a great job. Also this Saturday is the athletics reverse raffle. >> I was trying to think. I think I've been going for 26 years. So, um, always look forward to that. And Saturday from 10 to 3 is the Special Olympics craft fair with the Easter egg hunt. >> And I know that's a favorite of many. So, that is going on. So, lots of great things happening and uh um enjoy. I can't believe we're in the fourth quarter. I don't know where their year went, but uh

there we're rounding home and or rounding third and heading home, as they say, rounding home. I never rounded home very often, so uh like to say it, but that's all I have. >> Okay, thank you. Um I just had a a few things I wanted to um just bring up uh to the board. Uh oh, one of them Howard's not here today. Um but Mr. Parker had asked um and I don't think the rest of the board has has was in on it because we hadn't spoke about it publicly, but um we'd like to do a resolution where we're publicly supporting the um the fair the fair school funding plan and Howard said he can put something together for us. He just hasn't gotten it to me yet to um to read. >> So supporting

fully funding it. Yes. >> Which you've been talking about for >> Yep. >> backing with the board resolution. >> Yeah. So, just so it's publicly stated, >> union said. >> Yep. >> No. >> So, that that's great. >> Um, but when Howard sends something, then we can send it out to look at. >> Sure. >> That was one uh of the items. And then I don't want to put Brian on the spot, but you had but I'm putting but I'm putting you on the spot. Um just as a followup with the use of the school facilities >> and um I think as a board we have to decide if we want to make any changes to that or if we're um okay with the way things are with the way Brian presented two weeks ago.

But then I know there were some questions about the use of the facility um that uh was that what school was that? Northwood or Elie? >> Elely. >> At Elely >> Yeah. some of the parents or a parent had questions about the use of that facility and we were going to to check to see how they were, you know, moving around the school and that type of thing. >> Yeah, we looked into that and corrected a few pieces of paperwork for contention, but the principal saw no issues with the use. The spaces that they're in are not impacting construction. I went through camera footage for a reasonable amount of time and saw sort of conflict. Heard nothing from administration about the conflict. So I think everything as far as you can tell. >> Okay. >>

Did somebody get back with that lady? >> Um I don't know. I think I think there has been communication back and forth. >> Um it was written to the board. So I was just copied on it. So, I didn't know if if you answered it or >> No, I didn't answer any direct answers, but >> Okay. >> So, if Brian's what would our next steps be to this? >> Could could you just give it the flow? I'm not concerned about this organization. I just want to have clarity. >> So, is it a what is what's the group? Is it a Bible study group? What's the group? What >> I believe that's the one in question >> that that >> it's a I can speak to that. I know more about it because they've been around

forever. They were in Oakwood when I was principal. Okay. So, it's um a a Abbey Road Baptist Church has a it's a Bible club that they've been doing in gosh 20 plus years. They've been it's an afterchool program that parents sign off and and um sign their students up with. A lot of times they're at the open houses the first week of school and um it's all between the parents and the club. they just use our facility to meet like Girl Scouts does and Boy Scouts. >> Um I think that um there have not to my knowledge ever been issues with the program um and it's not been brought to our attention. I think the the um when Brian says they cleaned up some paperwork, they were coming in and using a table in the

cafeteria to get ready for what they were doing with the kids later a little early. So, we just made sure that it said that in their paperwork so that it was all accurate. Okay. Um but it's it's um Deb Surles I believe the name of the person that runs it and has been running it for since I was a principal has always been doing it. Um and it's a it's a program I think at this point. Um uh we need to follow up with uh some type of a communication with um the person that questioned it and let them know where where we are whether you want to change the rules or not. >> I was going to ask the rest of the board. >> Yeah, that would have to be a board decision if

you want to change because it would it would involve changing policy. Okay. For for me personally, after your presentation last uh board meeting and after reading it over, this is just for me personally, but I didn't see any changes that uh I would be interested in discussing in our current policy. It seemed pretty clear and pretty enforcable for me. >> I agree with you, Len. >> I do too. >> I um I just have a question. Is there an additional cost for them being there after school due to janitorial or to custodial? >> That's a great question. Yeah, that and that's kind of what I was talking to Mr. Bowens about. There is already a custodian there, so they don't have any extra costs. I know that what I was trying to say to Mr.

Bowens is we because we've made some cuts, we have to make sure there's coverage anytime it costs more than those those clubs or agencies or whatever they are have to incur that cost. >> So, and we make sure of that. Mr. um Kokai is in charge of that. So at this point, none of the clubs that she runs um incur extra cost because there's a custodian on the second shift. >> On the second shift. And I do um understand and agree with what you were saying in your presentation regarding um the effect of us changing policy and how that would affect other groups like the Boys and Girls Club and you know what effect that would have on the participation and us having those students in those clubs and I know that that does help

even with the behavioral side of things. We want to keep that going if we can. So I I don't have a problem with, you know, >> keeping the policy as it is because we want to try to keep the behavior, >> you know, as calm as possible. >> The more involved our students get, >> Yeah. >> the better experience they have. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> And and I would agree. I don't see >> I think we should say something or let this lady know though. >> Okay. that we've talked and >> is that something the board wants to do or are you asking me to do that or >> is it something the board should do or is it more >> Well, she wrote to the board so that's why I was asking I

she directed her emails. >> I'm allowed to speak on behalf of because you know typically we don't respond oneon-one to >> a constituent's concerns. >> Um >> but I guess I'm publicly can say I can speak on behalf of the board. Why don't we confer with Howard and see what he thinks the best way to do that is that way we do it the way that you know we're supposed to. >> When in question call Howard. >> Yeah. When in question call Howard. >> Okay. That that was the only Yep. couple things I wanted to talk about. Does anyone else have anything? >> No. >> Do we uh do we are we doing executive session? Yes. >> Okay. All right. So, moving along. Um request for an executive session pursuant to Ohio Revised Code section

.22G1 to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of a public employee. Do we have a motion? >> So move. >> Second. >> Okay. Madam treasure, please call the role. >> Miss Garfin, >> I. >> Mr. Gart, >> I. >> Mr. Hower, >> hi. >> Mr. Parker, >> hi. >> Mr. Sein, would >> there be anything to follow? Was there any action to follow? >> I don't think there's no action to follow. No. So, we are headed to executive session with no action. >> Have a nice night, everyone.
