That'd be on the 20th. >> We'll be back. Uh, what about we want to set December when we start at 6:30? >> If we have a choir concert, I don't know if it will fall at the same time. >> Okay. >> We both choir around the athletic schedule. >> Okay. 007needed. >> I'm sure with construction we may have something coming up for summer planning. I just don't know exactly when that will be. That second >> Mrs. Atkins Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichl. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Uh for con item seven for consent agenda. These are the items that can be in consent agenda as presented. Reservations, employment of temporary personnel, appointment of purchasing agent, board of education compensation, advances on tax settlement, investment of internal funds, internal funds, payment of bills, authorization of treasur to maintain and operate all accounts, authorize treasur to A NPA dues authorize the superintendent to approve applications for all eligible federal grants. Uh point the superintendent to the Union County Tax and Senate review council and I think that's [laughter] it. Those same authorizations that change it.
[clears throat] Make a motion. >> I'll second it. >> Mr. Living. >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichl. >> Yes. >> Mr. B. >> Yes. >> Mr. Z. >> Yes. >> That concludes our organizational meeting. Mr. Phelps >> here. Mr. Living >> here. Join me for a moment of silence followed by the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and
to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Item five is public participation and resilience even. Um item six is approval of the agenda. Is there a motion? >> Second, Mr. Yes, >> Mrs. Burns. >> Yes, >> Mr. Evans. >> Yes, >> Mr. Cox. >> Yes. [snorts] >> Item seven is >> okay. So, um starting with this is board of education uh recognition month, so appreciation month. So, many thanks to you for serving the community of Fairbanks and our students and families. And um I guess even as a superintendent candidate coming into this job did not realize how much time you invest into service as a board member. So thank you so much for all that you do and your thoughtful and student center thinking.
Um I know the community is grateful for your work and welcome Kelly to the board. You're going to be a great addition. So delighted to have you. And personal plug for myself. I just thank you for helping me transition as a new superintendent to the superintendency. Thank you for the support and calls and answering my questions and providing some direction to me. I appreciate it and to Aaron, too. So, thank you. Um, for our facilities update, there was a lot of progress made to the high school punch list over winter break. So, I included pictures um in the weekly board update to you. Um this includes um finishing the tile backsplash in the bathrooms, putting the shrouds in all the classrooms over the HVAC pipes and doing some painting in the lobby, putting lockers in
where some locker bays have come out because of construction. Today they installed the storefront door into the middle school office. So the old wooden board office door was there. Um now it's a nice glass door that matches all the other doors in that middle school entry. So, a lot was accomplished over winter break and I'm grateful to Alfred for hustling that along and getting that done. Coming up, I will have a meeting with Carmen Miller to walk the building, talk through what is next summer look like, how much are we going to ask middle school teachers to have to move things within their classroom? Are we going to have to move some things out of classroom? So, get an idea of how to plan for next summer, what teachers need to do. We'll also talk
about a facelift to the high school middle school music classroom that's shared by middle school and high school students. So, we're going to look at what that would be and we will collaborate with the music teachers in those design decisions. We also are working on finalizing the drawings for the campus access road so that we can go out for design bid build. Um, so once those drawings are complete, they will be shared with the board and then we can get moving on the process for the access road. And then also we need to pull those baseball design drawings back out and go through them again to get a final design for baseball upgrades for the board to approve to move forward with that. Um, hopefully after this June 26 season is over. Um, so those
are some construction things coming up. Softball is ahead of schedule. This has been a very smooth process, great communication, so it's it's really gone well. Weather has been generally cooperative. So we will have turf this month and could even start to go down, which surprisingly I didn't think we put it down so soon, but weather permitting, it can start going down and being installed. Dugouts come next month. Um, all systems go in the softball. So, that's good news. And for the year ahead, um it will just be exciting to see the master facilities plan come to fruition. Very exciting to see our girls softball team play their first game on that new field and finally, you know, have a home here on campus. So, they are really excited for that. We'll welcome our newest Panthers
and kindergarten roundups. That process for registration will be starting soon. And um there is new legislation that says that students who start kindergarten must be five by the first day of school. So our kindergarten starts later than everybody else. But our kindergarten students would have to be five years old by the first day of kindergarten when kindergarten starts which is a few days after our other students start. So our cuto off date was August 1 and so now it will be the first day of actual kindergarten. So we may collect a few additional students uh starting kindergarten. [snorts] I will also work with continuing our focus on literacy, math and authentic learning instructional coaching with our teachers. In March we will have our measurements that matter. So Quinn and I began to kind of plan
what that will look like. It'll probably be three videos that we will push out during one week in March about the great things happening in Fairbanks. We'll also be preparing heavily this semester for state tests and graduation. And um then we will keep our eyes on the new property tax legislation and what that will mean for schools and school funding as we get more information and start to see how this will play out. So that's what we're looking forward to in the second semester. Important question for you. >> Yeah. [clears throat] >> On the punch list, is there anything that didn't get completed? >> There are a few things. So, >> major. >> No. Um, >> second part of that is on the entrance. Did they get the flooring done and we're just waiting on
the carpet now or the flooring still be done? >> The flooring is done in the entrance. So, we have the carpet within the vestibule and then we have the gray to the gray tile and the lighter gray tile in the entryway. What we don't have is that flooring inlay. >> Yeah. >> And the reds just aren't going to match. So, um I think that we're going to pursue a really nice rug option. >> But the flooring is there. We have a vinyl flooring there. It's it's complete. All we're waiting for is whatever the carpet option is. >> Correct. The flooring um we do have the manufacturer coming out to take a look at the flooring. >> And we did do cleaning. They they tried to clean it multiple times over winter break and it's still
not quite there. So the manufacturer themselves is coming out to look at it, get resolution on that. >> And that's the lighter color. >> Yeah. >> Where the >> seating areas? >> Yeah. It just looks like the construction dust is got like trapped in there. We're having a hard time getting that look out of it. So, the manufacturer is coming too. >> Bathrooms are pretty well complete. >> I think the only thing left in the bathrooms is to move those heating heating units that are in the biggest stall up higher. I don't know. I haven't checked to see that those have been moved. I know that wasn't done when we came back on the 5th. That would I think be the last thing that mattered. But the tile looks very nice. It really made a
difference on that wall. >> Rush death and said, "I thought I was in the wrong school. Let's use the bathroom." Thought I walked in someplace else. >> Just a couple updates. Um the governor did sign uh four property tax bills that are going to have some impact on our financial forecast. Um it's most likely going to be more in the longer term in the three to four or five year uh range. Um I still feel our short term is is pretty stable and pretty good. Um but these property tax changes are going to have an impact uh on the forecast over the longer term. So um [clears throat] I do want to schedule a finance committee meeting to to go over some of these changes. Um, as information comes in, there's going to be more
and more probably updates. Uh, but sometime in the next 30 days, I would like to have plans committee meeting to start going over how this is going to impact our forecast. Um, yearly audit is getting ready to to begin. Um, so you start seeing some communications about that. Um, probably I would say until the end of February till that's completed. So other than that, if there's any questions, that's all I have. When you say short term two years, >> one to two years. >> Any other questions? >> If not, is there a motion? >> I'll second it. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. M >> yes. >> Mr. Lat. >> Yes. Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichl. >> Yes. Item nine is consent agenda and this evening in consent agenda or item 10 is minutes
from December 15th. Item 11 is athletic contracts. That's state as presented below. Uh item 12 are classified contracts A, B, and C. Item 13 are supplemental contracts. Item 14 are two resignations. And then item 15 is financial service contract. That's presented. That is the end of consent agenda. Are there any questions? It's not actually 314. [snorts] [laughter] >> I'll make a motion. Mrs. D. >> Yes. >> Mr. Leica. >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nickel. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> The next one. >> What's that? Let's go back to >> we just need to give Mr. Metro break [laughter] uh SRO agreement. Um it's with the sheriff's department and that did not change. Correct. >> Okay. And item B uh is a school resource officer fiscal agreement
between uh Union County and surve school district. Is there a motion? I'm sorry, I did that wrong. The SRO first would be a motion for that one. >> We need to vote on 15. >> I think we probably need to go back to 15 and vote on it. I think just accidentally put that in. >> I think I think so. Yeah, >> let me jump back to 15. So that's item 15A is for K12. That's the consulting financial services as presented. Is there a motion for financial services? That's >> Mr. Le. >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nickel. >> Yes. Mrs. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Atkins. >> Yes. >> Then item 16 is the SRO agreement item. >> Is there a motion for that? >> Yeah. I would I would like
to say though that Sheriff Justice worked through this with us and was very approachable and trying to make sure that we're all on the same page going forward. >> [clears throat] >> came from [cough] understanding of our financial position that to make such a large financial change at this kind of midstream of the year for us was a big ask. So he was willing to, you know, keep the current pricing that we've been paying the same for another year. So we appreciate that. Anyway, so why not? >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second it. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. D. >> Yes. >> Mr. Yes. Item 16 B approves a fiscal agreement between Union County for events and the county sheriff's department
as >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. [snorts] >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. 17A approves an agreement between local schools and the Madison Champion County Educational Service Center as presented. Motion second. >> Yes. Yes, >> Mr. >> Yes, >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes, >> Mr. Nickel. >> Yes. >> Item B of 17 uh approves a service agreement and statement award for professional development with the ESC of central Ohio as presented. >> Is there a motion to continue? This is a a little additional literacy PD that's very specific to the elementary school. So the person we had was high school, a little more high school ccentric and this is going to be a little specialized toward elementary. Mrs. Atkins. >> Yes. >> Mr. P. >> Yes. >>
Mr. N. >> Yes. Mr. B. >> Yes. >> Item 18 is donations for three sets of bleachers from Double City Schools. 15,000. Motion. I'll second. >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. Mr. Barnes. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> I call I emailed and then spoke with their uh principal. 19 uh roofing project approves gorilla design build solutions to specific project bids for partial high school and elementary replacement and restoration. >> Is that him we went through for all the rest of the roofing projects? >> Yeah, typically we've always used garden side solutions as the project manager for roofing projects. the high school. That's just parts smaller gym. I believe >> it was a high school gym and then we we did a portion of the high school group
last summer, but we knew we'd probably have to continue it. So, it's kind of over those science science main classrooms. >> Have they been able to locate a little bit of alance? It sounds like where they did the new roofing to the existing roofing where we need to continue on this next summer. There's some kind of lift in water as it come down there and that's where that spot is leaking. So, they're aware of it. They know what it is and they'll address it next summer. >> Mr. Ph. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Burns. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Atkins. Yes. >> Yes. >> Item 20 is a public and it's not No, it's not Kelly. >> I Are you interested to go? >> I'd be happy to do it. Kelly wants
to do it. She's welcome to join me. >> Three hours of online fun. >> Wait. >> I did a couple years ago at the mall. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, who you want to do it or >> I'm gonna do it regardless if you want to say Kelly and then >> Yeah, I'll do it as well. that you can make up or >> check though there might be a session where >> I know there's one at the conference but >> outside they do have training the I'm going to that training in a couple weeks over the weekend down there. >> Maybe you train. >> Yes. >> I know the attorney general usually offers some kind of training throughout the year, too. And I can send you out on that. Okay. >> I'll make
motion. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Burns. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Phelps. >> Yes. >> Item 21 is softball change order. Approves the softball change order for the school board as presented. And that's basically where the soft salt balls went out. We're starting to raise some >> They had a sponsor come forward wanting to know how they could help softball. Softball wanted to we were g we in our budget for the softball field had it kind of a base level scoreboard. They wanted to have fancier one with I don't even know what all the specifics are they wanted, but they wanted to upgrade. So, um, we received a quote for that from Field Source and they found a sponsor to to help them out with that. So, that's why I'm signing the
change. This is like above and beyond what the board had already agreed to have a contribution for. A motion. >> I'll make a motion. >> Mrs. Barren. >> Yes. >> Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mr. P. >> Yes. Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. Item 22 is cyber security framework version 2. 2.0 restoration. >> Yeah. This is House Bill 96 which is requiring a lot of cyber security measures and one of them is to adopt this national framework for cyber security and protecting data privacy. So that's what this is a motion. I'll second it. Mr. D. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Mr. >> Fel. >> Yes. >> Mr. Nichol. >> Yes. >> Item 23 of discussion items. I have discussion items. Item 24, committee reports. First one is to get >> in construction. >> Yeah. [laughter] >>
I didn't even think about the paper yesterday. >> What's that? >> Yesterday, >> did it? There we go. So for tolls um enrollment process for the 2627 school year begins. Applications are now being accepted for students interested in participating in tolls career technical programs during the 2627 school year. Uh their priority application window will close at midnight on Martin Luther King Day. Today over 800 applications have been submitted. The main campus enrollment currently stands at 1,182 students. Their peak enrollment for 2526 school year was 1,33 students. They congratulate their students who have met their graduation requirements and elected early or December graduation at their home schools and wish them well in their transition to the workforce or college. And then um they have sort of senior only programs for next school year. As local workforce
needs continue to shift, new senior onlyly programs have been developed. These new programs will be offered at our school's main campus facility. They include Academy of Business Technology and financial leadership, AI and cloud automation, food systems, and controlled agriculture. The new courses combined with their existing senior only programs are one-year programs which provide students the opportunity to earn industry certifications and they may receive articulated college credit. On January 23rd at 9:00 a.m. an online discussion will be held with Ohio Senator Lewis Blessing. Free registration is necessary. Um it's a great opportunity to receive an update on workforce development initiatives happening in Ohio as well as a Q&A u with a member of the Senate Education Committee and they also have their elite program at TLS. Um this stands for exper experiential learning and technical education
and it's the newest tools offering to our homeschool students. This work-based learning program is designed for high school seniors. As an alternative to the late starter early release schedule many seniors prefer in this program, our tolls based coordinator, Mr. Steve Collie, as well as members of his support team, will attempt to place interested students in paid internship positions. And then Tolls will have their board appreciation dinner on Wednesday, April 22nd. So that's all >> legislative has been very quiet because I think there's still a long winter break. Their winter breaks longer than public schools winter break. I guess [laughter] I really haven't seen where they're going to come back. When are they coming back into session? >> What comes back in January the other February? So it was >> long winter. >> Yes. Long winter
student achievement. >> Um he's got all three reports. So there wasn't a whole lot going on, but take a look at those see what they did put in there. Just to let you know DT what we're working on this year. We broke down individual groups at the last DT meetings and we're going to be helping define the areas of staff and student wellness, community engagement, career development, workforce readiness, those types of group things. I'm on the committee for development that group. Did you get assigned to the committee or you're going to see a whole thing? >> I'm Chloe. I'm listening to what every committee has to say. >> First two things, staff and student wellness and the community engagement. >> That one. >> [laughter] >> Good building. >> Well, Mrs. Chapman usually steals the thunder
on the building and grounds, [laughter] but we were Mr. Nicole and I were up up on the field last week and it is uh the softball field is moving along very I believe ahead of schedule as it stands right now. Weather permitted. Everybody likes to throw in the who knows what the weather's going to be in Ohio tomorrow, let alone in another month. But uh there's a lot of concrete. Boats are up for the exterior fence. Um the batting cages are the footers are up for that as well. That's a that's going to be a large area that's going to be um well utilized throughout throughout everything. I think they were getting ready to and they may have already done it today, but they were going to pour the basically the back stop footers and
prepare for the the poles and the nets on the back stop. And it's it's gonna it's going to be a unique with the full net from dugout to dugout. There's going to be a I think it's going to be a great place to to watch a softball game just with the view is going to be very unobstructed. I think you know most people are going to be kind of consolidated into that back back stop area. So they're doing a nice job. It's moving along well. Um, I think we do need to probably look at maybe a March or early April building and grounds committee meeting to try to bring bring everybody back together and sort of look at goals moving forward. So, I don't know what everybody's schedule would be on that, but maybe that
could be a marry that up with a work session. >> Yeah. and kind of do that. >> Information on the baseball field that go out. >> Uh, if I remember right back in late summer, early fall, I thought they were talking January, February, I think. >> Just don't forget that part. >> [clears throat] >> I think probably sooner than later, I'm guessing. >> Yeah, that might be a Garland question or Garmin question. >> Miller uh >> design. >> Going into winter break, we had conversations about our plans for the spring and like needing to get the drawings done and needing to pull that sign of the baseball field back out and have that conversation. So if I do not hear from them, you know, in the next couple days, I'm going to nudge them for
a date that we can >> for some reason you said March in order to get that budget. >> Yeah, we should make sure that our design is correct so that we can make a plan and prove that to build so we can move. Yeah. Probably vote on a GMP and all that kind of thing for next projects in March. I would think the big the big lag time would be if we artificial turf the field. >> Yes. >> You know, we don't have to worry. The dugouts are going to stay. So there's not a lot of lead time on I I would say this the turf would be the major >> Yeah. >> determining factor on you have to have everything done by. Uh the one thing we did talk about last week with when
we were out there on the on the grounds was how do we wanted to how do we want to implement the net in the right field so balls are not going over into into the the new throwing area for the track. Um, you know, I think that's that's one thing that we maybe need to see who installed those poles in the netting on the left field >> and maybe see if that's something that that can go that route or however we need to do that to get that installed before Well, it it was brought up to Gray that the soccer boosters purchased those. >> They would like to have them in the back. >> I think [laughter] back on the practice field. Well, we talked we talked about >> I mean I guess we find
out >> for sure. >> Oh yeah. >> Yeah. So >> I mean that is that is probably on the >> tighter schedule. >> Yeah, you're right. It was a long ways away in September. Yeah, [clears throat] >> it is on my agenda and I do have it to Barbara Miller and get those design plans and I knew that we needed to add that additional netting. So, I think we can pull that together. Very good. provided. Uh there is a reason to go into executive session this evening. Um for item B is to consider the employment of the public employee official and item O to consider matters required to be kept confidential by federal law or regulations by state statutes. Is there a motion? >> We'll take a five minute break. >> Oh, sorry, >> Mr.
Nichol. >> Yes, >> Mr. Burns. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Evans. >> Yes, Mr. >> Yes. >> We'll take about a fivem minute break and see Mrs. Could we maybe just take a look at some of the >> Oh, sure. Quick, just maybe a five or 10 minute take a little hot lap and >> Y >> see some of the look completed over winter break. >> Speed walking speed walking. Let's go. >> Yeah. >> [laughter]
