meeting order. Roll call, please. Mr. >> Here, Mr. Burns >> Here, Mr. >> Here. Uh join me for a moment of silence followed by the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands under God indivisible. Item five is public participation and I don't believe there is any this evening. Um item six is approval of the agenda. Is there a motion? >> Second. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Atkins. >> Yes. Mr. Lingham. >> Yes. Item seven is super report. >> All right. Well, you know, I love authentic learning and students being on a mission and being passionate about what they're learning. And this learning is transformational. It's when students are applying content that they would be learning anyway,
but they do it in the context of a real world problem. And in this project in particular, it really ignited the heart. Mrs. Jones sixth grade ELA classes had a very special experience with a very special friend and they're here to talk to you about it um and just really pay close attention to how these students took content that they would have learned anyway and tied it to a real world experience and I would guess they're not going to forget this. So Mrs. Jones and student thanks for letting us come tonight. Um, I have Rex Bower, Ethan Arnold, and Chloe Larson with me tonight. And they have a project that they're going to share that's in here, but I brought them to come help us um, explain the project. So, up on the screen, you'll
see it. If you'd like to see it more in depth, I'm not going to go through everything. I can share it with all of you. Just let me know later. Um, first, I want to say thanks to everybody. First off, to Mrs. Goens. We had this kind of idea last year to take it a step further from what we've done in the past. And then, Mrs. Chapman contacted you guys and we kind of got it cleared through you and I actually knew I was going to get to do it by Mr. Lipincot over there one day when he said, "Oh, so where's the dog?" And I'm like, "We get to do it." So, um, that was really cool. Um, my husband also and, um, K9 Collective. Um, we took our mission statement and tried to,
you know, connect with the past the service project we excuse me, our community service project we've done in the past two years. Um we wanted to get them passionate and engaged in their learning for the passion in the present and preparing for the future finding our um community needs being civically minded and preparing them for future ideas. Um here why was this learning project important? So voice go ahead. Can you see it from there or do you want to look at my screen? I'm usually not around I'm usually not around dogs and being able to help make I got to teach so many people about what we are doing and what they might do. >> I've imagined what it's like if I didn't have a family or home and have stay at a weird place.
I don't know. due to knowing how dogs may feel. It made me feel such better knowing I'm helping out in >> and these were just some of the student voices and that was one thing talking with Dr. Kristen Bordage. She she's like you you want them to get their voice out there and know why this is important. So this was a question we asked how many times during this project? >> A lot. Why is this important? Um we focused on writing standards and research standards. Um, we looked at task and audience. So, the kids could choose an audience from prek up through um, our community out in the public and adults. These guys chose a project for seventh and eighth grade um, to present to them. We also brought in our social emotional, our speaking
and listening and um, made sure that, you know, they saw those standards were important too. Um, scout here he is. This is one of his first day. This was his first day there. Um and then the second day we had a snow day and they were devastated and we didn't have a name for the dog for three days. So it was really bad, but they fell in love with him. Um they had project ideas. They wrote down things that they wanted to do and then can one of you tell how we grouped up for that? >> Um so we got a like note and like wrote what we think is like most important and um and then we like combined our So, they weren't necessarily picking to work with their friends. They were looking for
like-minded ideas. And um it worked out really well because these guys did an awesome job together. I don't know if you guys would be in the same groups all the time, right? Because like you wouldn't pick normally to work with each other, right? All right. Just talking about this a couple slides here. High school student Amelia Nickel and middle school student Alex Ford both came and shared their family experience with faster and this was an authentic >> authentic way to correct connect students in our building who are already making a difference like sixth grade. And it was really cool to have these high school girls come down because they've done this for years with their family and they could tell them what it was like and why it was important to them. >> Oh. Um
we had um more high schoolers and come down and um was like the first week he was there and she like taught us and him how to like do tricks and like he will sit lay down. These were just some of the things they did. They of course love taking him taking him out. Um even um they would walk him down. They would take him to different classrooms just to get him social. You can see that the kids loved him. They all brought him so many different things. I mean it was constant. He didn't know what to do. Um we also brought in an author. This was a community connection with Aaron Stats who's a um parent in the district. This friend of hers recently published a book and the book had just come out
a few weeks before we got scout. So, she was willing to come in and talk to the kids about this and she donates um all of her profits to an organization. So, we were able to raise um almost $600 for K9 Collective through um the kids in here and at the elementary purchasing books for from her. These are just some of the projects that the kids did. Um, one group chose the Ohio Wildlife Center because Dr. Bordaj and I decided that we wanted to let the kids kind of go with their interest. Um, we were raising awareness for them. This group actually created these large posters and they are currently hanging in the middle school and high school and we had a group go over to the kindergarten class and talk and they created a
presentation, read a book. They also created the flyers that you see down there to reach out not only to the little kids but this was for the adults and that again was our why. We wanted to get it where guys we want to everywhere. We wanted to get it outside. We had people create cards. Um the cards were then donated to um K9 Collective and the Union County Humane Society for them to sell um or raise profits however they want. Um, this flyer actually was created by a group of boys and was used at K9 Collective events and they didn't realize that the kids had made it and so they were like, "Oh, that was really impressive." So, but they they wanted to get older dogs adopted. Um, I get yours yet. And then this
is what these guys did. So, they're going to tell you what they did. Um so basically our um project was about like getting like volunteer awareness around because it there was 80% of scent of shelters didn't have like they were short staff and volunteers like make up for that and we wanted to spread that out to also help dogs. >> You want to tell them what you guess it? What did you create? Uh, we created um a little paper to pass out when we went to seventh and eighth grade stuff >> and our slide stuff so we can show them. And then we passed out uh these little flyers. It's basically a flyer about how to get onto the the website and have them either donate or look at fostering dogs or adopting them. And
you have to be at least 18 or older to foster your own dog. 16 and 17 to with a parent signature to walk. And then anybody that has to have their adult. >> We had other things. Um you think you can tell them what this group did? >> Oh um so they started this can drive and um the reward is like for they there was these boxes for sixth seventh and eighth grade and whoever donated like the most cans like got like an extra set. So um >> we donated how much did we donate? remember about a cat full >> a truckload full and when he and I collected received them they were like we get so much money just from simple things like that. Um kids going to the elementary again we had several
things over there um preschool we reached out to them. We had a group that wanted to do um a raffle to raise money for cleaning supplies. So, they created a basket, they created the flyers, they created something that we said on the announcements, and then they raised over $130. Um, we had a blanket drive. This group wanted to connect with the elementary school, so they ra they made a little infomercial and the flyer and then they they um emailed and talked with Mrs. Thompson. They got it set up over there for um the kids and they collected over this says 60, but then we had a lot more come in later. And we were also able to take those and we blessed Mrs. Owen's daughters with her rescue with a couple bags of blankets, too.
>> Back back seat of my truck is full. Thank you very much. >> We had another group in another class that wanted to do the Ohio Wildlife Center, too. And this group tried really hard. Their goal was $200. Um they raised 25. Um a Fairbanks parent um matched it and they're donating 50 to the Ohio Wildlife Center. And another group that made cards um school enthusiasm. We've only got a couple slides left. >> Oh. Um, >> every like changing like when you had the dog at school like it changed like the mood and everything and everyone like was just so excited and like between periods everyone would want to come to him to like see Scout pet him and then everyone was just excited to be around him and like do simple stuff for And
like this photo you'll see, he went to the band concert. Um he visited the life skills lab almost daily. He went, Mrs. Thompson called over one day. Do you have the dog there today? The police or the sheriff was supposed to be here with their dog and they had to leave for an emergency. And I'm like, "Yep." I grabbed two kids whose birthday it was. We went over to kindergarten. They saved the day. Scout saved the day. You have a group, two girls on the right. They were they wanted to know if they could use film use scout in a video. they were filming for public speaking class. Um, and so just little things like that. Um, we then summed it all up with our um, third annual canon collection service project day. What this
is the third time we've done it in sixth grade. And can you tell them what we made? What did we do on that day? >> We made blankets, treats, and um, toys out of fabric. And we had separate classes do different things. So we had three different classes. My class we were making the toys and everybody got partnered up with two people. After we finished off the toys we started making and then we donate all of those things um to Can Collective as well. And then finally this was the family that adopted. Um Brady is a sixth grade student and he was the lucky one um whose parents wanted a dog and come to find out he they also adopted another dog right after because they felt that Scout needed another friend. So they have
two and then um Scout's doing really well of course you know acting like a puppy now um chewing some things up he shouldn't chew up but they've had a really good um time with him. So kind of to tell you what we've done we kind of we gave back. We we reached out to elementary middle school lessons in the classroom. That was our audience. Um that was our standard that we were focusing on that the kids picked out. Reading cast off K9 to all the classes in the elementary. We brought the author in for free author visit. Um we sold books. We made cards. We collected over 100 blankets. A truckload of cans. $50 for the Ohio Wildlife Center. Another 130 for a canine collected. So, this project I think met our goals. Um, parents,
just words of encouragement. I can share this separately, but it was just a matter of what he did and what he brought. The enthusiasm. I like what Mrs. um Chapman said. The kids aren't going to forget it. Um, it's something pretty cool, wasn't it? I mean, how many people can say they got to have a dog in their classroom for a month? Um, not a lot. Yeah. So, we just wanted to say thank you and share with you. And then this was the article that was in the newspaper. We put it on here, too. So, um, thank you. The kids have something for everybody that's here tonight. So, if you guys can pass those out, you want to hear one of those papers. >> And thank you. >> Thank you. Thank you. There you go.
So, when we think about authentic learning, Mrs. Jones, did they ever ask you how many points their assignments were worth? Do >> you guys ever ask me how many points? >> No. >> Or what your grade is going to be? >> I will say the best days as a teacher are when you assign something and the kids are so excited and you just ignited their heart and their passion about something that they don't ask you, how many points is this worth? And I think that's when you know you move from transa transactional teaching where like I do my thing up here and you do the worksheet you give it back to me and I give you a grade and we just had a transaction to something that's transformational where kids are so invested in the
learning that they forget that they're learning and um the classroom is just one of joy you know joyful >> you walk down the hall and it's not highness's joke go and you go into the pepper went out, you know, it just he and even a high school student, you know, everybody connected and it was just a really cool thing. So, thank you. Thank you. Thank you for letting us >> and Mrs. Jones stepped out like it is easy. It is I'm not going to say it's easy. It is it is safe as a teacher. I've been there to I stood at the class front of the classroom and I taught therefore you learned, right? Not always, you know, but that's easy. I have my curriculum. I teach it. I do teachers, you do students, we
do a transaction. By Rachel stepping out and doing this, she took a huge risk because you saw how many projects were happening at one time. And I think she had a moment of how do you all the students are chasing their individual interests, but they're all focused on the same content standards, but how as a teacher do I ensure they're learning? They're getting those outcomes that we intend. and steering them and helping them, you know, do the learning but also finish their project. So, >> it was a little crazy and I did have that moment when I emailed her and Dr. Bordage and I was like, am I doing and they said it's supposed to be >> you're doing it right. >> So, >> that's right. When you follow the interest of the students, it
can get a little messy, but um hats off to you. That was a huge risk and and you did great >> responsibility. She took on an extra >> but it's something I think that we both agree that we'd like to >> she said it in the newspaper. >> Well, thank you all. Thank you parents for coming. >> Thank you. >> Good job guys. >> Good job. So for number two for my superintendence report is about our calendar for next year. And the calendar for next year builds in an extra professional development day. The reason we're able to do the kind of learning that we're doing and transform teaching and learning at Fairbanks into having a more real world um influence is because we have invested in professional development. So Dr. Bordage is an authentic learning
coach and she comes in and and is there in the classroom coaching teachers helping them design lessons and we would like to continue this work also focusing on literacy across the curriculum and math improvement as well. So, by adding a professional development day, which will be January 4th, 2027, it's the first day back from winter break, that gives us another touch point with teachers to really again have that focus on instructional um techniques that really, you know, are solid and embrace authentic learning, but also just good core teaching. Um, this will give us a day before the school year starts for PD, the November election day for PD, and then January, the first day back winter break for PD, so we can kind of get some momentum and cohesion throughout the year to keep returning
to what is our why and working on developing something and moving it forward. Right now, it's just having one day at the beginning of the year. It's really a half a day for PD at the beginning of the year and one November day and that being it for professional development. It is very hard to have a vision and drive a vision for teaching and learning and to put all those portrait of the camper skills into our lessons, deliver good content, make it real world. It's very hard to create a culture of teaching and learning without time with teachers. So this is adding one PD day. It is the subtraction of one student day. Students will not be present and accounted present that day. We are far over our hours required by the state. we're in
no jeopardy of running out of hours for the year unless something catastrophic happens. Um so that you will see that on the calendar that that first day back from winter break becomes a staff discussion about day. Okay. And then I just have some good news. So starting with winter athletics, I just wanted to give you a little wrapup of what's been happening. So, the winter season has brought continued athletic success to Fairbanks. The varsity boys basketball team capped off an impressive regular season as the Ohio Heritage Conference champions, finishing with a 20-2 record. The Panthers earned the number six seed in the Central District tournament and will host number seven seed Mount Gilead on Saturday, this Saturday, February 28th at 4 PM. The varsity girls basketball team also claimed the Ohio Heritage Conference Championship, finishing
their regular season at 17 and5. They advanced in the Ohio High School Athletic Association tournament this past weekend with a thrilling first round victory over Fredericktown, highlighted by halfcourt buzzer beater from freshman Audrey Longers. And like I said, they played Tuesday um at Madison Plains. In bowling, the boys team finished fifth in the Ohio Heritage Conference, while the girls team secured a strong third place. The boys wrestling program made up entirely of freshmen showed steady growth and competitiveness throughout the season and they will compete in the sectional tournament at Richdale on Saturday, February 28th, beginning at 10 a.m. The girls wrestling team brought veteran leadership this season with an all senior roster. Senior Hannah Kne House celebrated her 100th career victory last Saturday at the OC meet held at Northeastern. And our girls team will
compete in the sectional tournament on Sunday, March 1st at Jonathan Alder with wrestling beginning at 11:00 a.m. The gymnastics team composed of four will compete in the central district meet at Warington Cobborn High School on Saturday, February 28th at 9:15 a.m. And we are very hopeful that our student athletes will continue to perform strongly in postseason competition. But regardless of the outcome, this has been a wonderful season marked by individual and team growth. We're very proud of our winter athletes and it's gone kind of fast. Can't believe we're here already. And then our robotics team, team 91775A, um this team composed of Henry Hooper, Brian Van Dykes, Zachary McDonald, and Luke McCain have qualified for state championship competition. So that will be March 6th and 7th. Good things are happen. >> All right. Thank you
for all the updates. >> Uh item eight is the treasures report. >> Um I did want to give a little update on the the forecast. I do have to give an update to the state this month. We did meet as a finance committee um this past Friday and went over the forecast updated forecast. Um it is subject to change. There are a lot of variables of course this year with the property tax uh changes and legislation. So there's probably going to be some change and updates throughout this year. But this is the initial uh forecast that's currently uh being presented to the state. Um I did highlight with the arrows and the highlighted areas the summary of the forecast. Um in summary uh really our short term is still pretty solid. Uh still pretty stable.
You can see the first three columns. Um no operating deficits. Um still sufficient cash reserve. Um so um currently um with short-term forecast is still pretty good. Um the property tax changes are going to impact us and we're struggling to see those impacts probably in 2029. You can see that in the forecast. You can see the deficit spending starting to come at 613,000 and escalate in 2030. So even though the short term two to two and a half years is pretty stable, pretty good, um we are going to start seeing the impacts of these property tax changes. So um right now I would say there's a potential of a levy needed in that time frame 2029 2030. Um but you know that's still couple two three years away so there's still some time but it
is most likely these impacts are going to start happening over time. So um again shortterm still pretty good longterm is concerning with the changes to the property tax legislation. Um one of the key um assumptions is our state funding. Um we're projecting it to be pretty stable but we are on a guarantee and after next year 2027 it potentially could go down. So uh that is one of the biggest concerns of our forecast um that our state funding stays stable. Um it potentially could go down because of the guarantee. So that's something that we need to be um on the watch for. I don't know if there any questions about that. Now the roof project is um elementary roof project is not factored for this year. It's an encumber. So it'll be in next year's
um estimated expenditures. But there will be some timing whether that happens this sum you know this fiscal year or next fiscal year. Any questions about that? >> When when do you think we'll know? Will it be this? It will be in March or April or May or June whenever we know have a little better idea what some of these high revised codes are are going to do to >> I think it's going to be a process. I think um in April um every month there's going to be more information, more understanding of how the impacts um are going to play out. So uh it could be the rest of this calendar year to be honest with you till we really understand exactly how this is going to affect us long term. Um the good thing
is we're stable enough that we can, you know, take on some of these challenges for a couple years. Um but um again it's it's very likely that we're going to see very limited growth moving forward after this fiscal year. That's the one thing that these changes are going to do. It's going to limit our property tax growth and that's really the only growth that we really get. We get some on the income income tax side. Um we don't really get a much growth from our state funding. So and these property tax changes are going to limit the property tax growth for us after this year. You can see in the forecast that our our revenues are pretty flat throughout the forecast. In fact, next year we could actually see even a slight decrease in our
total reven that be next year. Yeah, this is the first year of a two-year >> right now >> 26 and 27 with the state were already locked in. >> Yeah. >> So, >> we shouldn't receive we shouldn't uh get a change our state funding for next fiscal year. >> Then there's a new tier by budget next year. Of course, we're a little over halfway through this fiscal year. So, in July, we're going to see that shift and you're we'll see even more of the impact after this fiscal year. So, of course, 2030 is going to shift over and that 2031 you're going to see even more of that impact, that lack of growth in our revenues. I appreciate you >> trying to wrap your head around. >> It's not easy. This has probably been well
there's been some difficult ones, but this is probably the one of the most difficult ones to try to project out. So, and that's why there's still probably going to be some updates and changes throughout this system. actually cab good thing is though we're we're in good enough shape that we can handle some of this for a couple years. So it's one of the reasons why you need some reserve to to take on some of these challenges. >> Are there any other questions? If not, is there a motion to approve the treasury report? >> Yes. Mr. Ps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichols. >> Yes. >> Item nine is consent agenda. Uh tonight in consent agenda is uh item 10 uh minutes from uh January 12th records commission. Item B is minutes from the organizational meeting. Item
C is minutes from the regular meeting. Item D approves minutes from the February 2nd work session. Um item 11 um approves the 2627 academic calendar as presented. Item 12 approves athletic contracts there and item B approves athletic volunteers. Item 13 is classified contracts. That'd be item A and item B 13. Item 14 are position assignments. Item A and item B. Item C. Item 15 is designation for school facilities. Item 16 approves the high school course offering booklet as presented. And then item 17 is uh certified job descriptions as item B of 17 classified job descriptions of it. Item 18 uh is for if necessary. That item 19 is trips for volleyball this summer. Any discussions? Looked at the two job descriptions that were requested. Didn't really spend much time on any of the others. Are
there any other job descriptions that had any huge changes or changes? >> I wouldn't say huge changes. I think that for some of them there was some acronyms in there um like technology we don't use, you know, that just didn't make sense. We took it out. Um but I had different groups of people like I even sat with our classified staff and went through job descriptions and received feedback from them. We received feedback from our billing principles, special ed coordinator, aids, custodians on the job descriptions just to make sure they seemed accurate. But we didn't make huge sweeping changes. I we kept them broad, which is what we want to do. Um, but I would say the two newest ones would be director of maintenance was turned into director of facilities and maintenance to cover
supervision of custodians and the buildings and grounds person. And then we updated a buildings and grounds um job description. Any other discussion? >> You didn't update your job description, did you? >> I did not. It just said >> it's constantly constantly updating. >> Is there a motion for consider? I'll make the motion. >> Second, >> Mrs. Evans. >> Yes. >> Mr. Le. >> Yes. Mr. Fox. Yes. >> Yes. Mr. >> Yes. Item 20 approves a 7,000 donation FFA uh from the fraternity that discussion. >> I'd like Yeah. Thank you to the Eagles for the donation equipment. Do we know exactly what it is? Is it a welder or >> I don't know exactly what it is. >> That would be great for students. Is there a motion? >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second.
>> Mr. L. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Burns. >> Yes. Mrs. Evans. >> Yes. >> Item 21 is the clerk state CCP agreement as presented. >> What is that agreement? >> We have to have an agreement with our college credit plus partners. So it just defines that yes, we are going to be in agreement with them to offer coursework. This in this case, it's chemistry. And it also delineates the pricing for the classes. So the state sets what the pricing can be for universities. >> And we have another one for >> Mary and second. >> Is there a motion for item 21? I'll second it. >> Yes. Mr. L. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Atkins. >> Yes. >> Item 22. Um, A,
approve the contract for Mr. Emily. >> Yeah. With Proare Therapy as presented. This is a nurse providing services to a special needs. >> Motion second. >> Mr. Michael, >> yes. >> Mr. Burns, >> yes. >> Mr. Atkins, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Mr. Cubs. >> Yes. 22B approves the transportation agreement with Matthew Sloan as presented. >> Is there a motion? >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. >> Mr. Burns, >> yes. >> Mr. Atkins, >> yes. >> Mr. Le, >> yes. >> Mr. BS, >> yes. >> Mr. Nickel, >> yes. And then 22C um approves the preschool service contract uh with Mary'sville and empty village >> and this is a student who lives in Fairbank. So it is our student but they're using the mini monarch academy. So that's why it says non-resident.
They are our resident. They're just non-resident to Mary >> um for transportation purposes and for the convenience of the parent. It worked out in our favor and theirs. the student does mini monarch just for the remainder of this year for preschool and then they'll come to our preschool. So, >> we do have students at Min Academy already. >> I'll make a motion. I'll second it. >> Mr. Atkins. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Derek uh Keegan says that the money is going for new welding helmets, new safety screens, fireproof shirts, gloves, and if there's money left over, potentially updates to the welvers themselves. >> Fireproof shirts would be pretty handy. Uh 22D approves the fiscal year 27 intent to participate between
Madison County ESC and Fair School District as presented. Is there a motion? >> What all is Madison Champagne providing? they provide um a program for students who with special needs, special services. And so basically, this isn't a contract saying that we're paying a certain amount of tuition or anything. It's just saying that we anticipate that we may partner with them to send a student or two students there next year. Mr. >> Yes. Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mr. C. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Atkins. >> Yes. >> Item 23 is the FBA professional development. uh moves theou between fairs uh local school district of education and fairb educational association. Very much. Yes, >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes, >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes, >> Mr. >> Yes, >> Mr. Le. >> Yes.
>> And then item 24 is for um it's anou absence. Um this is in regards to background check that was not put in the agreement. So when we negotiated there was an agreement that the district would pay for classified staff DCI FBI background checks. There was a tenative agreement signed both by the district and by OAPSI but it that agreement did not make it into the negotiated agreement. So that was found. So this is anou saying that it had it was the intent was that it would be in there. And so now we're just agreeing that it will be in there. Is there a motion? >> I'll second that, too. >> Mr. Nichl, >> yes. >> Mrs. Burns, >> yes. >> Mr. Atkins, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Mr. Ph. >> Yes. Item 25A
approves a change order for phase 2 high school uh middle school renovation industry building. >> This is an old change order from information I shared with you back last summer into the fall. It was more steel work. It was just some random change orders like different items that we approved or you knew about a long time ago. is finally coming forward as an official >> like that one was for the uh oh the new area >> the lobby area the steel extra steel work that they had >> that's a motion for by day. >> Mr. Burns, >> yes. >> Mr. Evans, >> yes. >> Mr. Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol, >> yes. Item 25B approves the change order for the board office renovations. So those are that's an old change order too. >> This
is a reduction in cost um because they finally did the punch on the board office and we didn't use all that was set aside. >> Don't see those very often do. >> No. I'll make a motion on that. >> Yes. >> Mr. Fox. >> Yes. >> Where was Where the money go? I read something about the drive or the money uh that they didn't remove the entrance. for the we left the temporary driveway down >> there. There was there was a reduction in some city. >> Yeah, we did. We got we got that back. >> That and the sand slitting on the field. Item C approves the HVAC replacement at Middle School High School as presented. >> And that's in front of you here. >> I guess the only thing I'm going to say about
this, it's a little disappointing that I understand like where we're at with this. It's just disappointing that um we I think as a board thought this this was going to be taken care of initially and um when they said oh HBAC and now they just come back and say well we've missed this I'm like how did they miss this? So >> I don't know really where that originated. Um, I did have a conversation again with them today and I think the feeling was there was a certain amount of money and there were many things that district was trying to accomplish and that got pulled out as something that could be done later. Um, financially we can do it now by replacing it now because it's not in great shape. Um, we're down we have two
high school units. One of them is functioning. That's a pretty important space. We have a lot of people in and out of there. So to have that go down on a, you know, 12 degree Friday night would probably not be a great thing. Um, they were put in in the early 2000s. Um, they need replacing. I did ask Arvin Miller to do an assessment of the units to say, do we really need to replace them? I think maintenance was like, you need to replace them. But I asked Arvin Miller to back that up. They said, yes, we do. This would be a good time to do it. All the equipment will be new at the same time. Um, in order to get the equipment though, this change order would let us go ahead and purchase
the equipment. There's a 18week lead time. So, that's putting it here sometime late June. Um, provided everything goes smoothly so they can get it installed before we have kids. >> I guess my bigger concern is like what else is there like this down in the future that they haven't shared with us yet >> for this project? >> Well, whatever. I mean, >> because I I think this is a surprise to me >> that didn't get included in this bill of work. >> Um >> I mean, unless it wasn't a surprise. >> No, it was a surprise. >> And the gym windows also >> and the Yeah, that's the that was the other thing I was thinking of like even the gym windows like I know I personally sat with you in some of this conversation
with the gym windows last and they never said anything about the asbescus at that point in time. They just said they were taken out and now >> they have charge for the asbestous abatement. >> So that is a change order that will be coming next month. >> I guess from my lens it's just a little disappointing that some of this stuff wasn't shared ahead of time and hopefully moving forward they will be brought to you know be brought up to us ahead of time. >> Does Alford feel that they can complete the the HVAC in the high school and the windows in the high school and not interrupt our summer gym schedule too bad. I mean >> gym schedule's going to be interrupted. >> Yeah. >> How long? >> It kind of depends on when
the equipment lands, but if they could time the windows and the equipment installation at the same time. >> Yeah. >> That would be the best case. >> Yeah. So we're exchanging light for light units. So we aren't adding capacity. So there is the question, can we use the same duct work? Like how compatible are the old units to the new units where the installation wouldn't be like starting fresh like >> most of the installation's on the rooftop, right? It's not necessarily anything inside the gym. >> What do they what do they how old do they think? They didn't give me time. >> All three of them are rooftop. >> What about one installation? >> I haven't I don't feel like that would take a super long time to do based on the other abatement things
I had to do. But um yeah, right now in talking to Alford and talking to Jay today, um I did say like are we just adding more to the scope of work that things aren't going to be able to get done and are we biting off more than we can chew by doing the gym? Like should we just hold off and do this a year from now? Should we do it now? And he goes, "If you order now, we can get it in in June." He goes, "We can get this done." So They're not feeling like they're fighting out more than they can chew. But as far as like finishing the gym for that's probably not in the cards this summer because they're going to be in there and we don't want to do that
and then have them on it. And the likelihood is that the end of June they're going to be on it. >> I guess I and I guess we're not really going to know on the Hback, but the Hback's not going to really other than probably when they're installing. I doubt anybody's going to be able to access the gym. But >> correct. Yeah. >> But the windows I guess I'd like to see what that anticipated time frame is on how long that's going to affect the usefulness of the gym. >> Yeah. I >> Is there a motion? I'll make a motion. >> I'll second it. >> Mr. Le, >> yes. >> Mr. Ps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Barnes. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> So, we don't have a change
order for the windows in here. How bad are the windows? How bad are they? Um, I don't know that they assess the quality of the windows. I think they just heard us say we would like them replaced. So, they haven't told me that they are good or bad. I could ask that question. >> I'm very much trying that extend gym down windows. I haven't heard too many ball game. So that's one that I think we need to >> Yeah. surprised we heard all windows. >> Yeah. Windows was ever I'm sure they probably have more efficient windows now. >> I'm sure they do too. I'd like to hear about that matter issues. >> Uh item 26 is discussion items. Any discussion items? If not, item 27 is committee reports. This point is totals. I believe Angie
sent the total report to everybody. >> Um, item B is legislative report. Kelly, >> great. Uh so uh I think in addition to hospital bill 129 um 186 309 and 335 ones that are really going to affect us here in the next year. Uh as Mr. Johnson said uh those are the big ones that we're paying attention to. Uh there was um in the Senate Education Committee um sponsor testimony on Senate Bill 330. Uh this bill would allow school districts to count mental health days as excused absences and name the bill the student wellness act. So that might be coming down our way. Um the committee also heard sponsor testimony for House Bill 462. Uh, and this is from Representative Tracy Richardson here in Mary'sville. Uh, this will allow students to possess the nasal epinephrine
um, delivery device in public in private schools in addition to the auto injector pen that many carry. Let's see what else in the House Education Committee. U, uh, the committee passed House Bill 500. This bill would designate the junior ROC uh program offered by schools as career tech education programs. They also heard first uh there was first hearing for House Bill 661. This bill would prohibit a middle or high school athlete from earning compensation from their name, image or likeness. And then the House Judic Judiciary Committee uh held its first meeting on House Bill 314. Uh this bill would restrict uh harassing or disruptive public records requests and permit private contractors to respond to the large uh public records requests. So that could be changing as well. Other than that, I'm trying to click on
these uh tax legislations to go through. >> I thought you slid by a >> student achievement. Sorry, I didn't hear you. Uh all three of the reports are in your share drive uh from the elementary school. We had a spelling bee and Drew Toby the fifth grader was the winner of that and Andrew Nichols a fourth grader was second place on that robotics club has been in competition with Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Gish was what level was robotics club was qualified for state? >> Um the it was high school. >> Okay. >> Yeah. first graders did a a Valentine adventure. It was kind of neat when the This is where they were getting Valentine's mail from all over different places and so forth. So, that was all kind of neat and it it tied in
with the uh Fairbanks Passion or Fairbanks Park that that we were celebrating during February. Uh let's see what else. Uh during the uh the Valentine celebrations at the kindergarten school, you and you got married. >> She was Lauren Cook and you was copyable. Uh the continuing professional development particularly focusing on math and literacy. And there's also a pretty good section in there with some middle middle year stories and reading. So if you haven't looked at them, that's worth taking a look at. Middle school uh in concentrating on parent teacher conferences. Had great turnout. You're building next year's schedules. Miss Hooper is kind of the guru of that thing, but Mrs. B's also helping out with that. They are completing the observations and evaluations for this year. We mentioned that Justin George is taking over Paul
Hellback's science class posting for a middle school math teacher, a sixth grade math teacher. There's I think everybody saw it, but Mr. super made some recommendations for cancers of excellence instead of MJS and that's kind of middle school high school we're working on strengthening academic systems expanding student opportunities and long-term career statuses so some of the things that are being added for next year CCCP sits CCP intro to business AP pre-calculus in a history of music class. They're working on Panther Pathways, different avenues to graduate through different courses to graduation in some of the work that DT is doing. Also, student support. They're going to uh I'm not sure I can read everything I wrote down here, but they're introducing more peer tutoring support. and more student teacher data team conversations. And there's also going
to be a career drops fair that'll align with their parent teachers. They already have that. >> Yeah. >> And just follow up, boys and girls did both of the their basketball tournaments. Girls play at Madison Planes tomorrow night. Boys play here Saturday at 4. It was a hell of a shot. >> That That one went pretty viral pretty quick. >> It's It's one of my top five alltime favorite shots here. >> Did you shoot the other four? >> No, Tim Miller made me immediately aware of that right after that. >> Thought it wasn't you shooting that shot. uh podium and grounds. Well, we uh we had our first meeting kind of resurrecting back into the building and grounds committee. I think probably had eight eight or so people there. Uh so it was good to
to kind of get back kind of start brainstorming on what all u you know that that that committee can can kind of look at. It's just for the most part more of an advisory kind of a step to go between the administration and and the board type of type of deal and kind of also kind of prioritize you know some of those some of those improvements in the long term. Um, I think one of the first things that the building and grounds was going to try to work on was um the job descriptions on building grounds person and maintenance person and kind of help on that some. I think as the interviews go forward, I think a few of those members are going to going to help with the interviews and selection of our future
maintenance facil maintenance staff. Um, we currently have turf for the softball field. It's not on the softball field yet, but weather permitting here shortly, I think they're they're ready to get started whenever whenever they catch a break with the with the weather. And then um as was kind of explained is once they get the turf down, then they'll they'll basically build the fence. Dugouts come in, they're all pre-cast um and then kind of finish from the inside out. Um, so they're all still very optimistic that we will be playing softball up there very soon. I'm sure the softball team is probably glad they weren't out there playing today, but one of these days, Mother Nature might might help us out. Um, >> it' be probably the first first part of April. And I don't know
that >> season opener. We might not hit the season opener, but >> um I think for the most part they're they're all there. I think there's they're they're still optimistic, but it's it's going to be very fresh. >> It's really weather dependent. >> Um that's pretty much where we're at. I think we're going to probably have another meeting relatively soon. Did we set a meeting yet? >> We didn't really >> think we were >> going to probably be with them. >> I think before the school year, we're going to meet again, but I would like to invite committee members to serve on those interview committees for facilities and maintenance director and then for um our buildings and ground. So, But it was a nice group. Very student centered, super invested in their banks just and
people with expertise in the area too. >> I was going to ask who makes up the committee. Is it parents, community? So, the two board members, myself, FBA president, uh, athletic director will be our maintenance facilities person, and then community members, a booster representative. So, >> is there anybody from the Junior Baseball Association on that? >> Not there's there's a few that have been on the Junior Baseball Association. We stayed in touch with the current association. Well, know that we're still maintaining our right to that field. >> It sounds like >> Yeah. I mean, I don't >> I believe Gray is >> We just need to stay in touch with it. >> I don't know who the president of summer baseball is now, but >> um Baitman, I know. Not sure. Not sure. >> Good.
>> But we we would plan on mowing fertilizing rights to it. They're not the field and we're done with it. We're out here and running out here then. that point. I think the other thing we can talk about is we satisfied that once the fields in we're not going to need that anymore. They got that right or that's definitely a conversation. I don't know. I don't know how the practice schedule I mean that would be something that probably Gray would really need to kind of discuss that with the softball when you get a junior high a JB and a varsity team all three trying to practice. Um sometimes that can be difficult with one field >> can be difficult though. uh a lot of yeah so I don't know I mean I don't what you
have to look at there >> right I do agree with you on we probably need to make sure that everyone's on the same page >> just so that >> especially the month of March you know, we're going to have to practice over there. >> And I I know Grace's had those conversations because we do not anticipate opening our season on our new field. So, we're he has games planned still at Milford. Yeah. So, I know that exists. >> And one other thing that it wasn't actually in the building grounds, but Greg mentioned it at finance meeting the other day that he's taking a look at more of the facility rental type situations and trying to make sure that we have a consistent clear rate and policy for for all the different outside organizations that utilize
our our gyms and fields and whatnot. >> That needs to tune up for sure. >> That's all I have, Mr. Um item 28 is executive session and there is a reason to go into executive session. There are three reasons to go into executive session this evening. Item B is to consider the employment of a public employee official. Item B is to uh consider the discipline of a public employee official. And item O is to consider uh matters to require kept confidentially by study of law or regulation. Is there a motion? >> Second. >> Take a five minute break. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. Atkins. >> Yes. We'll take about a 5m minute break and then we'll be right. >> See if it warmed up any out
there.
