All right, we'll call to order a meeting to order with pledge of allegiance, please. [clears throat] >> Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. [clears throat] >> Mrs. Zley, roll call, please. >> Mrs. Ellis, >> here. >> Dr. Huber, >> here. Mrs. Jones >> here. >> Mr. Mansinelli >> here. >> Mr. O'Brien >> here. >> Mrs. Alsley >> here. >> Mr. Sees, >> Mr. Twistler [snorts] >> here, >> Mr. Armor >> here. Uh, tonight I'd like to take this time to have a moment of silence for a custodian over at Northley Middle School who uh suddenly passed away, Mr. Larry Cheddy. [snorts] Thank you everyone. Uh, number No, this put this put
all kinds of stuff on here. >> It's weird. >> All right. 2.01 is a approval of monthly minutes from the [clears throat] November 19th special board meeting December 1st and the reorganization meeting of December 1st. Do I have this motion? >> Second. >> Questions or comments? All those in favor? >> Opposed? Motion passes. 2.02 is the invoice listing. Motion is to approve the invoice listing through January 28th of 2026. Do I have this motion? >> Second. >> Questions or comments? >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Opposed? Motion passes. 2.03 is the treasures report. >> There we go. As of November 30th, 2025, Pendulko's balance was 68,113,320. During December 2025, local, state, and federal revenues totaled 5,333,184. Dispersements were issued in the amount of 11,946,416. As of December 31st, 2025, Pendel's current balance is
$61,588. Motion is to approve the treasures report for December 2025. So move >> second. >> Questions or comments? All those in favor? >> I opposed. Motion passes. Number three on tonight's agenda is the student representative report to the board. Ladies, >> good evening. It is great to be back for another meeting this month. We have a decent amount to cover this evening since we meet in December. So, we'll jump right in. First off, I'd love to give a huge shout out and congratulations to Braden Diovani for earning a full academic ride ride scholarship to Northwestern University. He will be attending Northwestern in Indiana in the fall. Way to go, Braden. Our first day back from winter break, Sun Valley held his annual graduation panel where seniors from the previous class come back and share their
experiences and where they are now post high school. The panel featured Gabriel Pomerini who attends Richmond University, Angelina Ellis who attends Eastern University, Bana Morris who attends Temple University, and Malia Mucko who who attends Penn State University main campus. Congratulations to Junior Es Junior Lucy Espazito who qualified for the PMA Region Choir Festival. Um she it will be held at Nesimini High School from February 19th to the 21st. Over the next six weeks, she will have prepared nine pieces of music in audition in audition for an opportunity to advance to the state level. Another congratulations to students Riley Johnson, Jayanna Joseph, and Logan Ramsey who were selected to participate in this year's American Legion or goal competition. Riley ended up earning 300, Jayanna $200, and Logan $100. On January 15th, Sun Valley held its second
combined honor society induction where over a 100 students got inducted in National Honor Society math, social studies, science, English, music, and art. And lastly, there is a new club at Sun Valley called the Positivity Positivity Project. This is a club where students will work on projects that spread positivity around the Sun Valley community. The first week, the club did affirmation pins with kind messages on them and pass them around to different people around the school. Thank you. Hi everyone. I'm going to start talking about our very exciting sports news. So, first we are extremely proud of Lucy De Mo who scored her a thousand a thousandth point at an away game against Kennet last Friday. This was the first person since 2019 and the 10th girl to ever reach this record. Along with this, girls
basketball will have its senior night tomorrow, January 29th, and boys basketball will have it on Monday, February 2nd. Wrestling senior night is February 4th and although track rate waits to have a senior night until the spring, the girls will have a meet at of Alveria University on Friday. Next, we would like to congratulate the following swimmers on making districts. Lucas Habich, Brian Cassidy, Mara Lquist, McKenna Dormer, Abby Falconee, Angela Taylor, Aean Gervin, and Shane Williams. Finally, for sports, the cheerleaders are leaving next Thursday, February 5th, for nationals at Universal in Orlando, Florida. Here they will compete for three days and go against many competitive teams from all over the nation to try and be named national champions. Moving on from sports, the choir is performing the decade show on Tuesday, February 3rd at Sun Valley.
Tickets are now on sale for $5. Today we also finished submitting student course selections for the 2026 to 2027 school year. But this year we used school links, the new program that we've been using in place of Nvian. We also had just finished our new midterms for the new school year following the new schedule that was put into place. Thank you, ladies. Carl, did you steal my superintendent report? >> I don't know. I'm going to be very repetitive. >> Matt, you're going to send that information for that recommendation? >> Yes. >> Perfect. Great. Thank you. >> Yeah. I actually I have something on behalf of the cheer team that we wanted to say if that's okay. Um I'm here on behalf of the Sun Valley cheer team where the cheerleaders have to come together to
write and support this meth message. We wanted to talk about as a whole we had feel we have felt underappreciated under represent under representative. We often feel like our sport is pushed aside and not a priority. We show up to almost every single event that is asked of us and we do it with no complaints but instead excitement and support. This year especially, we have been put behind basketball, practicing from whenever their game is finished until 10 p.m. when we still have to do homework, eat, and be up at 6:30 the next day for school. Both of our coaches have won coach of the year through Infinity, which is one of the largest cheer organizations and also the host of nationals without any recognition. Although there are no direct records that we can break, Sun
Valley Cheer is accomp accomplishing new skills and performing better than the program ever has before. We are very appreciative of Mr. Raph who has helped us as much as he can but we are evolving into stronger athletes and performing more elite level skills. We need the so we need the appropriate equipment. This brings us to the quest for new mats as ours do not not support the needs of our cheer team. In cheerleading a full panel that we compete on is nine panels. The school has given us 10 to split between both Sun Valley and Northley. We divided this into three mats for Northley and seven for Sun Valley as anything less than seven is extremely unrealistic for a team that performs at the level that we do. This situation is both unfair for Sun
Valley and Northley. These mats are also old versions of cheer mats where one is not the same size as the rest and they are not all the same type of mat. The mat also ha some mats also appear to sorry some mats also appear to have what looks like rodent scratches and bite marks on the bottom. One practice the mat became unavailable for us to use that week because it had such a strong stench from being left in the closet all weekend which was also the same day where these marks appeared. In addition, Sun Valley does not have the proper equipment to support a full panel. So during our friends and family night, we had to ask Aston to bring in their mats. Although we are extremely grateful for the Aston cheer family, it feels
embarrassing for us as high school cheerleaders to have to ask for their mats as we are supposed to be the team that they're looking up to. We appreciate the support you have already shown Sun Valley cheer, but we would love to see this equipment and is not only necessary, but also allows us to keep growing and developing into better and more skilled athletes. >> So thank you, Maggie, for >> Yes. in that advocacy. I can tell you that since I think in the last three or four years, the cheer team has just exploded in popularity. >> Highly talented uh no question point of pride for the school. >> You know, you guys, it's not just like a club for a couple people just cheering at a basketball game anymore. Competitive cheer team that we become
proud of. >> I want to make sure that Mr. Rafley has turned these requests coaches as well. >> And then in terms of support processes, coaches have let them know as needed >> and generally support processes safely. >> Yeah. We just wanted to make sure that like the cheerleaders were like power. >> Sure. Absolutely. So um and I and that's why we have students on board so that you guys can bring the views of students and not just tell the good news but also share with us. I'll stop talking. >> Thank you so much. >> Any questions? >> May I guess can I request that we recognize the cheer team along with the coaches who got recognition as well? recognize here. >> Get that on the agenda. >> I don't know if he'll get back
to the board and let us know what's needed and we'll uh see what we can do. >> And Maggie, if you have that typed up and you want to send that to me, feel free. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Thank you. >> I just want to add one more thing. Maggie, thank you so much for sharing that and good luck because I know you usually cut out early before the meeting's over. So, good luck down in Florida next weekend. >> Thank you so much. [clears throat] >> Want to apologize. We have to go back to uh number two on the agenda. I missed 2.04 budget transfer report. Um motion is to approve the budget transfer report uh through Jan January 28th, 2026. I have this motion. >> Some moved. Second. >> Questions or comments?
All those in favor? opposed. Motion passes. Uh we don't have a DCIU report tonight. Um number six is Dr. Stanhol superintendent report. And everybody, thank you for your interest that are here as well. going to go through a few items that we have ready for this evening. So last week study session long meeting got a lot accomplished. Uh we had some great discussions in addition to preparing for the agenda for tonight. We had some discussions about donations from community athletic groups which we very grateful for about increasing the credit requirements at Sun Valley High School. gradually increase the number of credits required to graduate amount of rigor the opportunities for students to take more courses. Uh we talked about center for safe school safety and security assessment which we will enter an agreement to again
so we can make sure that we're getting a outside third party assessment of our safety security operations. Talked about establishing a halftime safety and security coordinator position. Uh we talked about the preliminary budget preparation where we are coming in currently under the act index. Uh office of capital improvements uh had some representative reports from the IU and also a legislative report and of course we have a regular HR personnel update. So very productive meeting and I want to thank panel I want to thank Miss Palino who hosted us uh for the study session. Really inspiring [clears throat] presentation by her. Great things are happening at panel. Uh there fun positive vibe there. Staff is united on doing right by kids. Uh just a wonderful uplifting presentation made me feel really good proud of what they
have going on at Panel Elementary. And [clears throat] just today uh I saw that they're have released their latest update of the mass greeter. These are the kind of small things. They look like small things to us, but they're very big things to the staff. They have to take the time to put these kind of presentations together for our kids. So, through the work of its leader and me team, they decided that they would bring the mask for us to we've got volunteers wearing conflicting costumes, hiding identities while they read a book aloud. and kids get excited about the book while they're also trying to listen closely, collaborate and guess who is that person who's behind the costume. So, it's a lot of editing, a lot of work on teachers part. I just want to
acknowledge it. This is another example of kind of things that our staff do to make learning fun. We're currently in week three of that seventh week. [clears throat] It's schoolboard recognition month. I know this school board traditionally um doesn't like to make a big deal about it. Um, I think it's important that we recognize and honor you for investing the time, the effort, and the care that you put in to improve the school district. Just some facts that the public may not be aware of. Pennsylvania has one of the largest public education systems in the nation. We have 500 locally elected school boards governing almost every community in the Commonwealth. Schoolboard members do not get paid. They have unpaid volunteers in Pennsylvania. Countless hours each month in meetings, committee, work, professional development. Most Pennsylvania school
board directors serve four-year terms with staggered elections. You are responsible to oversee multi-million dollar budgets, fiscal accountability while ensuring instructional programs, student services, facilities, staff all meet the mark. You have to complete mandatory training under Pennsylvania law, including ethics, standards, governance responsibilities. Local school boards are among the most accessible forms of government. They provide our residents a direct voice in decisions that shape schools, communities, and local tax policy. And Pennsylvania school boards oversee districts that educate nearly 1.7 million students in the Commonwealth. Thank you for your service. It's greatly appreciated. We do have a thank you gift we talked about a little bit earlier. Not here tonight. Hopefully we'll be in square next month. And [music] >> all right, whenever you're ready. >> Hi, school board. >> Happy schoolboard [music] appreciation month. Happy schoolboard appreciation
month. >> Happy schoolboard appreciation month. >> I'm going to mess up. >> I don't know what to say. I don't know what to say. I'm ready now. Hey, school board. Um, I'm [music] a student athlete and I want to thank you for all of our facilities and sports teams and coaches and [music] etc. >> I just wanted to say thank you for all of the clubs and activities provided at [music] Sun Valley like newspaper club and model UN. It [music] helps me strengthen my confidence and I feel like it will help me with my career in the [music] future. My name is Alexa and I'm involved in Black Student Union, Student [music] Senate, and PBIS. I just wanted to thank you for all the programs you offer and supporting our schools. >> Uh, I [music]
just wanted to say thank you to the school board uh for all their um volunteer time and their decision-m around here. [music] Um, it's very appreciated. I just wanted to thank the school board for their flexibility and [music] willingness to be so nice about passing different clubs and new ideas within our school. [music] >> Thank you for all the opportunities you've given me to strengthen my leadership skills and strengthen the community at [music] Sun Valley High School. >> Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share the board experience with you. And thank you for supporting so many different clubs that allow students to express themselves. [music] Last year we heard from little kids. This year you heard from [clears throat] now available. Just the public service announcement. Student registration is open for next year.
Uh we're really pleased with the initial results that we're seeing in terms of our incoming kindergarten uh early registrations. Um big issue is a reminder that parent was checking the age requirements and we are very excited that we will be having kind of kindergarten signing dates for incoming kindergarten students in April. So we get closer to those dates we're going to open up our doors for all our incoming kindergarten families as well asking the community parents employees for their feedback. So our pandemic planning survey uh is live and is active. that's open through February 8th. You can access that by going right to our website. We've emailed the link out. Uh we will also make sure that that gets emailed out as part of the principal weekly messages. Um it's there. We really want your
opinion. It's purposefully short. We're really hoping that that we get more participation particularly from members of the public, community, and parents. The winter weather update. U so to mention at this point in time, first of all, hats off to our maintenance crew. They did a phenomenal job. Some images here as we'll consult. I wrote up the other day in front of Avenue building. But I'll tell you, some of our buildings think the snow missed complete because our guys just work so hard. Um first two days are always traditional snow days. I think that works well in this community. I think it works well in our district. Kids get to be kids. Kids get to make memories. Kids get to get out, make some money, make a buck. I heard from a lot of high school
kids that were out shoveling uh doing pretty well. So it worked out pretty well just through the traditional stud days. Then we we transition to flexible instruction days and we always continue to communicate by email, phone call, text message, all those things virtual flexible learning. So some school districts went to FID before we did kind of question I had is why weren't we virtual flexible? Because we had not used our two traditional snow days. We have done that now. So in the future any climate weather day, we will be adhering. It's important to note it's not an unlimited amount. Apply [clears throat] to have five of those days. So, you still have to be careful about not using up too many flexible instruction virtual learning days, but that might exceed the minute that you finish.
We have a new edition of the Pendel podcast out. Uh I was pleased to interview Mr. Bringing who is our astronomy teacher and planetarium extraordinaire. So he um talked a little bit about the upgraded swanarium and the really exciting spontane offerings that we have at sundown. You girls mentioned Lucy Deo. These are wonderful pictures that were taken by our own Allison Gangle who actually was out at the game at Ken where Lucy hit,000 points. Just I just love seeing the joy there. um remarkable family, great kid, and again more evidence, you know, when you're really committed at at Sun Valley and you want to become an ex exceptional athlete, you can do so from athletics academics. So, North has always had spelling be this move away from we've had like some great spellers over years.
You guys may remember Pas who went all the way down to the national spelling in Washington. Um, I think we had Phoebe Smith who was accounting champion several times. This year we've got youth Khan who will be representing Northley Middle School and he went out on the word Gardia. I'm sorry, not went out, he won on the word Gardinia and it's Roy told the kids that morning, you never forget the word he went out. So when it came to counter championship, you know, little Georgie Steinoff went out on Clare Boys. I'll never forget that work simply because my cousin Claire Francis was in the audience and he was looking right at me like that. I forgot in the eye. Well, he did Gardinia uh and did quite well. So, we're really excited for him. Uh
great family, great kid and excellent runner up as well in real mention Sunday honor societies. I think take a look at the pictures there. You see really distinctive event. Um had some board members there. Hopefully they enjoyed the evening. We're really excited. We honor the National Honor Society members who are inducted, but also all the students who are in all the other academic uh honor societies as well. So maybe the math honor society, social studies honor society. In the past, some would have them at the end of the year in the morning. There's just a lot going on at that time. Here it was a little more distinctive. It kind of raises it up a little bit for those students to get the honors in the specific academic disciplines. I was real excited with what
our uh elementary schools have been doing in coordination with the leader in reading program. Uh they took time, you know, before the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday uh to do put their leadership in action and it's a handon project. Particularly impressed uh with the first responders over at Brook Haven who came in, fire department, police department, participated with our kids. teachers got out of the way, let the student leaders kind of run these events and it was just a day of service and you know students learned so much from that and they they felt that this was a meaningful activity. We really appreciate the service learning opportunities that are going on in our schools. We also have student life lighthouse team at Northley. You can tell they loved the donuts apparently. So that was principal
Shioone kind enough to have a treat for them. Um but in terms of leader program there uh he is now meeting with their student leaders uh to bring the seven habits to life talk about how we can improve the school um what kind of activities we can add to the experience there. Northley is hitting on all cylinders over there this year. Very very impressed and we're really excited that now the leadership opportunities for leader are also at the middle school. The girls mentioned the clubs. I was really happy because that's been a focus for us this year. We want kids engaged. You want kids staying after school. We appreciate the board adding more units for some additional clubs. And here's just some examples. Culture club at the middle school. Speech and debate. We do have
it right. Forensics club used to be called positivity project at Sun Valley. Chess club at Sun Valley. So not just athletics, not just academics, but activities as well. We're really pleased to see a very large number of students participating in these activities. Upcoming events. Can't wait to see lay miz will be at the high school. My understanding is very impressed design that they have going on up on the stage. So in that new auditorium I think that's just going to be a smashing success. the decade show next week they mentioned and [clears throat] then at the middle school legal blonde the musical right that will be coming up next week as well February 5th six and seven and we have really busy period ahead [cough and clears throat] services on 13th we have different holiday
our study session we have global dance in Pelico on special person dance we mentioned play special person dance the as action night there's lots of great activities going on in Pelico Thank [clears throat] you for the opportunity to share good news about Thanksgiving session to discuss personnel litigation matters. Any comments by members of the board? >> Comments by members of the public board action personnel items starts on page five. Goes through page 12. Is the administrative recommendation to approve all items as presented? Do I have this motion? So move second. >> Questions or comments? >> All those in favor? >> Opposed? Motion passes. We'll do a consent agenda from 11.01 01 through 11.13. Does anyone wish to have anything to vote on? With that, I need a motion to approve 11.01 through 11.13. Please note
that all these are subject to solicitation. So, second >> questions or comments? All those in favor? Motion pass. Number 12. Comments by members of the call. Any comments by members of the board? I'd like to say welcome back to all the kids, teachers. Got their little snow day vacation. Hopefully, it's the last one of the year, but if not, uh we have that uh virtual learning days that we can enact and we won't have to make up any days come June when it's time on vacation. Kind of stinks when it's snowing outside. You got to sit on a computer, but nobody wants to be in school in the middle of June or the end of June for that matter. [clears throat] Excuse me. Um we have some future meetings. Uh So, the future meetings for
February will be, sorry, they're not on the agenda. >> February 18th will be our uh study session and February 25th will be the um board meeting here at the service center. Motion for German.
