to do um we have uh it's like mr lawson are you filling he comes to us and he has been awesome and he is very very very good so yeah so anything you'd like to add or i would like to say that uh northwood originally apd and the texas technology alliance is grateful for the opportunity to support this community and that i have a lot of really talented people that work on uh and we're all here to support you guys [Music] we have one class i just wanted to welcome the new members here appreciate your efforts and i appreciate foreign um uh there's opportunity at the front there is another thank you so yes my name is [Music] um so welcome to all of the new members thank you for stepping up being here um
my question tonight is probably one that you've heard before i'll just speak right up to it i want to know a couple of things about the philosophy and the position of this school board on critical race theory philosophy and whether or not it is going to be in our students curriculum k through 12 math reading obviously social studies and other things but i want to know exclusively if you can't get the answer today i understand but i will follow up with this i want to know exactly where we stand in this community on this topic whether or not it's being forced by our governor or other bodies in the state and whether or not our board is going to represent our community and and understand so that's my question and the other piece to that
is i also want to know about our curriculum regarding gender and whether or not we are going to support our female because he also physiologically created female students to be able to have their sports without a non physiological student participating in the same woman a nurse for 40 years i kind of have an opinion on that seen plenty of humans in my life love them all cared for them all but i want to know what our school is going to do to protect female abilities to succeed in their athletics so if you're going to sleep with that tonight i'll be thrilled otherwise in the last next meeting anybody want i do expect to know every board member's position now whether i talk to you individually confidentially whatever but i want to move every single person
in this position on both of those topics please because you're representing my kids and grandkids and you're representing my tax dollars probably all know who i am um and i just wanted to say that um and um it wasn't easy obviously there was a lot of super negative things that came out because of the positions that i took on a number of different issues but i really believe in finding consensus i believe that we should all be allies that we want the same goods we want our children of every race color gender to flourish whether they are you know part of the majority group or the minority group we want the same things and i think that what we need is open dialogue on these issues and we need to have the ability to reach
across to people who disagree with us whether whether it's related for instance to critical race three that would be able to have a robust discussion about this so there are a couple of things i wanted to ask first is that i would like to request that the school board begin monthly meetings of a town hall type where community members can come and we can have an in-depth discussion of issues that affect our community from curriculum issues to issues related for instance to the shutdowns and things where in this past year what i saw was that parents were not represented we were not able to speak publicly in comments at the school board meetings there was no way to know who agreed with you of how people are feeling in the community and i think it's
really essential that we have some kind of community member um advisory committee something along those lines and i would love her to come from the school board and do something that was that was as i said a community effort to to create dialogue around these really important issues um and uh related to that ayla actually told me that um legally the community should be able to have access to these school district buildings to host such a meeting even if the school board didn't want to be the ones behind the organization of it and say it were brought forward by a group of parents who wanted to do this that we should be able to use a room here on one of the campuses to hold these kind of monthly meetings for this kind of dialogue
so that's my first thing and the second thing i wanted to say is that um we have uh god children moving to banks who are eritrean if you don't know what that is black right so my feelings my my um my feelings on the issue of critical theory medical race theory in particular are profoundly related to the fact that i believe that these that critical race theory is in essence racist and it is so dangerous and um poisonous for these children i love i am not coming to you as a community member concerned for my white children i'm coming as a community member deeply concerned for my black children and it is essential to me that we have this discussion and i want to know where and and how how this is coming into particular
and i'll tell you as i mean i am a high school educated i mean i have my masters in education to teach in high school and i know that 30 years ago the pedagogy was oriented around critical race theory and so i know that the teachers in this building and all of these buildings are educated to look at things through the lens of race and i know that my high school daughter was taught that in her high school classes he had discussions about these things and i am deeply committed to making sure that this is not part of what is taught to my black children so i wanted to bring to you this um uh fair is a new civil rights group it's called stands for the foundation against intolerance and racism the the um
board members of this are primarily people of color black and other races and they are committed to pro-human education and this i wanted to offer to you for your review these are learning standards so it's not like the high school or the elementary school would say well we don't know how to do what you're talking about doing this is a real life very powerful very deep um look at an offering that is different from black lives matter at school for instance or the 16-19 project so i want to offer this to you guys and likely i would like to request that this be part of the agenda for next month's meeting so that we can have a discussion of what you may be having looked at this and have come back with some response as
to what you think of this kind of a curriculum being or learning being given to our teachers as part of an expectation of how they're teaching so thank you thank you um [Music] moving on to uh all right then we'll move on to 5.00 yeah so cover 19 update um a lot has changed [Music] so i'll just first of all the summer school update to 40 students um with the middle school in high school and we were in week three of the high school and today was the first day for middle school so we've had a good turnout with that one of the other things that i have done is i sent out communication last week in regards to masks currently they are optional and we're still encouraging people who are not vaccinated for staff
to wear students it's more of a closer setting if we were doing a closer setting so that was something they sent out last week you know the governor brought a lot of the executive orders that mass was mandatory with school districts regardless of regard um so that's where we're out of that um you know there's things to change every summer one thing we will tell you that the difficult without as we switch classes at the middle school in high school so the cdc just released some recent data you know as we go through the summer and see how successful we are in the summer school some districts are moving forward with a similar a similar um similar approach some summer potentially still is going to be requiring the fall and we i mean i would
never want to put a guarantee on anything because we could have cases something might happen or the guidance when they updated in july 22nd i mean so i don't ever want to guarantee anything i did say that in my letter the mass thing will be throughout the year there might be so that's where we're at with that and we're looking for this was this is how quick the guidance is this year so you remember i don't know last year so it's very general it gives us it gives local control to all of us and there are still you know they strongly advise or they encourage these things but regardless of what we do with base coverage we still have to contact trees and we have to be able to if we do have a case
in our school we have to be able to trace we have to be able to report that to washington um those things are still there so that will be updated july 22nd um and then um you know i would say by the first of august it would be if they were okay moving forward into the fall with the same type of um same type of direction this goes well in july when nothing really changes um the other part that was this is probably one of the better leaders in the last 15 to 16 months and um you know just like before and i already agreed with one way we got everybody's going to do this but you you know we had some students in summer school that they were going to ask mine around once
in a while but sometimes just because [Music] um one thing you know as vaccinations are available for most middle school and high school kids now depending on their age [Music] get shorter and shorter is there any um um [Music] today [Music] a couple of cases it may not get shut down we'll see thanks to change ten times [Music] okay we'll move on to 6.0 action items for six point one do you wanna have a motion make a motion to include the girls soccer cooperative agreement for 2020 [Music] discussion so they requested of us [Music] a little application in here yeah because if you combine the participation of last year 1923 total okay they had a couple more um [Music] um yeah i really don't have anything to add um just make sure you read them
through the board report if you need to add anything to the world retreat [Music] the board self-evaluation process my evaluation process which kind of tied around ingredients which we really really talked about last year kind of go through some things and thirdly some lunch [Music] good opportunity to talk about um sure i just want to follow up [Music] for a long time also just wanted to give a little bit of update on the negotiations with the uh classified staff i also were trying to report [Music] is [Music] um we're just going through the contract and making sure is well i want to tell you what an honor is to sit here i am i'm very very happy i get to be a partner and i just hope i can bring to the table um things
that are very important to my children and i like it that we can work as a team i'm so looking forward to that and i appreciate everyone that came in that's what we need our community to come and let us know what their thoughts are and also that what we can do to make our community and our kids um stronger and um i'm looking forward to even having some of our kids from our school come and tell us what they're doing and give us more of that people so anyway i'm very very thank you uh um um really looking forward to working with both of you and welcome back um yeah it's just like jeff said just happy we have to um [Music] um [Music] one of the things that we do is um with
that we'll go ahead and turn [Music] oh
