Oh my god, she could wear this on the other side. That is totally I mean, malicious compliance. Mhm. Oh my god. I don't know if they're going to need this. I don't know if they're going to need this. Make sure your pumps are down. Okay, I really like the YSL >> [music] >> Saint Laurent pumps and the top of the line. Those are my top three. That is so good. Now, one good one. >> I just had my tattoo. I just had my tattoo. >> [applause] [cheering] [cheering and music] [music] [cheering] [music] [cheering] [music] [applause and cheering] [music] >> Graduates and spectators, please be seated. Hello. My name is Bella Cons, and it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2026 commencement celebration for Village High School. Thank you to all the family and

friends who have joined us today, and congratulations to my fellow graduates. Above all, I would not be who I am today without God and my family's steadfast love. My mom and dad especially have guided me with their wisdom and encouragement and more support than I could ever name. All of our families have shaped us into the people we are today, watching us grow, and giving us advice we might not always want to hear in the moment. Here at the Village, we are blessed with an entire second layer of support through our teachers and friends who have made lifelong impacts on our lives. We all came to the Village for some reason, whether it be athletics, demanding activities, or just to be out of a traditional school setting. I transferred after my freshman year at Rampart,

and it was the best decision I ever made. We often hear people refer to the Village as fake school, but we know the truth. It's the farthest thing from that. Our school has given us innumerable lessons that other students simply do not get. One of the main reasons that sets the Village apart is the mentor system we have. They are not only our teachers, but have walked alongside us outside of the classroom, guiding us with life. They are the ones who have believed in us every step of the way, especially when we were at 20% in Accelerate with a week left in school. I know a lot of us have been there. Our mentors care about us as people, not just as students. I'm lucky enough to have CR as my mentor. She has been

my biggest cheerleader and has always believed in me. She has praised me in my achievements and encouraged me in my shortcomings. CR made it a priority to know about the details in my life and genuinely cared. At the Village, we get to forge our own path. We are given the flexibility to decide how we use our time. Nobody had the same schedule or layout, and that's what makes us better built for future endeavors. No one person is the same, and we have to learn learn to work with others around us who do things differently and want different outcomes. Whatever the case, Village taught us perseverance, to channel an internal drive, not just external pressure. Showing up even when nobody was watching, continuing when it was hard, and getting back up when we felt like there

was no hope to finish. In the real world, we won't get the luxury of having someone to lean on every time something goes wrong. Thankfully, we have been equipped with the tools to tackle any challenge that comes our way. We have learned that there are consequences to our actions. Because we had the freedom, we had to be responsible. Because we had the responsibility, we needed persistence. These experiences have changed how we grew and shown us who we can become. The Village is a place of endless opportunities and is welcoming to all kinds of people. Although it was unfamiliar, we allowed ourselves to be open to trying something new. For me, this opened the door to the best group of friends I could ever ask for. Going into a new school not knowing anybody is scary,

but I have learned that God gives us people and circumstances if we're willing to listen to the call. If we take the chance, it will make our lives so much more rich and meaningful. I encourage all of you, wherever you find yourselves, to find the community that fills your life with support and purpose. If we've learned one thing, it's that an uncertain future does not have to be a scary one. It's important to stay true to yourself and remember the people who are there to help us and want us to succeed. Now is the time to embrace inevitable change and hardships. Without challenges, there is no room for growth. Consult not your fears, but your hopes and dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried

and failed in, but what is still possible for you to do. Pope John the 23rd. What has the village given you, and how will you use that to change the world? Thank you and congratulations again. >> [applause] [applause] >> Now, please rise for the presentation of colors by Academy School District 20 color guard under the command of Cadet Technical Sergeant Chloe Lathman and the signing of the national anthem by Village High School student Siri Audman and signing by our senior ASL class. Oh, say can [singing] you see by the dawn's early [singing] light, what so proudly we [singing] held at the twilight's last gleaming, whose broad stripes and [singing] bright stars through the perilous [singing] fight, or the ramparts we [singing] watched were so gallantly streaming, and the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in

air, gave proof through the night [singing] that our flag was still there. Oh, say, [singing] does that star-spangled banner >> [singing] >> yet wave for the land >> [singing] >> of the free and the home >> [singing] >> of the brave? >> [applause] >> Please be seated. Thank you, Siri and ASL students. Now, I would like to introduce Dr. Caroline Johnson, principal of Village High School. Thank you, Bella, for your thoughtful and eloquent words of welcome. As we continue this very special celebration, I would like to remind our audience that today is about creating a core memory for our graduates. This is a moment they and their families will carry with them for years to come. I kindly ask that you take a moment now to silence your cell phones so you can be fully

present and share in this meaningful experience with our students. Class of 2026, you have made it. Graduation represents the culmination of 13 years of learning, growing, and striving towards a goal that once felt far away. Parents and families, I imagine the school years passed quickly. Though I am sure there were days that felt long along the way. Take a moment to think back to the first day of kindergarten. Was your child nervous? Excited? Were you? How about middle school? When mastering a locker combination and navigating multiple classrooms felt like a major accomplishment. Remember the first day of high school? The first school dance? The moment your child scored the winning point at a game? Or the day they truly found their place, found their home here at Village High School? You were there through the

triumphs and the challenges, supporting your graduate as they learned how to navigate an increasingly complex world. Your guidance, patience, and encouragement helped shape the young adults we celebrate here today. Graduates, none of you reached this milestone on your own. Along the way, there were parents, guardians, family members, and caring adults who believed in you, sometimes even more than you believed in yourselves. At this time, we would like to recognize those individuals. If you are a parent, guardian, or someone who served in that role for one of our graduates, please stand so we can thank you and honor you for your unwavering support, encouragement, and love. >> [applause] >> Thank you. Graduates, another group of influential adults in your lives has been the teachers and staff at Village High School. The core of our learning model

at Village High School is mentoring. Each year, students at the Village choose the teacher they want as their mentor. The role of a mentor teacher is to provide personalized support for each student. At the Village, we believe that strong, trusting relationships are the essential foundation for student success. Graduates, your teachers, especially your mentors, have shared their time, their wisdom, and guidance, and navigated you up with the ups and downs of your educational journey. Teachers were there to listen to you, to push you when you needed some tough love, and to celebrate with you when you achieved your goals. Teachers and staff at Village High School, please stand so we can recognize you. >> [applause] >> I also want to take a few minutes to recognize members of our Board of Education and members of Academy

District 20 Central Administration. These are the people working behind the scenes to ensure our school has the resources and support required for teachers and staff to focus on what matters most, our students. Audience, please hold your applause until all names have been announced. Amy Shandy, Board President. Susan Payne, Vice President. Dr. Eddie Waldrip, Director and Village High School Liaison. Holly Tripp, Treasurer. Derek Wilburn, Director. And from Central Administration, Superintendent Ginger Haver. Deputy Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer Becky Allen was unfortunately not able to be here today, but definitely want to recognize her. Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services Dr. Susan Field, and Shane Knight, Executive Director for Learning Services. Let's give our Board of Education and members of Central Administration a round of applause. >> [applause] >> It is now my pleasure to introduce our superintendent

Ginger Haberl. Superintendent Haberl, Colorado native, brings more than 30 years of educational experience and expertise to Academy District 20. She comes from a long family lineage of educators who instilled in her a desire to inspire others to be lifelong learners. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and starting her career pathway as a registered nurse, she soon realized that her true passion was being an educator. Superintendent Haberl has served in many roles from the classroom to administration, including earning national board certification as a science teacher, and serving as a middle and high school principal, an assistant superintendent of student achievement, and a superintendent for 5 years in the state of Washington. She is grateful to serve as the superintendent of D20, where the team one spirit ensures that all students thrive. Please help me

welcome to the podium Superintendent Haberl. >> [applause] >> Well, good afternoon, Village High School Mountaineer graduates, family, friends, and distinguished guests, and most importantly, our amazing faculty uh at Village High School. Today, we gather in a place that stands as a symbol of commitment, discipline, and service here at Clune Arena on the grounds of the United States Air Force Academy. This is a place where young men and women choose a path defined not only by achievement, but by purpose, by a commitment to something greater than themselves. And today, Class of 2026, as we celebrate your milestone, you also are so important to identifying that purpose and making a difference in this world. Today marks the culmination of all your hard work, your dedication, and your resilience. You faced late nights, challenging exams, moments of doubt,

but you persevered. You balanced friendship and homework and just enough sleep to function the next day. This is your moment to reflect on all you've accomplished. Our vision in D20 is that all students have the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to be successful beyond graduation, and none of this would have been possible without the help of your family, your friends, your teachers, your coaches, and other mentors. They've been with you every step of the way, and today we need to honor them for their great support in your lives. Let's give it up for our family, our friends, teachers, and mentors one more time. >> [applause] >> Personally, I'm reminded of my own parents, Carl and Jane Johnston, both public school teachers for over 30 years. One of the most significant values that they instilled in

me was to be a lifelong learner. And growing up in a household of teachers meant there was always lots of encouragement, high expectations, and probably a reminder too about doing my homework. And even though they are no longer with me, their influence continues to guide me, and I encourage you to carry forward the lessons of those who have shaped your lives. So, graduates, listen to the wisdom that is shared with you by others. The following poem has inspired many over the years to reflect on the decisions that they will make in life. The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. Two roads diverged in a wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other as just as fair and perhaps having the better claim because it was grassy and wanted wear. Though as for that, the passing there had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day. Though knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. And I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. Graduates, this poem reminds us reminds all of us that choices that we make in life define our lives. And often the most meaningful choices are not the easiest ones. The road

less traveled is the decision to be confident in who you are rather than comparing yourself to others. It's choosing kindness and assuming positive intent even when it would be easier to judge. It's choosing gratitude and contentment in a world that often promotes entitlement. It's committing to being a lifelong learner, remaining curious, thinking critically, and continuing to grow beyond high school. And most importantly, it's choosing to connect your purpose to something greater than yourselves, serving others, strengthening your community, and becoming a contributing citizen. Class of 2026, your future is full of possibilities, and I am confident that you will shape our world in remarkable ways. And as a D20 graduate, we welcome you back to share about your future adventures. And as you leave this place today, may you go forward with confidence in your choices

and pride in your journey. Let's give it up for the class of 2026. >> [applause and cheering] >> Let's go, Mario. Thank you, Superintendent Hubbard. At this time, we will hear from another one of our students, Koa Lu. I am excited for you to hear Koa's message as he shares how Village High School supported his journey as a student while providing him the flexibility to pursue his passion of being a competitive athlete. >> [applause] >> Good afternoon, Superintendent, members of the Board of Education, teachers, parents, family, friends, staff, and most importantly, Class of 2026. My name is Koa Lu. I was not the class president or the valedictorian. I'm simply a student athlete. But one thing is for certain, we're all here because we achieved the shared goal, graduating high school. We We challenges along

the way, such as being anxious about an upcoming test or stressing about our grades. But what matters is that we persevere. It feels like yesterday I walked into my kindergarten classroom. From counting to 100 to standing here today. There are so many memories to fill that space between. Personally, I've been competing in trampoline and tumbling for 14 years. That journey brought me four national championship titles, but more importantly, it taught me life lessons I will carry forever. There were days I did not want to show up to practice and days I thought about giving up. Some competitions were tough and they taught me that sometimes you learn more about yourself in defeat than you do in victory. That journey also gave me a dream bigger than myself, a dream to represent the United States at

the Olympic Games. That dream has pushed me to work harder, rise after setbacks, and believe in myself even when the odds were stacked against me. Whether I reach the Olympics or not, the pursuit of that dream has already shaped who I'm becoming. With all that being said, one moment, breakthrough, or chance to prove yourself can change who you are for the better. So, whatever you do, don't stop now. Because the bright future you envision is closer than you think. As I look back on these past few months, I've experienced a major mix of emotions. Part of me is scared to graduate because I don't know what the future holds for me. But the other part of me is wondering, what if this next chapter is the best thing to happen to me? And in the

next step, your attitude can change a lot. So, I believe that with a positive outlook, you're already building a great foundation for what lies ahead. The moment I reflect on this chapter of high school, the more I reflect or the more I realize what the village has done for me. Even though I was not at the village for all four years of high school, it was still an incredible experience. Whether we were gathered around the common area, going out for lunch, or competing in senior assassin, we were making memories every single day. Life moves fast and we don't realize it until we look back. As my favorite artist J. Cole once said, there's no such thing as a life that's better than yours, which to me it to cherish every moment we have and to

slow down and appreciate what we have. Because everything we've worked for and dreamed of could be gone in an instant. There's no second chances. That's how quickly life moves. Take this moment right now. We're still here. We still have opportunities ahead of us. We have strength. We have a heartbeat, and we have a future. These all represent reasons to keep pursuing our goals in life. We have a choice to chase our dreams, not anybody else's, but our own. Take that opportunity and run with it. Because one day the final bell will ring, and I hope that you can say you lived your life to the fullest without regrets. If you have family here today, tell them you love them. My dad has been there every step of the way. Through early mornings, late nights, long

drives, and endless travel to competitions, he never missed a beat. He encouraged me when I doubted myself, reminded me to keep going when I wanted to quit, and celebrated every win with me, big and small. There's no better feeling than hearing, "I'm proud of you." Dad, thank you for believing in me when I didn't fully believe in myself, for teaching me the value of hard work, and for showing me what unconditional love really means. Through everything, there will never be anyone who loves and supports you unconditionally like your family. So, take a moment to thank them. Your parents, guardians, and loved ones, because they helped you get here. And most importantly, thank God for bringing us here today. We are here to pursue our purpose and chase our dreams, no matter the circumstances. Keep faith,

keep believing, and taking every moment. Class of 2026, remember this. Dreams like mine, dreams to reach the Olympics, dreams to change the world, dreams to be our best selves are all within reach if we chase them with courage, passion, and persistence. Life will challenge you, but it will also reward you for daring to try. Congratulations, Class of 2026. I'm beyond proud of us all. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Thank you, Koa, for your words of encouragement. I look forward to seeing what you accomplish in the future. Class of 2026, in just a few moments, you will walk across the stage and receive the diplomas you worked so hard to earn. The achievement of earning a high school diploma is not an easy task. It took perseverance, resilience, and determination to keep going. As you prepare

for this next chapter of your life, you will hear a lot of advice about the future. Today, I want to leave you with one simple idea that I hope stays with you long after graduation, gratitude. Choosing gratitude can change the way you experience life, helping you focus on what is possible rather than what is missing. As you walk across the stage today, I hope you carry gratitude for your time at Village High School. Here, you earned your diplomas in a learning environment that values relationships and flexibility, rooted in the understanding that every student's educational journey looks different, and that's okay. When you came to Village High School, you intentionally chose a path that honored who you were as an individual and supported your unique needs and goals. A few years ago, I had an experience

that changed the way I think about education. One of my favorite things to do is travel with my husband and experience different parts of the world. During one trip to a small Caribbean island, I noticed something I'd never seen before. Some children were walking to school in brightly colored uniforms, while others sat outside their homes watching them pass by. I asked our tour guide why some children weren't in school. He explained that education was not free, and many families simply could not afford to send their children to school. Then he told us how proud he was that he had a job that allowed him to send his own son to school. Even though I understood that education is not guaranteed everywhere in the world, seeing it firsthand affected me deeply. It reminded me how fortunate

we are to live in a place where every child is given the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue a future despite their personal circumstances. That is something worth appreciating. The education you received at Village High School matters and is something I hope that you are grateful for. The lessons you learned here go far beyond assignments, grades, or credits earned. Learning changes the way you think. It shapes your perspective, strengthens your confidence, and helps you discover who you are becoming. What makes Village truly special is not just the academics, it's the people. The teachers, staff, classmates, and relationships you built here shaped this chapter of your story. Those connections matter and they will stay with you long after today. Before you walk across the stage, I want to invite all of you, graduates, families, and guests,

to pause for just a moment and reflect on three things you are grateful for today. Maybe it's a person who supported you, a challenge you overcame, or an opportunity that changed your life. Gratitude has a way of grounding us, especially during moments of change. With the busyness of life, it is easy to forget to pause, embrace the silence, and intentionally practice gratitude. In the wise words of American author Robert Brault, "Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." Graduates, please know how deeply grateful I am for each of you and how truly honored I feel to have walked alongside you for part of your journey. I'm so thankful for the Village staff whose daily dedication to meeting students where they are and helping them grow

is at the core of everything we do. I'm also incredibly appreciative to the Village community for the kindness and support you showed me during my first year here. You made me feel at home. Class of 2026, growth is not always comfortable and change is not always easy, but both are often necessary for us to become the best versions of ourselves. As you close this chapter, I hope you carry with you the courage to keep learning, the resilience to keep trying, the confidence to build a future that you are proud of, and a heart of gratitude for a life in which you get to write your story. Congratulations on all you have accomplished and best wishes as you use the lessons you have learned at Village High School to pursue your passions and goals with purpose.

And now, Dr. Waldrop, I would like to present to you the class of 2026. Principal Carolyn Johnson, thank you, your faculty and your staff for doing an outstanding job. >> [applause] >> Staff, please prepare to present our seniors at this time. Front row, please stand and line up to receive your diplomas. A unique tradition at Village High School is each graduate chooses a staff member to read a thank you note as they walk across the stage to receive

their diplomas. Thank you notes are a way for students to show gratitude for those who helped them along their journey and to celebrate their next steps as they venture out into the world.
