001here. Mrs. Reon here, Mr. Wiznooki >> here. >> Stand for the pledge, please. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. And a moment of silence. >> Thank you. Are there any additions or corrections to the agenda? >> Uh it's already been removed, but I just want to point out due to standard pre-transfer steps that need to be completed by the attorneys, uh we had to remove the tap and resolution from uh the April 22nd board meeting tonight. So that's no longer on here. >> Okay. I need a motion for approval of the agenda. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Roll call. >> Mrs. Calhoun. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Dennison. >>
002Yes. >> Mrs. Rayon. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Seaman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wiznooki? >> Yes. >> Motion approved. >> Do we have anybody who wishes to speak tonight? >> We do not. All right. Thank you. And now, uh, Mr. Ryland, would you take over for Face of Ar? >> Sure. Thank you. Um each month we recognize staff and students who have gone above and beyond to show their face of a raven. Um at this time if I could have all staff and students who are receiving any awards, they can go over here by Dr. Flowers give us a big wave so they can see over there. We're going to do the staff first and the students. It looks like we don't have a lot here. Board members, if you could make your way up to
003the um stage. Um, we're going to read what people have uh said about each of the students and staff. Staff members are nominated by fellow staff members and students are nominated by their teachers and principles uh for the great things they do. And as we read through each one of these um stay there, stay there. Perfect. Um, as we read through each one, we'll we'll uh read a little bit about each of them. They'll get their awards. Um, and then afterwards, uh, we're going to go out in the hallway. We'll take a little break and do pictures along the back side of the auditorium here so that parents and staff can get those pictures taken. Um, at the end of that uh recognition, you're more than welcome to stay or it would also be a
004good time in the middle to uh go home if you don't want to stay for the hourlong meeting. That's up to you. Um, but we'll take a brief recess and then we'll come back in and finish our meeting from there. Okay. Okay. So, our first staff member is Lena Miring. come on across. So, Mrs. Mering is a fifth grade teacher at Brown Middle School and her uh one of her colleagues said she always has a smile on her face. She's a great teacher and she's very patient and makes math fun for kids. She's a first year teacher at Brown and we're really really glad that glad that she's part of our staff. So, congla congratulations Miss Mary. Thank you. All right. Our next staff member is Mr. Austin Gilbert. He's an intervention specialist at Brown
005Middle School. His colleague wrote that Mr. Gilbert showed uh being a face of Raven by bringing a new organization here at Brown FCA which is uh hold on Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also is a hard worker and dedicated teacher at Brown and they knew that he would be a great cha choice for Face of a Raven. Mr. Gilbert's also a young teacher at Brown. So we're really thrilled to have this young staff member here. Thank you for your work. We also had two other staff members. Uh Mrs. Hobart from uh the high school and intervention specialist and uh Miss Casey Henderson. She's grade six uh middle school teacher this year, first year teacher and both uh had some exceptional writeups. They were unable to make it due to uh other obligations this evening. All
006right, onto our students. Our first is preschooler Alana Truex. Alana is a great student who consistently shows kindness to everyone around her. She is a positive role model and leads by example each day. Throughout her time in preschool, she has shown so much growth and they teaching staff is so proud of her. Congratulations our next student who uh Oh, Aubrey, come on up. Down here with Dr. Flowers. Good timing. All right, our first grader is Aubrey Jones. She's a first grader from Williard. It is an honor to nominate Aubrey Jones as face of a Raven. She is in my first grade class, not mine, your teachers. She always comes to school with a smile on her face, excited to learn. She works very hard in every subject and on every assignment. Her handwriting is beautiful.
007Aubrey has a big heart, always caring to her classmates. She gladly helps students who need assistance and encourage them to do their best academically and behaviorally. She is extremely helpful as one of the last bus students at the end of the every day. She takes it upon herself to clean the floor, check the computers to make sure they're plugged in, and lift up the blinds. and her teacher said that she has been so fortunate to teach Aubrey this year. She truly is a face of a raven. Congratulations. All right. Our next student from West Maine is third grader Zoe Tempestilli. Zoe is the face of the raven for West Maine. She consistently demonstrates what it means to be in control, respectful, and responsible. Zoe goes above and beyond by helping walk students to the clinic,
008runs errands to the office for team members, and is always offering a helping hand to anyone in need. She actively participates in every class, and is a positive role model for her peers. And the teacher said, "I have never heard her say an unkind word to anyone. She truly represents what it means to be the face of a raven." So, congratulations, Zoe. Our next student from Brown Middle School is Ryan Everson, escorted by Mrs. Fashing tonight. Thank you. Ryan as a eighth grader. So, Mrs. Morgan nominated you and she said Ryan is a role model student here at Brown Middle School. She has straight A's for the year in all advanced classes. She has only missed one day of school this year. She was one of 10 students from 8th grade selected to attend the
009Portage County Leadership Conference. She is also involved in many extracurricular activities. Ryan is a bright spot here at Brown. Always kind and helpful. She's quick to offer help to staff members as well as students. This year, Ryan and a friend organized a clothing drive at Brown. They organized the entire event themselves, pinpointed specific items. We have a high need for in the building. She does all these things very quietly, never asking for anything in return, only doing them because she wants to see the best for everyone. It goes without saying with Ryan, but she is an excellent example of what respectful, responsible, and in control looks like in Revena School District. She's a true pleasure to be around and is beloved by all. Her hard work has paid off and she has a very bright
010future ahead of her. Congrats, Ryan. And our last student who isn't here tonight is Cohen Ko. He's an 11th grader from Revena High School. And I just want to point out a couple things that his teachers have said. Uh Mr. Parker specially nominated Cohen um said he's been in his class every year at high school as well as during the uh eighth grade and he's watched him grow over the years. It's been rewarding and impressive. Exemplifies academic resilience. Um puts forth a great effort driven not simply by pursuit of grades by a true desire to gain knowledge and develop meaningful skills. Also stands out for his character. readily offers assistance to classmates who are struggling and uh he's just mature, kind, and uh confident. So, congratulations to Cohen. We'll make sure he gets his award.
011Thank you. Okay, at this time, if we could have all of our award members, we're going to meet out in the cafeteria for pictures. As I mentioned, you're more than welcome to stay. If you have other things, you're more than welcome to head home after we're done with the pictures. Thank you. Okay, we're ready for the treasurer's update. All righty. So, we are going to uh for the board members, you do have the sheet in front of you and I'm just waiting for it to get put up on the screen. So this is how our end of March ended in terms of finances. So our revenue we are exceeding our revenue to the forecast by a little over 68,000. Our expenditures are stren are trending below our forecast by a little over a 100,000 and
012this is resulting in a increase of our cash on hand of 168,251 and that is my report. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Um superintendent update. >> All right. I've got just a few things uh to give an update about. First of all, this Wednesday here in the auditorium at 6 pm, we're going to have our state of the schools address um Mrs. Pageman as well as myself uh will be presenting uh items of finance uh curriculum and report cards um building updates on closures and um plans for next year. And then um we will be discussing the OFCC project uh near the end of that. So, I just want to make sure everyone knew uh that it's here in the auditorium at six o'clock on Wednesday. We will also be live streaming that
013in case you're unable to attend or have other events going on that evening. Um we're in the middle of spring sports. We're battling the weather a lot. Um but kudos to the grounds crew um for trying to get the baseball and softball fields together with all the rain. I know we're playing this evening on those as well as uh getting through track meets. Um just a couple things to point out at the end of the year with graduation and prom and everything coming up. Um graduations on a Monday this year, which is a little different than what we've done in the past. Um but we've done that to try and avoid any conflicts with uh track meets and the Maplewood graduation. So that is on Monday, May 18th, uh here at uh the stadium at
0147 p.m. and the rain date is Tuesday the 19th. So hopefully that will avoid a lot of conflicts that we've had in the past with uh other graduations as well as uh track which seems to always run into regionals at the same time. So that's all I have for uh this month. >> All right. Thank you. And now Maplewood. Um Maplewood received a an overall five-star award for the 2425 career technical planning district report card and they were very happy with that, believe me. Um for uh the National Honor Society, there were three from Ravena who were inducted at Maplewood. one was Adriana Crumb, uh Connor McKini, and Llaya Walton. So, we're very proud of our our Revena students who were inducted. And also, a senior Dakota West uh was one of the students of
015the month, the March student of the month. There are only usually two chosen from all of the schools in Portage County. And uh so whenever we get one from Ravena, we're really happy to see them and very proud of them. Uh just a reminder that as um Mr. Ryland Mansion, Maplewood Career Senior Awards Ceremony is going to be May 27th, 700 p.m. at the Kent State University Max Center. And if you're able to attend, that would be great. I know that we do have our high school principal that always attends too. Uh also, uh we did take a tour of the um engineering and um mechanical um arts program. They were very very impressive. They have kids working with all types of machinery that cut metal and and um make these uh objects whatever they
016are for different industries. And a lot of the kids are already employed as interns and will uh some of them will be getting jobs where they are working. Others have already been contacted about uh coming to work for different companies. In our student achievement report, we uh discussed research. This was new research from the University of Chicago and it reaffirmed the cor the connection between uh attendance and achievement. And I think we all know that. We know how important uh being in school is getting the kids to be here and to be attentive. They're not going to learn anything by sitting at home. So, uh, and we know that schools play a vital role in influencing students outcomes, but they cannot be solely blamed for this high rate of chronic absenteeism. There are many factors
017that are outside the school environment that take place. And a lot of that is parents attitude towards the schools and uh how they feel about their kids attending. that they that they think it's not necessary then their kids are going to think it's not necessary. So that's just one factor. There are many others too. But we really want to stress the importance of kids being here in school so that they are getting the best education they can get. Can't get it if they're not here. Thank you. That's my Maplewood report. And also um we have our parks and wreck report. No report this evening. >> All right. Thank you. And moving on. Tracers reports. >> Uh yes. Um I have a consent agenda. Items 12 A1 to A6. 12 A1 is the approval of the
018March 23rd minutes. 12 A2 is the approval of the April 7th minutes. 12 A3 are approval of the March financial reports. 12 A4 is acceptance of gifts and donations. 12 A5 is approval of then and now payments. And 12 A6 is the approval of transfers. >> Could I have a motion? >> So move. >> Second. >> Is there any discussion? Roll call. >> Mrs. Calhoun. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Dennis? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Reon? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Seaman? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wooi? >> Yes. Motion carried. Now we're ready for reports of the superintendent. >> Thank you. Um mine won't be as fast as uh that one. Unfortunately, we got to space a few of these out. Uh 13A1 is to approve second readings of three policies and bylaws. I'm going to tag team
019this one with Miss Pageman. Um the first one is uh for name, image, and likeness. We did read this last month. Um this applies for athletics and OSA trying to set some guidelines um for student athletes. >> Um policy 6465 and this is affinity rewards and other discount programs and um this is providing from the attorney general the define how they define what these programs are and the usage for public school district employees. And the next one is policy 6425, the use of district tax exempt certificate. And this says that no employee can use their own um credit cards um or cash and use our district tax exemption. They have to use the district credit card or we have to have a PO in place. And that is my two. >> So moved. >> Second.
020>> All right. Is there any discussion? Roll call. >> Mrs. Calhoun. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Dennis? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Rayon? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Seaman? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wizooki? >> Yes. >> Motion carried. >> Thank you. Uh, number two is to approve a resolution from the preschool. Um this is to um obtain financial information from parents so that we can provide a new sliding scale for the tuition at preschool for the 2627 school year. And that's based off of the 2025 um federal guidelines because of uh tax returns being a year in the rears. >> All right. Could I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Second. Any discussion? Roll call. >> Mrs. Calhoun. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Dennison? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Rayon? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Seaman? >> Yes. >> Mr.
021Wizooki? >> Motion carries. >> Number three is to approve a resolution um by the Ohio Department of Education Workforce to adopt the 25 model policies for special ed uh for the 2627 school year. And I just want to point out that they're 20 2025 because there were no changes to that this year and so they typically make changes every four or five six years. So we are just readopting the ones from last year that have zero changes. >> Okay. Thank you. Could I have a motion? >> So move. >> Second. >> All right. Any discussion? >> Roll call. >> Mrs. Calhoun. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Dennison. Yes, >> Mrs. Rayon. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Seaman. >> Yes, >> Mr. Wizooki. >> Yes. >> Motion carried. >> Number four is to approve the qualifying seniors for
022graduation for the 2025 2026 uh school year for graduation on May 18th, 2026. I believe we have 169 graduating seniors this year. >> Uh any discussion? Roll call. >> Uh we need a first and a second. nominate. >> So move. >> We don't have a first >> second. >> Oh, I'm sorry. >> We got them. >> All right. Any discussion? >> Roll call. >> Mrs. Calhoun. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Dennison. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Rayon. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Seaman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wizooki. >> Yes. >> Motion carried. >> Item 14 are personnel considerations. This is a consent agenda for A 1 through 8. B 1 through two. A is to accept the resignation of a intervention specialist at Willard. Two is to accept the resignation of an intervention specialist at Revena High School.
023Three is to approve uh recommendation for non-renewal of the ELLL tutor. This is standard. We do this each year and then rehire. Number four is to approve a home instructor for a student that had to uh do their work at home. Number five is to approve the employment of one-year limited contracts. Remember, in the first four years, teachers receive four one-year contracts. and then they move on to a two-year contract, which would be under number six to approve the following as listed for two-year limited contracts. Once they complete that, they then go to number seven, which would be the three-year limited contract approval of the people listed. Number eight is an employment of a substitute teacher for the remainder of the school year. Then we move on to classified under B. One is to accept
024the resignation retirement of the secretary at Williard for the end of the school year. Two is to approve the employment of a substitute educational aid as listed. >> All right. I have a motion. >> So moved. >> Second. >> All right. Any discussion? Roll call. >> Mrs. Calhoun. >> Abstain. >> Mrs. Dennison. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Reon. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Seaman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mr. Rnooki. >> Yes. >> Motion carry. Do we have anybody signed up for um non-aggenda items? >> We do not. >> All right. Uhformational items. The state of the schools, as Mr. Ryland mentioned, will be April 22nd here at the high school. The district art show will also be here on April 25th at noon. The NAAC uh brunch is going to be Saturday, May 2nd at Ravena High
025School. Our next board meeting is Monday, May 11th at 6:00 p. p.m. because of the pizza parade that will be at 5:00 p.m. here at the high school. RHS scholarship award night is Wednesday, May 13th at 6:00 p. p.m. I assume that's at the high school. >> Yes. >> Okay. And senior picnic is Thursday, May 14th at 9:00 a.m. Graduation is Monday, May 18th at the Portage Community Bank Stadium and we have the end of the fourth nine weeks and last day of school on Thursday, May 28th. Teachers last day will be Friday, May 29th. Do you have need of an executive session? >> Uh, we do not. Can I just point out one other thing? We do have our high school drama club is presenting something rotten on Friday evening, Saturday evening and a
026Sunday matinea here at the auditorium. So >> this weekend Saturday and Sunday you said >> yes. >> Friday and Saturday are at 7 and Sunday is at 2. >> 2. >> So you said no executive session. So >> we have no need. Wow. >> Next bit of business is to adjourn. Do I have a motion? >> So move. >> Second. >> Roll call. >> Mrs. Calhoun. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Dennis? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Reon? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Seaman? >> Yes. >> Mr. Ruski? >> Yes. >> Motion carries. >> Nice job.
