Right. >> Good evening everybody. I'm gonna go ahead and call the meeting to order. And I just like, this is not on the agenda, but I'd just like to thank Canyon for all his support with all the tech stuff. He keeps us running for us >> and it works every meeting and I just really appreciate it. So, thank you. Um, okay. First item is um and and thank you also for these wonderful gifts. It's really really awesome. I this looks pretty hearty so I I hope I can keep it but thank you very much. Okay, we're gonna start with the student representative report. Happy new year. Welcome back. >> All right. >> I can go first. um you all can't see all of us. We're kind of but um so today I just wanted to

talk a little bit about the sport events that are happening at Vic. Um today Ellie is not here with us because she's at one of their basketball games at Hidden Valley. So we wish her good luck and I would like to invite everyone to the first league game for our girls both and boys teams on the 20th. The theme is blowout. So, neon rain or bright colors. Um, and this Saturday there's a cheer competition in Thirstston. So, we're just all in love with that. And I would also like to give a shout out to all of our college grad coaches because as a senior that I'm trying to pick colleges and get scholarships. It's like probably the most stressful thing I've ever done in my entire life. And they just lighten that load so much

and provide so much support that I can't even thank them enough for. Um, I just wanted to say we are taking a student film each advisory class and Miss Cross is going to like have a little board kind of and we're going to talk about ways to make advisory a little bit more productive because all the time like oh advisory isn't useful. We're just sitting around and just watching PhD. So I think that'll be really useful and it won't be as much of like burning moaning about it because you can actually have a say in it. So >> So cool. >> Hey everybody, it's good to see you guys all again. Before we went out to winter break, we with leadership we did our giving tree and that's where we have um community members from

the community donate gifts for students who their families can't pay for gifts. And this year I've done it all four years and this was the biggest turn I've ever seen. We had so many gifts. It took us quite a few hours to raft and we had so many people and I helped deliver those to Orchard Hill this year and it was just a great turnout for that. It's the biggest I've ever seen and it's never went as well as it did this year. So that was really great. Very cool. Thank you so much. >> Also, thank you for the basket you guys have outdone yourself. >> Very welcome. Who's responsible for those? Denise put them together. Everybody here. Very cool. Um, all right. Well, happy new year. Happy almost end of the first semester already.

Time for Accentuate Positive. Are you going first? Yeah. >> Okay. All right. >> Hey, good evening everybody. I'm Sha, principal here at Phoenix Elementary. And I just want to first say congrats or like we appreciate the school board more than you can ever imagine. I just appreciate the the harmony that we have, the dedication to students, the way that people work together, and that um we're just really really fortunate to have a collaborative board. um amazing people. I want to echo what uh what you shared. Um this year the PHS leadership students, our conference room was packed full of giant gifts for kids and it was just incredible to see them wheel it all over from the high school and just you know it's such an incred incredible season and the spirit of the season

is giving. Um so thank you so much for the generosity and supporting our students. It was really, it was heartwarming beyond measure. I also want to give a shout out to our community care people for that same reason. The things that are happening, the the things that they're doing are unimaginable to me sometimes that the the struggles that our families are facing and they are met with such compassion and support and service without any sort of judgment behind it all. So, I just want to say thank you to Kelly Soder. Thank you to Katie McCormack and to Nubia Panetta and to Laura Mallette. We like I think the relationships in our our district are built on the amount of support that we give our families and I just really want to give them a special

shout out. Um before RA we do a traditional sing along and this year our new music teacher Sage Meadows brought her band with her >> and it was in it totally transformed the feeling of the whole event. She's magical at getting everybody on the same page musically. It was such a special event and I just want to say thank you so much to Sage um for just helping with pre a new tradition for our hopefully it's a new tradition for our sing along. It was pretty awesome and then we kind of capped that off with some of you saw a video about our uh attendance challenge and things are just going really well in that and I told my staff today or yesterday when we met that it's not because we're doing these attendance challenges

and things like that. That's the fun part of celebrating attendance. It's really the work of us creating relationships with our families and with our students and then having meaningful learning happen here. That's really what's bringing families and students to school. So, big shout out to our staff on that. And then finally, I just want to give a big shout out to Tiffany for the work that she's done around bringing the uh mittens and hats day with support of the Ashlin Community Health Foundation. Um they delivered hats and mittens yesterday to every single student and like even at the end of the day I'm sending her pictures and the kids are still wearing their handk knit hats all day and then multiple of them brought it back today and so it's just like the fact that

we had a donor I think 930 hats were hand knit by one donor and it's like now they're on the heads of all of our PTS elementary students. So it's a thank you Ashlin Community Health Foundation and Tiffany for bringing that to us. Um, this year is a busy time of year for us because it is the the midway point and so we're getting ready to do our midyear diagnostics and we're really excited about seeing the growth that our students um have made so far and we're pretty certain that they are going to be making a lot of growth. We just feel it. So, we'll share that to with you at our um at our jab meeting coming up. Um, okay. I talked too long. >> Yeah, I'll yield some of my time to you.

>> Thank you. >> You're welcome. Harry will too, >> principal at Orchard Hill Elementary. Um, we've been back four days and sometimes it's a little hard to think what's happened this four days to share with the board. But a unique thing happened to me this week. Two guests came to the building who've known Orchard Hill over the past threeish years and came into the building, walked around, visited some classrooms, and came to chat with me. And they said, "And it is really calm here." And there have been some not so calm days in all of our schools at times. And I thought, I wonder if we just are feeling it's more calm or if the data would say that it is more calm. So I asked Rich Malden, our our behavior specialist, to kind of

look at November and December of 2024 and uh share the data of all the notifications and reminders and then November, December of 2025. Um and wow. So in November and December of 2024, 226 reminders and notifications like you know about issues and conflicts in the building. November December of 2025 74. So from 226 74 it's like yeah there's a reason why it does feel calmer because it is. And I uh really really want to thank all of our staff members at Orchard Hill. We have some new teachers. We have 12 classrooms and uh three new teachers this year. But I can tell you they're awesome and it makes a huge difference. So I want to just public thank them all. >> Actually don't I'm del I'm the director of instructional improvement and today I'm acting

as a love. So she gave me all the good news for you guys for talent elementary. So I want to just listen to what she says. I want to read what she wrote. Good evening. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I apologize for not being able to attend tonight's meeting. I have the distinct pleasure of taking statistics on Thursday night's list. So whether that's a sarcastic comment or first I want to express many thanks to our amazing music teacher Sats who orchestrated a beautiful family sing event before the break. Uh the library was filled with the sweet sound of children's voices singing classic holiday tunes. That is so poetic. I'm sorry. Um this was followed by an epic roughly principal show honoring our students dedication to regular attendance. She also wanted me to

say that over the seven weeks that they had this challenge going they had 94% daily attendance average daily attendance rate. Wow. >> So then we ended our special day with the Mustang Mile. It was a delightful way to kick off the winter break. I also want to recognize our PTA uh led this year by Matt Neichek who continues to show incredible dedication to our school and community. Before the break, we hosted our annual winter craft day. Funny, this year I was putting up for Christmas tree with my wife and we had all these ornaments for the Christmas craft day at elementary when my kids went there. So good tradition. Uh this year the event was paired with a toy swap. While the kids were distracted sipping hot cocoa and crafting in our cafeteria, parents slip

away into our gym to find the just right get for their children. We couldn't do what we do at TS without these amazing parents. Coming up next at TS, we have our highly anticipated talent show on January 28th at 6 p.m. at the Phoenix High School Rose Theater. So, January 28th, triyouts are next week and the kids are busy practicing their moods, songs, and routines. We hope you can join us for the big show. January 28th, uh, all my gratitude to the National Community Health Foundation for orchestrating another adorable and cozy hat and made me distribution yesterday. It was a talk of the school. Also, they wanted me to No, never mind. Okay. Finally, I am excited to share positive updates on our progress towards our academic and attendance goals at at the upcoming Jaff

meeting. I will be playing hookie from statistics for that one night. >> Thank you. >> Thanks. >> Um, so I want to recognize the board. Thank you guys as we all do. Um you guys do an amazing job for our district and every iteration of board that we've had since I've been in this district has been extremely supportive and collegial and so I appreciate you guys and what you do. Uh really briefly uh I want to thank you guys' support for the uh for our school rising academy. Uh because of your support we're able to provide some kind of tailored experiences for students. I want to give you one example uh that's come up recently. Right now we've got a student who uh Pra and PES are co-eing. um they were struggling with full days

here at BES uh but um but needed a special education services and wanted to stay connected to his class during PE and music. So with this partnership he attends PES in the mornings for those services and time with his classmates and he goes home and gets his PT instruction uh there at home. This allows him to be to learn in a setting where he can be successful. And I want to recognize the extra time and effort from PTS Matt MSAS and the PES staff here, his teacher as well as other office staff, Lori and Wendy for coordinating all that daily. And so uh your support for our program allows us to tailor these experiences for students that uh that need a little bit different experience. So thank you again for that Alison. Thanks, Baron. Good

evening board, Alison Cass over at Middle School. Um, Casey's out tonight, but I did promise that I would share our positives. Um, first I just want to really thank and shout out our custodial team. Um, you know, they work hard over winter break. We're off and resting and having a great time. And, um, always come back after every break and we're greeted with just this beautifully clean building and closed maintenance tickets. and it just sent a great reminder of um how harder student works and the pride they really take in our building. Um and so we really appreciate all the work they do. So big shout out to our custodial team um Steven McCormack, Mike Copeland, and Anna Lopez for their work at CMS. Um also we just really want to highlight our special education

department right now. Um we've just been really grateful to share um just how they've worked as a as a whole team really um to come together to support each other. Um you know they just really they step in when things need to be done and they're always just looking to do the right next next right thing uh to support our kids and families. So we're really grateful um for all of them, our teachers, our aids um and then our greater district team that just they all really just step up, come together um and do what needs to be done for kids. And then lastly, um you know, these last kind of month before break and the week coming back at the middle school, uh can just feel like a lot sometimes, but on those days,

um where it just feels like that to-do list never ends, um we really rely on our office team and our student support team. Um and so it's just, you know, kind of been that time where turn around and and people are just doing what needs to be done, taking care of our kids and families, um and just really doing doing that work to support each other. So again, big recognition to um our student support and office teams and family, Vanessa Jimenez, um Felipe Reyes, K Wilson, and Misty Hutzel for all that they do every day. Um and then lastly, of course, just want to jump on um and so thank you to our board for the support that you give us at the middle school. Um we really have always felt very uh supported by

you all and we're so grateful um for your trust and the work that you do for our kids and families. That's it. >> Good evening, Bor Crossville the pirate ship. Um I just want to echo our thanks to you. Um the board we were able to write individual thank you cards in your basket and one of the things that kept on coming up for me was just the way you each model servant leadership um for our community and um how you do that in a way that's so gracious and kind and authentic. And so I just wanted to speak that out loud too so everyone knows that that is something we're thankful for all of you, students included, for the way you lead. So thank you. Um, a couple of shoutouts for us. Our student

services team has been working really hard on creating um some MTSS processes at the high school. Today we had a very successful uh first data team meeting where we looked at behavior, attendance and grade data separately to look at what trends um are happening and how we can inform our tier 2 um supports. And so it was a really great productive meeting and I'm really thankful for their presence and just their hanging in there through a some difficult times to make that happen. Um, next I wanted to shout out to Alyssa Barber and our instructional leadership team. We've been working a lot this year on collective efficacy and through some of the data that we've been looking at, we've created a writing across the curriculum plan and we've been working on that since the fall.

We recently wrapped up some exit ticket work around writing across the curriculum and we're starting to see some really awesome trends. Additionally, our students are starting to notice that we're all working on some things and asking questions about that, which is kind of the point. And so, I just wanted to shout out um to the the coordination that Alyssa's doing and our lead teachers on that work as well. Really excited about that. We're excited to share how that transitions us um in our scores and our writing. Um we wanted to al I also wanted to talk about um our grad coaches. we've been using um their their um rapport with students to leverage some good interventions especially around our freshman on track and senior graduation data. And we launched um our first kind of bigger

intervention of the year. Uh we're doing Wednesday school every Wednesday for our freshmen who failed courses first quarter in order to ensure that they are finishing second quarter without losing that credit. Um, it's a very collective effort and they're working really hard and our students are showing up with positive attitudes and we're appreciative of that. I wanted to shout out, we wanted to shout out to John, uh, Michael and the maintenance crew and all who put in work to put in new lights in the gyms over break. Though we've hit a few snags on the timeline, the transition already has been amazing and noticeable by all. So, when you come to the glow out um game, you can also notice those really awesomes. Um, last but not least, the sweatshirts in your basket were made

possible by Neil Carvalo and Andy Terrell. Um, and so I just wanted to show those to you and let you know that we have a great press and embroidery machine that we're looking forward to using with students. >> That's awesome. Hi, thank you Amy food service and I'd like to also hit thank John Caleb for his organization communication and just overall wonderful level of service and support that it provides us for food service. We just got two new dishwashers and the plan was to get them in over winter break. It got a little snag in just a few more days. Um, as you can imagine in food service, it's can be a little stressful when you don't have a dishwasher and you have the students here, but John's just his organization, his communication, and just

overall leadership in that project really took away all of our stress and made it uh go a lot smoother and kept my kitchens from not calling and complaining to me about it all. So, it must have been really nice. We have continued to purchase local meats and produce uh strategically replacing products on our menu. We're excited to have local beef taco meat replacing our commodity turkey taco meat all this month in the schools and we're actually looking at continuing this throughout the year for hopefully an overall just trend of a strategic change in our menu lineup here. Uh we actually I'm looking at ordering commodities already for next school year, believe it or not, right now. So, we tend to do them very early, but we obviously wouldn't want to waste anything that we've ordered

in the past, but we're really excited about some of these new um opportunities that you guys have helped uh build for the district and the community as we continue to make these local strategic spots in our menu and products. Last, I want to invite everyone to come see me present at the Oregon Farm to School Conference January 30th. The conference is the 29th and the 30th. Um, I will be presenting with Lincoln County Schools on the 30th to talk about getting more farmtoschool into the schools, even with food service management companies and how we can make that all happen. I know that we can actually even use some of our district's farm-toschool grant to bring district employees to it. And I believe we could even um look and pass that along to board members if

anyone is interested. I'd be happy to research that more for this year or next year if you guys would like to attend that conference. >> Awesome. >> Thank you so much. >> Where is the conference? >> I didn't hear that. >> Corvalis >> this year and I don't know if it rotates because of course this is my first year of attending it um while also presenting. But >> congratulations. Yeah, really exciting. >> Thank you so much. Um that everything. Okay. Anything from the board? Um, okay. Citizen comments. Do we have anybody in the audience who wishes to address the board? Anybody online? I think we just have our budget committee candidate, right? Okay. Um, next we have PTA updates. And are you here for that? Okay. Awesome. I thought you might be. >> Welcome. Okay.

>> We don't get these every meeting, by the way. >> Hi. So, oh no, it's on. >> Yeah. >> Jennifer Baker. I am a teacher at Talent Middle School. Um, and I'm on the executive council. So, we just wanted to share a couple of things because, you know, it's only been four days into the the new year here. Um, so we're working closely with our special education staff and our gen ed teachers on how to best support our TLC students within their classrooms. Uh, we're trying to work on making sure that all the teachers have the support they need in order to fully give the students the education they deserve. So, a working for our ship there. And then, um, at the end of this month, we are working on creating like a little gathering

for our new members throughout the district. um we want to try to build them in and find support. I know uh we don't have that mentorship program anymore. So, we're trying to find as a union some ways to reach out and make sure that our new members are feeling supported. They're feeling connected to our district. We want them to stay. So, just kind of wanted to share that we're trying to get better. We're hearing them support them. >> Thank you. Thank you so much. Um, okay. Next is superintendent report. >> Thank you, Sher Campbell. I just want to echo the uh words of our staff and uh appreciate this board and our student reps. Um so much for the support, but also um I challenge us to make sure we're keeping the eyes on the

prize, which is uh focused on students and uh just appreciate that. And have my parents said, um we've got a very supportive and collaborative board uh and we feel so thank you. Uh, want to let you know I think you got an email about the city of talent and local leaders input which is next week the 13th. I know Don is RFP and I'm going to be there. Um, let me know uh if you're going to be there. I don't um just want to make sure we're um don't necessarily have a quorum there, but um if we do or have to notice it. Yeah, actually I talked to an OSBA lawyer and we do not have to notice it if we don't have a quorum because the city has now made it public. >> Okay,

great. Um, so all seven of you >> and it's better not to say then we're not making it as a committee. >> Okay, >> so basically they're just trying to find input with their upcoming budget um scenarios and budget committee um kind of strategic plan. So, um, so that's next week on the 13th. >> I have a question. Does this impact anything to do with Culver Road this meeting? >> No, this is more just general, I think, over city budget. Um, >> okay. >> Um, we received our response from our Division 22 report that we do in the fall and uh, for the third year in a row, Denise has been recognized as a one of the best in the state and an exemplar for everything. So appreciate her work on that and um all

she does to to create that uh report, make it organized and uh OD recognizes that. So want to recognize her. Uh you have a community care update in your packets. Um and as Shauna was mentioning, November and December were very busy months uh for this department and it's just really incredible on how they support and provide for our students and families. um just a number of you'll see some statistics in there. Uh a number of just great outreach programs that are helping um you know our kids and families get through some of the holiday stuff. So also want to take this time to recognize Katie McCormick. She was recognized as a Southern Oregon kind award from the uh United Way. Um we're so lucky to have her. I mean, you look at um Healthy Black

Party, you look at Girls on the Run, you look at Community Care. I mean, there's just start naming them off. Katie McCormack has a huge impact um on our district and and it benefits our kids and families. I just want to recognize her. That's all I have. >> Thank you. Question on the data that was shared. Um I know that she is awesome. I know that Katie McCormack is based out of Orchard Hill, right? Um so I wondered with these this referral data third a third of them are coming from Orchard Hill. Is that because she's based there and so it gets I think that is and you know we have Laura too that's not necessarily in that data for this school that does a lot of stuff that doesn't track in that data. Okay.

>> So um I was prepared for that question. >> Good for you. Yeah. Uh but yeah, so that's that's actually on the community care side. There's other works that are going on that are not in that. >> Yeah, I think I think the interests from the board will be that you know, >> we're meeting and yeah, all together. Okay, cool. Thank you. And I had a question that kind of puts you on the spot, so you don't have to have an answer right now, but as we were talking about this this hybrid model supporting that student, I've noticed that's something that districts are starting to look at um as a way to provide additional services to students. And I wondered if that's something that you've thought about exploring in in greater detail because it's it's

being met with a lot of success, I think, throughout the state. >> Yeah. And I think I think when they come up, we try to I mean, we meet with kids and families all the time. And what what can work for your student? I mean, at the high school level, we kind of do this sometimes when they uh take part in an elective or something like that. Um and maybe doing another online school or PT or program or something like that. >> I think I think that's kind of our skill is meeting the needs of kids and families and if they can work, we'll make it work. >> Yeah. Well, I think you know that story is just it's a good example of how we'll do what it takes to support a kid. Um, I

think what I'm thinking more about is just is there a way to kind of bottle that up and and be able to communicate it to people so that they understand so that we're telling we do a great job telling our story as a district, but you know, is there something a little more, you know, formal that we can codify that that we could communicate as a as a benefit to people out there? So >> yeah, I think we can brainstorm that and see how we can I think when you start looking at uh SB819 and looking at the abbreviated today, >> it kind of forces you to get creative a little bit and so yeah. Okay, great. Thank you. Um okay, consent agenda. Um does anyone have any items they'd like to pull from the

consent agenda? I actually do have one. I'd like us to take out the um the approval of the agenda because I have a suggested change. Um so um if we could I guess we could just start there. I'd like to if we could is our budget committee person online right now? Is he there? >> David. Yeah. David Sherman. I'd like to if we I'd like to make a motion to modify the agenda to move that action item of interviewing the budget committee applicant to um before information and discussion if we could just because he's here and I'm sure this is all very riveting stuff um but I'd like to move that up in so that we can take care of that um sooner so I can >> Okay, great. Thank you. Um but I do

think we have to vote on that. So, um, Diana, >> yes. >> Okay, cool. Nancy, >> yes. >> Ollie, >> yes. >> Don, >> yes. >> Rick, >> yes. >> Rebecca, >> yes. >> I vote yes. >> Maybe make sure he's there. I mean, >> yeah, I think he's there, >> please. Okay, great. >> Hey, baby. >> Hi there. >> Um, okay, great. And now we can um I'll entertain a motion to approve it. >> I move to approve the consent agenda. >> Thank you, Tom. Thank you, Rick. Any objections? Hearing none, the consent agenda is approved. Um, so we'll move to um that action item of interviewing our budget committee applicant. We have Mr. Sherman with us. And thank you all for that uh pivot, Denise and Brent. I didn't tell you I was

going to do that. So, thank you. Um, and good evening, sir. Thanks so much for joining us. Um this is a fairly informal process but we do like to just uh talk to people who express an interest and we really thank you for your interest. So um I think we'll just start with uh what interests you in joining the budget committee. >> Uh well hi thank you for um your patience with me. I know that I I've been on the agenda a couple of times and I have a crazy schedule so I appreciate your um indulgence. Um, I' I've been an educator since 1984. I um I wanted to be involved in in education and I do teach and I do tutor um literacy. I also when I was approached by Paulie this summer um

I thought oh what a great idea to be involved with the budget and um be able to brainstorm ways of bringing possibilities to the school. Um it's not always you have your wish list and then you have to make it real. So, anything I can do, I do have a background in business um as as well as teaching and um I do I work with the smart program in Shauna's school in in uh Phoenix. I live in Phoenix and um yeah, I just want to be able to give back. I've been very I've been blessed with a with a wonderful life and I just want to give back where I can. >> Wow. Thank you so much. >> Any questions? I'm sold. Any more questions? >> Well, I I know Sherman. >> I I thank

Kylie of them. >> Yeah. >> You all Thank you. Good recruitment job. Whoever did that, >> this was me. >> Good work. It's it's a brick connection. Brick connection. I tell you, it's >> that other gig we got going on, >> right? >> Keep recruiting these brick people though. And then you all want to go to the concert so we don't have anybody to show it. >> There's some good ones coming up. Just have an announcement next week. >> Great. Okay. Um well, thank you so much and I your background is fantastic and we we'd be well served to have you. Um so with that um I'll entertain a motion. >> Oh god. >> That's okay. I I believe in you. >> Yeah. >> Where is it? And we appoint David chairman to a twoyear

term on the budget committee. budget. >> Thank you, Greg. >> I'll second it. >> Thank you, Paulie. Any further discussion? >> Again, thank you for your interest in serving our schools and kids. We really appreciate it. >> Thank you. Could I just ask Could I just ask who is Denise? >> Yes. >> Oh, she's the our >> Okay. Thank you, Denise. Denise has been really wonderful uh communicating with me and thank you, Denise. I just have not met you before. Thank you. >> Oh, great. Well, we have to swing by the office and say hi. >> Okay. >> Thank you so much. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Nancy. >> Yes. >> Holly. >> Yes. >> Don. >> Yes. >> Rick. >> Yes. Yes. Rebecca. >> I say definitely. Yes. Thank you so much,

sir. We look forward to having you this spring. >> So, that's it. >> That's it. >> Okay. Happy New Year all. Thank you so much. Thank you. >> I app I hope I can live up to your expectations. Thank you. >> Sure you can. Thank you. >> We need to do something with Roland while we're here. >> Oh, yes. And we need to Yes. So, since we've moved So, so um Mr. Freshman is is uh put in for another term, be reappointed, and I think we've kind of established through the discussion that if we've served before, we don't really need to interview you. So, um, uh, okay. So, do I have a motion for for, uh, for Ron or for Roland, I'm sorry. >> I move to reappoint Roland, right? >> Yeah. >> Thank you.

I think it was actually with you to it. Um, thank you. Any discussions? I would just like to say that I had the pleasure of working with him on the bond committee and I mean he's been on the budget committee for a long time but he was great on the bond committee and he's been a great supporter of our district and um and really involved in the community and I'm so glad that he wanted to come back. >> Me too once we finally got a hold of >> Okay, Diane, >> yes. >> Nancy, >> yes. >> Paulie, thank you. Don, >> yes. Rick. >> Yes. >> Rebecca, >> I vote. Yes. >> Okay. >> And so we still have one more vacancy, right? >> Oh, that's right. Great. >> Sure. >> Well, that's we can

put that behind us. Um, okay. We're going to go back up to information and discussion. Thank you all for allowing me to make that change. Um, legislative OSBA update. >> Um, okay. Okay. So, we had our legislative reception um that most some of you guys came to and I feel like >> Why' you look at me like that? >> It's not um I think it went well. This was our third one this year and um I can let people other people that were there talk about it, but um I I heard great feedback and I think it went well and I I feel like the legislators really stayed on topic and really wanted to learn and understand education. So I think it went really well and I don't know if anyone wants to add before

I move on to the next topic. I thought of some of the big topics were coming up as we already know the unfunded mandates. Um, and then also the 11% they were always talking about was brought up by several things, but I I felt like one of the best things was is they were talking about each one individually would say how they have an open door policy that if we have questions or if we need help or um assistance with anything. Um, I thought that was really um and how important our testimony can be also um that we might show up. And I know I could take that as a a challenge to maybe show up in this next session, short session um for that. But I would hope that we're going to do a

spring and also get the ones that weren't there for the next one. I would love to see that because I missed I missed some of the ladies who didn't weren't able to attend this time for sure. >> I just want to really thank Don I mean for all her hard work to put that on. I mean, it's easier when it's in our own backyard, but when it's, you know, 35 minutes away and coordinating that. So, just thank you and yeah, I thought it was well attended and some great talking points and and Paul, you're right. I think those relationships that you can just have a conversation with some legislators that you may not have talked to um was valuable. I know our team felt that way. >> I'll just add um I'll say huge kudos

to CR Pass School District. um they really took on this opportunity and invitation to host us and I love the idea. I think it's incredibly valuable to have these in different school districts. While I love having it here at home, um I think it's just important. It's shared responsibility. It allows for different people to go to different places. something that I oftentimes hear through just like my personal work. People oftentimes complain about going to Grants Pass, but Grants Pass comes to Jeffson County all the time. And while we might maybe logistically sometimes it might be easier for because there's fewer people from grants paths. I think we all are needed at the table to have these important valuable conversations. sometimes hard conversations. People are joining the party at different stages. And I think um I

love this um collaborative shared experience of other people hosting us. And huge kudos to the um oh my gosh, Tara, was that her name? The lady. >> Tanya, the person who put together the dinner. >> Oh, so lovely. The dinner was great. The decorations were great. Um, it was just really lovely and it is really nice to get people to come and have questions and there's a lot of challenges that continue to arise and there's future challenges that will come up. So, how do we share the responsibility and the work so it doesn't feel super heavy in what already feels really burdens sometimes. So, >> I really really love that. >> Well, thank you. I just for the record I've talked to a couple of you but so I I had a work meeting that

evening and I thought this event was earlier on in the meetings or in the evening and so I said you know I can't make it I got this work meeting well the event was later than I thought and so and I was at the meeting with my boss who then showed up to this without me >> and totally threw me in rebutt so um so I apologize that I didn't think of anything I'm trying to protect some of night, evening time, whenever possible. I appreciate you all for going and Don, I appreciate all of your efforts to put it together. So, um, I'd love to talk more about I I've heard a little bit about some of the things that were discussed. I'd love to talk more about it um at a at a later

time, but well, thank you. Those of you who made it, thank you for going representing. I appreciate it. >> And Michael, I know that you're you're like, "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry." But I don't think everybody has to go. I know where you have some little kids. >> I hope that >> I oftentimes have such great appreciation for the folks that are here at this meeting and just if I go to the different schools, you are there all the time >> and I think, oh my gosh, when did these lovely people get a break? Do we get to spend some time? So, I just have a huge sense of gratitude and appreciation and I hope that you get to also model this work life harmony. There's never going to be balance, but how do we

um create spaces? And I think that we need to model that by taking care of ourselves so we can continue to take care of the lovely families that we serve. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> Thank you for not going to also just like to shout out a little bit. You've >> just started speaking when nobody else wanted to at one point and multiple times. He's multiple times about very important topics and >> very well spoken and >> um so I would like to thank grants pass as well and then going off what Paulie said legislative days are next week >> um and so I just I don't have it all prepared because they started putting the agendas out today but if you go on um they have the agendas it looks like there's not

much for the joint subcommittee on education yet, but the uh House has quite a bit of things. Um they're going to talk about instructional time and academic calendars and poverty measures and restraint and seclusion. It's some pretty hefty topics. Um so if you if you need help finding where to find this information, I'd be more than happy to help you. Um, but there's the three education work and then there's also some joint ways and means that might be interesting to you, but I know my interesting is not everybody else's interesting. So, um, they may not be interesting to you. And then I briefly glanced at an email from OB that talked about division 22 standards and that was brought up at our meeting in grants pass on Monday. And I think you all should have

gotten it, but if not, I can forward it to Denise and send it to you. I It was like a very brief glance in between running in and out of the house. Um, and then Senator Mkeley will have his town hall on Sunday at 12:30 in Ashland. I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it, but Ashland High School. >> Yes, Ashan High School in the gymnasium. Y >> um, and what else? I had some other things. Uh, the OSBA board of director meeting on the weekend of the 23rd. We now have Jay Chick from um Rogue River and Nathan Sables from um Grants Pass to do LPC. So, it'll be exciting. I'm going to have a meeting with them because they would like to know more to do and I'd like

to hand them off some stuff. So, I'm like I have been solo for like six months and I'm running for help. So, we're going to have a meeting, but if you guys have any concerns about OSB board, please let me know. And I also will be going and I believe Nancy to DC in January. Um, and so we don't get our homework yet, but Tiffany usually helps me with my homework. Um, because it's like pages and pages of homework. And luckily this year, um, >> I will be president, so I get to speak first. So, if you have any great topics, let me know. So, usually when we go and talk to the legislators, the the executive team gets to talk and if we're lucky, we get to talk or throw. But since I'm the

president, I get to talk first. So, I will be representing um southern Oregon and the whole state the best that I can. >> I think that's it. >> Awesome. Thank you. Uh do we have any committee reports? Um, well, we have the audit report. >> Yeah. Do you want to kick us off on that? >> There's four. >> Thank you. >> Okay. First of all, thank you whoever is responsible for all these goodies. It's awesome. Thank you. Uh all I'm just kind of read what I wrote there for you people is once again the annual order of our school district resulted in an unmodified report which is the highest uh opinion you can possibly get. Uh so on January 5th we had a committee meeting. I listed the people that attended uh Don Ewin. Incidentally,

Sarin, we used to use KDP >> and they became part of Saran International and National CPA firm and with offices throughout the United States and so on. John was here. Adrian Maximar and then Brentberry was present. Gas off of our district. Michael Campbell was president and myself and I want to there was an attached memo. I have attest the last page of the 40 which is standard. We can go over that in a minute. But I do want to reference something that came from our a December 18th letter to the board from uh Surren and I this is a quote. During our audit, we found the management and staff to be very receptive to our comments and suggestions. They were hardworking, diligent, and conscientious about their assigned responsibilities and duties. They were a pleasant to

work with and that's the highly of our our accounting crew is. Uh my last comment is that we as a board have the oversight of $130 million assets for deferred outflow school district 130 million. Our net position after liabilities deferred inflows were 17.9 million. Um, and then I said, "You are encouraged to review the entire 76page June 30th audit report." Now, everybody should have it electronically. I have a hard copy here, and I'll quickly go through it with you. uh starting with the uh opinion letter which is on page A-1 and if you'll notice it leaves off with opinions and the second paragraph is in our opinion that's the unmodified report. So after that, reference to page B-1 and uh there's some interesting financial highlights there. Uh you should read this. I'm not going to

go read it all, but I reference it for usually. Uh and that's eight pages of man discussion and analysis. Next what I'll refer you to is page one and it's a statement of that shouldn't be the term that we've always used in in accounting balance sheet. That's a balance sheet >> and uh you can see that you can run down there and read there's the listing of the assets, the liabilities and then the equity section down more. And my next reference is to page three and uh that's a balance sheet of government of funds. That's fun too. Then I would refer page 10 and that's the note to financial statements. Uh it's pages 10 through 55 45 pages of notes. So that'll keep you all right. And then references to page 56 to 66 and

pages. That's other board and the Senate board here to the last page is a huge important page 65. And uh we could go over that one there. Let's see. Uh internal control uh material weaknesses. No. Significant deficiency. No. Uh compliance. No. Federal awards. Uh material weakness. No. Significant division. No. uh any disc. Uh so all I can say it's a great board reflects highly of our district. We're very very fortunate that we have the people we have because if the numbers are screwed up, uh, we would have a nightmare and they're not. They're really great shape. And also our superintendent, you communicate so well. Yes. And and Michael, thanks for sitting in. >> Yeah. Uh, thanks for having me. You did a great job with your question. >> Thank Well, >> anybody's got any questions

that always comforting to have you there, Rick? >> Yeah, every report. So, >> thank you. Any questions for anybody? >> All right. Great job. Thank you. Thank you. Appreciate it. Um, okay. Next is uh criteria for evaluating the superintendent. Um this gets confusing because we're going to be starting the evaluation process um soon. Um this criteria that we're going to adopt at our next regular meeting is essentially for next year, right? So this we so the criteria that we're going to use here in the next couple months, we've already adopted that last February. Um so this criteria is is is the same. Um and um and it's what we're considering for next year's evaluation. So just just a reminder. Any questions on this? Okay. And then um first student renewal. Did you want to kind

of speak to >> Yeah, definitely. Um there there's a couple things I want to make sure you're aware and you have either the PDF. I'm not sure exactly. I had asked for a two-year renewal and a five-year renewal to have some options on what we may um seek as we get um as we get to that stage at the next action item. Um and so you have it in your PDF that was emailed for sure. It's a deep and there's a five-year renewal and a two-year renewal. Um I I will I will tell you Yasm mean and I met with uh their representatives um and you can see the rates that they're looking at uh Yasm mean and her due diligence as always. Um really start putting dollar amounts to what that would mean uh

next year and into the future. Um and quite simply we're we're going to we can't afford what these rates say. So, we're going to Yasm mean and I are going to go into a um kind of a negotiation process on how we want to uh what we want to present next time for action. Um they did do a full-on PDF. They have made some uh significant upgrades. Uh but I think uh the the um the terms are uh something that we need to discuss and if we can't come to that, there's a potential that will go off the page. So, um but we we will see. um as as to be totally transparent, Medford and Central Point um use this company as well. Um and each of their terms are up. Uh Metford's up next

year and Central Point's up the following year, which is why I was uh wanted a shorter term to possibly go up for RFP when they're uh to match up with that. So, um do you have any questions? I'll entertain any questions, but uh that's that's where we met earlier this week. Um and that's pretty honest with uh Andrew who was um has been the first student for a long time. Um then we'll have to have some discussions. >> So you were surprised at those levels that were in the in the print out that >> the rate like the first year the second year or >> well one of them just two years and then the five year. Yeah. >> And then once we were a little bit surprised of the rate and then when we

got a little bit of sticker shock when Yasm mean put actual dollar amounts to those. up. >> Yeah, it looks like so on the >> like by day or something, right? That's hard to see. Is that why that's what the problem was? >> No, just just certain just amount of yearly increase of what that might be if you and we have historical um again I mean Yas mean you're awesome. You didn't your team and >> the audit and we have historical data on all the rates increase that we've had over the last decade. Um, and these are significant and they have some new buses that they're committed to purchasing, too. So, that comes in. >> Uh, and we want to have competitive wages. So, we understand that. Um, so what is this? So, I'm looking

at this and it's for the five-year, it's it's essentially 20. It's essentially 30%. >> Over five years. And then on the 2-year option, um it's 13 a.5% in year 1 and 5% in year two. So, you know, basically 9% each more than 9% each year. I haven't had a chance to read through every page of the 107 yet, but and I >> and I'm not sure you need to. I mean, these for renewal purposes, I think this is, but I'm curious what the justification is for for those rate increases. these things fleet um competitive wages. >> Um yeah, I mean I'm not sure if there was any other ones, but I think those were those were some to be competitive in the increase in >> Did they do they itemize that? Do they do they

justify that increase by by um spelling out what percentage of that increase is going to those items? >> No, they didn't. >> Okay. >> They didn't they did give us a breakdown of the children they're going to be buying. >> Okay. And they also talk about their channel wages, the people in the office, and they do need them because they're way below what they should be. >> But other than that, they really give us a another explanation. So, okay, >> what I saw so far is just a CPI index that we used to use before. >> I'm thinking that maybe that's what they were trying to use, but >> that's going down. So 5% >> Yeah. is too high >> and the beginning one 10.5 is just too high. Yeah. Even at a five years.

So we need to >> hopefully we're able to negotiate with them so we don't have to go for an RFP this year. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um it's it's one thing to ask for a big increase but we need to see the justification for it and it needs to be itemized. So I good good luck. Thank you. Thank you for doing that work because that that is important work. So, okay. Any qu any more questions about transportation? Okay, we're going to take a recess. It is 7:05. Oh, >> we come back. >> We'll be back soon. I like when it's like 03 and I can say seven, but we'll just take a recess. Thank >> you so much. Welcome back. Um, our first action item is um item K1. Um, We all attended an executive session

where we heard confidential employment information relating to the superintendent's recommendation of a contract non-renewal for probationary teacher. Um we are now considering the recommendation to non-renew the probationary teacher contract with your district. Is there a motion relating to the superintendent's recommendation? >> I have one. I move to accept the superintendent's recommendation and the nonrenewal and non-renewal of the probationary teachers contract. >> Second. >> Thank you, Don. Thank you, Rebecca. Any discussion? >> We will vote. Diana, >> abstain. >> Nancy, >> yes. >> Holly, >> yes. >> Don, >> yes. >> Rick, >> yes. Rebecca, >> yes. I >> vote yes. Um, next item. Oh, we already did that. See, go fast for govern. Okay. Um, item K3, board policy. So, it was a while ago, but we did pick these up at our last regular

meeting. So, um, do I have a motion on this one? I move to approve changes to policy BC advisory committee to the board as presented. >> I'll second it. >> Thank you, Don. Thank you, Paul. Any discussion? Diane, >> yes. Nancy, >> yes. Paulie, >> yes. Don, >> yes. Rick, >> yes. >> Rebecca, yes. I vote yes. Uh K4 board policy CA. >> Are you looking for a motion? >> Yes. Sorry. >> Just making sure. >> Yep. Sorry. >> I move to approve changes of policy CA educational equity advisory committee as presented. >> Second. By the way, is that the same acronym as the or abbreviation as the agency secret government agency? >> CIA. Yeah. Okay. >> It's EA. >> Yeah. >> I could remember. >> Okay. Any discussion? Okay. Diana. >> Oh, I have

discussions. >> Okay. We're moving really fast. I'm distracted >> and I was also distracted. mute because that's more fun. >> Got it. >> Um, now I'm looking back to see what I had a question on. Um, hold on. Hold on. So there's an uh part where it states that the superintendent may adequately the superintendent's authority under the recommendations of the definition equity committee without approval from the board and the super superintendent does not have the authority to adopt or amend policy. Um that sounds a little interesting. Let me just be more forthcoming. that wording. It sounds not like how we um operate. There's a lot of communication and conversation and I'm curious if there's flexibility to change some of that wording. >> I'm sorry, Nancy. Which part are you on? >> Um it's like right

below the first bulleted. >> Oh, okay. >> Okay. Yeah. >> So, if you look where the propose where the O is. Yep. Okay. >> I'm gonna guide you to that language. Oh, right. Right there. >> I don't think it necessarily needs approval from the board, but I'm just wondering what is going to be the pathway. >> I think I think this has more to do with the makeup of the committee and less about this specific committee itself. So when when we establish committees, that's pretty typical for any committee. Um that's how I interpret it. I don't know if you want to speak to it, Brad. >> Yeah, there there may be some recommendations that come from a committee that we implement right away. I mean, I think one is um you know, they want to

be a part of the social studies adoption curriculum. And so that that's something that comes from the committee that they they select representatives for that. uh this is how that language read that really the only change on this um is to make it a superintendent committee rather than a board committee so they don't have to do minutes open it up to the public >> which that I appreciate right there's >> it makes it more community centered versus like >> legalistic sort of >> following um >> all of those procedurals but I wasn't quite sure so >> and so I think Nancy that's kind of the that's the funament al piece that makes it a superintendent committee is that he does have that authority to take the that's that is the kind of the difference between

a superintendent committee and a com and a board committee that's kind of the that's the the crux of it if you will is what what what makes it under that format >> okay >> does that make sense >> yes >> is your what is your stated desire maybe that will >> and just didn't like that language. It sounded weird. >> Oh, got it. Okay. >> And I know that that's not typically how we operate. I mean, there's a lot of transparency and communication and I wasn't sure what that meant in act like in practice. I know what it looks like in paper. >> Um, but what did it look like? What does it look like in fact? >> And that's why I think it's really important to continue to have committee reports because that doesn't

necessarily take board action, but that tells you exactly what's going to happen in the committee. Thank you. >> Yeah. >> Are you okay with that? >> Yes. Okay. Okay. Great. >> Uh, any more more discussion? >> Diane, >> yes. >> And Nancy, >> yes. >> Ollie, >> yes. >> Don, >> yes. >> Rick, yes. Rebecca, >> yes. I vote yes. >> DBEA, budget committee. Move to approve changes to policy AB budget committee. >> I'll second that. >> Any discussion? >> Diane, >> yes. >> Nancy, >> yes. >> Rick, yes. Rebecca, >> I can I just clarify you seconded. Oh, I'm sorry. I did. Michael, >> you usually repeat that. You didn't. >> I know. I didn't. I'm sorry. I'm in a flow state, but apparently not a good enough. Um, okay. K6, GCBD, GDBD. >>

Say that 10 times. >> I move to approve the changes to policy GCBD, GDBD, sick leave, personal illness, and injury relief as presented. >> I second that. >> Thank you, Paulie. Thank you, Nancy. Discussion. >> Okay. Diane, >> yes. >> Nancy, >> yes. >> Holly, >> yes. >> Don, >> yes. >> Rick, >> yes. >> Rebecca, >> yes. >> I vote yes. Next one. K7. Motion. >> I move to approve changes to board policy GC BD GB E military leave of absence as presented. Thank you, Rebecca. Thank you, Rick. Okay, discussion. Diana, >> yes. >> Nancy, >> yes. >> Holly, >> yes. >> Don, >> yes. >> Rick, >> yes. >> Rebecca, >> yes. >> JHCA in relation. I move to approve changes to policy JHBA immunization school participation from other bra injuries as proceed.

>> Thank you Nancy. Thank you Rebecca. Discussion >> Diana. >> Yes. >> Nancy. >> Yes. >> Paulie. >> Yes. >> Don. >> Yes. >> Rebecca. >> Yes. Ja. Motion. I move to approve changes to policy JOA directory information as presented. >> I'll second it. >> Thank you, Nancy. Thank you, Paulie. Discussion. >> Diana, >> yes. >> Nancy, >> yes. >> Holly, >> yes. >> Don, >> yes. >> Rick, >> yes. Rebecca, >> yes. >> I vote yes. Lbea. >> Move to approve changes to policy lbe charter school student enrollment as presented. I'll second it. >> Thank you, Rebecca. Thank you, Paulie. Discussion. Diana, >> yes. >> Nancy, >> yes. >> Paulie, >> yes. >> Don, >> yes. >> Rick, >> yes. >> Rebecca, >> Yes. The next meeting agenda is there for your review. It

is the JAB meeting. Really looking forward to it. >> Great. >> Yay. And so we'll have board or we'll have we'll have dinner at >> we'll have bounc >> it might be a board be a shakuer board I don't know um >> at five and then we'll begin at five later and we are journ thanks and guilty.
