001and welcome back to Pine Creek High School tonight the doubleheader the first game about ready to get underway featuring the Liberty Lancers ladies against the Pine Creek Eagles both of these teams have struggled just a little bit Vince Greco alongside Dave Toller tonight Dave Pine Creek averages just 34 points a game the Lancers not much better at 40 that's either good defense or their offenses are still trying to warm up here halfway through the Metro League conference season and you know Vince it could be a little bit of both you talk about Pine Creek you look at that record three and nine but last week they beat rampart they won a conference game their first conference win of the season beat rampart 55 to 32 last Friday so they're feeling a little bit better about
002themselves before the game I had a chance to talk to Liberty Lancers coach Monty Taylor and he said hey they got to find a way to get back to their winning ways they had won five straight games before a loss to Coronado on Saturday night so they've won five of their last six but another team that's playing pretty well in Lee and you see the pine creek eagles starting lineups being introduced to right now one of the things I think about when I think about tonight's game is the Eagles have a little bit more balanced scoring as they get some good scoring from senior Brooklyn Thomas and Sidney's on who's out she's only played four games this year but also Jordan Gutierrez averages almost nine points a game but on the other side as you
003take a look at the Liberty Lancers tonight Pine Creek really has to pay close attention to Lydia Marshall and that's number fourteen right on the left side of your screen right there Lydia Marshall a junior guard averaging 15 points per game she ranks third in the conference in scoring and she does it in a lot of way she can shoot the three she can score inside but she's definitely the key to this Lancers attacked both teams out on the floor Pine Creek wearing their home white trimmed in gray numerals the Liberty Lancers their scarlet red and navy blue trim thanks for being with us on 20 TV as we are underway here at Pine Creek High School first shot of the game is no good rebound pulled down by the Lancers nice zone defense being
004played by Pine Creek and the early going look for some quick ball movement here from the Lancers trying to penetrate that zone it took that one quick shot Vince they got the offensive rebound now you can see a little movement around the perimeter by the Lancers good job of the Eagles not allowing inside the paint area for the Lancers as they try and continue to work that perimeter quick passes here now goes far side back up top the Marshall the answer is being very patient and so are the Eagles right now this feeling on stage they do get it inside and a foul will go against the Pine Creek Eagles first foul of the game goes against number did he say 5510 yep Jordan Gutierrez well Gutierrez was all the way out at the high
005post playing defense she did tip one ball two went to the backcourt force Liberty to reset that offense she went for a second one who got called for the foul now off the inbounds play the Eagles came out in a man-to-man defense while thrown away out-of-bounds good look inside Bailey Adams had it tried to swing it back outside of the wing and just a little too strong goes into the pine creek crowd Lancers will come with a little half-court pressure Gutierrez brings it over to Carlisle dribbles between two Lancers and turns it over quickly Marshall will launch the three high arcing shot is no good and a nice job of boxing out by Carlisle and here come the Eagles the other way reach-in foul called against the Lancers they got Jenna Smith with that foul
006on the reach in and it will be interesting to see if they stick with that half-court trap Liberty does but they force the turnover on the first possession Pine Creek head still no score we played just over a minute here at Pine Creek High School Lancers will match up in a man-to-man defense Pine Creek Creek sends it to the right side Carlisle up top I think des both these teams are kind of feeling each other out here a little bit as they drive to the lane by Highland is no good and it goes out of bounds and it'll stay with the Lancers but again a lot of jitters early here turnovers trying to make that perfect play early on and they had a little bit of space right there going down the lane missed that
007easy layup and there's an easy level hold on the play nice inbound play cold by the Lancers head coach Janine jube ik yelling out instructions right here in front of us gathering her team in front at the free-throw line to shoot two will be jordan gutierrez the sophomore stands in at five nine free throw rattles off the front of the rim and good and that is the first point of the game and it goes to Pine Creek a foul against Liberty called against their senior Bailey Adams her first one more for Gutierrez it's up and nothing but net and here comes some full-court pressure by the Eagles nice job of breaking the press getting the ball to the middle of the floor and now the Lancers set up the offense back up top Marshall kicks
008the right side launched the three off the glass no good missed by cried ermine but the rebound comes off of the foot of a Lancer player and it will go over to Pine Creek well you see Lydia Marshall their leading scorer and everything's gonna run through her at the top of the key she made the pass the shot went up cried Herman the turnover after the rebound I like both of these teams applying a lot of pressure early and so far both of them have broken that full-court press baseline drive by the Eagles they'll kick it back out shot up a little too strong and it'll come back to Gutierrez her shot is up and too strong reach-in foul called against the lanterns in the stay with Pine Creek I believe the foul goes against
009Abbie cried Herman they'll be cry Norman's first foul third of the game for liberty but you look at the way pine creek they had great position you think the defensive team would box out they'd have position but pine creek they sealed everything off underneath they got the rebound and drew the foul Gutierrez as we talked about one of the leading scorers for the Eagles every time she hasn't she square enough to shoot three on the way from number three yes that is Brooklyn Thomas a five six senior and that was a pretty shot Dave a great looking shot one of the leading scorers in the conference leads this Pine Creek team with nine points a game and she picks up three right there Lancers break the press by getting it to the middle of the
010floor Adams drops it inside nice pass to Marshall who can't get the layup to go and then she is fouled by Amelia Carlisle but finally the Lancers get something down in the paint and a good look let's take a look back at that last shot there's Brooklyn Thomas from the corner nothing but net it's her first bucket of the game very confident and a great looking shot at the free-throw line making the first of two is Lydia Marshall averaging over 15 points per contest 83% free-throw shooter on the season no surprise she hit the first one and here comes the pressure by the Lancers quickly the ball comes inbounds Thomas back to Gutierrez both these teams looks like they have practiced breaking that press Thomas was in just about the same spot she knocked down
011the three last possession this time the pass inside goes off the hands of number 13 Brooklyn Highland and she's just a freshman and couldn't control that one turnover Eagles oh you're right Vince I like the pressure both teams are putting on but they may have to back off each team's press breaker has been really good and early in the season you don't often see that but great job of passing not dribbling there's another good job of getting the ball inside Lancers can't get the bucket from three foot out here come the Eagles Milan gives it off to Thomas has the ball over her head spin move at the free-throw line scoop layup no good there's a rebound up in in not in by Amelia Carlisle but a good job of hitting the offensive boards by
012the Eagles early in this game and they drew another foul that's the second foul on Liberty senior Bailey Adams and again just a great job by Pine Creek down low they're getting good looks they're not making them but they're getting those rebounds and drawing fouls there's a look at amelia carlisle karr lyle makes the first free throw doesn't score a lot of points but is very good as you can see on the boards Bailey Adams with two fouls comes out of the game Lowell each comes in for Liberty second free throw rebounded to Pine Creek great job of sliding inside the low post to get that rebound Liberty's going to have to do a better job of boxing out yeah they really will I mean they gotta find it they have to find a body
013and box somebody out there giving up way too many second chance opportunities down the lane nice move Aloha slips had a great chance as Lola Kuhn she just lost her footing but a good inbound play called by Janine Kubek take another look as she just trips right inside that circle the ball goes out of bounds yeah when the foul was called on the play Abbie cried Herrmann is called for her second so a couple of quick fouls for liberty turnover Eagles Lancers want to push the pace here they come Smith kicks it back up top to Marshall she'll direct the offense as the Eagles are back in the zone long three yes nice shot by Jenna Smith the senior and we've got a one-point game that great shot by Jenna Smith her 11 three of
014the season she can shoot it had an open look on the wing Thomas loses the handle we got some substitutions coming into the game for both teams number two for the Lancers that's Kimmy McKinney and wearing the number the numeral zero Riley McMullen a freshman standing in at five six in for the Pine Creek Eagles Lancers looking to take their first lead of the game if they can get a bucket on this possession Marshall in front of the Eagles bench Lancers switch direction quick ball movement little quicker than we saw at the beginning of the game here comes another three on the way this one's short ball poked around and the Lancers do a good job of boxing out and regain control both teams hit in the offensive glass we talked about Pine Creek earlier
015and Liberty having trouble defensively getting rebounds and then we see Liberty on this end getting an offensive rebound three no good now there's a good job of boxing out by Carlisle ball goes out of bounds and it will belong to Pine Creek that's a pretty good sign when you see that ball hit the deck and go out of bounds it's a good job of a good sign when you see everybody boxing their people out nobody available for that rebound and Pine Creek will bring it up and try to beat that press and they do breed it ball goes inside Carlisle is spinning left-hander off the glass and quickly back comes Tahlia Lolich Lancers work in front of the Eagles bench get it down low post Oh ball goes between the legs of a Lancer player

018yeah it really was here's the pass from Brooklyn Thomas looking down low it's tuned for an easy layup but the the assists there by Brooklyn Thomas again from half-court puts it right on the money Eagles up by three under two to play in the first quarter Gutierrez drives baseline and that is a foul good call by the official she got her shoulder and her elbow up into the chest of the Lancer player and that's an offensive foul sure did made it really easy here's a here's a replay Gutierrez comes in lowers the shoulder nice job getting in front sitting her feet on the play that was Sydney Quan for Liberty down on the block gets in position takes that one that's the second foul of the game on Gutierrez kami McKinney running the point for
019the Lancers gets the ball back Eagles still playing that 2-3 zone mckinney switches the court ball launched high-arcing three that is no good by llola ch rebound to the Eagles Carlisle and they want to push the pace in a hurry that's Highland just a freshman bounces at left side and no good there's Carlisle for another rebound but I believe she's going to get called for a shove in the back she's gonna go yeah that's gonna be a penalty a foul called right there and that will be the fourth of the game called on Pine Creek that will be on Olivia Amelia Carlisle her first Bates Parker a sophomore at 5/8 checking in for the Eagles Amelia Carlisle will take a rest with a 122 to go in this first quarter clock has yet to start
020on that inbounds play now it's running nice job at the elbow by the Lancers really quick ball movement on this possession thought about the three and they'll swing it in reverse directions again Lancers have to be careful they were going to get trapped in the corner and then a carrying and call you don't see that too often could have been a carry or could have been a travel but Jenna Smith called for the turnover either way and she was in trouble down there trapped in the corner had nola to go with the basketball and just tried to dribble out of it as she put the ball on the floor with a good job by Pine Creek pressuring all over the floor stutter step and there will be a travel coat against the Eagles that's Lola
021Kuhn called for the travel thought she was going to take it in for the layup and this took one too many steps yeah it looked like she could have put the ball in the floor one more time had some space in front to get a little closer to the hoop instead of looked it up and took that extra step Lancers down by three can't tie it on this possession if they hit a three ball under 40 to go switch it down in the corner lowlich those low post tries to get it back good defense by the Eagles Thomas and then they turn it over and here comes Marshall lob pass inside a bit too strong for Lola goes out of bounds right into the hands of Jason Carter of 20 TV good hands down there
022into the basket and you like the way that Liberty attacked right there they forced the turnover as part of the trap tried to tried to go to in low for the easy layup and just made a pass it was - hi Eagles cannot break the full-court press this time and all knocked out of bounds it'll belong to the Lancers it'll be interesting Dave to see with I guess they're gonna give it to well I thought it was a lantern - it is will be see if they will play for the final shot here with 17 points 6 seconds to go well we've seen their patience on offense they won't move the ball around and we won't know they won't and we rattles in and out now the Eagles have it they're gonna have to hurry

024been Pine Creek with eight terms already Liberty with seven so we'll see which ever team can take care of the basketball no credit both defenses they're putting on great pressure they're picking teams up now the court full court really mix it up that pressure and there's a turnover right off the bat by Liberty well Liberty's doing a great job of finding that player posting up around the elbow but that that positions got to turn square to the basket either make a pass or take the shot have to have to keep that pivot foot on the ground and that's what cost them on the last traveling call answers still coming with full-court pressure they do break it quick passing and then it's turned over it goes out of bounds and it'll stay with Pine Creek but

027in the second quarter no doubt you see both coaches with their white boards talking about how to settle this down breaking that press and being a little more patient with the basketball I think if I'm Coach Taylor on the other side they're good in the looks they want at that high post position they've just got to figure out how to get a player to cut to that basket or they got to make that shot they really do and both teams pressing that's one of the hard things to do in basketball when you break that press it gets a little frantic out there you got to break it and then you have to settle down and both of these teams have gotten into their their offensive sets and then they've turned it over once they break
028the press fans starting to mount here at Pine Creek High School hey what a beautiful gym here at district 20 if they've redone this facility I had kids that went here many years ago and it looks a lot different today Dave got it done a nice job here's our first look at the the remodel and what a beautiful place it is foul called offensively against Lola Kuhn wrapping around with that elbow so we played just about two minutes here in the second quarter and yet to have a basket we have a couple of fouls we have three offensive fouls already in this game by Pine Creek there's Adams a turnaround this time gets it to drop and that's big if they can get that shot to go that's gonna force the Eagles to suck in

030a jump ball and I am not privy to see really the possession arrow I'm assuming now that they are saying it's pine creeks basketball and yes they are as you know that we spend a great deal of time up at the Air Force Academy so as soon as I see that jump all I'm looking for that possession whose ball is it and fall is we're trying to find the error we couldn't find it it will stay with Pine Creek it's their senior Brooklyn Thomas and here comes the pressure once again by the Lancers you don't want to dribble to the corners on the side you want to keep that ball in the middle of the floor and so far tonight the Eagles have done a good job of that all does come across the half-court

032over with us and watch that second free-throw is up in in and for the first time tonight the Lancers are in the lead Eagles working the ball quickly getting it back to that middle of the floor got a hurry now as the clock is ticking they do cross the half-court stripe and we'll set up the offense down in the corner nice near steal by the Lancers Thomas patiently works it back to the top of the key under five to go in the second out Thomas calls out of play asking her Eagle teammates to move and we'll have a three-second violation as soon as I say move that was very stagnant down there David what's going anywhere and the rep saw the same thing you saw Vincent sometimes when you're when you're that patient offensively you
033pull the ball out everybody gets reset and you had a player standing in the lane my answers have it and they want to spread the Eagles out there making them come out and play a man-to-man defense here I like the move David they're trying to figure out that zone and now they're forced and pine creek to come out and play their game I do too and if they can keep hitting that high post if Bailey Adams is still floating right around the the free throw line they've hit her a couple of times they scored a basket earlier in this quarter and moy Liberty just really taking their time this looks like the old four corners off it's taken these days and so coach juvik and Coach Taylor basically looked at so they say we'll play
034this game this is gonna be the fastest quarter in the history of high school basketball oh you're up nine to eight you have a lead yeah Lancers keep moving it back and forth it's a game of chess now who's gonna move first somebody's gonna blink and liberties in no hurry whatsoever nope and they continue to play the perimeter looks like Katie McKinney would like to maybe set up the offense but they'll just keep playing catch up top and Pine Creek not gonna come out and guard him I wouldn't either either you when you're you know 35 feet from the basket a little reason to come all the way out on guard now Lydia Marshall comes up and joins in they get three up top I keep waiting for Gene Hackman to come off the bench
035and Jimmy Chitwood writes hit a big bucket here crowd getting a little bit impatient yeah I can do the crowd booing Lancers are in the lead as you said so they are no hurry now we see some smiles from the Liberty players are playing very relaxed the Eagles coaching staff is telling their team to stay in that zone do not come out and pressure them we can keep talking all night date but I can't remember the last time I was just gonna say that Vincent it's been a long especially this early in the game like right you would see this late in games with the team that's a head that is just trying to protect that lead but protected at one point lead off or early in this game and they're gonna keep doing it
036the crowds getting more restless the officials have their whistle in their mouth but you know this is gonna be the easiest quarter of play they've had now the Liberty crowds getting into it a little bit they're liking what their girls are doing here see you can take a look there we are down to just about two minutes to go in the second quarter you can see the smiles on the faces of a lot of the girls they they know exactly what's going on as well is it safe to say that ends good some minutes to go that Lancers are playing for the last shot of the second quarter I would say so now we're gonna see a little bit more movement as Marshall left her baseline position and came up to the elbow [Applause] we
037are now well over two minutes of the catch and toss game up front by the Lancers I think a lot of the fans in here would be proponents of a shot clock right now because you can you can hear there's a good shot at Monty Taylor that's the Liberty coach telling his team take your time plenty of time left in this one coach Jupitus gave him the dr. evil I look down at the other end 1:20 to go we should have counted the number of passes you know a lot of coaches want to make sure that you get five or six passes before you take a shot this one's 50 well it didn't take a shot they've made up for some of the possessions where they took a good shot they didn't get those five
038passes in so this will balance out the average as the game goes on so if you're in the stands and you're a parent of one of these two teams what are you thinking right now well I'm thinking let's let's get a shot off here and after this hopefully you get a good shot off right let's whenever they decide to get into their offense hopefully they get a good one well here we go we've got 45 seconds to go in the fastest quarter in state of Colorado highschool basketball this year so far down in the corner Lancers have it up top adams tries to get it inside and we've got a foul called against the pine creek eagles we're in a one in one situation so hey it worked for liberty 30 seconds to go and
039they're going to the free-throw line and not only going to the free-throw line but you get your best player going to the free-throw line lydia marshall the junior she's two for two from the line tonight an 83% free-throw shooter on the season she's got two points on the evening Karoline Samarin checks back in for Pine Creek and she's been crouching down in front of our broadcasting table for the last five minutes she's gonna have to get out there first free-throw is up and good the little answers extend their lead to two and Dave I might be wrong here but I don't think the Eagles have scored a point in the second quarter they have not it was 8 to 5 at the end of the first Lancers are up 3 substitution and Jordan Gutierrez checking
040back in for Pine Creek now the Lancers will step it up defensively as they come with the full court press ball does come in Thomas goes back to her left and then goes to the right and we've got a the clock never started it so he's gonna wind it down a little they run a little time off of it and you're going through Pine Creek after that last possession that had to be about three and a half maybe four minutes by by Liberty Pine Creek you get the ball you're not gonna have very many possessions you got to make the ones you have count a great point I think that they held the ball so long did the Lancers that the clock operator forgot to start the clock she was asleep too Gutierrez out front
041good pressure defense from Marshall it's the Lancers now playing that zone they don't want to give up anything inside they're gonna make Pine Creek shoot outside and it goes off of a Lancer player so a good job of defending by Liberty but there are still eight point two seconds to go for Liberty to score Gutierrez is going to go to the free-throw line I believe she's in the act of shooting so both teams exchanging free-throws here late in the second quarter yeah Jordan Gutierrez one of the leading scorers for this pine creek team and she was being held all the way around the screen after she got the balls when they called the foul and here's Gutierrez at the line she gets the first one it rattles around and drops the first point of the

043that second quarter play between these two teams I haven't either they went into a four corners offense and just really slowed everything down that's why we have such a low score at halftime well let's show you all four baskets of the first two quarters in order it started off well for Pine Creek as Brooklyn Thomas knocks down a three and then the other direction it's Jenna Smith with a three pointer so we had some scoring early Kuhn for Pine Creek nice stop and hesitation gets it to go and then one more it's Bailey Adams from the corner and then after that date it was Liberty's version of the five-minute offense they literally connected 50 passes and ran the clock down got a couple of free throws and that's how we came to a close in
