e e e so we're officially calling this meeting to order please join me in standing for the Pledge of Allegiance Pledge of alance to the flag of the United States of America to the nation okay welcome everybody um so we're moving a couple of things um around on the agenda so we are moving consent agenda to the end of the regular meeting and we are adding two discussion items which is um the um I believe that but um Dan wanted to talk about the resource officer and um and then we were going to add administrative vacancies to that um we are also removing two 's from our um executive session and adding two different ones so uh we are making those changes um for the best uh interest of the district in sending those on

to an attorney to deal with so um that's what's happening there and so I think we are going to um look at the budget right no first we're going to look at our um policies that we went through that the so John I have been involved in oh we do yeah of the budget okay that is is Dan Thon here I thought he was going to come in speak about the budget okay so I think that um the person in charge of the budget committee wanted to give um the board a presentation about that so just was pausing for a moment to see if that was still happening otherwise we can move on we can certainly move that to a different segment if we need to oh doing pulling Hy in okay okay um so

I we will then um ask for I think some public comment on that in regards to the budget I don't think we had any submitted so does anybody have any I see a hand no I'm not speaking on behalf of Dan but um I haven't seen him since last week my daughter got married this last weekend so it's been crazy I couldn't even find my notes for tonight cuz somebody moved all my stuff at my house so um one thing that we talked about on the budget committee was I mean that I think one of the concerns was um obviously inflation of all of our bills and trying to think of the future not just like this next year to get us by um and I think that that was one thing he was definitely

going to touch on is that yes we're safe for this next year but what do we have thinking ahead past that you know what are our ideas what are our strategies to um save money or make Cuts just like like a lot of other school districts are the big school districts are um inflation is just crazy and taking a lot of jobs right now um we just got an i5 auction thing for Allen and Gibbons who going out of business um Basco logging going out of business um one of the I mean we've we've had no work as a log truck this year I mean our it's it's bad I mean so I just know it's affecting everybody our our own personal truck insurance went up 35% wow I mean that's over $200 a month

that just jacked up and what are the answers that we get they're pretty crappy so I'm just saying that I think it's it's all across the board it's not going to matter what job you have we're all going to be affected and we need to think about past this year what what are we going to do have a plan in place so I don't know if that's everything he he probably had a pretty good presentation but that's what we touched on so thank you for that um I too have some concerns about sustainability long-term being involved in the legislative policy um committee um when looking at uh money that's going to be allocated for schools uh it's concerning long term so um Carolyn did you have any comments or things that you wanted to say

about the budget before we move on the that okay all right so I think we um I will entertain a motion to approve um resolution number 42324 adopting the budget making Appropriations imposing taxes and categor categorizing taxes I move to approve resolution number 42324 adopting the budget making Appropriations imposing taxes and Cate categorizing taxes okay and I know we just had some discussion about any further discussion anyone so yep yep so um all those in favor of passing motion I motion passes okay and so we have been um John and I have been meeting with a an entire team administrative team looking at all our policies and reviewing that so we are um we um are looking at adopting the reading of ab and so I would entertain a motion to adopt the revised policies

for ab is presented um I'm move to adopt revised policies ABS as presented I'll second that okay any discussion about that I'll a little short bit about it um these policies are huge and a lot of them are like you know a lot of legal stuff that you have to have the um and they really aren't uh I I do have some problem because some of those policies are going to not affect us some of them they are not going to follow there'll be little things in them that people will and will not you know minuscule things that are like oh well nobody's going to worry about that and some of them are going to be uh followed in and I I I really don't like the way the policies are but as the you

know legal way that we're supposed to do it that um that's what we're going to have to do I mean we should be able to go through the policy I didn't bring the book but it's huge and uh it's just uh a lot of policies in there and and we haven't even got I don't know what are we halfway done yes it it's uh it seems like there's no way you could know everything that's in that book and there's policies on lots of stuff that nobody is going to ever find so I mean you can look in there and uh I just find that we don't need a policy book that is that big but that is what we are going to get if if you the reviewers need to tap I know you've been

through many hours if you need to tap um you know we're going to summer I can make time to go to the if you're done reading policies and you want somebody to tap out for a meeting or something just call me and let me know when I can actually we we do pretty well they only do us three hours at a time thank you for volunteering that that's super um appreciate it because it is kind of daunting um any other discussions okay all those in favor of adopting the revised policies ab's per second presented in as a second reading I motion passes okay and I think now um we're going to have an update from our superintendent um about stuff that's been some exciting stuff that's been going on here at the school all right

the last couple board member meetings you had directed me to gather some information from not only the staff and students but also from the community I want to share with you the results of a survey that um IT specialist John black helped me with so thank you John for doing that um I'm just going to pass this out this horrible teaching by the way give you something to look at and then I'm going to talk to you at least it's colors it looks like pictures right it'll keep your attention all right uh so I um sent a request out to staff um and asked them for feedback and I also asked them to pull their students too so um I had uh 19 staff respond to my email and um the responses from from my

email poll with staff and students really mirror the community poll that John put out so um I'm going to go through my email results first and then I'm going to get to this document about um what the survey said so the majority of um responses came back that they were in favor of the same colors um as the high school and um continuing I'm calling the Middle School wild cats so the same theme all the way through uh some said same colors and use a cat theme uh two people said same colors call them the cats and then another person said same colors with another North American Wild Cat um three responses came back as stay the same red and black but changed the mascot to a Bears theme um one to call the Middle

School the um the Grizzlies I think is what I have it down here oh yeah Glide Grizzlies with a black shirt and a red bear growling as a mascot um and um two responses said they want to keep it the same as the as current some comments that were given to me um by the adults were um they were excited to bring the Middle School into alignment uh with the High School uh they're worried about the cost of switching that over um they um I didn't realize there was this many cats but they named a bunch of different cats that include lyns cougars Pumas Panthers Jaguars Cel hope I'm saying that right ocelot River Cats Mountain cats lions cheetah and Wolverines I didn't know if Wolverines was a cat or not but cat Okay uh

the students came back half of them I'm sorry not half the majority of them said about time was there a comment and two classes indicated they wanted to stay the same the graders okay the survey in front of you as you can see 123 people responded uh some of them I'm guessing were similar as to my email because some of the same comments were in here as were on my email so you can take that for what you what it's worth uh but if you turn to the second page you'll see that um 92 .7% of the people supported the change of the current mascot and they also um supported the blue and gold colors at 86.2% uh John broke it down to um the different animals that he put out um which I thought

was an interesting twist um and you can see there really wasn't a majority um even wild cats came in at 36.5% but that was the highest percentage of people liking the wild cats and then there's just um a list of um comments that were given in the survey and if you have time reading through the comments they it's pretty informative but it really does mirror um the comments that I got through the email poll so that's the information that I gathered on the mascot thank you Robert this is great information well well put togethering okay where do you see next steps from here on on this for us is that we're just yeah I think it's on the board's um purview now to decide if if you want to change the mascot if you want

to change the colors if you want to change both the mascot and the colors um okay um this is awesome thank you anybody ocelot huh ocelot go ocelots go go ocelot no I think that was I think that was following the UCC riverhawk thing oh that's my guess they didn't say that yeah if I recall the discussion was important now because we'd be buying uniforms in two it would corre transition it into effect now if we decided to change yeah so so yeah I think we should have a discussion about that and um and then I'm curious how we go about deciding we just go with the majority motion and vote on it yeah I would entertain a motion I I um yes I'll I'll make a motion and I'll just go with the uh

the number one that they went for as far as and uh go with the same as the high school that we Chang it to blue and gold and the wild cats I'll make that motion discussion s a i no I cannot okay any well oh go ahead I'm fairly certain you know some people may not really think that's the greatest but you know it's I I think over time it'll it'll save us money as far as you know the uniforms and such you know I think parents will appreciate it as as time goes on and I and I appreciate the effort gone into the survey and stuff and when we did this yes conversation and I'm I don't know it 10 years ago or something it was close but the majority was no let's keep

it the same mhm and I think that was cuz we you know a lot of people had still gone to the old middle school before we left the old middle school there was still a lot of history there well now I think it's a different group of kids in a different feeli and I think clearly those that spoke up have spoke up in favor of it I've heard very little against it so yeah yes I I've heard very little against um and Robert I super appreciate like this is like really succinct and um but yet hearty information and done in a really quick efficient manner and super grateful about that so I guess all those in favor of blue and gold wild cats across Junior High and high school hi hi motion passes okay um

so do you want to tell us about the awesomeness of field day I do uh hopefully the people in the audience have children in our district and they went home and told you what an incredible event we had um for a culminating activity uh this school year as many of you know that we have gone to a house system uh the house system helps with building community and belonging and it also fits into our discipline program and everything's built around the house system I think one board meeting all of you um spun the wheel and got put into a house uh so there was some discussion about how can we um boost that um those philosophies of belonging and um that we're a one organization um but we have you know small groups um within

that organization and the discussion around having a field day where all the kids participate in their houses started um evolving and there was a group of leaders um in the district that continued to do that and it evolved into um kindergarten students through 11th grade because seniors had already graduated um coming together for a half a day to participate with each other um we we tried to put together some point systems and we did have a winner but it really was more about fun and um enjoying each other's company the culminating activity was the highlight uh of the event where we had a I can't remember if it was 12 or 13 by 100 relay so each leg was 100 yards and we started with staff and so the staff started um this is what

we were going to do we had to we had to modify it but staff were going to start and then go 11th graders 10th graders nth graders eighth graders all the way down to kindergarteners and we were going to stop at kindergarteners reset them and then have them finish the last leg of the race and whoever won that was a house that won so um that was pretty cute um we ended up starting with fourth grade I think and working our way down and the kindergarten group um were the group that decided who were the winners it was pretty neat then we fed everybody uh we had music playing the whole time um uh Chris CLA was on the microphone making it sound like a really special event I I wish I had the number

of um parent volunteers that came it was a lot of people that came and helped with that event uh Food Service helped feed you know 700 people in a very short period of time it was super efficient um it was just a great day I asked several kids at the end if they had fun big smiles on their faces you'll see that in this video that I'm going to show you um and yes every uh everyone I talked to yes they had fun and my follow-up question is you want to do this again next year and they said absolutely so I'm hoping it's something that we can continue as an annual event in our school district something different so uh I asked again Mr Black I um I leaned on him quite a bit um

for this board meeting he was able to fly his drone and get some Drone footage and so we have about 3 minutes of footage I don't I don't know if you guys will need to stand to see this or you can move over here but it's it's a super cool footage of the day and you can kind of get an idea of um the different events this one uh they had to go down in the coolers and they have a sponge where they would soak up water and they had to fill a bucket that was my favorite event this is an obstacle course uh watching the kids go through this the G in the little yellow right there I don't know where she came from but she decided she was going to just follow suit

yep uh so we had cornhole and um oh I just lost what you call the where you bounce it on like a little trampoline spike ball thank [Music] you this was super hard they had to to throw a football through a hula hoop the helpers eventually just grabbed the hula hoop and took life in their own hands this one was even harder you had to kick a soccer ball through a hula hoop into the net I'm not sure how many actually got in and this is we're back to the water relay volunteers kept points uh we totaled the points and declared a winner for the first annual house field day I don't remember who won I think everyone won oh there we go I knew somebody I knew somebody would remember I knew somebody would

remember softball throw and this is setting up for our Rel Way and 100 yards is a long ways for little legs I notice the kid in the orange he was way off his these are the first graders and this is the kindergarten group kids were lined up on the side cheering them on it was it was pretty an awesome awesome scene I think John was just playing with his drone at this point all right thank you again John for doing that yeah that's awesome yeah that was pretty cool so my understanding is that um the media was out checking us out yeah so kpic did a segment not unfortun they did a great job they interviewed students um and Brian Odell who was one of our lead um adults that organized it uh by the

time they got there a lot of they it was during lunchtime so a lot of their footage was kids sitting down you saw um John's footage where kids were moving and they literally were moving from 9:00 to 11:30 um I'm pretty sure they slept good that night but yeah kpic was there I did invite the news review but they didn't show up that's too bad yeah um well that looks awesome it was a great day looks like there was a good turnout um thank you for that um so also um so one of the agenda items that we added is that there um we have two um administrative vacancies right now in our High School junior high and I just um was hoping maybe you could um speak to that or and to the public

about your vision for moving forward with that like bet what you yeah so uh as chair out of said we have two openings um our principal and assistant principal um my job um on any hire is to ensure that we um do our due diligence and uh try to get the greatest applicant pool possible so we have options on selecting um candidates who meet our needs um so right now um we're going to post those position tomor positions tomorrow and try to generate an applicant pool and then from that pool um I am uh I am all about transparency and involving our stakeholders that um are going to be working with those people so um we'll when the um position closes I'll invite all staff at the middle school and high school to participate in

a screening uh screenings done you have to sign a confidentiality um the applications are secure and they can come as individuals or as teams and go through the candidates and they can rank their candidates and we'll use that information to determine um who we're going to move on to the interview stage when we get to that stage I'll invite um key members of the middle school and high school um from different um groups from licensed and classified uh to parti ipate on the um interview panel uh would really like it if we had a representation of the board on that panel um uh I'll include a parent on there also I think that's important to get community input uh we'll go through an interview and then we'll have discussions about um the candidates and um

if we are confident in a person after the first interview then we'll end at the first interview if we have a couple that are close or we need more information then we'll do around 2 interview that could include a performance or some kind of live simulation of what a principal would go through at that point we will we'll charge that group with coming up with our um first and second selection I'll reach out to our first selection offer them a position if they accept then we'll bring that person to the board um for final approval My Hope Is that we could have that um process buttoned up and taken care of by our July board meeting um so we'd have somebody in place I think it's going to be really important to get a person

in there the right person in there as soon as possible um to start that process of getting this uh the school year going uh I'm holding off on posting the assistant principal because I think it's really important that the whoever our new principal is is involved in that they work super close together and um that person should have a say in who they're working with so that's kind of my outline of my process that's awesome thank you for ex explaining that and being um letting our community know what that would look like um okay thank you um so Dan did you want to talk about the briefly um we got away from SRO a few years ago because uh not because we chose to but because Roseberg ran out of people yeah um I've got

it under good authority from two different agencies that they are people again and there are a couple agencies interested um I just wanted to have the conversation before the board to say is this um I feel we need to go back to a uniform SRO I think that the benefits are innumerable we've talked about them before um if it's something the board wants to pursue um I've had experience with the last contracts I'd be willing to work with Robert and go you know visit with folks to get that together again I think the value of having a uniformed SRO here over the years I mean we've had one for many many years it only stopped because not because we wanted to but because um you know they just ran out of people that's the reality

of law enforcement they're getting numbers back um we we went to a uh the security officer format um which is has covered us for now but I think the value of having a a formed officer to make those uh to respond to things to have a presence here I think it bolsters the security of the district I think it um you know just from that worst case possible thing having a uniformed officer here I think it helps the kids immensely to have friendly face uniformed officer they learn all the things about you know police are nice guys um uh we've had great resource officers the past that have just built amazing relationships with the the students and um I know I would just really encourage us to go that way again um I don't want

to invest a bunch of time into looking at contracts and you know getting estimates if we don't if it's not something we all want to do but if we're in support of it then I would start looking i' work with Robert to get if you want me to I'd work with Robert to get bids based on the old contract and we've got the the old contract was pretty close to what we need we need to I would my opinions we need to change a couple things about out of agency response and things but the contract we had with Roseberg had come after many many variations and uh contracts and it was it's a solid place to start so yeah let's have it as anybody want to talk to that looks like several people I can't

remember I'm sorry jenet would you say I asked if it was in the budget I couldn't remember because at one point it was and then yeah okay so and I'm sorry the answer answer was Caroline do not have the SRO budgeted for the 2425 fiscal year because um I did not know that was something that we were pursuing true that would be my biggest I like the idea Dan thanks for bringing it up and all I I but I if we don't have a placeholder in the budget for it uh I think we need to talk numbers and see if there's something I mean we always have a a little wiggle room but it sounds like we want to be very careful about that wiggle room for future but you know right the budget's good

for next year but the year after is apparently is sounds a little scary so I don't want to lock into something that I think to start something we can't finish that's I I think definitely um I I think it's a good idea also um it's just my two cents um that it couldn't hurt to get numbers and and and have a dialogue around what that would look like for our future budget I mean we wouldn't know we're just until we know right so there's I don't think there's any harm in finding out if other people are interested in going that direction the last uh last contract I had I believe was 100K a year I I think that's what it was I was going to say 170 but I would have to was that for

bers yeah it wasn't okay I was like whoa yeah yeah that's what my memory Robert do you have any um early in my when I took over I did in um look into that with the Winston Dillard um police department and with the Douglas County Sheriff Office and both of them were about 150k and um just a reminder that this year for year for a year yeah uh but I would I would love to tap into um Dan's resources and just check and bring those numbers back to you um and then um you can charge Carolyn and I to you know what what would we have to remove from the budget in order to do that and then of course you have the decision on doing that or not I do want to remind the

U board that this year we chose to not do $600,000 in transfers because we were short on funds and trying to balance that out so if we're going to add an SRO it will come at a cost of something is is there I guess I would ask if uh some research can be done on are there any grants available under safety or something like that that you know federal or state or otherwise U could be cool that that would be a way to bridge that Gap or at least partial you know even if it's matching you know there's 75 then we dropped down our our our need for to 75 so well we don't know the number is but something like that so well I'm definitely interested in seeing the numbers and see what you

can come up with and continuing a dialogue around that um yeah I think and also just a scenario that is a fully burdened fulltime FTE and so I think looking at some scenarios because I remember I remember one of the officers I can't of remember his name he was here forever he was part-time um thank you so simple officer Le worked with him for years um so again I think looking and exploring those options in terms of what might be available not that it had to be a full a full time but fully burden and I love that's where I was going to go Tim was that years ago there was funding that's how the whole program started um um for some school districts and now might be an option to look at some okay

Robert I'll talk to you we'll set up a meeting and we'll yeah we'll move for some numbers okay thank you thank you okay uh superintendent report uh I don't have a report at this time okay I report guys do have your financials I actually printed off another copy because I forgot to ask it to save to one page and it didn't print off well so I will pass those out to you guys but as always if you guys have questions reach out to me via email or a phone call okay thank you um yeah so any individual reports from for board members on behalf of Dawson in field haying having Bor problems I think it's a thing this time of year um sorry just um okay so we are going to move on to um

public comment before we um break away to Executive session so anyone that has completed a yellow card wishing to address the board concerning either agenda or non agenda items May do so when called upon um please press the button on the microphone you kind of almost have to hold it down for a smidy second make sure it turns green um and um persons addressing the board must first state their full name and address for the record including whether they are resident of the glided school district all remarks should be directed to the entire board and not individual members um and um or individual um Personnel um so we have set we've got a few so we are going to try to keep it under um 3 minutes a piece if you can um just for

the sake of um the rest of the stuff that we've got to do uh the board reserves the right to delay um a response to any questions or comments until they can be fully informed on the matter um public comment is not a time for dialogue it is an opportunity for the board to listen and take notes limiting the interaction to clarifying questions only um the board cannot entertain or consider complaints until they have first addressed as per board policy KL um also Oregon law prohibits the board from discussing specific District employees or their job performance positive or negative in a public meeting um thank you for your time and understanding these rules and requirements and I do believe my first card um that I received was from Jennifer Anderson good evening board my name

is Jennifer Anderson I have been a teacher in this district for 26 years I have lived in the district for almost that 26 and both of my children went K through 12 in this District but what I would like to talk to you today is um my hope that in the next year as board members you will do what you can to create a positive and respectful relationship between board members and your certified staff there's a lot of us here at Glide that work really hard and while you guys do a great job of recognizing the fun stuff like the field trips and the field day none of us have ever been asked um what our feeling is about class size or big behaviors that we seeing I am afraid that Glide is turning into

a place where teachers don't want to come and it kills me to say this because I love this District but more and more of us do not feel like the board cares about us very rarely have I been asked what I do in my classrooms um very rarely have I been asked my opinion on something unless it's something special that shows up on the news for example our field day was great it was fun did you ask any teachers specifically how we felt about that did you know that there were teachers who had to give up their teaching grade day to help plan that and we do that stuff willingly but it would be nice for you to recognize that we are human beings we are here for the kids the school would not run

without us so that is what I will ask you guys to set as a goal for next year actually care about the staff when a parent has a complaint about one of us please encourage that parent to actually go to the teacher because I don't think that's happening and again I love this District I plan to work here until I retire or until I die whichever comes first I've had many of your kids in class and I loved and enjoyed every single one of them but make us feel valued thank you um thank you for sharing that so um um up next is Jessica Mall sure my name is Landon Allen um I'm I go to Glide high school I'm the FFA chapter officer for this year I'm Bailey mall I also go to Glide

high school and I'm secretary on the FAA officer team as I'm sure you all know the a teacher Miss beam was recently asked to resign we believe that this was under unfair circumstances Miss beam was my favorite teacher she came into the school year not knowing what to expect and handled the job with ease she was not given a curriculum or told what to teach and she managed to help us learn every she managed to help us learn something new every day Mrs Beam knows agriculture better than I know the back of my own hand and during the course of the year I found myself thinking we have an a teacher that's going to stay somebody that wants her job and enjoys being with us somebody that tries to help us learn I knew this

to be true until the day before school ended when Miss beam told us that she was asked to resign I was in disbelief now we understand that it is possible for you to reconsider your previous decision and that is what we ask you to do and if you decide not to we ask that the school and surrounding community be more supportive and willing to understand the difficulty the a teachers face and give extra support for the a teachers to come we feel as though having an A and F program in the future might not be possible under the current circumstances and we are asking you to help us fix that we wanted to read some thank you notes from students to miss m Dear Miss beam thank you for being our a adviser this year

you have always supported and helped me inside and outside of the school I appreciate all that you do for our school our community and my family you have impacted Ed me in many ways even if it doesn't seem like it I've always been pushed out of my comfort zone a couple times this year but it was for the best I know this year of teaching has not been so easy for you but just know that you are making a difference in my life and many others I hope you continue teaching here as our AG adviser for a while or at least until I graduate I couldn't have accomplished what I have this year without your help and guidance I just want to say thank you dear Mrs Beam thank you for always helping me and

giving me a great example to look up to I appreciate you always pushing me to learn and getting me out of my comfort zone whenever I have an idea or want to do something you always find a way to make it happen you have shown me what it's like to be a great leader and a great person overall I can't wait for what next year will bring thank you so much I hope you know how much I appreciate you thank you um thank you for sharing all that Jessica a call um I'm Jessica mall I live at 130 terrorist Drive in Glide um for those of you who don't know me my name is Jessica McCall I have a son and daughter who both attend Glide School District as a graduate of Glide High School

I didn't grow up far from here but not long after graduation my husband and I made a big move to Texas for 12 years we decided to move back to Oregon in 2021 and chose Glide because we have family ties here and wanted our kids to finish finish out in a small community school I have put my whole heart into the Glide School District this year I've given up time with my family time working on my solo business I chose to do this because moving here I saw a huge need for some kind of change I feel like I am somewhat of a neutral party not being from here there are a lot of people I don't know in this community and a lot of great people I have had the privilege to meet I

was just working off of what I felt and experienced being new to this community and decided to make the best attempt at being part of a positive change for this School District hoping to be an example for others this year for me has been spent having a lot of meetings with the administration including principal vice principal athletic director superintendent and school board members I also have two very active kids who played volleyball basketball softball and are involved in the FFA program and glide I have attended almost every school board meeting budget meeting and was involved in the district priority sessions this year I have Dove just about as far as I can into the Glide booster club to help in whatever way I can there whether it be making team snack bags helping in concessions

trying to keep the community informed on the Facebook page trying to come up with new ideas to raise money for our athletic programs such as our new Glide spirit store and hand making the items to sell to get that started personally I have made gear for the volleyball team and girls basketball teams at cost to help their teams decorated and provided gifts on senior night for volleyball boys and girls basketball wrestling and FFA as well as decorate for football senior night homecoming and pink out nights I tried to celebrate or I try oh yeah tried to celebrate our staff by organizing two fill the fridge campaigns throughout the school year and was given the opportunity to help shapper on the FFA National Convention trip and volunteered to help at each plant sale I also donated

to the FFA auction and Senior auction this year I tried my best to squeeze in as much as I could with all of that being said the actions that have taken place that I have witnessed and experienced over the last few months regarding the Glide a teacher are sadly not something I feel like I can continue to support I feel like a school board member should have a open mind on all sides having a Schoolboard member reach out to me personally try to make me upset with a teacher then when I'm not and trying to give my thoughts about said teacher telling me I will trust my community is not okay with me and I'm not sure I can support a Schoolboard who thinks and acts this way and who can be controlled by certain

community members Rebecca beam stepped up to help our kids this year when our school had run off yet again another a teacher six teachers in 10 years sure seems like there's a much bigger problem here we need need teachers like Mrs Beam who are at GSD because they want to be here instead of them just being here for a paycheck I met with Mr Freeman this week and basically was told that he is unsure if we will have an a program next year which I feel could easily be solved by letting Mrs Beam teach our kids like she wanted to do in the first place and finally providing her and other teachers in the district with the support that they need to succeed under a new Administration this year I was really excited to move

forward new board new superintendent but I feel like this is a huge mistake on the district's part and will be a huge setback I also worry that now not only will we lose her as a teacher but also as one of the few supportive parents we have left thank you um Abby mik and yeah sure Jan Trimble Jana Trimble 14566 North unqua Highway Roseberg and I am a member of this community as was on the budget committee um thank you guys for having everyone here and able to do public participation um I'm here to talk about um Title 9 I know it's not on the agenda but it's coming up soon it's a hot topic that we're talking about that may take effect uh August 1st um and I'm actually here on behalf of I'm

the chair for moms for Liberty and um moms for Liberty is one of um many lawsuits that have been filed against the Biden Administration um our lawsuit is hoping to make an injunction to delay the August 1st 2024 date in which the Rewritten Title 9 rule will take effect um I just kind of wanted to read um a few facts to you guys um I don't know how many of you have actually kind of taken the time to dive into what's happening with the title 9 um so April 19th 2024 the Biden Administration released new unofficial guidelines for Title 9 effective August 1st 2024 the new title 9 regulations are unconstitutional they erase women and girls erase women and girls eliminate due process compel speech strip parents of their fundamental right to direct the upbringing

of their child including decisions regarding their education Medical Care morality and religion Title 9 now requires that schools treat students who suffer or claim to suffer from gender dysphoria as though they were the opposite sex that a male student who identifies as a female must be allowed access to facilities designated for females such as bathrooms or locker rooms and to participate in women's sports and organizations teachers and students must refer to a gender dysphoric Child by her preferred pronouns and alternative name that no formal documentation be required to affirm gender identity additionally if the Administration has not provided a clear definition of gender identity a male student could easily switch between identifying as male or female other Title 9 repercussions include that when a female student opposes having a male on a team or in

an organization intended only for women or who feels uncomfortable sharing a locker room with a male the female in opposition may now not only incurred social stigma but also the possibility of legal repercussions for her school team or organization that while tile 9 does not strictly require transitioning be kept secret from parents in the event of a conflict between Title 9 and the family education rights and Privacy Act other n known as furpa keywords like sex-based harassment and hostile environment sex-based harassment will override furpa thus opening the door to conceal the transitioning process the expectation that the Govern federal government will argue that the newly proposed Title 9 regulation will supersede all state laws safeguarding parental rights particularly concerning gender identity and sexual orientation and public education what comes next the defense of parental rights

the policy of secretly socially transitioning students into a different gender identity will spread currently there are cases across the country of parents suing school districts because their child was soci she transitioned without their knowledge or consent with this new rule the department is asserting that the same child who is deemed too young to make decisions like driving smoking drinking alcohol or running a car is capable of choosing their gender without their decision mandated to be protected by school administrators and conversely mandated to be kept from parents who are unsupportive or performers performers of hostile environmental environment sex-based harassment um I am going to hand out this is a resolution um and I will hand it to you but I can email a copy of a res it's a template um of a resolution for school

boards to consider um in what's coming up so I just want to present that to you guys and then I can email it so you guys all have your own copy um or you can also if anyone has questions or wants more information the easy thing to do is just go to moms for liberty.org right when you go to that website you don't have to sign on or anything it'll pop up Title 9 information I mean just boom it's right there and it'll give you all kinds of information the facts which it was like two or three pages I just kind of minimized it um and what we can also do Statewide Federal and here we are talking about at our local school board so thank you thank you thank you and then you'll send

one to thank you Abby mik hi I'm Abby mik and I'm GNA go on her shirttails this is actually a mom's Liberty template but being used for parents across the country also for um using to address their school board so I'm just saying this is definitely my viewpoint but not my original letter it's I'm just using their template so attention School Board I am writing to bring your attention to recent developments regarding changes to title n regulations proposed by the Department of Education which may have significant implications for our school district as a concerned parent within the community I feel it is essential for our school board members to be aware of these developments and their potential impact on our educational environment the Department of Education has recently released a revised Title 9 rule scheduled

to go into effect on August 1st 2024 this rule expands the definition of sex discrimination to include various factors such as sex stereotypes sexual orientation and gender identity furthermore it mandates changes in school policies related to access to facilities due process protections for students accused of sexual misconduct and the use of preferred pronouns by teachers and students while these changes are slated to take effect in August it is important to note that there is anticipated legal action including requests for preliminary injunctions which may delay the Implement implementation of these rules for some time additionally school districts are not obl ated to align their policies with the new regulations at this time as a parent I am deeply concerned about the potential implications of these changes on women and girls our constitutional protections and fundamental parental

rights to be clear this new rule strips parents of their fundamental rights to direct the upbringing of their child no secret should be kept from parents especially concerning matters that directly impact the well-being and education of our children it is essential that parents are fully informed and involved in decisions that affect their children's schooling experience I kindly request acknowledgement of receipt of this letter furthermore I would appreciate any information you can provide regarding how Title 9 has been handled within our school district up to this point and any changes that have been proposed or may be considered in response to the proposed rural change transparency and open communication are crucial in addressing these important issues I urge the school board to closely monitor these developments and consider the potential impact on our student staff and

educational programs it is crucial to ensure that any changes made to school policies are transparent respectful of parental rights and in the best interest of all students I appreciate your attention to this matter and would welcome the opportunity to discuss it further thank you for your dedication to serving our community and ensuring the wellbeing of our children and then should I could just give this to you Jan and um I'm not sure how many of you um saw in the in any of the news headlines but recently there was um track state tournament had had a boy who identified as a female who qualified for state which knocked one potential girl you know candidate out of the out of the running or to qualify for State who had had a personal record I believe at

her qualifying race and um and then I believe that ultimately he ended up winning state for that I can't remember it was 400 I can't remember which race it was but anyways um you know those things are obviously they're already starting to happen in the state so the quicker we can you know get to the topic and the issue and get the I guess the conversation going and and kind of be on top of it because I just I don't understand because I I just attended and I didn't just years ago I was with my sister on a visit to her College uh University of Hartford and she was working on the um fundraiser committee for for the athletic department and we attended a very fancy banquet Awards dinner which recognized um one of their

female coaches who was coaching one of their women's teams and she was and I I don't remember I was not really into girl Sports and college sports but she was had been instrumental in Title Nine in the development of it and now here we are I feel like a big fat slap in the face of tile nine and I don't understand what's going on with it but anyways this is my two cents to Jana's comment thank you thank you everybody for um the courage to come up and talk to the board I know sometimes public speaking is really scary um but it's greatly appreciated so thank you and um I think now we are going to close out our regular session and move into executive session so we will yeah recess we will be coming

back into Open session after we're done with the executive session so for those who plan on sticking around we will U make sure everyone's aware that we are coming back out of um executive session and for those online as well um I think we're okay yeah so second link on the web page where you found the first one um so thank you
