just wanted to be that tall it's a little late for April fools but there's a stool back here for me uh all right thank you all for for being here uh this evening thank you all for the opportunity to recognize our amazing volunteers our school district would not be what it is without the amazing support of the phenomenal people who volunteer every single day in our schools I have the distinct pleasure this evening of recognizing somebody who has just an absolutely positive attitude and a dedication to making the world a better place and that is our Anderson high school PTO president Tracy hubner uh Tracy impresses me with the fact that every time we talk her first question is how can I help so many people nowadays the question is help me or how can

you help me with Tracy the question is always how can I help you guys had a rough week how can we help the staff one of the many things that you can see Tracy doing to support our students and staff is pushing the treat trolley around on a regular basis it always brightens the day snacks sometimes presents uh always a a flavored uh sparkling water for me which I appreciate and sweet and salty thank you and just taking care of everybody that's that's what comes to mind when I think about Tracy is taking care of others so thank you very much for all that you do I was asked to be brief otherwise I would go on all night but thank you so much for all the work that you do thank you [Applause] you

stand right there I am going to be a little longer than Mr Fender because my volunteer of the Year Roy loves being in the Limelight in the center of attention this is um this is such a great time of the year with all the events we have going on over the next couple months I mean with concerts with musicals with academic Awards programs prom after prom Senior Week graduation just lots and lots of wonderful things going on and this does even include board meetings as in May we'll be approving the candidates for graduation which is definitely a highlight of the year but focusing on tonight in this board meeting turpin's volunteer of the year we are so fortunate to have such involved parents within our community and because of them we are able to do

so many more things with kids that we would never ever be able to do without them turpin's volunteer of the Year miss Karen Thorpe again has really embraced Turpin High School and is so much part of our culture in our in our terpen community she's involved in so many things supporting and showing appreciation to our students and our staff she's the chair of our after prom an event that really involves lots of our students and provides such a safe and fun event and that alone is very deserving of this award with all the work that goes along with that but she doesn't stop there all year long she does things with our t-shirts a show they are appreciated from snacks to lunches to gift cards to games to a little trolley that they roll around

themselves in all the hallways to hand out stuff and with the time that she has left she continues to support other programs such as our theater and our band again making sure that those students are appreciated and recognized for all the work in the many hours they put into their performance she's an amazing lady and Turpin is thankful to have her and she's a Spartan for Life congratulations oh good evening to Echo Mr Spencer Mr fendo Mr Fender already shared um so grateful to have the opportunity to celebrate our volunteers this time of year the magic that we can do in the classroom and outside the classroom every day is in no small effort due to the the work of our volunteers and everything they do so we're so thankful for that at Nagel we

are working hard to celebrate and to do great things for our kids while they're at Nagle but also the transition that happens at into the high school and then into the middle school for our sixth graders so Colleen Berliner is our volunteer of the year at Nagel and we are so grateful for everything that she does she's the kind of person that steps up when other people aren't available earlier this year she stepped into the role to welcome her staff when some of our other volunteers weren't available she also works our concession stand and gets all of our volunteers so all of the talkies that our students love to grab during our sporting events or thanks to her she'll be with us tomorrow night when we welcome our sixth grade families to Nagel greeting them

with the in the spirit shop and then also making sure we have popcorn and all the goodies for them so we're so grateful for everything that you do for all of our students [Applause] hi everyone I'm Heather Holly I'm the principal at air Elementary thank you for having us here tonight I am here to honor and recognize Randy lairmore she is our volunteer of the Year recipient Brandy has supported air for several years but recently the past two years she's been our PTA president Brandy's selfless and generous attitude often show up in many ways that are behind the scenes and without recognition like all the other volunteers but the truth is that Brandy should be recognized she should be honored because of her tireless work in making air a better place for every student parent

and staff member I asked both of her daughters secretly so hopefully they didn't tell you I asked both of her daughters that currently attend air what is their favorite thing that their mom has done just in these past two years and both of them separately talked about our Outdoor Classroom it is truly a magical space it's all from PTA donations and we couldn't be happier our students thrive in this Outdoor Learning environment I asked our staff what they appreciated most about your support Brandy and they just said it doesn't matter she supports everybody not just teachers she supports everybody she supports teachers who don't even have who Brandi has not even had their own children so we are so thankful for that it is my pleasure and honor to recognize Brandy this evening and show

her immense gratitude for her dedication to our school she is truly a Tinkerbell if she if there is an issue she goes around and sprinkles her dust everywhere so we are so excited and thankful for all of her Sparkles thank you Randy good evening I'm Joy O'Brien and I am the principal at Maddox the volunteer of the year for Maddox is Alex manogen Alex is one of the first people I met when I was hired last spring she connected with me immediately was welcoming kind and just ready to work together to benefit our mustangs from popsicles with the principal last summer to the walkathon to in the fall to monthly staff treat carts goodies with grants conference meals coin words upcoming Carnival and so much more she has led it all and when Miss Milligan

this great learning space Katie just had a second phase approved by the zoning to put up Shades so we're super excited about that this year hopefully that'll happen the next few weeks um Katie has two children at Sherwood Cameron is fifth grader and Maddie first grader both students shared that their if there is one thing that their mom is great at it's being a mom Maddie shared that she is not only a mom but a teacher for the Ohio Virtual Academy PTO president a girl scout leader and a dance mom Maddie and Cameron also shared that Mom is special because she is amazing and always takes care of not only them but all the archers on behalf of the Sherwood family we thank you for all your hard work and dedication to our community [Applause]

of this honor when I talked to her son Joey who is in fifth grade he says I like having her at all the musicals because she does a great job and she really puts a lot of effort into helping with the play plus I really love Hamming her around in something I'm involved in she is very dedicated and makes sure everyone is happy and well taken care of what I love about Allison receiving this award is that she is a full-time teacher in another school but even with that huge responsibility and time commitment she prioritized this as something that was not only important for her children but for all Summit students thank you so much Allison for your time and dedication to our fine arts program over the years and congratulations on this recognition thank

you [Applause] foreign store the principal at Wilson volunteers are an invaluable resource to our Wilson Community we are grateful and honored that Tracy papenheimer is one of those volunteers she is Dependable dedicated and despite her extremely busy schedule she always seems to make time for Wilson we often joke that Tracy needs an office at Wilson because she is constantly doing things to help our community whether it's working on the PTO budget as our PTO treasurer sorting and organizing countless lost and found items or volunteering in the workroom she is a consistent fixture at Wilson Tracy is always thoughtful and willing to help Wilson thrives because of committed volunteers like Tracy I am really grateful to know Tracy as a parent volunteer PTO executive committee member and a friend and as her friend I do need

to share that not only is she getting this award tonight but it is also her birthday so a kapow shout out to that because that's pretty amazing as well so congratulations Tracy [Applause] of course I don't know if do you want to get some pictures no no go ahead and then we'll move on make sure you don't trip over your cars keep your eyes down yeah I'm out of cords Jolly Motors no bunny ears nobody might need to squish together squished together squish laughs all right thank you [Applause] next we have item 4.2 the Forest Hill School District Community Partnerships with Melody hartel okay good evening I'm Melanie Hartung I'm the Community Partnership specialist in Forest Hills and I do want to take some time to talk about the program I promise I won't take

too much time not because it's not important but because I know there's a million other things that are equally as important but I'm going to step to the side for a moment so that you can watch a video that explains the why behind our program PS5 like the numbers [Music] I just grew up playing sports [Music] um I really like to just being around people I like English I like how other kids that everyone is different in anything um explain like projects well because because they might start out about material and make something like maybe a logo this is so that's a little bit of our why um we have a unique School District where we are in a sense one big community so I wanted to make sure that we represented our entire District

in creating that video that explains why a program like this would exist our teens now may not know what they want to be so we can go to the next slide we have Partnerships in these fields of Interest we have Partnerships in Construction and design in the nursing field in non-profits in the supply chain industry in Horticulture we've worked really hard to establish Partnerships with as many different opportunities for students as we can our program here has three unique Pathways this benefits our students and it benefits our Community Partners our first pathway is an internship and with an internship a student will partner with an organization and they will essentially spend a set amount of time each week learning from there we go learning from their partner organization building skills that are relevant to that

field our second pathway is shadowing and with a shadowing opportunity students may have more than one Community partner that serves as a person that can answer their questions that can guide them towards further Partnerships and in our workshops I'm actually really proud we have right now that's our third pathway we can move to the next our third pathway is our workshops where organizations are willing to serve their time time to educate our students about a variety of things in March we had a workshop that was really career awareness we assembled a panel where individuals throughout the community kind of explained their job and the training and education that they needed to have that job and just last night we held a workshop where several Community Partners came and provided mock interviews to our students resume

building guidance and we're really pleased with how that went everything that our students learn we can move to the next slide everything that our students learn ties to our portrait of a learner so we want our students to be critical thinkers and empathetic communicators and problem solvers and engaged collaborators and adaptable Learners our students participate by discussing these very topics on schoology with me regularly throughout the course of their partnership experience so I thought you might want to hear from some students who are actually part of our program so I'll invite them to come up now we have Anjali Rahman she's a junior at Turpin kashish Patel she's a junior at Anderson Tori guy is a junior at Turpin and Connor Bergman is a sophomore at Anderson so how about I don't know Connor you

want to come up first okay hi my name is Connor Bergman and I'm a sophomore at Anderson High School over the past six or so weeks I've been an intern at Ortho Cincy which is an orthopedic and sports medicine practice here in Cincinnati should I just subscribe you can go to that actually maybe the this one right here so do you mind explaining a little bit about what we're seeing in those pictures yeah so in that middle picture we were actually at Ortho Cincy last week and we were in the casting room um we were doing fiberglass casts on each other so that was really interesting we got to we worked with two athletic trainers who walked us through the process of just getting the leg ready to be casted and then actually applying the

fiberglass which is a very interesting process and then we also on the left side of that image you can see a little canister and we used the saw to cut off the cast so that was a very interesting process and it's really a skill that most 16 year olds and most high schoolers don't have most adults don't even have that kind of skill so it's a really great program that gives us a variety of different skills we can use so through the Community Partnership program I have attended a career fair at NKU I've also got an interview for inter-parish Food Ministries which is coming up and I attended today I attended a supreme court visit where we went to see a trial take place at the Ohio Supreme Court and I also last night attended

the mock interview Workshop I really think that the mock interview Workshop told me so many things about building my resume and what people are going to be looking for and it was so helpful especially since I have something an interview through the Community Partnership program coming up I actually made a LinkedIn after attending the mock interview workshop and I really think that the Community Partnership program has given me like the opportunities for these interviews and things but it's also given me like the information and the resources I need to succeed at them so I think it's very well-rounded and she's also an intern at yes so I did get to go to both the orthoscency internship and then today I did the Ohio Supreme Court visit and my favorite thing about this program is just

that I've had the opportunity to see so many different things because I don't know what I want to do I really have no idea so um with the ortho Cincy program I've shadowed a radiologist a physical therapist I've watched an ACL surgery on a cadaver um we did the casting lab we have more coming up and with the Ohio Supreme Court I got to watch an actual appeal be made to the Ohio Supreme Court today and we got a q a with the lawyers and we also got a tour of the law school which was pretty awesome hi my name is kishis Patel I'm currently doing an internship with rocketvid mortgage company and when I met with Nikki and Angela they told me about all the different Finance opportunities that are in the field as

well as the accounting opportunities and currently I work with their staff accountant and work through all the things that she's doing currently with the reconciliation process of going through all the transfers with their Banks and all their software and I get my own account of their software and I know I wouldn't have been able to work with that software without this partnership or get any experience in the finance industry without this partnership I think that's pretty much it so I'll go sit back out unless you guys have any questions just thank you Melanie this program this is really great what you're doing thank you so much I took so many notes I went down the whole entire page thank you so much that was wonderful item 5.0 that reports to the Board of Education we

have the Forest Hills Teachers Association report hello I appreciate the time you give myself and the Forest Hills Teachers Association each month to directly speak to you I have three brief messages for you this evening first the Forest Hill School District Board of Education voted unanimously on January 18th to place a combined General operating and general permanent improvements Levy on the May 2nd ballot since that decision the Forest Hills Teachers Association has been working tirelessly with its own members living in Anderson and Newtown and members of their households to communicate the importance of being informed before making a decision on May 2nd we will also continue to inform Educators who are employed in other school districts living in Anderson Newtown on the implications to students of both the past and a failed Levy scenario second

many of us who have children being educated in Forest Hills see firsthand what the Forest Hills School District provides my son for instance is one of many students who has benefited from the expert guidance of a reading specialist this year the confidence of these students has increased learning gaps were addressed and they are gearing up to tackle next year reading intervention services that these students received this year will be strongly impacted in a failed Levy scenario these reading interventions we currently provide are critical to the support systems necessary for Student Success third should the result of the May 2nd Levy not be a positive one Mr hook has already announced that there will be reductions in programming to Media instruction gifted Services special education coordination and our K-12 music program as I've acknowledged with you

before these decisions are not easy to make we are a high performing school district for a reason we provide services to students that go well above and beyond State minimum standards services that students and families have become accustomed to maybe in jeopardy the Forest Hill school district has made a commitment to our students teachers and staff to meet the high expectations that our community demands fhta has always been dedicated to this level of service on May 2nd we hope the community shares our commitment in closing I want to thank our community groups who have been working diligently to support the students and staff of Forest Hill School District we look forward to continued collaboration this spring with our community the Forest Hill School District and the Forest Hills District Board of Education usually as you

know I would stay for the duration of this board meeting however today is my son's birthday and I need to join my family for his celebration so with that said I want to thank you for your attentiveness this evening thank you thank you thank you item 5.2 The Forest Hills foundation for Education report all right good evening well I'm here tonight to share some love because I think in the world that we live in today I was pulling into the parking lot tonight tonight and I was like wow I cannot find anywhere to park and I looked around and there was a softball game going on we're all here there was football going on or lacrosse maybe and the reason I point that out is because I am constantly reminded I went to a Turpin

boosters event this weekend that this community comes together and this community is about being student centered and this community is about coming together to support our kids and so on behalf of the Forest Hills Foundation we are really excited for one of our upcoming events it's our signature event it is the Forest Hills 5K we hope you will join us on Saturday May 13th we currently have about 1100 people signed up last year we had about 2600 so we are still if you have not signed up we encourage you to do so I also want to give a shout out to all of our business partners you can go to the next slide one of the other things I love about this community is local businesses really stepping up to say we want to support

the kids and so again I just want to give a shout out to all of our 2023 Forest Hills 5K sponsors and their continued commitment to support the students here at Forest Hills so if you have not signed up we encourage you to do so how we can continue to come together that's what I always like to say this is a wonderful Event Event in which we are able to do that so we hope you will join us on Saturday May 13th the early bird registration does will be ending the end of this month so if you haven't registered make sure you do that after me after April 30th the cost will go up and again we hope you will join us there's a lot of ways to get involved if you're not a runner

or rocker you can cheer on people you can attend the after party and you can also donate so with our commitment to step into Wellness we want to continue to support all Forest Hill students and the work that the foundation does and it takes a lot of people to do that and so we look forward to seeing you on Saturday May 13th thank you [Applause] thank you item 6.0 the superintendent update president osfeld hopefully you had a chance to notice some of the artwork as you came into the building tonight um and I just certainly want to take that this moment to recognize those 60 very talented art students from our six Elementary buildings if you didn't have a chance to check out the displays on your way out take a look take a moment

or two it's pretty amazing artwork each building selected 10 fantastic pieces of artwork to share with you this amazing display is thanks to the guidance and hard work of Leslie Pinto or our teacher at Summit Elementary and Jessica Barr our Mercer Elementary art teacher so all those students whose projects were selected will receive a certificate of appreciation so again make sure you stop out and see our great artwork um next I also want to add my thanks to the volunteers that were recognized earlier but not even just those all of the volunteers they're just an enormous Army of volunteers that support Forest Hill school districts countless hours and hard work without these individuals this just wouldn't be the same school district that we all care for and love so thank you um next I do

want to take a moment to address the information that I shared with all parents yesterday regarding our investigation into a matter involving the current Turpin staff member and a former Forest Hill student as is our protocol when we first learned of the concern we placed the staff member the staff member on administrative leave contacted the Hamilton County Sheriff's department and immediately launched our internal investigation believe me when I say we take all these matters incredibly seriously as they involve the safety of our students and staff and since this continues to be an active and ongoing investigation I cannot provide any additional details at this moment I will certainly be sure to keep you guys informed as we progress so with that I wanted to also share a little bit of what a handful of us

actually quite an army actually I'm facetious an army of volunteers have been spending most of their days and nights countless hours again working on the upcoming Levy I just want to remind people especially those that may be just tuning in and and maybe aren't even aware that this is what's going on you know what's fantastic about Forest Hills is the connections that we make and the connections to school is and has to our community both here in Anderson Township and and new Tennessee and the village of Newtown we've got an adopt a roadway coming up a little program at our Elementary's uh do that's going to start next week earlier this week or all of our second graders got to go to the Anderson Center that was that was cool if you haven't done so

you need to go there because it's not just for second graders it's for anybody it's they got a whole history of Anderson Township downstairs and the displays are just outstanding and all of our second graders got to go through and see what township government's like and what they do they got to got to sit in a sheriff's uh car a back back seat and course officer Wolfe said this is the only time you get to sit in this seat so but they all had a blast and got to visit with a lot of the Personnel from Anderson Township thank you for that tremendous partnership that we share with them and again just Echo again all of our volunteers that really support all of our kids you know what makes this such a unique place is

the high quality education that goes on in Anderson schools and Anderson and Forest Hill School District at Turpin High School Anderson High School both recognized in the top five percent of schools in Ohio all six of our elementaries have been recognized as Hall of Fame elementary schools you don't just do that you know you just don't you know hey let's throw our name in the Hat and you get picked it's because your performance it's because our kids and our teachers and staff you know take this seriously and just do a great job we've got nationally recognized music programs district-wide or PBIS program receive recognition of Excellence so this is a great School District make no mistake and so I just want you to be aware and and I'm always going to start off with that

because that's who we are um I do also want to make sure that people understand what this Levy moving forward [Music] we wanted to be as lean as possible while maintaining a high level of performance and support for our kiddos um that's really kind of the goal So currently we are planning 750 000 in reductions regardless of the results of the of the May Levy this is the tightening the belt portion where we really try to you know just we want to be responsible for the taxpayer dollars but I also want people to understand this isn't just this didn't just happen here okay since the last living in 2019 and it started in 2018 there's been 2.7 million dollars in reductions to the general fund so this is this is an ongoing effort it will

continue to be an ongoing effort after the results of the levy we will continue to always look for efficiencies I think anytime we can be efficient and provide high quality performance that's a good thing um so what is it again just a quick re overview com It's a combination the levy and that's actually what it'll be called okay total of 6.9 mils of which 5.4 mils are operating Levy and a very important 1.5 meals of permanent Improvement now just so you have an understanding the permanent Improvement fund is designed for Capital Improvements the buildings the maintenance of the buildings repair of systems hvacs you know roof asphalt technology those things that have a life expectancy of five years or more okay so it's not spent on on salaries and it's not spent on operations it's

spent on the investment that this community has made in nine school buildings and three District buildings so it's critical because currently that money's coming right out of the general fund which we have to fix we have to put a hole in that in that dike okay just a reminder for a hundred thousand dollar market a home market value this is based off of the county auditor uh it's twenty dollars and thirteen cents a month um so that's we always use a hundred thousand dollars because of the math just easy math um again I do want to say we've already done the calculation for these um home market value is what the auditor says your home or property is worth it's not what necessarily you would go out if you contracted a realtor and we're selling

your house you might make a lot more okay it's usually a pretty conservative number okay and the taxes are based on 35 percent of that market value just enough to know um so next is the levy Passage two things obviously that I got to deal with and one is what does it mean when we when we pass what is it certainly um but most importantly is it maintains our current educational standards okay we're not adding programs but it maintains what we're doing our support systems that Mr Preston talked about um because that's really what makes a difference in in performance okay it's fine you know that support for kids that are gifted or or not are struggling we we provide those supports to help those kiddos achieve and move and matriculate successfully through our our

schools uh it'll keep our class sizes at a similar level as they are now currently we're in the 18. our goal is always being for Elementary's in the 18 to 24 range we're a little high on the farther in on the fourth fifth sixth more of the fifth and sixth grade a little bubbles going through there obviously with the younger children you want a little bit you know less class size this is statistically uh important for us the high schools secondary level where we shoot for that 22 to 24 range and that's kind of where we're right at when you look at our core courses and that's what you have to look at when you're looking at you know what what's the student teacher ratio you got to look at the core courses you can't

really look at the like well like music gosh those things can be had a lot of kids in them you know so um but the core courses um are what's critical so people can see that um it also is going to allow us it is so important that we attack the maintenance and repair of our nine buildings and our district buildings we have to do that um we just we're so far behind the eight ball here there is a point in our website and you can go to it um it's very easy to find and we've got listed the most most important needs and we've ranked those and um as this moves forward we're going to go down that list as as aggressively as we can but still spend wisely okay um and I'm apologize

for anybody that's heard this so many times like I said we've been on the band the band trip you know all around in the evening so but I'm sure there's plenty of people that haven't heard it and an opportunity failure of this we have to adjust it's not by choice you were required by Ohio law okay we're gonna have to adjust um which means our class sizes are going to go up um it's going to be why because we're reducing teachers it's kind of math simple math that's going to happen especially in again our core courses the ones that every everybody has to take um it's going to be a less robust personalized learning that's that really has impacted mainly through professional development of our teachers and because we're going to have to move starting

times and adjust those the ability to have all of our like say all of our elementary teachers meet right after school or meet at a common time will be a challenge because they'll be working different hours so that that that's Troublesome obviously for for an educator and re and uh reduced support staff uh fewer students able to and I mentioned this before future few uh fewer students being able to take interventions services from a reading specialist I just won't have as many of those on hand we just won't be able to to fund it it's going to impact uh gifted it's going to impact delivery of of some music Services it's gonna you know some of our pull out instruction so you know I think May 2nd is an important date be informed that's my

that's my message is to be informed okay um you can go out and listen to a lot of stuff in a lot of places and I'll be honest with you some of it's so far off the mark it's it's just ridiculous but there is one place and that's our website okay if you go to our website you're going to see this little red box if you click it it'll take you right there you only have to search it it'll go right through it we're just putting factual information on it's important school districts do that put out the facts an informed electorate is an informed electorate and that's what's that's what's critical and that's what we need in America um one other thing I thought I would bring up is uh I don't know if you

know this yet [Laughter] we're going to try to do something different here uh have a live Levee presentation just brief overview again it'll be myself and and Alana our Treasurer will be live on YouTube on the evening of just another evening here's one more on Tuesday April 25th seven o'clock uh to 7 45 it would be a brief overview of the what's on the ballot and we'll take questions um Josh bazan our Communications coordinator is going to be our mediator but we would ask that you if you've got questions already you've heard the presentation or maybe even from tonight feel free to send it to contact at foresteals.edu you can submit during during that as well and we'll we'll have a 20 minute or so q a and anything that we don't get to will

are great especially my teacher Mrs Holt she's kind of awesome please vote Yes on May 2nd for me and everybody thank you next up is Jane mctai here's why you should vote Yes for the levy number one if the levy fails then my school will have to start earlier and I don't want to have to wake up super duper early and feel like all the life has been sucked out of me at school number two if the Levee fails and my teachers will have to have bigger classrooms with more kids and they shouldn't have to deal with more Little Squirts like me it's about yes thank you next up is Marie McGarry hello when I think of Anderson the first thing that comes to my mind is a great school district and a family-oriented community

over the last four years my children and Heir have been blessed to work with various specialists provided a wealth of much needed support I want parents to under I'm so imperative to get out there and vote for this upcoming Levy if you think that your child is not going to be affected by this Levy please think again they will your child enjoys specials enrichment interventions even if they just sit at their teacher's desk and read with them one-on-one our teachers will be spread so thin all those extra supports will be taken away and we need them I can't bear to lose any of our amazing phenomenal teachers that help our kids on a daily basis in order to keep great families coming to Anderson and staying in Anderson we need to preserve our school district

it is one of the biggest assets to our community if our school district declines less people move here home values decrease and businesses suffer thank you thank you very much [Applause] next up I have a first name of Eli hello my name is Eli I go to Wilson Force told Prides itself on Excellence for me that's yellow ELO stands for Extended Learning opportunities this is the gifted program in Forest Hills Elementary Schools students in Elo are identified by as gifted in math it also incorporates other areas of learning as long as I can remember I've Loved math ELO puts me in a class with other kids who are passionate about math with Eli the same teacher for three years at Wilson that's Mrs Heisman she really knows me and how I work she knows how

to challenge me so I can do math that's not too easy for me in Elo I get to do math that's above my grade level I stay engaged more in Elo than in regular math I could ever and I get a lot of yellow which would be changed drastically or eliminate if the lobby fails I hope that the community votes to support me and the other students at Forest Hills thank you thank you Mr Eli next up will be Maya grannon um hello my name is Maya ganim I'm a sophomore at Turpin as you can probably see extracurriculars take up a lot of my time at Turpin um I've CR I've left a dress rehearsal for the spring musical How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying in order to speak to you today we're

up is Melinda trillio good evening my name is Mindy Trujillo and I am an English teacher and the ELA department chair at Tarpon High School I am a proud public educator and I consider myself incredibly blessed to be a part of the Forest Hill School District at Turpin I collaborate with teachers who are incredibly dedicated and put the needs of the students first the work day is very rarely over at 2 40 and some of my co-workers are there much before seven we have a culture and a climate that encourages support and care for one another and we drive each other to be better as someone who believes education is a calling I get to witness day in and day out teachers were finding their craft because it's what's best for students it all goes

back to the kids I have bright creative intelligent hard-working driven children who challenge me to be the best teacher that I can they have varied interests goals and gifts and they deserve to be our top priority the students in Forest Hills deserve the best quality of Education possible and this is why I vote for this Levy is so important we show up for students thank you next up [Applause] Amy Miller good evening last month I spoke to you all about opportunities that my children had to explore passions that interested them and that are shaping their careers tonight I would like to talk about the choices that we as parents teachers District leaders businesses and residents have made and continue to make everyone in this room has one thing in common we chose to live in

Anderson Township and the village of Newtown I feel confident our schools played a huge part in that decision some of you were born and raised here and stayed here to raise your families some of you moved away and returned some like me aren't from here but chose this community we have stayed and some have stayed here well into their empty nest and retirement years on May 2nd we will have another choice to make we will be given the opportunity to decide what kind of District we want to live in what kind of opportunities we want our students and the resources to become the best they can be on May 2nd we have a choice to make one that goes beyond yes or no we will be deciding what kind of District we want to live

in thank you okay so the next one is and I'm sorry if I can't read this very clearly but um k k Castle Brink Brinker foreign yes my name is Kay castlebrinker empty nester for 20 years Anderson Township resident for 39 years proud mother of four sons who have graduated from Turpin and four different universities each successful in their varied careers but more importantly good men husbands and fathers and I attribute a lot of their success to the Forest Hill School District and its staff Who challenged my sons to think of think on their own be creative analyze and act respectful to all others around them I'm grateful for their education that my sons received here and while I have no direct relatives in this system right now I want all the children of Newtown

and Anderson Township to have a similar high quality education like my boys enjoyed I am one that believes that the strong Public School along with our brothers and sisters of parochial and private are what make a community and what make our country great I also had a 35-year plus career thank you very much [Applause] next up is Michelle Easton hello how are you guys um so as a member of the levy committee I have had the opportunity to meet many amazing community members and learn why they love our schools and community the reasons may vary but it can be summed up by the diverse opportunities um excuse me I'm so sorry and hearing that there is something for everyone in our district the most impactful has been what we have heard from students things such

as I have loved every teacher I have had please don't let any of them lose their jobs or I love starting band in fifth grade I really hope that stays or we appreciate the school start time being changed eight o'clock please don't let our start times be moved any earlier I don't get enough sleep as it is bottom line our District offers many diverse opportunities to make us a high performing District listen to what is important to our kids and I want to thank you our board members and our community for your yes vote on May 2nd thank you next up we have Ashley Huebner and there's another Huebner that I'm sorry I can't read the first name it's Alexis I'm sorry Alexa so hi everybody I'm Ashley a sophomore at Anderson and just when

I thought I found my place at Anderson this next Levy is threatening to take it away until this past winter I had no idea what I wanted to do I had nothing I was interested and I did not want to go to college if I hadn't stepped out of my comfort zone I still would not be motivated for my future I decided to jump in to the amazing film program Anderson has to offer and was most recently the assistant cinematographer on our main stage film I've now decided that I went to go into the film industry and major in in college the program in classes have given me so many great experiences and continue to teach me skills that I will use in my real life this Levee passing is very important to me some

of my most useful classes like film are in danger to continue learning and getting a head start on my future career I need it to pass students feel like they belong at Forest Hills because of our programs if this Levy fails it will rob us out of our individuality thank you thank you Alexis hi I'm Alexis hubenote and I hate going to school there are my friends a few special teachers and classes that are actually topics I'm interested in that are keeping me going if this love you fails all of my motivation will go down the drain because it shows that the community does not care about our lives After High School when we the students have heard of what will happen if the levy fails we've heard that the Levee failing would cut 15

of other newer and younger teachers but in reality most of these teachers are the ones that are actually able to make connections with students and get them to show up at school and keep trying currently in my favorite class we don't have ceiling panels because the weather has ruined them so there's a trash can catching smelly water there's nothing we can do about that because there's no money to fix it so if it fails our whole school will be like that which is not a place I want to learn it when I wake up in the mornings keeping in mind a half an hour earlier I'll have zero motivation to go to school because my favorite parts of Anderson can no longer be funded and kept up with it's no surprise that as a district

our students mental health is struggling if this Levy fails it fails the students thank you next up is Tracy Ruger hi my name is Tracy hubner my daughter's reached out to me earlier this week at separate times and said they wanted to speak at tonight's meeting I never suggested it or encouraged it they wanted to do it on their own that's why I love this school district my teen daughters are passionate about their school and they are independent thinkers who want to help their community over the past 12 years I've gotten to know a lot of Staff members in Forest Hills I know that we have a lot of amazing staff members like my son's fifth grade teacher who got excited got him excited about trying new books during the mock Newberry my juniors teacher

Academy teacher who is preparing her to become a teacher herself and my sophomore's film teacher who's getting her excited about film and one of my biggest fears if this Levy fails is that the best staff members will start leaving Forest Hills my kids will lose the teachers who care about them the most not only will we stuck with all the cutbacks like the larger class sizes but the best staff members will be gone that's why we must vote Yes on May 2nd to keep our staff members present thank you thank you next up is Allison Copley my name is Allison Copley I am the proud parent of two Forest Hills students my children have been enrolled in the district since the fall of 2017. my oldest is a sophomore at Anderson High School he started

his school years at CPS my youngest is nearing the end of his time at Sherwood Elementary and will attend Nagle next school year in their first weeks at Fort as Forest Hills students my boys would come home from school thanking their father and me for moving they loved their new school their teachers and the friends that they were making to this day my teenager still thanks us and tells us how happy he is to be a student at Anderson High School Graham played two years of golf while at Nagel and he played two years of JV golf at Anderson he made the varsity bowling team his freshman as a new bowler and this year he was the only sophomore boys bowler to finish in the top eight in the Eastern Cincinnati conference he is taking

intro to photography this school year where he has found an interest in the Digital Arts he applied to participate in the Community Partnership program and was hmm thank you next up is Peter I'm sorry Francis you got it that was correct thank you my name is Peter frankus I'm at 1045 Brook Avenue and I am in my 10th year of education and I'm proud to still be here in the Forest Hills School District I'm a media center specialist at Maddox Elementary and if the levy does not pass three of the six Media Center specialists in Forest Hills will lose that job title now I'll still have a job in the traditional classroom if I choose to take that however a new teacher will lose their job I remember how excited I was when I first

came to Forest Hills and it was an honor and it still is this day so it breaks my heart that if the levy fails I would ultimately be taking somebody else's position if I choose to do so I believe in what we're doing in the media center we have an amazing stem program and the students look forward to coming to me every single week I see them in the hallways and they say Mr frankus I have you for media on Wednesday I don't want to have to go back to them at the end of the school year and tell them that the program may never look the same we are helping them to be lifelong Learners and to go into career Fields out across all of the United States and Beyond thank you for your

time and please vote a yes on May 2nd thank you next up anchor I'm Robert Baker president OBC Local 177 I represent the bus drivers custodians maintenance Personnel Cooks administrative assistants and health aides I'm also the head custodian Turpin High School thank you for this time to speak I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens for Forest Hills committee for all the amazing work that they've done on our behalf I want to thank Amy Michelle Amy Mr hook Miss Cropper and dozens and dozens of others that have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen the work this group has accomplished in a very short period of time is unbelievable they have organized administrated attended meetings raised funds and hosts of other events that will surely go unnoticed so from the bottom

of my heart and on behalf of all the classified staff thank you very much for your time up until now I've chosen not to speak directly about the school levy and the importance of its passage as the head custodian of Turpin High School I can tell you how important it is to pass the operation part of the levy our buildings are old they need constant love to keep them operating to the standards we expect this is an important Levy to pass May 2nd is the date thank you [Applause] thank you next up is Robert I'm sorry Jeff Nye please hi Jeff Nye 1000 eversole I wasn't going to talk about this today but I'm a lawyer so I was also at the Ohio Supreme Court arguments today the purpose of the program is to get

high school students out seeing cases talking to lawyers about them I didn't know until afterward that Forest Hill students were there they had some great questions they learned about the cases the system they talked to some of the lawyers who are really at the peak of the profession arguing before the court was really great um I mentioned it for two reasons one is if we don't pass this Levy that's the type of program that might disappear getting them off-site to this sort of thing might not be an option so let's get the levy passed the second thing and you know I'm going to bring this up because I do it every month one of the cases the court heard this week is whether to what extent to discipline a judge who made racist comments to

defendants he was sentencing if that case were heard on a day where high school students were there our students couldn't go if that resolution from June were enforced because that would be addressing systemic racism in the judicial system get that resolution repealed in it for all the reasons that we've talked about before such as it's making students feel unwelcome teachers know what to teach it's taking away opportunities from students repeal the resolution past the levy thank you next up is Sarah mcgo hello I am Sarah mcgo I am a parent a volunteer alumni and I am here to say that today I'm thankful I'm thankful to be an alumni of this great District I'm thankful to be a parent of three young kids and an aunt to many nieces and nephews who have or are

currently receiving an excellent education here in Forest Hills I'm thankful to the many teachers custodians counselors principals administrators and so many others who work tirelessly day in and day out for our students myself and many other community members are volunteering on the levy committee to drive the successful passage of this Levy they are parents alumni empty nesters parents of elementary students parents of high school students parents of various backgrounds and political beliefs people who grew up here and people who moved here for the schools I am thankful to each and every free conversation that they have every sign they deliver every graphic they create every video they make every social media post they share and every dollar they donate to fund these efforts they're doing this because they believe this Levy we need it now

there's no time to wait and see we need it now and we can't assume we have the support there because of all the signs around town we need all those sign owners to vote Yes and more vote early at the Board of Elections and put an appointment or put an appointment on your calendar on May 2nd thank you thank you next up Kaylee strasbro hi my name is Kaylee straussball and I'm a junior at Anderson High School I've been a part of Forest Hill school since kindergarten where I attended Sherwood Elementary from being on the wrap and roast team at Sherwood to being a web leader at Nagel and now being a three sport athlete involved in seven clubs my life has been greatly impacted in such a positive way this year as a member

of Hope Squad I've had the opportunity to support students through hope days hope week and wellness week I was chosen this year as a hope Squad Ambassador so I along with ambassadors from other clubs and organizations meet on a regular basis with Mr Fender to discuss how we can improve upon things we already do at Anderson this has helped me become a stronger communicator and listener being a part of student government saw and Link and many more have provided me with leadership and volunteering opportunities as well as being a role model for Anderson playing sports at Anderson has taught me truly what it is like to be on a team as well as to make all the friends I have today Anderson Sports have shown me how hard work and dedication can truly pay off

all of these have truly helped to shape the person I am today as a member of the community I truly strongly truly encourage you to vote Yes on May 2nd to support our current students and the future generations of Forest Hills thank you thank you Debbie Walker good evening my name is Debbie Walker and I live in wolfangel farms my husband and I moved to Forest Hills in 2007 with two children under the age of two we moved here for the schools our son Carson is a junior and our daughter Caitlin is a sophomore at Anderson and we are so grateful for the opportunities that the district has provided to our children today I want to share my son's story with you Carson started talking about college and his future in kindergarten at Sherwood he's

very ambitious in fifth grade he started playing the saxophone now in high school my son is a section leader of the marching band and has had the opportunity to march in New Orleans during Mardi Gras Walt Disney World in Orlando and compete in the bands of America national competition in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis talk about life experiences and memories the experiences Carson has had through this incredible music program is a big part of who he is today he is not here tonight because he is so involved and I just want to say that many of the things he's involved in may not be available to him if this Levy doesn't pass so I urge the community to please pass this Levy and I thought I was going to get more time thank you Kevin

mizek I am Kevin mishak I live in Summit Estates I have two children assist in the system and I appear to be the lone voice of opposition all of my information has been presented to me by Forest Hill School District in the five-year forecast used to support this Levy all right page 14 the first of all in 2021 the average employee salary was 65 360. that was higher than the average employee's salary in Kings Oaks Hills Loveland Sycamore Milford Mariemont Beaver Creek Lakota Madera West Claremont and of course CPS I don't think you'll be leaving anytime soon I looked even closer on page 14 of the five-year forecast used to justify this 10.5 million dollar tax increase on top of the 47 million dollars we already contribute that will increase average benefits of employees four

million dollars a year where is the money going is it going to the children no are the teachers going to be sacrificing no thank you Next Step Wendy tiesman good evening I'm Wendy tiesman I live on Greenleaf Drive in our community I'm a taxpayer I have two sons at Anderson who went through our schools and I'm also a teacher a teacher who pays money out of her pocket to buy materials and supplies in this District this year at Wilson Elementary I work with 87 students daily Monday through Friday in grades four through six and consult with teachers and parents to help students in all grade levels ELO accelerates students learning by compacting four and a half years of math standards into three years it's high accountability to ensure these students make growth progress goals but

it is so much more than that as gifted intervention Specialists we facilitate learning that motivates students we make LED light up cards bugs to show math doesn't bug us design carnival games to study 7th and eighth grade probability when former students are here several former students are here presenting to you that I have taught I am so proud thank you gifted education is worth it it is thank you next up is Thomas Hagedorn [Applause] good evening my name is Tom Hagedorn I've been told by several people in the community that the unanimous vote by the board to put the levy on the ballot does not mean that they're all in favor of it for those of us who have not yet voted it would be very helpful if all board members individually clearly indicated whether

they were personally going to vote or had already voted yes or no each of you have more information more insight on this than anybody else in the community will you all tonight please simply indicate whether you personally have voted or will vote yes or no on this Levy this does not constitute campaigning because you're just expressing your personal opinion and not telling anyone else how to vote so I I just you know we've got a lot of people here by the time we get to the board session there won't be many of us here can you just simply give us a quick yes or no where do you stand thank you thank you next up is Toby biederman foreign I'm a band director here in Forest Hills as well as a proud dad to three

at Turpin and Sherwood I'm here tonight to share with you all some great news that is hot off the presses as with 3 14 this afternoon for the past 24 years the National Association of Music merchants or Nam has designated a number of districts Across the Nation as a best community for music education the process is a lengthy survey that considers student-teacher ratios participation rates teacher qualifications as well as Community Support I am happy to report that once again in 2023 the Forest Hill school district has been selected as one of our nation's best communities for music education yeah thank you pretty excited middle paragraphs gone one minute I also share a warning to all those who share to hear it best communities for music education support and grow their Arts programs they do not

cut music educators my optimistic nature would like to believe that May 2nd will go our way and all will be good I'm also pragmatic enough to know that we all need to be proactive now to ensure that the levy passes I implore all of us to do whatever we can do within our sphere of influence Community member board member teacher Township Trustee to be a vocal advocate for our kids our Levy and our public schools because our kids need us thank you thank you you know next up Amber Mays and then last up is Gayle Gail Gaston go Garza I'm sorry she's on the list at the last meeting Sarah again you cited Ibraham X kindy for the source of your definition of anti-racism that you tried to ban in the resolution it's very clear

that you did not actually read his book at all so I've given you a copy which you've declined but cheers to keep marked on that copier at least two of many places in which he States his definition of anti-racism as any idea that suggests racial racial groups are equals and there's nothing right or wrong with any racial group it's in the book you clearly didn't read so even if you're going to say that's the definition you were referring to you're still saying you're against the idea that all racial groups are equal again it doesn't even make sense that you're trying to use a definition that's not even the legal definition of a word but since you are at least maybe learn what that definition actually is you guys need to get rid of the very

clearly racist resolution and while I was at first against the levy because I saw it as supporting a school board that has let my family down my perspective has changed I now see supporting the levy as a way to make sure my kids and future students are supported despite the school board letting them down so by moving with the levy I will stand up against your resolution time is over thank you Amber [Applause] I think that's it okay I'm sorry I'm sorry oh oh sorry I'm sorry this is Erica Nicholas of in Sherwood Forest uncertainty is the word that often comes to my mind when I think of the state of current affairs and you know what our brains like they like certainty I know I'm a mental health professional we like knowing what's on

the other side of a decision and naturally when uncertainty is present fear sets in we feel vulnerable we respond by pulling in the reins we protect ourselves we protect our families we hold on tighter assets and we prepare it's not not it's all not only natural it's instinctual let's be honest for hard-working individuals it feels like a lot to ask for additional tax dollars on top of our daily battles in this uncertain life our instinct is to hold these dollars tight and to keep the wallets closed my mom is 80. she owns a home here in Anderson I asked her about the levy she said to me this is really hard you know we talked about it I know it's hard she's retired she's on a fixed income but yet she's still voting yes for

this Levy granted she's got kids in this district and so she has a vested interest I get it let's be honest there's many of us here that are very much know how we're going to vote but for those of you that are ambivalent those that are on the fence I ask that you consider the longer term investment when we limit any child we limit any individual Nicholas thank you very much appreciate it thank you yes next up is business operations so I'm sorry I thought you weren't here when I called you before I'm sorry but we don't yield time I mean when I call your name I would like for you to approach I did not know that in advance so and we don't yield thank you very much yes Mr Eckert please approach the

podium thank you well this is how I normally feel the room starts emptying as soon as I get up here yeah and my scars have stole the stove Miss Tinsley was telling me it was for me so now I have a few people coming down to help me with the business report today item eight one um item eight one is a quick overview of the safety presentation for the district what we're going to do we're going to give you a little update on where we are and things we're doing but we want to try to show some things that are happening with safety behind the scenes that you that you do not see on a regular basis so let me introduce who's helping me here we have Emily stanyard the assistant principal at Anderson High

School Joy O'Brien the principal at Maddox and officer woof rsrl but before we begin we'd like to introduce you to some other people Jody want to introduce you to the people up here in the left hand side Brady Eckert Tracy Eckert Brogan Eckert turfman high school students and a Turpin High School teacher Ms standard I have my two sons Alex Daniel number 99 and Bobby Stander number 76 they are sophomore and Junior and my husband Matt standard who's been a teacher in this district for over 20 years and those are my two boys Bryce on the right is 21 and Braden on the left will be 19 in a week and um just Forest Hills former Forest Hill students the reason I'm doing that is any of us you know me know I'll talk about

my family all the time but I want people to understand that the people who take the safety of our schools have a vested interest we send our children to these schools every day we send our wives and husbands to this school every day so we want to ensure the safety for our family as well as everyone else in this District so with that said we'd like to start reviewing a few things real quick we could talk about safety for five hours and with and not scratch the surface but to avoid that what we're going to do is we're going to run through a couple mandated items and uh hit those first as we all know we have the normal drills that we have we've all had as children when we were in there we have

our emergency evacuation drills fancy name change for the fire drills then we have the tornado drills that we do just not where it's mandated April through July I know at Maddox they've done some work with tornadoes drills Joy if you want to talk about a little bit of that real quick yeah just recently we had Anderson Township Fire and Rescue over as well as Mr Eckert to take a look at our tornado Maps we wanted to relocate some students to make sure they were in the safest place possible within our building if we were to have a tornado and that just happened a couple weeks ago so we're always trying to keep up with the the best situations for our students and be proactive in their safety in another and other items we have are

school safety drills known as Alice in this District we use the Alice protocol now with that Joy I'll let Miss O'Brien speak a little bit to the Alice right so Alice stands for alert lockdown and form counter and evacuate and if you want to go ahead Miss McKinley to the next one so in elementary school for Alice we try to keep things very calm and speak in simple terms with the kids because this is a very heavy topic we practice Alice drills to be ready if there's an unsafe situation you know happening in our school so prior to an Alistair and the elementary schools I know all six elementaries align in this that we have a PowerPoint or a slideshow you can see some pictures there from that slideshow in the elementary where we review

the slides of Alice what each letter stands for and we talk about our rally points where we would go if we do need to evacuate and then on drill day we have three types of drills we do we do an all-school lockdown at one point where we practice staying put staying safe barricading the doors and we also have an all School evacuation where we walk and we find our rally points and kids know where to go in a case of an emergency and evacuation and then at the end of the year in the spring we do a situational piece where we make an announcement of where an unsafe situation might be occurring in the building and then students and staff respond to that by staying put and locking down or evacuating based on what they're

they hear and they see and they smell and we just really encourage everyone to use you know all their senses to make the best decision for safety in the elementary school so at the secondary level it's very similar prior to a drill in a variety of capacities we will review with our staff and our students different rally locations and how to make the best informed decision possible there could be a variety of emergencies outside of the community that could in um impact you're building so you may have something like a soft lockdown based on the safety of the students to make sure that no one goes outside to ensure that our kids are in the best possible situation so on drill day we do kind of do the same thing just at a different level

with the high school students a lot of what though I talk to and speak about with our staff and our students is you need to be able to think on your feet right so it's being familiar with your community knowing where are additional spots you can go to who should you check in with it's okay if you're separated from your friends your class your teacher but it's important that you know who to check in in with when and what you should say all of these things are going to be as realistic as possible without inducing panic of course because we know this can be as Mrs O'Brien said this can be very sensitive topic for many students because we certainly live in a different world so we want to make sure that we are doing

everything that we can to make sure our kids our staff members and our community around us understand what we're doing because it can be frightening for our community members as well when they see us out in the parking lots or moving to our secondary location so we try to be as responsive and responsible about that with our community foreign theoretical safety drills are very similar to what I was just saying so we do talk about um providing all this instruction what does it mean to alert what does it mean to lock down to inform to counter and uh to evacuate not all classrooms all staff members all students need to do the same thing so you need to make the best informed decision as I stated earlier I quite simply put to a lot of

people just don't go where the emergency is right like we are all routine creatures of the Habit so you have to make sure that you're very aware of your surroundings and so we kind of put different um scenarios into place we'll discuss them on the PA have teachers do a turn and talk with their classrooms we do those in staff meetings as well and and the theoretical drill was the start of various mandates that we have to do that are sort more behind the scenes one of the mandates is when you go to we have to do table tap exercises every three years by state law we have to work with our administrative teams and support staff to go through three different types of drills the first one is a tabletop drill that is you

could almost liken it to a board game various scenarios will come out and play the teams will start working through how they would respond and where they respond and then you throw in something to mess them up so they have to drop and Punt and move forward with that the other another one of the three drills is a functional exercise I humorously call this a fire drill on steroids this is where the students and everybody have to adapt as as need be a lot of times our partners in the Anderson Township Fire and Rescue will show up and they will send you know some firefighters into the building and they'll block a hallway and say hey this this hallway's on fire so you have to adapt and it's nice to see how the students and

staff adapt immediately to a situation they didn't know was going to be there so that's a functional exercise now there's another much larger exercise and most standard I'm back okay so uh several of you helped out with this last year uh we've had two different uh full-scale exercises we did one at Nagel a couple years ago and then we had one at Turpin this past summer where um much to what Mr Eckert was saying before we take the idea of a tabletop exercise that I've worked with Miss O'Brien on this with TSA our fire department our sheriff department and so forth so you take your tabletop exercise and then you grow it so give us an actual scenario what then kind of worst case scenario would you expect and then how do you respond where

can you like during the uh one in June we had a weather incident at an uh facilities incident at Turpin during a football game at the Anderson turbine football game and so I know some of you participated and we had Outsiders within the community PTO and so forth evaluate what we're doing and then we could also address their questions so what do we need to improve what are maybe things that we didn't Overlook or that we overlooked rather because we sometimes get so laser focused on what we're used to that sometimes we even though I am a parent in the building and in the district that sometimes we you know I don't have little ones anymore so how does that impact you when you have small children what are things that you would think about

so part of that is our as you can see there are family reunification we will do reverse evacuation drills you know you unfortunately you hear about situations where people will pull a fire alarm and then it turns into a shooting incident in a school and so what would you do if you have a false fire alarm and then you have another situation on the out in the perimeter of the school so what would you do but we utilize all the resources around us and the support systems that we have so that we can learn and grow from these and Mr bazan was able to work with the news media they're in full scale and they were able to put together this video for us so tense moments and cries for help [Music] First Responders tending

the victims of a bleacher collapse at a Turpin High School football game everybody's attention thankfully today's events are not real it's a full-scale drill simulating a collapse that resulted in multiple injuries and exercised to test the response of officials and emergency teams we send the lady that we transported 10 patients to area hospitals some of them were with critical injuries the training facilitated by the TSA and First Responders is a complex drug required by the state and covers the district's emergency plan anytime that you have full screw um you have the opportunity for identifying areas it may I think overall I think they did a great job everyone as realistic as possible but we want people to be able to gain knowledge through the process and enjoy you know enjoy making sure we are getting

better at the district The Joint content at times important country a sentiment that is not lost on school officials in Forest Hills your student's safety is our first priority we must keep students safe and they must feel safe when they come into our buildings because until they feel safe the education process is delayed in Anderson Township Whitney Miller wcbm 9 News and those are excellent exercises with all the community collaboration but as you go to the next slide this can't be done without our core team these are all the members that we work with this is a monthly meeting that happens that most people aren't aware of we Communications nurses fire and rescue student services this is where we make things happen and work collectively through there and one of our great Partners is Officer

woof so I'd like officer what this wolf to say a few things my name is Officer wolf I've been with the sheriff's department for 19 years I'm in my second school year as SRO um I have developed a very very good relationship with all the school staff all the administrators they've accepted me kind of in their family my role was to kind of bring a law enforcement perspective to pretty much everything across the board whether there's a crime in a school whether we're planning for a drill you know whether we're setting up building safety pretty much the broad spectrum at all the school buildings so that's kind of my role so on it and I will say uh it's very difficult to do anything without officer well if we talk on a regular basis and

he's a great support and all the other gentlemen that are on the road gentlemen and women that are on the road in Anderson Township are huge assets to the to the school district in addition to our core team for the district we have Building Safety teams in each of our school buildings we have regular meetings as well when we meet as a team within our building we then update staff at staff meetings on anything that's changing with our safety protocols after any drill as well we send out a survey to staff what went well what didn't go well what unexpecteds happen and and what do we need to do and then we rally our building team together after a feedback survey as well and say Here's what the staff says is going well and what

we need to look at to improve which is actually why we had Anderson Township Fire and Rescue and John over recently to look at our tornado Maps we needed we needed to update that we needed to make that work smoother and we were able to do that quickly so again that collaboration with a SRO woof and just our Hamilton County Sheriff's Office in Anderson Township Fire and Rescue is fantastic I feel like I can call officer wolf at any time or text him at any time you know be right there he's in and out of our school schools pretty much daily all of our schools if he can get there and he is there and so I just want to give a shout out to you and thank you for that and all you do

and threat assessment so we also have our threat assessment teams within the within each building so some of the from the district level we have members of our threat assessment teams that do overlap so officer wolf obviously one resource officer for nine buildings he is a member of each but we do have in each of our buildings members that would be administrators counselors teachers we use our school nurse at Anderson as well for a lot of our safety meetings but what's important to know about these threat assessment teams obviously they're mandated as I'm sure many people know but it is not meant to be a punitive thing in terms of student safety but it is meant to be informative to make sure that we can make the best decision possible take information that's brought to

us see what we can do to assess and be better what we're doing to make sure that given the context of the information the situation that we are doing what is best not just for the immediate situation perhaps that has brought to us but in Big Picture the social emotional mental health of the student the physical safety of our students as well as the staff and the parents and community members so we do use all the resources that we have available to us and again it is to promote that safety within our building to make sure that our students first and foremost feel safe while they're there to know that they have a trusted adult that they can go to and that they know we have their best interests at heart when we're making the

decisions that we are and I want to thank the board for allowing us to do this because I think there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that we don't have the opportunity to share with the community so I'm hoping the people that are watching this live and or on recording on YouTube and can see some of these things that you know all these guys including I mean we have other administrators in here and everything that they do every day they all believe the same thing that safety is their first priority and that is huge and speaking of that and being able to communicate with the community we're bringing something back from the death of covid prior to covid we had Safety Council meetings three times a year within the district where

we pulled in Township Administration TSA fire parents students and brought them all together so we can get their voice in our safety so we understand what they're looking at and what they can do and that's a I had the opportunity when I was driving down from Columbus today I was speaking with a parent on school safety and she was able to you know give me a very fresh perspective on a couple things that maybe we can take to the core team and improve so we don't have the dates set on this but our goal is to have a March December or September December and March meetings this coming year and more to that to come you know so at this point do you have any questions for myself or other members of the core team

that presented corporate wolf how many children do you interact with on a daily basis it all depends on the day if something's going on um it could be a few if it's a quiet day I mean 200 300 I try if there's nothing going on I try and get in various buildings Walk The Halls go in classrooms you know cafeterias I'm probably missing things but it's different on every given day any given day so yeah I will say especially with the younger kids and I the only they love seeing a wolf walk through the through the hallways he gets the high fives I wish I could get um I don't have a question I just have a comment um for officer wolf and your your colleagues at the at the sheriff's department um I just

want to say thank you because we may just have one SRO but there are many times where I call John and I'm like what's going on there's like all these you know Sheriff cars at XYZ building and what they're doing is what they don't have to do and that's coming and filling out a report or being on our campus and having a presence and I think that um well I just want you to know that I'm really appreciative of that as a parent and also as an educator that has to go through these trainings myself and honestly it's a little triggering to even sit here and watch this because it's just scary right um so I just want to make sure that I extend my gratitude and appreciation for for you and your colleagues that

don't have to do that but do keep a presence in our district so thank you [Applause] I just have a comment for you guys thank you so much for coming tonight and doing this presentation it doesn't come at a better time right now and the things that you're doing in the school district are very important and I appreciate you coming and telling everybody about this Safety and Security is the number one priority so thank you thank you guys I really appreciate it I I read I had a question all the way down the line um I know I know that you're new to Maddox and that might be why you were looking at the safety plans there I was just wondering how often do we go through those and look at those and reevaluate them

is that something we do on a regular basis at the school there Ariel every time yeah and um you might have seen I sent out an email yesterday because we had an inadvertent alarm drop and that happens at times but that was not planned and our students and staff responded incredibly there you could order pin drop because we teach quiet so you can listen for directions and our students were out of the building accounted for walkie-talkies working everybody rolling missing kids here they are I have them over here and nobody knew is there a fire or not a fire right until after that incident okay we're clear fire department did come Sheriff's Department came but yeah every time we're looking at those and reviewing those and especially you know with Alice and the evacuation drills

too I always come on the announcements and and try to say we're going to start our Drew it's just practice everyone is safe we're just practicing in case there's an unsafe situation we know what to do and we are prepared so again like Emily's said trying not to have it be a trigger moment but to Leslie's point it is hard to talk about you know this topic very hard and we want our kids to be prepared but we don't want to scare them either so we're constantly thinking about how we can best prepare them but not make them afraid either answer your question I kind of did I just was I was just curious because you I knew you were new there and you noticed stuff so I didn't know you know sometimes different eyes

catch things that right you know you see it all the time you may not catch so thank you thank you that was a great question because that is something too and the plans will change too tornado plants can change a whole lot especially in the elementaries based on class size all of a sudden you've got many more kids students in the hallway that you know last year it was a small class now it's a big class and now they've got to rotate kids and everything so that that's really huge and though all these guys do that on a regular basis and that the staff is a huge help in that too because they see it happening you know we've got 50 eyes watching it happen so yes we definitely want to stay fresh and you're

right we do have to bring it in to look fresh definitely anything else on this that was it for me thank you thank you all right thanks again thanks again guys I appreciate it okay all righty uh now for uh the beginning of the consent agenda with items eight two and eight three uh the business gender the first one is to uh the motion to accept the resolution to award the contract for the equipment a CT design and Equipment company for the steamers at the elementaries that we went out to bid last month on and item 8.3 is a motion to approve the resolution to award the certificate of 3M security film that we also went out to bid last month at this point respectfully request that the board approved the consent agenda items as

presented I couldn't think of a word for Senate thank you next up item 9.0 human resources foreign don't get too proud John I did you did get a clap and that's the first congratulations thank you um all right good evening and happy April um I just want to reiterate uh it's really incredible when you when you work in a school district really any organization you know from the outside looking in you can kind of think yeah I can I kind of know what goes on there right you know I went to school so I know everything about it um there's just so much that happens on a regular basis and it really is impressive to listen to John and joy and Emily talk and officer wolf about just on the safety side like what what

happens on a regular basis it's it's pretty incredible as a former principal having 1200 students for whom you've got that responsibility and a hundred employees in in any given day and so the training and shifting of hats and wearing different things and then being able to kick it with kids in the lunchroom as well and be able to do that seamlessly is pretty incredible so teachers do the same thing but I just felt like a shout out there because it's it's really incredible stuff pretty straightforward HR report just want to draw your attention to our retirements in item a and just want to wish Jane Knoll after 34 years 34 years in education a wonderful time in retirement and which are all the best we have a few retirements listed also in our classified staff

a couple paraprofessionals Martha Kohler 19 years and Suzanne Meyer 25 years at Turpin and Maddox respectively um you all know what what Perez do on a daily basis it's it's incredible work and and so we wish them all the best in their future Patty cappers as well out of CEO 18 years and she's been a payroll manager I wish her the best as well a few others listed just as revisions in terms of dates per whether it's sirs or stirs recommendation there moving forward I just draw your attention it's always great to see item H we have a couple custodian hires which is great we have a new we're excited to welcome a new bus driver as well which is very exciting um and um and then an administrative assistant replacing Tammy Mccalla who's retirement

we've approved in the past maybe a month or so ago um other than that pretty straightforward and that concludes the report unless there are questions it's recommended that the board proof HR report as presented thank you next up teaching and learning all right good evening we have been super busy in the last month since we were here last but we will be short and sweet we have two things for you tonight that's for a second reading of our science course of study 10.1 and 10.2 is our computer science course of study both of those are for second reading and approval for this evening 10.3 is the first read for our Innovation course of study this is really not new work but it's really alignment and it's around looking at how we support our students they

all go through media as Mr Frank has pointed out earlier and really trying to support students as they navigate digital literacy design thinking Computer Science and Tech skills and really where those skills begin at the elementary level and again that development of literacy and that's something that is really where stem comes to life and the skills come to fruition outside of the typical classroom setting so prior to requesting approval of the attached Elementary Innovation course of study it's being presented to you this evening for our first read it will be on display in the teaching learning Department until the May 17th board meeting our next board meeting so formal approval of that course will be requested at that time are there any questions about those three no okay next up we have teaching and learning

good evening I have 11.1 this is a motion to approve an international trip that has been requested by Anderson in Turpin High Schools they're traveling to Puerto Rico Isle of natural wonders this is May 28th to June 3rd of 2024 right at the beginning of our summer break next year we have 35 students maximum going hopefully they are 9th to 11th graders with four chaperones and there is a three thousand thirty four dollar approximate cost per student it is recommended the board approved the international trip requested by Anderson and Turpin High School [Music] and I have item 10.2 um I think it's 10.2 um I have the next one on the list 11.2 11.2 fairly straightforward request for a foreign exchange student to be approved on behalf of the Turpin Administration we have a young

lady named ANUK lardu assuming I am saying that correctly again coming from France to be a sophomore next year at Turpin High School she will be working through youth for understanding through this program and staying with local residents Jana and Jay Stotts and as part of the request we we request that her enrollment with Turpin comes with instructional and school fees waived so thank you any questions okay thank you next up technology I'm thinking walk-up music would be appropriate here good evening item 12.1 we have one item for technology we have the e-rate bids for purchase of equipment and services this evening we're asking for approval to purchase Network equipment through the federal e-rate program using the winning bids as listed are there any questions oh I just would like to make a note on

the agenda it doesn't say item 10.3 it doesn't say consent agenda just to make that note well so we're supposed to consent agenda through these that's okay I just wanted to make a note that's all 13.0 treasure is updating correspondence um well I think one of the things that I wanted to point out as we get started we all know the first page of the treasures agendas the donations and they were outstanding um this month I cannot believe how supportive our community is and we are just so appreciative but we received over uh 227 000 in donations so big big month for donations and thank you thank you thank you yes moving on to Item B that's the cash activity statement which presents all the revenues and expenditures and all board funds through March 31st

moving on to item c d and e these present only the general fund so only the top Fund in that board activity report is in the next three reports this of course is our general fund our five-year forecast fund and if we look at item C that presents the revenues March is always one of our higher cash flow months and that's due to the receipt of our final settlement of our spring tax collections items d and e present the general fund expenditures for the month and fiscal year to date end up March 31st and as you know expenditures in the general fund are very stable throughout the year so with 75 percent of our fiscal year complete at the end of March we've spent 69 percent of our Appropriations with an additional five percent in

convert so spending at this point is tracking exactly where we would expect to be at the end of March the March 31st bank reconciliations and Investments are for your viewing pleasure there and item app and appropriation adjustments are presented in item G if there are there any questions on the financial statements as presented I know that you have a chance to review these and I got a quite a few great questions and as always I respond I responded to the rest of the board so I did appreciate all those questions hearing none I respectfully request that the board approve items 13 1 through 13.1 G as part of the consent motions starting with item 8.1 through 13.1 G separate I'm sorry h oh did I look oh I'm sorry H forgot to talk about the

age um just goes through G did I not print one out you have an H yeah certification of funds it's for Nago music music festival of Music at Nagel uh let me call it up sorry there's a page missing for my report oh yes certification yes please include item H certification of funds um for a PO that came in late so sorry about that yeah um so huh sorry guys so that said um I respectfully request the consent agenda motion to begin with item 8.1 through 13 point 1H sorry about that sorry sorry it's 8.2 yeah not 8.1 presentation 8.1 very true boy I'm batting a thousand tonight sorry 8.2 I'll make a motion to approve the consent agenda items 8.2 through 13.1 second Mrs Jonas yes Mr Bibb yes Dr Rasmussen yes Mrs Stewart

no Mrs housefeld yes okay um you know and I do have an update um for you that I wanted to share this evening and as we've been out um giving informational talks on the levy we have always pointed to the cup report as a place someone could go to get information on the school district of course we know they had it has almost 60 data points and it Compares us to other school districts throughout the um state so typically the cup the new cup report comes out in December this year it came out two weeks ago so I would just like to take a few minutes to to share the new information and we are going to be updating our website with this so if we could go into the first report we have been

talking about the cost per pupil throughout our time and we were using of course the the latest available and that has been now been updated in 2019 we were 17th out of 22 school districts in Hamilton County with the updated 2002 data our new cost per pupil is twelve thousand eight hundred and fifty Seven dollars and we are ranked 18th lowest in the county out of the 22 school districts here in Hamilton County so if we could back out into the next sheet so what I have for you here is a comparison of 21 to 22 and you can see there that the Hamilton County average jumped by 10 and a half percent the state average jumped by 9.7 percent and Forest Hills um just we went up by three percent so I think we

continue to be a good value in terms of cost for for our community and then if we can go into the third page this is something that um we also update and we've put the new cup report numbers in and what what it shows there is it takes the we've got the new cost for pupil numbers way on the left there and as you can see Forest Hills is a great value with a lower cost per pupil if you move to the next one even though we have a low cost per pupil we managed to spend a a large amount of every dollar out of every dollar is spent directly into the classroom and that's compared to a Hamilton County average of 71.6 percent and a Statewide average of 68 cents so again not only

do we have a low cost per pupil but we direct the dollars to the heart of what it is we do directly in the classroom moving on at the lower end on cost when it turns into the performance index as you can see there we are high Forest Hills is sixth out of Hamilton County school districts and um with a performance index of a hundred compared to Hamilton County average of 81.2 so again we just put the sheet together we think it's a good way to look at things also I skipped over the top part the first one there we've talked about our lower residential school tax rate quite a bit so again too too low two key statistics where Forest Hills um is very efficient in terms of spending and then again but High

performing so I think that's um one thing that we like to show we like to show these statistics to demonstrate to our community that we are being responsible with their dollars directing it where it goes to in the directly in the classroom and our kids perform and I think we heard that tonight we had quite a few speakers uh telling what they found valuable about the education here in Forest Hills so that's just a quick update as we go into the final days of the levy just trying to continue to keep financial data out there for everyone to see any questions on any of the data okay so it came out right the 2022 the 2022 and the sources are listed on there the customer pupil is actually the new information the residential property tax

rates come directly from the Hamilton County Auditor and the source for the percentage spent in the classroom and of course the performance index is is our state report card so the new data is actually just we're just updating the cost cost for people the ADM the average daily membership right is that where that comes from the cup report yes because in the tax budget that we had passed because we didn't have this information you know they're on page 16 that ADM number is not included do you know what that is for the 2022 year could you get back to me on that because that's left blank on the page 16. oh okay sure yes I will I will get that thank you to you any other questions there's 60 data points on there I just

love the cup report thank you very much thank you moving on to 14.0 word correspondence I will start over here with uh with Bob and I'll go down the line um Bob would you like to say floor nope okay Leslie sure why not No I um yeah I just want to again like everyone thank the levy committee for all that they've been doing to get out there and just event after event um and the same for Alana Kim Josh Larry who are out there doing that Rob opening his home um and I've gotten a chance to join them at a couple of these things and they are just they're phenomenal as we know and they express their passion and I got a sneak peek of Jane one of the little speakers last week at an

event and I just I love that the kids are so invested um Megan wolf and I spent some time at the Anderson Senior Center talking with residents there and it was extremely informative and some of the residents thought we were high school students so I always want to go back to that for that which was incredibly flattering but I again you know these folks are working an entire day and then going out in the evening and still doing that so I just wanted to give a big hearty thank you and I know a lot of the teachers love but to them too that came out here and spoke so passionately about what they do and you know Mr frankus is not here but I'll shout him out because he's a Maddox teacher where I am

he is absolutely beloved and I I think we could feel his passion as he spoke about you know the kids in the district and my kid is pumped to go to Media all the time and it's so much more than media that's almost like a not a good name to really articulate what they learn in there and what they do and it's just it's special so I just wanted to say thank you all for your time and your efforts getting out there and I did early vote already great thank you I did a ditto the thank yous to all the people that are working hard for this um I know everybody I urge everybody to get out and vote and um know exactly go through the material that has been provided to you and know

what you're both voting for and so get out and vote please we've we have a great School District we have a great community we have for many many years I know that everybody will step up and do what they should do and what they want to do so thank you sir you good last add a little something about Mike dewine said that the verdict is in and evidence is clear in regards to the science of reading a great deal of research has been done about how we learn to read and understand the Great Value and importance of phonics and then not all literacy curriculums are created equal and I'm just excited that we are ahead of the game and we have already decided that phonics is the best way and we are already implementing ways

of bringing that back into the classroom and and using that as our main focus so I just wanted a little pat on the back that we are already one step ahead and I'm excited for for that in our teaching and learning committee so I I have something to add to that Katie um because this has a floors Hills connection you may not know this yet I don't know if it's been on the news yet but Mike dewine was in Cincinnati today at Mount St Joe and he watched a he watched Wendy strickler Peterman who her husband is our band director Toby biederman um teach because she teaches about the science of reading and all of that and um and she was here at Forest I don't even know how long she was here 10 15

years working on that she's anyway just a a bit of a connection and that should be on the news I would imagine tonight but yeah so kind of cool that we get to be part of that thank you all for your comments tonight let's move on um so 15.0 we will not have executive session this evening correct we're celebrating a German the next scheduled board meeting is May 17th at 6 30. do I have a motion to adjourn second Mrs Stewart yes Mrs hosfeld
