[Music] Oh, say can you see by the dawn early so proud we held at twilight [Music] Gleaming stripes and bright stars through the flight. [Music] And the rockets red the bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, does that star spangle
yet for the land of the [Applause] [Music] free and the home of the brave home of the brave. Thank you. You may be seated. Good afternoon. It is now my honor to introduce a group of individuals who have played integral roles in shaping the journey of our graduates. Please join me in welcoming the representatives from our Academy School District 20 administration. Their leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to excellence has been instrumental in guiding our educational community towards success. Our superintendent, Mrs. Ginger Habberer, Deputy Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer, Miss Becky Allen, Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services, Dr. Susan Field, Director for Curriculum and Instruction, Mrs. Tacy Killingsworth. Next, let us acknowledge the members of the Academy School
District 20 School Board. Their efforts and advocacy for quality education have helped pave the way for the achievements we are celebrating today. Our school board president, Mrs. Amy Shandi, vice president, Mrs. Nicole CS treasurer Mr. Derek Wilburn Director Mr. Aaron Salt Director Mrs. Lauren Yanes and our United States Air Force Academy liaison Colonel Chio Stalworth. I would also like to introduce the members of the Liberty administration team who provide guidance and support that foster an environment where our graduates could find a place to stand and thrive and excel. Our principal, Mr. Matthew Sison, the assistant principal for the class of 2025, Mr. Timothy Hill, Assistant Principal, Miss Kelly Hy, Dean of Students, Mrs. Heather Conurs, and Dean of Students, Mrs. Caitlyn Eper. It is also highly important that I recognize a special group of individuals
who are instrumental in fostering the growth and success of our students throughout their high school careers. Our Liberty High School staff members are among the best educators I have encountered and they serve as mentors, guides, and inspirations to our students. They are tireless in their efforts in supporting student success in the classroom. Our staff is committed to excellence in teaching, the use of innovative instructional strategies, and cultivating positive relationships with students. Liberty staff members, please stand and be recognized. [Applause] And finally, it is with great pleasure that I introduce our student speakers from the class of 2025. These individuals represent the caliber of this graduating class and the commitment to achievement both inside and outside the classroom. They represent numerous programs on campus including student council, national honors society, athletics, performing arts, and knowledge bowl
just to name a few. These fantastic students are models for academic achievement and they all have very bright futures ahead of them. Our valadictorian, Weston Mson, our saludiatoran, Rebecca Boswell, our commencement speaker, Anna Finkelstein, our student body president, Adeline Owen, from the class of 2025 as well, Mia Garcia. and also from the class of 2025, Alexandra [Applause] Graham. Now, it is my pleasure to give a few more details about our first student speaker. This young lady has put her heart and soul into Liberty High School for the past four years. She's involved in student council, varsity girls golf, and link crew. As a leader, she demonstrates positivity, resilience, integrity, and dedication to all her endeavors. In addition to her involvement at school, she maintains a part-time job outside of school. Next year, she will be
attending Utah Valley University and majoring in forensic psychology. Ladies and gentlemen, your student body president for the class of 2025, Miss Adeline Owen. Okay. Good afternoon everyone and thank you for being here today to celebrate the class of 2025. My name is Adeline Owen and I have had the privilege of being this year's student body president. I am beyond excited to be standing up here today sharing this moment with you all, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little sad knowing this might be the last time we're all together. Each of us have formed friendships that have carried us through the hard days and made the good days even better. We've spent years waiting for this moment, sometimes wishing it would come faster. In elementary school, we waited for reading logs
to be over, for recess, and for the next class party with pizza. Throughout middle school, we waited to see whose locker was next to ours, waited for lunch, and waited for high school to begin. Once we got to high school, we waited for dances, PLC late starts, and of course, our own senior year, for our own events, and for our own stories to tell. We started the year waiting for the sun to rise on our first day. Later that same week, we had the long awaited paint fight before the back to school dance, except we did powder for the very first time. We went to our Gotham City homecoming week, winning powderpuff, winning the spirit stick at the pep rally, and overall having an incredible start to senior year. We waited for Thanksgiving and for
Christmas. We watched football games, soccer games, basketball games, and the amazing plays and musicals. Second semester flew by, which was probably the first time that happened for a lot of us. Senioritis hit us all, especially after spring break. Most of us justifying even more reasons to procrastinate. We made it to testing week, the first the first year we finally didn't have to test. Then, of course, the countdown to our miles the countdown milestone events. Skip day, the incredible prom, senior prank, and then before we knew it, we were waiting for the sun to set on our last day. Then of course we waited for this, our own graduation. The moment we had been imagining since we first walked through those doors. My hope is that we didn't spend so much time waiting for the future
that we forgot to live in the moment. That we remembered to cherish the late nights with friends when we should have been studying. The Dutch runs and Taco Bell stops that turned into parking lot therapy sessions. the inside jokes and the times we managed to actually enjoy school, not just survive it. These are the kinds of memories we'll tell stories about for years to come. I am incredibly grateful for the memories we've made over the past 13 years. So many of them wouldn't be possible without you all. To our teachers, thank you for challenging us, believing in us, and occasionally pretending not to notice when we walked in late. I want to thank Miss Don and Miss Onlicker for helping me through these four years, especially the last two years I've got to have them
as student council adviserss. They have made a huge positive impact on my life, as have many other teachers over the past years. To our coaches, thank you for teaching us to grow and persevere, not only in our sports, but in our lives. Thank you to coach Babett and coach Hario for helping me through senior season with recovery and including me in the team even without being able to play. To my family, thank you for your constant love and support even on the hard days. To my friends, consider this your shout out. Thank you for the laughs, pep talks, and being there through it all. As we look ahead to whatever comes next, college, trade schools, the military, a gap year, or anything else, I truly believe in every single one of you. Just don't forget
to live in the moment. Before I close, I want to invite the entire class of 2025 to stand. [Applause] Seniors, please look around and wave to all the people you can find who helped get where you are today. Parents, teachers, friends, and families, please cheer as loud as you can to show these kids how proud you are. Now seniors, as Noah Khan said, you're going to go far. So keep making those memories. Congratulations, class of [Applause] 2025. Hello everyone. Thank you for your attendance and support on this special occasion. My name is Mia Garcia and I would like to take the next few moments to introduce you to our saludiatoran, Rebecca Boswell. When I asked Becky how she wanted people to remember her after graduation, she told me I wanted to be a role model
for some. I think I speak for the whole class of 2025 when I say that Becky has not only been a role model for some, but for every single person she has encountered in her last four years at Liberty High School. She is a bright soul, a joy to be around, and a talented musician. Seriously, now that you're able to hear her perform today with the band, savor it. She is incredible. She puts so much passion into every aspect of her life. Her music, academics, relationships with friends, families, and teachers, and even with the speech she will share with you all today. She is incredibly humble and has always offered herself as a support for those who need it. She has absolutely earned the honor of standing in front of you all today. Everyone, please
join me in giving a round of applause to our saludiatoran, Rebecca Boswell. Good afternoon. It is an honor to be here today with you all to celebrate one of life's most memorable achievements. I think we can all agree that high school is a challenging time in our lives, but it becomes much easier to get through when students receive support from the people who care about them most. These extraordinary people deserve the utmost thanks. I would especially like to thank our superintendent, Mrs. Ginger Habberer, the members of the Academy District 20 school board, Liberty High School's principal, Mr. Matthew Sison, honored guests, and all of the amazing parents, friends, and family for playing this supportive role. I would also like to thank my family, my mom, my dad, and my brothers, Jack and Will, for being
so loving to me. Unfortunately, Jack is not in attendance today because he is serving our country overseas. And I know that takes greater courage than it does for me to get on this stage and give a speech. So, I think I'll give him a pass this time. But without a doubt, the reason all of us are gathered here at Clooney Arena today is to recognize the incredible class of 2025. [Applause] Everyone always says life is not fair. Parents tell their kids they won't always get what they want. I can't argue with these statements. It is true that we don't always get credit for our achievements or that we don't always get everything we deserve in life. However, we don't need to depend on how fairly life treats us in order to be successful and happy.
Instead, we should be defined by what we can do for ourselves to find this joy. For me, it's being involved in music. Ever since I was little, I played the piano, learning all my favorite songs in addition to new ones. When I got older, I realized that piano and music were passions of mine. So, I found myself joining middle school band. I chose a new instrument to learn and quickly got the hang of playing the obo. Continuing into high school, I also joined the marching band where I learned to play the snare drum. Going to band class has given me a break from all my homework and my difficult classes and a chance to joke around with my friends while sharing the joy of music. Playing my piano at home clears my mind of stress
and worry. Even singing in the shower relieves me from the great expectations of life. I have come to realize that music provides a distraction from my everyday stress. And the joy I feel when I create music has reminded me that life doesn't need to be fair. It just needs to be fulfilling. I want to be clear that I'm not saying you shouldn't ever worry about anything or even that you shouldn't strive for perfection. Stress reflects that you care about your goals and it is healthy in moderation. It leads you to work hard in the face of adversity, to fight against the unavoidable unfairness of life, and ultimately to bring you a reward in some way. I know we all want to do our best at everything and never stop aiming for that. But as Mr.
Facelman says, always achieve at a level of which you are capable. And most of all, do not let stress consume you. I encourage all of you to find your equivalent to what music is to me. Search for your distraction, your passion, you might call it. Whatever takes your mind off of grades, due dates, work deadlines, and other responsibilities, is vital to your personal happiness and growth. After all, you can never reach your full potential without being happy while doing it. Thank you. [Applause] It is my honor to introduce this year's commencement speaker, a student whose dedication, leadership, and academic excellence have left a lasting impression on our school. Over the past four years, she has been a standout leader both in the classroom and on the field, captaining both our varsity cheerleading team and our
girls golf team. A committed four-year athlete in both sports, she has led by example, bringing spirit, discipline, and perseverance to every challenge she's faced. Academically, she has distinguished herself among her peers, earning high honors with an impressive 4.38 GPA and graduating seventh in her class. In the fall, she will attend the College of William and Mary, becoming the first student from Liberty to do so, where she plans to double major in psychology and neuroscience. Please join me in welcoming your 2025 commencement speaker, Anna Finkelestein. [Applause] Thank you, Mr. Hill, for that introduction. Good afternoon. I am excited and humbled to represent the class of 2025 as our graduation speaker. I'd like to start by recognizing that none of us got here by ourselves, so some thanks are in order. Superintendent Habber, Academy School District 20
board members and honored guests. Thank you so much for supporting the students of Lancer Nation. Mr. Sison, as students, we want to thank you for supporting us, but especially outside of the classroom. You have been to so many of our games, competitions, and performances. And it means a lot to know that somewhere in the crowd, towering above everyone else, is our principal proudly wearing his Lancer gear. To the parents, family, and friends in attendance, you have been our biggest cheerleaders, and your support has made all the difference. And of course, thank you, class of [Music] [Applause] 2025. We did it. The last four years have been great and I can't wait to see what the next chapter brings for all of us. And though it is our moment, we can't forget the teachers who have
helped us get here. They have devoted countless hours, lunch periods, and much of their free time to our growth as both students and human beings. I'd like to mention just a few of the staff members who have prepared me for so much more than just a test. Mr. Donald, Miss Ward, Mr. Roger, cheer coaches Nikita, Nicole, Cararissa, and Taylor, golf coaches Babbot, and Hermio, and the late Coach Smith. The lessons you've taught me extend far beyond the classroom and will stay with me long after I graduate today. So classmates, remember to thank the teachers, coaches, and counselors that have made today possible for you. And in that spirit, I have one more teacher I'd like to thank. That teacher has only ever graced the parking lot of Liberty High School. My 2006 Nissan Extera. That
car is a manual. And just like the last four years, it has taught me many lessons. If you've never learned to drive on a stick shift, it is the exact same as learning to drive an automatic, except four times as difficult. It's full of starts and stops. You think you have everything figured out, and you do not, and you might need a little help from a friend. I quickly learned that you aren't going to get everything on the first try, but you have to keep turning the key if you want to go somewhere. One of the many things that makes driving manual so difficult is balance. Balancing the gears, the clutch shifting, and of course the gas and the brake, which can be a lot kind of like high school. There have been moments when
it felt impossible to juggle finishing all my assignments, going to the football game, and still being home in time for dinner. The key is focusing on what's important. knowing where you're going, having the right people in the car, and knowing that you might have to take a detour on the way. The final lesson my car taught me is one I find especially important now. Slowing down matters. Even now, after I have mastered driving a stick shift, I find myself anticipating the green light, eager to speed ahead. And sometimes I get a little too excited, take my foot off the clutch a little too quickly, and the car stalls. So I have to take a deep breath, restart the car, and slowly ease off the clutch to move forward. As we sit here today, waiting for
our diplomas, our green lights. I encourage all of you to take a deep breath and remember to slow down every now and again. To get here, we have learned a lot from teachers, family, and some unexpected mentors. I urge you to continue your learning wherever the journey takes you. And as you drive away today, remember to embrace the ride even when there's a pothole or two. Thank you and congratulations. [Applause] Give me a second. I need to get my story straight. My friends are in the bathroom, skipping class, waiting to graduate. My teacher, she's waiting for me just across the hall. My grades been dropping every single day ever since the fall. I know I gave up on them months ago. I know you're trying to forget. But between the weeks and subtle things and
the holes in my apies, you know I'm trying hard to take it back. know if by the time the door closes and you feel like falling down, I'll carry you home. Tonight we are young. So let's set the world on fire. We can burn brighter than the sun. Tonight we are young. So let's set the world on fire. We can burn brighter than the sun. I know that. don't know all that you got. I guess that I just thought maybe we could find ways to fall apart. But our friends are back. So let's raise [Music] a car tonight. We are young, so let's set the world on fire. We can burn brighter than the [Music] sun. N Tonight was on your side. There's a reason why someone come and carry me home tonight. Never arrive,
but I can hear the choir. So will someone come and carry me home tonight. We are young. So let's set the world on fire. We can burn brighter than the sun. [Music] So by the time the door closes and you feel like falling down, I'll carry you home tonight. [Applause] Hi. Hi. My name is Alex Graham and it is an honor to introduce to you and highlight our valadictorian, Weston [Applause] Monson. Weston finished with a stunning 4.57 GPA, but he is so much more than just those three numbers. He's the ultimate dream chaser. This speech is the reason I got to meet Weson for the first time. actually. But oddly enough, it felt as if we known each other for years, sharing the same wavelength. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no 4.57, but I
do know a thing or two about having a dream and giving it all I've got to make sure it became my reality. Ever since Weston's freshman year, his dream has become has been to become validictorian. And ever since I was a little girl, my dream has been to play division one softball and to one day live in New York City. When I think about what our younger selves would say today, all I can hear them chanting is, "We did it. We did it." Wes and I can both advocate that when you have a dream you find worth chasing, you have to choose that dream over and over again. You have to choose devotion over distractions. You have to choose long-term fulfillment over temporary fun. You have to bounce back harder than you were knocked down.
Choose to be comfortable with missing out and trust that where you are headed is worth every ounce of grit, persistence, and sacrifice along the way. Weston represents the dreamchasers like you and me. He stands for the passion and discipline needed on any journey to chasing a dream. So, with the privilege to introduce Weston and shed light on his accomplishment, I leave you with this. Don't give up on the dream that you find worth chasing. And most importantly, do not let doubt or discouragement keep you from your I made it moments. It's been a blast to chase my dream within the four walls of Liberty High School, but even more so, an honor to introduce to you Weston Monson. You might have to bend down. All right, there we go. Cool. Um, the dictionary defines cliche
as opening one's graduation speech with a dictionary definition. Now that the bar has been set appropriately low, I welcome Miss Habberer, the members of the Academy District 20 school board here with us, Mr. Sison, parents, honored guests, and of course, class of [Applause] 2025. First and foremost, I would like to thank all of my amazing family, friends, and teachers. Specifically, I wish to thank my absolutely fantastic parents who supported me when life got difficult. Thank you to all of my teachers who each helped me learn in unique ways and more importantly taught me to have fun along the way. Speaking of fun, I'd like to thank all six of my siblings for their contributions to my life. my relatives, my close friends, Josh, whom I promised to include in this speech back when I didn't
think I'd earn it, and my fellow classmates in the class of 2025. I learned many lessons throughout high school in and out of the classroom, but if I could share just one with you all today, it would be this. To be successful, you must overcome obstacles. We have all felt how hard it is to start working on a goal or assignment. Whether it's a project for a class that just isn't working for you, a presentation for work that you dread, a large cleaning task, or a speech you've been asked to write for a graduation ceremony. Getting started is often more difficult than the task itself. This is the first hurdle for any goal, deciding for yourself to follow through. As Wayne Gretzky famously put it, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Challenge
yourself. Dream big. Decide whether your dreams are worth following. And if they are, commit to accomplishing them. After you have decided to pursue your goals, all that's left is for you to overcome every roadblock involved. You'll have to plan for your own tasks, but let me share one of my learning experiences as an example. I took the AP Calculus AB exam last year. I had worked hard all year and done well in class, and I wanted my exam to reflect that. But studying an entire year worth of content felt like an overwhelming task. First, I had to decide to commit. I reminded myself of my dedication to the subject, my desire to go into engineering, and the work I had already done throughout the year. I then broke my study down into smaller goals, including
studying my formulas, reviewing weak areas, and using practice tests. Afterwards, I scheduled times to study. Finally, I followed through with my plan. I've been awarded college credit going into BYU Provo and had the privilege of completing the BC exam yesterday. These general principles, breaking down the problem, scheduling time, and following through, apply to tackling almost any challenge. Choose to overcome setbacks. Devote yourself. Work in an intentional way. And you can realize your wildest dreams. Class of 2025, you are now headed into adulthood with your diploma in hand. You have learned so much. Use your strengths and knowledge, academic or not. Conquer challenges and start becoming the person you want to be. And please be kind to yourself along the way. Whatever has happened or whatever regrets you have, the best time to get back on
track is now. Thank you all for sharing these years with me and impacting my life for the better. Go out and seize the world, and I know we will all accomplish great things. Thank you. [Applause] At this time, it is my pleasure to introduce our superintendent of Academy School District 20, Mrs. Ginger Habberer. Mrs. Habberer, a Colorado native, brings more than 30 years of educational experience and expertise to Academy District 20. She comes from a long family lineage of educators who instilled in her a desire to inspire others to be lifelong learners. After starting her career pathway as a registered nurse, she soon realized that her true passion was being an educator. Ginger has served in many roles from the classroom to administration, including earning national board certification as a science teacher and serving as
a middle and high school principal, an assistant superintendent of student achievement, and a superintendent in the state of Washington. Ginger is proud to be back in her home state of Colorado as the superintendent of Academy District 20, where team one spirit ensures that all students thrive. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Mrs. Ginger Habberer to the podium to share some inspir inspirational words with the graduating class of [Applause] 2025. Well, congratulations class of 2025 Liberty Lancers. Let's give it up for them. [Applause] Today marks the culmination of your hard work, your resilience, and your dedication. You faced late nights, challenging exams, moments of doubt, but you never gave up. This is your moment to reflect on all you've accomplished and take pride in your journey. Our D20 vision for you is that you have the knowledge,
skills, and character necessary to be successful beyond graduation. But none of this would be possible without the support of your family, your friends, your teachers, your coaches, and other mentors. They have been with you every step of the way, and today they share in your success. So, let's take a moment and thank them for their unwavering belief in [Applause] you. Personally, I'm reminded of my the legacy of my own parents, Carl and Jane Johnston. My mother was a kindergarten teacher and my father a high school English and journalism teacher. And together they taught me the importance of communication, curiosity, and being a lifelong learner. And even though they are no longer with me, their influence continues to shape my journey. And I encourage you to hold tight to the lessons from those who have helped
you along the way. So graduates, listen to the wisdom that is shared with you by others. A poem that captures the very essence of values like humility, grace, and living life well is Ruddard Kipling's if. Kipling was a prolific writer who won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1907. He had one son, John Kipling. And we can infer that this poem was written for his son before John left to be a soldier in World War I. And even though this poem was written for his son and somewhat reflects the culture of the times, there are ageless truths embedded within. And I encourage you to listen for what resonates most with you. If by Rickard Kipling. If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you. If you
can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting, too. If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, or being lied about, don't deal in lies. Or being hated, don't give way to hating. And yet, don't look too good nor talk too wise. If you can dream and ma and not make dreams your master. If you can think and not make thoughts your aim. If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two impostors just the same. If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken twisted by naves to make a trap for fools. Four, watch the things you gave your life to broken and stoop and build them up with worn out tools. If you can make a heap of all your winnings and risk
it on one turn of pitch and toss and lose and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss. If you can force your heart and nerve and senue to serve your turn long after they are gone. And so hold on when there is nothing in you except the will which says to them hold on. If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue or walk with kings nor lose the common touch. If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, if all men count with you, but none too much. If you can fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run, then yours is the earth and everything in it. And which is more, you'll be a man, my son. Class of 2025, your future is filled
with endless possibilities. So stay curious, be resilient, and dream big. I am confident that you will shape our world in remarkable ways. And as a D20 grad, we welcome you back to share about your future adventures. So let's give it up again for the class of 2025. [Applause] [Music] Heat. Hey. Hey. Hey. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. 052ready? You ready? What's that? Oh, yeah. At this time, as is tradition, I invite the Liberty staff to depart to the back of the arena to wish you a farewell and to exit through the gauntlet as you receive your diplomas. Staff, please be [Music] [Applause] dismissed. Parents and guests, please remain in the arena until all graduates have departed and I have dismissed you. This helps create uh reduce the bottleneck out in the front. We would also make ask that you exit the entrance that you entered from because the side exit is for students only. Class of 2025, you ready? [Music] The turning of the tassel is a timehonored tradition and is a symbol of success. The tassel is placed on the right to signify that you've earned the right to graduate. Moving the tassel to
the left after graduating is symbolic of crossing over from high school to the next stage of your life. Lancers, at this time, will you please rise? [Music] You nailed it. [Music] Class of 2025, please turn your tassels from right to left to signify your status as graduates. [Applause] Congratulations class of 2025. Please note the junior attendants will please guide the class of 2025 to the exit. They will exit you from your rows. Class of 2025, congratulations. You are dismissed.
