call the uh special session to order to interview our five candidates we have for open board position number one. We have five interviews tonight. Um just a quick reminder that we must ask everybody the same questions. We can ask all the questions their answers, but um make sure that if you ask the question for the first candidate, we ask it for all the other candidates. And if we're in number two, we can't ask anything different than we asked with number one. >> So, if we're going to go rogue and add a question, ask the un first. >> That's right. If you're gonna go rogue, ask the first time. >> You wouldn't pick the order of who's asking my question. >> Yes. Um just want to go you want to start with number one and then
I'll start two three and four. Are we good with that? Good. For every for every candidate >> sounds good. >> All right. Any other questions from the board? >> Sorry. >> Nope. >> They have a copy at their place. >> Okay. >> And it's taped there so they won't take it but just >> and thank you jump for all that. >> Yes. But anybody can again ask the followup question even if you didn't ask the initial question. >> Yeah. for them to explain it a little answer. Absolutely. >> All right, let's go ahead and have our first candidate. >> First candidate, right? you get to be right there in front of. >> Hi, >> welcome. >> Thank you. >> So, maybe we introduce ourselves as we ask the question. >> Yeah, we can actually start
going around. We'll introduce ourselves and then we're each going to ask questions. So, >> okay. Sherry Reedman. Hi Sherry, nice to see you. >> Adria P, our friend Teresa Cade. >> So I have first question. >> Okay. And it's in front of you as well. >> So please introduce yourself and share about why you're interested in being a school board member. Please identify a particular interest or skill such as public relations, budget, negotiation, evaluation, long range planning, facilities, policy, etc. you would bring to the board. >> Okay. So, my name is Sumpre Wagner. Uh, recently we just moved to Mount Angel. Um, my husband grew up here, so that's why we moved back. Um, I have a daughter that is 12 years old. She's in middle school and I have a son that's a fourth
grader, so they're brand new to the school system, but they absolutely love it because this is where their dad went to school. Um, and I really wanted to be a part of the school board is because I love community. I love to be a part of um just a place where I can help out and volunteer as much as possible. I would really love to implement the volunteer program. I come from Sherwood. had a robust parent organization where we had parent volunteers and actually a board member that was supposed to do par volunteers for every single grade going all the way up to I want to say it was sixth grade and then when they went off to seventh grade um it was kind of a different school system and I didn't get there because
my kids were in uh Catholic school beforehand so this our our little ones were like in public school so that's What I would love to implement and see a part of the program is to put a parent parent volunteer for every single group and just get more interest in community um service events. Yes. >> Right. I have question number two. >> Okay. >> How do you see yourself as a contributing member of the Manning Angel School Board? I see myself contributing to the school board by um being just trying to implement volunteering and just trying to um see exactly where I can fit in and where where things are are needing the help. I am a helper. Um, I love to when I worked at this, uh, when I was part of the volunteer for
the CIO program, um, that's the Christian youth organization at St. St. Uh, Francis. I was actually um the fundraiser support and I loved it because it was fun because it was actually something that I could organize and we were able to um get uniforms for it and actually go to tournaments and and uh for for all the funds that we raised. So we did the braids, the butter braids, but then we moved to coffee and then then we did dances. And so we started finding um my favorite was the gift wrapping where we actually held like a mom's mimosa gift wrapping thing where you pay $10 and we had a lot of mothers in there gift wrapping for the last time and people um we had grandparents that actually donated to our gift wrapping party.
So that was a lot of fun. >> I have number three. How do you believe a school member can be the most effective in making long lasting substantial positive changes for students? I think um as a member you can be involved um and see exactly what when when you do meet identify the opportunities that are out there to be a part of a community because I I think striving to of community involvement coming from from a big town to a small town. I really love the small town because this actually reminds me a lot of our St. Francis community where a lot of parents knew each other and so kind of implementing that community atmosphere is huge. >> Okay. And is there anything else that you would like to share or for the board to
consider? I think that I really think that I would be a good member of the board because I do think that there there could be a potential opportunity for me to grow the volunteer piece. I mean, that's what I want to see at the school. And I think when I came here um first, I didn't really see any of that in when initially when I got through with the school. I mean, I love Kimberly. She's wonderful. But then a lot of teachers were like, "Oh, we don't have volunteers in our classrooms to help with with these with certain things and ratings and everything like that because of COVID." And I was like, couldn't believe that we were still on COVID standards, you know, here because we were so open up in Sherwood. So, I just
really would love to see that implemented here. Even if I don't make the board, I really want to push that through. I'm part of the parent committee, too. Great. We're good. >> Okay. >> All right. Yeah. >> And it is our it is our um agenda on the agenda tonight to appoint somebody to the position. So you will know tonight >> whether you have asked to fill a position. >> Okay. Well, great. Thank you. And I'm so excited to hear and so excited to to see what happens. Good to hear you. Feel free to take a minute or two to jot some notes down. >> All right. Well, whatever. Great. >> That's funny. >> All right. Sit right there. Front center. And there's a copy of the question in front of you. All right. >>
Hello, Jacqueline. >> Hello. >> Thanks for coming tonight. >> We're gonna go around and introduce ourselves and then uh we are gonna each ask a question. Uh the questions are in front of you. First we're going to start with Sherry >> Sherry Reedman. Nice to see you. >> Nice to see you. >> Andrea F, >> Mark Brendon, >> Teresa K. >> Yeah, Sherry's got our first question. Okay, >> Jacqueline. >> Um so please introduce yourself and share about why you're interested in being a school board member. These identify particular interest force skills such as public public relations, budget, negotiation, evaluation, long range planning, facilities, policy, etc. you would bring to the board. >> Sure. So, um my name is Jacquine. Um I grew up in this school district, so I've attended um both middle school
and high school here. Um and education is a very strong priority for me. Um I was able to go through school and get advanced degrees. So, it's something that I've tried to ensure that um is an opportunity for my child and for other children that she associates with and that need help. Um so, any um as far as particular interests or skills um currently in my role, I'm in finance with um healthcare. So, and I'm on the budget committee here for the school board. So, working on budgets, understanding what they mean, how those line what those items mean, you know, how we need to reallocate funds, things like that are all part of kind of day-to-day work for me. So being able to participate in that would be something I could offer. Um negotiations, I
negotiate contracts with large insurance companies that you know can be significant. So that's something that I can also bring as well. Long range planning, um budget planning and doing three five-year plans are also something that I work with especially with policies and implementing policies and creating policies as well in my current roles. Um ensuring that they not only support the department or division goals but also organizational goals. So looking at the kind of um immediate effects as well as widespread effects and long-term effects of those policies as well. So um you feel there's a wide variety of skills I could bring. >> Just take one one moment. Finish my notes. Great. Number two, how do you see yourself as a contributing member of the Manning Joel School Board? >> Um, I think bringing those skill
sets to any initiatives that we have supporting our long range goals, our strategic plan would be something that I would be able to help be contributing. Um, coming up with ideas on how we can further support those initiatives, how we can take them to the next level be something I would love to be a part of. um being able to think outside of the box and come up with different ideas that may not have been explored or just even come up with, you know, the random idea that can spark the conversation that evolves into something great. Um that's all part of something that I believe I could contribute um as part of the board. >> Uh how do you believe a school board member can be most effective in making long-term longlasting substantial positive changes
for students? Um, as far as long-term substantial positive changes, I think the school board is responsible for looking at the district as a whole. We can't just look at one school. We can't just look at one demographic. We have to look at the entirety of the school population amongst multiple data points and determine what would be the best route for the majority of students. Um the school board is responsible for ensuring that the initiatives that we put forth, any plans that are presented are going to support the greater amount of the population of the community as well as the students, not just one subsect of that community. Okay. So, is there anything else that you would like to share or like to share or for the board to consider? >> Um, I'm not sure if
the group had an opportunity to review the um application or the information that was submitted, but um I think everything that's on there is anything. I would just like to reiterate um the opportunity to participate and do um some help impact positively would be something I would like to be a part of. Um being on the budget committee has been a great insight into the school board and what is going on in the school board, the plans that you know the school district has. Um, again, education being a passion of mine and ensuring that my daughter has the opportunities to be able to advance and excel in school, something I really um hold important and would like to ensure that her and other students have that opportunity as well. Um so along with the budget
committee just being part of multiple groups that the committee that the district and schools have you know created whether it be parents groups whether it be you know a DI committee whether it be the strategic plan whatever it be um I've been part of multiple groups like that and being able to provide input in those committees and just continuing that on a larger scale would be an opportunity I'd like to see. >> Right. Thank you so much. Uh we are going to uh make a decision tonight. >> Okay. >> So if you are have been chosen by the board uh we will let you know tonight. >> Sounds great. >> All right. Thank you so much for coming in. >> Thank you. sit kind of right in front of the whole center. Awesome. >> Love
it. >> Hello everybody. My name is Sam. >> Thanks for joining us tonight. Um, >> thanks for having me. >> Yeah. go around and introduce ourselves. >> Okay. >> And uh then we'll each ask a question. The questions are in front of you, but take as long as you need to think about your answer. >> Okay. >> Sherry Reedman, >> hi Sherry. Nice to meet you. >> Andrea Fa, >> nice to meet you. >> Mark Brendon, nice to meet you. >> Teresa K, >> nice to meet you. >> Okay, I have first question. Sam, please introduce yourself and share about why you're interested in being on the school board. As a schoolboard member, please identify a particular interest or skill such as public relations, budget, negotiation, evaluation, long range planning, facilities, policy, etc. you would
bring to the board. >> Uh well, my name is Sam Trager, born and raised here. Uh I don't have any particular uh education towards board or any past knowledge on a board. Uh but I do run a small business which I run all by myself which I have to budget and communicate on a daily basis with subs and customers and try to get that in budget in time and what they expect. All right. Number two, how do you see yourself as a contributing member of the manageel school board? >> How do I see myself? Well, I'm passionate and I love working on a team. Whether that was in sports or uh like I touched on previously with my job, I have to work with other people and be a team member because it's not just
me. There's subs each day that I have to deal with. And I just Yeah, I just love being a part of a team. How do you believe a school board member can be most effective in making longl lasting substantial positive changes for students? Given the best possible schooling they could possibly get, make the school uh fit their individual needs uh for each student um from day one to the very last day. Get him the right tools as individual student to go out into the world because if we don't have the students, we got nothing. Okay. So, is there anything else you would like to share or for the board to consider? Um, the only thing I would say is I'm very passionate about this school district in general, students, mostly because I am born and
raised here. And I want each student, each child that comes here to have the same great experience I did. And one of the best things about public school is the special ed program. And I spent every single year of school in the special ed program. And that's something you don't get in other places and I feel like you can get lost in other places. But with that, that was individualized for each student to help them succeed. And I feel like that was a great thing from this public school. Okay. Thank you Sam. Uh we are going to finish interviewing the candidates and then we'll be making a decision tonight. >> Well, thank you everybody. Thanks for your consideration and you >> Thank you. get to sit right here. Everybody was wishing luck in here. There
you go. Hi, Peter. We are My name is Andrew Pow. I'm board chair. We're going to go around and introduce ourselves. Um and then we are going to each ask you a question. The questions are in front of you. Uh, please feel free to take as long as you need to think about the question. >> Okay, >> we're gonna start right over here. >> I am Sherry Reedman, >> Andrea Val, >> Mark Brendan, >> Teresa Concaid, >> and Jerry's gonna start with our first question. >> Barnett. >> Yes. Yes. So, um, please introduce yourself and share about why you're interested in being a school board member. Please identify a particular interest or skill such as public relations, budget, negotiation, evaluation, long range planning, facilities, policy, etc. you would bring to the board. >> How much
time do I have? >> You need Okay. Um, the reason why I applied for the position is because having spent 40 years in human resource management, I have uh been very concerned about the educational level and the ability of people coming out of school, out of high school and their ability to function at an appropriate level in any workspace. Um, recently I I found that many people looking for work don't even know how to fill out an application. Either they can't read or they can't write. They cannot construct a sentence in a proper manner. Um, and in the interview process, it becomes apparent whether or not they can communicate with people. Communication is a a big issue of people coming into the workplace because if you do not understand what you're being told and are
not able to process that, put it into some useful form in order to in order to do the job. It uh it makes it very difficult. Employers have to train people. They have to teach them English. Uh they have to teach them grammar. They have to teach them how to spell. They have to teach them math in in cases. And uh I just noticed recently that Oregon is last in reading comprehension of all 50 states, even behind Mississippi, Alabama, and Oklahoma. But and they're not much better in math comprehension. Uh something's got to be done. Whatever we've been doing here in Oregon hasn't worked. um by teaching experiences at the collegiate level and um fortunately for me I was teaching in degree completion programs for Portland State and Lynfield and the students there are motivated
because they're in the workplace already and and they want the education but uh I I was just talking to two classes at McNary High School two weeks ago and I'm telling them what it takes to uh get into the workplace and what's expected of them in the workplace and blank faces basically out of most of the kids that I'm talking to and that's with Ner High School. It's what it's one of the higher rated schools in the state as I understand it. So it uh we got a problem and one of the things I've been doing for a long time is solving problems and I think that maybe I might be able to contribute a little bit to solving the problem whatever it may be. I was just reading the article in Outlook about that
uh organization up in Portland that's trying to do something about the education in Oregon and um I don't know if another program is going to solve the problem. And I I'm almost to the point where I think we got to blow everything up and start over. I I just don't think we can continue adding program after program after program and expecting a program to solve the problems that the programs have been developing. I I don't I don't see it ending. Um so that's my long range goal is to get help somebody understand that we need to be changing something. Something's got to change. Um, I have an eighth grade uh exam from 18 95 I think. And most college students cannot pass that exam today. I've tried it in my class. Here, here's your test
for the day. You know, we just don't know. um budget. I've been responsible for budgets a long time and uh I'm actually kind of a fan of zerobased budgeting. Most people don't like it, but I think that's how you really control cost. If you're going to control cost, go to zerobased budgeting. I've been in situations where you're not allowed to spend any money in the first three quarters of the quarter. But at the end of the quarter, spend all you got because if you don't, we won't get more the next time. It's not the way to do it. Public relations. I've been doing public relations work a long time. Negotiation. Uh I went to law school to get in labor relations. Uh that's why I went to Lamut because Carlton Snow and uh what's the
other guy's name? that they had the best labor law section. That's why I went there. And I started out in human resource management doing labor relations, negotiating, and and what have you. Um, I have written policies on performance evaluations. I've written job descriptions for merit-based employment. Um, like I explained to Lisa earlier that people do not understand what it takes to do a job and most employers have a very difficult time describing a job because they want the job description to be this long when really it only needs to be this long to really do the job. And that's something I've been advocating for a long time is to, you know, four or five essential job functions. That's all you need. And then the performance evaluation shows you how to evaluate the performance in each
of those positions. Um, facilities, at one time I was a facilities manager for a a to hotel in Portland. Uh, what would I bring to the door? I'd like to think that I bring new ideas to the board, a different approach to how to get things done. >> Okay. Number two, how do you see yourself as a contributing member of the Mount Angel School Board? >> I ask a lot of questions. Uh, right now I'm not that familiar with the Mount Angel School District because I only been in Mount Angel for a year and a half. But, uh, I tend to spot things that other people don't spot and then I start asking questions. Uh, at couple times in my life, people have called me a problem solver. Uh, whether I am or not, my
wife thinks I am. So I think that's a good recommendation there on problem solv. But uh I I think it's important for people to be able to express their opinion and their perception of what's going on and to uh bring the different perceptions together and find some common ground that uh is going to solve the problem that we're facing at the time. That's Yeah, that's a good >> All right. How do you believe a school board member can be most effective in making long lasting substantial positive changes for students? >> Roll. Uh like I said, I just teaching talking to a couple of classes at McNary. you know, I'm I'm putting myself out there. I'm trying to help the kids understand what it takes to be successful in life. And uh I've done that through
my work. I've done that through my volunteer work. Uh and I've talked to a lot of kids in in other places. I I lived worked in California for quite a while. And uh I was always doing seminars at the local city colleges. um kids coming right out of high school and uh like I say, being a role model for people. Let me let me rephrase it. Being a good role model for the kids. >> So, is there anything else you would like to share or for the board to consider? I am really concerned about our where our educational system is going and since I'm living in Oregon and Oregon is uh I I think the elimination of the national uh whatever it is that McMahon's dismantling department of education I think that's a step in
the right direction but it also means the states are going to have to step up and improve their game. uh they not been doing a very good job in my estimation from what I've seen of kids coming out and coming into college and we got to find a better way to do it. A better way to deliver the education to the people so they all have the opportunity to excel. Granted, not everybody's created equal. Uh but everybody should be able to succeed up to their level. I believe in the Peter Peter principle. people promote get promoted up to their to the point where they're uh reach their own level of incompetence and everybody should be given that opportunity wherever that level may be All right, thank you Peter. Um, we are going to finish our
interviews and then we are going to have a discussion and uh appoint somebody this evening. So, thank you again so much for joining us and I would hate to be uh filling the vacancy that we have. >> I'm ready for the news whenever it is, >> but I'll be right outside just in case. Okay, go ahead. Right there. Front and center. Oh boy. >> Hi, Hannah. Thank you so much for joining us this evening. We're going to go around the room and introduce ourselves and then uh we will be each asking a question. The questions are in front of you. >> Okay. >> Feel free to take as much time as you need to answer the question. >> Okay. >> Hey Hannah, I'm Sher Reedman. >> Hi. >> Andrea Thouen. >> Teresa Concaid. >> Okay.
Hannah, I have the first question and again they are in front of you. Please introduce yourself and share about why you're interested in being a school board member. Please identify a particular interest or skill such as public relations, budget, negotiation, evaluation, long range planning, facilities, policy, etc. you would bring to the board. >> Well, my name is Hannah Munoz. I have lived in Mount Eagle for nine years. Not many people are familiar with me because I've been in school almost the entire time. So, I haven't been heavily involved in the community. However, I do have three children. Two have one is currently in the Mount Angel School District. One was up until freshman year, but I pulled him out and put him in online school. And then I have one 18-month-old. I would call him
a prospective student, so he's coming. Um, I have 24 years of teaching experience, and it's kind of a long story. I'll try to sum it up. So, at the age of 12 in junior high, I met this boy and we were like best friends with crushes on each other or whatever. And so, he brought me home. I met his mother. His mother adored me and she just kind of took me under her wing and she was getting her masters in teaching. And so, I went alongside her to the Warner Pacific co-op where she was um studying and working with children. And I continued that um until she eventually in 2024 I helped her build and I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with it. It's building blocks early learning center in Wilsonville. Um I
helped her build that school in Charbano in 2004 and I was in high school then. Um I graduated in 2007 but after school I would go to the preschool and I would volunteer work with children. and I did my senior project there and then eventually I started working there and my children you know my son was in the school at the age of one and my daughter she was like 3 days old so um they were with me when I was working there and I continued working off and on I took some leave to um uh finish out my academics and my schooling um because there was some scheduling conflict but um I continued that up until um November of last year and I decided the time for me to pursue other opportunities. But so
that's where my experiences is in learning, early learning education. Um, and there I was a guess well a main teacher, but I took on supervisor roles when uh she was like Regina when she she's the owner and operator when she would had would have to step out or take a leave. And so I had help run the school. Um, and currently I am in I'm getting my masters in legal studies through Northeastern University with the goal um, I'm currently studying for the ELSATs as well to get my JD. Um, and then after that my PhD in law and policy. Um, currently we learn well we've gone over things like uh, contract negotiation. We go over um, right now we're studying business law. um writing a paper on the uh and I'll say if I always
uh pronounce it or say it differently but it's Oregon's department of early learning and cares merger proposal. So I'm analyzing um whether they remain compliant with Oregon's um administrative procedure act. There's all these a abbreviations like APA I have to always get it mixed up. Um so I'm writing a paper on that. So the a lot of my familiar familiarity with um Oregon statutes and the law and other statutes come with my um legal studies uh studies and they give you the resources um and to I guess to seek out certain like how do you find statutes regarding certain matters or regard to certain matters is what I would say. So yeah, long story short, >> how do you see yourself as a contributing member of the Madding Joel School District? >> My I hope
to I have a lot of compassion for children. I I've worked with them for so long and so my goal is to help implement and encourage um I guess were equitable opportunities for children. I can relate to not having the resources that I needed as a kid. I graduated high school with a D average, but I was exceptionally smart. I just did not have the resources or the equitable opportunities that I needed. And it wasn't until college that I excelled. I don't want children to have to go through that. And I want to ensure that all families are uh involved and implemented into the, you know, their children's education regardless of whether they're under reppresented. And I want to ensure that they're as I guess you compare it to um public notice. How do you
get community stakeholder involvement? That's what I'm trying to say. So um to ensure stakeholder involvement and participation um I can say from my own experience working at the preschool that we had a high number of parent volunteers and that community involvement was I mean that was what rant that was the heart of our school. parents would come in and I feel that that's really important for children's education is to have community involvement and whether that's with local businesses um um looking for volunteer opportunities or mentorship opportunities for children um and then I also seeing I can kind of look as a parent for myself and what I want the opportunities I would want for my children. I can only imagine that other parents would want those opportunities as well. Um just partnering with other organizations
for for example like my son did not want to go to college. He wanted to do trade school. So how can we >> um reach out to the organizations to have those opportunities for children to I guess to get into there's trade school or there's apprenticeship programs. Um, so I feel that's really important. Um, I have a whole list of stuff, but all of a sudden I can't think of it, but I just community involvement is huge for me and so that's one of my main goals. >> Thank you. >> How do you believe a schoolboard member can be most effective in making longlasting substantial positive changes for students? Oh, there are several ways. Uh, obviously um maintaining the budget and ensuring that you're so your shortterm goals. Well, funding is going to fluctuate. We
don't necessarily have control over state funding. We have to anticipate that. And sometimes we're going to have to suddenly implement short-term goals. And we need to make sure those short-term goals enable long-term stability because without stability, you don't have a program for children. And um so budgeting is huge. And I think that um encouraging more student involvement in school programs having Well, I know that there's the STEM program having music programs. Um, I do like that the students do I actually had the football team come to my door and they were they were selling the little um I for I don't know what they were called but the little coupons for and I was like yes I love this. So having more um fundraising opportunities um where it it requires students to collaborate together and
team um clubs and and you know just more student involvement things that of are of student interest obviously I wouldn't want to just say this this and this because it would require student input. So, is there anything else you would like to share or for the board to consider? This would be my first opportunity in getting involved in my children's school um to this degree. I was so busy over the years working through adverse situations. Um and so and it's just really it's really important for me to be involved and to have a say in that because as a community member and a student I can see from one perspective and then also be able to provide um obviously with um maintaining policy and law but in you know helpful input and suggestions All right.
Thank you so much, Hannah. >> Well, thank you tonight and letting us ask you a few questions. Um, >> we haven't finished interviewing all the candidates and so now we're going to deliberate >> and we're going to appoint somebody this evening. So, >> I know they were all talking out here awkwardly and waste. >> Oh, they're they're all great. >> Thank you, Dana. Thank you. >> Now comes the difficult part. verify good candidates. Um, thinking about too some of the things we as a board are looking for to add to make us a stronger board. Uh, I would like to start like talking about the pros of candidates. Sure. when we go let's focus on the the positive things that each candidate could bring to our board and does it align with what we are
looking for fill our open position. So, we'll just start with our uh first candidate. >> Sombra, would anybody like to add what they saw as a positive thing that she could add to our board? >> It seems to have a strong community kind of passion in her even though she's only been here a short time, but you could sense that in her. >> Yeah, I would I would agree with that. and also about getting parents involved and then trying to >> to get community more community effort >> involved. Yeah. >> Different levels. >> Okay. >> Anybody else have anything else? >> Oh, okay. We will go to our second person, Jacqueline. He has lots of good um experience already in our district with her different role with EDI group. budgeting group. >> She's been in
some of those roles of understanding what happens in building. >> Yeah. >> And grew up in the community. To me, that's always, you know, if you've been in the community a long time, that's always plus for a person because they're familiar. >> Yeah. And I think she um also brings just a a more solid understanding of what being on this board really means. I think that showed in her answers to the >> um being on the budget committee already and >> and tying in her work experience to question one. I thought she did it >> negotiations, policy, all that stuff. One of the things she had said was looking at the district as a whole >> different pieces and I think that that >> big picture bigger picture >> that's a highlight that I had
as well the greater community right >> all right next moving on to >> I put passionate was passionate about as he did have to say. >> Yeah. >> Giving students the best possible outcomes. >> Yes. Those are good ones, too. >> And his experience running a business. >> Yeah. >> Is, you know, transferable skills. Yeah. Seeing the big picture >> and working with a variety of people to accomplish a goal, that teamwork. >> Yeah. And I also thought another aspect too that he mentioned was his own personal experience going through the SPE program. That is that is something that is unique >> um and could offer a different lens >> uh when we have our discussions as well. >> Yeah. >> Anything else? Okay. Moving on to Peter. He's character. >> The new idea is
a different approach. Yes. >> Yeah. And I really appreciated his answer when he said he'd ask a lot of questions. He sees things >> maybe from a different perspective and he can get to the heart of issues. >> Yeah. And he has a wide wide range of experience. Yes. >> Whether it be in HR management or you know teaching education experience. >> Yeah. considered himself a problem solver which is a good characteristic. Okay. All right. And more or less it Hannah she's strong background and education it's good compassionate about and really cares about about kids. I mean that was very clear. >> Yes. having families involved in her children's education. >> Yes. >> Yeah. The state, all I was involved with. >> Yeah. Um she mentioned that the really community involvement is part of our
schools. Um talk about different avenues, right, that although all of our kids are collegebound and so having those opportunities for kids that want to seek different avenues. But one thing that caught me really um was that she talked about the budget, right? And looking at your budget, the short-term goals, are they maintaining our long-term stability? >> That that really stuck out. >> Yeah. >> To me is probably the strongest thing that >> Yeah. >> And she said, >> "Yeah, >> you could tell the compassion for students." Absolutely. But that whole >> piece. Yeah. >> That's kind of where we we live. And she also talked about, you know, the policies and statutes and knowing that background, too. Yeah. So, >> yeah, five five really good. We're lucky. I I feel like we got a mentor
>> strong pull. And before we talk more, I just do want to disclose that Amber Treger is married to my niece, so relationship there. And Sombra is a friend of mine, so relationship there as well. And I think I can still participate. If I get to the point where I need to >> bow out, I will for now. >> Okay. So, talking about all that, what are let's go back to what we are looking for as a board. What were some of the things that that we mentioned um in what we were looking for to fulfill this vacancy and who are our candidates that would >> finding those that have different experiences? >> Yeah. >> Um that that can represent different experiences >> and different parts of our community. Yeah. I think those were the
big things that we were really looking for. Agreed. >> All right. Do you want to talk about top two? >> So, a few ways you could do this. You could certainly whittle it down, right? To say, "Okay, is there do we want to do a top two or top three?" or you know one of the things that you could do if you feel strongly or in a particular way somebody could make a motion to appoint somebody discuss that if there's a second um so there's a few different different ways to do it um and it really is a matter of based on the information that you've heard so it's really smart to say okay what is it that we wanted and now it is you know based on these candidates is there someone that you
as a board member feel like you know meets the the the question or the of of what you were looking for. So you could whittle it down when you might not. >> Yeah. Well, and I can I can say that I had like my top didn't change once I landed on my top. I have someone in mind. So I guess I couldot >> Yeah, I have someone in mind too. >> Should we all share who we have in mind and see what Sure. >> You're not sure yet. >> I'm like I still have >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Well, Jacqueline would be my top. >> She would be my top choice, too. >> And and part of that is because she has been on the budget committee. She's invested in that way already. And um
I think she brings >> Yeah. such a really good background in a lot of things that maybe we >> your answers to the question on the application as well. So, I'm considering I I concur. I answers. >> So I I will go ahead. How about this? >> Are you going to make the motion? >> Yeah. Okay. Make a motion. >> I make a motion to appoint Jaclyn Marquez to the vacant board seat with the term ending June 30th, 2027. Second position one. >> Yeah. Position one. Yep. Y. Do you >> Okay. Got a motion in a second. >> Okay. Any more discussion needed? >> Okay. All in favor? >> I passes unanimously. All right. Going to go ahead. >> Okay. Congratulations. You all have uh successfully chosen um an appointment. Um I will let candidates
know and then also um with the idea that the next board meeting which is next Monday um that they would be available to come to be sworn in for the next meeting >> they then attend the executive session. >> So this is this is something that Dr. department and I discussed that what we would do is it kind of different than normal procedure is we would open the board meeting square in our new board member and then we would go into executive session from there so that the new board member could attend that executive session >> open regular meeting at 6:00 >> yes but then head into is everybody >> if they want family friends whatever you know could be a big deal for them so >> could Yeah. >> Okay. >> And then they
would just kick them out for exe. >> All right. >> I like that process. We good? >> Yeah. >> All right. Thank you everybody. Me being adjourned. >> Bill, you need our notes and stuff back. C.
