So when we get to that part we can have discussion on that. Is there a motion? I'll show you. >> Mr. Nichol, >> yes. >> Mrs.
002Burns, >> yes. >> Mr. Living, >> yes. >> Mr. Ps, >> yes. >> Item seven is superintendent report. >> All right, we have a lot to celebrate this evening. So, we have two board members who have reached significant milestones in their service to Fairbanks, and we would like to recognize and celebrate them. Lisa Atkins has served on the board for 15 years and Mark Libincott has served for 20 years. Aaron Henchcliffe representing the Ohio School Board's association is here this evening to honor their contributions. Mrs. Atkins is out of town on business and unable to attend, but we'll make sure she gets her honor next meeting. So, Aaron, >> thank you Janelle. There's Lisa's recognition. >> Good evening. So, Memorial Health invited Fairbanks to participate in its community wins contest in celebration of the opening of the Memorial Jerome Jerome Medical Center. And if
005you haven't been there, it's absolutely gorgeous. Schools and organizations from across the area were encouraged to take part. and thanks to strong support and turnout from the Fairbanks community, Fairbanks was awarded $5,000 to benefit our students. So, Abby Collins is here from Memorial Health to present the award this evening. >> Hello. Thank you so much for inviting me. We are elated um to present you this check of $5,000 as a result of your wonderful participation in our community wins contest. anytime we get to partner with Irvings, that's a great day. So, thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> You thanks for being here. >> And again, if you have not seen that facility, it's on Route 42 next to the new Kroger and it's the new Memorial Medical Office building. And you can what?
006ENT to physical therapy to >> urgent care. >> Yeah. Urgent medicine, oncology, neurology, all the things. >> Yeah. So, they've got it all. So, check it out. Thank you. >> Next, we have our state of the schools. So, Fairbanks will release our annual state of the schools video series this week on social media and on our website. The three videos highlight innovative instructional practices. our portrait of a panther initiative which is focused on developing essential professional skills in our students and the progress and execution of our master facilities plan. So be on the lookout on social media and our website for our state of the schools three video series and thanks to uh Richwood Marketing for their support in creating that um piece of work. And lastly, just a construction update to reduce congestion on
007Route 38 during arrival and dismissal. The district desires to build a campus access road that will route through the soccer field on 38, wrap around the stadium, and connect to the staff parking next to the elementary school in the current bus loop. The public notice for bidding was posted in the Mary'sville Journal Tribune on Tuesday, April 14th, and bids will be received until 2 PM local time on May 7th. And immediately after the deadline, the bids will be open and publicly read at our central office at 9681 State Route 38 in Milford Center. For more information, interested parties may visit the Fairbanks local schools website. And then lastly, a big celebration. Um, in 1986, girls softball was established at Fairbanks. And since that time, home games have been played at the Milford Center ball fields,
008creating a positive partnership and experience for our athletes. Tomorrow marks a new chapter for Fairbanks softball. As our players take the field for the first time on the new synthetic turf softball field on the Fairbanks campus, this addition is a key part of our master facilities plan. The community is invited to join us for ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:00 p. The board of education will play an important role in that ribbon cutting and then our board president Derrick Nickel will throw out the first pitch. The game with Northeastern begins at 5:30 and the evening will include a t-shirt giveaway, free popcorn, and $1 hot dogs. So, it promises to be a great night for Fairbanks, for softball, and for our community. So, please join us tomorrow at the softball field located behind the elementary school
009at 5:00 p. Good job. Have you been practicing? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Item A is treasurer report. >> Unless there are any questions. I really don't have much to add. I'm just kind of in a transition period right now. Um should probably by the middle of May start get a good deal how we're going to end the year. But right now everything's on track. So should end the year in good good shape eventually. >> Is there a motion to uh approve part A of treasures report? >> I'll second it. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. L. >> Yes. Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichl. Yes. Item B approves the amendment for the funds for 2526 as presented. Is there a motion to that? >> Second. >> Mr. Lev. >> Yes. >> Mr.
010Phob. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichols. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. And then item C of the treasures report approved the transfer of 832,000 from the general fund to permit approvement. >> Is there a motion for that? >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. L. >> Yes. >> Item nine is consent agenda. And in consent agenda this evening are item 10 the minute minutes. Item 11 athletic contracts. Item 12 is certified contracts. And there are few in both uh the athletic and the certified. Item 13 are fees. So panther calls. Item 14 is during township incentive tax incentive review. Item 15 is a list of several policies. Item 16 is a resignation of three individuals. And then
011item 17 is several trips that will be coming up. And then item B of that is an overnight trip I believe for soccer. Yeah, for soccer this summer. Um item 18 is a transportation item and that is that will be for three individuals. Um that is the end of consent agenda. Is there any discussion on that before we approve it? >> Please stay here. Is there a motion for the consent agenda? I'll second it. >> Mr. Nichol, >> yes. >> Mr. Burns, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Cubs. >> Yes. >> Item 19 is administrative contract for a uh the contract includes Kristen Jones as the elementary principal as presented. Is there a motion? >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second it. >> Mrs. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lico. >> Yes.
012>> Mr. BS. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. Then item B is a contract for Amanda Mark for special education coordinator as presented. Is there a motion for part B? I'll make a motion. >> Second. Mr. Lebound, >> yes. >> Mr. Phelps, >> yes. >> Mr. Nichl, >> yes. >> Mrs. Burns, >> yes. >> Congratulations. Uh item 20 is donations and grants. Um part A of that is a donation for drama club for uh for two families. Is there a motion for the donation as presented? move. >> Second, >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nickel. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Burns? >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Then item B, approve the $12,000 grant from Honda for Fairbanks Robotics. Is there a motion for that? >> Was that something that we applied for
013or is that >> our robotics club applied for that? Yeah, >> that's tremendous. >> Yeah, we should do friends of Fairbanks for these. >> Sure. That's a motion. >> I'll second. >> Mr. Nichl, >> yes. >> Mr. Burns, >> yes. >> Mr. Ling, >> yes. >> Mr. Pops, >> yes. And then item C approves the $5,000 donation from Memorial Health uh for the community wins contest that we just presented. Is there a motion for that donation? >> So move. >> I'll second it. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. L. >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Michael. >> Yes. Then item B, approves a $5,000 grant from the Parker and Hannah Foundation for fifth grade science. A >> motion for that. I'll make a motion. >> Second, >> Mr. L. >> Yes.
014Mr. Ph. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol, >> yes. Barnes, >> yes. >> We sure can. We're going to pause for just a minute and then let the people who want to be dismissed be dismissed. >> It's too pretty outside. You don't have to. So, congratulations Kristen and Lauren. >> Have a nice evening. >> Thank you. You were on the side too. >> Oh, really? They don't get to visit that much, do >> they? Dedication is going to keep going. Item 21 is for voting and gravity as presented. Is there >> I'll make a motion. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. Le. >> Yes. Item 22 is uh contract amendment um building grounds. This would be for a roads. Is there a motion for this
015as well? >> Second. Mr. Nichol, >> yes. >> Mr. Burns, >> yes. Mr. Leard, >> yes. Mr. Phob, >> yes. Item 23 is an MO with as presented. You know, you want to give a little >> Yeah. So, John Thomas is our TLS teacher. He's a TLS employee planted as a satellite teacher in our middle school. And this agreement with tolls is an annual agreement that just says that we will run um at minimum 120 students through his program um in a year. And so then tolls gets funding through career tech because we're meeting the right number of students within that program. So it's just an agreement that they will place him here and they pay for the teacher. He's their employee, but he serves our building. >> Is there a motion? I'll make a
016motion. >> Second, >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lead. >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nickel. >> Yes. >> Item 24 is roofing bid. uh approves 294,000 for the project. This would be for the element to replace the elementary school roofs. Is there a motion? I'll make the motion. >> Will that help? Sorry. Will that be this summer? >> Yes. >> It'll start right after school's out. Correct. >> That's the plan. It's just flat area in the back side of the school. It's not the school pitch on front. >> I I think it's just a flat portion. I think >> Mr. L. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ph. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nicole. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Barnes. >> Yes. And then item B approves the 483,951 um to replace the high
017school roof that I guess hasn't been rep wasn't replaced last year. >> Yeah, there's just sections of the high school. >> Yeah. And that will be done in sequence with the elementary or south. >> Is there a motion for the high school? >> So move. >> Second. >> Mr. Ph. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. I do have one question concern on that. You mentioned that most schools start right after schools out. We've got units going in down there too. Those be installed before or after. Is there a preference? >> They didn't they indicate it wouldn't be a problem. They didn't think it was going to be any kind of an issue. Item 25 is discussion items and the first part of this is potential change
018orders for HBAC. A B is potential change orders for window replacement in the gym and C is change order for the HVAC and the gyms the high school. Yeah. So, the board has two change order items to discuss this evening. The HBAC replacement that will be in both the middle and high school gymnasiums and the window replacement in the high school gym. Uh windows for the high school gym must be ordered by May 4th to ensure delivery in time for summer installation. The plan is to complete the window replacement while the gym is already closed for the HBAC preparation work, resulting in a total shutdown of approximately five weeks for construction this summer with the sixth week being a minor for refinishing. Um preparation work in the middle school gym will require two to three
019weeks of closure. We are working to schedule this in a way that minimizes disruption to summer athletics. Due to extended lead times for HVAC equipment ordering, the district will not receive the units in time for installation this summer. However, ordering now secures current year pricing and there are no concerns with storing the units until installation, which would happen during spring break or summer 2027. uh the HVAC installation once we get the equipment for next spring break or summer to actually install it would take one to two weeks and if we don't approve these together that would mean the gym has to be shut down twice for five weeks >> correct so the windows take about five weeks and so does the prep work for the HBAC so we're timing those together so that we shut
020the gym down for five weeks and not like do it on different time frames to take out four time. >> So it' be if we did the windows and then I mean it's going to be two weeks at some other point. >> Correct. Yeah. So that's why winter's tough because of basketball >> that will happen during >> so spring break or summer 27 would probably be the next opportunity to do that. Wish spring break would I mean if it takes two weeks that really wouldn't be long. We're looking at summer 27 >> if we had. Yeah. Or we could do one gym at spring break and the other one in the summer. So if needed we can do that. But our gym never sleeps. So shutting down a gym is a big ask. >> What
021What is the time frame? What five weeks are they shutting it down? Do they? >> So, I think they want to go, you know, they want to have it open by the third week of July so that we can get in there and do a refinishing on the floor. So, August one the gym is open. So, that is the goal. >> Would we would they do the middle the auxiliary gym and competition gym at the same time? So they would both be shut down at the same time. >> They are working with me on gathering feedback from coaches to know when they have to have gym time so that we shut the middle school gym down like probably around fair week or fourth of July time frames when people aren't asking to be in there
022to shut down the middle school gym. Um so we're trying to work around when people want it and try to keep it open as much as possible. We typically have camps and the gyms in the summer. Correct. We have the basketball June, basketball's June. Um, so we're working with Albert and teachers are right now submitting to me building use requests for summer so I can figure out what we have to work around and then they're going to work the middle school gym around our request. And the hope is to have the HBAC installation in middle school done by the end of July. >> So why haven't they ordered these units yet? Have they given it? >> Yeah, my understanding is there was kind of a hurry up and go to order the equipment and then
023as they looked at it further. They felt that we could not replace the two units that are original to the middle school. They are built into two different walls and they're up high and you can see the vents in the walls where the those units are to break into that masonry, pull out those units and put new ones in and to try to do like a plug and play. I pull it out, I put this in is very expensive to do that. So they redesigned and came up with putting it on top of the roof and adding steel support in there. So some of that additional cost is a steel supports for that unit, additional duct work and running upgraded to meet new regulations, electricity. Um, so I think that perhaps they thought we could
024just do a plug-and-play like we'll just take the systems you already have. We'll just pull those out, put new ones in. But the middle school in particular was not going to be easy to do. So that then they went back and redesigned and then they had to go through cost engineering with Alford and it just took time to get that done. >> So the 480 or 475,000 does that include the units or not? That just includes the work. >> Yes, that's all it is. the units plus the installation plus owner's allowance and contingency is built into that as well and that is all in the change order they build in some owner's allowance contingency cost of the units and the installation additional electricity costs and the steel structural work that they have to do. So,
025we're we would be approving this now, but we there's no guarantee when we would it may be next summer, like the following summer before we even have the units in there. >> Before they're installed, yes, >> just on the high school. Yeah. >> High school and middle school. It is there any advantage of just pausing on this item this year and just distur just having a disruption once instead of two summers. I mean just do it all next summer. >> That's >> then we run the risk of increased costs. >> Well, if we but we've already voted to secure the we've already voted to secure the units, haven't we? I mean, I guess the labor cost they know >> I don't know what the cost increases on on the units would be, but we we
026could secure the units. >> We already voted to do that two months ago. >> Was it March or February? >> February. >> Yeah. I mean, I I guess that's probably where I'm still hung up on. We thought we were voting to ordered. >> I am glad that we did not order equipment that in hindsight was not >> not correct. >> So I am glad that they put on the brakes, dug a little deeper and said either >> I guess my big concern is like disruption two summers in a row versus doing it at once. >> I think a a couple weeks in the summer and 27 not a huge deal. And if we could alternate it, like we do the middle school, you know, and then we do the high school, we're not shutting both
027gyms at one time, I think we'll be okay. Um, >> I don't feel a huge concern about that. >> I would be a little concerned. I guess one of the my concerns would be, you know, as we've kind of cost budgeted this thing through and listened to it has definitely been higher than what the original budget was. >> Correct. >> Um I just wonder if some of that is just because of the the amount of the amount of work that they already have committed to do in the middle school, whether that's whether we're trying to >> schedule too much at once. So, I guess for my opinion, we don't know if we're even going to have them in until next summer anyhow. Would there be an advantage to breaking it up in case like it
028goes over timeline wise? Right. So, we have five week shutdown this summer. They're saying one to two weeks next summer. What if it takes three? That would be eight weeks altogether. How bad would that two full months? That would not be great. Yeah. And I think like that both next years potentially, and I don't know how the board feels on this, but this is hanging out there, but we would like to do more to our high school gym next summer. Um, so that is a goal or something that was talked about in the past of actually repainting, refinishing the gym floor. Um, you know, that could potentially happen maybe next summer if we just had a shorter window of having to do an install. Is this summer just a the standard waxing? Is that a
029schedule? >> Yeah, we're going to fit it in like they need to get their work done and then we're going to fit that in right before August 1st. So these are discussion items, but we are we to vote on these denominators. I think that the timeliness of the windows is the big push because in order to get the windows in time for that fiveweek window and get that installation done so we can finish the floor and open for the fall season is we need to order the windows May 4th. So this is the board meeting leading up to that date. What did you have to February to purchase what three >> I think it was about $285,000 if I remember correctly purchase of the unit. It was just the equipment. >> Yeah. >> Yes. >>
030Is the 474 on top of that? >> No. >> Built into it. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, our original estimate was given to us where we we added the scope of work was $330,000 and they said if you hurry out like we can move and just buy get the units and they thought it would really be plug and play. We pull these out. We plugged in um that we could go ahead and order them and get them in here and try to get it installed this summer and then they pump the brakes and said that's not going to work for middle school. Um, so that's how we got the cost increase and the delay in ordering and we were pushing it honestly. We had ordered in February. There was not a guarantee we would have
031them in time for summer install. >> How old is that middle school unit >> is original to the building and the middle school edition within days? >> Is that right? And it's it can be feast or famine in the in the middle school gym. >> The high school units have been replaced. I think they're >> more like 08. >> Yeah. And with the high school units, I asked them to go up and do an assessment of them. One of the units is working, the other one is not working. So, we are running on one. >> How long's it been like that you say? I don't know. It was really Bill and Dave who kind of gave me that history too of how it >> I guess I I was unaware of that. >> And they
032said the windows in the gym's a five week replacement. >> There's an asbestous removal that they need to do. So they have to do all the abatement piece windows in If we did not do any of this work this this summer, then the gym would be open for everything. But the one week of it would not be utilized for any construction purposes this summer at all. >> What I would I could use the middle school gym for storage for the middle school uh classroom boxes and furniture. Um I don't have to. I could still put it in high school classrooms, but we really like to wax the high school classrooms and not use them for storage. So, if we do use the front hallway high school classrooms for storage because we're leaving the middle school
033gym open, it just depends on how quickly they finish up their work and we can move middle school boxes and furniture back into middle school classrooms and leave time for custodians to wax the front hallway. So, the original plan was to store furniture in the middle school gym in twothirds of it while they worked on the replacement. Um, so if we did nothing, um, I would want to look at the requests for use for gyms this summer and maybe use the middle school gym for storage to leave classrooms open so that we could get in there and wax those floors because they need it. And I can't guarantee if I use those classrooms for storage that I'm going to be able to move them back out of there at the end of July and have
034time to wax them. But we would make that sacrifice if we chose to do the HBAC prep work in both gyms. We would make that sacrifice in store furniture in the prop high school classrooms. >> How much overlapping labor? They say how much overlapping labor or is this a separate crew that takes care of the HBAC? >> They have not told me how they're splitting that out. I would think they would have to bring in overlapping room because they're going to be painting all the and installing all the middle school classroom equipment and piping and all that. What I'm hearing them say is they can do this. Um, that link is in the board update. So, let me pull that >> emotion. What the >> What's that? >> I'm guessing probably about a 5050. I
035guess Mike concern is is the duration of the shutdown over two summers. >> I guess that bothers me a little bit. >> It sounds like they could do it in five weeks complete. >> We were basically locked out the high school gym all last summer. >> Yeah, this is going to be three almost three summers in a row. Are the windows creating any issues at all currently? to my knowledge. So, when I look at the description on the change order, um I see owner's allowance for the high school gym stage protection 3,000. Owner's allowance middle school gym floor protection 5,000. Owner's allowance high school gym area final clean,000. And same for the middle school. Middle school gym brick rework $12,287. Structural steel subcontract 35,000 roof patch 15,000 HVAC subcontract 311,352 electrical $53,940 construction contingency $20,000
036bond $3,600 commercial activities tax $1,121 1 fee profit $8,625 and general insurance $3,661. So there is a owner's contingency in there of $20,000 and an owner's allowance of 89 $10,000. We're going to have to this year next year one way or the other three years chances are 5050 every time I know I'm just disappointed that we've been working toward this for >> quite a while and we're still not getting any guarantees on when it's going to get done >> on a on a project that should have been taken care of last. Yeah, last year in my >> but in my favor. >> I don't I guess I I'm discouraged that we're down to we have to make a decision on the on this >> Yeah. >> today for ordering purposes and we to have to
037maybe have the windows in in time to install them this summer. >> February, it sounds like. So in my >> decision last >> Yeah. We at that point in time we thought this was going to get us completed in one in one summer. >> How was last summer when it was shut down? >> How was last summer? >> How did that go? >> Not very well. >> No, >> it was closed all the way up until basically official practice. And there's a lot of open gyms in there in the summer. There's >> I get there's lot >> I don't think I can support this today. I'd rather do it in one summer myself. That's what I'm not my only apprehension is is that what the cost could be next year. I think majority of the
038cost is the equipment that we've already approved of motion to purchase it. >> Air handlers. >> So, I mean, I guess that's the thing. I'd assume get the air handlers purchased and then do do it all in one summer. That's where I'd rather be. The duration of two summers again is that I just I have issues with that. I have issues trusting they're going to get it done in seven weeks in one summer. That scares me. >> Yeah. Well, it should be. >> Won't they get it done in five weeks? >> Five weeks shut down. Isn't two weeks? >> Two weeks installation. >> So, is it seven total or five total? >> I think it could be seven total because they have to do all the prep work for it. Then they have to install
039it. >> That's right. That's right. And the windows are going on at the same time. >> That's the goal. I guess I'd like some more clarification on that as well. It's five weeks total >> or seven weeks total. >> Is this a situation that we could do the gym improvements this summer and then the windows and HVAC next summer? >> When you say gym improvements, >> you said they're going to refinish the floor. >> Oh, I hear what you're saying. Um the refinishing that they're doing is not fancy. Like it's like an annual >> It's the standard wax. >> Yes. It's not like totally take paint off to repaint and then finish. >> That's just the norm. >> That would be a long >> That's just the normal annual. >> Correct. >> That did not
040get done last year. >> Correct. What we don't want to do is invest in anything in the floor really and then do much work on it. The annual Yes. But we don't want to like really invest in that floor and then have equipment in there and keep it in there. >> Does anybody know what's still sitting up? There's a couple smaller units, but I I don't know if they're for the middle school. >> I don't know what's in those. That's tough sometimes. But the competition, Jim, that's more of a replacement, isn't it? >> It is, but they still need the five weeks between the windows and the whatever they're doing in there. There's electrical work. I know that is upgrading to the regulations that we have now that they're working on. So, I'm just told
041five weeks high school gym, three weeks or so, middle school gym. >> Any other discussion? Do we need clarification? More clarification from them >> and if you needed more clarification like what specifically do you need? I have a hard time believing they can't replace it in five weeks. Maybe the maybe the middle school, but since they're not really doing like structural stuff. >> Well, if you do the windows, I know that's a guaranteed five weeks. So, I think they're just saying we'll be in your gym for five weeks. If you do the windows and that's we're in there for five weeks. I guess my concern is like I can see the windows and the comp and I guess I'm thinking the high school or competition gym the windows in that gym taking like a fiveweek
042process to remove those units do the electric upgrade. I don't understand why that would take any longer because there's not a lot of structural >> and I don't know if they're also kind of giving them some room to like fit the HBAC like it's going to be shut down for five weeks because of the windows and we're going to fit the HBAC in that fiveweek time frame. So, I don't know that the HBAC itself, the high school is going to take a full five weeks, but I think they're like, "We're in there for five weeks because of the windows, if you're doing the windows, and they're scheduling that during that five weeks." Because what I said, what I don't want to see happen is you shut it down for five weeks and then you come
043back and shut it down for two or three more. It has to happen at the same time, >> right? >> So, I think that's the promise. Um, so I think that is the thinking behind the five. I'm thinking that if you want clarification and then you decided you want to move forward with the gym replacement, windows replacement, um we would need to have a special meeting next week to to vote on the change order for the windows if that's what we decide to do. But if there's more information I need to get so we can come back next week and have a special meeting to vote on that if that's the will of the board, then I just need to know specifically what I need to ask. I feel more comfortable with going with a
04427 replacement on these two brothers. >> That's focusing on the middle school. >> Yeah. making sure we get that right. That's my opinion. >> That's kind of where I'm at. I'm at a one summer shutdown. I just feel like this be the third summer in a row or there would be three summers in a row. And I feel like we're rushing it again. I wish we had a little bit more time to make sure this is right. Are there other alternatives besides summer? Like if we do spring break, kids are gone for that whole week. That next week, how bad would that affect? >> I don't think it would affect us too bad unless we need to do like some softball, baseball practice in there. Baseball typically is in our elementary. >> Baseball, softball typically
045in the elementary. >> Yeah. So, I think it could affect our gym classes, but I don't I don't see if we took spring break unless you feel differently and then we took a week after spring break, they ended up they needed two weeks in there to install in the high school especially. We could survive that. We won't have basketball volleyball going on that time. I'm prefer to wait till 27 to move forward. That's >> and do it all in one Sunday. >> I would prefer to wait till 27 to do all these in one. >> The units sitting back there are for those what I was just doing. I just I feel like we've been rushed kind of this whole it's been very choppy. This HVAC has been extremely choppy. Not necessarily the windows, but
046the windows are cared. So Any other discussion on it? >> Well, what what is it that you want to see and make decisions? >> I hope they hope they order it now. >> I hope so, too. >> We approved it back. >> What's that? >> You want to go ahead and buy the equipment now? >> It should have been bought by now. >> What about the windows? What's that? >> But it hasn't. >> I know. But that I mean really the unfortunate part that's not our fault. That's on somebody. We we already approved for them to buy it. Unfortunately, they didn't because there was some mismeasurements. But yes, I would prefer secure it and perform the work in 27 and the windows. I mean, I guess they really secured the window stuff or what's your
047thoughts? Now I'm open. If you go ahead and buy this summer, it's going to be the same installation period either this summer or next summer. >> Yeah. I'm just going to get it done. >> Oh, I Yeah, I just think they said it was like an 18week leave period for >> Yeah, that's the case that we have here anyway. 18 weeks to get it. We're out of work. >> It's next summer. >> Yeah. >> That's that's why we voted back in February to get it for this summer. >> Yeah. >> 18 weeks ago. >> Yeah. >> Well, and one consideration too is that age and our units, right? The the middle school one is a original and the high school we're really operating on one and that space is used. The problem is we wouldn't
048get them anyhow. >> If we had to do a quick turn around and install it, we lost them. We would we would be able like if we had to reschedu some games or something, we they were sitting on site or with harbor, we could call them in. I don't know what the likelihood is that we would lose those units, but our gym is where we receive a whole lot of people during cold months. So, um, that is a consideration that I at least have thought of. >> So, we don't need the units right now. So, let's say we decide to do all the prep work this summer, order the units. Let's say they get in by spring break. I'm a proponent to prep everything this summer and avoid next summer alto together. If we can
049do the two weeks at spring break to avoid another shutdown, I'm seeing the history of like how deadlines are missed constantly and your checklist of what you just had to go through. I don't want a chance next summer being shut down and it's not done by August 1. Then what do we do? Will we be in a worse position then? I think that would be one thing that it would be a very specific project just not not including the middle school would already be completed. So I mean it would be a pretty specific project in the gym in the two gymnasiums instead of an entire HVAC Renault in the middle school plus two gymnasiums. I guess is how I would look at it. Be more of a focused project in the fall in the summer
050of 27 versus trying to squeeze it into the summer of 26. check on too is if we look into we don't have to shut down the whole system. >> I'm not vibing that as being a reality. I feel like they're still independent of the whole system unless >> I think they are too at least that's the way they're working now. >> Yeah. whe everybody what's everybody's schedule next week we have a special meeting this >> I'm wide open >> it's good to No, >> except for baseball games every night. Whatever else, >> can we gather a little bit more information on the HBAC? Did you get enough? Do you have your enough questions to ask? >> I may reach out to each of you and say give me your specific questions to make sure I
051capture them exactly so when I talk to them, I know I have it all. So, that would be the 27th then for a potential special meeting. >> Then we're meeting on the 7th of May. >> We had the 11th held >> the 11th. >> We do not have to do that. >> Would that be too late? >> Yes. For windows if windows are up in the air. Something >> I would check to see if that's actually I can't So we did it onward. >> Yeah. So Aaron makes a good point like you could allocate the money tonight to do this, but that doesn't mean we have to move forward with >> Oh, that might be the best option. I'd be I'd be in favor of doing that. somebody else's thought. >> So, we approve the
052amount. >> Does that cause any headaches or pain down the end if you don't forward this year? >> Yeah. approve the project, but that doesn't necessarily be with questions. >> So really, until the change order is signed, submitted. >> Yeah, >> we've not committed. >> What do you think? >> I think I've said what I want to say. I think we better gather some more information before we do that. Unless everybody else has something. >> Okay. >> All right. I will reach out and just like really understand your question and go back and get answers and then respond to the board. Um okay item B with that pass just I think somebody typically nominated for it at some point for the certain fair. Yeah, >> usually somebody reviews the scholarship applications. >> Who's interested in
053reviewing scholarship applications? >> Can I do it? >> You want to do it for Kelly? >> Sure. >> It is pretty. It is kind of >> It is There there's some pretty neat pretty neat perspectives on scholarship applications. >> All right. And we'll talk about guess we figure out who >> who are fair. Okay. >> Item 26 is committee reports. And this is not sure. Did Angie send us a >> packet? Do you want me to provide it? >> Sure. >> Okay. >> Um tolls facility addition update. Work continues on our 50,000 square foot addition which will increase space for our welding construction and pre- N nursing labs. These new spaces will open in January 2027. One unique as aspect of this project is the multiple toll students and our construction technologies program who have
054been hired by on-site contractors. This relationship allows students to gain real world construction experience and tools is very appreciative of the relationship they have with their construction partners. for enrollment. As of April 6th, there is a 1,100 there are 1,142 students and they attach their enrollment uh snapshot which is broken down by their career technical programs if you want to dig into that for their adult education training opportunities for class of 2026 graduates. As the class of 2026 moves closer to graduation, many students are still considering their next step. For those exploring options after high school, Tol's Career and Technical Center offers nationally accredited adult education programs in several high demand career fields. These programs provide students with a practical pathway into the workforce and in many cases, financial assistance is available to help reduce
055or even fully cover tuition costs. So, one strong opportunity is their firefighting EMT program. Um, registration will open soon for fall 2026 classes and students with a documented financial need may be eligible for assistance. Kohl's also offers advanced manufacturing multicraft technician program. This 380 hour program is completed over the course of one year and prepares students for careers with respected local employers such as Warthingington Enterprises, Scots Miracle Grow, and Hikima Pharmaceuticals. And the next cohort begins in July. And then in addition, Tols is offering a four-week training program in July through a partnership with Amazon Web Services. This opportunity is designed for students interested in building skills in electrical HBAC and technology related fields. There's also the Tuls board dinner. So, Kelly, Mark, and I will go to the board dinner. Oh, I just lost
056it. On Thursday, I'm sorry, on Wednesday. Um, and we'll learn about their programs, meet their students, and have dinner together. >> And That you pretty much it. >> Thank you. >> Legislative report. >> Just a couple things. Uh I think a lot of the talk of course is around property tax elimination. So there's a new coalition that launched um the Ohioans to protect public services. Um it's a coordinated educational effort to ensure Ohioans have accurate information about the real world impacts of eliminating property taxes. The coalition brings together trade associations representing public schools and local governments, businesses, nonprofits, other entities all around the shared commitment to protect the essential public services Ohioans rely on every day. Uh OSBA has actually been involved uh since the coalition formed. So, uh, the other kind of big thing,
057uh, Governor DeWine formally launched the Ohio Attendance Dashboard. Um, this is a public tool that's designed to help provide fast, transparent, and easy to use attendance data to help schools, families, and communities reduce chronic absenteeism. Have you had experience in that? I haven't, but it sounds like parents, anybody could go in and drill down to your district, your school, and see what their intended rates are. >> I've tried to have experience with chronic absenteeism, but never really worked out. >> And those are the two biggest things for the legislative report. >> Sweet. >> Student achievement. >> Okay. Uh all three of the reports are in your folders. It's kind of what you expect from the principles of board. It's end of year activity. It's testing. It's senior activity. It's those things. I asked each other
058to send me some student achievement, not necessarily scholarship. And that sort of thing might have gone on. And I got three of them that kind of popped out. First one is at the high school. Sarah Lynch is the Union County 2026 Franklin D. Walter Scholastic Achievement. So there's only one winner per county and it's based on your academic achievements, personal accomplishments, and commitment to community service. So she's already been on I believe she's got >> last year. >> Yeah. The second one is we we got one student was kind of taken after that a little bit. I guess he knows how to talk. So Phelps has been participating in and I got to find out exactly what >> the big E. >> Let's go to the Big E, but the >> advanced speech in the
059advanced prepared public speech. >> So I hope I can read my notes and follow through this. He had to write a six to eight minute speech and memorize it. He gave it to the in the subdist level and he placed first subdist level. So he then competed the district level and he placed first at the district level. Uh that put him as one of the top 20 in the state on March 7th. He presented again and he was selected top two in the room 10 presenters. that gets him in a spot in the finals with three other students. He was second. So, as a second place finisher, he goes to the Big E, which is a livestock show up in the Northeast New Hampshire, >> Springfield, Massachusetts. So, he'll be presenting there next September. That's
060for the National. Then we also Rachel Jones has been participating in auto. We had a recent group that went came back. I think there were six to seven veterans that went on this thing. We've had some kids who ask those types of things. But Rachel has her students write letters to veterans and it's not they don't get names of veterans or anything. They just write a specific kind of a general letter. Joseph Stanley wrote the letter that ended up the veteran and this particular guy talked about how much letters meant to them when they were acting. He said one of the worst feelings you could ever have was alcohol and he didn't get a letter else. So he sent a nice letter back. It was a submarine. He sent a picture of the sub that
061he started going back with. Also, they sent a pair of dolphin wings. I've never heard of dolphin wings, but I Googled it today. It's an actual war that the submarine is replacing flyers wings. So, >> yeah, it is. And it kind of shows what our kids are doing with authentic above and beyond what you might get out. >> Yeah. and check and stuff. >> Yeah. >> So, I want to go those three things tonight. The rest of the stuff you can look up. There's a lot of good information in there about school activities, that type of stuff, DC trips coming up. So, you're just getting ready for all that sort of >> full speed ahead now, right? >> Yeah. It's speed ahead next month after that. Thanks, Mark. Building and grow. I >> think we've
062covered a lot of the buildings. Um, if you guys haven't had a chance to go back there and look at the softball field, it is it is tremendous. I know I've just talked to some people in the community and that that went back there and looked at it. Yeah, >> it's a it's definitely going to be a sense of pride for >> Yeah. for Fairbanks athletics and for the softball team for many years to come. So, and I guess I didn't really realize like 86. So, it's kind of that's amazing that >> that been a year or two >> been a year or two over there in Milford, that's for sure. Um, other than that, you want to >> touch base on this at all or >> Yeah, we um that probably not today. that's
063just your information basically. Um we also are working to make an offer to the director of facilities and maintenance. So, we are working on that piece. And then also, um, today approved Aiden Groves to be our buildings and grounds technician, which is pretty exciting. That, um, we'll have a focus on our outdoor and athletic spaces, but then also him learning to do some preventative maintenance and regular maintenance in our buildings as well during the cooler month. And then also, we did purchase a real mower, as you know, for the care of our state in the field. And Mark got to give its inaugural run. Um Mark, how is that real? >> Miller as good a ship as it broke to us. Actually put a little trailer, not just drove it up. Got here last Tuesday.
064Looking good. It was set for one inch. We've been cutting it in quarters. So we want to raise that back up. do it with the mower. We finished trails and stuff. I do have a question for you. This thing went only had 328 hours on it in 2017. I said, "How why so few hours?" This belonged to a high school in Texas. It had turf every athletic field except for baseball outfield. >> Oh, that that's all they knew. >> All it's ever one baseball. Wow. >> Those are fine. >> But it's probably a bigger outfield in Texas. It was probably a big out. We do. >> So is advertised. I don't know if you remember, but you know, we got >> Yeah. So, there's been some questions as to who's going to do maintenance on
065the mower and so forth. I feel very strongly we want Andy doing that eventually and has said yes, I'll be glad to do it. I just real out here. Had some irrigation issues. So, there's been a little conflict between the two of them. We had to get that resolved. that got fixed. I told the maintenance as Kyle adjusting these reels up instead was here. So they spent probably two hours two hours together just for cutting. They're back in the quarter. So good to go. >> I do think we probably need to have like a building and grounds meeting sometime, whatever. >> We did that. Do we want to do that in May or do we want to do that in June? probably as soon as probably maybe talk with Mr. boost it. I guess >>
066some of that would probably be part of the part of the project. Okay, everybody good? Well, there is no reason for executive session this evening. That brings us to a journal. So >> second, >> Mr. Nichl. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Good job, Mr. Carter. >> Everybody there? Fantastic. Pleasure.
