001My name is Dr. Van and I [music] am a newly elected Beaverton school board director zone one. Why do I want to be on the school board? That's a great [music] question. I spent 40 years in education. I started out being a classroom assistant and got my teaching degree and then I became a principal and [music] then I became executive director of teaching learning then interim assistant superintendent for [music] PBS. So when I retired this position became uh open. I said oh with all my experience I can do something with all my time that I have I can still continue. My lifelong wish [music] is to um equalize the [music] uh success of our student by education. I am the result of public education. I came [music] to United States as a refugee and without the public education that I had the opportunity to to have I wouldn't be here today. This is my passion. This [music] is giving back to a system that have given me the chance [music] and be representing um many students that don't look like the mainstream students. My drive is to be able to get this [music] experience and help our student be who they want to be. And I know it can be done. [music]
