001Education is called to order at 5:46 p.m. in the Tarbook Center conference room. Roll call, please. Mrs. Si here. Mrs. Foley, >> here. >> Mrs. Grega, >> here. Mr. Le >> here. >> Mr. >> here. Please stand for the pledgece to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Are there any committee reports? >> Okay, Mr. Porcel, administrative update. >> All right, thank you. Uh, let's start off with the fall play. Congratulations to the cast and crew of this year's high school fall production. Uh, they put on how to host a murder mystery dinner party. It was a great chance to see a little change of pace on the show in a different setting, the high school
002cafeteria. Um, our students did a wonderful job. Special thanks to Mrs. Hunter and the cast and crew. Um, and it was a dinner was served for Mama Roberto's. So, it was uh quite unique, interesting, and highly entertaining. So, thank you and congratulations to those students and staff. Uh, next up, Hispanic Heritage Fiesta. Last month was Hispanic Heritage Month, and we held our annual fiesta. Students showcased their projects, which highlighted Hispanic culture and identity, and then enjoyed authentic food. Uh, thank you to everyone who makes this event uh a success every year. Next up, service learning in Cincinnati. Seven of our service learning students spent two days in Cincinnati assembling furniture at New Life Furniture Bank and then also served dinner at a homeless shelter and met with other peers at Magnified Giving Youth Leadership Conference
003at the University of Cincinnati. Our service learning programs continue to make a positive change and impact not only in our community but in other surrounding communities as well. Uh so thanks to those teachers and the students that made that track down to Cincinnati. Um, we also held our annual Buccaneer Show Choir Festival. We hosted Menor Grand Valley and Madison for the annual show. Once again, a lot of talent on stage and special thanks to Mrs. Singer. Uh, that's a long Saturday bringing everything together and providing that opportunity for our students and local students as well. Uh, next up, the pumpkin chunkin. Congratulations to Mr. Daviser and his pumpkin tremade teams who once again competed in Willy's annual pumpkin chunkin contest. Uh the team by the name of Skywalker Slingers took first place with a throw
004of 314 ft, setting a new Perry Middle School record. Coming in second place, the Throwby Juan Kenobi earned second place with a throw of 278 ft. Mrs. Greg, congratulations to all of our teams and participants. Uh next, the Danbury Halloween. You may have seen that the Trump or Tree event was a major success once again this year. Special thanks to those staff members that make that possible. Um and also some of our students went and visited um folks at the Danbury Assisted Living where they read some of their favorite books to the residents while in their full Halloween costumes. It's a fun time for both the residents and our students who continue to make uh connections with uh the older generations. Always a special day. Um tomorrow um Perry High School will host the Eastern
005Lake County Chamber of Commerce event. It's a state of the schools, state of communities. There's a variety of um different speakers. Superintendents have been invited to give an eightminute presentation on workforce development. Um as I prepared for this and had a great time preparing for it, um it is a great reminder of the special things we have going on here at Perry. Um a lot driven by grant board support of innovation and personalizing education and the vision of doing what's best for students. Uh so I will be presenting tomorrow. It's an event between 11 and 1:30. Um, but once again, um, a great reminder, um, of the of the wonderful things that we do for kids here and appreciative to be able to work here and be part of that. Uh, next up, Jen and
006I had attended the county commissioners meeting a couple Mondays ago. Now, um, they had to wrestle with the, um, opportunity to do a homestead and owner occupancy roll back. we attended and Jen and I and Luke Galant as well and different board members, we continue to advocate for Perry schools. Um, property taxes continue to come up throughout the region and the state of what's the best way to handle that. Um, so we'll make sure we're on the um, having the right conversations with the right people to advocate for our school and our students. Um, and then I'll jump to athletics here. Um some highlights, our volleyball team, I think just for the second time ever, qualified for the regional uh semi-finals, which is the round of 16. Uh they battled and fought hard and uh
007it's great to see them have a high level of success this year. So congratulations to the coach and our girls for their great season. And this Friday, we will host uh this round of suite of 16 regional semi-final versus West Branch. come on out and support our our football players. Uh, grades 7 through 12, there will be a tailgate party in the fieldhouse before the game. If kids attend that, they'll get a free ticket to the game courtesy of the Athletic Boosters. So, make sure you come out and support our team this Friday. And then finally, and something that we'll have an opportunity to discuss in new business, everybody's favorite topic, uh, school calendars. Uh, so here we are. Uh, we do not have a school calendar yet for the 2627 school year. It is
008essential that we probably have something in place by next month as uh Jim Smith does a lot of his planning and and uses every week that he can to do the different repairs and we heard from him last month um and the upgrades to our facility. Um I do have a copy sitting um in your area there. I have a draft A and B for 2627 and 2728. Um the reason I did two years, uh we have two years worth of contracts with both unions, which um the one contract specifies is the the number of student days and staff days. So it's built off of those um specifics. Um areas of greatest concern when I sit down to try to draft this, what do people always want to know about? Number one, when does school
009start? Um number two, when does school end? How long is winter break? And when is spring break? All right, those are the four things and every it's like levers, right? As you start school later, you might lose time over winter break or maybe spring break's reduced or the end of school goes out in July. So try to look at all those different ranges. What happens is you move those levers and there's only so many ways to squeeze 179 days and eight I think it's eight staff days now into u a calendar. Um and I understand it's been a highly talked about topic. Um my goal in creating calendar is always to try to do what's best for students in the flow of a school year looking at start date, end date, uh appropriate breaks to
010to set students up for su success in those areas. Um so you'll see that we can talk about that more when we get to the new business part. Um but that concludes my administrative update. >> Thank you, Mr. Marcelo. Um do we have any public participation? No one's jumping up, so I'm gonna guess no. >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> That's okay. >> Consent agenda. Is there a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> So move. >> Second. >> Is there any discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Stoley. >> Yes. >> Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mr. Light. >> Yes. >> Mr. Chester. >> Yes. Mrs. >> Yes. Back to Mr. >> All right. Thank you. A. Approval of policy first reading. The board is asked to consider the following board policies as a first reading

014the 16th in 2026. Is recommended by the local superintendent and building principal. This out of state travel is at no cost to the district other than the substituted schedule to to cover uh for Mrs. Milky for three days. I would note here that Mrs. Milky teaches our you design a class which is very uh individual and personalized based and um this is sort of a unique opportunity for an educator to attend. She has attended in the past. We're now closer to every three or four year uh rotation there. And below gives you some ideas of some of the creativity that she'll learn and be part of as she attends this event. And this concludes my superintendent report. >> Thank you, Mr. Pado. Is there a motion to approve? >> So move. Second. >> Any discussion?
015I had a question on policy 5136, um, which is the student cell phone personal communication devices policy. Um, are we including I know we have like cell phones and other personal devices. Are we including headphones in that as a general practice? >> I believe at our building level through student handbooks and code of conducts that we restricted >> Okay. >> the headsets. Yeah. Okay. >> Like on the pods while they're in class and stuff. >> Yeah, because the pods obviously connect can connect to a phone book bag and >> um I know Mr. Nikki's work closely with our teachers at the high school level to restrict that this year and make sure that students are attentive to what's going on. >> Okay. Thank you. Is there anything else? >> Okay. Roll call, please. Mrs. Greg,
016>> yes. >> Mr. Leic, >> yes. >> Mrs. Yes. Mrs. Yes, >> Mrs. Foley. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Papo. Thank you. A, approval of financial reports. The board has asked to approve the financial reports from October 2025 as recommended by the chief financial officer. B, acceptance and appropriation of scholarship funds. 017the 202526th grade camp trip as recommended by the chief financial officer, local superintendent, and board or building principal. E. Approval of expenditure Washington DC trip. The board is asked to approve an expenditure to 20th Century Tourists for $18,740 as a deposit for the 2026 27 eighth grade Washington DC field trip as recommended by the chief financial officer, local superintendent, and building principal. Approval of expenditures Johnson fire protection LP. The board has asked to approve an expenditure in the amount of $345,00065765 to Johnson Controlled Fire Protection
018LP for the West Campus Fire Alarm System under Schwarzville Contact number 030421-JHN as recommended by the chief financial officer and the director of maintenance and operations. H approval expenditure Vasco. The board has asked to approve an expenditure in the amount of $147,519 tobacco for the high school and middle school tennis courts and pack basketball courts resurfacing under NCPa Omnia contract number 08-4 as recommended by the chief financial officer and the director of maintenance and operations. I approval of expenditure Shaw Integrated Solutions. The board has asked to approve the expenditure in the amount of $24,45844 to Shaw Integrated Solutions for the Perry Elementary School's carpet replacement under state of Ohio contract number 016543 as recommended by the chief financial officer and the director of maintenance and operations. And this concludes my CFO report. And I'd just
019like to say that those last three with those big expenses, those are all items that we talked about last month with Jim Smith and two of them uh G and I are both have money set aside in those 070 accounts that we created. So >> the capital >> Yeah. So it's not coming out of the um general fund money. >> Is there a motion to approve? >> I was just going to say I prefer to remove G only because >> vote on them separate. Yeah, code on G separately. >> Okay. >> It's not not a direct affiliation. My husband works with that companywide. So, >> so then I will amend my is there a motion an amended motion for items A through I excluding G or A through J excluding G. >> That's the only
020one where Johnson's in there, right? >> Any discussion on those items? the change in F that's coming out of grant fund. >> Yes. >> Um and then I did have a question. Um under C the Ohio Holocaust is that class of 30 2031 for seventh grade. Um I don't have the math real fast. It could be I double check. Yeah, but it's a seventh grade. >> Perfect. So >> any other question discussion question? >> Okay. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Light, >> yes. >> Mrs. Drester, yes. Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Yes. >> Yes. >> Is there a motion to approve item G? >> A second. >> Any discussion? Roll call, please. Mr. Leic. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Strezer. >> Yes. Mr. Foley. >> And yes. >> Um unfinished business. >> I'm sorry. >> Mr.
021Porcel. >> Thank you. Um just one item today. A personnel approval of appointment volunteer. The board is asked to approve the employment of the individual individual listed as a volunteer for the support noted pending successful completion of background check and certification recommended by the local superintendent and athletic director. >> Thank you. Is there a motion to approve? >> So move. >> Any discussion? Roll call, please. >> Mr. Soly, >> yes. >> Mrs. Foley, yes. >> Mrs. Greger, >> yes. >> Mr. Le, >> yes. >> Mrs. Yes. And Mrs. Mr. K on your agenda. >> A approval of expenditure CBW-G. The board asked to approve an expendure in the amount of $101,875 to CDW government for the purchase of 125 Acer Chromebooks and Google Chrome education upgrades as recommended by the chief financial director of information
022technology for new staff devices. Okay. Um, thank you. Is there a motion? >> Second. Any discussion? >> Those are for staff or students? >> Staff. Yeah. On the rotation, it's been four years, right? >> Yeah, it's four years. And Darcy priced it out multiple places. Um for the device that we're getting, it's an upgrade in two different areas over what we currently have. Um some of the prices that she received were $200 more per device for that same level of computer or even $100 more per device or less of a of a machine. Um, and that's why it's on an addendum agenda. Um, with supply, if we let them know sooner, we have a better chance of actually receiving the laptops before the start of the year. >> What do we do with the ones
023that they're getting rid of? >> I'm sorry. >> What do we do with the ones they're getting rid of? >> We'll use them for replacement devices for students and and staff. Yeah. Okay. >> Okay. Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Foley. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Greger. >> Yes. >> Mr. Le? >> Yes. >> Mr. Ker? Yes, Mrs. >> Yes. >> unfinished business. Um, Mrs. Cable, would you mind just giving us a quick overview of what the roll back is that was approved by the commissioners and how that impacts us? >> Um, sure. Uh, so with your property taxes, everyone who lives in their home and we're occupied, they get a 2.5% roll back on their taxes credit. Um, the state reimbures us. What the commissioners have done is they're taking advantage of a piggyback which allows
024them to give us another two and a half percent. Um but the state's not going to reimburse us for that. So that's going to come out of the the school's money. Um and they also um doubled the homestead which is an credit that you get for um if you're over 65 and you meet a certain income threshold and that's a reduction in your taxable value of $25,000. Um and so here in Ohio and Perry because we only have 20 mills, it'll be about $175 $200 maybe that they'll see um in savings. Uh but overall um it's going to end up costing our district about $200,000 is what they said. Um so it's a little bit of relief, not a lot of relief for the amount of um um of services that will be taken from
025the county. Is >> that including the um the levy money from the financing district? And well, yeah, I'm sorry. I don't have the the figures on that, but yeah, there'll be a we'll see a small reduction in that as well because it'll it'll it'll affect all taxing entities in the in the county. So, your your developmental disability boards, your um townships, villages, schools, >> all your police, >> police, libraries, all the >> So, all things considered, compared to like what other districts and other public entities are seeing, um we're pretty okay. Yes, we're we're very fortunate. Um, a lot of the other schools are going to see much larger reductions than we do. Um, the libraries are going to hit get hit pretty pretty significantly. Um, so >> how many counties in Ohio did that?
026Do you know? >> I think it was only nine is the last I saw, but nine. They took advantage of it, but there was a very short window in which to do it. So, it became law in at the end of September and they had to make a decision by October 31st. They had to act very quickly. So I think a lot of >> not a lot of time to communicate >> right to get it together. >> And how long is that in effect for? >> It's only for this year. They'll have to make a decision on whether they want to do it again. Um so for for 2026 that that tax year. If they want to do it again in 2027, they have to make a decision on that by June 30th of 2026.
027>> Okay. >> Thank you. We got to keep an eye on all the legislation. And that's that. So that by itself isn't so bad, but could depending on how everything else plays out with the all that legislation, it could be pretty devastating. Luckily, we we should come out pretty good, but a lot of other school districts in Lake County could be hurt pretty badly by a lot of these um proposed bills and then this piggyback. >> Okay, thank you. And then other unfinished business, we were going to Is it calendar new business or unfinished? Cool. >> It's on like All right, we'll move on to new business. Does anyone want to talk about the calendar? >> So, you do have an A and B for for each year. Um A is pretty similar to what
028we did this year. It starts on August 17th, which is the corresponding Monday. Um it's a twoeek winter break. Um spring breaks at the end of March. We and this year we save a day because it butts up to Easter. Um when spring break is not connected to Easter, we we have traditionally taken the Good Friday and Easter Monday. Um as a 4-day weekend in April. Um so this A of 2627, the last day of school will be May 28th. The A of 2728 is very similar with the start of with a 5-day week, two week winter break. um we do lose a day in 2728 around that Easter that I was speaking about which then requires us to come back one day after Memorial Day which is a little bit awkward but um that's
029what a B on both are very similar. Um, we start school on a 3-day week on the Wednesday the 18th and 27th. And we also then in December go to school for two days on the 20th and 21st, which is a Monday and Tuesday. And then um, school would be out of session 23, 22, 23, 24. And so winter break's not quite two weeks there. Um, and then everything else is pretty much the same. And school would also end, I believe, a day after Memorial Day as well. >> Suzanne, change the colors. >> The color coding. Was that you? >> I >> What was the feedback this year? And I know that in the past we've always discussed >> we've always we've discussed in the past um that you know it was preferable to do
030a partial week start for the beginning of school year. Was there feedback this year on how that went from most people starting because we started a full week this year. How did that go in school? Like was it did the kids adapt well? Was it any different? Did we see any differences at all from starting midweek? Anyone can >> Yeah. principles, did Adriana, anything on that? Any feedback? >> We brought all our middle schoolers back, just say one and um I did not hear any negative feedback from that. Um to me felt easier because it wasn't as confusing to bring in half a group one day, half a group the other day. We just all came back >> a full week. >> Five days versus three days or four days. We we didn't really have
031a full week because we had the staggered start and the kindergarteners are phasing in and the preschoolers are phasing in and so we didn't really have a full week. So there were no complaints. We'd love to hear what the what everyone is about that as a parent. Um I don't think for middle school and and high school I think starting on a Monday is fine. I had a little kid kindergarten first, second maybe that staggered. >> Um yeah. Um for parents and kids. Um I've heard nothing. I didn't positive or negative from the community, stuff like that, but as a parent, you know, now of a middle schooler, her going on a Monday um really has no impact to her versus staggering. So generally from the teachers and from what you've seen in the schools
032did you see like pretty similar to any other doesn't really have an impact. Okay. Um >> and I you also have this paper here. So there I was on a email thread with other superintendents of when um on this list people that participated Rarden, Fairport, Harbor, Panel City, Kentston, Kirtland, Madison, Perry and Riverside. Um you can see the start dates of where everybody's at. Um currently is actually starting August 13th it appears. Um everybody's last days in a similar piece and that the one thing we continue to struggle with is finding that common weekly for spring break. Um but four out of the nine on here look to be aligned with the weekly would be the only school that's way out there is is Bergkshire because they only go to school like 166 days >>
033and they would run the fair too. I believe that >> is this only so I'm just curious. So these are just all Lake County districts and we don't have Wickliff, >> right? This was this portion of Lake County and some of um another superintendent started it and it I don't know how we decided who was on the email today but >> um I don't like the the one day after Memorial Day. I don't think that makes sense to make kids go back for one day. I don't even see that a lot of people would send their kids back for that one day. So that would just be my preference to avoid that if possible. >> That's on the letter second calendar though, right? That's on Well, I think it's I think it's in the 27
03428 year regardless. >> Yeah, there's a way to not do that. I think that it's better to not do that. It doesn't really >> The one day to shave off is the Monday after Easter, >> but we have to do that contractually, don't we? >> I don't think so. >> Oh, I thought we did. So wait, so the 28 28 school year either Good Friday, Easter Monday, that's April. >> Yeah, you could go B calendar. >> Yeah. Um and go on the se start school on August 17th and then not go to school on May 30th. >> That's for 2728B. >> Yeah. >> Wait. Start on the >> I see it on the 30th. >> Okay. The 30th is the last day. They're just not all marked. >> The grave term ends. So the 30th
035of May would be a school day. >> Okay. >> On on current draft B of 2728. Would it make sense to move that to a teacher work day or like a student a staff development day instead of redoing a calendar like February? Is it February 18th or is that >> so February 18th and March times our PD days? >> Well, Todd said though if we if we just started the 17th on the B calendar. Is that what you said? >> Yeah. >> If we started one day earlier >> 2027 >> Yeah. 27 >> 27 28 >> We started one day earlier on the 17th then we could be done on the 26th >> or if we go Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of winter break. That's different semester, right? >> Yeah, that would be the other tradeoff.
036>> That's a short winter break though. I mean, I'm all for short winter break, but that's a really short winter break. So, okay. Anyone else have any thoughts or discussion? >> So, we could make some adjustments and you know if you always give me a phone call and uh then I come forward with a recommendation for December at next month's meeting. And you're going to your plan is to approve two years in a row at the next >> I think that's nice for planning. >> Yeah, I it just it I think it's the right way to do it. >> Yeah, >> people can plan family life and we can plan repairs and upgrades to our facility >> and uh >> okay, >> there's always the the hardest part in the calendar. There's always tradeoffs. So,
037>> okay. >> All right. So, any other new business? Correspondence and announcements. There's no classes November 26th to 28th, 2025 for Thanksgiving break. The next regular board of education meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 16th at 5:45 p.m. in the Charlotte Center conference room. Is there any other public participation? Okay. Then me. I move that the board adjourn to executive session for the purpose of considering the appointment employment dismissal of a public employee a public official of the district and so the purpose for the purpose of considering the purchase of property the sale or the sale of property at competitive bidding since disclosure at this time would give an unfair competitive advantage or bargaining advantage to the person whose general private interest are refers to the general public interest. Is there a second? Second roll,
038please. >> Mrs. Yes. >> Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Foley. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Mr. Mrs. Greger. >> Yes. >> Mr. Le. >> Yes. >> And just before we head out, thank you guys for coming. It's nice to have students here. And if you guys have any questions, feel free to reach out. We're happy to like discuss anything now that you've seen it. If there's you can ask now, but I figure you probably don't want to. If you want to email or call us or sit down with us, we're happy to go over procedurally how things work or answer any questions you have. >> But bring your friend. >> Thank you.
