Thankfully, I hope it was nice and cool. >> There it is. Here outside this earlier, actually, what else? I Oh, this feels good for about two seconds. Now, it's hot. Get seated. um with our um meeting in open session, we open the public hearing part of our 2627 budget. So if there's any any um one that wants to speak about that uh minutes um I had something uh let's see one two three four six and seven paragraphs I feel like maybe there's a little bit of repetitiveness. >> Okay. Um anyway, about the middle of the seventh paragraph I feel reads the same and I don't know if it's just a flow thing, but I just wanted to point it out. >> Would you like to amend them? >> Um I guess everyone look at it
and see if they see what I see. >> Where are we looking at the open board the minutes from the uh regular board meeting on May 11th? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> The says bill and financials were reviewed. >> Um let's see. So make sure I didn't get my stuff out of order. So it is right below minutes. The next paragraph um just says table till June um D2627. And then on the next paragraph says we discussed tableabling it. Just to me it's just twice as all however it float there. had to catch something. Sheriff Fay is gone. She always caught that stuff. So thing I see on the minutes for both meetings. >> Motion to approve the minutes. >> Do you want me to amend them or do you want to >> So what
do you guys think? Did you read through and think it was weird or fine? >> It's I'm okay with not messing with it. >> I'll approve second. Those in favor? Five. >> Any additions or modifications to the consent agenda? >> Yes, sir. >> Perfect. Um, bills. Anyone have anything jump out at them on the bills? Only thing I asked Bill a little bit. Um, seems like our grade school is up on power consumption and cost, which obviously they flow together. Um, we weren't sure if it's just maybe the thermostats are a smidgen higher or what, but some maybe investigate. It's not a lot, but it's been every month for quite a while. A handy par graph, Hillary. Thank you. do the years of service thing. Used to do the the golf course thing. Not doing
that anymore, right? >> Did a little in house thing on last day for teachers. Save money. any board members that had a significant pin. >> I feel there may have been. >> Oh, okay. We'll venture into that in July. >> Okay. >> Any other bills? Okay. Um, next uh thing is approval of 2627 academic calendar. >> Explain. >> Okay. So this is uh this is the about the best we could come up with. Um we are looking at starting the week before Labor Day which is unusual but um probably going to be a one-year deal depending on how the calendar falls out next year. Just that last that seventh is really throws us up. Uh so we would have staff return uh to the building on the 17th or excuse me not 17 >> 24
is it? Uh so that would be our inservice week. School would start on August 31st. So uh we did uh take Friday the 4th as a non-contract day just to give people you're here for two weeks. Got your feedback on you know a little bit longer weekend to make sure things are good. Uh and then it starts to roll. Um the going the week before allowed the calendar to kind of fall in its natural spots. Um like for example, semester 3 is done before right before spring break versus having to go the week after spring break and end semester. So it fell nicely. Uh it has us getting out really the exact same time that we do now. Uh and so that all fit. Uh it did meet the instructional requires uh instructional hours requirement
uh from Governor Cotek's executive order. Uh we're about 20 I'm going to say 20 hours between about 20 hours over. So it doesn't give us a whole lot of flex in there. Uh so there definitely is a possibility and I added that to the the June that if we needed to make up days uh because we're short, we're going to have to make up days. Uh so that's there. Otherwise, it's really pretty traditional. One thing that we did change uh at the request of Mr. feeler is that we've been doing our parent so you can no longer count parent teacher conference time on your instructional time which we never really did anyway. Uh you also count can't count PD time. Um and so he had a request from his staff uh to do um a
late Wednesday. So have school on Wednesday for parent teacher conferences. Go 8 to 4 whatever. And then go conferences 4 to 8. So you go a long day on Wednesday and then another long 8 to 8 day on Thursday and then nothing on Friday on contract day on Friday. Um so it actually helps us a little bit in terms of time. Uh and that was the request that that he had from his staff. Uh it seemed to work okay for them. So uh we were going to try to do the same thing. There's two sets of of uh grade school parent teacher conferences. Just one set for the high school in November. Uh their other one is in April uh that first week back from spring break. Yeah. So otherwise it it falls okay. We
are talking about a couple couple of contracts ago. U the certified staff negotiated a a little 45minute common prep period which we put on Friday afternoon. Uh we'd like to keep that. This hasn't been set in stone yet, but we have been talking about the idea of adding a little bit of time to Monday through Thursday. So, going more about 15 minutes more, I'm going to say, and then carving another hour off of Friday. So, kids would be done in about be done about 1:30 uh at the grade school, for example, which would give Mr. Fielder about an hour and 20 minutes of PD time every Friday, and then they would get their common prep time on Friday. So, I mean, there's a trade-off for everything, but the fact that this this schedule really has
very little professional development time in it, and so that would allow us kind of a consistent, it's not a huge amount of time, uh, but enough time to get some things done, maybe to have some meetings, uh, and so again, uh, it's what we're playing with right now to try to try to salvage some of that time back. Yeah, >> I know a lot of families like the last week of summer is kind of where they are like last for raw. So, this is going to be a totally different schedule than they're used to. So, how are we as a district going to from a PR perspective going to start letting people know that, hey, this is completely different than you've been used to for so many years. >> Ideas. We can try to assuming
that we can probably attach it to a synergy message. Do they have attachments? I don't use that message necess I can check in on that. >> You have any idea when you might lock in that Friday shuffle and we can do >> uh we're going to meet this week and I think it would be I mean we we all have agreed on it. I mean, if there's no, you guys can certainly tell me what you think about the idea. Uh, I think it had the grades getting out at instead of 255, I think they're done at 310. I think the high school was going to add instead of 315 go 326. So, the high school was going to have a little less time on F, but we got to match the buses up too. It's
a little bit um but it kind of fit it kind of fit what we were looking for in terms of that extended a little bit more time on Fridays to to have meetings and to be able to PD things. Those things we do have the interim assessments coming in so all the teachers at the K level are going to be using a new testing system which is a little bit scary. Um you we've got new curriculum, you know, we've got plenty to do. I don't know. I get to see lumping the two together. You know, here's our new date and here's a new >> here's the good, you know, actually physically mail it as well as all the email. >> Yeah. >> Flood it. I don't want to surprise for someone still doing it mass
mail when they don't come back to school. >> Talked about doing something like that. If we could lock in times and everything all in one place, that would be >> like a little bit spent financially will offset when >> surprise >> when it messes someone's vacation they spend a bunch of money on or something. >> Sorry, it's really simple. >> You talked about, you know, last board meeting about the executive order people taking into a survey. Any of that done? >> No. Uh well, yes. Uh the Department of Education did do a survey. All I did was give them information. I haven't been back. >> I don't know what they're going to do. Do you know of any other districts that are going before the Labor Day week? >> Oh, I think the Vulkar. Yeah.
Just the way it fell. >> It falls, right? >> My hope was that they would come back with a set number of hours for everybody that's even. >> Yeah. >> Because right now it's still all >> varies by district. Doesn't make a lot of sense. >> We got penalized, right? good for our kids but messed with our other plan. Uh there was another district that I think it was Pacific Line was they were in the exact same boat we were. They had made plans to go 4A 4 day. They had four. Okay. Um everyone good with that calendar? No. Um the next thing is approve to adopt curriculum. Um I know I have some some concerns the fact that I haven't seen the curriculum. Um it falls a little bit in some of our other
ways we approve things that we look at the recommendation of a committee. Can you explain at least the process build? Uh so yeah it's usually the teachers that are connected to that curriculum. So obviously social studies teachers would gather we have two different groups middle school group and a high school group that and typically they'll Uh the they used to do caravans in person where you would go to the ESD and like all the books would be laid out and see them. I think a lot of it now is virtual, but they spend uh a little bit of time looking at the curriculums and deciding which one. I think there were probably four or five uh social science curriculums. There was only one approved um high school health curriculum. uh in the grade school we
adopted last year which was great body shop which is um >> so there was only one option for the high school >> one option >> on the approval I shared the adoption schedule with you just so you see it that's a set uh schedule from the state um you know our concern usually is how much are these going to cost because the the curriculum is not getting any cheaper Um and so uh the English language arts is always very expensive, math is very expensive, science is relatively expensive, social studies is relatively expensive. Um and so yeah, an interesting process, but I will say that we are up to date and I would imagine the principles would have the opportunity to review that if they wanted to. only use certain parts. So they can you can
change. >> Okay. >> So the principles can modify >> the modify what is >> as well as the teacher. Yeah. I mean every every Yeah. Every person's going to have a little ability to >> how much time you spend on it. Um let's see. approved to reissue fall coaching, summer fall coaching, and summer fall extracurricular contracts. Um, I think there's been quite a bit of discussion on certain parts of the list, but feel like steps have been put in order to make things, in my opinion, acceptable. Anyone else on the list? Good. Okay. >> Approval to hire summer learning staff. Looks like Kim Guile is running the program. Um, looks like they're all current staff members doing it. Perfect. Uh, summer school teacher Amy Thornberg. Uh, summer, like I said, that's high school credit recoveries.
recovery spec program cook Tammy Babwis from grade school. Uh got a couple pipe movers, Madison Hullman and Aiden Strand. It's called pipe movers, but all the stuff in the hallway you guys seen was all them cleaning classrooms. Rancher splash pipe garden interns. I assume interns is just they're just doing it for fun or is it a paid position? I think we're paid. >> It's a paid position but school success both students. >> Great. And then uh Ken Martinson Martinez. Gez. Yep. Education assistant special ed 2627. uh review of certified staff not returning for 2627. Susan Clark uh may may come on as a case case worker role. Perfect. Um Janelle Edmonds is moving on with her family. Good luck to her. And Olivia Ferrario, it's heading elsewhere as well. Um, next thing we have is
a resignation from Becky Croen. Um, special ed a age. She's retiring, you said. Excellent. And approval of boys and girls cross country co-op opportunity with Harrisburg. Would you like to speak on that? Yeah, we just have low numbers and Mason and I talked about it and even knows were coaches for several years and I mean they wanted us to be on their team last year and just with the low numbers it's our girls have never had a team and they reclassified things for our district this year so they only need four girls to be a scoring team and I think that's a great opportunity for my league. She's always try to go to state on our own. So, um the only downside is we will bump up to sura, which I think is fine. It's
just gonna make the kids work harder. So, I think it's a great opportunity for kids to have a scene and >> you be an assistant. >> Um I don't know how that works. Like Nathan and I plan on still being like Monroe involved. I don't know. We never co-op before. I know we're running under Harrisburg, but like yeah, Mason still wants to I mean, he's planning on I don't know how transportation works, assuming the school district rides after the kids. I mean, we'll probably have like five kids take a van. Nathan would do that. So, yeah. I I I'd like to actually um How does the transportation work when we co-op? >> We've rarely co-opted out, so it's not something that we've done a lot of. Uh, we've co-oped a lot with LC in my
time. Um, and originally it was just kids got in the car and drove. They've done a great job of transporting uh I could easily see with four or five kids uh using a van and and you know paying for that. Um it's a little bit of cost but it's here to Harrisburg. It's not huge huge thing. I would think that from a my perspective and our perspective that it'd be a lot less liability to do that, you know, probably a better experience for them, right? Be my it's worked out well when teams have done that when they co-op. It seems to be helpful. I don't like the idea of kids getting in cars at LC every day and then driving home every night. >> You have one one baseball player on the LC access on
his way over here. So I think if they're in a >> but that's not that we say you have to ride the bus you know what I mean it's so I mean some of them did drive themselves because >> opportunity >> but it's something we could think so >> I think so I mean I talked to the bus >> what are the numbers at Harrisburg cross country >> um we had a meeting with them and I think they have like oh I don't know like nine boys and then like five girls. Girls are always kind of low, but then I mean it's an opportunity for them to have like a varsity and JV team, which I mean we've had that before, but >> you said four makes a team now >> For the girls. Okay.
>> Yeah. The girls numbers have always been low. So they're trying to get it so they can have girls have an actual team. So for the boys, they still do seven on it. >> Excellent. >> Okay, with that, that's our consent agenda. >> Wants the motion. >> Motion to approve the consent agenda as stated. >> I'll second. >> Those in favor? >> I >> uh communications Looks like we have a thank you letter to Rogers Farms. Let's see what they what they give us. Unistrut some stuff for the shop. >> Yep. Excellent. And then a thank you letter to LCC welding department. So, it's great that we're working together with college and people involved. And the smiles, that's quite the thing. I always amazed at this. Very cool. >> Uh delegations and presentations. Um, sounds
like Lily has already moved on our April student of the month, but we'll try and get that to her or did you? >> Yeah, it's we easily get >> sounds great. Uh, construction update building inspection committee. So, we're traveling down the the the seismic rehabilitation path. Um, they are doing testing right now. So, now the kids are out. They're going to be doing some intrusions uh in the building. Um and then going into the engineering final engineering phase. Uh we do need to to move into the selection of a CMGC. Um and so that's a little bit later in the agenda, but uh there's a couple of pieces that we need to cover this meeting and then a couple that we need to cover in July. Uh and then maybe a few more in August
so we can get keep all that on track. They're concerned about letting the schedule get away from them. So yeah. So that no other I don't think there's any other no other projects big projects. >> No roofing or something. >> Is there any way we can paint the shed at school? >> That is on my list. Okay. Yep. >> Um haven't got a plan yet, but yeah, the garage. Yeah, the garage. Yeah. No, I I told them that that's going to get done this. >> Nice. Oh, I know the Dragon Pride had money for to help with the track. >> So, they came out last week and they uh pressure wash the whole thing. >> Oh. >> Which made it quite a bit nicer than I would have thought. It would looks really nice. Uh
they're going to they're going to repaint they're going to fill cracks and repaint this week. >> So, I haven't seen them yet, but that'll be done by the end of the week, as far as I know. >> Was that us funded or Dragon Pride funded? >> Dragon Pride came up with all of Perfect. Very cool. Appreciate that. Um, any plans? I mean, I know the building committee, you guys are doing other things, but any plans to try and get together this summer? >> I mean, we can go take an inspection. >> Yeah. >> But I budget wise, we're not going to be doing a lot. >> True. Um, yeah, I know, you know, budget thing, but you know, with the graduations and everything and those those carpet and then the mainly the doors that are
just >> Yeah, those two doors are about >> so rusted out and just look awful. >> Those are all things we pointed out last time. >> Yeah, I hope that we can fit those in somewhere. Okay. Um, enrollment and attendance. Looks like we're too too different than where we were right now. >> Yep. >> Last year. It's interesting. It did peak whenever everyone came back, but then it >> went to the same place almost >> or online you said is probably in the 15. have a hard time. >> So going to the seven periods, is that going to make it harder for the online students to come and get their their electives here? >> I don't think so. It's I mean it's going to be more of a daily schedule versus I don't have to
show up tomorrow. So it might it might be harder to I think might not be as convenient. as you look at it. We do have a handful of kids that do that to do both. >> Um administrative update, you're the administrator, Richard, we had a graduation and a promotion that both very well attended. Um, >> so all that went pretty well except for the slideshow music. I'm still not sure what happened. >> It was sad that it didn't play, but I think there was a lot less tears. >> Yeah. Without me without the music, but I thought they did a good job. Appreciate you guys coming out. It always amazes me how the community comes out. Again, the high school graduation was full. >> Yeah, it was full. Yep. >> That's one of the big
old time too. >> And then the parade, you know, the whole family line. >> It's pretty neat. >> At the high school they did the American flag assembly and so all the classrooms have American flags and then few more to go. >> Uh talked about the cross country cooperative with Harrisburg there. Uh we did have um nine students receive just under $40,000 scholarships from the local scholarships fund. >> Um so that was great. Uh there's a lot of scholarships they get that aren't in that. So like the airport rotary or those kinds of things. Kids did a good job there. Um uh and then we talked about the schedule. Uh just some some staffing adjustments and and looking at the seven period day. going to try to do a a one class down for middle
school next year for the eighth graders. So that's something we're excited to see how that works out then the past, but it's always been here. Think would be nice to be able to send somebody down there. Yeah. Checked out on Tuesday. It's June officially checked out on Tuesday. >> I forgot to check. >> Goodness. >> I'm still locked. Excellent. Um, so no old business. Um, new business. Um, does anyone in the crowd have any comments on the budget? Okay. Anyone in the board have anything they'd like to say about the budget? Okay. With that, we need to approve our budget as presented in the budget committee meeting. >> Motion to approve the budget. >> Second, those in favor. >> Okay. >> Um, now we have some resolutions. Um, let's see. 2526-01, transfer revenue between funds.
Um, so that's the the transfer that we've been doing for a few years now where we've uh created the little buckets if you will uh or uh CCT fund is the construction excise tax bond. Uh that's basically a facilities fund. Uh textbooks uh like I said textbooks kind of run up and down. Sometimes it's $80,000, sometimes it's 10. Uh so it really depends on the year. Uh our goal with that textbook fund is to have enough there to kind of project out and be able to have a stable source of funding so we don't have to do what we had to do in several years past which is not adopted. Um the technology fund pretty obvious obvious we we run on computers and Chromebooks. Uh we've uh been in a Chromebook lease for two years
now maybe three years maybe this year. Uh so that's going to be interesting to see what kind of comes out of that if you want to continue something like that or do something different. But even just staff, computers and infrastructure is, you know, we're pretty consistently uh changing uh infrastructure pieces just so our Wi-Fi works. And again, just trying to put something there so that if you know if we need something or something goes wrong. And then uh a little bit of uh the PER fund which is uh kind of our version of a stability fund. Uh the purge costs are projected to go up as our bond ends in 2027. So we're trying to make sure that that doesn't come of surprise to us. We just want to make sure we have money there.
We need it for those costs because those are passed directly onto the district. Hillary wants to add >> when these when we originally created these funds they were all in the 900's account and they are in the 256 budget in the 900 account in 2627 which is the 101 102 103. So these if you are really following the budget closely that question why but um we wanted to get them out of this 900 fund because of the way we have to report the OD but no build. >> Okay. Can we go through all of them and approve them? Looks like as one one through four. Yeah, it's all one. Yeah, it's all one. Yes. Y >> a motion to approve um one through four. >> Oh go favor. >> Okay. Uh the second page is
another set of transfers. These three transfers we end up doing every year. Uh so we're taking dollars out of the general fund. We're putting dollars towards the food service program which as you guys know does not run from the black. It runs very much in red. Uh constantly trying to get that under wraps but haven't figured out the magic yet. Uh the athletic funds. So that's your your coaches, your buses, uh officials, all the costs that fair all of athletics except you know middle school to high school self loan is a loan we're paying off I think that loan paid some lighting and paid for some windows many years ago before I think it's done in like 30 two >> um it'll be done next year we still have like six more months of it
yeah and I think it was a I think it was a big boiler project >> yeah it might it's energy related uh energy savings Yeah. >> Uh and then the smile fund, we get a grant, we pay it, and then they pay us some dollars back. >> Yeah. We have to chip in a percentage of it. And so this is for the middle school grade school club. >> So that's another set. >> And that's the max amount that we would transfer. I mean, we haven't reconciled athletics yet because we haven't we don't have our final transportation invoices. We don't have our final we haven't our final payroll for food service. So, but I mean this is an estimate of what the maps would be. I'll motion to approve resolution 2526-2 of that. >> Hey, there
you go. Second. Those in favor? Hi. >> Uh, adopting the budget and making appropriations. So, this is 256. cuz we're doing that in this fiscal year. >> See that the resolution up top says 2565. >> Oh, that should be 256. >> 25 26 just 03 not right. Oh, I see. Let's change those. Yeah. approve resolution 2526-03 >> in favor. >> Okay. And the I see why you're getting all these out of the way. imposing and categorizing taxes 2526-04. U this is always the not so fun part but it's part of it and that rate has not changed or keep for resolution 2526-04. >> I'll second. >> Okay. Those in favor. >> What keeps the doors open? All right. >> Uh, next order of business, identify and appoint RFP construction committee members. Uh, but what I
need is a team of two be willing to be the construction the seismic construction committee. Uh, the biggest task that we would have, it's really not a huge task is we would have to select the CMGC. So, we'll put out an RFP uh in July. We'll solicit uh contractors to to do that work for us. Last time it was girding, did all six years of it. Um and so we'll sit down with the applications that we get in, spend a little bit of time going through them. lava matrix decision with and then uh the other so not only that but then the item D is uh you guys deciding if you trust that committee of two plus myself to make that RFP selection which would be great because that way we can keep travel >>
yeah sounds good um I know myself so I was in on all the other construction off uh the first time we did and and uh I would wouldn't mind I feel fairly familiar with the process so I wouldn't mind being one of the two >> well I I haven't you guys out there I don't mind doing it as well >> that's okay >> or you wanted to do it correctly you might >> it doesn't matter either one of us so >> I um I just like I said I'm not on any of the committees or anything. So that's why I'm volunteering. But I'm going to be honest with you. You probably are more >> have more knowledge of it than I would. >> I would I would like to do it actually. >> I can
I can be out. >> Nope. You you do it. I just >> I just didn't want I mean I know you guys are all doing a lot and I'm not on anything yet. So I didn't want you guys to think that I wasn't >> Yeah, there's stuff my feelings not. >> Okay. The first me you don't show. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Exactly. that I just >> Thank you, Lori. Yeah. Okay, Chris and I >> I think I do need to vote on the other just Yeah. So, letter D uh vote to authorize uh the construction committee, Chris and I, um to choose a contractor. So, >> a motion to second that. >> Those in favor? I uh rep review and approve July 26 board meeting date. Um so it looks like 13th is what you're
shooting for. I should ask the boss anything on July 13th. That shouldn't be a huge really I think it's just going to be into a couple of sizing pieces plus the whole business. If >> if a person isn't in town, could they be on by um >> we can figure that out? If you have to this one, we can. Okay. Long as we have three. >> Trina and I are in that all the way. That's why she wants to be on board. No. >> Yeah, we >> are we keeping the same times. >> We want to keep the same time. I mean, that's fine. Mean asking for everybody else. >> Yeah, I think just stay with it. So, you're not >> This one's an hour different. And then I did push back to August 17th.
And so it's not the second Monday. It's actually the third. >> Okay. It works for me, but it also kind of sits a little bit better in there. It's not quite I suppose you >> and I I imagine if we approve F, we approve E essentially working for everyone. So F is review and approve the 267 board meeting dates a whole. So the whole year where Oh, okay. You see a motion now? >> Yeah. >> Motion to approve the 26 27 proposed school board meeting dates. >> Second. >> Those in favor? >> I. >> Okay. Uh, no public call for worms. So, with that, I guess we adjourn 7:22. First time I learned You know, would it be easier for Nate to send stuff from work to Parisburg and then have a bus take the
kids get to Harrisburg or a van? No, I think he would be fine coming here, picking up the beds
