Minithon will be April 10th. We have a clothing drive for students senate through March 16th and all clothes will be dropped off in Miss Grady's room. Sun Valley has started a zen making workshop which is short for magazines and um and it's where kids come in during lunch and make mini drawings and make them into a form of a tiny magazine. and it can be any theme of drawing of their choice. Um the freshman sophomore dance is next Friday with the theme of decades. And finally, math honor society is hosting Pi Day on March 13th where

students will be invited to do different math related activities. Thank you. Hi everyone. This month, Sun Valley sports have been incredibly busy as we are in the process of ending winter sports and starting spring. First, Sun Valley girls basketball is keeping winter sports alive by making it to states with their 57 to 40 win against Westchester East last night. This game will be on March 7th with the location still being determined. This is extremely impressive and it's the first time since 1995. The swim team also has districts this weekend and we wish them the best of luck. The wrestling team finished on a high as Chesmont champs for the seventh year in a row. Lastly, Cheer had both nationals in Florida and their Chesmont League competition. They finished in top three for every division they

competed in for the first time in Sun Valley history. And at nationals, they got fourth for varsity game day, second for varsity traditional, and second for JB Game Day. To start the new season, spring sports officially start Monday, March 2nd, and interest meetings have been ongoing for the past week. We are so excited to see what these spot sports have to come. Lastly, the counselor's office encourages seniors to send in scholarships and college acceptances to be posted on the bulletin board at school. Also, School Links is constantly being updated with new opportunities and scholarships available. So, students should be checking that frequently and staying up to date. >> Thank you, ladies. >> All right. >> Thank you for coming. Appreciate it. >> What's that? >> They take your whole again. >> Well, Maggie tends to

talk to gives a sports update. So, I have some different things this time. We're coordinating a little better now. >> Uh number five tonight on tonight's agenda is the DCIU report. >> I just want to go over a couple things about the general operating budget for the DCIU. Um the DCIU did pass their um operating budget for the 2026 2027 school year. Um the budget is a 12,26,495 budget. Um it does represent a 1.8% increase over the current year, but this increase is going to be fully funded by the DCIU generated revenue through programs and grants and not district contributions. Um and for the 27th consecutive year, there's going there's going to be no general increase the district contributions um for the general operating budget. So, they were pretty proud of that that we're not

going to increase the cost of our member districts for even though our budget is going up. >> Thank you much. Uh number six, superintendent report. Dr. Steinhoff. >> Thank you. >> Good evening everybody. Uh great to have you back. Thank you for productive study sessions. cabinet myself administration appreciate multiple hours spending on our study to go over all the material so we can have a smooth full board meeting. So last week uh we talked about you know continued budget preparation some financial updates discussions about the world auditorium based that we have highly the marketplace the work and the relationships we've built in our school district with all the other projects we've done as well moving forward with that project as soon as the board approves the contract we're really looking forward to that I think

it's going to be gorgeous space talk about proposed cell phone dam legislation that continues to surface a little bit past the Senate. Governor has expressed his support for it. It is awaiting action in the House if any happens at all. Sun Valley administration working with staff students talk about the implications that self as well as potentially some other things we may do in the meantime to reduce screen time on our students. And then we talked at length about our comprehensive plan. We'll chat a little bit about again tonight since this is our public meeting. We talked a little bit about comprehensive planning last week. We are a phase one district. Our premium plan is going to be submitted to PE. That draft plan will be posted online on our website beginning tomorrow for feedback. It's

been a great process. process that built built on the work we already had in place that both of our graduates and our seven seniors the skills that we want to teach our kids confidence collaboration communication perfectly these are the skills that the employers want to see in our new hires talk a little bit about the future framework for public education which was spearheaded by a large group of education groups and the national association of superintendent around five principles of school districts uh that are very distinct much like ours. We prioritize student center that learning based on the survey results that we got back from our parents and community. Parents said, "Look, we want real life skills for our students. We want to make sure we're attracting, hiring, retaining, and the best people. We want to

continue to grow and engage families and the community and business partnerships. Now, we want to make sure that we're measuring what matters, right? Not just state test scores, but things that have lasting impact for our students. These five principles we embedded within our comprehensive plan, and it led to four priorities, high quality student centered learning. Dr. Dr. We already spoke at length about the data that we got from these future revenue index which helps drive some of the goals that we have action plans measuring what matters but we want to identify those things that help us assess our success as a school district and measure those and act on these measures ensuring that we are engaging with families. We are meeting the community and our businesses where they are and saying come join us in

a partnership. Let's continue to grow the good news that we have share that information and then really focusing on workforce excellence committed to excellence, ensuring that we're supporting our staff, we're attracting new hires, we're retaining our best people, and ensuring that our workforce is getting the support that they need. Those are our priorities that we're focused on for the next three years with high quality student center learning building and strengthening on the MTSS plans that have the elementary growing second building upon our PLC's ensuring that we have very solid attendance course collaborative planning ensuring that we have the kind of growth in mathematics that we have seen in language arts. Dr. Mary said something like, "We want to make sure that our teachers are as good at teaching math at the elementary level as they

are at language arts." That really stood out to me. That's where our focus will be based on the data. Uh average attendance attendance rates across the nation are going down quickly. Uh we are like other districts across the nation. We need to make sure that kids come to school. And we want to put our portrait of graduate into practice by ensuring that the resources that our teachers have are there to support teaching real skills for real. We'll identify pieces of student success metrics such as graduation rates such as access post college sorry postsecary coursework uh attendance rates uh growth rates uh participation in extracurriculars. Those are meaningful goals that we want to measure. And then celebrate and then publicize with our with our school community. These are some of the things we're talking about certainly

the core academic focus on the left hand and those student growth have the one proficiency reading proficiency by grade three but then also the other aspect on the right. Do you come to school on a timely basis? What's school climate like? What are your safety measures? Do kids feel they belong in our buildings with their peers? Volunteering community service engagement. measure that we do a lot of it and we should make sure that the community knows what our kids are doing to get back. Um over time we'll be working with the board to kind of identify this list a little bit so that we know what measures we can act upon to really impact the final outcomes and then engage family partnerships. PTL president those we spoke with are excited about this you know they

think that more the families can give they can be more involved in the kids education partner on this but we also think that there's opportunities a lot of our local businesses community agencies to have a more vibrant partnership in which we have some activities that we are really benefiting from the usual nature of the school district and the community that we serve ing that in increasing that number by 50% over period. There's interest in a charitable foundation to help economically disadvantage students and also fund key district priorities plan and then the workforce excellence which we've heard about trying to find ways to to show our support for our employees. Talk about it all the time. Let's make sure they really feel recognized for a job well done. I was happy to tell the board that

I'm particularly impressed with our teachers work on virtual learning days. It's not a day off for them. Uh they work hard and they make sure that our kids get the very best out of those virtual learning days. It's not just making you know they're actually teaching very proudly. We want to work on our work place satisfaction survey and we want to bench compensation benefit and responsibility measures that can inform our total compensation strategies. Those are our priorities. So you continue to refine the plan based on feedback and look at new data proposing that for public reviewed for approval uh at the uh next March meeting that we submitted to PD and then we get to work and we enact those actions. Kindergarten and student registration continues. I want to give a plug uh to our

own Alison Gangle who's our communications coordinator. heard from a lot of people they love our videos of our kindergarten kids promoting our kindergarten signing days and our student registration that we have. So um last year was really taken us the time to get our registration that impacts our plan. We really want to appreciate the parents who have come out for us this year and let us know early enough properly and get their kiddos registered for our school for next year. So you know this kind of media promotion has been really very helpful with kids park side that's a favorite of mine but we're also having kids on signing day it's the first time we've ever done this in look at this class of April 8th we will be at panel April 9th we'll be at

park 14 at commemorative photos meet and greet kids get to be able to see what the inside of our bus looks like all kinds of fun things to We meet uh our mascots for the first time. Just again, it's just we celebrate when kids leave our district at the end of 12th grade and we want to also categorically send kids to the national competition that count. So, congratulations to our winners. Panel, uh every school has some unique things they do. has consistently as Chelsea King and then also Houston and Reel Hagen who represented more Mr. Shabbone was sending me updates from the competition as pleased to be there and see how doing as Maggie mentioned really uh some great highlights that we're seeing lower right hand corner all three cheer teams plac in the top

three girls basketball team first time since 1995 heading to the PIAA state tournament we are wishing them luck girls no surprise Jamear Right. Third district and regional title. Boys won their seventh consecutive chess championship against all the really big teams in chess. Jur competition in track and now we have kids champions and then obviously we have students represent district one swim champions. So great to see so many kids involved and also achieving high levels and into the arts. Uh really pleased the turnout that we had for the North Musical. I say that our high school musicals are competitive with college level ones and I think our middle school musicals are competitive with high school ones as well. Our future starting to emerge middle school soon enough. A lot of people love the fact that you

know we want to joy in schools and there's a lot of joy in celebrating the 100th day of school. I really need to have this teachers make sure they take time to let our kids have some fun with the special days school year pass number 100. And then it was great last Friday uh being at Sun Valley seeing the college entrepreneurship experience the entre competition. We had a number of people from this community out judge a number of different entrepreneur programs class Delaware. Uh we were really pleased to see talent uh step up uh the support that they put into science fair this year. You may remember that we had students from the high school come over and help develop their science fair project. Great combination. We're really pleased to see that we have yet

again representative at the band festival down east. So congratulations to Victor and then principal and two staff members. It's still coming in on Sunday. We're still at the schools to watch conference came across Mr. School Educators. Uh we will be part of Delaware County career fair. So please come out exploration at that fair March 25th time to support staff and also professional and certified staff. Please be part of that countywide career fair and it was a great place to come and work. As I mentioned to you as well, our renovation center will approve them. are scheduled to begin in earnest in June, potentially maybe even end a little bit end of May. So that when the kids come back, start the 26 27 school year, they will be in a brand new updated upcoming event.

Can't wait to see Larkable show. My understanding is the stage craft will be amazing. So in see how it goes. But as you can see, we are really just looking at all kinds of activities coming up. We love it. Get kids off the screens, get kids involved. Variety shows coming up services parent night. That'll be a great evening for then a welldeserved break. That concludes my presentation. >> Thank you, Dr. Steinhoff. Announcements for the public tonight. The board met in executive session to discuss personnel and litigation matters. Number eight, any comments by members of the public? See is none. Any comments by members of the board? Um, one thing I'd like to to bring up, I'd like to thank our administration for the amount of work that was done on the comprehensive plan. Um, that

is something that that Dr. Steinhoff led and his his administration team put together. I believe uh last week we talked was over a hundred individuals involved in coming and putting that together. And it's not easy just to come up with your goals and and and everything has to be measurable or it doesn't make sense. So, um I believe that the comprehensive plan you came up with was something that, you know, we got the input from not only just our administrators, you reached out, you had teachers, you had um uh parents, you had a little bit of everything from the community, and that's what the community wants. This is what we're looking for. And um that's what's that's what we look for in in a comprehensive plan. It's it's how can we do better everywhere, not

just one uh spot. and uh the the endless hours that went into that is greatly appreciated. I know you had spoke a little bit about last week that you were had a little bit of uh anxiety over whether it was going to work doing it the way you did it with so many different groups coming together and it came together perfectly. Um and I'd be willing to bet we have probably one of the best programs out there uh in southeastern Del County. But thank you to your administration for leading that and uh taking the time to do it. >> Correct. >> You're very welcome. Thank you. Um, and if you could pass along to the subcommittees and everything else you had, like I said, it was time well spent. >> Well done. >> So, um,

that comprehensive plan will carry on for a few years till we see the see the progress of it. Um, number 10 tonight is items for board action. uh starts on page I don't know one two three on page four goes through page five six seven uh is the administrative recommendation to approve all personnel items as presented. Do I have this motion? >> Questions or comments? All those in favor? >> Opposed? Motion passes. Uh tonight we'll do a consent agenda for items 11.01 through 11.12. Please note that all bids are sub and contracts are subject to solicitors review. Does anybody wish to have anything pulled to vote on independently? Right. If not, I need a motion for 11.01 through 11.12. So, >> second. >> Any questions or comments? All those in favor? >> Opposed? Motion passes.

Um, any comments by members of the public? >> See, is none. Uh, comments by members of the board. I would like to say I appreciate uh Mr. Manson know he's away tonight. one of the very few meetings he's missed since he's been on the board. But, uh, it's wonderful to see that the whole board gets here and gets involved and, uh, shows up for the meetings as as they, uh, committed to do in running for the office. So, much appreciated. Um, future meetings, uh, February 25th is our next public meeting. No, it's tonight. >> Why' you say future meetings tonight? >> March 18th. >> Yeah. All right. Wednesday, March 18th at 6:30 here at the service center. And then uh the board meeting will be March 25th here at the service center. >> What's that?

>> Study session. >> Actually, I'll have to make that note. Study session will just >> correct. Thank you. >> You're right. Because this month we were here. >> Good thing we have we'll make that adjustment. >> All right. >> Small was excited. She's looking forward to giving a presentation. We have some student uh tours, I believe, actually. students are coming out to give you a tour of Coburn and talk a little bit about leader and me program. >> Okay, >> so that correction is Wednesday, March 18th. We'll be at Coburn Elementary for a study session. Thank you. Motion forj moved.
