001today at PS DuPont Middle School we had a very unique musical experience with the Eastern Standard Trio they came to visit our kids to perform for them and also collaborate on a world premiere for a piece titled A Grand Day Out written by Robert Linton what we're doing here is the trio here is going to be performing a piece and there's four different sections where we're going to invite you all to join us and make sounds with us the idea was we sculpted a piece that depicts a group of friends going out into nature and encountering very collection of sounds such as Birds winds water and then inviting the students to create those sounds on the spot just off the top of their head [Music] foreign the great thing about music is the the goal
002is so in the moment the goal was you know the 10 minutes we were interacting with the students and creating music that was just for a moment and then it was gone but the memories remain it is a cool thing to be a part of their middle school experience because um I mean it is that those transition years and if you can keep the music alive in them now up through high school like it typically stays with them for a lifetime so it's trying to create experiences that they will remember way down the road and it's cool to have a part of that for the rest of their lives they would remember their Adventure in Brandywine State Park and smile when thinking about just how Grand a day it had been it's set up in
003a way that we have ideas and thoughts about how it should go but there's lots of room for adjustments and improvisation and to allow the students to surprise us with things we would have never thought about um and there was there was plenty of that and it was magic it was great [Applause]
