I'd like to call to order the really loud November meeting of the Oak Hills local school district board of education. If you could all rise for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Hey, Mr. Bane, you could call the role, please. >> Mrs. Philpot >> here. >> Mr. West here. Mr. Hayy >> here. Mrs. Ibold >> here. >> Mr. Yorgavan. >> Okay, first up we have communications. >> Yeah, just first off just wanted to uh say thank you to the high school team. and they had their annual veterans assembly today. Outstanding event. We had over 200 uh veterans that were in attendance over at the high school.

Um specifically now we do we have a mic they're asking for question. >> All right. Thank you. Thank you. Absolutely. So just wanted to start off by saying uh thank you and congratulations to the high school. the high school uh had their annual Veterans Day assembly today. They had over 200 veterans that they uh that were in attendance today. And so specifically uh thanks go out to Brett Schneieber, uh Paul Lumper, Megan Sullivan, Rob Vasy, and Kyle Funk, and Brian Connors, our high school principal. Uh all of them are involved with coordinating the event. But, uh, just if you've never been there, really an awesome event that recognizes our veterans in the community every year, uh, and just continues to be attended really well by our veterans. Um, all of our kids go and it's,

uh, it really is just a special event. So, thank you. I know Mr. Connor is here. Thank you to Mr. Connors and the team at the high school for putting that on and, uh, recognizing our veterans again. And then just a reminder that uh, tomorrow is a professional development day. know students are in school and it is also election day and just encourage everybody to go out and vote. That's it. >> Okay. If I could have a motion to adopt the agenda. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Can you call the role, please? >> Mr. West. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hayy. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Ibold. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Philpot. >> Yes. >> Okay. We can move on to the treasures report. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Uh this evening I have four items

to report on. Uh the first is the federal government shutdown uh and uh the impact on Oak Hills local school district. I'll start with our food service department. Uh a message from our food service director, Kelly Welderly. Uh the child nutrition department is pleased to confirm compliance with all federal and state regulations from the prior year. uh which include reporting, accountability, and nutrition standards. Uh the district also wants to reassure families uh that they will continue to operate the food service department regardless of the status of the federal government and funding. Families who have financial or household circumstances that have recently changed are encouraged to apply or reapply for federal lunch program as directed by the federal government, which includes the free and reduced lunch program. Oak Hills remains committed to ensuring all students will

continue to have their nutritious meals served on everyday basis. Uh so with regards to the federal shutdown, we'll continue to monitor that. Uh right now we have not been anything has been communicated to our district that we're going to lose any sort of funding. Uh but if something would change, I'll certainly keep the board and the community aware of that. Uh the second item that I have this evening um is a legislative update. So, as our board is aware, um the general assembly, uh is currently discussing many, many different proposed pieces of legislation regarding property taxes and property tax relief. Uh and so our district is fully supportive of any sort of property tax relief uh for all groups, seniors, renters, single single parent, whatever it might be. We're absolutely supportive of property tax relief,

but we also have to advocate for our public school district. Uh just like any public entity, uh we rely heavily on our local community, uh which funds about 60% of our total operations. There's two pieces of legislation that are currently um being discussed. one has passed the house uh which is House Bill 186 which was passed by the house last week uh 73 to 23 uh which was voted upon um that would impact Oakills by a total of $800,000 in 2027 and another reduction of $700,000 in 2028. We're the only district in Hamilton County that's impacted by House Bill 186. Um, and so we're very cognizant cognizant of that because the relief to the taxpayer is really minimal. Um, and out of all 600 districts across the state, there's about 90 of them that are

being impacted. So, we're we're one of those 90 and we're the only one out of 23 in Hamilton County that are being impacted by House Bill 186. We talk with our legislators on a daily basis uh through email, phone, whatever it might be when anything comes up uh and they're fully aware of that and we ask they advocate on our behalf. The other item is House Bill 335 uh which is a little bit more complex uh which is regards to inside millillage. Uh inside millillage funds our infrastructure fund which is our permanent improvement fund. uh House Bill 335 would cap the level of inflation and the level of increase as far as funding we would get for infrastructure needs. So we use that particular fund for any sort of pavement, roof, windows, so on and

so buses, anything like that. And so we budgeted according to the law that was established 50 years ago. If they were to change that law, that could significantly impact the infrastructure of our district. So, we'll continue to keep you posted. That one is still currently sitting in the House. That has not been voted out of the House. Um, but House Bill 186 is currently now in the Senate. So, I'll keep you posted on both of those pieces of legislation as well as any others that may may arise. Uh, the last two items that I have um are a bit of good news for our district. Uh, and this is uh district recognition. Uh, the district was recently awarded the certificate of excellence for financial reporting. Uh that financial reporting certificate was provided by the GFOA

which is the government finance officers association. Uh the certificate of financial excellence and reporting um is recognition of our annual audit that is presented by uh our my department as well as um the entire district office. Uh but it's really a testament to our entire staff. Uh quite frankly uh our secretaries do a tremendous job. Obviously our teachers, our support staff. Uh there are a number of laws and rules and regulations in place in public education. Uh and we're audited on those annually. Our audit report is available on our website as well as the auditor state website. Uh so I'm I'm the messenger of good news. Uh but credit really goes to our entire staff and our entire district um for receiving this recognition. The only other item that I'll report um is a second

audit that we had uh which relates to one of our parochial partners St. Dominic. So we have five parochial schools in our boundary. Uh pleased to report uh thanks to Dr. Tim Sabolski, our assistant superintendent, as well as Jamie Burley, our assistant treasur, uh that audit came back clean, impeccable, and so uh we remain having a great relationship with all five parochial partners in our district and uh we continue to look forward to uh a great relationship. So a lot there, but if there's any questions from the board, I'll be happy to answer. Thank you. >> Coming right back. >> Next up, we have the superintendence report. >> Yeah. Thank you very much. It is my privilege to introduce Mrs. Emily Winkle, our principal here at Oakdale and I believe why most of you are

probably in attendance tonight. So, Mrs. Winkle, >> thank you for invitation. I apologize. Our lights are uh motion sense and so forth. I see a lot of what's going on. Um but more importantly, I'm excited to announce our odellation. It's a group that meets weekly on Thursday mornings. It consists of 52 fourth and fifth graders. The group is led by Pia who is 15th year with us as we do. Throughout the year, Amisha has several performances with her first performance being a Christmas themed musical titled Star Bus. The musical is about Santa needing to find a new buff to leave his sleigh knows shine. They will be singing two songs from that musical tonight. The first one is titled Stressed, which highlights the frantic feeling we all experience during the holiday season. And the second

song is titled One Star, which features Santa and Mrs. Claus working to find their star bug for the season. We have two featured soloists tonight. They will be fifth grade students, Gabriel Carter. Any further ado, here are Heat. Heat. Yeah. [music] Heat. [music] [music] Yeah. Heat. Heat [music] [music] up [music] here. Um that's it. I need a motion to adjurnn. >> I know we have to sign that's at your discretion

and whatever president you want to discuss. >> Yeah, I'm fine with that. We will need you to sign in >> and then um you'll have to state your name and address before you talk. Oh, that's fine. Heat. Heat. Heat. 5 minutes. Okay, my name is Justin. >> [music] >> down over the course of the last couple years. I'm a [music] disabled vet surgeries breast cancer. So that's financial [music] and I understand we have to use pay like that but we have an issue of bridge down this year. My daughter was called up in front of class [music] her parents u student fees told she wasn't allowed to attend the field trip that she wor for for lack of a language for and throughout her entire class number one that's financial discrimination she has no control

over her parents financial issues it's a bad complaint and I seriously I called everyone including the governor's office in Paris to help her over something she has no control of. You guys need to look at the way these things are being done. It's not fair to the students. Okay. I don't I'm a district teacher. I've never heard of a school district withholding something children work for cuz parents don't pay it. If you guys are that money hungry, you're all going to lose your positions. I swear to you, I will [music] grass grass. I will not have my children. I love I love that. But for someone to do that to my daughter in the middle of class and her home to me that she's not going to be rewarded for something she worked so hard

for. You're talking perfect attendance, straight A's and you treated that to how you were. I understand the need to pay fees, but parents fall behind. Look at our financial situation. We keep doing all this right now. We're screwed. You know, we're up here. We're talking about shut down. I know a lot of families in this area that are struggling just to get by every week. I'm blessed because I get pension and I get my social security. A lot of people don't get that. So I implore you that really I don't know what the new and that's the other thing that I list new policies that we're having. First of all, we have these policies. We have the titles. We don't know what's within these policies. Are we going to do the same thing that happened

to Bridge or anyone answer for that? The the policies are all online. You can search by keywords and such. However, I'm sure there's not a policy that that covers that specific situation. But that doesn't mean that we couldn't look at that. And the thing that worked for me so bad is I followed all the steps to make sure everything was said, I believe it was Marcy who actually helped me off. Um, but I file paperwork to make sure that we get around this year. >> We we typically don't um have back and forth conversations at board meetings. Um I think this is probably the first all of us are are here. I mean I know I haven't heard of this particularly. >> That's one reason I have not. >> Yeah. Which is fine. Um we

typically ask people to follow sort of a chain of command. So if that happened at Bridgetown, you would have gone to the principal at Bridgetown. It it [music] keeps going from there. um it sounds like we could help you understand what some of the policies are and definitely um make sure that that situation does not happen. So, if you would if you would like to send an email to myself and probably Dan um the superintendent, we we definitely will take a look at that situation, >> you know, and that's why I'm speaking. >> I appreciate it. It's hard to get up and air your your your laundry. I understand. So, thank you. all the way up to the governor's office and my wife just doing >> Yeah. Well, like I said, I personally haven't heard

anything of of it. So, [music] um but I I'd be happy to have a conversation with you and and Dan Dan's probably better than me me even first. Yeah. [music] I have great but that's why [music] I'm speaking and it's not just me. I'm talking to other parents in the district. You know, it's not very kids. Everyone's struggling. So, >> if you stick around afterward, um I'll get your name and number and then I'll make sure I give you a call tomorrow. Yep. Absolutely. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Can I have a motion to adjourn the meeting? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Could you call the role, please? >> Mrs. Philpot. >> Yes. >> Mr. West. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hayy. >> Yes. Mrs. I >> Yes. meeting.
