Good evening and welcome to this February 23rd, 2026 meeting of the Sylvania board of education. Adam, please call the role. >> Uh, Miss Hoffman >> here. >> Miss Klin >> here. >> Miss Lavallet >> here. >> And M here. Greg Feller is absent. >> Please join us in the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. We are with you Dr. Thank you Miss Laval. Good evening everyone. Just a few announcements for today. Uh first I would like to invite our community to join us on March 11th at North View High School where I along with my colleagues will present a state of the schools. Uh come out and
hear what's going well in Sylvania schools. Actually, we've also identified some areas for opportunity as we will share the responses that um the summary of course from our community survey that took place last fall. So, I'm excited to share this opportunity for everyone. Again, it's at 6 PM. That's on March 11th, and that will take place at Northview High School in the auditorium. Also, I would like to add that our safe routes to school initiative is finally off the ground and running. I'm so excited. It has been an 18month journey working with not only the Ohio Department of Transportation, but also the Lucas County uh Department of Engineers and um Sylvania Township. So, we're looking forward to some of the improvements that will take place for a couple of our buildings across the district north
specifically on the east side of town. Uh White Creek Ele Elementary will finally have a sidewalk in front for our kiddos to walk. Also, Arbor Hills will have um some new enhancements in regards to walking trails to access the building and also Hill View. So, those are just a few of the enhancements. We did have some work done out on Midshaw. They're going to continue with a sidewalk on Midshaw. Originally, it was supposed to be on the west side of Midshaw as you're coming down in front of Central Trail. It was going to be a connecting sidewalk from the roundabout on Sylvania in Midshaw. and then come all the way down on the west side of the road and it would connect to Central Trail. So any of the students who would have lived in
the River Tree development, the new development down there would have been able to walk to one side of the school and go to Central Trail. Um, however, there were some restrictions there, some lines that they couldn't write that weren't just right. So now that sidewalk will actually go on the east side of Midshaw, but nevertheless an opportunity for our students to walk from any development that's further down as it's continues to grow. So we're excited about those two things. I understand that they've started clearing trees out behind Whiteford for the work to take place. So hopefully if mother nature cooperates, which she's been pretty pnikity lately, she doesn't know what she wants to do. Uh hopefully that will be up and going and under construction and ready to go by the first day of school
in August. And those are my two updates. Any questions or comments? >> Thank you. >> All right. Okay. We are now at the portion of our agenda for public participation for items that are on the agenda and no one is uh here for that. So we move on to the treasur. >> All right. Uh consent agenda for the month. Uh we have 4.1 uh minutes of previous meetings for the 26th of January and February 9th. Uh treasures report for the month. Um you'll notice in the attached document um that will be on our website. It's it's cash flow uh projections match what the forecast is just because uh last meeting I presented the forecast. So next month uh we'll be diving in again and comparing our real data uh to the forecast. So that's uh
the month end of January is attached there. 4.3 we just have three for the month as is described in in my agenda update. Ashlin, we had that purchase order. It's just we happened to close it and the invoice got kind of didn't know where the invoice was so they had to resend it. So we had already closed the purchase order. And then 4.4 is appropriation amended certificate changes for the month. Uh we got uh our ASP schools. We got our final number there and just a few other changes and I matched the general fund budget to the forecast. So, um those were the changes for the month. Please call the vote. >> Julie, >> yes. >> Dan, yes. >> Kim, >> yes. >> Tammy, >> yes. >> Thank you. We are on board reports. virtually. So, yeah, a
lot of stuff. Um, okay. Foundation Tammy and I attended a meeting February 3rd um in 2025. They gave out and I might get this wrong, Tammy, so just jump in. Um, $35,000 in scholarships and $20,000 in teacher grants. That's what I have. Um there is South View is coming up on uh the last Sylvania not South the last Sylvania class uh was in 1976. So this is their 50th year celebration and we're not sure what it's called or if this is connected to it but there is going to be an event at Centennial Terrace um in August uh like yeah I think it's the 50th celebration of of that class and it's for the whole community. Um the we have the hall of fame the well the the academic hall of fame dinner coming up
>> next month >> March 13th. >> March 13. >> Um so if you guys have not RSVP, please do so because those are due. Did I miss anything on that? >> Um the foundation did endorse the levy. >> Oh, it did endorse the levy which we do appreciate. That is great. Um, I think you read somebody lines. Were you there? I'm going to leave it up to see you. Um, that I got an interesting uh email maybe I don't know a few weeks ago from a a board member in um another district who was talking about maybe getting like a a group of board members from area um districts to sort of get together kind of like how superintendents do and they like all exchange ideas. So, I was invited to do that. We had
our first meeting by Zoom. I think like last Sunday it was by Zoom and it was it was really good. There were some board members were there from Rosford, Springfield, TPS, Bowling Green, Parisburg. Um so we we decided we're going to keep it going so one more person can join if anybody's interested. I just thought it was interesting. It's sort of like share ideas um you know like sort of I thought it was a good idea. Interesting to me. This is the first time this has ever come up. So if anybody's interested, let me know. The next meeting is the first Sunday in March. Again, Zoom um at 7:00. So it we were on like an hour to here for like an hour. Nice. >> So if you're interested, let me know. >> Thank you,
>> Dan. Uh had the Sylvania Prevention Alliance meeting. Um things going well there. We had a hot cocoa run on Saturday. It was really cold. Um I was was just off Avenue. Direct team runners had to keep moving so that I didn't get cold. But um it was a it was a great success. They had a lot of turnout. So and then they're getting ready for their 40th anniversary. April 18th. Okay. Um we had a board meeting this month for um Spain Community Services and they did we did vote to take back over after school care. So if you haven't already gotten a call, you'll be getting a call. Um, you know, they asked me it, you know, the schools would support that effort and my response was, "Heck yeah. Anything that's going to lower
costs, I think, or we did it before, we'll do it again type attitude." And also this will right now write at school is not providing snow daycare or um school holiday care like Martin Luther King Day spring break whereas the old program at Spain community services always did the old ET program always had that and parents kind of uh miss that and it's more expensive. So all the good things that it's going back. So they're moving forward on that and we reaching out for collaboration. >> That is exciting. >> Yes. I'm very happy to hear that Tim and I actually met with them a week or so ago and they told us they were venturing down that path and we too said it was something that we could wholeheartedly support. I think right at school
served for a gap measure for a moment in time after co they SCS was challenged at the time we were losing programs at certain schools because of the lack of personnel and lack of enrollment but they are well on their way >> and they have different leadership >> that's what I was going to say that's what makes the difference they have momentum and they are already and it should be shared they already have a lashki program um combined with their preschool at Marshall. Yeah, they're doing the Hill View. >> Yeah. So, it gave them a chance to do kind of like a pilot run to get their feet underneath themselves to make sure they knew what they were doing and if they were ready for it. And so, they're going to expand it to all
of our elementary schools. And I believe, Kim, correct me if I'm wrong, they're starting the summer even with the summer program at Maplewood. So, >> yeah, they're going to start right in the summer. >> More information will be coming out. Community members, parents, keep your eyes out for more information. So, we were equally as excited. Great news. That's all I have. >> Thank you. I don't have anything further. So, we have time in our um agenda that's allocated for public participation for non-aggenda items. Okay. Um um then I move we go into executive session for two purposes. um to consider the employment, dismissal or compensation of a public employee or official and consider the purchase of um property uh real personal tangible or intangible. Second, >> uh Tammy, >> yes. >> Julie, >> yes. >>
Kim, >> yes. I'm being sure you guys love
