001good evening and welcome inside discovery canyons campus the gym for the Thunder this will be a huge boys basketball game at 4a in the state of Colorado my name is Brian geminus sitting alongside me is Jason Carter and Jason I say it's a huge game because the Luas Palmer Rangers right now are the top-ranked team in the state in 4a yeah the best RPI ranking amongst all the teams like you mentioned and the seventh great team in the entire state of Colorado so certainly a good opportunity for discovery came to see where they stack up against one of the best any time a good team comes into your house you want to show them and remind them that it is your house let's take a look at the tale of the tape so to speak
002and discovery Canyon comes into this game they're a larger team they've got a lot of tall players on their team Jason and as you can see from the school Road though they're gonna be a little bit outnumbered from Lewis Palmer they score they score more points per game they get a few more rebounds per game so this is gonna be a tough battle for the Thunder coming into this one yeah I take a look at that the overall records obviously speak volumes Louis Palmer won their first 13 games this year lost a couple but have since won five more in a row discovery Canyon at ten and nine point difference about a 16 point difference but there wasn't that large of a margin the first two times these these teams met and that was at
003Lewis Palmer so we'll see if the home crowd makes a difference tonight both teams before a Pikes Peak League Lewis Palmer comes in at 10 and one in first place discovery Canyon in fifth place at five and six we'll see if the Thunder can make a move up the standings when we come back with this one you're watching boys high school basketball on 20 TV you [Applause] you [Music] welcome back into side discovery kami high school Brian German alongside Jason Carter just about to get that on the court both of these teams starting lineups have been announced we'll get to those in a minute I also want to welcome a third member of our broadcast crew tonight Andy hyo is the president of the colorado springs basketball officials association so anytime we see a questionable
004call we're coming to you Andy all right thanks for having me here I appreciate it no we're not going to talk about that we're going to talk about other things and the officials always in need of more officials and they do an outstanding job here in Colorado Springs we'll talk a little bit more about that throughout the game the starting lineups for the Louis Palmer Rangers Joel Scott Salim Nam a Carter Kreischer no Ibaka and Matt Ragsdale of her discovery cami Lilly Riley Marshall Seth Clausen Caleb Greta Lucian Zac Anderson and Caleb Blackburn and as you can see some of that height for Discovery Canyon a lot of teams can't play with the height of Luis Palmer and the tip by Scott goes right into Marshall's hands and discovery Canyon will take that possession to
005open this game up Marshall in the corner Blackburn trying to post up inside they get it to him off the glass won't go gets his own rebound this one is good discovery Canyon that's a good strike for them vision yeah you mentioned the heighth and that worked out perfectly they went right inside went to their big man who got his own board and put it back up the first to belong to the Thunder now we'll see how they do so far playing a man-to-man this is Joel Scott the leading scorer and much talked-about guard for Louis Palmer as we mentioned they're the top team in 4a coming into this game we'll only lost twice on the season only once in league Scott working on Anderson hole up can't get it to go and that's a
006good job by the king of discovery Canyon giving him just one shot yeah great defense stood his ground didn't go up didn't foul and Scott just missed a short little shot unfortunately ragsdale can't connect with Marshall the ball goes out of bounds it will go back over to the Rangers Selim and Nam a brings it up [Applause] outside open shot for Ragsdale can't get it to go again marshal only gives him one shot if the Thunder can do that all night long they're gonna be in this basketball game they're gonna need everybody to crash the boards and stay throw the second straight time that goes out of bounds for the Thunder if they do that all night they won't be in the best bouquet no Ibaka brings it up this time for Louis Palmer discovery
007came you're really concentrating on that man-to-man defense now male bring it back out top when they've cut us inside for the Rangers get it down Scott he goes up over Anderson this time it's good great leader there by Scott took the contact and still got the shot up big man dribbling the ball up the court this time at 6'5 Seth Clawson don't look it out inside this one Anderson nice entry pass again to Zac Anderson again tough leaders both teams make it a little more difficult on themselves and they probably have to that low but they've made him early nice poke there right there by a row dilution Caleb grit Ellucian the tough defensive player on this team he's the guy that does everything if you're looking for a guy on the Thunder to get
008you anything Caleb bro dilution is your guy up top Baca brain just moving the ball well coming inside and back out then on it let's crossover dribble spin move can't get it to go revolution couldn't come down with it the Clausen can on the run gets it to Marshall a little bit of it bounce pass there to him and inside they keep looking inside Anderson could shoot from out there as well can't get it to go nice box out a good job by Ragsdale to come around with that one former Rangers both these teams playing pretty good disciplined basketball so far in this first quarter Scott trying to turn on Anderson goes up and that'll be our first foul of the game as he forces Anderson to follow Scott just so strong down there he
009got slapped across the wrist and still got up a pretty good shot that almost went in for him so Scott will be shooting - trying to tie this game back up 71% free-throw shooter for Joel Scott got the first one more times than not he makes two no that's not true trying to figure out the percentages I was never good at math he made it both we're tied at four here comes Seth Clausen to Marshall on the outside [Music] discovery Canyon playing their offense way outside now Anderson will drive on Scott as they did get some open space inside won't get it to go Blackburn rebound up and in handle Blackburn nicely done that's the second time he's at the offensive boards and been able to come away with some extra points six for now
010Namie on the outside gets a screen from Kreischer and moves around it's got almost open on the inside Baca now tries to get the entry pass in there good job at the Thunder closing that one get it quickly after Anderson try to get it up couldn't get it there and a nice offensive rebound again by Seth Clausen third that time for the Thunder crashing the offensive boards well they've got six of their eight points off offensive rebounds Scott back up top gets it to Nami and moving it around good man-to-man defense so far by the Thunder and leave Ragsdale open he'll shoot not on tonight but Scott right there for the rebound puts it back and in Joel Scott a good offensive rebound and he now has six points just like that he'll go for
011one more nicely done by the junior check out the leaping ability and then takes the contact and the gets the friendly shooter bounce on the visiting rims Andy what you see on that that's a good call you know when they spin away they can get away from some of our officials but usually what we try to have as anything on inside the basket you want to have two sets of eyes on it and Mike made a good call there eight seven now grow dilution driving he'll go in for the easy layup Caleb grow dilution yeah when you don't play defense move around nama gets a screen now doubles it inside Scott knocked away a good job by Baca to get it back to rags yel up and in nice hustle there from Louis Palmer on
012the loose ball with the Thunder did a great job at double-teaming Scott on that inbound on that pass inside 10 9 we're gonna stay right here and I'm gonna talk to our resident official again Andy he oh the president the Colorado Springs basketball officials Association and Andy do usually when we talk about basketball teams getting together and start in a game they're kind of feeling each other out do refs have to feel the game too it's hard for the players to get into any type of rhythm so you know we're looking for things that make the game better we don't try to interrupt it we make calls if there's obvious things that need to be called but we need to get to a flow as well and that'll help the game all the way through
013to the fourth quarter we mentioned Lewis Palmer 18 and 2 coming into this game and DCCC 10 and 9 Jason the Thunder doing what they have to do to stay in this ball game so far when they did that the first time around 2 they were within three after the first quarter and actually outscored Lewis Palmer by 11 in the third quarter the first time these two teams played so they know that they can play with the Rangers Marshall brings it up top inside Anderson playing with a couple of files now excuse me they called it on grill dilution last time here's the Anderson up top go dilution nice entry pass black room looks like they could do that all night long yeah they certainly seem to have an advantage even in there even though
014Luis plumbers got plenty of kids listed six five or taller so far the inside game is belong to Discovery Canyon Namas Anderson steps out on and get it to Scott coach Campbell speaking with the officials right now about something he saw out there there's Baca had it knocked away momentarily gets it back he'll drive in on Clawson put it up nice block by Seth Clausen and here comes discovery can you get it to Blackburn down low and there's going to be a call to be made and they call the charge Andy I'm going to ask for your expert opinion on this if we get a repo [Music] guarding position protects Scott's got it you've got the took it in the chest if both players go in the same direction probably an offensive foul thanks for
015that it's explanation back to live action Scott Namie fakes it Riley right there with him and Ragsdale with throw dilution hanging on him Rangers get it out to Scott he wants that three and he could shoot it from there and he does so Scott's got nine points so far nine of the twelve for Lewis Ballmer now a little bit of pressure from the Rangers three-quarter court broken by the Thunder up top to Clausen so come down to Anderson nice spin move tries to go up with it Scott comes away with that ball and loses it out of bounds so it'll remain with the Thunder good help side defense there from Scott to come over and just get in the way of the discovery Canyon player and force him to run an inbounds play Marshall with
016the inbounds gets it inside try to get it to Clausen which is exactly where coach Campbell wanted it he's about two feet from us and told him exactly who to throw it to Marshall again oh this time try to get the black where no one on the outside will go out of bounds that's a third turnover for the Thunder so far today and just three passes that should have been caught I mean now when should have been picked off and the other two just went off the hands of players so if they can clean up those mistakes that would be yes I would work in their favor 12:12 Anderson pokes it away comes back and picked up by Kreischer good job by the official recognizing that was not and over in the back it was
017tipped by Anderson nice just give him points 11 and I mean he just wave baseline took a step and went up that's pretty impressive you won't see that a ton at the high school level no discovery Canyon coming back the other way nice in side pass again to Black Rock hila Blackburn has eight now for Discovery candy as we come down to the final minute of the first quarter get it down to Scott once to go on Anderson backs him down takes it inside nice job working inside out right there Clawson batting this one around Marshall can't handle it knocked away by grote illusion and here comes the Thunder Road Aleutians gonna take it all away himself can't get it to go tough one there good hustle just started his approach to the basket maybe
018a step too far away and he just laid it off the side of the rim Bach is holding it out here it looks like coach bill Benton and company want one shot to close out this first quarter at the game tied at 14 they'll set it up top Kreischer to Ragsdale Ragsdale with Road Ellucian on him the count has started I'm not sure Ragsdale realizes that but he does get rid of the ball back now to cry shirt and Baca they'll swing it around runs inside eight seconds now here comes Ragsdale [Applause] - Scott they got him the ball with just a few seconds left he puts it up won't go Anderson with the rebound he didn't get that off in time it wouldn't be counted but a good job defensively there to end the
019quarter will be back we're tied at 14 after one at discovery Canyon discovery Canyon 14 Louis Palmer 14 back with more after this on 20 TV you every Canyon so far it's been Caleb Blackburn who's been doing the job for the Thunder he's got eight of their 14 points we are tied at 14 and a great job so far for discovery Canyon getting it inside of the big man yeah and he's got that nice little hook shot off the glass down he said it a couple times already we'll see if he can continue to do that Ragsdale of top gets it to Baca try to get it Scott nice catch one-handed stolen away by Marshall here comes Riley Marshall all by himself and a deuce and again discovery Canyon back in the lead great defense
020there by discovery candy it turns into two easy points back inside now back in the game Trey McCulloch another steal here comes Marshall again nice back pass to Anderson he thought about Duncan it took the easy two instead now it's a four-point lead quickly back the other way here come the Rangers and Joel Scott bodied up by Seth Clausen puts it up can't get it Blackburn with the rebound this is a good start to this quarter for discovery Canyon their shots have been easy booze Palmer shots have all been contested Scott's had to go up with hands in his face the entire time as we get a foul that foul is gonna be called on Trey McCulloch his first foul is the six seven Junior Center Ford just checked into the game to start this
021quarter inside Blackburn it's a de Clausen almost lost it they'll keep Anderson and Blackburn out a double high post flossing gonna bring it around the baseline shot up can't get it to go rebound good box-out by everyone on Louis Palmer Ragsdale run the court tries to go ahead as soon with the block and he taps it right to court Ellucian look out here come the Thunder nice job for Caleb revolution Oh can't get it to go Clausen had the rebound grow dilutional run it down in the corner yeah we got another foul the second straight on Trey McCulloch for Lewis Palmer and this crowd is coming alive at Discovery King great defense has led to some easy buckets they didn't score that signed ECC but they've come away with blocks and steals here to take
022a look nice timing they're on the defensive end leads to a fast break great job for the Thunder back to live action now Seth Clawson with the ball up top being guarded by Ragsdale gets it down to Marshall in the corner he's got a Anderson inside instead comes back up top to Blackburn there's two posts doing a great job so far for discovery Canyon Blackburn gets his own rebound what's been up and in again that's the third time he's done that tonight nicely done I mean he's got that off glass he loves that shot and he's so tall and leaves the ball up so high a lot of guys will bring it up from their chest but he leaves it up high the entire time now made his Scott Scott will take that three-point shot
023not contested at all this one goes off and Lauren Phillips and discovery Canyon gets that rebound Marshall up top coach once played 21 k-dubb row dilution inside Anderson and he's fouled again this one's gonna be on Baca no Ibaka here's another look great feed there from crota Lucian inside and Hakka almost got it to go up on the other side of the rim just left it a little short it's great feed though from crota Lucien Anderson this is the first Zach Anderson is six-six jr. for this Thunder program now checking into the game Jackson Smith a sophomore guard for the Thunder also back in the game is Carter Kreischer for Lewis Palmer second one got it for Anderson 2114 the Thunder up by a touchdown out front there's now a thought about the three Marshall
024got out there quickly they'll go inside nice pick a Blackburn not sure where nami was passing that one he expected Blackburn to go with the guy underneath in Blackburn stayed and he just threw it right to him Oh almost a steal by baka goes out of bounds the official asks for help that's a good job there Randy Wright yeah I mean it's a humble profession well that's a good job to go ahead and ask for help yeah you try not to make things up yep inside down to Jackson Smith Marshall in the corner he'll take a shot from there got it Riley Marshall 23 14 sorry Jason no that's alright discovery candy and shooting 56% from the field [Applause] now down to Kreischer in the corner for lewis palmer nam it works against Marshall Ragsdale
025came from out of bounds in gets the bucket two more points from a track still they've held him to four so far he's the second leading scorer on this ranger team Smith gets it to grow dilution back to Anderson nice job inside Blackburn handles it I'm puttin Caleb Blackburn is having tonight capacity from discovery candy truly has been great I mean the speeds inside couldn't have been any more perfect now driving down the lane and up and no baka whistle was on the floor and that foul is gonna be on Jackson Smith let's take another look great take here by baka just crossed him up got right into the lane Shea got him a little before he put the shot up so they'll take it out on the nead Joel Scots will do the inbounding
026for the Rangers for 22 left second quarter and a quick moving game well played basketball games so far Ethan Forrester now into the game for the Rangers looks inside had Baca I didn't want to get its own now Scott keeps it up top and another foul called inside collective groan from the Thunder fans yeah it's Smith was just trailing that runner just a little bit too much he had to reach around and got a little bit more skin than the official would have liked two fouls now in Jackson Smith they might have to get him out of the game he did not start more of a defensive presence out there with grow dilution and Marshall up top Baca inside ismooth Blackburn to use him up in revolution with the steel gets it to Smith and
027the Thunder are back in business up nine Rhoda Lucien Blackburn thought about the three now who get a screen from Anderson nice pick-and-roll outside quickly Jackson Smith can't get it to go follows and not sure who that went off of goes off of Smith and Rangers ball good hustle from Smith on that missed though he almost got it knocked off the lowest Palmer player Baca across the court to Ragsdale and in the corner Forrester Joel Rangers being very deliberate here down nine three minutes left nice backdoor cut to Ragsdale he works on Smith who didn't want to get his third foul and gets an easy bucket certainly worked in Lewis Palmer's favor when he got that close to the bucket like you said didn't wanted to get that third foul so he gave Ragsdale pretty
028easy shot go dilution had Blackburn didn't give it to him now Anderson up top of Scott on him he'll try put it up Blackburn trying to get another offensive rebound you're gonna say it was knocked out of his hands it'll stay with the Thunder came the Blackbird man talk about a first half 12 points four boards all offensive 6 of 8 from the field lot of talent on this Thunder team trying to move up from that fifth place spot right now in the Pikes Peak League Blackburn I Smith he's got first two of the game for Jackson Smith and it's back to nine points for the Thunder [Applause] Forster inside goes up and there's a foul called against Blackburn who couldn't keep his balance there and ran right into Carter Kreischer that's the second on
029Blackburn on the inside so let's see if they keep him out there or take him out he's really put together a great first half if you can do without him for two minutes and 27 seconds you'd feel a lot better and they're gonna bring him out and come Seth Clausen and the Thunder fans give Caleb Blackburn a nice round of applause so Kreischer one shot won't go and it's rebounded by Clausen Jackson Smith back up top to run the offense they're starting it way outside almost pulled his pivot foot still has it toss it on the right now the Thunder being a little more deliberate and the range of defense is pressing right up on it Jackson Smith loses the basketball Forrester comes up with it and off come the Rangers Baca running puts it
030up can't get it to go Zack Anderson pushes it forward Center faucet he'll push it it on Joel Scott got it they're gonna call a foul on Scott what a move by Seth Clausen yeah probably not a smart play on Scott because he was trying to play the entire time had tried to pull out LeBron James and just couldn't come away with the block good job by Seth Foss and keeping that out of his reach there as well and that's the first foul on Joel Scott so Clausen with one shot to give him an uneven five on the night ten point lead now for the Thunder here comes baka price you're holding it for a very long time waited for Joel Scott inside they finally get it to him knocked away by Anderson Errol dilution
031can't handle it Scott good presence of mine to keep that basketball get it to joel again anderson doing a good job on joel skyping scott tonight despite the many the many points that he has and they force another turnover by the Rangers well this second quarter he's got zero points he had 11 in the first and he's still with 11 with a minute and a half left here in quarter number two [Applause] and the discovery Canyon coaches Paul Campbell included something has seen what to do taking their tongan across the time line get it set Clausen he'll come inside no Paul there gets his own rebound and now it comes down to Chrysler and the Rangers will come back try and cut this inside of ten Forster on the left wing download a Ragsdale and
032they'll get groped Ellucian there that'll be his second now put us in the bonus one and one for Luis Palmer and into the game for discovery Canyon comes chase Rodgers a six six seniors Center and Caleb Gro dilution will get a rest the interesting to see now if Luis Palmer tries to hurry things up and score a few more points here first shot good for Ragsdale shot number two got it [Music] make it 8 for Ragsdale and the press again on for the Rangers nobody cut in middle for the Thunder so far Anderson's set up there but they'll go deep to chase Rodgers here's Anderson for three oh he was feeling it couldn't get it to go and they're gonna call chase Rodgers of the fouls he got the face of Joel Scott yeah Scott
033had position and Rogers came flying in from the other side see Scott's like checking its nose as we take another look good effort there by Rodgers but he definitely got an elbow across Scott's face so Joel Scott and the Rangers can score again with the clock not moving here 44 point nine seconds left in the second quarter [Applause] [Music] I'll tell you what if the Rangers do eventually go on and get get into that state tournament there's gonna be plenty of situations like this where they're just gonna have to step up make timely free-throws play good defense and get back into ball games and this is an experienced team I mean they're not only ranked number one but they're coming off of state finals appearance last year so a lot of these kids have that
034experience in those situations six point game now the Thunder push it up Clawson try to get it to Rogers knocked out of bounds by Baca and it'll be discovery Canyon ball Riley Marshall two in Bounce Thunder players moving everywhere they get it deep inside Clawson works on him there couldn't get it to go Ragsdale with a rebound back coming the Rangers down six Baco run the offense up top over the Forster didn't want the three steps inside takes a shot air ball rebound inside Ragsdale Ragsdale can't get it to go he's gonna get a foul Seth Clausen one of the three captains on this discovery Canyon teen gets his first foul Rag so you see there eight points and four rebounds he was a problem for discovery Canyon in their first matchup he had 20
035points in that game that newest bomber ended up winning by 9 back in January and you hate to see this the last five make it six points from the line for the Rangers and Paul Campbell's gonna take a timeout what do you think is telling his team Jason 16 seconds left in the second quarter he's smart with the ball they've had a couple of times where they've gone to make passes and either haven't come up with it or a hand has been there maybe not the best pass selection in here with 16 seconds left there's no need to really rush you've got plenty of time to set up a play get into it and see if you can get a good shot and I'm sure maybe something being said about that ten-point lead being whittled
036down to four so tough when you give it team the opportunity to score with no time on the clock and you're gonna convince me Andy that the the officials are not getting Louis Palmer back into this game you see a little bit of a disparity on the scoreboard but I think you have to take a look at the disparity of how or the difference between how the team's attack the basket who's palmer is you know attacking driving you know discovery cans kind of doing an inside thing but they're making very clean shots so there's not much decisions to be made over there good insight thank you sir Zack Anderson inside the final ten seconds down to chase Rogers almost loss at Anderson gets it back four seconds three looks like he's going to take it
037himself puts it up and gets it a closes out the half or discovery came in with a huge basket 32 to 26 everybody wants to give him a pat on the back discovery Canyon with a six-point lead we'll be back with a halftime show right after this on twenty TV you welcome back inside Discovery Canyon high school Brian German alongside Jason Carter and and EEO and we saw a great first half Jason yeah both teams made some pretty good runs discovery Canyon man they did just about everything right through the first I would say 16 minutes 15 minutes of this game until Louis Palmer started hitting some free throws at the end to take a look Joel Scott really the go-to especially in that first quarter always has been for the Rangers he and Ragsdale
038go to score most their points he ended up at 14 in the first half but then discovery Kenya did have some good defense there's Marshall with a steal taking it in the next time down he gets it over to Zach Anderson for the easy bucket and then it was all about Caleb Blackburn inside yeah 12 point 6 of 8 shooting for Blackburn 4 rebounds all of them offense and always ended up in a couple of extra points that hook he just keeps it so high which is so great because so many kids will bring it down when they get the ball and he does not do that look at the numbers discovery Canyon well out shooting Lewis Palmer that might be the difference in the game yeah we've only got one three-pointer made between the
039two teams so they're one at 7 combined but discovery Canyon shooting 15 to 29 it's almost 52% and that's easy to do when you're only a foot or two away from the basket and you've got Blackburn who's got that hook down another big line on there the rebounds discovery Canyon with 18 of them and plenty of them coming on the offensive end yeah they've got three players who have four rebounds so everybody is crashing the boards and you could see that was one of their point of emphasis early on is they gave Louis Palmer only one shot on most possessions it's been a fun one so far we'll be back with second-half action discovery Canyon up by six welcome back for the third quarter after this on 20 TV you just about to start the
040second half at Discovery Canyon the Thunder with a six-point lead over the rangers of Louis Palmer talking with Andy he oh the president of Colorado Springs basketball officials Association and so far pretty clean basketball game Andy yeah these are the ones that you like to officiate because the players are just plain right they don't look at you for calls they're getting to the basket they're making the moves there's contact but it's that's part of basketball right it's not a legal contact and that's what we're here for is a legal contact well with two big teams I think you can expect it to be maybe a little more physical than a regular basketball game second hop is when the adjustments happen so I would anticipate a little more intensity and that's something we have to account
041for as well we make adjustments at halftime as well Zach Anderson gets the first basket for discovery Kenya get the last basket to get him into the half and now he's given him an eight-point lead when it had been cut to four Rangers way outside can get it to go they get the offensive rebound though rare offensive rebound for the Rangers Baca down low Ragsdale puts it up at in rags Hills got a nice little touch there he's thrown up a couple just kind of little floater since he's got 12 we mentioned second leading scorer on this little smaller team inside Blackburn up it in Kayla Blackburn and maybe coach Benton and company didn't come up with an answer for Blackburn down low yeah he's 7 to 9 14 points that's gonna be hard because
042he seems to be doing everything right nom a inside on Clausen steps out of there gets the ball to Ragsdale now Joel Scott thought about it knocked away by Anderson quick hands by the big man he's on the side I'm going to slow it down he'll get to the set Clausen who the easy layup and it's a 10-point game again for the Thunder haha Anderson's playing out of his mind the first tube buck last two buckets and then the steal and a great feed there is six-six jr. trying to show up he's 6 6 junior for Lewis Palmer who has the ball Joel Scott he'll go baseline goes inside and they're gonna get Anderson with the call there may be an explanation from Andy he Oh was what we'd like to see now cuz I'm
043just hearing the crowd and how they reacted obviously they hate every time you blow the whistle right at the moment right if he's violating the mr. Scott's vertical plane there then we have a legal contact that would probably be a file so Scott to the line misses the first gets the second one Zach Anderson doing a good job so far he only has two fouls dn up Joel Scott the entire game so far Boston gets it to Marshall that across the time line back across clawsome he'll take the three can't get it to go inside Anderson tips it out but the Rangers come away with it Ragsdale working on Clausen bumps him they're gonna call it Ragsdale with the bucket and a foul he's got 14 great take there by Ragsdale I mean he took
044the contact perfectly as we take another look he went looking for it kept the ball away from the defender to make sure he could get it up nothing Annette Ragsdale again got it and that 10-point lead is now to cut to 6 I was a great call guess Clawson was moving Marshall back across knocked out by Scott it'll stay with discovery Canyon discovery canyons done a great job on the defensive end they let six steals in a couple of blocks but they're gonna have to find an answer for either Scott or Ragsdale because those two have 30 of both farmers 32 points in this game Anderson comes inside they're gonna call a charge on Anderson for his third foul of the game that's a tough one for the Thunder let's look at it again Andy
045maybe talk us through this oh here what's the defender allowed to do right work in the defender go defender can go laterally and move backwards and they what we see is that the thundercats the common misconceptions that the defender has to be stationary he's moving backwards there's contact that's offensive foul he's gaining an advantage from that if we don't call that thank you for that explanation again nice having you here Andy there's a shot outside Ragsdale can't get it to go rebound grow dilution and the Thunder will try and build back up that lead build that lead back up case there's an English teacher watching Marshall inside Blackburn thinks about it goes up little hook shot can't get it to go rebound by Nami the rain just pushing it up looked at Baca didn't want
046to get him the ball now it comes down the lane puts it up ill-advised shot maybe for Nami back to throw dilution long pass over to Blackburn and they'll swing this ball around Blackburn has a huge size advantage inside on the interesting to see if discovery candy takes advantage Thunder will just swing it around grow dilution working on Joel Scott he'll bring it inside put it off the glass won't go Blackburn over the back of Joel Scott and he put your post player in a bad position there I mean the defender on the six-foot-seven Blackburn was only about six feet tall and then he just put him in a bad position great box out there by Scott to get Blackburn coming over the back so three fouls now on Anderson and Blackburn for discovery Tammy
047and coach Campbell's gotta work good job for Scott Blackburn didn't want to get his fourth foul great spin moved there by Scott in the drop step just a little bit too quick even if Blackburn didn't have it's three fouls that was a great move 17 now for Scott three in the second half Jackson Smith in the corner this is Riley Marshall shut up just misses it Blackburn can't get it again weary of that possible fourth foul chase Rodgers set to come in for the Thunder down the lane up won't go go dilution good job at the box out comes up he's got Marshall with him in Blackburn on the right he'll take it up Blackburn offensive board puts it up and in Kayla Blackburn again timeout discovery King in let's sit right here and talk
048about this 42:34 tough foul trouble now for the Thunder yeah they've got two of their stars Blackburn and grow dilution both excuse me Anderson in Blackburn both with three fouls to take a look here Blackburn great job following the play getting yet another offensive rebound and two more points he's got 16 as he continues to use that class you don't see a lot of kids nowadays go glass use that that box is there for a reason and a lot of kids don't use it but Anderson's to earn Blackburn said a great job Blackburn and Anderson have really been the catalyst for this Thunder team they're also playing great defense so far and I'm sure coach Campbell's reminding all the players of the three fouls he is sitting down Anderson and Blackburn right now so the
049Thunder this is a key point in this game 358 left third quarter they want to stay in this game with Blackburn and Anderson on the bench and then we'll see how they do that is those two have 25 of the team's 40 points so there are a couple other scores out on the floor but your two big ones are currently riding the pine now maybe this is Joel Scott cut off nicely by the Thunder defense they'll get it outside Kreischer can't go zaxon Jackson Smith with a rebound pushes it forward and the Thunder will set it up I would be surprised if coach Campbell wants him to slow it down a little bit with both of his leading scorers out of the game then get through this last three minutes or so and still hold
050this lead great feed inside nice cut for Seth Clausen inside nice pass from Marshall Boston couldn't finish but he does get the foul and that's what our official Andy heõs talking about you know most of the time the Thunder have been getting uncontested shots this time it's contested that's why they get a foul he was wide open underneath though when he took that initial pass if he had just turn around and gone straight up he would have had it in easy to misses the first second shot coming for Seth Lawson you see his line misses the second - tough misses Kreischer with the rebound and here comes the Rangers discovery Canyon just 2 of 5 from the line in this game Luis Palmer 11 of 13 so 9 point difference there nam a hits a
0513 is first 3 points of the game the senior guard averages seven and a half a game gets his first three here in the third quarter row dilution steps inside got it to go Caleb grote Ellucian has four nice move micro dilution this kind of made one quick move and they went straight up comes Ragsdale and Vaca drives into the lane down low Granger's moving that ball around now Joel Scott I soaked with Clausen Hill's turn shot up and I gonna call the foul on Seth Lawson great upper-body strength there by Joel Scott as he took contact and still went moving forward and just got again a soft touch off the rim good call right Andy yep I saw contact on the off hand but violating again is vertical space and the free throw is
052good the three-point play for Joel Scott and suddenly it's a two-point game and Scott's got 20 here he had a very quiet second quarter but he's come out here in the 3rd and really turned it back up knocks the ball away here and gets it back runs it to Ragsdale Ragsdale throws it up won't go Scott with the rebound and putback make it 22 for Joel Scott and we're tied up for the first time in a long time Lewis Palmer has really turned up the intensity here through the first half of the third quarter download grow dilution coach Campbell has seen enough he wants to get Zach Anderson back in there to D up Scott and Lewis Palmer's have gone into a 2-3 zone and what they were playing a lot of man-to-man but they'd
053switched it up into a 2-3 zone now foul called on no Ibaka his second and Zach Anderson there you see the big man coming back in he will come inside from chase Rodgers grow dilution inbounds the ball underneath gets it in to Anderson right away and the Thunder will work the offense Anderson sets up at the high post nice job down to grow dilution couldn't finish inside he gets his own rebound he's going to go back up inside no fouls called and they're going to get Jackson Smith for a reach-in coach Campbell is being watched closely by the official all campus hot Andy I don't want to ask about the call I want to ask what you do as an official when a coach is heated you know it's a tough part of the game
054do you give them a little bit of slack how long before you call them with the technical game they're trying to protect their team and get extra possessions so we understand that in that case they're you know it's a tough call this year we've been able to implement a new rule across the state where we can give coaches a bench warning we don't necessarily have to go straight to a technical foul now and that's helped the game a lot that's nice couple of steals for each team while we're away here Zach Anderson knocked it out of bounds it'll be Rangers ball and again they're watching Paul Campbell yeah on that call there you know certainly we're trying to officiate contact but that's that includes the offensive player well as well you know offensive players tend
055to try and generate contact if they can be illegally Ragsdale now up top Lewis Palmer had a chance to take the first lead of the game up and no good for Ethan Forrester but he will have a chance to give him the lead from the foul on gray work down low by Lewis Palmer they had a couple guys crashing the boards their enforcer went straight back up he didn't take too much time after he grabbed that rebound Jackson Smith now has four fouls [Applause] and Ethan Forster goes to the line got the first one Lewis Palmer's first lead of the game that's foresters first point of the game is Luth Palmer now 13 of 15 from the line and coach Campbell decides to keep Jackson Smith in the game with those four fouls he did
056not start this game but he has played most of it sophomore guard from the cornered revolution grabs that one out of the air now Smith up top looks like the Thunder may be playing for the last shot here in the third quarter Smith is they work against that Rangers own cuts it inside and gets a call that's what you got to do against its own you either got to get somebody who can get in there and kick it out to a wide-open three or you got to move the ball quickly and discovery Canyon just wasn't moving it around the arc quickly enough so he went into the middle that foul called on no Ibaka that's his fourth so Baca in trouble as well as Smith throw the Lucien way outside of Marshall and they'll play
057catch on the right side Anderson up top good job by coach Benton going to this zone but they do get it inside to Anderson I'll kick it out Marshall nice ball movement still 14 seconds DCCC taking their time anderson turns into scott they're gonna call a held ball that's gonna go to the Rangers nicely done by Scott to get all ball cuz he saw Anderson and just bear hug the ball as he turned right into her 4442 Lewis Palmer Jackson Smith on Nami Nami brings it up they're out front but three seconds not sure if anybody recognizes it get it in the corner Forster shot up won't go and that's the way we end three-quarters Lewis Palmer's come back and taken the lead out scoring the Thunder by eight in that quarter but the big
058man Caleb Blackburn will be coming back we'll be back with the fourth quarter after this on twenty TV [Music] you back inside discovery Canyon there's a look at coach Paul Campbell who was addressing his team he's got a couple players in foul trouble actually three one with four and two with three but he's going back to Kayla Blackburn who's having a heck of a night and Zach Anderson they both have three fouls and Paul Campbell's getting a little heated right now he's fairly calms the Thunder have the ball down to Clawson Blackburn he'll shoot the three can't get it to go rebound on the backside good job I go dilution comes right back inside Anderson puts it up and I gonna call him for an offensive foul I'm assuming coach Campbell won't like that keep
059our eye on that situation here's another look at it Scott moved to go over it just it looked like at the last second and picked up yet another charge that's at least a third that he's picked up in this game let's talk to Annie he'll Andy you talked to us up the misconception that the defensive player can't be moving he can be moving laterally or backward is what you said correct I mean my guess is most fans and most coaches don't understand that especially fans but do coaches get a learning do you guys go with coaches show them yeah so before the season starts all coaches are required to attend the rules meeting certainly we talk about plays that are difficult block charge that's where we make a lot of our money the really good
060refs know how to officiate block charge traveling troubling - tough call these kids are starting to be better athletes they can make certain moves that you know live it's hard for us to find a travel but when we watch it on tape like wow we missed that call right Carter Kreischer now back in the corner - black Bernie hits the three Caleb Blackburn having one heck of a night for the Thunder 19 points for a Blackburn including the team's first three-pointer tonight Konami which gives them back that one-point lead outside Forrester Forrester working on goes inside and he will get fouled lots of contact in there by grow dilution but they're gonna call it on Seth Clausen put a collar on either guy really second foul on Clawson and Forrester goes to the line again
061that's four on go dilution four on Seth Clausen lots of players in foul trouble for the Thunder now Forrester misses that one and he'll have a chance to tie it up yeah Clausen Smith and Anderson all with four fouls Blackburn still has his three he misses full revolution with the rebound Thunder need to do something on the offensive end now up the lead Marshall back to grow dilution gets it across the time line in the corner and here comes Clawson up top sometimes as a coach you just want to play those guys until they foul out here's Anderson inside can't get it to go nice rebound by Blackburn out top Anderson wants it can't go rebound the kaguro dilution trying to get it nam a comes back with it Rangers trying to get that lead
062back they've had him they've had it once tonight Ragsdale working on grow dilution puts it up and in Matt Ragsdale and we've got a timeout by Lewis Palmer's coach Benton takes that one and Jason some people might be asking why it's timeout right there you just made just made a basket he's gonna make a change here or something yeah he's probably I don't see anybody here at the table but he saw something that maybe he didn't like and you can see him talking to his team about whatever that is to make sure that they get the memo here on the defensive end I think for Lewis Palmer the change really going to the villain of his own defense here in the second half has really helped them out defensively yeah discovery canyons only hit that
063one three-pointer which Blackburn just hit here in the corner just a minute ago so they haven't been able to break up his own from the outside and when they've gone in Lewis Palmer has really done a great job of crashing and double teaming and not picking up too many fouls as they only have four here in the second half and Andy from your officials viewpoint you know Louis Palmer and any team in his zone you're gonna be in better defensive position to start with anyway usually right we can't sit back and watch because teams should still be attacking to try to penetrate the zone you know lose Palmer like we said at the beginning of game they got a lot of links and they create a lot of deflections and that creates a lot of
064problems for us with deflections because we get these type of plays here black room with the miss his ball knocked around a lot girl Lucian's trying to get it backwards got it now they're gonna call a hail ball but coach Paul Campbell wanted and I think coach Campbell got the hint to calm down a little bit he's dead he's been less wordy here in the fourth quarter it's a poor time to coach your team now may over to Forrester and back to Nami [Applause] and work it inside they're gonna call it offensive foul against Carter crusher great job there from Riley Marshalls he just stood his ground and took the shoulder from a much bigger player yeah it looks like he extended his arm a little bit to there kind of threw up the elbow
065into the chest back to Clausen and marshal discovery Canyon there's a ball knocked away by Forester into the backcourt class and got it back move it over the blackburn he's been shooting that he got it this time Caleb Blackburn Blackburn the only two three-pointers coming from your big man who's got 22 points six-foot-seven center out beyond the rim nam a puts it up won't go Marshall with the rebound the Thunder need to build this lead coach once play 31 let's watch it against this trapping zone now for the Rangers scroat Ellucian breaks it gets it to Blackburn he wants to shoot it again can't get it to go but there's a foul inside and that's against Gro dilution they call the offensive foul and Jill Scott picked up yet another charge I believe that's the
066fourth one that he's picked up on discovery Canyon [Music] just do it in there and took the charge and he stayed through the entire play Gordo Lucien passed the ball while he was still in the air a lot of players would have just peeled off Ragsdale got it Louis Palmer fans in attendance like that we're tied again to 48 and Ragsdale with 19 doing his best to keep up with Scott who's got a game-high 22 he and Blackburn Anderson to grow dilution he'll drive on Scott and this time they're gonna call Scott for the block Andy what you see different from he took a charge last time this time it's the block call you know I don't think he has a legal guardian here you know we got a heavy attacker here he's he is
067moving backward but we don't have a legal guardian position established which is the term we're gonna use all time inside a black firm for two more points he's the leading scorer in the game tonight and he needs to continue to be for the Thunder to hang on and win this thing he's out guarding Scott now pushes the ball to naama in the corner inside working on Andersen who didn't want to get another foul and a good job by Carter Kreischer it'll be interesting to see if Lewis Palmer it starts going after whoever Andersen is guarding with those four fouls because he's really like guys kind of just go by not trying to pick up that fit be interesting to see if baby Campbell goes to a zone as well Blackburn again outside can't get it
068to go no one crashing this time the Rangers get it but knocked away by Blackburn good job Michaela Blackburn with treating on defense and getting that steel and we've got a timeout called by coach Campbell and we'll keep it right here Jason I'm wondering coach Campbell maybe gonna try and protect some guys maybe go to his own on the defensive end yeah that wouldn't be back that's the man-to-man like you said when they went in against whoever Anderson was guarding he put his hands up but didn't put up too much of a fight because he didn't want to pick up the fifth which would really hurt this team because he's their second leading scorer so far in this ballgame 339 left fourth quarter Paul Campbell's got to be happy I mean we talked about this
069pregame if you look at on paper yes it was a nine-point game last time but you look at it on paper Lewis Palmer is the better basketball team coach Campbell hats off to him and his team tonight they're playing the perfect game in order to be able to get a chance against the Rangers and they seem to match up really well against Lewis Palmer I mean the Rangers have some Heights with discovery Canyon can match that and when you have a guy like Blackburn who can truly be a difference maker both inside and as we've seen outside as he's hit two three-pointers it can really change the tone of a game there's a good look at Caleb Blackburn who we can tell you is going to Penn University on a golf scholarship was part of
070the state championship team here discovery candy last year the first boys team to win a state title that golf team someone might want to alert the Penn basketball team they got a decent player on their golf squad Seneca Lawson an Ivy League school - that's pretty impressive lost ball Blackburn got it back in the corner go dilution and the Thunder will work that ball around maybe this was what Coach Campbell is talking to him about to get it outside Marshall put three won't go rebound tried to get his own Ragsdale comes up with it now the Rangers will try and take the lead good offense discovery can you did a great job of kind of whipping the ball around that time they found a wide open shot just couldn't knock it down inside tipped away
071by Blackburn and he comes up and gets the ball great job by Kayla Blackburn they're gonna call him for a travel look Blackburn is just absolutely everywhere tonight offensively defensively he has done absolutely everything that you can ask of a class you cannot fault the effort of Kayla Blackburn you see him get possession of the ball here and then stumbles takes almost three steps before he dribbles that basketball nah man up top to 45 now left in the fourth quarter [Music] Forester gets a screen from Scott comes up top almost stolen by Blackburn Scott comes inside a little bit contested Anderson is there rebound by the Rangers and Kreischer had the ball inside 22 and Ragsdale and I'm going to talk to any antihero here in just a second that fouls going to be on
072Caleb bro dilution and Andy the three second starts again after the rebound correct yeah what's a shot goes up then we have a new three-second talent yes they were screaming for three seconds but he had only had it for probably about one just kept arriba totally get what Coach Campbell wants he wants possessions yep we just smile at him as we go back up the court Kreischer hits both free throws a two point lead for the Rangers Clausen deep pass to blackburn cross two nice ball movement as the Thunder skip pass Blackburn gonna bring it inside kick it out Marshall being very deliberate now gonna look for a really good shot Blackburn will take that one from the corner welco thought he had it Scott with the rebound the Rangers now can take a two-possession
073lead great possession there by discovery Canyon again to find an open shot blocker just got unlucky as that hit every portion of the rim Ragsdale inside got it over Blackburn four point range early to possession game thunders got a score it was Anderson up top he'll stay way out top now and timeout Paul Campbell's he wants to talk about it 131 left how big of a basket was that for Matt Ragsdale down the other end Jason yeah that was nice play there by Lewis Palmer they took their time got the shot that they wanted that last possession by discovery Kenny I thought it's interesting that they've got Blackburn out here on the three-point arc he's shown us that he can make that they've got crota Lucien down low as the post player not sure why
074you wouldn't make me switch those two and try and get it into blackburn for an easy two points which he's shown that he can do over this Louis Palmer defense chase Rodgers has now checked back in for Paul Campbell the big six six Senior Center has not gotten a lot of playing time and I does average about six and a half points a game the Thunder have four play three players with four fouls and two with three two of them or one with three Clausen grow dilution Smith and Anderson all with for Blackburn still has three so yeah 20 total fouls here for discovery Canyon so and this game goes too much longer that's gonna become a serious problem especially if we head into an extra period by the Thunder that's what the Thunder are
075hoping for right now I got to get a basket so it's Blackburn Rodgers Clawson Anderson and Marshall in for the Thunder and it'll be Scott Nam a pryceshire Ragsdale for the Rangers along with Forester Thunder out top get it to Clausen trying to work against that Ranger zone work it back and forth and stolen away by Forester as he takes that pass and Marshall tried to get him on the foul before it had believe he did good call he was fouled on the floor before he went up and a good foul by Riley Marshall just his first so no problem there you're right very smart to take away and make him earn him from the line especially Forester who missed his last two he made his first two he's missed his last two he's a
076good look at Ethan at the line misses that one Forester a 65% free-throw shooter on the season but like you've said he's missed his last three trying to get to 50% on the night he can make this one got it goes to gets the basket so the Thunder now still just a two-possession game but they've got a score with 115 14 left awesome comes across the time line they look into the teeth of that Rangers own Blackburn wants it shot up can't go rebound Rangers on the run nam e-excuse me Baca pushes it back to Scott almost stolen away and look at the presence of mind by Joel Scott just to hang on to that basketball 5550 the Thunder one a foul Seth Lawson doesn't want to do it cuz this would be his fifth
077and they give it to him Seth Clausen is found out of this basketball game and maybe a little later foul than Paul Campbell wanted yeah coach was asking for a foul there and like he said Clausen looked like he just kind of ran by the guy but he must have reached out of we were blocked by the offensive player so Clausen fouls out Baca shot good that mountain gets a little bit bigger as it's a six-point game now Baca can make it seven three possession game Thunder got a score fast 5750 Blackburn thought about Anderson wants it in the corner shot out won't go rebound Smith tried to get it goes out of bounds it's gonna stay with the Thunder coach Campbell wanting you got to get a three here 35 seconds yeah they've had
078an opportunity for threes the last couple possessions just haven't been able to knock him down Anderson wants it shot up way off rebound Scott and he spins out of there no fouls called takes his time what a great job by Joel Scott presence of mind to pull that back out seven-point lead this game is over if they can just let that clock run out he finally gets fouled [Applause] and that's gonna be Blackburn that's gonna be his fourth back into the game will come Caleb grow dilution and Scott to the line got the person what's he up to now Jason he is a twenty three game high 8 and 9 from the line so he's definitely earned a good portion of those points Rangers call him out their defense Scott it's the next one nine
079point lead now the final seconds in poll Campbell wants to talk about it pretty tough road to hoe here down nine with 12 seconds Jason yeah and they've had some good looks at three-pointers their previous three or four possessions and just haven't been able to knock them down and that if essentially is what killed them and got him to this nine-point deficit well we talked about at halftime they were shooting very well in the first half but they were shooting from inside they only started to rely when they started to get behind they started to shoot some more threes and they're just they're just not making them tonight no they're 2 of 15 as a team overall discovery came and I believe they were probably I think they were about over 4 in the first
080half so they put up double digit three-pointers here in the second half and have only made two there's a nice shot Namie outside and again Matt Ragsdale it's been the ragsdale and Scott show yes it has those two a45 of lp's 59 points they've been doing it mostly inside to there haven't been a whole lot of outside shots from either one of those guys they're only one of six combined from three so a lot of it's been in the paint Marshall gets it in Jackson Smith he's thinking about it shoots it from outside no rebound Kreischer inside and a foul quickly called against Marshall that's his second and that should be it I would wouldn't be surprised if this win once the Thunder inbound of all they just run out that clock trying to shoot
081it three quick but should be the last free throws we see tonight they're gonna need Reggie Miller here on this team what did he have was it nine points in eight seconds or 11 points in eight seconds that's the type of miracle they're gonna need crushers first one good ten point game now and the second shot up and good for Kreischer 65 senior forward here we go the Thunder will try and just make this one look a little prettier tomorrow morning's paper Blackburn shot won't go rebound grow dilution and that's the way it'll end but you could see the excitement from the Louis Palmer Rangers this seems eighteen two to ten and one in league and they were taken to the wire tonight by the Thunder despite that final score yeah pulling out a victory
082like this is huge because in that first half discovery Candide was hands down the better team in this ball game to Louis Palmer like he said very happy to escape with a victory that'll do it for our live broadcast from Discovery Canyon where the Thunder gave Louis Palmer all they could handle but the Rangers won at 61 250 moving to 19 and to 11 and 1 in league play the Thunder fall to 10 and 10 5 and 7 in Pikes Peak League action for Andy Hyo Jason Carter and our entire 20 TV crew signing off from Discovery Canyon thanks for watching tonight we'll see you next time on 20 TV
