001Check, check, check, check. Check, check, check. Does she still have it on there? >> Check. Can you hear? Huh? You can hear back there? Okay. Okay, you want me to go ahead and turn it off? What time are we at? No, I can mute it from From there, okay. Okay. I move to approve the agendas presented. Okay. There's a motion by Allison. Second. And then second by Dalton. Dalton? Yeah. He doesn't need a second for that one. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes, 6-0. And the next item is approval of the minutes from March 9th. Anybody have any questions, comments, additions, changes? Hearing none, I would entertain a motion to approve. So moved. Motion by Allison. I'll second. Second by Josh. All those in favor say aye. Aye.
002Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes. And approval of the treasurer's report. I'm putting it for your review. I would entertain a motion to approve. So moved. Motion by Allison. Second. Second by Dalton. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes, 6-0. Approval of invoices. Is there anything, Mr. >> [clears throat] >> Robinson, you'd like to draw our attention to? So, yes, a few items that are on there. We have our billable credits from Graduation Alliance for the month of February, which came to $129,534. We did go ahead and pay an advance on our credit card payment we had. It was pretty high this this month with our having our basketball rooms for staying some of those activities on there. So, you'll see an advance credit card payment of $10,289. We
003were able to get the power to the CNC machine and the kiln. That came in at $9,972. So, those are up and running now or in the process of being close to being running. And then we also had our sped assessments for our special education services through CKCIE, and that came in at $106,081. So, those were some items I wanted to make you aware of. Any other questions? Not, I would entertain a motion to approve the invoices as presented. So moved. Motion by Allison. Second. Second by Josh. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Item number six is reconciliation and cash balances report, which is attached for your review. Any questions or comments? Okay. Item number seven is recognition of visitors, which there are none. Item number eight is
004administrative reports. So, things are getting real at CPES. During spring break, eight came and worked on our drainage issue. They got that all taken care of. Now, we just need some more rain to see how that's going to work. Um they came today and they moved our storage container. They put up the snow fence. They started the dirt work, and now all the little kids are just hanging by the windows because there's a lot of big equipment out there. Super excited. Our third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders are working on state assessments this week, um and also our second grade will be taking an optional state assessment. That testing window closes on April 24th. Right before spring break, we had the Ozark area leapers come and perform a gymnastics routine for us. It was loud,
005it was exciting, and the energy was through the roof. So, a special thanks to H&B for making those arrangements for us. We did have a great turnout for our three- and four-year-old preschool roundup. Right now, we're looking at 27 three-year-olds and 26 four-year-olds, and we've had a few calls in the meantime, so I'm not sure if those numbers were already on the list, but we're still grabbing it. Uh Mr. Robinson and some of his students built us a new sandbox to add to the playground, so that's been a fun addition. Hannah Canales is our student of the week. She's the daughter of Kyler and Kristen Canales. Ms. Lanham's art students have submitted many prize-winning pieces. She had a Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest that quite a few students won on, and then Genevieve Beck also
006won second place in the World Rabies Day Contest, and she will receive a prize along with a $400 donation to the grade school. Looking ahead, we have quite a few field trips scheduled over the next couple weeks. The second graders are going to the Pizza Hut in Ellsworth. Third graders are going to the Rolling Hills Refuge in Salina. The fourth graders are going to Hays for putt-putt and ice cream. The fifth graders are going to the Hollywood Depot and the Cosmosphere and the sixth graders are going to go to Clara Barton in Hoisington and then an Ellsworth Safety Day. And I just want to give a shout out to Jamie Zink for getting all of this arranged because this is a lot for the busing. Our art show and music concert is scheduled for May
0077th. The K-2 program begins at 6:15 with the art show and then our music concert at 6:45 and then the third through sixth grade art show begins at 7:05 and our music concert begins at 7:30. Any questions? Thank you. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> I'm handing in the diplomas as well as the all of the keys for every drawer at Wilson. And then the transcripts and I don't know why that is but I'm sure it's something you all need. Um So, it is busy. This is a busy time of year and lots of fun to watch everybody. On the 17th we'll have back in the classroom where Central Plains will be joining all of our littles to enjoy new lesson regarding regarding agriculture. We are in the middle of state testing so we've been
008very similar to um to Hollywood. On the 20th fifth and sixth grade will be going to Sterling. On the 27th we also have our spring and art concert. On the 30th fourth grade will be headed to Ellsworth for conservation. Sixth [clears throat] grade will be headed for a safety day at Great Bend. And then on the first of May the Cosmosphere is coming to Wilson. Um We also have a bunch of um field trips too but I they were like so many. We could stand here for a good So, the biggest one is going to be happening on May 14th. Our entire building will be headed to Tanganyika. So, I know Mr. um will be will be talking with you about that. Um on the daycare and I know he's going to be talking about
009that as well but we do still have five friends that are either full-time or part-time enrolled. Um we're at 57 overall with enrollment still. We did lose one over spring break. Um on the 27th of March we had a grand celebration. You should have all been there. The whole gym was all aglow with a glow party. Um Um there was glowing accessories and music and enthusiastic energy and the students parents celebrated with us. Um it just gave an opportunity for us to recognize students for meeting your AR goals and the Read Across America goals and there's all kinds of things. I still need to color my hair purple so there's that coming down the pike here and some other fun things that we're still trying to get all sorted out so we get it all
010in. Uh this month I would like um Dudley would like to send out a sizzle snort to Mr. DeLaubell our sixth grade language arts and PE teacher. It that should say fifth and sixth grade. I apologize. Um he keeps students thinking and moving and engaged with his dynamic approach to learning. I'd also like to recognize our third grade teacher Miss Major. She makes her classroom shine through her enthusiasm, creativity, and genuine care for students. These two I can't talk this afternoon. These two truly bring the sizzle with their dedication and the snort with the positivity that they spread throughout Wilson. Please join us in congratulating Mr. DeLaubell and Miss Major on this well-deserved recognition and thank you both for making WES a great place to learn. So, it's been a good month. Lots of fun
011things going on. Any questions? Have a great great month. All right. I am taking several students on Wednesday this coming Wednesday to a Build Your Future event in Salina. Um It's area businesses and technical schools for students to be able to kind of connect with those industry people and colleges that are they might be interested in so I I've never been. I've always wanted to go but Salina was a long way. So, I'm excited to uh get to take students to that and then on Friday um Mrs. whoever is taking some kids to a health and behavioral science day at Fort Hays State University. So, we're trying to get some things for our kiddos to attend outside the school to learn about careers. Um a couple weeks ago I took four students [clears throat] the
012picture on the next page. Um she the CPL honors banquet in Ness City. Um [clears throat] the school's in an old bank building so that was fun. It's just a really long way to Ness City. Uh we hosted a spring CTE night a couple weeks ago and had several community members come up where they learned how to press on a t-shirt or a bag for our business our graphic tech program and then they could also [snorts] learn how to make a pasta that the students taught them how to do. So, it was really fun. We had several people come up and partake in that. So, we hope to continue to do those just to highlight things. It's a good opportunity for our kiddos to shine as well. We had several come up for extra credit
013opportunities to in those in those classes. So, um I have senior signing day set for May 1st at 8:00 here at the high school. I don't know if any of you attended that last year but we will have set up a table for each of the students and each of their career or college plans. And ask a mentor to sit down and sign a contract with them and then ask their parents to come and we take lots of pictures of them and then we'll hang those up for graduation so people can see where students are headed. It's my favorite day of the year so I'm really excited about it. We get Barton County actually called and asked if they could come to it this year so I'm really excited about that. College reps if we
014can get them to come have them come as well. Last year we even had a sports rep come and um with the students. So, excited for that. Our kids are more focused on their senior skip day than anything else I have to talk to them about but it it's a good time. Um the other thing I have on here is Excel and CTE classes at Barton County. I wanted to just kind of show you. We've talked about this in the past and I'm sorry I didn't get this attached to the agenda today but these are the programs that the students are eligible to take in the fall. And so I just kind of wanted to let you know about this opportunity. So, they have they run two different sessions. They have an afternoon session which
015you can see is plumbing, construction tech, and welding. And then on the other side they have a morning session which is ag mechanics and then construction technology, plumbing, and then welding. Um so, the way those run is the morning sessions would run so that the students could complete the certificate program within that semester. So, if for example we had someone enroll in the construction technology within I'm sorry, within the fall semester they would be able to complete the the 18 credit hour certificate program for example at Christmas time. So, um the afternoon sessions are more built for like if juniors are wanting to take two years to complete a program or if you have a senior that just wants to maybe start in a program but not sure that that's what they want to do
016so then they could finish it later on or they could do the first semester and then take the second semester and complete. So, lots of different opportunities. I set a meeting information meeting for parents of going to be seniors for Wednesday night so I can explain all of this to them. Um We will have some pretty specific guidelines because as you can see construction tech and welding are both on here and we offer both of those programs here at the high school. So, I don't want to take away from our funding and our enrollment here. So, there will be a few requirements as like they will need to have completed two to three classes in that area before we can send them on to the college. I think they need that background. Most kids that
017are in those programs have done that in their high school. So, there will be a a little bit of meat there, a little bit of teeth there that they can't just have never taken a welding class and go enroll in welding the welding program. There will also be some other requirements having to do with attendance here cuz I don't want them to not attend. They will have to keep their grades up here as well because we don't want them to not graduate high school because they're going to college. So, I just wanted to give you an update. I'm really trying to get this off and going. I know I've been talking about it for a while but we're kind of ready to pull that trigger. We visited with Jamie the other day and we feel
018like the transportation won't be an issue so students will come to the high school and then we will transport them over and back from those classes. So, just kind of wanted to give you an update on that. Um you can see our next section is the numbers we have out for spring sports, we have lots of lots of kiddos out for lots of things. If you walk through on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, you probably won't see very many students here. We we are often very spread out all over. Um we did host the Euler relays in Ellenwood last week. We're hosting tennis on the 20th, and then we'll have the NHS induction on the 24th. And this was not on the calendar, so I wanted to make sure you guys were aware of this.
019We're going to do the CPS CPHS awards banquet on May 12th at 6:00 p.m. It's a Tuesday night. We're going to try to do a Tuesday. There wasn't anything else on the calendar. I don't So, [clears throat] if that doesn't work out, we'll go with the next day. So, we also are going strong in state assessments, finishing up those this week, so we can do makeup tests next week. And then our community cleanup day, which is hosted by our NHS and our leadership class, will be on May 6th. So, if you have any projects that need to be done, make sure you let us know, so we can send some students your way. Right. Thank you. I do appreciate how you're making sure that they're the kids are doing some of those prerequisite classes to
020Yeah, I appreciate all that. >> [clears throat] >> Okay. Item number nine, our district two board position. Yes, we do have a gentleman that's interested in the district two open board position seat. Um His information is on our board packet that you guys can find on there. Mr. Thomas Lawyer. Um to kind of have a discussion on which direction you guys want to go with that. Um As far as how that would work, um he would just be filling the term that was not filled from the last election. So, you guys do have the authority to um select him to be on the board or not to select him to be on the board. Um if you would like to try to schedule a time for him to come in to one of the upcoming
021board members meetings to visit and tell you a little bit about himself, we can do that, too. Um we would go forward that way. So, I just wanted to open the discussion up for you guys to have that conversation. I can wait. I think my phone is buzzing. I can I can confirm his address was in the correct district. I called uh the county clerk at Ellsworth County, and she said that is district two. So, he is living in the correct district. Just wanted to make sure cuz I'm not familiar with that name. I do appreciate and understand, especially now with um some of the discussions that have been had about the direction things are moving, wanting to have be sure that they have representation. Yeah. So, I don't Do we need to approve him
022tonight, or like if we have him come to the next board meeting, could we meet him and then approve him and have him take the oath right then? [clears throat] Yeah, I can have him ready cuz I think that's what we did with Shawn last time after she came in and introduced herself, so we visited, and then we can have him sign the oath that night. I'll make that motion. >> [clears throat] >> And I can reach I can reach out to him and schedule it for the next board meeting or there's another board meeting between now and then to have him come and visit with you guys and tell a little bit about himself. >> [clears throat] >> If that's what you'd like me to do or like us to do. I'm good. Good
023direction. Okay. I second that motion. And item number 10, the Wilson Elementary Daycare. So, we discussed this a little bit last board meeting. Um Mr. Keith reached out to me before the last board meeting and was trying to work with some people to see if there was a way that uh somebody would kind of take that over and run it. We we really haven't any takers at this time. Um I think some of the uncertainty is the amount of kids that's going to be there after school's let out. I know we have a kid or two that belongs to a couple teachers that are not going to be staying in the district, so I think that's a little bit of the uncertainty about the exact number of kids that we have moving into the summer
024and next year. So, at this time we don't have really anybody to run it past that last day of operation unless we keep it open on our own. But then that leaves a lot of uncertainty for us in what that looks like moving forward as well. So, Yeah. We need to communicate with at least the one parent to let them know when that last day is going to be, so they can be able to work on what they need to do to make accommodations for that. So, I think yeah, I think this probably makes more sense to to just go ahead and say the last day of school can be the last day of operation. Are there any other thoughts or comments or anything? If not, I would entertain a motion to move that the
025last day of operation for the Wilson Elementary Daycare will be Tuesday, May 19th, 2026. So moved. Motion by Allison. Seconded by Dalton. All those in favor, say aye. Aye. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes 6-0. Item number 11, the road by the Okay, so um spoke with Mr. Herder a few times via text and via phone. So, um we were talking about the road by the practice football field that's actually on school property, but that's his entrance to his property as well. So, we've kind of been working through this. Our original conversation revolved around the average price per acre and what that looked like and the amount of road um that he would need to be able to access his property. Um so, originally we were talking maybe between $1,000 and $2,000. Well, we had
026a call into Barton County, but since then we got a call back from Barton County on what they call their Orca website that has all the property values listed. And I have that document right here that I'll pass around that I got from Barton County for you guys. They valued that road at $15,810. Is that what's highlighted on there? Okay. So, um whenever I talked to Jonathan about that, he's not interested in in it at that price. He would be interested in purchasing about 60% of it, but he would be somewhere between $1,000 and $2,000 more. Um so, I need to kind of know a direction on how you guys wanted to go forward with that. Um but also keep in mind um if not, if we decide not to sell it, um we just
027need to sit down and have an agreement made on what he has access to and what we're not going to do. I mean, we're not ever going to block his property for him getting in or anything else like that. So, >> we just formalize an easement? We could. We could formalize just an agreement between both both entities, just making sure that we're not going to block his property, he has access to the road, those sorts of things. So, um if that's what you guys want want to do. So, I think that makes the most sense cuz by the time we have it surveyed and go through all the the legal formalities, too, if we wouldn't sell it to him, it would cost us more than than it's worth to do all that. So, it would
028be easiest just to do an agreement with him. Okay. That's what you guys would like. We will work on that. I second that motion. Is he okay with not buying it? He he would rather buy it, but he I mean, with with that property valuation of being so high on that road, I mean, he don't want the whole area going back there. He just wants it up to his property. So, you're looking at the price 60% of that road, but that's even 7,500 bucks if we go off of their estimates on what we want to sell it for. Um our last conversation was just if he um you know, if we were in the price range that he was able to buy that road at and just having a an agreement written out on what
029that was going to look like for easement when he had Ultimately, you know, we want him to build whatever he wants over there for housing and those sorts of things, but What about road improvement? Like if he wanted to improve that That would be something that we would probably write in the agreement on what that would look like. >> like it needs a little bit of improvement as far as kind of going in. Yeah. I mean, you can negotiate terms of splitting the cost or something like that. Yeah. I just think that makes more sense cuz if you only sell him part of it, the other part's useless to us. And yeah. That would be my thoughts, too. Okay. So, like a mutual agreement, is that what you're saying? With an easement in there. We'll
030work on that and try to get that back to you guys in a timely fashion, so he can kind of start planning on what he wants to do over there. So, Okay, ASB renewal. Okay, so um our KASB [clears throat] membership is up for renewal. It does have a slight increase in the cost from year to year. So, that uh we have participated in the legal assistance and we've used that quite a bit this past year. So, I'm fortunate that we did opt into that. So, uh last year we were at $13,679.01 for our KASB renewal. This year it comes in at $14,094.38 for this next school year. So, I would recommend moving forward with renewing our KASB policy. Um >> [snorts] >> they've been really really helpful with everything this year. So. I would
031entertain a motion to renew our association. So moved. Motion by Allison. Second. Seconded by Josh. Any further questions, comments, discussion? Hearing none, all those in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes 6-0. Item number 13, the one-day senior trip. So, we've uh attached the proposed uh senior day for their one-day trip to our document. So, that item is on there for you guys to look at. Fresh eyes on it. >> [snorts] >> So, it has their their skip day itinerary on there going to eat breakfast and then Topgolf in Wichita, some lunch, chicken and pickled and bowling arcade at the Lucky Strike, and then the Towne East Mall, and then do an escape room, and then dinner dinner, and then they will head back this way um as soon as they're done
032with dinner dinner, and that's on April 17th. So, that's coming up here fairly quickly that they need to have their permission forms turned in by. So. And it looks like that's actually taking place on the 22nd. So, I would entertain a motion to approve senior day as presented. Second. Motion by Elton, second by Allison. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes 6-0. Item number 14, summer school. So, we do have summer school at Central Plains Elementary School on there. Um looking at approximately 25 to 30 kids grade 7 at K- through 3, and they have 10 days scheduled on there from 8:30 to noon starting July 6th and then ending the 17th. So, um we do have a couple teachers that have volunteered to help, and some paraeducators as
033well. Could be possibly looking for one more teacher to slide in there to help, and we have the cost on there, total cost looking around $8,100 for the summer December so summer school at the elementary at Central Plains. Any questions? I would entertain a motion to approve summer school at Central Plains Elementary as for 2026 as presented. So moved. Motion by Allison. Second. Seconded by Josh. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes 6-0. Item number 15, the technology rotation. Okay, so we had our technology committee meet a couple weeks ago um and we're working on that rotation. What we would like to do is order nine more Clear Touch panels to go along with the ones that need to move uh need to be moved to be in classrooms
034because we've used refunds for those. This would give almost every classroom in the district a Clear Touch panel. We also need to look at either a rotation or replacing the desktop computers in Miss Crisis' room. And guys, this has been a real chore for uh for Evan and Scott trying to help come up with these quotes. These tariffs from day to day that they're putting on these technology items are absolutely crazy. So, from day to day it just depends. So, we're working on this right now. Um we don't feel comfortable making a recommendation at this at this mark with kind of the fluctuation of prices. Um a couple of the quotes for all the Clear Touch panels came in around $42,000, and then the desktop computers right now had them um around $1,000 a piece.
035So, 20 of those is is around $20,000. We have about $14,000 left in refund grants to go towards this, but then we got a quote in today for the Clear Touch panels with a tariff, and they were like $61,000. So, we're going to [clears throat] work on this trying to get this narrowed down a little bit more, but it's not easy at this point. So, we don't have a recommendation. Our hope is at the May meeting we have a recommendation to move forward with the technology, but just want to kind of give you the ins and outs of what that looks like at this point. So. >> [clears throat] >> Uh Miss President, I move that the board go into executive session pursuant to the Kansas Open Meetings Act to discuss non-elected personnel for the
036topic of resignations, classified staff, and certified staff to protect the privacy of individuals to be discussed with Mr. Murphy present, and return to open session in this room. Is that a timeline? Yes, 20 minutes. Uh in this room at 6:50. >> [snorts] >> Motion by Josh. Second. Seconded by Allison. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Any opposed, same sign. Sorry. >> Mhm. >> And the motion by Allison and second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes. I move to approve the resignation of Aaron Gonzales as high school boys assistant basketball coach. I'll second. Motion by Allison and second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. >> [clears throat] >> Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes. I move to approve the resignation of Justine Delavo
037as fourth grade teacher at Wilson Elementary School at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. I'll second. Motion by Allison and second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed, same sign. I move to approve Zoe Potter as social studies teacher at Central Plains High School for the 2026-2027 school year. Second. Motion by Allison and second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes. I move to approve Courtney Robel as a student success coordinator and virtual director at Central Plains High School and Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. Second. Motion by Allison and second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes 6-0. Great. Mr. President, I move that the board go into executive session to discuss teachers negotiation for the purpose of noticing items for negotiation under the
042exception for the employee employee negotiations under the KOMA and that we return to open session in this room. 5 minutes till 7:00? 7:00. Motion by Josh. >> Second. Second by Allison. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed, same sign. just >> [laughter] >> So, the two options that we were presented last week, I'm going to present option one. I don't really feel like option one is going to be a good choice. It both of these options are in their budget for building it. So, it's not something like we're going to have to give extra money for. Both of these are in their budget and just we need some input from you guys on this. So, option number one is where those sewer lines come in, that daycare sewer line comes out on the
043west side. So, option number one is putting a grinder and a lift station in there to pump suit the sewage out, then it's going to run into the school through the school sewer system and then out that direction. Okay, so that's option number one. Okay? Option number two is to trench down this back road. Okay? Come to the not the corner, but kind of the corner of Tim Shedd and then dredge underneath and then come out here to where the our sewer empties straight out of the main entryway. Okay? Straight out to the street. So, to dredge underneath to come and hook into what would be one of those cement pads would be taken out. They would put it there. The good part about this is we have no cleanout already down that whole area.
044So, they're going to they put a cleanout in there with a cap over the top of it and then they'd repour the concrete put it in there. Then it bypasses everything, no lift station needed. Just goes out there. The good part about that is then if we ever wanted to do anything at the tennis courts with a bathroom, it's an easy hook in to that and then go out that way. So, will be a little more work, it will cost a little more, but both of those when I talked to Chris are in the budget that they have. Guys, I really feel that option two, they wanted your guys's input, but overall that's the best choice and then we don't have to mess with any of the piping in the school wall already. So, we
045don't have to worry about a lift station there or anything else like that. So, I just wanted to visit with you guys and have your guys's input on that moving forward. So, and then I wanted to visit with you guys about the administrative review. So, the state representative did get a petition for the review of the Wilson Elementary School closure. They're working when I talked to them at the end of last week, and when I say them, Scott Gordon, they're going through the verification of the signatures at that point. They're actually working through two other administrative reviews besides ours, so they got a lot of work kind of on their hands with those other reviews and ours as well. We've I've already turned in all the documentation to Scott that he needs for the review,
046so it's already there. Whenever they get to it, they can get to it. They'll ultimately come back to us with a reasonable or unreasonable finding. Scott Gordon just kept saying that he he wants to make sure that I mean everybody understands to the best of our ability that ultimately Scott and the state board has no power to open a school building back up, and he thinks that there might be some miscommunication there on that. That the state board can keep or force the building to stay open and that's not true. Ultimately, that'll come back to you guys with their reasonable or unreasonable findings on the closure. So, I kind of keep you guys up to date on that as we go through. So, we're working on next year's purchase orders as well, trying to do
047what we did last year and get a little bit ahead. Um Miss Shiki talked a little bit about preschool. I just wanted to make sure that that you guys knew that our staff over there is working on preschool splits. Um and preschool splits can be changed all the way up to the start of the year, but guys, this is tough. The the preschool, I mean, I think we only have one or two families request afternoon classes. We can't have all those kids in the morning classes. So, I mean, there's no way to make that feasible at all. Um and no matter how we split that up, we're going to have families upset somewhere. So, ultimately, [clears throat] we're trying to do our best to try to make sure we're trying to do what's best for
048the kids, but ultimately, make sure it's feasible for our faculty and staff. Um That third and fourth grade group, there's a lot of them and it seems like every day we get a few more phone calls on on one kids at the preschool. So, I just wanted to keep you up to date on that as well. So, a couple other items I wanted to visit with you guys about the Pro Bound bleachers that are out here that we rented a couple years ago. I did get some information on that. Um and I sent that along to you guys on what they were thinking price-wise. I don't know if you guys want where you guys are at and you want to look at purchasing purchasing those bleachers. If you want to see if they're negotiable on
049their price for those bleachers. Um Just wanted to kind of get your guys' thought on those. They're still over here at this point. They're interested in selling them to us. Um You know, at what they call a discounted rate, but I think maybe they would be negotiable on the price. I haven't reached back out to them yet since they hit us with that first number on them. I don't even know if we're interested in buying them at all. So, I just wanted to open that discussion to get some direction from you guys on what your thoughts were. I feel like it would be a good investment. Um And I I feel like we could definitely get more use out of them. I don't think we have used them to their capabilities since they weren't ever
050technically ours. >> Yeah. So, we didn't feel like it was right to move them or anything. So, but I would be interested in um seeing if they were negotiable on the price. >> I can reach out to them and see if they were negotiable on that and bring that back to you guys at the board meeting. Okay. Um and then just something else I want to put on your guys' radar. I did get an email through Ms. Moore today that uh Mrs. Branda from the Wilson Alumni Association reached out that was interested in seeing if the graduate photos of the Wilson High School graduates that's located in that school once that school building's closed if that would be able to be moved to their facilities so they could house those graduates in their facilities with
051the Wilson Alumni Association. Kayla, do you know anything about I mean, I don't know what kind of facilities they have to house that or >> It's just a small office. Okay. She's in the counseling department. Okay. So, just kind of something to be thinking about if they if they want that with the Alumni Association. We don't have to make a decision on it right now, but probably in May I mean, some of those items that need to go certain directions for just to be kept kept >> Yeah. care of. I mean, if we want to do that, you guys would have the ability to do that as well. So, I'll put that as the next board meeting and maybe visit with Ms. Branda just a little bit. Are you guys open to that at least
052a little? >> Yeah. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. And those are the items that I have for now. Uh they're going to bring that up during this open discussion. So, Okay. Board member report. I have a quick question is not really a board bit. On the summer school program, that 25 to 30 was that all CPES students or would that include Wilson students? That was only CPES. Was anything offered to the Wilson students after the summer school? I did not put it out there, but we can we can we can offer that. >> Right. Okay. Um I just hate to see them get left out of their education for all the kids. Right. So, just a little bit of a backstory on that. I know last year that there was only a few kids that went
053to the Wilson one. So, I think we maybe need to send something out to reach out to see if if they're interested in that opportunity. Yes. Um and then we'll have to kind of visit with parents about transportation and those sorts of things as well, but I don't to answer your question, I don't think anybody's reached out to them on that part of it yet. So, Okay. I did not. Okay. I thought we didn't want to send that out. Okay. Um so, I guess we'll kind of give report on Roughneck Reinforcers stuff and then it might also kind of transition to open agenda. Um Roughneck Reinforcers did have a board meeting last night and they did want um to ask permission. They would like to do a digital screen in the gym. Like about the
054size of the the American flag or the scoreboard. Or somewhere around that size. Um but since it would, you know, actually require being wired in and some work. We wanted to make sure that we got permission from the school board to do that. They are going to be doing some electrical work due to the shot clock and stuff anyway. And it would be paid for by the Roughneck Reinforcers. So, it's not that they're asking for any money or anything, but so, that was one thing and then they did move to move forward with buying new seats, new chairs for like the volleyball team and stuff. Some padded ones kind of like Allen Wood has for theirs. Um We talked about new goals in the basketball because like all the side the side goals. Backboards right?
055Yeah. Backboards. Sorry. Uh and they're going to also reach out to the rec to see if they would maybe help cover the cost of one that would actually be movable instead of having to put the goals on for the little kids during rec games. Um one of the other things was we were aware of like the football field lighting. And so, there was a discussion too about possibly donating towards the cost of that. So, that's that. So, now we'll kind of transition into open agenda items. Can I ask a question about your digital So, on the digital screen, is that to run as a scoreboard or to >> Uh-huh. So, what's the I'm just curious what the vision is to have up on there. So, um kind of like how like Watseka has lots of
056banners for people who want to advertise or things like that. And there's not really a great place So, kind of like slides. Yeah. Slides. So, advertisement or kind of I don't know if you've ever seen Kinsley when they do theirs like when they have senior night, they do any little things for the senior students as they announce them and just yeah. >> I wasn't sure if it was like this is a new scoreboard that can do all of the extra fancy stuff or just more. Okay. Uh who will manage it like do the slides do that design and stuff? Yes. >> [laughter] >> We have a digital media class that can help us get those things done. So, we did kind of something like this is supplied on the entryway TV as as people came
057in. It was just a bigger TV and we just had a rolling slide deck. People would send it to me or send it to the office. We'd proofread it, make sure it was good to go and then we would just add it to the slide deck and just be a rolling slide deck. So, I don't know if that's their vision, but but you're right. Sometimes there's like, "How come that didn't get up there?" Well, just haven't had time to get that into the slide deck at this time. So, um I think the vision was mostly for advertisements just to keep from cluttering up the walls in there and keep those nice banners more prestigious. Um and the more stuff you put up, the harder it is to see all the stuff. So, I think it
058is mostly just to kind of keep it nice and clean looking. Okay. And we feel like we can get a lot more advertisement from the um because yeah, try to figure out who's paid their fees, should we put their banner up or whatnot. It's just a little easier to Yeah. Okay. Sorry. No, you're good. Those are good questions. Good questions. Okay. So, now rolling into open agenda items. Um I feel like we do need to maybe discuss the football field lights a little bit more because that is a pretty hefty price tag on the two um bids that we have got for [clears throat] that. The Roughneck Reinforcers were willing to donate $60,000 towards that. Um which helps, but it's still a pretty hefty price tag and right now we have two bids. So, we
059would would still have to get another Can you remind me what the bids were at? >> yeah. So, just to give you a little bit of an update on where those lights are at. So, those lights have been reinforced with multiple concerns. One, there's a safety concern with them. Okay? But number two is the ballasts are starting to go out on those lights and they can't be replaced. So, I mean, at some point if we can't fix those lights and we have activities out on that field, we're going to have to bring in rental lights to push up to have, you know, those sorts of things, but you take a look at them, you know, they've been reinforced in those things before. So, I reached out to to your question, I reached back out to
060the two bids that we got earlier this this fall because I thought with the technology stuff, I'm like, "Holy cow, I don't even know what to expect these to be." So, the emails I got back today both said they are still going to honor the prices for both of these. So, there will be no change, but one of them came in um at just right at $220,000 and then the other one came in at 200 and Sorry. 200 just a little a a little under $225,000. So, regardless if this is the direction we want to move, um we're going to have to get a third a third bid on these. Um both of these are completely turnkey, taking the old ones out, doing all the electrical work. The lighting on these are also for a
061100-yd football field for two reasons. One, if we ever have to transition transition to a bigger field, we have the lighting for it. Two, we ever do something for the track, then it's going to be we're going to have lighting on the curves where we need lighting at for the curves. Um They would take the old ones out, put the new ones in. Um all the electrical work, haul off the old, all that stuff would be included in the prices for these. Um so I mean, you guys can do the math and kind of kind of get where if we're at $220,000 minus $60,000, I mean, you're at you're still at $160,000. Um kind of been working on capital outlay item list, keeping our modular up. Going where that information is on that, and I
062think you guys have that document in your email as well. Um with some of that included, I I just wanted to to make sure a couple other things. We are going to have to work on our vehicle transportation rotation a little bit as well with our capital outlay budget. Um Um Jamie did put in for the bus grant from last year. They have funds left in there, and they're dispersing the funds here within the next couple months, and they have enough funds left over that she's even thinking that it might be not 70/30 that we pay, that it could be 70 that they pay and 30 that we pay. So, she's working on that to get that in. So, if that happens, it would be in our best interest to go ahead and purchase a
063bus, and we'd be probably looking around that $70,000 mark. If not, we do need to trade a Suburban in for a van on our transportation rotation to be back on it. So, those are some costs like with the capital outlay expenses that in the report um I put in there as well. Uh there's still a couple unknowns as far as like fire alarm system and that. Some of that stuff still estimates. We don't have that pinned down for the modular unit yet, but some of the items um on our capital outlay list is pinned down on what those are going to cost moving forward in the summer. So, this is something we can afford. Um with that being said though, that does take our budget for this year, if we did purchase these, okay, down
064to about $230,000 left. That's not cash, okay, that's our budget authority that we have to spend. With that being said, we have a hail storm or a tornado or something coming through, we're going to have to spend 100 150,000 on uh deductible for replacement for that. So, those when you're thinking about those things, those are per occurrence. So, one occurrence, we would have enough in our budget to do that. Uh two occurrences, probably not. We'd be looking Again, please be thinking that that's not cash. We have more cash than that in our capital outlay, but our budget authority that we have, that's what we budgeted for this year for our authority to have. So, um just to kind of give you a little background on what that would look like moving in that direction. So,
065The two quotes, recall who are they from again? Yeah, one's from Tech Sports Lighting. And that we we put these on a board board agenda before, but this one this is Tech Sports Lighting. Um and I can't remember where this one's out of. Sorry. I was just going to kind of let you know where this one's out of, but you guys This one's actually out of Texas, okay? And then this one is Game Game Day Lighting, and this one's out of Kansas City, Missouri. So, these are these were the two. So, Now, okay, so so I'll kind of backing up to go forward. Yeah. And I I shared I shared that with them today, so they should have that. Um Okay, so on your sheet that you made, so you're saying going down the side,
066you've color-coded them, but if we did all of those, that total at the bottom is what you would expend. Yes, so so just really just um when you talk about our unencumbered balance on 410, we have unencumbered budget balance, not cash, okay? A little over $700,000, okay? All of the amounts that we have on here between the modular canopy, the fire alarm system, the fire alarm blueprints, security cameras, lockers, and then we went ahead and budgeted $45,000 for our technology rotation, but we're not ready to pull the trigger on that yet. Football field lights are on there at 160. Transportation to replace the bus or vans on there at 70. Modular payment, we're going to pay the June and July payment out of this year's budget to put us further ahead for next year's budget.
067Other purchase orders within the district, uh tables, if we buy new health tables uh to put up top over here for an extra classroom space, shot clocks, the modular gutters, moving the gas line, modular furnishings, uh code footprint for the fire marshal for the modular, and then the new fire alarm panel here at the high school. If you add all those items up, um we are at $467,000. So, when you take our unencumbered balance of 700 704,000 and you subtract those, that gives us our budget remaining at $237,657. That's not cash, that's the budget authority we would have left to spend, okay? Cash balance in our capital outlay account, um again, this is cash. We don't have the authority to spend all this, okay? Cash balance was $1,195,814, okay? We don't have the ability to
068spend all that, and quite honestly, we don't want the ability to spend on spend all that because we want that to be able to roll over to next year to be able to help with items for next year as well. So, if we do expend that $467,000, that takes our cash balances down to $728,000. We will get a tax distribution check in June for around $280,000, which puts the total cash just over a million dollars. Whenever we presented you guys with the uh project budget summary earlier this year, we had projected to have in cash at the end of this year $1,000,000 and six $1,016,000. With this projection, that puts us at $1,008,000. So, Pretty close. fairly close right there. But again, my only concern is if we have a couple of hail storms or
069tornadoes, heaven forbid, on what that would kind of look like for the rest of our our budget value for this year. So, color-coded on there, the items in red are solid. We have bid prices on those. We know what those are going to be. The yellow ones, we would definitely have to have board authority for all those items. The greens, there's just still estimates that we have to have to finalize whenever um we get to that point. We're not there yet. So, um so, adding off of that, if the board's wanting to move forward with these football field lights, uh when I talked to both of these places, they said they're not going to be able to wait till the May board meeting to try to get them scheduled for the summer. So, if we're
070serious about wanting information on these, we probably need to have another board meeting between now and May so I can get another quote for you guys so we have three, and then you guys can make a decision off of that if you wanted to move forward or not. If we wait till May, we probably can't get them scheduled to be done unless something just opens up for them cuz they said anticipate probably about two weeks for them to complete the job. So, the other side of it, just to be very very clear, I mean, $60,000 whenever we have uh a group want to put $60,000 down to help with a project like this, I don't I don't know that we can turn that down knowing that it's got to happen. And if we come back
071next year, you know, we can't I I don't want to put words in the Roughneck Reinforcers' mouths, but um they can't guarantee next year that they're probably going to have that amount to to help with. Um they would hopefully they would hope I'm sure all of them would hope they would, but I don't know that they would be able to guarantee that they'd be able to help to that extent. You also can't guarantee that these bids are going to be honored in a year and they won't jump. Uh we were really surprised when we emailed them back today and they said that their quote still stands as is. I was we were thinking anywhere from 20% to 10% to Yeah, we didn't didn't really know what to expect. So, Uh have you thought about contacting
072Midwest Energy and see if they would help anything on this? Whether it's like donations to >> or taking out the old poles and stuff, so maybe we don't have that expense. That That was a question to the one of our board [clears throat] members was what and I didn't know the breakdown of the bids. He's like, "What is the bulk of the of that cost?" You know, is it the actual light? Is it the labor? Is it Is it something else that we can help offset maybe Right. in other ways. So, I can reach out to Midwest Energy and see if they would be interested in taking the old poles down and But, and then I'm just thinking of anything to help out on that cost, you know. I haven't looked through 100% of it.
073The other one doesn't have a breakdown as well as that. Right. But, I wouldn't do it for free, would I? What? I don't know. I mean, they might be interested in helping in some way. Yeah. So, we have a couple of people too that work for Midwest Energy. Oh, sure enough. And then yeah, so I don't know what they can do to help or >> [clears throat] >> other things that Is it her desk? Yeah, they could just say that. Yeah. Well, who's to say they might have a program in there that would help out some of that cost and Um Well, they do and they have some Mhm. grants that they do through Midwest. Yeah. Okay. So, do we just need to um Do we need to set a date for another meeting? >>
074If that's what you guys are wanting to do, yeah, I would I would set a date on a I I don't know what your guys' schedule looks like, but we can't wait until May the Is it the 13th? Oh, no. 11th. 9th. 11th. 11th. We can't wait till May 11th, so I would say either April 20th or I know April 20th is one week, but we could probably get that done in a week. April 27th would be 2 weeks and then that would that would probably I'd be hopeful enough that that would give them enough time to try to get things scheduled, especially if they knew we were exploring the option. Um and then I could reach out to Midwest Energy as well and see if they would be interested in helping in some some
075some sort of fashion on what that would look like. I have city council on the 29th. Okay. On the 29th? Mhm. What about the 27th? What about the 22nd? It's a Wednesday. I might be But, I'd have to look at my phone computer. The 22nd is a Wednesday. I could do that. Or would it be better to use The 27th is fine if you can do I just said no. If it's on the 22nd, I won't be able to get here till later in the day. I won't be able to get here at 6:00. It'd have to be like 7:00. >> On the 22nd? Yeah. And we mean Or if we even just wanted to if you would just wanted to zoom in. I can zoom in from home. Cuz I don't I mean, I
076don't Even if it's a seven Even if it's a seven and you wanted to zoom in, you can do that. But, I mean, it's it's whatever you guys wanted to do. What's the 27th? You got a conflict? Well, the 27th would be fine. I I'm just You're just saying to get it in there quicker. But, that Does that give you enough time to If we did it on the 22nd, I mean, these guys got I just reached out to these guys this afternoon and they got back to me. Okay. So, I can reach out to a couple two or three others to try to get some more um bids and numbers and if they don't respond in you know, in a time, then we move forward with it. But, that would give me enough time
077to try to at least get some contact information from Midwest Energy just to see if they'd be interested in any part of Mhm. these to bring that cost down. Yeah. Yeah. So. I can meet you in the morning, too. If that would work What day? What about the 20th? I mean, the 22nd would give them more time to schedule. I know you're only talking a couple days, but Still. Yeah. Do we want to do the 22nd at 7:00 in the evening? I mean, I know we got some church things maybe going on, but it's kind of up to you guys if that's what you wanted to do. 22nd at 7:00 here? If you want to do it earlier, I can call. Okay. We do the 22nd at 6:00 and we can I can We'll meet
078her. We'll meet K and Okay. Does that work? 22nd at 6:00? And So, the agenda item will be review, discussion, and possible action on Yes, on the football lights. Will we do that at the district office or here? Um We could We could do it either place. Here would We could do it here and it'd be fine. 22nd, Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Can you do that, Nicole? Here, cuz I can. Here. Here. Is there any other information besides that that you think would be helpful that we can gather? And we try to get as many bids as we can, some local from Kansas. Um if there's a couple other There's a couple other places uh schools that have within the past couple years that have got new football lights or new stadium lights and I
079can reach out to them and see who they went with and how their experience was. Um Three's the minimum. Right. And then um we'll try to get some information back from Midwest Energy as well. Perfect. Okay. And that's going to they'll be more efficient, too. They will be. And and we're won't be going We'll only be going back with four poles. Yeah. I mean, we won't be going back with the six or eight or any I guess it will be I mean, all of these both of these have four poles [clears throat] on them, so. So, I guess one other question that came up just for kind of covering bases. Um Do those lights get used more than just four games a year? More than just four times a year? So, I know we use
080them some mornings in the fall when we have cross country practice, we turn those on so the kids can see where they're running. Mhm. Um I won't say every day, but I know they use them for that. I think that they used them for flag football maybe once this year when they hosted a flag football deal in one evening. But, I don't know that they would have had to turn those on. It was just at the very end. Um But, then the other item is just during home football games. >> Well, we're when they practice football in the morning, when it's too hot. Well, and we're having them extra games with them other schools, aren't we? Yeah, but those are in the afternoon. Yeah, we moved them in the afternoon so they wouldn't have to
081worry about like light fees or anything else like that, but Do you have to host it? Right. The only bad bad part about it is, yeah, it's only a few games, but it would I just can't imagine having to bring in rental lights for a football game. Like, I just would think that would be so embarrassing to have to do that. >> Well, and it's a safety deal, right now. Yeah. They're lighting. That was just the other comment or question. Um I guess Sorry to backtrack a little bit. I did forget to mention that we also approved a grant um for a cooler a flower cooler for the um FFA. Uh and we approved that as a full grant, so we'll be purchasing that cooler so the FFA and ag classes can can do more
082expand their horticulture class. Do we have enough electricity out there for that? I don't know. I'm just trying to get the electricity for the CNC and the kiln out there. Not that it was that big of a deal. It just seemed like we couldn't get the power out there, so. So, there are exciting cool things happening. Um any other questions, comments, open agenda items. Okay, items for next month's agenda. Uh so, next month next month's agenda, we will have the certified list, the classified list, and also the supplemental list. Um we'll give you an update on where we're at with those capital items that we've talked about. Um the ball's really moving on the modular unit with the groundwork. It's going to It's going to move pretty fairly quickly here and then it's going to
083be kind of a lag time because we got the groundwork being done, the foundation being done, and then we're just going to kind of be sitting and waiting for all the pieces to get here in mid-June to get those put together ready to go, so. Um We'll have the capital item list updated for you guys as well um and negotiations information as well. And then adding to this, I'm also going to We're also going to reach out to Mr. uh Mr. Lloyd and see if he can be here to visit with you guys as well. Um Dan, sorry as I sit here and think about what I said and do we actually need approval? Do we need board approval? Do we need need a motion to purchase the um digital screen and get that installed?
084We need at least board approval. Right. To accept the donation. >> accept it. >> Yeah, we have the Yeah, accept it. Cuz we'll do a motion to accept the donation for the football lights, so it's the same thing. Okay. So, we might as well put that on the that special meeting. Meant to. For the special meeting. Okay, yes. Uh-huh. So, on the special meeting on >> We I have discussion and possible action on football lights along with possible donation or something like that. Mhm. Can we make them two different agenda items? Uh-huh, sure. Yeah, we'll Yeah. item if possible. Gym Screen donation. Digital screen. Digital screen donation. Mhm. Okay. Digital screen. Well, we just did it as gym upgrades because with the the backboards and stuff, too. Mhm. I'm thinking of the 60,000. Sorry. Yeah,
085that would be football lights. Uh-huh. Right, but She's talking about the the the >> I know, but I wondered if we need both of those at this meeting. Since you're talking football lights, if you decide to make a motion to purchase the football lights, you're doing that based on the contingency that you guys are going to donate 60,000 to the football lights. So, we need to have a motion to approve that donation. And then we'll have a separate motion to approve to accept the donation for gym upgrades. Mhm. We can do that. That'll be We can do that. Yeah.
