We'll go ahead and call this meeting to order. Uh, first item on the agenda is approval of the agenda. >> Also move. >> Second. >> Motion by Josh, second by Allison. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? same sign. Motion passes 6. Uh, next item, approval of the minutes from the 112 and 121 2006 meetings. Any questions, comments, changes? Hearing none, I would entertain a motion to approve those minutes. So moved. >> Motion by Allison. >> Second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. >> Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes 6. And the treasures report is on there for you to review. Any questions, comments? I would entertain a motion to approve the treasures report as presented. So move. >> Motion by Allison. >> Second. Second by Josh. All those

in favor say I. I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. Approval of the invoices. Are there any that you would like to draw our attention to, Mr. Murphy? >> There are there are a few on here. So, our billable credits for last month came in at 143,721 for graduation alliance for our adult learners. Um, I do want to turn your attention to a couple items. I'm going to refer back to these whenever I do my superintendent report to talk about our sped uh assessments moving in next year. So, our sped flow through was a little under 58,000 for this month and then we had our sped assessment for this quarter as well that was 106,000. So, I'm going to kind of refer back to those when I get to my superintendent report as

well. We did have the Claflin wreck flow through that's from Barton County for $45,525. And then we also had another uh big ticket item that was our -ate funding for our technology for this past year that was 68,000 - going to be that's going to be reimburseable. Half of that will be reimbursed back once we have the projects finished. Um so that's $68,000 but we'll be reimbursed half of that whenever we get those wrapped up. So I am going to refer back to that one in a little bit too with the technology and the - side but those are our big ticket items for the month. I will make a comment um on that advance when you see that 57,771 just sped flow through that's actually a mistake. We got that money and we thought

it was flow through but it's actually additional state aid for special education. So, we had to void that check and uh they actually mailed it back to me when I called them right away and I said, "I just got a note from KST that that's part of special education state aid, not flow through." And and uh she goes, "I just opened your door. It's right here." She goes, "I will mail that back to you." So, >> so that's the 57,000 flow through that we're talking about right now. >> Yeah. Right here. This one right here. It's really not a flow through. We get to keep the money. >> Okay. >> But it's in special education. It kind of helps reduce future payments basically. But yeah, that's what that is. Yeah. Yes. >> So, I just

thought I'd mention that. >> What is a preserved cat? >> The what? >> Preserved cat. >> Which one are you? >> It's her. A >> It's an actual cat. >> Yes. >> I accidentally opened the box. Terrible decision. >> Oh, preserved cat. >> Yeah. Just dissect them for >> careful what you >> will first check us. >> Any other questions or comments? Hearing none. I would entertain a motion to approve the invoice presented. >> So moved. >> Motion by Alison. >> Second. Second by Josh. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any oppose? Same side. Motion passes. Six here. And there are no visitors. Oh, wait. Sorry. Reconciliation of the cash balance report. >> That is all on there for you to review. Okay. Now, there are no visitors. So item number

eight, administrative reports. >> Afternoon everyone. Good evening. I guess um so we've had quite a bit of sickness when we were talking about that our numbers have been sitting between 11 and 15 about every day. So we'll just continue to monitor that. um sounds like we're kind of in line with when you look at our attendance um with with Hollywood. So I think hopefully maybe we'll get up over the hump of all this. So on um February 13th, which is Friday, we'll have Valentine's Day class celebrations. On the 16th, we'll have no school. We'll have PD at Lions for half day and then half day in us. PD will be working on KISSA goal that day which has to do with um helping teachers evaluate data and take a look at our math because that's

our um title one goal. And so we'll be taking a look at how we're meeting those needs for our students. On the 20th, our fifth and sixth graders will be headed for a field trip to the Eisenhower Museum in Abalene as well as there I think they're going to it ends at 12:30, so I think they're going to try to sneak in um maybe the independent um telefan or the carousel or something extra there in the afternoon. So, but they're definitely this is part of a grant that this um the museum received. Then on the 25th, um, they'll be headed, our fourth, fifth, and sixth graders will be headed to the spelling bee at Ellsworth. On the 27th, we'll have spring pictures. And then on March 2nd, we'll start read across America. Um, our enrollment

hasn't changed. We have near Austin. Um, couple things just to note. On the 29th of January, we proudly hosted um, Wilson, our local spelling bee for students in grades four through six. Um the competition was exciting. It was really cool to watch them and intense. We had some kids that were really showcasing their hard work and dedication. Um but Luke and sixth grader are in first place and then Chisum in sixth grade second. Um and then August in fifth grade was third. And then these outstanding students along with some and I listed out the fifth and one fourth grader that'll be headed to the county spelling bee in Ellsworth as I previously stated on the 25th. Um my sizzle snort for this month um I have our kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Kriswell. She creates a classroom

where every student feels safe, valued, and excited to learn. And that's no small task. Yet Mrs. Kriswell makes it look effortless. Through her endless patience, kindness, and enthusiasm, she builds a strong foundation for our youngest learners by nurturing curiosity, confidence, and genuine love of school. Her classroom is a shining example of how meaningful learning comes to life through creativity, hands-on experiences, and strong relationships. Mrs. Kriswell consistently goes above and beyond to meet each child's individual needs, celebrating their successes and supporting them through challenges. Families and staff alike appreciate her clear communication, warmth, and unwavering dedication to helping students grow both academically and socially. Through her commitment, positively, and genuine care for her students, Mrs. Kris Kriswell makes a lasting impact every single day. We are incredibly grateful for her hard work and are honored to

call her a Wilson Dragon. I'd also like to um give a snizzle snort um to Becky and Maggie, our amazing kitchen staff who today passed for the first time. Becky said with the state of Kansas Department of Health, no nothing. They didn't get anything. So that's pretty cool. These ladies serve up some of the tastiest school meals. you want to come for mashed potatoes and chicken meal soup. It's really good. Um, the tastiest school meals this side of the Mississippi, but their impact reaches far beyond the cafeteria. From helping with afternoon custodial duties to stepping in and ensuring coverage during staff absences, they consistently demonstrate that there truly is no eye in teamwork. And we are incredibly fortunate to have Becky, Ma, and Maggie as value members of our Wilson Dragon. Thank you. So, >>

thank you. >> We have also been hit with the flu bug. We had over 30 kids sick or 30 kids out today sick and by the end of the day we had probably another an additional eight 10 more. Um, we held our local spelling be on the 20th. We had over 60 spellers. Whitley Simpson took first place and Abby Griffin took second place. will take our top eight spellers to compete at Ellsworth at our county spelling be on the 25th. We just celebrated our hundth day of school last week. Hard to believe we've already made it to the 100th day. Friday night, last Friday night's basketball game, our four-year-olds and our kindergarten classes signed the pledge of allegiance and did a fantastic job. Fifth grade student Ellie McKenna was selected as our CPS student of

the week. She's the daughter of Brett and Tracy McKenna. We also had an art contest winner. Um, sixth grade Dory RP won first place in a Kansas State Department of Transportation Division of Aviation poster contest. Her poster will go on to Washington DC for the next round of competition and she'll be honored at a ceremony at a later date. Looking ahead, we have our Valentine's parties this Friday. Next Monday, we go to Lions for inservice. Our first graders go to the Clockland Community Center and the Hollywood Legion on the 19th. We have spring pictures coming up on the 24th. There'll be no preschool on the 27th. This is the day that the preschool teachers have a chance to plan. March 5th is already the end of our third nine weeks. March 6th is an inservice

day for us to to um in the morning we'll have a work or inservice day. In the afternoon, we'll have a work day and then we have parent teacher conferences on March 9th. Do you have any questions? All right. I took um a couple teachers with me on January 28th. We went to Reality U in Ellenwood. Took the eighth graders and the sophomores. Um it was a great day. The kids did a fantastic job. Um and there were some really cute comments. Um like I asked a couple of kids how they were doing. Um, and they say, "Well, I had to go get another job because she's got to have a dog." And so, it was super cute to listen to them have like marital arguments, you know. Um, but they really worked together really

well and they did an excellent job representing our school. Um, homecoming was last Friday night. We had a packed house um for that game. We'll have our Hall of Fame game and senior night will be February 19th at the Canton Galva game. It's a Thursday. Uh, we also had students who will be attending the spelling be on February 25th. I added a a couple pictures of our winners down at the bottom for you on the next page. Um, we will be holding CTE advisory board meetings on February 25th as well. So, we're planning on doing those first thing in the morning. Um, that is National FFA week. Um, the FFA kids are going to cook breakfast for the staff members and for the club. uh club members. So, they're also going to cook enough for

our board members to um enjoy dinner. Um last year we uh were out in the shop, so this year we're going to be in the fax room and go tour the uh business room um so that they kind of get to see everything that we have going on. We had to do a call for tissues because we didn't have enough Kleenexes for all the uh flu bugs. Um, so a huge thank you to Clara Barton who donated two clo two cases of uh Kleenexes to us. Um, my athletic report, we have high school scholars bowl wrapped up their season this last week. They went to Pliner for regionals. Um, junior high scholars bowl will begin this Thursday already. Uh, we get done with high junior high basketball and turnaround right around scholar bowl which is

great. Um, the junior high basketball teams ended ended their seasons this last week. The 18 boys uh made it to the championship game and brought home the first place. Um high school will play in the first CPL basketball tournament in Kinsley this next week. Um and of league now. Um and this is the first time that we've done a CPL league tournament for basketball. So if you remember the state of Kansas um opened those three more games up. So this is the way that we're attacking our three extra games. Um the last thing I have on there is just the National FFA week is uh the 23rd through the 27th. Um and then those are the activities that they're doing. They're painting hay bales. Uh they're doing that teacher member breakfast. They're giving goodie bags

to their student their uh group. They are doing a soda bar for all the students and a scavenger hunt and they have some class games. Um some of the other pictures I added for you are from the reality event um in Ellenwood. Thank you. Item number nine is a facility request. So, we were contacted um earlier this year whenever all the schools were going through their next two-year rotation for their football scheduling uh by Frankfurt and also Stanton County. So they are interested in using our facility, our football film locker rooms to host Stan County. Frankfurt would be host this year for the next two two years on the third Saturday in September for football. So pretty good distance between Stanton County out almost by the uh Colorado border and Frankfurt. So they asked if

they could kind of meet in the middle and play in Claplin. Uh talk to Tim, talk to Jess, talk to Pat about this. we would be able to make this happen if you guys were okay with it on that third uh Saturday in September for football and that would be this year and next year. So, we've kind of made went through the progress of making those arrangements. Uh we will charge them the price of the custodial fees and to have someone on call during that time. So, they will bring all the workers. I know there's been talk about the concession stand and how the concession stand would work if we would have somebody from our community that would want to run it. So, we're kind of working out some of those logistics. um as far

as being able to honor that request moving into next year in the next two-year cycle. So, uh a couple concerns that I do have, you know, if for some unforeseen reason, um you know, we're not able to play a home game on Friday night for weather and they try to move it to the next Saturday, that could complicate the the situation. Um, one of those years we will be away on that Friday and then the next year we would be home or vice versa on that third Saturday. So, you know, one of the other main concerns is just wear and tear on the football field if it gets a lot of rain on it and it has a double football game Friday night and Saturday night. Um, when I visited with Tim about that, he

didn't think that that would be an issue to be able to to use that. But those were just some of the concerns we were working through in our head that we wanted to make sure you guys were aware of. Um, for that facility request for the next two years cycle. We did ask them um whenever they scheduled it to schedule it in the afternoon. Um that way it give us a little bit of time to get things cleaned up if we were hosting a game the night before or something like that. Um so >> they're more they're more than happy to work with us. However, >> are they an amen? >> They are an a certain You guys think of any other concerns with that at all? >> Now, have you talked to them about

that? If we can't play on Friday, if we got to play on Saturday or something of that sort, >> we've talked about that, just not in detail because we don't know how that'll pan out. We would just try to work with them together on whether they would move their game back. I would rather if we had to we would want our kids to play on the best bill possible. So if it was some more we had to work with him to move their game back a couple hours so we could play and then they could turn around and play. We we would I think they'd be more than more than happy to be able to work with us if that happened. Um that'd be really short notice, but I think they would be more than

more than willing to. >> Now are they going to get drafts too or >> Yeah, they'll get drafts. We we don't have to pay for the rest. >> So if you guys don't have any concerns, I would recommend moving forward with that facility usage for the next few years. >> Any other questions? I move to approve the facility usage for the Frankfurt versus Stanton County football game for the next two-year cycle. Motion motion by Allison, a second by Josh. >> All those in favor say I. >> Any opposed? Same sign. >> Motion passes 6. And item number 10, the 2627 school calendar. >> Uh so we met with each school and each rep all the representatives from each each building. uh to put together three options for the school calendar for next year. Uh so

we did put together three options. Uh option one did receive 75% of the total vote. Um so we did attach option one. So I would want to I'd like to just go over that and call your attention to just a couple things real quick on that school calendar. This does build in the same amount of days that we have this year um in case of emergency days. Um, one thing that's going to be be really weird is is the the uh month of March. If I could turn your attention to the month of March on that calendar. We will have the end of the nine weeks there, that first week of March. Um, but then we have a full week off for spring break and then Easter falls really weird. So, you're going to have

a couple days off in March there, too. So, March gets really scrunched down really quick when you're figuring those days off to resemble what our calendar has looked like in the past. Um it does still give a week off for Thanksgiving. A lot of the feedback on that um was positive from last year. Um we did have a couple concerns from a couple high school teachers, middle school teachers, just trying to get them rained in again after a week off for Thanksgiving. Um and then December does give us still our full two weeks off for Christmas break as well. Now, the one thing I do just want to turn your attention to is uh I haven't heard a lot of information the past couple days in the legislature about the Labor Day bill, but there

was a bill that um was gaining some support to move the start date for all public schools after Labor Day. So, if that happens to gain support and that gets pushed through, we'll be back to square one with this uh moving forward going through and counting hours and counting in surface days and maybe having to push the end of school back further or add some more time to the day to not do that. So, when we talked in our calendar committees, we brought that up too, just to let them know that while we're hopeful to pick one option, we still might have to go back to the drawing board and start over. I don't I don't foresee should also >> I don't foresee that being a problem. Um sorry I don't foresee that being an

issue. I just don't think that's going to gain a lot of traction. You know forcing everybody to start after Labor Day and taking some of that local control away on that side. But who knows what that's going to look like. >> Well, for some people that push them ending after Memorial Day >> Could. Yeah. Unless they're going to add more more minutes to the day or, you know, take less days off throughout the year. So, so this was what 75% of the vote came back on was option one. Um, so I just wanted to go over that really briefly with you guys. So, you had a little a little information on that. Um, a couple of the other options just built in that Veterans Day. This year we had half a day of school on

Veterans Day and half a day off. um that affected a few teachers and and the feedback that we got from that was just it hurt the parents more trying to find daycare for that half a day um rather than help the situation. So that was one one of the uh concerns that some of the faculty and staff brought to me for that Veterans Day. So we did have an option where that was half a day. Um they preferred that day to be moved from Veterans Day into April. So there was a inservice workday in April because if that was in November then they wouldn't get that day in April. So um we did look at that. We also did have an option where I started school a little bit earlier, got out a little bit

earlier too, but this was the one that majority fell on. So any other questions? just the middle. >> I didn't even notice that. >> She wants to go ahead and approve that. >> Yes, I would I would recommend moving forward with approving option one is the calendar for 2627 just under the understanding that if we have to change it, we'll have to change it at your time. So, >> I move to accept calendar option one is the 2627 district calendar. >> Motion by Alison, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. Item number 11, the high school gym. >> Okay. So, we've been working on this. Um, Miss Murphy and her coaches and and Coach Styles, they've been putting time in trying to get

all this finalized. Um, a lot of school districts are trying to get their gym floors redone in the moratorum period, which is right around July 4th. So, that's always a hot time because the kids can't be in the gym and that's when uh the majority of the schools would like it done whenever it's not in use. So, we did include the bids from the company companies that we worked with last year um for this project. So to do the sanding, sealing, and finishing, they're estimating a total of 8 to 10 days. Um, and that part come came in right about $14,700 with the options for staining if we pick a certain floor color um for a different part of the gym floor. The company that does all the lines and all the painting comes in

after they're done with the sanding part of it and fixing any dead spots, things like that in the floor. So they'll come in and do their part of it and then they'll the other group will come back and do the finishing part once all the lines are the lines and the colors are done. So that does include all the line paintings, the basketball lines, the volleyball lines, the sideline, the baseline, the logos and the wording. So these are two separate companies that have two different parts of the gym floor. So that comes out to just a little over $30,000. Um we don't know the last time that's been done all the way down and fixing what needs to be fixed. So, it's it's been a while since we we've done this. So, um couple things.

If you guys would like me to seek out some other bids from other companies, I'd be more than happy to do that to get comparable bids on this as well. You guys don't have to do that. if you want to go with the same company that we went with companies that we went with last year um to be able to move forward with this these um to move forward with getting it scheduled over that moratorum week. Um, with that being said, I do want to turn your attention to to some of the options that they gave us for the gym floor and those are uploaded on there. Um, option number one is the first one that's on there. That is the one that looks like this with the green outline and the green um lines.

Had to double check. Sorry. So, that's the first one on there. Um the next one that's on there after that is almost kind of the same setup except it has the gray volleyball lines for a little bit of a difference. The third option that's on there is the one that has the black outline that has the O and the Oilers across it. And then the fourth one that's on there um has the same black as well, but it also has a has a little bit has just the O in the middle and doesn't have the OERS across it. So I put those on options on there for you guys to look at. Um the recommendation that we have to move this way from the coaches and administration is option two and some of the feedback

that that we've received is option two with the gray lines. Um if this is the direction we want we want to go to get that scheduled in for that moratorium. We also just as is is something we we need on our radar too. We do need to redo. When I say redo, not all the way down to the wood, but we do need to work on the gym here as well. And when I say work on the gym, we need to have them come in and repurpose it like we did last year at the high school middle school two years ago. I think it will send it last year at Bushton as well. So, that'll be something that we'll try to work in there, too. And I'll get you guys quotes on what they're going

to run for that we get there if this is the direction we want to go. But that's something that we need on our radar, especially the amount of amount of kids that that use the gym here in Hollywood. We need to make sure that that's staying >> kept up. So, we don't want somebody to be sliding around themselves. So, um just some directions on how you guys feel on this with those two companies with those two different price levels um moving forward on this. So the prices don't change of the color. >> The colors do not change. No. If you want different staining in different parts of the gym, that could influence the price. If you stain the whole floor, I mean, it's going to it's going to go up in price. So, and the

price that he quoted us on was the second option, right? Correct, Mrs. Murphy? Which would be the one that had the gray lines. Now, this ain't on the price. This is on the color. Um, and you might want to go back to coaching and talk to them. The lighter the color, the harder it is to see for the players. And we kind of Emmy played this weekend at Hoisington and their lines are very light. >> The kids couldn't see them. >> You're talking about like the baselines inside out. >> Yeah. Well, and and if in that the volleyball lines are the light gray, >> right? >> Um you know, to me, I'd rather go to the darker lines on most everything. Uh, you know, the out- of- bounds line for basketball I think would be

fine. It's just every other line, whether it's volleyball or baseline or anything like that. >> I think we need to go a darker color because it is hard to see a little bit. I do see what you're saying on those volleyball lines with them being a little bit different shade of gray. >> So if a a girl's going for a ball but she's don't know if it's in or out, where's that line at? >> I think the gray will be easier to see than like a white. >> Well, poison tins is gray. >> That's why we went with the dark. >> Okay. >> You think the dark gray is still not dark enough? If it was me, I would run over to Hoisington. I mean, theirs is not light light gray, but it's not a

like a dark gray gray. >> I know it's really hard to see on those. >> Yeah, >> those. But the dark gray is as dark as the green. It's just >> we thought the green might be a lot of green. So, we thought the gray might >> and and if it is a darker gray, almost as dark as the green, you know, >> I see. >> I just I think we we could be all right with it. >> It just worries me where the inside might be stained and the gray comes across there. I think I I tend to kind of agree with you a little bit on those areas. And I can ask him about that. You know, I feel like the more he gave me different options, the darker the or the less

contrast it was. I think when he I saw the original staining, it was quite it's it's darker, but it's not >> I don't know how to explain it. It's darker, but it's not >> painted. It's just stained darker. So, I still think you'll be able to see the But I can ask him. That's a good question. I can ask him. What >> did Lisa have concerns with the color of the wine? Do you agree? >> No, her we we were both good with She preferred the darker gray um rather than the green because the green was just a it was very busy um with all the green. >> Yeah. >> And I think we still have some time to kind of decide on that before we get there. I just need to know, are you

guys good at those price points or would you like me to see what else is out there? Like Miss Murphy said, we have them booked already for that time, but at those price points that we need to go looking um for other comparables, we can I can do that as well. They might just kick us off of the moratorium, you know, if we don't okay it, but I'm fine with doing that if that's what you guys would like to do as well. And this is a company we've used before and so we know the standards and know that they're reliable and be able to get it done during that time. I would say we just go ahead with it. Any other thoughts or questions or comments? Is it 20,000 when you have to put it

out to bid? >> Yeah, it could be 20,000. >> Two separate >> Yeah, they're separate. Yeah, because they're separate. >> So, we would need a motion for Kane Quartz to come in and do the the sanding, ceiling, and finishing. Then we would need a motion for >> no paint. >> No back paint. Yeah. To come in and do the painting. Yeah. I get back to it. Keep doing said it's cane quartz. >> Kane courts. >> I would make a motion to approve cane quartz for the refinishing and staining of the court. >> Motion by Alison. >> Second by Josh. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any oppose? same sign. Motion passes 6. >> I move that um we approve Novak Art LLC for the painting of the gem floor. Second. >>

Motion by Alison and second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Same sign. The motion passes 6. Uh item number 12, the board policy updates. >> Okay guys, I'm going to go through these and if you have any questions, please uh slow me down and ask. I'm going to go through each one separately. There's one of them that we are going to make the recommendation to um not accept yet. I'll go over that whenever we get there. So the first KSB policy update um is BCBK. That's executive session. Um, this policy makes it clear that recording is not allowed and violators of that may anticipate the board pressing criminal charges. Um, they've been having some problems with some secret recording devices in some executive sessions throughout the state of

Kansas. So, um, that's kind of where that derived from. So, the BG membership removes the prerec of having to be a member of KASB uh, to be a member of NA NBA. So, it just removes that prerec from it. Um, the one that I would I would recommend us waiting on is IHF graduation requirements. This is just an adopt if preferred. It's a stylistic change to focus on the credits that students need for graduation. But yes, we're going to have to approve this in our board um after this year's over in our handbooks because we are going to have some new graduation requirements with financial literacy and some of those things coming back um you know into our court this next school year, moving into the next school year. So I would recommend us not

moving forward with that at this time knowing that we're going to have to re rechange it and adopt a different policy here in the next few months. So uh the next one I is the use of artificial intelligence. Um and I do want to go over this one just a little bit so you guys kind of have some background on what this one is. This is a review and adopt if preferred. Uh it does just kind of go over the definitions of what AI is and and the way that it needs to be used in a school. Um it talks about while utilizing approved AI tools um demonstrating honesty, integrity and responsibility in the word only using AI to the extent that it supports learning. Um talks about the usage of understanding what the AI

technologies are supposed to be meant for and not to supplement actual human instruction or supervision or judgment. as well talks about the cons uh maintaining consistency with board policies uh citing and disclosing the use of AI generated content in assignments if it's if it's deemed acceptable by a teacher only using uh AI for generating editing or skill development when permitted by a teacher and then it goes through the prohibited use as well um anything that violates academic integrity generating um completed assignments and using them as your own work uh falsifying data. So, this is this is a really good overview template that that I think would be good for us to use moving forward um in our handbooks into next year with how we need to use AI in the schools and teaching kids how

to use AI appropriately uh because there is going to be a use for that moving forward and the use is not to do your completed work but to use it as a reference tool when allowed by teachers. So, um the next one that's on there is IKV, which goes over controversial issues. Um this this policy talks about um it not being appropriate for teachers to use moments to express their personal viewpoints in such a way that it would violate board policy or state law, state law policy on political activity. IKCA is the next one and there's two there that removes references to AIDS throughout the human sexuality education policy. Um any language regarding the public notice and availability of human sexuality and age curriculum goals and objectives um will be items that kind of fall

under this policy and adds to that as well. IKD uh talks about religion in school, but it also talks about some other items that we need to make sure that we're having communication with parents on. If you flip to the next page, this policy um is a notice that policies now need to provide parents or persons acting as parents that they shall be notified in advance and given the opportunity to opt their children out of any activity addressing topics that are known or to be reasonably contrary to the religious beliefs of the parents or the people acting as parents or the students themselves. So, um, we already have some of those policies in our handbook, but that's a a good reference to have as well. JBCC talks about the enrollment of non-resident students. Um, we've

talked about this just a little bit. The the policy on non-resident student enrollment was updated to reflect laws allowing the district in which the student will be attending to drive into the student's district to pick the student up for transportation after giving notice to the school that they're driving into. So JCA talks about interrogation and investigation. Uh the policy was revised to provide clarity on when a district staff member should notify parents when conducting investigations into violations of students code of conduct or or law. JDCC the bullying plan uh talks about removing references to gender gender identity and sexual orientation. They feel like it's already addressed in the policy itself. JQI talks about adult students and references a policy for adult students being revised by clarifying that administration will determine the placement of an adult

student who wishes to attain a high school diploma. KM talks about visitors to the school. This language was added to allow school personnel to request to see identification required by an offduty law enforcement agency to verify the individual is a law enforcement officer before letting them into the school. So, those were the new policies for the second read. Um, I would recommend moving forward with those policies with the exception of IHS graduation requirements just because we know we're going to have to update those in the coming months. Any questions? >> That was a lot. Sorry, I threw a lot at you there. So, I would entertain a motion to approve all the KBF updated policies as presented with the exception of a motion by Alison. >> Second by Josh. All those in favor say I.

>> I. Any oppos? Same sign. Motion passes 6. And item number 13 is our facilities walkthroughs. So, Miss Shei is going to lead us on a tour of the school a little bit around. Um, so if you want to follow her, we'll kind of take a look at the facilities and let you guys have a chance to ask questions or concerns moving forward. >> That way, if I break it, So, this is the library here. We have Evan's office, our tech guy. He's over here in the corner. And then our speech language services through um Salina are back here in this other corner. There's another little office back there that has her speech services. We'll go ahead and come out. She did all she I think >> if you buy two around the corner. Here

is the gym. >> I'll let Shay go in there. Yeah, >> we turn the lights on or >> start. I can turn the lights on. >> I sure do. here instead of getting That's the gym. And then they're slowly coming on. >> It's an experience. >> Yeah. They don't come on quick at all, do they? >> Does anybody have any questions about our building? >> So, this is guys, this was we were talking about probably having to at least redo the the wax and on the gym floor. So, if you want to kind of come in and take a look at it real quick. >> Yeah, we have not. You can tell it's really >> getting pretty slick. >> It is pretty slick. And you can tell it just it it needs to be it

needs to be buffed down and then re >> there's not a rock on it. >> Yeah. Watching the kids play in here the games that they had over here. >> Yeah. >> There's some balls. have to have somebody go get those things down. >> So, honestly, our big kids could help our little kids. They could grab one and go. I mean, >> there's some grape. Yeah. Thanks, K. Yeah. But I do think our big kids could help out in the event of a drill or our big kids with the daycare. They could grab a window. >> We were talking about storm shelters down here. >> Yeah. It' be a ways to get there. >> Bigger kids are going to be in the new building so they can walk right back. >> Follow them. >> Yeah.

>> Yep. >> Okay. We will head back down to the library. Thank you, Miss 13,000. I don't want to be >> my engine. You guys take your own time. >> Not the first one, but the second one went second. >> Okay, Mr. Scott, I'll let you do your thing. Okay. So, Mr. President, I move that the board go into executive session pursuit to the Kansas opening act to discuss non-elected personnel for topics of reserations administration supplements and classified staff the privacy individuals to be discussed with Mr. Murphy present and return in open session room 7:15. All those in favor say I. significantly We got five minutes. >> Okay, I'll turn this off. All right, we're back open session. I move to approve the resation of Katie Ryan as assistant coach for boys tennis at Central

Plains High School. >> I'll second by Alison, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. Any opposation of Sheila Branson as cook at Central Plains Elementary School at the end of the 256 school year. All those in favor say I. Any oppos Junior High and High School principal with salary to be determined later. >> Second. by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppos? Same sign. Passes. >> I move to renew the contract for Shake Shi, a central plains elementary principal. The salary to be determined later. Second by second by Josh. All those in favor say I. Any oppos? Motion passes. >> I move to approve Payton Bryan as the high school boys assistant tennis coach for the 2026 season. say I move to approve Thomas Reason as a substitute bus

driver and second by Josh in favor say I >> any opposes >> Mr. President I move that the board go into executive session to the I'll let the person go top of superintend with with superintendent Bob Murphy to be on call. All those in favor say I. Amen. Where is there? And we are back in open session. I move to extend a three-year contract through 2028 2029 for Bobby Murphy as superintendent of USC 102% of motion by second by Josh. All those in favor say I. We same time motion passes. Item number 16. Okay, so have a few items on here. I'll start off with some of the not so good news and try to work my way up. But legislative session, I'm kind of keeping a close eye on that. One of the big

items right now that that they're talking about is special education dollars. We talked a little bit about that when we talked earlier today about our um our invoices for the month. So we get flow through that comes from the state. It goes to us goes directly to CPCI which is our sped service department. And then we also have an assessment that's put on there as well. So, um, the legislators in the past few years have talked about trying to fully fund sped, and I'm sure you guys trying to keep up on some of that. You've heard that. So, just in the last two weeks, it it's went from $20 million in sped money for next year to $10 million to now no dollars, and you're going to have to fund it with what reserves you

have. Okay? So, thinking about that, we have mandates for our special education students that we have to leave. They're anticipating a 25% increase instead of assessments for next year. A 16% increase last year came in to about $67,000. So 16% last year and now we're staring down 25% increase. So we still have all the mandates, everything that we're going to have to do to make sure that we're um filling our obligation from the sped side. But when you talk about how's that funded if we don't have the sped dollars and there's no money flowing in that well it comes out of the general and it comes out of our local option. So that's something we're going to be keeping a close eye on through the rest of this session with a couple other items on

there as well. But um I just wanted you guys to kind of be aware of that and the promise that they've made to try to fully fund sped and they'll tell you they're fully funding it. Um but they're not fully funding it. We're still having to use our budget. our general budget to fill the gap in between what they're funding and what cost. So, um that's something that we'll be keeping a close eye on the next few weeks in the legislative session. Um that's wanted to visit with you guys about that a little bit. Um I also want to talk to you guys about the Patterson grant. So, we did submit our letter of intent. We got that finished today for the first round of the Patterson grant. Um they're doing it just a little

bit different this year. Your L for the first round the LOIs are due I think it was by February 18th which we have our LOI that stands for letter of intent. Um if that's accepted then you get to move on to the next stage which is putting your application in for the whole Patter. So we've been working on that. Um the Patterson grant that we were fortunate enough to get two years ago um is set to run out probably Marchish. Okay. So I want to visit just a little bit about what that could mean for us. Worst case scenario if we're not fortunate enough to get talking to Shawn just a little bit. We are going to probably send out a letter in March to our daycare families letting them know that the grants scheduled

to run out. We're still anticipating everything being the same for this calendar year, but looking this summer and into next fiscal year, not calendar year, fiscal year, um we could be looking in raising tuition fees. Um families paying for lunches and breakfast. Part of the grant was to alleviate the cost and we've been paying for lunches and breakfast for our dayare kids. Um we could be looking at having to have them pay to hold spots for families and teachers when they're not using the daycare like a normal daycare would. and then even to the point of not allowing overtime hours for employees. So those are all items that we're going to have on there. We're still hopeful that we'll get a chance and we'll be fortunate enough to get the grant, but we've got to

look at this as a worst case scenario to fulfill our obligation to families could look like forunate. So you know we have to have the understanding that all the funds come from the same budget with it being a school operated daycare. there's no grant funding there. So, just in the last month, uh, sorry, the last 12 months, we spent about $85,000 in grant funds to pay for just salaries and food for our daycare. Okay. So, if we're thinking about that from from a a district standpoint, okay, we don't get the grant, okay, we're either going to have to look at instituting these things to bring that $85,000 down, okay, or I mean, we're going to have to look at all other alternatives. Now, all of us are on the same page and on the same

team of wanting to get the grant, wanting to move forward, wanting to be able to do these things and offer these things. But just to put it pretty bluntly, if we had $85,000, okay, are we going to want to use that to run the daycare or are we going to want to use that for reasons for faculty and staff? It doesn't come from a different pot. It all comes from the same pot if the district's running. So, those are just things to be thinking about, you know, as we get going through these next two months. Again, we're all on the same team with this because we want their grant. We want to run the daycare. But again, you know, we might have to institute some of these things if they're not for years. >> Correct.

We won't run the >> CL. We will help with lunches and breakfasts, but we let you have to determine what that's going to look like. We'll we'll we'll see what that's going to look like probably after spring break. Um their hope is to have that open. Um but you know, just to be clear, that's an option, but we're still hoping that we're able to run this and do this and just cuz the daycare here in Hollywood is full. I mean, it's completely I mean, I think they got one open spot, but the amount of folks that are going to be in there next year, I mean, it's going to be full. We want to still be able to run it and run an efficient vehicle. um you know, but those are all just kind of

worst case scenarios looking down the line of what that could potentially look like if we're not working. So, um you know, whenever you're talking about overtime, you know, for employees, you know, if you have 30 hours a week of overtime, I mean, if we're not going to allow overtime hours, it's more beneficial to hire somebody for that spot then to pay 30 hours of overtime versus 30 hours of time. So, those are all things that we'll talk about coming down here um down towards the end of this year, but I just wanted to put that on your guys' radar for for items that we're going to be talking about. Like I said, we're going to do our best and be hopeful we get the grant from the board because does anybody want to raise the

tuition fees on the daycare? No. Does anybody want to be happy to pay for the lunches and breakfast? No. Does anybody want to not allow overtime? No. All those answers are no. So, we're going to be hopeful we can do that or be prepared. >> Uh KSD audit uh scheduled for February 18th. So, we're hoping to have all that complete. Um if we do have to republish the budget for our adult credits, we're at we'll work on that as well. Um the numbers are starting to come out a little more even the past couple months on where we're at with that. So, there is a chance that we won't have to republish that, but it's we think it's going to be close. So, we should know that within the next month. So, um throwing a

curveball at you guys for this this next item. We did have a land request. There's a gentleman that bought the proper property directly west of the football practice field in platform. They reach out. Um the district owns the road that goes in and out of that property. Technically, it's school property. a gentleman by the name of Jonathan Herder bought the property from his grandmother and he's wanting to know if the school district would be interested in selling that piece of land that that road sits on. So if this is the map of Claplin, that road is part of a school property that goes in there about a quarter mile. That is school property. We own that road, but that's the only entrance in and out of that property. I think, you know, they're want to

look at building a house over there by it, some of those sorts of things. So, I think that that's why they're interested in that road right there. Um, so I wanted to put that on your guys' radar to give some direction on what you would like me to do with that request or use the road. We don't use it very often. Whenever I visited with him about the usage of that road, he said we used to use it for maybe there was a time that tree row wasn't there and they used it for parking for the other team. >> Yes. So, I haven't really done anything else with this. Um, just the request. I've reached out. Haven't done a lot of investigative work to figure out how many acre acres are there. You know, I

know it goes in there quarter mile using Google Maps and uh being able to map it that direction. Our property Our property begins right at the edge of that road towards their side. So, it's not like it extends 5t past from it's almost right on the west side of that road over there. So, um, you know, I just wanted to put that on your guys' radar to get some feedback if you want me to reach out to the city because it's right there on the city lines, too, to see what it would be worth maybe or, you know, what survey of that land would look like, you know, costwise to be able to know exactly what the price would be for that. But we don't use that road very often. So pretty. I'll reach out

to the city and see if it's not the city or if it's in the county and I'll try to get what it cost to sell that road and then I'll bring that back to you guys. >> Okay. So, a couple other items. Um, we have started our property insurance this year um for renewal. Um so we have ball rolling on that in the right direction. Um have a lot of sickness going on in the district right now between um all the buildings. We do not have school on Monday. So uh we have an inservice day. So we're going to hope doing some disinfecting kind of during that day. But, you know, if our numbers keep projecting the way that they are, we might be having a conversation later without having to have a day just

to get in the building next week as well. So, we'll see what our numbers look like. So, trying to do our best there. Our teachers are doing a great job trying to be healthy and and be in school, too. They're working really hard to make sure that they're not getting sick. So, uh, one of the other items I wanted to throw on your guys' radar just I know in the next couple weeks we have some decisions to make um, with with hearings for closures and things like that. Um, did have some community members in Wilson that said that we did move forward with transfer. They left the building left the way it was. I just want to make sure we understand is there's some items in that building depending on what happens it's bought with

grant dollars. Okay. some of the touchscreens, some of the adopt iPads, um some of the Chromebooks, those sorts of things, maybe even some of the -ray stuff that we're talking about as well. So, some of depending on which direction, you know, we go or um we're forced to go with this with this. I just wanted you guys to be aware there's some of those items that have to be in classrooms for the kids, but we're going to have to pay back those items. So, just wanted to make sure we were clear on that depending on way things. So, um those are the items I have on my super this month. If you guys have any questions or concerns with anything, I know that was a lot of use. Any board member reports item number 18

Didn't we get it in for high schools? We did this $44,000 for brand new turnkey. They take the old one out, bring the new one in. Um I think it was just a little over $44,000. We have not moved forward with that. We just have that one there just outside. >> That's outside. Um, let me work on that just a little bit. I'll work with our cafeteria staff just a little bit to talk about sizes. I don't know if it's going to be the same exact size as the one. It might even be a little Let me work on that. I'll see if I can bring you some information. I swear we talked about this. um you know there could potentially be some electrical work that I'll see you guys on you're talking about that

in lines of trying to get rid of those spacers to create some more space on that other wall. That was kind of what we talked about when we get rid of another row of tables. months. So, we've been working on open open enrollment numbers just a little bit. So, we're hopeful we can have that information as well and we'll be working on our certified staff and supplement staff here as well. And just a reminder, the March meeting will be soon.
