One of the great things about Discovery Canyon Campus is that it's a preK through 12 program that we offer. And the opportunities for families to have their children complete their entire school experience at DCC. This is the sixth year that we'll have had graduates who have been here at DCC from
kindergarten through 12th grade. If you are a student who has attended DCC K through 12, please stand to be recognized. Thank you again to all the educators who have helped our students arrive at this pivot pivotal moment today. So, our ceremony now continues with speeches from our class presidents. Please welcome our current and former class presidents as they share. And we'll start out with our freshman class president, Mr. Bod Sukul. Before I get started, I just wanted to say there are multiple fire exits if my speech crashes and burns like my speech from freshman year Thor Wars. I wasn't prepared for the first leg of the road trip, and man, did I learn a lot from that experience. Hello, class of 2025. If you don't know me, nah, you all know who I am. Anyways,
this is insane to look back and think just four years ago, we were just starting this journey. We really felt like it was just last week we were all coming up as small little freshman besides Jude. I'm going to take you on a journey back to those times. The adventure of high school felt like a road trip. At the beginning of our freshman year, we were cautious and scared and we had to wear our masks. You remember these? I do. It was our first semi-normal school year in almost two years. Even though we all had masks on and we still couldn't sit next to each other, it felt like sunny weather outside, windows down, sunroof open. Everything was good. Everything was great. I mean, we did just survive a global pandemic. Our biggest worry in
the world was if we ate outside or ate in the lunchroom or if a tornado could hit and we could be quarantined again. Yet again, life was peak and we all just wanted to grow up as fast as possible, get our license, become upper classmen, and just wanting to grow up. I mean, as freshman, we already knew everything, right? Well, or so we thought. It was our first of many first, first sport practice, even though most of us only made C team and JV, still meant the world. Our first school dances, first heartaches, first times finding the people that we would spend almost every day with for the next four years with. first time thinking we had it all when really not knowing what was in store for us. The road trip had begun and
there was no turning back. At times we would go way under the speed limit while other times flying over it. As Ferris Buer says, life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you can miss it. Although it went super fast, like the start of all road trips, the start is one of the best parts because we were all excited to start, even if it meant we had to start growing up. Thank you. And now I would like to introduce sophomore class president Karina Smith. [Applause] [Music] Good evening, everybody. Today is the day that we've been working toward. After late nights, early mornings, and everything in between, we're finally here. Sophomore year was something special. A year of growth, of friendships deepening, and small moments that became unforgettable. From
the chaos of chemistry to the excitement of football games and dances, sophomore year gave us memories that shaped who we are today. Sophomore year was also the year that we started learning how to drive, not just literally, but through life. At first, we were just figuring out how to even start the car, balancing new classes, new friendships, and new expectations. Some days felt like cruising down an open highway, windows down, everything easy. Other days, the road twisted without warning, and we had no idea what was around the corner. But through it all, we found our place. We started finding each other. And slowly, the unfamiliar started to feel like home. The people we leaned on became our co-pilots. and the memories we made became mile markers that we'll always look back on. By the end,
the skies started to get a little cloudier, hinting that bigger challenges were ahead. But if sophomore year taught us anything, it's that no matter what, we know how to keep moving forward. So tonight, we celebrate not just how far we've come, but how ready we are for whatever is next. Congratulations, class of 2025. We did it. I would now like to introduce our junior class president, Lauren Sangok. People will tell you that junior year of high school is the most challenging. Whether it be because of the phantom of college decisions hanging over your head, the intense workload, or the social transformation that happens throughout the year. At the beginning of junior year, you have your license and are starting to feel more comfortable on this road trip. Junior year starts in full swing and suddenly
you're in the heart of the storm. Juggling academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities is harder than ever and you're doing your absolute best to navigate your way through. The start of international balorate courses, the stress of the SAT, and anticipation of senior year are moments from junior year that made its highlights shine that much brighter. Our first prom, becoming upper classmen, and the general realization that we're growing up, were a reward in themsself for all the effort we'd put forth. Junior year is an emblem of what life will be like. As you enter this next stage of your life, you'll come across many trials and challenges in the path of adulthood. Remember the hard work you've put in during times similar to these. Remember that one math test that everyone did bad on and still the
world didn't end. Be proud of yourself, your achievements, and find comfort in knowing that you have the grit and ability to overcome any obstacles thrown your way. In the words of Billy Joel, "Slow down. You're doing fine. You can't be everything you want to be before your time. Discovery Canyon campus class of 2025. Your future is waiting for you. Make the present worth your time. I would now like to invite up your senior class president, Jude Shahida. [Applause] Hello, my friends. Now, it's finally my time to talk to you about our senior year. Now, when you think of senior year, what comes to mind? The memories, the people you spent it with, the coasting through it, on the edge of being done with it all. To me, all those things come to mind. When I
think of our senior year, I think of the end. The end of our journey of high school and the end of our childhood. the end of the most treasured moments that all of us have ever experienced up until this point. I think of us finally on the path that we've been looking for our whole lives. Smooth sailing. Smooth sailing after the hard part of the road trip where you're just about to see the end. Smooth sailing until you reach that final destination and move on to the next big road trip. This is what inspired this speech. The fact that we've made it. We've made it through the bad and enjoyed the good. Senior year has been the wrap-up to our to what we have made our lives so far. Senior year has been the reward
for the pain and difficulties we faced in the junior year. Senior year has been the relaxing that we've earned after a difficult high school time. We found our friends. We found our path. And we've successfully navigated through this road trip of high school. Looking back on the memories from this year, too many come to mind to even name. From our last homecoming dance to the last football game all the way to the last prom that we'll ever experience. Throughout this journey that was this last year, I'm sure all of us had fun making the most of the time you had left. And hopefully this was the continuation of this chapter of our lives that we all wanted. A quote that has always stuck with me is in the words of Master Uguay. Today is a
gift. That is why it's called the present. Remember my friends, the next journey will be the best one. Live your life to the fullest and cherish every moment and every memory that you make up until the last one. Thank you for the honor of being your president. And for one last time, bacon [Applause] out. Thank you class presidents. I would now like to introduce the Discovery Canyon Campus High School Varsity Choir performing for good from Wicked composed by Steven Schwarz. [Music] I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason. something we must learn. And we are [Music] help for orbit as it passes the sun like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood. You can say I'm changed for the better because I knew you. I have been
changed for [Music] good again. So let me say before we made [Music] you like a handrint on my heart and now our stories I know you have written mine by being my Like a ship blown from it by a wind off the sea. Like I can see by a skyird in a distant wood. Who can say I' been changed for the better? Because I knew [Music] you just I forgiveness for the things I've done you blame me for. But then I guess we know there's blame to share and none of it seems to matter anymore. [Music] Who can say I've been changed for the better? I do believe I have been changed for the better. [Music] Because I knew [Music] you knew you. I have been changed for good. [Music] Thank you, Mrs. McGuffin, and
our DCC choir students. Special thank you to our senior choir students. Thank you for one last song. Next up, I would love to welcome up Bren Mros. Come on up. Bren is the first student in DCC history to successfully pass legislation at the Colorado State House. It's a big deal. Featured on the front page of the Colorado Gazette, she is the co-founder and president of Women in STEM and Engineering Club. and has been nationally recognized for accomplishments in the engineering field. Please give it up and a big hand for Bren Mros who will be speaking at our future school. Class 2025, how we doing tonight? Oh, that was kind of weak. Parents and family, how are we doing tonight? I fear you did not win that one. You see, our freshman year of high school,
we were asked to write smart goals. Now, for anyone who doesn't know, the intention was that by the end of our time at high school, we would have accomplished these goals and gain skills to use in our future endeavors. Wow. My goal was to be the class of 2025 graduation speaker. And I recognize that might sound random. I mean, after all, the majority of your goals revolved around your grades or your sports or your plans after high school, and understandably so. But I very quickly realized that I was surrounded by an incredibly unique group of people. And I want to be able to stand here four years later, face to face, and tell you just how impressed I am by the quality of your character. Nevertheless, as we transition from reminiscing on the past to
looking forward towards the future, there is one thing that I want for each and every one of you. I want you to fail. Oh, I can see we didn't like that one very much. I mean, that checks out. We've spent our whole lives being told that failure is a bad thing. We associated with a loss of self-worth or an inability to see success in the imminent future. But what if we could make failure our ally? Now, believe me when I tell you that nobody in this room has failed quite like I have. Actually, if you didn't know, I was on the dive team my sophomore year of high school. I took flop to a whole another level. But I want to remind this room that the absence of failure isn't the presence of success. It's
the presence of mediocrity. And if there's one thing I can say with absolute certainty, it's that I don't believe anybody in this room to be mediocre. No. No. I want you to put yourself so irrevocably out there that the idea of failure isn't only possible but it's probable because that is when we truly succeed. And if you don't believe me, class of 2025, I invite Thor Wars record. I mean, freshman year we lost, sophomore year we lost, junior year we lost. But remind me who won this year's Thor Wars again. Okay, I'll take was it rigged per chance? But a win is a win. So, class of 2025, I don't want you to just dream big. I want you to fail big. I want you to fall and to get back up because that is
when success is made. And that is how we will leave our mark no matter where life takes us. Set goals, fail, adapt, and as always, go Thunder. Thank you. and I get to follow that. So, thank you, Bren. Outstanding job. I would now like to welcome our superintendent, Mrs. Jim Ginger Haber. Ginger Haber is a Colorado native who brings more than 30 years of educational experience and expert expertise to Academy School District 20. She comes from a long family lineage of educators who instilled in her the desire to inspire others to be lifelong learners. And after starting her career pathway as a registered nurse, she soon realized that her true passion was to be an educator. Ginger has served in many roles from the classroom to administration, including earning national board certification as a science
teacher and serving as a middle and high school principal as an assistant superintendent of student achievement and a superintendent in the state of Washington. Ginger is proud to be back in her home in the state of Colorado as a superintendent of Academy School District 20 where team one spirit ensures that all students thrive. Well, congratulations class of 2025. Go Thunder. Today marks the culmination of your hard work, your resilience, and dedication. You faced late nights, challenging exams, moments of doubt, but you never gave up. And today is your moment to reflect on all you've accomplished and take pride in your journey. Our D20 vision for you is that you have the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to be successful beyond graduation. But none of this would have been possible without the help from your family,
your friends, your teachers, your coaches, and other mentors. They've been with you every step of the way, and today they share in your success. So, let's take a moment again and thank them for their unwavering belief in you. Personally, I'm reminded of the legacy of my own parents, Carl and Jane Johnston. My mother was a kindergarten teacher and my father, a high school English and journalism teacher. And together, they taught me the importance of collaboration, communication, and being a lifelong learner. And even though they are no longer with me, their influence continues to shape my journey. And I encourage you to hold tight to those lessons from those who have helped you along the way. So graduates, listen to the wisdom that's shared with you by others. A poem that captures the very essence of
values like humility, grace, and living life well is Ruddard Kipling's If. Kipling was a prolific writer who won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1907. He had one son, John Kipling, and we can infer that this poem was written for him before John left to be a soldier in World War I. And even though this poem was written for his son and somewhat reflects the culture of the times, there are ageless truths embedded within. And I encourage you to listen for what resonates most with you. If by Redard Kipling. If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you. If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting, too. If you can wait and not be tired by waiting or
being lied about, don't deal in lies. Or being hated, don't give way to hating. And yet, don't look too good nor talk too wise. If you can dream and not make dreams your master. If you can think and not make thoughts your aim. If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two impostors just the same. If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken twisted by naves to make a trap for fools. or watch the things you gave your life to broken and stoop and build them up with worn out tools. If you can make a heap of all your winnings and risk it on one turn of pitch and toss and lose and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss. If you can force
your heart and nerve and senue to serve your turn long after they are gone. And so hold on when there is nothing in you except the will which says to them hold [Music] on. If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue or walk with kings nor lose the common touch. If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you. If all men count with you, but none too much. If you can fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run, then yours is the earth and everything in it. And which is more, you'll be a man, my son. Class of 2025, your future is filled with endless possibilities. So stay curious, be resilient, and dream big. I am confident that you will shape our world in remarkable ways. And as a D20
grad, we welcome you back to share about your future adventures. So let's give it up again for the class of 2025. Thank you, Miss Habber. Students, class of 2025, you made it. I'm glad you're each here for one last time. We're all in this together for one last time. I've told you in the past that graduation's my favorite day of the year. It's not because of the drip. It's not because the outfits. It's not because it's the end and it's not because of the pomp and circumstance. It's my favorite day of the year because the reflection that it brings. I love thinking about the things that you've accomplished and the moments that brought you here today. I love seeing the pride in your family's eyes as they reflect on what the last 18 years has
looked like with you. families, I see you. Thank you for letting us be partners in your graduate story. Most of all, I love graduation because it's a pivotal moment of hope that we can all be inspired by as we watch you transition forward as adults. I have a belief that you're going to do great things. And I hope that the partnership between your family and the school and your teachers and counselors has prepared you for that journey. I lean on that hope and that belief knowing that your future is now truly in your hands. We hope that everything that we have been doing to teach you has made an impact on you and that when you leave us and you go out in the real world, you'll do the right thing. I have hope for
each of your journey journeys forward and I'm proud of you. I think it's worthy to recognize some of your achievements. So, let us begin with that healthy reflection of what hard work your hard work has achieved leading to tonight's ceremony. You have done well at DCC academically. You have accomplished so much in your K12 journey. Your hard work in the classroom has given you all very many paths to choose from as you go forward. You are prepared for your next steps. Students, if you completed the international balora diploma program, please stand to be recognized. [Applause] This required you to take at least six IB classes, including three higher level courses, completing the extended essay in tremendous detail with great research into an intriguing topic of your own choice based on your own passions. Congrats on
completing the most rigorous challenge we have to offer. Thank you. If you completed our IB career related path or program, please stand to be recognized. Through this pathway, you dove into your passions in either business, teacher, cadet, biomedical sciences, and engineer or engineering where you not only completed the challenging pathway, but also took at least two rigorous IB courses. Wrote a reflective project around an ethical dilemma related to your pathway, examining all sides and taking on the tough challenge of defending all sides. Congrats on chasing your passions with rigor and inquiry. Good job. And finally, all of our dcc graduates have taken at least one IB course and have worked hard to challenge their thinking to become globally minded students whose inquiry who use inquiry to solve problems. Your hard work has spoken volumes. But
remember, your journey for learning does not end here. May it be said of you that you continued to pursue growth as lifelong learners. Additionally, class of 2025, I want to take a moment of tell you how impressed I am by you and what you've done outside the classroom and your activities and athletics. And you've continued our culture of excellence here at Discovery Canyon campus, making our school so spectacular. Our coaches and sponsors are incredibly proud and have enjoyed coaching you in each of those events. You've demonstrated so much learning in your pursuit of your own areas of passion and you represented your school well. Artistically, many of you inspired us from the stage and in the performing arts and in the fine arts. You've done this as band and orchestra standouts, making wonderful music with
many of you qualifying as individuals for the state ensembles. As choir singers, you have inspired the whole campus community, including tonight. And additionally, many of you have made All State Choir as thespians who dazzled audiences in performances with a myriad of plays, musicals, and as an improv troop, including this year being named state champions in [Applause] improv. And as artists with inventive creations that have been spotlights of our shows at the school and beyond. Performers and artists, may your creative minds continue to thrive in your future. Athletically among you, we have also had three PE league champions in football who defeated PBLO East for the in the playoffs for the first time in school history. Regional champions in cross country who championed each of their other team other teammate successes. Regional champions in softball as
juniors who have helped c coach our future players. Regional qualifiers in girls volleyball that led with tremendous class. Athletes who have led underassman well in boys and girls soccer. Boys and girls tennis players who've qualified and competed at state. Boys and girls golfers who've completed and qualified in state. Cheerleaders who have competed at the state and national level. Girls basketball players who qualified for state this year and reestablished a culture of excellence. Boys basketball players who led to the best record in school history and were one of the top ranked teams in the state. Boys and girls wrestlers who have competed at regionals and many who have qualified, including a fourth and fifth place finisher. girls swimmers who not only excelled individually in relays at the state finals, but also won DCC's first state swim
title this year. Boys, boys swimmers who competed well at state last weekend, including a third place finisher and had an undefeated season. Boys volleyball regional champions who qualified for state and have helped us establish a strong program. Baseball players who are competing for state and have had the best season in our history and will be hosting regionals on Saturday. Lacrosse, flag football, and hockey players who've competed for district teams at the state playoffs. And track and athletes who have performed well at regional events and will be competing starting tomorrow at the state track meet. And many more of you have done other things outside of our purview. You've been e you've done esports. You've been equestrian riders and dancers. Many of you received state and and um league honors. Athletes, we are proud of you.
Thank you for competing for the Thunder. Furthermore, many of you future industry leaders have demonstrated tremendous leadership and creativity in other activities, including creating business pitches and projects and presenting them at Future Business Leaders of America and DECA competitions at the state and national level. Competing in hosted competitions and creating new innovations and presentations in the biomedical sciences, competing in spa speech and debate and winning a state champion in speech. state championship in speech as juniors crafting engineering marvels through project lead the way including launching supersonic rockets and creating drones aimed at your principal's head creating new clubs like women in STEM and engineering and getting national news recognition for a swing that charges cell phones your brilliant minds are truly going to shape the future and finally many of you have served our campus
in various service organizations including No Place for Hate Air Force Junior ROC sources of strength, national honor society, different honor societies for each content. And I want to give a special s shout out to our st students who have led our special events all four years. They planned, they prepared many unique events including Thor Wars. And remember class 2025, it was not rigged. You were champions. Graduates, you are remarkable people and I am proud to have seen you grow. As you continue your journey, please remember these successes and achievements were the products of your hard work and dedication. You spent countless hours in the gym, in the weight room, in the practice field, in the sta on the stage with no spectators watching, studying between activities, and in rooms, planning projects in collaboration with others.
Your future journey will require the same amount of dedication and hard work. So take what you've learned from these experiences, apply it to your new experiences, and let them shape your future endeavors. Now, let me finish with reminding you of the hope is what of the thing that I love most about graduation. Tonight, friends, it's a false summit. We're not at the end. It is only the beginning. It's the beginning of a new adventure. On your journey, there will be moments that you can predict, and there will be moments that will surprise you. As Remy from Ratatouille has said, the only thing predictable about life is unpre its unpredictability. So be prepared to be surprised, take risks, and try new things. Be flexible to new opportunities, but stand strong on your morals. I feel as
though I need to reuse his quotes from Benjamin Franklin each year at graduation because I truly believe each graduate needs to hear it. Remember, he said, "Well done is better than well said." Today, I challenge you to let your actions speak louder than your words. You will be asked in the coming days, where are you going? What are you doing? What are your goals? What are you going to achieve? And you can have answers, and that's great. It's exciting. But remember, it is what you do that truly matters. Make each moment count. Do it well. It is what you do that will define you in each moment of your life. It does not mean that you, as Brendan said earlier, will not face failure. Sometimes things will not go as planned. Do not fear failure.
You will experience it. It's okay. It's a natural part of life. It's necessary for your growth. And as as Master Uguay also said to Po, our greatest teachers in life are often our mistakes. So own your mistakes. Be humble. Seek feedback so you can learn from your experiences and grow. Do not let the fear of failure keep you from trying and taking healthy risks and pursuing new opportunities. It is what you do next that matters most. Finally, it is imperative remember that in order for your actions to be done well, you have to do them in community and share them with others. No one has ever heard well done in isolation. So remember that it was in community that you competed for Thor Wars and were victorious. It's in community tonight that we celebrate you
here. The opportunity for new community may be one of the things that I've enjoyed most in my life. And as you go forward, remember you're going into the world with independence, but you're going to have to lean on others. So seek to build new friendships, relationships, and partnerships. Please remember that each person is different. So as you interact with people in other communities, lean on the words of Ted Lasso, be curious and not judgmental. If you take this approach, you'll be amazed at what you will learn from others. You can be a part of building others up, be challenged to grow in yourself, and have people to celebrate alongside. So, leave a positive mark on your community with your family and enjoy others. They will become part of your story as truly, class of 2025,
you have become part of mine. I've been blessed to be your principal. So, graduates, cherish the memories of what you've accomplished here at DCC. Celebrate them with your families, but more than that, carry hope into your future. You can achieve mark remarkable things. May it say be said of you at each stage of your life, well done. You know who loves you. Go [Applause] Thunder. Now, the moment you're really here for. Our board of education representative, Mr. Aaron Salt, will be receiving the 2025 graduates. Mr. salt. I have more cords than all of you. Pardon me. I'm not used to having anything like hair on my head, so this is a little bit more challenging. Hey guys, that felt pretty dog on good. I'm so proud of you. You did it. Give it up again for our class of [Applause] 2025. Hearing your names being recognized by our staff right here in front of all your families and friends. We are so proud of you. I would love now to bring up the disco student body president, Miss Charize Heapner, to share her parting thoughts to lead us
into the tradition of turning the tassel. So, please welcome our friend Charlisse. [Applause] [Music] Class of 2025, we did it. We made it through being freshmen, our personal projects, SAT and ACT tests, and senioritis. For all of us, this journey was bumpy with some unexpected turns. Every choice we made affected the route we each took. Some choices may have been good, some bad, ones that got us in trouble, others that gained reward, some that we look back at with g with with gratitude, and others we would rather not mention. The good news is that this is the moment to hit the reset button. a time to not let our own choices define who we are, but instead shape us to who our little selves wanted us to become. As we share our final moments as
a class together and begin paving our own paths, I leave you with this. It has been said that hate has four letters, but so does love. Enemies has seven letters, but so does friends. Lying has five letters, but so does truth. Failure has seven letters, but so does success. Cry has three letters, but so does joy. And negativity has 10 letters, but so does positivity. We always have a choice. Our mindset matters. Even though Lorax said, "A tree falls the way it leans, so be careful which way you lean." I encourage you every day to choose how you want to lean into your future. These moments are short and you can never take them back. Appreciate the life you have. Live it for yourself and live it for love with love. Lastly, the graduation ceremony
is full of symbolism and metaphor. The gowns, hoods, and cords all represent traditions of generations past. There is one final metaphor to fulfill that of the turning of the tassel. Today, as we leave Discovery Canyon campus as students, we become alumni of our school. Today, we move our tassel from right to left, acknowledging that while we will always be a part of the Thunder, our role has changed. Today, we are graduates. Please join me in moving your tassel. [Applause] Congratulations graduates. And one last time and as always, go Thunder. [Applause] Congratulations, class of 2025. And it's official. You are [Music] dismissed. Staff, let's begin the brief [Applause] beat. Hey. Hey. Hey. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Hallelujah. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I don't [Music] Hallelujah.
